Smart IR remote by color tiger
got it when it was on sale, but it's like, 10 bucks now. Customizable as hell. Add remotes for anything, even make a smart remote to control different devices at the same time. Has options for macros, so you can have one button execute multiple actions, (turn on tv, change input and change channels on cable box...)
It's also integrated with Google now, so you can change channels by talking to your phone. I'm in the process of building the perfect remote.
You'll find that you have an app installed that displays these ads. It saves the images on your phone so that it doesn't have to re-download the same images for the same ads every time.
If you can find the folder these are stored in on your phone you can create a blank file named '.nomedia' within the folder and your gallery won't show the images anymore.
Alternatively you can do this with this app
I've emailed so many news outlets trying to get them to publish this problem. Google and samsung refuse to respond.
Get and use Google Photos, it will back up photos to the cloud as you take them, or when you connect to WiFi (as per your settings). Then you will never lose another photo to a phone problem. https://photos.google.com/apps
It happened to me, and I just spent $10 on a variety pack of compatible Anker cables from Amazon.
Edit: here's the link! Also, it's like $16. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0146G1M9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ro6lxbCMECQ52
My S6 has that CE0168 as well.
I believe (could be wrong/inaccurate) the EU versions all have this.
Mine is definitely not fake, so I would assume yours is fine also.
If you're unsure, download the CPU-Z app to check system specs. The fakes ~~usually~~ have very different specs to the official models.
You can use a disk analyzer and find out what's taking the space. Here's a free one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
It's usually either cache or my downloads folder for me.
If you want a better cleaner and whatnot, use SD Maid. You have to pay for some features though.

Get the S6. I was an iPhone guy since the original. I had the iphone, the iphone 3g, the iphone 4, iphone 4s, and the iphone 5s. The reason I kept the iphone around was I using the apple eocsystem (macbook pro, apple tv, mac pro, and icloud.) I got a new job and returned had to return the mac pro I was using. I decided to build a new pc instead of buying another mac. I now use Gmail, Kodi, and hangouts instead of their apple counterparts. Forward your icloud email to a gmail account. Export your contacts from icloud and import them to gmail. Use google photos instead of icloud photos. Almost every ios app is avaliable on the google play store for android. I have don't have any issues with crashing. Iphone apps crash just as much as android. There is a bit of a learning curve making the switch. You have to learn where the settings are on android vs where they were on ios, but you can do a lot more on android. You can customize almost everything to suit your needs. Using Tasker to automate things is awesome. I also love the multitasking, back, and home button on the s6. The only reason I'd say not to get an android phone is if you're the kinda of person that doesn't like to tinker with stuff. If you want an out of the box thing you're used to go with the iphone 6. They've finally polished android where it's it's just as good as iOS and you can add your own custom bells and whistles. I didn't lose anything going from iOS, but I gained a few cool things.
Telegram has no upper limit on file sizes when sharing media. And I think there's an option to send uncompressed files too...although I haven't tested this out and don't have my phone on me at the moment.
you can do that using Zooper widget pro and S6 zooper widgets
You don't need root for either of these.
ELI5 Version:
Turn on USB Debugging.
For a Mac: Download ADB.zip
For a PC: Download the above file and the Drivers.exe
Install the drivers if you have a PC and unzip the zip file.
In either command prompt or terminal navigate to the folder where to unzipped it.
Plug in your phone and let it install drivers if you have a PC
Type in one of the commands above.
(enter "./" before the command if you have a mac)
I use Helium Backup to backup and restore app data, although it is a hit or miss for some apps. A computer is required to activate it every time you reboot the phone.
For ad blocking, I use Adguard. Does the job well and if you want to pay premium, it'll disable ads from apps too.
It's because you're using an app that "dims" the screen. What it's actually doing is putting an overlay over the screen. Android doesn't allow you to make any installs when the screen is overlaid because it could be for nefarious reasons. It's a security feature. Your screen dimming app probably informs you of this on the Google Play store or in the app.
My preferred screen dimming app is <strong>Darker</strong>. That app tells you in the app description.
>Note: When manually installing APK files, Android blocks the "Install" button from being pressed when Darker is running. This is NOT a bug. It's a protective measure to prevent malicious apps from camouflaging the install button. Pausing Darker will solve this.
One workaround to get rid of it is to install Lux Lite, it handles auto brightness a lot better than the default system and is configurable. Using this replaces the slider with a (rather ugly) notification, you can then go into Settings -> Applications -> Downloaded -> Lux Lite and uncheck "Show Notifications"
Now you have no brightness slider and a better system for auto brightness. One downside is that you will have to close the app because Google Wallet in apps and SuperSU (just the pop up asking you to grant root permissions) will not function while it is active.
