I realised I was being very mindless in my app use on my phone. I'd get bored, go into my app drawer and then just find something interesting. To force myself to be mindful and only use my phone for things I need at that time I've hidden all icons from my home screen on nova, and have a gesture to launch App Search Plus. This means that I open my phone, start typing the name of the app I'm looking for and then launch it. I've found this has helped me be a little less mindless about things and think about what I'm doing.
I have Apex launcher, it's free and has gesture features.
It doesn't have app search in the drawer (type in the first few letters of the app name and it will show you the app), but for that I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rjt.appsearch&hl=en
I tried it too, and for me it seems to only be disabled when you only press the meta key, if you presse it with something else like earlier said meta+L it still works. But that is pretty annoying, I found a half backed solution. I made a keymapp that opens this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rjt.appsearch with a double press of the meta key (if you make it with single press AppSearch+ also opens accidentally while using the touch pad).
