Minus the birds, this looks a lot like a picture I took years ago and posted on the web: https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/2hyqti/the_pacific_coast_from_ecola_state_park_in_oregon/

I'm the photographer (colindub) of this picture ("Antelope Rose") and was happy to see it got some love on EarthPorn!
FYI: There is a bigger version on interfacelift

It is a composite. Read the info at the link. Fun photos to do, but they sure don't represent reality. I spent many nights high above Berchtesgaden staying in a lodge up near the Jenner mid station. The stars were gorgeous up there, but only if you looked directly overhead. Europe has soooooo much light pollution. You'd definitely need a long(er) exposure to pull all those stars out for this picture
Yeah, the Michigan version looks like the photo at this site. I back searched the OP's photo and found this, which says it's apparently Fairplay, Colorado.
Either way, it's pretty!
iPad wallpapers are actually square, because they have to account for rotation in both directions.
Try InterfaceLift. They have a lot of very high–quality wallpapers that you can use on the iPad.
As tends to be the norm in this subreddit, these can all be found (with some clicking, mind you) on InterfaceLift minus the blogspam and complete with descriptions.
Oh no! I posted incorrectly and lost all my text. The photographs are mostly from interfacelift with a few from Reddit. I wish I'd saved them as the author's names, I apologize for not having proper credit. I take no credit for the photographs.
These aren't the highest resolution, I made these for my own 13" laptop so I can better memorize the circle of fifths. I edited them in a lossy way so unfortunately it would take forever to go back and redo them all.
Though I've also included the template at 3840 x 2400 for those of you who'd like to use it.
The typeface I used is Jaapokki by Mikko Nuuttila, which is free to download!
Hope some of you enjoy, let me know if you'd like to see more.

Check out http://flickholdr.com/. It will give you placeholders from Flickr images, and you can even search by tag. The speed isn't the best, though.
Another option is InterfaceLift. It's a wallpaper site, but they have some pretty high-resolution images, going up to 2880x1800. All free.
I love this image. It makes me feel like I'm alone on a chilly morning, maybe taking a walk enjoying some time to myself. The mist on the water seems so fluid and the colors in the sky are amazing.
The original is here and there are many more sizes for download. Enjoy!
def bullshit: you can get it on a site called Interface:lift if i have time i'll find it and post it with photgraphers credits. Why do people do bullshit like this? HERE IT IS (LIAR!): http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2309/orange_road.html

Formatted 2048 x 2048 Wallpapers and you can use this Firefox plugin to batch download.
http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/downloads/date/any/ Has a lot of 2540x1440.
Remember though you could use lower resolution wallpapers and it would look fine. It would still be a 15 or 17" screen, which typically has a resolution of 1600x900 area.
I have windows 7, so mine cycles, but it is at the moment this. I got it from InterfaceLIFT, an awesome wallpaper website
I'm having some difficulty in finding the exact one, but I know for sure that the first one comes from interfaceLIFT. I suspect the second one does as well. The version i have is the 1440p one on my iMac anyways, but they have a search function and loads of other retina wallpapers.
Good luck!
The downside of a retina macbook is that if you use this as your desktop background, you won't get any work done because you'll just want to stare.
Not trying to be one of those D-bags who call people out, but I happen to have the original photo as my desktop right now that I got here: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2771/sunset_flames.html
Cool alteration though.
A beautiful image of an iconic location. I especially love the rays of sunlight streaming through the clouds.
More sizes can be found here.
It's not an ad, it's a watermark - aka credit. I thought it was a fair deal to put a small watermark on it that is completely covered by the lock screen. You won't even notice it when you set it.
If you want no logos, go check out my profile on interfacelift. Some of their crops are ok, but ultimately I decided to crop them to fit better. I hope that helps.
It took me half an hour but I finally found it. Murrays Bay, North Shore, Auckland, NZ. Here's the photographer's flickr.
Edit: Chris Gin photographed a large chunk of the wallpapers that get posted here, so I though you might appreciate this archive of his wallpapers-sized photographs which includes dates, locations, and other information.
I really love the colors in this image, and the iridescence of the bird's feathers. More sizes can be found here.
Note: I took the original image and flipped it to mirror the original, which is easy to do in most image manipulation programs. Having the bird on the right just works better on a default desktop icon arrangement.
Actually it's located in Hawaii. Here's the wiki
The person who took the picture confirms this too
I whole heartedly agree that this is an annoying problem. Yet I love the community of icon developers and ease of changing icons on the Mac. I'm sure most of us have looked through InterfaceLift: http://interfacelift.com/icons/downloads/date/any/
Portland, Oregon.
I thought it looked cool so I set it as my wallpaper, I usually use this site to find 4k wallpapers.
I'm not actually from Portland btw. I actually had to go find this image again on the site to tell you what it is.
Has some really pretty pictures on there, I definitely recommend it. I used to have London up for a while because that's where I live but I see it every day so.
I've transitioned to use only images i shot myself. That way I'm being remembered of nice vacations or whatever the shot is from.
Of course that won't help you so here: in the past I liked http://interfacelift.com very much.

