Try Relay for Reddit.

I used to use (and love) Reddit is fun, but this one is so much better. Plus, its the only one I have found that can be completely used one-handed.
Just fyi this only works over a mobile connection when you have root access. If you do not have root access it will only filter ads when you are on a WiFi connection. It's always been this way https://adblockplus.org/en/android-about
Try deleting facebook and facebook messenger and use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
instead.
I did this yesterday, and I am getting about 2 hours more SOT.
The Room https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.FireproofStudios.TheRoom
If you like lifelike graphics, realistic sounds, great physics gameplay, mystery, and solving puzzles, get The Room. It's fantastic.
Noooooo, that's awful! It can't handle any pictures/graphs/formatting more than just changes of font sizes. It's really a terrible app.
I was referring to these:
https://products.office.com/en-us/mobile/office-android-tablet
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.word
Some common things to check for:
Go to Settings, Accounts, choose your Google account, then sync options, and disable every syncing service you don't need
You can disable a ton of included bloatware through App Settings, or using the excellent Package Disabler. Some examples are Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Samsung Text-To-Speech, the ANT+ Radio Services, etc. (Some of these may not be present on your device depending on carrier / version)
Download Greenify and configure it to hibernate power-hungry apps.
As another poster mentioned, keeping your phone in a location that has low cell signal will eat your battery quickly since the phone boosts its own signal to compensate.
The unfortunate truth is that Samsung includes a lot of custom services and things that constantly run and eat battery, as well as keep the phone from entering deep sleep. If you can identify and disable these, you should see some significant gains to batt life.
Amazon, The good brand is Anker. They sell a dual pack w/ a charger for 33$ and a single battery w/o charger for 20$. 18mo warranty. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-3220mAh-Replacement-Batteries-Samsung/dp/B00Q4NQQA0/
You probably don't need a new battery. My battery is still going strong for well over a year now. I've had odd battery drain issues from time to time. Check your battery usage stats first to see what the culprit is. There are a few things you can try:
1) Delete Facebook and Messenger apps. Not only will your battery life get better, your phone will be snappier. I thought it was a joke until I tried it. If these are essential apps for you, install Metal https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
2) Try clearing your app cache. You can do this by following the instructions here: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-clear-the-cache-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-4
3) Try a new USB cable and/or charger. I had a usb cable go bad on me and appeared to be charging to full, but the battery would drain like crazy. Definitely use a legit samsung branded charger and usb cable.
4) If you're rooted, you can try re-calibrating your battery with any battery calibration app.
If none of these options work, then I would consider trying a new battery, but I highly doubt that is the issue.
Set 2 (I put set 1 in another comment)
Here's how to set up a gem of a feature Nova offers. The first set was a mini tutorial for a function (which helps you cut the number of icons on your home screen in half), this second set is the enhanced version of it that let's you do more
Goal: Ability to tap on an icon to launch an app, and swipe on the same icon to launch multi window version of two apps
What's the point of this?: * You wouldn't need to use the mutli window button as often * Allows you to be creative to be more productive. Without Nova you would've had to use the mutiwindow menu, with it, it's just a swipe up away). You could set up Netflix on top and Reddit at the bottom (for casually watching a movie and browsing Reddit at the same time); or set up Whatsapp on the bottom and Reddit up top (easy sharing of stuff with your friends).
how to:
You are done. Now you can use that icon for all things Whatsapp. Tap on it and whatsapp alone pops up. Swip up and you'll get to browse Reddit and share stuff with your whatsapp friends. You'll be a superstar.
I use a Flipbelt ( FlipBelt Black Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JF9DWWU/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_G1KMub0X9HTY5) but move the phone to my front like a fanny pack. It is super low profile so my shirt covers it and nobody knows its there. It is also very snug and doesn't move around at all.
If you like pictures of landscapes, I have this stockpile waiting to go on my Note 4 this afternoon. Fair warning, 21 images each 5mb+
All of the pics are from /r/EarthPorn and I claim no rights to them. I made no alterations other than resizing and/or cropping them to fit the exact Note 4 screen dimensions. If any of the original artists have issue with these being posted here let me know.
I use my phone in landscape so all of these are formatted that way, but their resolution is big enough you should be able to set portrait and enjoy them.