Keyboard: Google Keyboard
Messaging: Textra
I've been using Sleep as Android for years. It's fantastic. The optional "captcha" feature to turn off an alarm is a lifesaver in the morning when I'm sleepy, and the sleep tracking works well. It's also good just for normal alarms.
If you're on Verizon like me, you can figure out which sensor (front and back) you have based on EXIF data. Download an EXIF viewer app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikufu_works.exifviewer
And check the ImageUniqueID property. It will look like this:
Image ID on the Sony: A16L*S*IA00VM
Image ID on the ISOCELL: A16L*L*IA00VM
You can use <strong>Microsoft Hyperlapse</strong> to create fast motion videos after the fact.
Don't think there's really a way to do slow motion that won't look crappy after the fact. I suppose you can record at 60 fps and play back at 30 fps but that's only a half speed reduction.
MW-Pen app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.xperiacle.multiwindow.enable
This app allows you to modify any non system app into being compatible with multi windows, also supports adding extra pen functionality for note users I believe.
Check it out, dead trigger 2 and reddit sync.
Should be in the Google play store, a lot of times for new apps I find another published app by the developer (Samsung) and just click the more from this developer link at the bottom to find the other apps. Try this link, I'm on mobile and not sure how it will work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.spay
EDIT: looks like the app has been pulled, I had downloaded it a few days ago which is why I can still see it, Verizon might be getting ready to officially support it, give it another day or 2.
Download this app to get a quick setting toggle to turn it off https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dsamsung+multi+window+toggle&pcampaignid=APPU_1_J2b0Vay5H4Xr-QHUqJHADQ
So the way I have the unread counts set up uses two different apps.
Your first step would be to get Nova Launcher prime
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime
Next, download TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
You should then have unread count badges with the Textra app (once you enable them in the settings).
If you need help with the process, message me and I'll help you out.
It does support raw. The manual camera compatibility check is just crap and gives wrong results.
Currently I would recommend the new "proshot" camera app when you want to shoot raw. It's awesome, at least on the stock 5.1.1 rom. Not sure how well it works on a custom rom ... they can always break things. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot2
It even allows some manual camera controls while recording video ... definitely worth its money.
Download whatever icon packs you want. Awesome Icon app will let you change the icon graphic for anything on your screen one by one but its really easy. Will not work on the app drawer.
No root needed
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.momocode.shortcuts&hl=en
So its a bit pricy for an app but the app AnyMote is excellent. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy
You can create your own remote how ever you like it controlling multiple devices in one interface. Well worth the money IMO. You can even set up macros to turn off all your devices in one tap for example.
Minima Pro (link) is very much worth the 99 cents. It has a bunch of settings for the tilt, and comes with a bunch of very nice, customizable, material-esque backgrounds. You use the app to set your background, so it will work with any launcher.
Debloat. Keep it plugged in whole doing it. The first time I set up my phone I drained the battery 20%. It did get hot the first time too, but I haven't had the problem since then.
Edit: I do recommend getting Glove Box (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.glovebox&hl=en) of you have the edge. It's awesome.
Download the TWRP App from the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp&hl=en
Follow the steps. Select your model. It will install.
Download latest Magisk from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Transfer Magisk.zip on your phone if downloaded onto a pc.
Power off your phone
Hold down power, home and volume up.
You will get into TWRP
Install from Zip File
Go to where you saved the magisk.zip
Install it
Reboot.
Yeah nova's great but you may want to check out KLWP themes (Play link) and r/androidthemes
Im not sure if this is the correct place to post this but ive been using this beautiful live wallpaper that doesnt seem to affect my battery life really hard
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxelus.galaxypacklivewallpaper
Just throwing this out there for people who would like to use the beauty of the screen. I have mines to randomly select a "galaxy" every 30 mins.
Actually I just found a non root fix
An XDA user editted this app so that it would make the mobile data toggle show up, I just installed it and it works for me. I know it seems sketch as hell to be installing random apks, but it worked for the other users in that thread as well.
You do not have to keep it installed, you can just apply the setting, uninstall, and delete the apk. Setting persists after restarts as well.
I hate the crap out of my S6 Edge. There are numerous reasons but these reasons are something that most people wouldnt care about (im extremely critical of technology because I am very into it).
