That word. I do not think it means what you think it means...
It is a lovely open-plan living space!
Not sure why you have the character for "officialdom" or "an official" (吏) on the wall, but you can tell that the stroke order is very wrong. For example, the top and right sides of the square should be done in one stroke from left to right. Also, there should not be a hook on the final stroke that crosses the vertical stroke. It looks messy.
That being said, not a bad room. It's cohesive.
It is a bedroom.
It's the bedroom of Airbnb's 'pop-up' apartment inside the Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo (from last year). One lucky couple did get to stay there, and sleep in that room.
They’re peel and stick tiles I think. Thick plastic stickers, basically.
Edit: Upon closer inspection, it looks like she routed out a shallow impression for the tiles to sit in, and possibly sealed it all afterwards with some polyurethane or something. If so, it should be pretty durable.
~~I have some in my bathroom (regular tile/grout in an RV will crack from vibration) and I imagine the edges of it on the countertop will be difficult to clean properly, especially on a porous surface like wood, and may begin to lift after the adhesive on the edges is degraded by dirt/friction/moisture/cleaning products. Depending how the wood is finished/sealed, it may lift a lot sooner. If it does, they can just take a utility knife and cut it at the seam between the wall/countertop. Might take some solvent to fully remove the adhesive from the wood, though, which will likely damage the finish.~~
~~My first thought when I saw it was that they weren’t sure about cutting the sheet of tiles, so they just kept pressing it down onto the counter. So yeah, unique looking, but I anticipate issues after some use.~~
I'm the photographer, haven't shared anything here before. Feel free to let me know what you think about it or if you'd like to see the rest of the set.
Edit* Link to the rest of the photos from the set. It was a shoot for Poggenpohl, Downtown NYC.
Here are the photos. These are 1500 max so they are a little more manageable.
Ah yes, I found an article my professor wrote about it.
Unfortunately I can't suggest any books. But I also am interested in this topic for a month, and I have arranged a metting with the teacher I mentioned this week. I sure will ask for a few suggestions, and I can send their names to you if you want.
Their these floating cube shelves I got from a local hardware store, can't find the exact thing online but they're similar to these
And while you're in England, you should take a look at Lord Salisbury's crib.
ETA: I accidentally linked Burghley House, seat of the Marquess of Exeter who (in my defense) is a member of the same family as the Marquess of Salisbury. Lord Salisbury actually lives at Hatfield House which is just as gorgeous and almost certainly more historically significant, given its connection to Elizabeth I. It's good to be a Cecil.
here's a view looking the other direction
Here's the photographer's page with more shots
Portland has rules on short-term rentals, too (specifically AirBnB):
> Occupancy Requirement. Hosts with an accessory short-term rental permit are required to occupy the residence for at least 270 days during each calendar year.
Problem is, it's well understood that there's practically zero enforcement of these rules.
I guarantee OP's unit is in violation of this rule--no Portlander actually decorates their apartment like that. That room is what tourists think Portland life looks like, and it's been carefully posed so as to profit on our sense of desirability while exacerbating our housing crisis.
An update: another user on another thread believes that Amazon re-posted the same product under a different link but without this specific style. Here is that link: https://www.amazon.com/signwin-Abstract-Geometry-Artwork-Decoration/dp/B07SQW8Q28
The skyline is Tokyo. First thought in my mind too.
EDIT: YES IT IS! It's called the New York Bar in the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
I bet there are snails on the food too! You would think at a fancy restaurant like this they could keep the snails off the food.
Well for this project I used a heavy duty stainless steel piano hinge, but I recently discovered this: Hidden door Hinge System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BHON2XU/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_hcLGub17TAD3C Which I found while browsing reddit BTW. I think that if I ever going to do another hidden door I will use it.
Talk to this Pinterest user if you want to find out more about this place. They have the oldest origin photo that I can find online and their Pinterest account says they uploaded the photo opposed to finding it online. Not saying they know where it is but this is where the trail ends for me.