I've just suggested this in another recent thread but install something like OS Monitor and see what process is using the CPU time
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor
Is it overheating?
Use this app to check for the emmc brickbug so you'll know.
A lot of non brickbug Note 4s do the early shutoff thing when the battery wears out. I'm not sure about the picture over text thing tho.
You need root access and wanam xposed. No other way AFAIK
edit: There is an app on the play store called 'Hearing saver' that won't disable the notification but bypass it. Seems to have worked for some folks: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jakebasile.android.hearingsaver&hl=en
The phone has its own app but it is spammy garbage full of ads.
The app I use is called AnyMote.
Anymote has a huge library of the IR codes for a TON of appliances that use remote controls (stereo, TV, AC unit, fan, projector, etc). Once you select your device (i.e. Sony TV) it will show you all the functions that exist on the OEM remote. You then can create your own "Universal Remote" page that has all the buttons for all the things you use together. It is a beautiful app with great usability.
I have a widget on my home screen that has a "power button" that will turn on/off any TV in my house, and then two different volume buttons that adjust volume on the different TVs in my house without ever leaving my homescreen.
I can understand ditching the headphone jack because of bluetooth options coming up, but literally everything and everyone still uses IR remote controls (with nothing new on the horizon) so I cant understand how the blaster is vaporware now. I dont use any remote controls at my house anymore (or even know where they are) and I can use it to control TV's at friends houses and at bars too.
The reason why your phone is rebooting constantly is because it has trouble waking up the cores.
download the app "wake lock - power manager" and set it to partial wakelock.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en
This should stop your phone from rebooting. This works by keeping the cores on at all times at a very low state. The con of this is that your phone will no longer go into deep sleep, which means a decrease in battery life.
I had this issue for a few months before I finally got tired of it when my second battery gave up on me too.
Supposedly the issue is with the SOC when it goes into sleep mode, so you need to stop it from going into sleep mode to stop the lag and restart issues.
You will need to download Wake Lock and then choose option 4. You have to do this everytime the device is rebooted. Kind of a pain, but it works.
Hey gang,
Checked my trusty sources (xda, at&t, and of course reddit) and couldn't figure out what exactly this update was for but just wanted to remind everyone in case it is a performance update of some sort, you might want to clear app cache and system cache after updating to potentially get the most out of whatever particular issue that may or may not exist this update may or may not have been made to possibly address:
Clear the app cache: Settings > General > Storage > Internal Storage > Cached Data > Delete
Afterwards, clear the system cache:
Hold down Home + Power + Volume Up to boot into recovery.
Use Volume to select Wipe Cache Partition and press Power to confirm. Once the system cache is wiped reboot the device.
If you are still having issues, refer to the RAM manager to see what might be slowing down the device (or murdering battery): Tap Settings > Apps > Application Manager > Options (3 dots) > Memory
Can't hurt to use a second app, such as gsam, to monitor app usage as well and look for discrepenancies.
I guess a workaround that can achieve this would be to download the app Gravity Screen. It will wake up your phone anytime you pick it up off the table or if you take it out of your pocket, and then all you need to do is swipe the fingerprint scanner.
Give it a try — it should work.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
I'm a big fan of squid (formerly papyrus)
Yeah, you can do that for photos and files. If you want to backup app data(settings, saved games, etc.), you'll have to use Helium Backup. Unless you're rooted of course. Are you rooted?
How to install apps to SD Card by Default
This may be a bit old, but it worked for me if you're willing to use ADB.
I use reddit sync pro there's also a free ad-supported version called reddit sync.
Xposed framework.
>Xposed is a framework for modules that can change the behavior of the system and apps without touching any APKs. That's great because it means that modules can work for different versions and even ROMs without any changes (as long as the original code was not changed too much). It's also easy to undo. As all changes are done in the memory, you just need to deactivate the module and reboot to get your original system back. There are many other advantages, but here is just one more: Multiple modules can do changes to the same part of the system or app. With modified APKs, you to decide for one. No way to combine them, unless the author builds multiple APKs with different combinations.
Edit: Also you can now flash different roms for your version of the Note 4. I use Arcadia Rom which is TW based but has less of the bloatware from samsung and runs smoother.
