It's so complex that it matters where you land your shells for sinking an enemy ship. If all your shells land on the tail end of a ship, that ship is more likely to sink tail first. If you put a bunch of holes in the port side, and the ship starts listing to port, but then you go around and start hitting its starboard side, you're actually helping it out by balancing the flooding. This is in addition to the already insanely realistic component damage system, where you can take out enemy ships' sonar, guns, rudder, propulsion, pumps, etc, depending on how much armor they have on those components, how large your shells are, whether you selected AP or HE rounds, and what angle your rounds impacted the enemy armor at.
It also has a stupidly complex dynamic campaign where no two campaigns are alike and the outcome of every battle determines the fate of the campaign.
And it has full fledged submarine warfare and aircraft carriers with small bombers, heavy bombers, torpedo bombers, fighters, and even rocket attackers.
Best game on Android ever, really, I mean that.
Every time I talk to someone about Android Gaming, I tell them about this game:

I say this with absolute 100% sincerity, that it is the greatest game I've ever played on Android. It's good enough that I have spent hours playing on my phone when I have a nice gaming PC with nice PC games on it right in front of me. It seriously should just be a PC game, but it works perfectly well on mobile controls. Now it's not an action/adrenaline/reaction time kind of game, those are fun too, but this isn't it, it's a turn based thinking game.
It's a naval ship battle simulator. And when I say simulator, I mean it's stupidly realistic. Not only can you damage individual components on ships depending on where your shells land (radar, rudder, steering, pumps, guns, etc), the sinking of the ship depends on where you put holes in the hull. So if you concentrate all your fire on the tail end of a ship, it will sink tail end first. If you rip a dozen holes in one side of a ship and it starts listing to that side, but then you go around and put a bunch of holes in the other side, you're actually helping the other ship by balancing the flooding out.
It has dozens of realistic ships with realistic loadouts, as well as fully functional submarine warfare, and aircraft carriers with small bombers, fighters, large bombers, torpedo bombers, and even rocket attackers.
And best of all, it has an incredibly in-depth dynamic campaign, where each individual battle changes the outcome on a world map of the WW2 atlantic sea campaign.
It's just so goddamn good. Go get it now.
> I just want a good mobile game that costs $1-10 and is a one time transaction.
Atlantic Fleet - Best game I've ever found on Android, period. It's a turn based naval battle sim, with an obscene attention to detail, like if you aim all your shots at the front end of their ship, their ship will sink front end first. If you pummel an enemy ship with equal shots on one side and the other, you're actually helping balance out the flooding, and you can sink an enemy ship faster by concentrating all your fire on one side.
Baseball Enlightenment - Made by a redditor, again an obscene amount of attention to detail. Includes its own framerate counter to make sure you are getting 60fps, as timing is extremely important in this game. Balls are hit based on where you hit them on the bat, and the timing of your swing, they spin or can even foul backwards depending on your aim, and you can pull or push opposite a ball depending on your timing. Has every pitch imagineable, and you can see the ball spinning in the appropriate direction to guess what kind of pitch it is - IE you can see vertical stripes on a ball if it is a splitter, or a red dot if it is a curveball, because of the way the seams blur together as it spins. It's more fun - and more challenging - than trying to hit in MLB The Show. It's fun even if you don't care about baseball. It also has an extremely hard mode, I'm talking flappy bird hard, called "The Natural", which disables all helpers and makes you guess what type of pitch is coming just by the seams alone. If you can beat The Natural in any mode at 50% pitch speed, you're a god.
And if anyone knows of any games with this kind of attention to detail, I love this stuff, please recommend them to me!
Atlantic Fleet is the greatest mobile game I've ever known. It is miles ahead of any other mobile game out there. The price looks high, but it's actually low, once you realise how good this game is. I have spent more time playing Atlantic Fleet on my phone than playing with my gaming PC.
And there's a free demo:

I've been on Android for about 5 years now, and no game has earned more hours of my time than Atlantic Fleet. It's a super realistic turn based WW2 battleship game with British vs German ships. Destroyers, cruisers, submarines, aircraft carriers, battleships, freighters, fighters, dive bombers, torpedo bombers, they're all there and all playable.
You take turns moving and then aiming your shots by dialing in the elevation and direction, kind of like 3D Scorched Earth, your radar man gives you a best estimate of elevation (which gets more accurate each turn), and you have to estimate wind deflection for direction. AP rounds are needed for heavy armored targets, and you have to think about how you are going to flood the ship. If you hit a ship from both sides, you're helping it out, because you're balancing out the flooding. If you hit a ship entirely in the stern, the stern will sink and point the bow up in the sky. If you hit a ship entirely in the port side, it will roll over and capsize. Super realistic flooding compartment physics, with flooding pumps that can try to balance out the flooding, and be disabled.
Individual components of ships can be destroyed, from turrets to propulsion, steering, radar, sonar and torpedo launchers and more. Because submarines are playable, you can also view all ships from below the water, and inspect the damage to them.
The only flaws are that it can be a little hard to dial in the correct elevation and direction on a small phone screen, and the advanced campaign UI can be difficult to understand at first. Other than that, the game is incredible, I wish it was available on PC.
> Instead of going through top lists, scrolling down the first page when you open the Play Store, there are lists that are "recommended for you" based on what you've downloaded. On top of that, there are lists on an app's page displaying "similar apps" or what "other users installed". I use this method when just searching keywords that might interest me.
Yeah, I always look at those lists, but I haven't found anything worthwhile in them in over a year, I think they're only partially "suggested for you" and there might be some list manipulation trickery going on in there too. I actually have better luck by entering all my favourite games into www.tastekid.com.
So as for my gem of games, here you go:
Atlantic Fleet - Quite possibly the greatest Android game I've ever played. I've spent more time in this game than games on my PC. It's a turn based WW2 battleship simulator, with extremely realistic penetration, flooding, and component damage mechanics, and a very complicated and deep dynamic campaign mode.
Sky Force - The only shoot-em-up style game I've ever come across that is worthy of a comparison to Raptor: Call of the Shadows. There's even subtle references to Raptor in the game. I had so much fun playing this game for weeks, that I ended up spending $2 on the star doubler. Haven't spent a dime since, but I've enjoyed it for over a year.
Portal Pinball - It's pinball done by Zen Studios, so you know it's going to be good pinball, but then it's Portal on top of that. It's a blast, I've spent many hours playing this.
Blocky Roads - One of those "hill climbing 2D driving" games, but way more fun. Only downside is that the game itself is pretty short. But you can build your own cars like Lego blocks in 3D, so it's got that going for it too.
MLB Perfect Inning 15 - If you're a baseball fan, there's just nothing that comes even remotely close on Android. Full advanced pitching and swinging mechanics that make it feel like a console game.
Quadropus Rampage - If you like roguelike-style games like Binding of Isaac, you'll love any game made by Butterscotch Shenanigans. I don't normally like twin-stick games on the Android because they're hard to play without a physical controller attached, but this one is fun even with the touchscreen controls.
There's lots more, but those are the only notable mentionables I currently have on my homescreen.

You didn't specify which OS, so here's one thats for both Android and iOS:

Probably the single greatest mobile game I've ever known in my 3 years of owning Android devices. I don't think I've ever spent as many hours playing this game, I even got an Android emulator on my PC so I could play it there, because there simply is no PC equivalent.
It's a 3D turn based WW2 battleship game. You move your ship, then you dial in the direction and elevation for your guns, hoping they're on target, and tap 'fire', and watch the shells fly, then the enemy does the same. Except there's so many different types of ships all the way from Corvettes to Battleships and everything in between, including functional aircraft carriers with a challenging bombing mechanic, functional submarines that can dive and be chased by destroyers with sonar, depth charges, and the Squid gun.
It's incredibly realistic, and you have to be careful as to which part of the ship you fire your guns at - there are no "hitpoints" here. There are real compartments with real flooding physics - if you hit nothing but the stern of the ship, the ship will sink with its ass up in the air. If you hit nothing but port side, the ship will roll over port and capsize. If you hit both sides, you'll actually be helping the enemy ship by balancing the flooding. And of course you can damage various components around the ship too.
It has single battle mode, an "Angry Birds-style" campaign (where you can get up to 3 stars on each level), and an incredible dynamic campaign where you move your fleets across the Atlantic and fight the entire WW2 Atlantic campaign, purchasing your own ships and sinking enemy cargo/submarines, with full size ship battles along the way, depending on which side you choose.
Hey if you're looking at the top paid list, check out Atlantic Fleet, it's freaking awesome
Wow, they don't show that part in Atlantic Fleet.
Great game btw, better naval warfare game than anything on PC.