If you want to get into the S6, it might improve your experience if you do some research on how to remove the bloat on the S6. After you do that, go download a launcher (I strongly recommend "Google Now Launcher" for beginners. Its in the play store.). After that, download the Google Messenger (its miles better than the Samsung messenger because you can quick reply from any screen and it looks visually appealing). Lastly, you should take advantage of Androids amazing customizability. If your interested, download an app called Minima. This is by far the coolest live wallpaper set that you could get. There are layers of images that actually move independently from each other. Its amazing. You can also download different types of lock screens. There are so many options! In fact, pretend you didnt like the icons you currently have, then you can download an app that changes the look of all your icons! This is the one that I am using: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vertumus.elun
Customization goes so far that you can even emulate the iphone look! Everything from the notifications, to the control panel, to the icons, and even how folders look. Just be sure to explore all the options it has and do not worry about the transition. It should be very very very easy, especially on android. Good luck
ALSO BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD A DIFFERENT KEYBOARD! SAMSUNG'S LOOKS UGLY AS HELL. I use the Google Keyboard with a dark material skin. There are thousands of options but it is worth looking into the google one because of its simplicity, the great look, and the addition of the super helpful swype feature.
The Samsung App doesn't support it yet, but you can change it with other apps who use the camera api 2.
At the moment it works with the App "manual camera" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2
The developer of the app Camera FV-5 is also working on an update for the S6 to bring manual shutter speed and if you don't need the feature immediately I would probably recommend waiting for it. The manual camera app mentioned above is very unstable.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moletag.galaxy.s4.remote
Been using it for a long time. I love the simple interface, being able to start up right on my remote, and it has a huge selection of devices.
I heard that they fixed the 5.0 leak in 5.1 but that a new one rises when they fixed it, let me see if I can find any source.
Edit: Stock Android: http://www.zdnet.com/article/google-fixes-android-5-1-memory-leak-but-when-will-users-receive-it/#!
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
>Download the app.
>Open androidfiletransfer.dmg.
>Drag Android File Transfer to Applications.
>Use the USB cable that came with your Android device and connect it to your Mac.
>Double click Android File Transfer.
>Browse the files and folders on your Android device and copy files up to 4GB.
I'm not sure, GSAM wasn't much more helpful for me than the built-in battery stats.
For wakelock I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector.noroot since I'm not root, and just follow the instructions for setting up battery monitoring.
It showed I was getting thousands of hits on NlpWakeLock (under Google Services) per hour so I'm curious to see if anyone else was having this issue.
Edit: Looks like GSAM might have that capability if you're root, but that's not something I can confirm personally.
there is a permanent efuse in samsung phones they label KNOX. if you ever root the phone or install a custom firmware and its detected it will trip that knox flag.
that knox flag will prevent samsung pay from ever working again. its a security measure so that samsung knows that you have or havent tampered with the phone. i think it also voids your warranty.
you can check if your knox flag has been tripped or not if you download "phone info samsung" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en
Instead you should download the app called "google photos"
I believe it has unlimited storage!
Link to Google Photos in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos&hl=en
No root.
>I am getting into development, and want to be able to customize the phone more, especially for automating tasks
>I haven't been able to find anything at all with a simple google search
>So, is there not a way for this model of phone? Why not?
Verizon thinks you are incompetent and will risk their network.. .ish. .
No need for backups when most everything is sync'd to google - data like contacts, calendar, photos, and messages (google voice sms integration ftw).
The rest gets moved over when I have the new phone using something like Smart Switch.
Is there a certain easyhome? I tried this one. It seems to work-ish. I'll have to wait for the 110 apps to reinstall after the factory reset to really test it.
you need to download adblock fast from the play store and then go into settings on the Samsung browser and enable it.
Personally, I want Adblock, stickmount, remove crapware, custom ROMs, and other less significant things. IMO this shouldn't even be an issue and I will be avoiding companies and phones with locked bootloaders in the future.
Personally, I've been using the Google Keyboard on my previous Android and my S6 because it's quite similar to the stock iPhone one and has Swype inbuilt.
Pro Shot. It has every option you can imagine, and even shoots RAW.
EDIT: Shit, I don't think it's free though. You probably won't find too many good camera apps that are free with shutter options. Sorry. Maybe try it's Demo Version.
You've clearly got apps constantly running and you need someone who's tech savvy to fix that issue for you cause I'm willing to bet that if you're down to 18% by 1pm, you've got a lot of crap running that doesn't need to be.
I would suggest starting with greenify.