Just check Kayak and Hostelworld for random weekday dates a few months from now, you'll find a ton of options for all price ranges. Dont automatically write off Hostels. I know they have a reputation for cheap dorm style rooms, but the majority of Hostels i've stayed in (over 100 on 4 continents) all have private rooms available. They are usually more expensive than the dorm but still cheaper than hotels Plus, hostels have a very social atmosphere and are great for meeting other travelers.
When traveling, figure out what you want and how much you are willing to spend. If all you want is to be pampered on a beach, then you can save money by going to the Florida Keys instead of Cancun. If want to experience culture and landmarks, then cut back on the luxury parts. A hotel should be a clean and safe place to sleep and shower, you dont really need much more than that. You'll be spending most of your time away from the hotel room anyway.
Amazon has some great prices on rugs. We’re very happy with ours
Just be sure to get a nice thick felt pad for under it to add some extra cushioning.
I'm not super current on London real estate, but it seems like a "worst of both worlds" location. Map It's No. 5 Westmoreland Pl.
High priced area, but not inherently enjoyable or convenient - not a lot of shops or restaurants within a short walk, Victoria Station and Pimlico tube stop are both a good hike away, no nearby parks, etc.
It was silent for nearly 50 years. Cataphiles called the "Untergunthers" broke in for almost a year straight and fixed it in the middle of the night.
There's also a slight documentary-ish feature on them. I'll have to find it and post it later on.
I have a similar wallpaper as my desktop background. I bet if you played with it in photoshop or lightroom you could get it the same black color.
I just got this bad boy a few months ago. It's huge and heavy and totally worthy of being passed down through the generations. I got mine "Used - Like New" and saved $20, and it's one of the best kitchen purchases I've made in a long time.
I agree, I see these exact pictures everywhere especially the steer. It’s sold in every Target and HomeGoods in Texas. Oh, amazon has it too
I kinda doubt a place [this nice](https://www.behance.net/gallery/23385259/Loft-9b-(-photos-not-3D-) is that cheap. After seeing everything else, would you really say it's still that cheap? (I'm genuinely curious.)
also known as "artichoke pendant" -- they're awesome
I think you're right. This open floor plan with those giant windows must get really cold, and I can't even imagine how expensive it must be to heat this house.
The whole family probably walks around wearing Slankets all day lol. Be careful on those stairs, fam!
Not an affiliate or anything but I think this would be awesome in that room
The books in this photo are purchased in lots as decorative items. They are pretty uniform in height and width (no fatties). They are red, navy, brown, with a smattering of green and creme. They're all distressed canvas. No jackets, no paperbacks, no mass market paperbacks. You pay a premium to buy sets of thrifted/used books that look this way.
Right but it doesn't get down at below freezing for months on end all day. Nor do you have 90 degree nights for months on end.
The temperatures I reported are the daily high and low averages. Your weather is mild as a lamb. In fact its pretty much idyllic
https://www.accuweather.com/en/au/melbourne/26216/january-weather/26216?year=2021
For example January of 2021 had 4 days near or above 90f. Those days also all had lows 65. Not to mention at the other end of the spectrum it is years, decades sometimes between snow falls.
Your weather is extremely mild and temperate if a bit swingy on any given day and with the exception of climatalogical events like heat waves.
If you like that, then maybe you'd like to work at Coach (the purse/bag company)
Here are a couple of pictures from when I did a brief contract there back about 5 years ago.
Yo, that’s unnecessary. Why be rude?
OP, this is a IYKYK… (1) having outdoor space (2) that isn’t a fire escape or illegal roof (3) that you can make your own… <chef’s kiss>.