For those who are not willing to pay the subscription fees, you can also get the ability to play ANY YouTube video in the background by rooting your phone and installing YouTube Background Playback through the Xposed Installer.
Look at the date of the article. 2 Months ago+ .... 5.1.1 JUST came out... CF auto root only works for 5.0.1 and Below.... I just got my phone out of a soft brick, so here is what I did.
( Do this ONLY if the Stock Firmware file FAILS in odin )
I did this because installing the rom should restore the partition tables and get the device into "functioning" condition again. Then I flashed the 5.1.1 stock odin file and it worked. If you try flashing the stock odin file and it works, good. But if it constantly fails, this is one way to save your ass.
Are you using the talking calculators using Lastpass? If so, it's a known bug and there's a fix posted on Lastpass's website. https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=6576
It's also being reported with Pushbullet and Pebble. So if yours is talking and you have accessibility talk back turned off, it's probably an app causing the issue. Hope this helps.
Do you have LastPass installed? I found an article where if you have LastPass installed that your calculator would talk. I followed the instructions in the workaround but they didn't work for me. I downloaded a new calculator so I don't have to continue troubleshooting this stupid issue.
Edit Found the LastPass KB but like I said, my shit still talks and it's annoying as crap.
That is Major blackmailing, call your provider and talk to them etc. They can't blacklist your IMEI for fraud. IMEI black listing is for stolen phones, not because someone refunded you for a service you did not provide. Call your carrier and ask them what they can do about this. Screenshots, logs, anything. If they black list your IMEI your phone will basically be an itouch. It won't be able to connect to shit. Put that part in the Paypal dispute aswell, it will hurt their reputation. Find every place you can and put this in the 0-1 star review for them.
Edit: At this point I would just let the payment go through if it was me. My ~600$ phone isn't worth getting locked out over a small payment like that. There really isn't much seller protection on shit like this and that is why if you ever want to unlock it, get it done from a verified source. Just reading through these guys reviews made me chuckle. Whenever you see a review were the custom takes the time to name the entire website with the .com it's a fake 99% of the time. Literally 3 seconds of googling told me that site was absolute garbage. Look at these accounts with 1 review on record saying all the nice things about them, One of them is even an account called "T" That takes serious effort
Does your dad's phone syncs contacts with a Google account? If it does, here you go:
Go to https://contacts.google.com
Login with that account.
Check out the options. There must be an option to restore the contacts to a certain time.
You can also remove duplicate contacts there. You don't need to spend a lot of time trying to do that on the phone.
I recently got this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R3WK2LU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_A3zGwbQ27VWQZ
I haven't made my review on amazon yet because its been to short of a time but I'll give you my preliminary. It is not bad, i can feel it is there but not super noticeable. It does raise up the back cover on the flash and heart rate sensor a tad on the volume rocker side. It has a little adhesive that sticks to the battery.
I'll probably be giving it a 4/5 stars but if i could do half stars it would be a 3.5.
So if there are receivers thinner than 0.5 you could try those or samsung does make an official on for $30 i believe.
I just checked Amazon and there in stock for the 2 pack.
Here is the link for the Anker Batteries
Hopefully they restock soon. :(
get this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.systempanel.r1&hl=en_US
turn on monitoring and see what app is using your battery. get rid of those apps. for me it's been showbox and amazon apps that run way too much in the background
No problem. :)
If you want to get rid of the empty spaces, you can use Adguard Content Blocker along with SABS. Unfortunately, it only works with Samsung Internet Browser. It's not a system wide ad blocker. But it's light and works extremely well. Give it a shot if you haven't tried it yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adguard.android.contentblocker
I hope so.
A quick check, although I have the vague feeling you may have to buy the app (around £5), is to install Phone Info which will indicate an officially refurbished phone (also the date of manufacture) and other stuff.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
Install Wake Lock by darken and use on Setting 4, PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
It'll use around 10% extra battery a day but will hopefully extend its useful life.
If you're in the US it's worth contacting Samsung and paying the $70 for a repair.
