Is this the App Quarantine you're referring to: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ramdroid.appquarantine&hl=en
It doesn't look like it supports 5.0 and hasn't been updated in a few years? I'm on MM btw
I use App Quarantine. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ramdroid.appquarantine Select "SDM" (icon is a greyscale phone with an android alien thing in the middle, with a red "refresh" button on the lower right) and freeze it.
Then hibernate applications. If that still doesn't work, use an app freezer to freeze unessential applications and applications that you only use once in a while. If you do that, they can't start up and drain battery. Just be careful what you're freezing.
Here's my solution and I use Google Maps at least once per day:
Freeze the app using App Quarantine Pro [ROOT] |free| - |paid £1.18|.
Create a group within the app
Add GMaps and Facebook and other mysterious apps.
Customize the name and icon
This creates a widget for your homescreen.
When you open the widget, tap Google maps to unfreeze it and launch.
When you're done with GMaps, rap the widget again to freeze it.

The top left icon opens the Google maps Quarantine folder. Swiping up opens the app right away; this is for those days where I don't freeze it back because I'm going to keep re-opening the app.
Which one are you using, this one:
