Boomerang for Gmail and Exchange.
It does a lot (and I mean a LOT), but the feature I use most is scheduled emails. I am a very early riser, and I send links and emails to friends and family as I'm thinking of them. My friends and family, however, are NOT early risers. Instead of having their phones chirp in the wee hours, I can use Boomerang to schedule a time or even date to send an email, or select "2 hours from now", etc.
Uses my Gmail settings and contacts, and pops up flawlessly as an option to "share with" in most Android apps.

Boomerang app? The app let's you schedule emails. App is pretty clean and design is decent. You can use it as your regular email as well. I use their Chrome extension most of the times. The app is surprisingly good and works like a charm. Boomerang
have you tried any of these? If so how do they compare to "do it later"? Https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caramellabs.emailme

Girl, you suggested the solution yourself. If you have android check the Boomerang app, or google any email/text scheduler if you have iOS. Make sure to check that the app sends your message even without you being online/having a signal at the moment of sending, and set reminders for yourself to remember to cancel the message in time.
There is a google/Gmail/Microsoft add in called Boomerang. You can set a response tracker based on a period of time if you haven't it back it will notify you. There are some other useful things as well, but response tracker keeps emails and details from slipping through the cracks. Check it out! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.baydin.boomerang