That depends on what you mean by remove. Touchwiz is very much baked into the factory image, so you can't really remove it from Samsung phones without flashing a custom ROM. You are able to install a different launcher and disable a lot of Samsung bloatware which makes touchwiz a lot easier to deal with even without root. I recommend installing Nova launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher) and Package Disabler Pro (note that the play store version was neutered due to the Note 7 debacle but working versions are available via side load)
If you can get it to boot you could try installing Wake Lock and using setting 4, PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
If it is the mmc_read fail problem then you might get a temporary respite using that.
I've only ever used Nova Launcher so don't know if that has a beneficial effect on performance.
Although I use Package Disabler Pro and have disabled a lot of the bloatware I can't say it's had any noticeable impact one way or the other on performance. I mainly installed it to get rid of the annoying Game Mode notifications.
I'd try something like OS Monitor and see what processes are taking up the CPU time when it's particularly sluggish:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor
I had the same issues. I downloaded Wake Lock and set it to "partial wake lock" and that has fixed all the constant reboots. It's still a bit laggy but much better than before.
Squid, formerly known as Papyrus. Been using it for years.
I can't really say why I like it over any other note-taking apps. Papyrus was just the first one I started using when I got my Note 4 and I had no reason to explore alternatives.
I installed Better Open With which allows you to have multiple "open with" options as well as a default which is called if you make no choice (it's timer based, and you can set the time.)
Funny you should ask. I had set up something like you describe the other month, though I haven't used it in a bit for boring and complicated reasons.
So the way I set it up was using Tasker in conjunction with Join and Anymote (which if you haven't bought it yet, while expensive, is by far the best IR remote app out there). You can use Tasker to send a message (I used numbers) from your current phone to your old device through Join (I believe that "Join" will show up under the plugins section of Tasker, once you install it) and set up a Task on your old phone to react to the message by blasting an Anymote IR command. I use Tasker widget buttons on my home screen to trigger this, but it'd be easy enough to alter the new phone's Task to automatically trigger when, say, you connect to your home wifi (at certain times of the day). There are probably much better ways to do this, mine is by no means the most efficient solution, but it's what I found that works.
I haven't looked at it in a while, but I'd been meaning to set it up again and would be happy to elaborate and try to help you. Cheers!
Very welcome! Glad you got it working ;)
Regarding running a direct "Activity" within an app, it may be available in Tasker's "Launch App" action. When the window opens for you to choose the app to launch, long-click on the app name/icon to see a list of available activities in the app that Tasker can go directly to.
Sometimes the names are cryptic and you have to just try them out. And often times only a small subset of things is available and the one you want isn't on the list. The workaround for that is to find (likely by searching on the net) a direct intent to do it (in which case you would be using the Send Intent action)...
...or - use the plugin AutoInput to have Tasker auto-click it's way to the screen you want in that app.
Not sure if you've visited over to /r/Tasker but it's an excellent resource for Tasker :)
Yeah you can literally just create a folder and put all the files in it through Files or Amaze File explorer. Gallary will make it act like a new album.
Amaze https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amaze.filemanager&hl=en
My files is a standard file explorer that's already on your phone.
FYI: UPSM+ allows you to chose what programs are available while in ultra powersaving mode. Now that I have a web browser and stuff available, I actually find my self saving power and using it more often.
To get the 5.1.1 OTA you would need to re-flash the stock ROM and stock recovery. Updating to the stock ROM using any method (OTA or flash) would remove root, so you would need to re-root the phone after installation.
If you want to avoid that you could try finding a pre-rooted stock ROM to flash, or use a custom 5.1.1 ROM which will almost certainly include root, among other things.
You can back up your phone using a few different methods. Google backup does backup app data, but only for apps which allow it, so there is no guarantee and I don't recommend relying on it as your sole solution. You can use Kies by Samsung to backup almost everything, but it won't backup "protected" app data such as authenticators or bank apps.
Since you are rooted, I recommend using something like Titanium Backup to backup all of your stuff. If you are using a custom recovery, such as TWRP, you can also run whats called a nandroid backup of your phone to capture imgs of the rom, bootloader, modem etc. which you can re-flash at any point and pick up where you left off.
Game progress is usually tied to a linked account through either FB or Google Play Games, but in the case the game supports neither, Kies or Titanium Backup will most likely preserve the app data for you.
I'm using All in one gestures. It creates hotspots that you can assign various functions. I have swipe from bottom as home and swipe from right as back.
You could also try Pie Control. But that's more of a menu.