Just did a quick google for a 3440x1440p wallpaper when i plugged it in :P Old 1920x1080 wallpaper had a funny look to it ;)
Same on all points. Here is my favorite. I also find myself moving windows around randomly enjoying how smooth it is. It kills me to use my 15" 60hz laptop when I travel for work all week =(
I just download Backdrops and download what wallpaper I want to use for the day or week.
If you don't want to download an app, just go to http://interfacelift.com, the app just makes it simpler.
The photo was taken in Portland Oregon here is a streetview of the bridge
This is probably one of my favorites. I had this wallpaper for the longest time on my desktop. I still have it on my laptop.
I recommend interfacelift. Great selection of wallpapers but even better is it allows you to search by a wide range aspect ratios and resolutions.
Looking for 2160x1440 (3:2) is a non-starter but 16:10 is pretty close and 4:3 isn't bad. Just make sure you bump up a step or two in resolution to compensate for the bit that'll get cut off (ex: A 16:10 will have a bit of the left and right hidden and a 4:3 the top and bottom).
very cool use of my image. i'm flattered you picked this one. for everyone that's looking for the high resolution version, i have my original file uploaded to interfacelift (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/3218/el_capitan_dares_you.html). i also have it available for licensing. you can contact me through my site, www.wasimofnazareth.com for those purposes.
It's a processed version of this picture.
I processed the image with a custom Java-program I'm currently writing to experiment with image manipulation. The filters I applied to recieve the result:

I have a similar wallpaper as my desktop background. I bet if you played with it in photoshop or lightroom you could get it the same black color.
Hopefully something here that satisfies everyone.
A majority of wallpapers are from interfacelift and wallbase. The others are most likely random sources.
This is Darkness Rising by Chris Gin. It was taken on August 22, 2009 in Murrays Bay, North Shore, Auckland, NZ, using a Canon EOS 40D.

This is in fact a picture of waterfront Vancouver, BC. I took it and submitted it to Interfacelift.com. Check out other ones of Vancouver by me if you want:
Most of the new ones are available in 960x800. I guess they introduced the Android resolution at some point and never got around to converting their archive.
The only reason I cared was because of that annoying and unnecessary "e" on the end of sky.
It turns out the original (thanks fletchnuts.) doesn't even have the atrocious mispelling.
I still wouldn't care, because two innocent mistakes are just that, but the mod/OP looks exactly like a spammer whose only submissions are from (I presume) his site.
Individually, each of these things is barely notable, but faplol, if you're going to steal other people's work and repost it to your own website so that you can spam reddit for hits or karma or greed or whatever you're trying to gain from this - while holding the position of responsibility supposed to protect reddit from this behaviour - then you deserve the community crucifixion that comes when the community is made aware of such selfish activities. And modding subreddits while potentially being a spammer is not something that's previously been tolerated particularly well.
As an aside, I do like this submission, this subreddit and imagelol seems inoffensive as of writing this. However, there is no excuse for ripping off other people's work onto a site that you spam excessively, AND MISPELLING A FUCKING THREE LETTER WORD.
Thanks for the wallpaper, though!
Awesome wallpaper!
For anyone else interested, I found the source. Its called The Eleventh Hour by Dominic Kamp.