I agree with nova. The only issue is not being able to do it at anytime - only on the homescreen.
A utility that may work for you is All In One Gestures. It also allows you to remap your capacitive buttons at the bottom or add long press to them.
Something like this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.syntellia.fleksy.keyboard&hl=en
Or the same one you linked to?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riffsy.FBMGIFApp&hl=en
Get a case. I use the Speck Candyshell Grip.
A good third party launcher is Nova Launcher Prime.
As far as rooting goes. You may be out of luck if you just bought it. The lastest firmware hasn't been rooted yet without tripping Knox. Go ahead and update it to 5.1.1 if it's still on 5.02.
Searching reveals that this app can direct the "play" event to a player of my choice. That works for me too.
Is a third-party app really the best solution?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skimble.workouts
It's a workout routine app that I started using. It's actually really good and has some great workouts. If you sign in with your Samsung account you get 6 months of their pro membership which is like 42 dollars for free.
I just stole most of this. I used BobClockD3, though and it looks really nice.
Edit - BobClockD3 is broken, but looks really nice, so I spent some time and made a clone with ZooperWidget.
Havn't found a way yet. Don't think there is one without root or an additional app.
The S6 deals with notifications/alarms/ringers on a completely different tier than Media. Notifications/Alarms/Ringtone will always come from the speaker but Media will go through the headphones/headset if plugged in. No idea why the fuck Samsung did it this way but if you install SoundAbout then you can force it to do what you want.
i dont think the the controller is compatable just by doing that, theres an app called sixaxis and it should do what you want
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
I had this problem happen to me recently, but with Shuffle+.
Try Bluetooth connect & Play : Link
That fixed the issue for me, not sure about Spotify, but I bet it will work.
NFC is short for "Near Field Communication" and is a reader allows you to use the "tap to pay" feature on phones. You can also order NFC tags on Amazon, Google, or other sites and it will allow you to automate some processes via some apps. I use Trigger. For instance, you can make a tag turn on Bluetooth, turn off WiFi, turn on location, and pull up your music playing app by tapping on one you place in your car. I have one that turns on my Bluetooth, connects to my Bluetooth speaker, and starts playing a playlist.
For normal stuff I like the Samsung App.
When you want to shoot raw or have manual shutter speed try the new app "proshot". It's brand new and on sale until 11th or so. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot2
http://www.riseupgames.com/proshot
I've tried camera fv-5, snap camera and manual camera but this new proshot camera is the best imo. It even allows manual focus and exposure compensation while recording video. This app is amazing and has a pretty nice interface.
But it requires the 5.1.1 update which most users should have now on the S6.
Google Camera is one of the worst camera apps I think.
You can check your knox status with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bryancandi.knoxcheck&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dknox+checker+android&pcampaignid=APPU_1_8bqcVbHYHMjBsAXg-rbgBQ . As long as you're rooted with pingpong and you flash roms via flashify then it shouldn't be tripped
My Fifty Shades of Blue Homescreen
Nova Launcher Prime
Moonshine Icon Pack (Stamped Blue Icon Pack for Snapchat)
The "Google Play App" is actually Phonograph Music Player, but I like the Play Music Icon More
SMS App is Textra, not Google Messenger, but I like the Messenger Icon More
Wallpaper found on Google Images
You'll need a third party program for this. I use Cerberus. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
It has an option that on your lockscreen you won't be able to access the power menu and/or swipe down from notifications.
I don't have an impressive home screen worth showing off, but I did setup Nova Launcher to open Ovo Timer when I do a two-finger clockwise rotate gesture on the home screen and it's very, very satisfying. If you have Nova and use Ovo, I highly recommend it.
No, you shouldn't have.
An easy way to check is using a number of different apps if you don't want to boot into download mode such as: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bryancandi.knoxcheck_v2
There are live wallpapers that do it. Particularly this one is my favorite. You can tweak the settings to make it a really slight tilt or make it heavier for a more 3D affect. Works pretty well.
I think I can help you out, my friend. Try this application out: Glimpse Notifications.
Should do exactly what you're requesting.
it's a system wide thing, as far as I understand it you basically have to change the "font" for the emjois.
If you have root, This app worked to switch them on my Note 4 but it requires root.
/spam
Those apps claim to actually "repair" the battery cells, which is not only impossible, it's also completely ridiculous. Nonsense backed by bulk buying of fake ratings.
Greenify would actually make a difference by hibernating apps that arent used.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
Or Amplify (which is not available for the S6 yet due to needing Xposed framework)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.nlpunbounce
I've used the combination of SMS Backup & Restore and SMS Backup+ on all of my Android devices since way back when.