I downloaded an app called recently that works with root to limit the amount of apps showing up in your recents. Seems to help a little for me. I set mine to only show running apps instead of showing literally every app I've used since booting my phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.recently
While not perfect it works pretty good. I put my note 2 on a charger and in a cup. It just needs to connect to wifi and have the app installed. I also have it one the note 4 and that one works as a receiver. It notifies me on movement and allows some operations like switch cams, send audio and turn on flash and a 'nightvision' mode. This is the app I use.
Try going into the application manager and seeing what's running that could be taking up a lot of resources. Alternatively, checkout the app Watchdog (play store link here) which will tell you when an app is taking up a lot of the CPU, even if it's in the background. Maybe they can help you solve the problem.
Have you tried factory defaulting, then not installing any apps onto the device? If a fresh install, with nothing else is still bad, your device may be defective.
Also, if you're rooted, try Wake Lock Detector https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en
I had some battery issues, found a wakelock from an app was destroying my battery. Removed app, back to insane battery life.
Check out "Muzei - Reddit" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deeptrouble.muzei.picsfromreddit
There are a few different versions... I just grabbed the reddit one to share here. Updates automatically - great addition to my Note 4 and Pro 12.2.
Sure! http://i.imgur.com/4Sen3L0.png Wallpaper is from an app called Material Wallpapers, it has some good ones. Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaptim.wallpapers&hl=en
MW-Pen App Enabler The free version only allows pop up windows i believe, paid upgrade for multiwindow. Might not work for every app
looks like this works (just tried it)
Install All In One Toolbox,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.toolbox.full&hl=en
Go to plugins and install the ad detector plugin
It's not a slam dump as every other damned app has some form of ad framework installed, but you can go through app by app and see the type of ads they can disply
I have been very much enjoying https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handmark.expressweather&hl=en
I was annoyed by the stock widget/app opening a web page when I wanted to see the hourly forecast. This one stays in app. Also configurable to open my alarm clock app of choice when I tap on the time part of the widget.
For future reference, you can use CPU-Z from the Play Store to tell you what processor you have, as well as a lot more detailed information about it.
Maybe try Whiteboard Notes? You can't write right on the screen but your drawings do show up like sticky notes as widget (I haven't really tried it. Just downloaded it for a sec to test it out for you, didn't have time to fully use the 15 minutes refund time). Check it out and let us know if it's any good.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mattm.whiteboardpro
To take it one step further, you can use Popup Widget with swipe actions as well.
For instance, swipe up on Calendar app, show Calendar widget (no need to have a whole page just for a widget)
I use this in addition to APW Widgets so that when I swipe up on Phone, a widget of my favorite contacts set to direct-dial pops up.
Swipe up on Textra the same widget pops up but set to direct-sms.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
I use AcDisplay to do the same thing, you can set it to turn on the screen for any app.
linkme: AcDisplay
*Apparently the linkme bot doesn't work in this sub, but here's a link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
Here's a partial solution I use. Download the app Piktures from Google Play.

I've spent a lot of time in call centers over the years.
There is 100% no point in calling either party and bugging them about it. It's a decision that's many, many, many levels above the CSR on the floor's head, on both sides.
Samsung did what the script they read probably told them to do (and what was probably the truth) - and told you that it's been given to carriers. Samsung has nothing to do when you receive your update beyond providing a few base images to CDMA / TDMA / etc carriers - which it appears they have done a while ago. Beyond that, it's up to the carrier.
I'd call BS on T-mobile's page at this point, because even small carriers are rolling the update out now. They want you to swallow that one of the largest carriers in the world was put on the back burner?
T-mobile probably told you whatever they felt would get you off the phone. A lot of reps will do that - especially with customers that don't get that the rep can't give you lollipop, and for sure won't be told release dates ahead of when it actually happens. Neither will the supervisors.
In the end, the only thing you've accomplished was wasting your time. This was part of the reason I moved away from verizon - vote with your wallet, and all that. Surprising they got it in a reasonable amount of time TBH.
I got the Tech Armor one. It has a lot of negative reviews, but most are because the protector doesn't fit edge to edge, which seems by design since the glass on the phone is curved. I have very minimal halo effect on the left side and none on the right.