There are good outdoor space heaters you can get to extend the season. And here’s a link to the most amazing, bright outdoor lights. There are also some excellent solar ones out there. insane lamps
Grout should be sealed. This the highest-rated sealant on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/AQUA-X-Sealer-Commercial-Mildew-Inhibitor/dp/B07M7L92LW/ref=sxin\_15\_pa\_sp\_search\_thematic\_sspa?adgrpid=1346902312114671&content-id=amzn1.sym.6b029eb3-7d41-4744-b45d-69fe835e098d%3Aamzn1.sym.6b029eb3-7d41-4744-b45d-...
Nah man, whole house. Hook yourself up with a long handle wall mop and do it regularly. The more often you clean, the less dirt, grease, and grime has built up, so you just give it one or two passes and you're good.
I just use vinegar and water for most of my home, but my kitchen has super shitty ventilation so I add a bit of dish soap when I clean the walls and ceiling there.
Don’t listen to the amateurs. Get this and attach it to your drill. Cheaper than the Rubbermaid and you can bet much more powerful and longer lasting than an electric toothbrush-type thing.
Best purchase I made this year was getting a Rubbermaid power scrubber which is basically an electric toothbrush. My wrist and arm were so relieved!
The color palette and cabinetry work is beautiful but that Rancilio Silvia seems so out of place. I don't see a grinder so I assume they aren't pulling decent shots anyway. Might as well grab a green moka pot and a stovetop milk steamer if you want milk-based drinks. Would be about $500 cheaper too.
The bathroom is so nice and the vanity is definitely something I would want in my bathroom. Love the shelves. I think if you added some acrylic shelf dividers they would look great.
Canadian here. It looks like one of the sheds where road salt is stored and I had that idea years ago. Nicely done though.
Like others I would pass on the furniture. Someone mentioned the white (!) dining chairs; well I read the article so helpfully supplied by earthmoonsun and it's sheep's wool! Good luck getting the pizza sauce out of that!
I want one of the rooms of this color, but I'm afraid I'll get tired of it, it's too bright. Guys, I was advised to work with a designer from this site: https://planner5d.com/gallery What do you think?
According to NPR, there are three voting board members (commissioners) of the FCC. They are:
Republican Ajit Pai Republican Mike O’Reilly Democrat Mignon Clyburn
I’ve seen Brendan Carr’s name in several threads. Im not sure who that is.
Or is the NPR info outdated?
My first thought was these dinosaur kits
one of these suckers no pun intended (who are we kidding, yes, I intended it).
might as well go ultra modern...other high end ski chalet's look plastic w/the mega huge 'grand' rooms w/big fireplaces. *see also paulsons aspen retreat. http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/the-exchange/john-paulson-latest-investment-49-million-ski-country-160416152.html
I've looked into this quite a bit because I love the "perfect wall" science, and openness of the exposed beams. I'm in the short mountains in Oregon.
> must have some pretty big fasteners
Yeah they are no joke on either length nor expense. A way around using the super expensive ones is to do a double decking with rain clading. That way you can use the 6" or 8" power lags for all the foam, then the roofing just goes on the rain screen batons without specially fasteners.
The mountains around Medellin are about 6,000 - 9,000 feet which are higher than mosquitoes can fly. IN fact, they actually raise cattle for high-end luxury leather around here because mosquitos and another pest can't exist there and cause any blemishes and scars on the cattle.
I bet you could thin out the physical presence if you went to Project Gutenberg and replaced the physical books with ebooks. The content is the same, and you can donate the physical books to a library - doing some good for others.
Cliff May wrote a book in 19858 for Sunset magazine that had a lot of his designs and why he did what he did. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0940512041/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o02\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm unsure how my statement with sources isn't accurate or even refutes your citation. If there is something you would like to state regarding the articles I cited above, go for it.
Words change meaning over time, and the articles I provided (with cited sources of their own) specifically refer to modern contexts. The term is utilized differently than it was ~800 years ago. To add further information:
History of the etymology of "wilderness"
Nash summarizes the shift in meaning very well. In reference to the original usage, "The difficulty is that while the word is a noun, it acts like an adjective. There is no specific material object that is wilderness."