The first one keeps a local SMS archive backup in XML format and does an excellent job of migrating all of my SMS, MMS, and group conversation threads between any Android device (fresh wipes, new phones, etc.). It has really good additional features for scheduled backups being pushed to cloud storage overnight or whenever you set it.
The second one is a really good on-the-fly backup that pushes every new message to a custom Label in my Gmail account a few minutes after I receive it. (I don't like using it for restoring SMS, although it has that feature. It still doesn't restore MMS after many years in development :P) I suspect that you'll be most wary of this app in comparison to the battery-hogging AT&T Backup. Don't be. SMS Backup+ has never been a battery hog in the slightest in all my years of often shitty battery life Android phones.
Download Galaxy Charging Current app and see the charge rate for yourself. I've seen significant differences between USB cables. I don't know what it is about the cable that's different, but here are my test results:
GS1 official cable, charging my GS4 = 760 mA
GS4 official cable, charging my GS4 = 1,200 mA
>
And here you go ...
http://www.filedropper.com/cbsnewssoudner1969 (I ripped mp3 from Youtube video, then edited the 15 second clip down to 4 seconds with fade out .. so its good for audible alerts)
The screen on time is between 2 hours and 3 hours. I would recommend the S5 or S7.
Don't trust review websites or online spreadsheets. Perfect example here: https://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3
According to this, web browsing lasts 10:56h However if you actually use this phone, you know that web browsing lasts a maximum of 2:30h
Sure, these are the ones I used. Please let me know if it works for you. I'm still getting the server error.
Let me go ahead and see if this is something I can replicate, so I can help you out more.
Edit: So, I couldn't replicate it. Even figured I'd buy Relay Pro and try it out, but worked fine. Have you tried the simple stuff like wipe Youtube app data, Relay data, etc? Next step is to sign out of the Google account on the phone, wipe Youtubes data again and sign back in to your Google account, then into Youtube. If your connection is weak, it won't work well frankly as I've been there and had to deal with that. If none of that works, try a different Youtube version here. This is a reputable site, so definitely the best place to fall back on a version.
According to this page on XDA, your phone is compatible with Magisk. Go ahead and flash twrp through Odin, and then install Magisk.
Yeah as the commenter before me said, you don't need iTunes anymore. Just drag and drop like you would with any other storage device. If you have a Mac, what I use is Android File Transfer, and as soon as you connect your phone, it opens a window and you just drag and drop any media you like. It's much better than iTunes with their file restrictions and arbitrary limitations. That's actually one of my favorite things about Android; a proper file system, and no reliance on proprietary applications.
Edit: Whoops, didn't realize how many others replied too. I'll leave this for anyone else that stumbles across the thread at a later date though. Here is the link for Android File Transfer for Mac for anyone else who needs it.
Sure!
I find a lot of my images on http://allthefreestock.com/ - has some cool stuff that you can use on phones.
This and many more 1600x2560 can be found on InterfaceLift.com.
AdGuard can do it. It sets up a system VPN (thus root isn't needed) that can block ads on any network connection from your device.
Google removed it from the Play Store but you can sideload it from here: https://adguard.com/en/adguard-android/overview.html
For your question regarding access to all features, see if the Galaxy Wearable app is installable on your device:
Or
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager
I have been using the iOrange-E cables from Amazon and have been quite impressed with the build quality. The connector isn't too large either. They also conform to the high speed charging standard of the GS6
That is most likely your problem right there. If you buy stuff off Amazon, you can get a great case for under $6, and then you can leave your phone face down when it isn't in use so that gravity and dust are not your phone's worst enemy.
**EDIT: Oh, and just so you know, that case I linked is the one I've been using on my phone for almost two years and it is amazing. Couple good drops and still not a ding on the phone at all, and it has the little lip I told you you need so you can leave your phone face down and not worry about it getting scratched by dust/etc on the surface you lay it down on. You really should never go without a case for your phone.
This is the one I ordered. The first one I ordered was nearly 5 stars and about $15 more. They're exactly the same. Not sure why. I also recommend a glass screen protector. They have them at "5 Below" stores around me but you can get them on amazon for a few more dollars as well.
Edit: Also worth mentioning that headphones will not work with the case on unless you get an extension. They're pretty cheap and I keep some in the car, but honestly it's easier just to pop the case off. Not so easy when it's the cases that snap together. That's mostly why I switched.