I'll repost from another discussion:
> I use a full screen protector so the halo is covered:
> I have this one from AliExpress and like it a lot: Full Screen Protector Tempered Glass For Samsung Galaxy Note 4
> Note: Just looked very closely and saw a halo of 1mm or less on the bottom left and top right corner from the screen/protector. So overall it does a great job of hiding the halo.
http://camelcamelcamel.com/PowerBear-Battery-Replacement-Charger-Warranty/product/B01H819T28
Yeah it seems to have gone up pretty recently. I'll hold out for as long as I can stand my stock batteries to see if the price drops lol.
I just ordered these ones:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E0NRESE/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_CPKrub14MS262
I wanted two keychains which this one has. It's got lots of reviews, almost all positive. It also works with a variety of phones including the note 3.
I'd say don't judge what you're drawing, don't compare to others, keep drawing and drawing, play with the different apps, brushes papers, keep enjoying what you're doing, your style will grow and your lines will be cleaner. Also follow artists on IG, Pinterest, pen up... Etc.. But don't copy them, just get inspired. When you'll decide you want to learn drawing more seriously start looking for classes. They help. But practice is key. As for comments/critics for your drawing you shouldn't ask for any, don't try to fix it, just move on to the next one :) feel free to share though :) Have fun!
Sure, I've rooted every Android phone I've had, it's even easier now than before.
I don't know if it resets the phone, I did it as soon as I got it, but I don't think it does. Backup your data just to be safe. I used this root method: http://samsungrumors.net/root-galaxy-note-4-just-one-click/
Xposed is pretty easy, I just installed the APK from here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
I don't use a ROM, just the stock ROM that was already installed. Yes, flashing ROMs are one of the easier ways to mess up your phone so not doing that avoids a lot of risk.
I would suggest watching a Youtube video all the way through (there's one on my first link above) before you do it on your actual phone, to make sure you FULLY understand every step.
Kingroot is the simplest way, just download the apk, install and press the root button, but it uses a lot of phone power for all of it's bells and whistles, aka bloatware.
Supersu is less taxing for your phone and the most used superuser app for Android. For Supersu, you'll want to use Odin to flash TWRP (instructions in page) on your phone, then go to Supersu website and download the recovery flashable zip file and use TWRP to install Supersu to root your phone.
Edit: Once you flash TWRP with Odin, do a complete backup in recovery mode before anything else, so to prevent losing any data or in the event of a bootloop you'll be able to restore your phone precisely the way it was at backup, system files and all. Welcome to the world of the rooted Android :)
Here is TWRP's offical website download it there but make sure you select your proper device to download the .tar file.
This is a simple step by step video. Hope it helps!
hey mate no worries.
Im a little confused by your comment for the recovery. So is my version the Qualcomm
edit - Just realised you were inferring its the qualcomm
>Make sure your phone doesn't replace the recovery right after flashing though... Pull the battery when it first starts. (BUT NOT WHEN ITS FLASHING)
Wow ok so how do i tell using Odin? This seems like something massive to not fuck up
So the Rom is essentially a version of android. Is there a particular version i should install? (i don't have a micro sd card atm)
30 minute delay is nothing. I was even expecting any help so i am so grateful for your time and expertise.
edit 2 *I downloaded the qualcomm one, and Odin cannot find the file as it is saved as a "disc image file" and not a .tar.md5
Have tried to open the file using daemon tools to extract but it doesn't even want to open it there - think's it is corrupted.
It's not really different from flashing another rom though.. But if you are total newb and haven't done anything to your note 4, i will explain the basic process here..
Root your note 4, just follow this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/root-note-4-sm-n910c-t2977948
Install custom recovery, i would recommend twrp, download it from here https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote4exynoslte.html and flash it using odin on your pc. What is odin? It is a tool for flashing rom for samsung devices.. Google odin 3.10 and how to use it.. For this case tick the ap / pda box and open the twrp file you just downloaded
Once done, reboot to recovery by pressing vol up + home button + power button from when the device is off. You will see the recovery, now go to wipe and select advanced wipe, check all the box except your micro sd card. Slide the slider. (warning, this will delete all your data! BACKUP!)
go back to home screen and select install, select the cm rom zip you just downloaded from teameos website and slide to install, wait, reboot, and tada.. You are done!