I generally stick to wallpapers of nature photography. I know a nice website, InterfaceLift, which regularly updates with excellent quality photgraphic wallpapers from many different contributors. The best part of the site is, it has many different resolutions of wallpaper for almost any device, including Sony PSP, Android phones and tablets, and others, and it can automatically predict what resolution your device is displaying.
Thanks to your efforts I did some magic myself and found a HD version http://i.imgur.com/HHkPrxY.jpg
provided imgur doesn't compress pics but I don't think so
edit: actually I do think the imgur version is slightly compressed so here's the original link http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/De57fef1/03927_skogafossrawpower_3840x2400.jpg
This and many more 1600x2560 can be found on InterfaceLift.com.
Thanks man, the switches turn on whatever USB device is plugged into them. I use two different mice and keyboard at times when I'm playing different games so this way I can turn them on and off.

That blue line a little bit into the clouds on the far left side confuses me. Is it an edge of a layer of blue clouds that was added in post-processing? Beautiful image, nonetheless.
If people like it I would prefer that it be a mod post.
Anyway, let me link it here, because mine got downvoted and buried:

I had no idea about the cool storm drains in the UK. Thanks for showing me that.
I don't think this is a storm drain. I went back to the site that I found this on, and hunted it down for you. OP never said where this is. Here is the description: "The photo was taken in an underground gallery. It was never put into service and the gallery are now abandoned."

Is it possible that I've used one of your father's photos as a wallpaper?
It was a Li river photo, very much like the one you uploaded. I found it a year ago on InterfaceLIFT.
And yes, nice work.
This is my all time favorite site for wallpapers. It's devoid of hot guys, sadly, but most of the images people have captured are breathtakingly beautiful nonetheless.
>From the Orginal Artist:
"The stone arch gate in the woods East of St John's University, built in 1931 for a purpose I haven't been able to track down. It's oftentimes confused for the entrance to the original monastery site (moved in 1867 to where campus is currently located)."
this reminds me of the following picture in the same region of South Australia
this is not my pic, but taken from interfacelift.
Hey guys! The clock is HaxCleanUI, Horizontal clock. The color is white, and you can get the code for that online. The date is also from HaxCleanUI, Horizontal date. Used with Taskbar Eliminator and here's a link to the wallpaper which you can get in different resolutions. Glad to help :)
[Edit] Here's a link to the skin!
If you like the idea of people using your photo as a wallpaper, you might want to try submitting it to Interfacelift. I think they would love it.
Yup, it's a photoshop. The original can be found here: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2846/moonset.html
The artist/photographer is from Italy, and that's the location of the lake pictured. Too bad he hasn't tried submitting more.
Interfacelift is a great source of wallpapers because serious photographers post some of their best landscapes, nature shots, and photoshop works there.

I'm doing up a general how-to right now, but I'd also like to post a guide specifically for you. Would you please post/pm me a screenshot of your lockscreen with Nimbus turned on, so I can see the errors you're talking about?
Edit: Also, you're welcome on the wallpapers :) I can't take credit for them, I'm afraid. I got them both from Interfacelift. It's a great site with tons of beautiful wallpapers. I highly recommend.
Of course. The wallpaper is Earth and Moon, the dock and icon pack (minus a few of the icons) is MINIMUM^2, and the Menu Bar is inverted using Menu Bar Filter.
I love the stillness in this image, with just a hint of movement in the water and the fog creeping through.

I'm a little disappointed as I enjoyed your first post, but I found this picture rather familiar. It's different enough that I downloaded yours for my wallpaper but the similarities are numerous. Sorry.
IMO the colour situation is what makes this photo interesting. The Main Range area (where cunningham's gap is) is not exactly the most picturesque place, and it is certainly quite difficult to get an attractive photograph there. That's why you see so few, and why most people from Brisbane don't know main range very well (if at all).
I've taken a couple nearby, but they relied on weather and landmarks.
Of course, I'm a huge sucker for fjords and prominent mountains, so what do I know.
