Holy Shit, you're not joking. Did anyone else bother to look up this app and the "Permissions" it is asking for? Lets take a look, shall we?
Example taken from: Google Play
Scroll down and under "Permissions" click, View Detail.
> Version 1.1 can access:
Identity: Find accounts on the device.
Contacts: Find accounts on the device
Location: Precise location (GPS and network-based)
Phone: Directly call phone numbers
Photos/Media/Files: Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage, read the contents of your USB storage
Storage: Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage read the contents of your USB storage
Wi-Fi connection information: View Wi-Fi connections
Other: Receive data from Internet, prevent device from sleeping, full network access, read Google service configuration, run at startup, & view network connections
So though this app, AZ DPS could:
See who you are and who you talk to.
Make phone calls with your device.
So much for needing a warrant to search your device. Install this and they'll have an open door to do what they want, when they want... and they'll have all your personal data...
Some aspects of this app are great. However, the potential for misuse is (IMO) extreme. What kind of oversight do they have? Who will have access to your info? How will they use it and when?
This app has more permissions than it needs and you can bet they'll use em.
I can easily see your own phone betraying you as it reports your speed, live, in addition to your location. Your photos? Hope there wasn't anything you didn't want them to see.
Have something an officer did that was questionable? Welp, they can just delete that before you can share it.
Think they won't misuse the app? Do any of you remember the Patriot Act? It was supposed to fight "Terrorists" yet is used almost all the time for everything other than finding terrorists.
/end rant