You can try installing Signal Check Light and it should tell you what you are connected to. If it doesn't make any sense to you, post a screenshot. I am about to fall asleep, so I won't answer for a few hours, but I'll check when I wake up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueline.signalchecklite
Had it for a few days on my Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge+ phone. No problems here. Love the quick settings. I use the tiles app but a free version with not as many options is Nougat Quick Settings
Although I don't use it for the back button (I use it for home and volume), I've found that the app: Pie Control has the functionality of a back button. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrol Mind my formatting, I'm on mobile. I hope this helps!
If the phone is warm while not doing something intensive like a game or.. Maps let's say and ESPECIALLY if while the screen is off then you have a wakelock (or several). This can be said of any phone- not simply ones with mediocre battery life such as the S6.
Without root the best way I've found to track them down is with Wakelock Detector Lite. Whether you'll always be able to do something with the knowledge of what's killing your battery is another story unfortunately.
I don't think Samsung cloud backs up 3rd party apps, but I don't have it personally.
Hey what are the apps that you can't lose data of? In my experience, the apps that actually need backing up (WhatsApp and games) offer in-app backups already. All other apps just need a log-in or a couple settings changes.
Also you could have a look at this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en I am not sure if it will work, recent reviews do not look positive... It doesn't require root though.
I was a big time blackberry fan. S4 was my first android. SwiftKey is hands down the closest you can get to a physical keyboard because of its accuracy and predictive text, IMO.
Here's a download link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey
Unfortunately the backup functionality isn't as comprehensive as apples system via iTunes. Though you can download and use Samsung Kies to do something similar.
A more manual method of copying your files from your phone's SD card to your main computer just like a regular HDD works too and is what I did.
Investigate the section in your phone's system setting 'backup and reset'.
You have the option of backup up via your Google account and via your Samsung account. Wouldn't hurt to do both just in case one fails.
SMS's have always been tricky. I use an app called SMS backup and restore which saves them to you google drive (an option you need to select) and can schedule to keep backups, handy if your phone dies, you lose it or if you need to factory reset.

Here's a little app, all it does is it turns off the screen BUT: without explicitly locking device. Does not affect unlocking. You can assign it to Nova Launcher gesture to turn off screen without the "security policy" message.
(It temporarily sets an ultra short screen timeout to make screen turn off without explicitly locking the device. The lock screen will activate according to your device settings. This technique does not interfere with Smart Lock, Fingerprint or other biometric unlock methods.)
BENEFITS
Play Store: <strong>Screen off via short timeout</strong>

I've used many texting apps including Textra, Google Messenger and the default app, but my favorite is YAATA. Free, super light and fast, and it supports text bubbles like Facebook messenger. Edit: Here is the Play Store link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rpkandrodev.yaata
Glad I'm not the only one!

Would you mind downloading and running this to see if you can get through?
I previously got stuck at "Register for Push Notifications", but after clearing google services and accounts data I was able to get past that, but later got stuck at "Notification Arrived" in step 3.
This is very annoying alright. Samsung have supposedly reversed this with August security update which i haven't received yet. Use the app below to resolve it until then, works really well.

Whenever you open a new type of link (video/music/webpage etc.) click this new app. Then this new app will give you the options like you used to have. You can also set defaults if you wish in the settings. I wish I found out about this ages ago but I was stuck with same issue as you for a long time...
If all you need is f.lux, try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.lux&hl=en
As for if its worth it to trip Knox, that's really up to you. Personally I did. You lose Samsung Pay permanently, and your warranty is void. Didn't matter much to me, so I did it anyways, but it's really up to you.
This seems like a good start, I hope it'll receive regular updates. In the meantime, I'd suggest Glance Plus, as that one is much more customizable.
No. I've been using the ClockWorkMod tether app/desktop program with great success, though. Bought it with Google Play credit from the Opinions app. Requires USB data connection for tethering over USB, but works like a champ.
Your phone will display a notification if it is getting too hot.
In case you want to measure your phone's temperature more accurately, we would recommend you to download an app on Play Store. You can install one of those two apps below to know the temperature of your phone when it charges. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en_GB https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl=en_GB
If the temperature is at or below the recommended 48-49 degrees Celsius, there is no cause for concern.

It is hard to tell what is really going on looking at the built-in battery tracker. While stock Android gives us a few more tools (such as inidications of wifi and cell transmitter usage) this is hidden in the Samsung version.
Try downloading a more robust battery tracking app like GSAM (very popular around here) and see if it does a better job pointing out the source of your problem.
