This is great advice. With limited quality assets you can still make good looking games. For my first game shameless self promotion I made a break out clone too and build upon some assets from keney. A arcade game is much better suited for "simple" art I guess.
I usually take some free or cheap art and create similar stuff or alter it to speed up the process. For this game I used the pack from Kennyland. The space ship (paddle) is assembled from parts, created the blocks myself in the same minimal style.
Well, I released Bounce and Break on android almost two months ago and it could use some extra publicity. I also created the game RoFactory for the 72 hour game Jam #gjgdcjam on game jolt which is currently playable for Windows, Linux and Mac.
Let me know if you want to cast about these games, I could even join you on a stream to answer questions.
Congrats, I released my first game a view months ago. It's hard to get noticed in the play store but your game might be unique enough to do better then mine.
Just keep on developing games and perhaps participate in a game jam or two. A game jam will teach you how to work with a deadline and you will end up with something playable in the end that you can tweak later.
Good luck fellow indie dev!