Off Amazon. Here is the Link
Cross posting this from /r/amateurroomporn since everyone seems to like it.
FAQ since there were are a lot of questions on that thread:
I'm pretty sure I got the rug on allmodern or overstock, but here is a link for Amazon nuLOOM ACR138B Hand Tufted Lumi Round Rug, 6' Round, Orange
The chair is a vintage Eames replica, based on the European Vitra version. No one can tell me who made it or how old it is, but it's old. It's actually a pretty faithful replica versus ones by Selig and plycraft from the same timeframe.
The big plant on the left is a Jade. Its 8+ years old and was grown from a dropped leaf from another 40+ year old plant.
The big bastard on the right is an aloe I bought at IKEA around 8 years ago as well. Its decided this year is the right time to make all the babies, so if anyone wants a free aloe lol.
And yes, I've got a cat. She's just not allowed in this room
On Android I use an app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mooglaa.dpdownload
In Firefox I use an add on. There's also add ons for other browsers, you just have to search in the add on store, depending on the browser that you use.
Ah so my guess is that it is a large box with the interior having a reflective sky blue paint and a powerful LED spotlight that is positioned far from the opening and since the box is horizontal, a diagonal mirror to direct the light downwards.
The only way to pull this off is with a lot of space above the room.
If I were to build this myself, I might use something like this as the spotlight: https://www.amazon.com/Primelux-8-inch-14400-Lumens-Driving/dp/B01K6JJ1R2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523809924&sr=8-3&keywords=Primelux+8-inch+14400+Lumens+Off+Road+LED
Probably about the same as any chair/couch in that range. I would assume genuine leather (i.e. bonded leather shit) that will crack and fall apart. Definitely not heirloom quality.
Regardless, the $6k asking price for an authentic chair is absurd.

PU Leather, so even more shit. Polyeurathane crap.
That is soo cute. But that price. Yikes.
So I went on Amazon and found a cuter one with a better price. The cupcake has a winky face, it's so adorable.
So true. As if it weren't enough, one further advantage of windowless rooms is that they tend to be cheaper! Double win!
This may help you though. Might not be as impenetrable, but has the advantage that you can write on it!
Placing a tall bookcase or two in front of those pesky windows could be another solution.
I bought this one.

Isn't this Bosch's Apartment from the amazon series?
Edit: Maybe same neighborhood
Thank you for the explanation! I made a cynical assumption and I appreciate your patience with me. In the states I'm just used to people using token 'worldliness' to feel more sophisticated. Since Scandinavian culture/design is currently all the rage in the U.S. I got a nice irony boner out of this photo. My ignorance was fun while it lasted.
Though I have to admit I'm even worse than my fellow countrymen who just like Ikea. I'm currently reading this book and loving it http://www.amazon.com/Norwegian-Wood-Chopping-Stacking-Scandinavian/dp/1419717987/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457716639&sr=8-1&keywords=wood+stacking+book So the neat wood stack in this picture is my favorite part. I also really enjoyed 'Lillyhammer' on Netflix and am still bitter it was cancelled.
-I do realize that Finland has nothing to do with Ikea or that show.
-Though the only things that come to mind when I think of Finland is the famous quiet Stoicism of the people and your amazing resistance to the Russians in WWII. I'd love to visit someday and annoy the locals with my endless chatter.
Good find! What did you search to find it? I managed to find a few similar items (like this cheap studio version on amazon) but nothing bespoke or as accurate as your find.
She's a keeper! Definitely of the 10%. Since the cabinets don't go to the ceiling you could probably drop something down and surface mount electrical on top of the cabinets. Wouldn't have to be pretty, only way you'd see it is if you were standing on the countertops.
Is this too cheesy? Only 6 bucks with shipping. I just ordered one for the hell of it / might use it in a closet. http://www.amazon.com/Operated-RTGS-Products-Satisfaction-Guarantee/dp/B004DYV2RE/
thought about a floor mat for your chair?
