I ran into a similar situation with my mother. I'd recommend the Bible Gateway App. Has 90 different versions of the bible (if he's the kind of person who enjoys reading the different versions). It also has an audio component that will actually read out the verses for him if he so inclines. Lets him highlight verses and access a library of content around the stuff. It's a safe app and i'm sure he'd have fun exploring it.
BibleGatway has an app, and they always have the Douay-Rheims, NAB, RSV, and NRSV, so unless you're a Jerusalem Bible fan, you're covered.
This one? I don't see the NRSV in the list of versions offered.
There are NRSV apps, but they aren't quite as elegant in appearance/usage.
YouVersion is notorious for collecting user data. You can Google it. Avoid.
I prefer Bible Gateway.
