Cal is what I use and its really good. Plus, its beautiful too.

You can connect it to Any.do. Its a Task and To-do app. Fits perfectly well since both are made from the same company.

I had a similar problem with my coworkers calendars. Installing Cal gave me access to more settings then the stock Google calendar app so I could get rid of the notifications.

I use Month widget with Google calendar. Widget looks great and can view events from launcher homescreen (without opening Calendar)