Also, here is a list of a whole bunch of sites with high res wallpapers
Can confirm that this one is genuine bought it 2 months ago, most of the batteries sold without the charger are fake even if the item is "fullfilled by amazon" stay away from them.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Spare Battery Charger with OEM Replacement Battery https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQG2XNC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awd_pqVhxb7HSF028
Here is the link to the Amazon page in the US
Mine does it on Lollipop too. But only when my battery is below 45%. Going to get Anker battery this week from Amazon.
I've always used HDWidgets to create switches, it's not free but super cheap and frequently goes on sale. I think its a dollar-ish.
Alternatively if you use a launcher like Nova you could create a shortcut to the activity which displays the toggle menu. Tasker will also let you trigger activities among other things.
SMS Backup & Restore is good for making backups of Text and MMS messages to multiple places including MicroSD card, Google Drive and email. It will also backup call logs.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Also saving settings to the Samsung Cloud should store your phone log and some settings while Google Backup is getting pretty good at saving and restoring some settings. You probably know that there's a setting in Google Photos to backup to the Cloud and you can also do the same with Microsoft OneDrive.
Often but not always a clean reset will speed up your phone and at a minimum clear out some of the accumulated bloat from months or years of use. It's unlikely to make a massive difference to speed though.
I'd suggest trying out Samsung Internet or Samsung Internet Beta, the latter is probably the best browser available for Android at the moment.
The problem with alternative ROMs is that they don't have access to some of Samsung proprietary drivers so the fingerprint sensor might not work properly, the camera will probably not be as good and the dynamic screen settings will also not be as good. Also there's often something that doesn't work.
After saying that I've tried out Resurrection Remix but only liked the version based on Nougat. Oreo and Pie based versions have incorporated too much of the security crap and notification rubbish (Pie is the worst) that Google has introduced. Resurrection Remix does allow loads of customisation options.
If you don't use the fingerprint sensor I'd recommend trying out Good Lock 24.0.16
Don't use a later version and turn off the fingerprint settings before installing. Good Lock isn't meant for the Note 4 but Version 16 works very well with it and has some nice Quick Settings customisations.
RIP.
This is likely a common and well documented thing for note4 owners. Look up the EMMC failure bug. Some note4s are more affected and others arent. But it is very common. Looks like you are experiencing the early stages. There are some supposed "fixes" but they are mostly just workarounds. It may alleviate the issues short term, but it's only a matter of time till your phone dies completely. There is no pattern in the errors I have seen.. no change seems to have any effect. I will list a few, in no particular order. Do your own research. Source: OG note4 owner, owned 5 of them, 3/5 have had the emmc error.
factory reset the phone. temporary
use Wake Lock - PowerManager (level 4). best bet for mitigating symptoms
Use the brickbug app to check if you have a bad chip. I get false negatives on known-bad phones so ymmv
dont let the phone battery get low or the phone die completely. makes the issue worse
there was a post here a few weeks ago about a celophane bag + freezer fix. this allowed me to boot a previously bricked phone. no change on the lagging tho.
another post about inserting a small piece of foam behind the emmc chip itself to press the contacts firmly onto the pcb. this seems fucky. Id rather hit it with a hot air gun, but i digress.
Any other fixes anyone else has found? Thoughts?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check Download this app on the phone and it will tell you if the phone has the emmc bug. If you do, I don't know if it will be worth it to you to have the motherboard replaced. Being a Verizon phone you won't have many options for a replacement as most unlocked phones that aren't specifically made for Verizon won't work on it. You could always go to Swappa and look for good condition used phones for a replacement, you'll probably pay as much for a decent used phone as you would to replace the motherboard anyway.
Ok i had the same problem a few weeks ago after the tmobile update. Basically the note 4 is now "obsolete" because of an update. Download and install Wake Lock, and turn on Partial Wake Lock, this will prevent it from bootlooping. It's this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en . If your battery ever drains completely, you will basically have a bricked phone (at least I did). I found a solution online from another person who said to put the phone in the freezer in a bag (remove the battery before doing this) for about 20 minutes, take it out, put the battery back in, charge the phone for a bit, and then turn it on and enable the wake lock app. It's a total disaster.
Maybe try a dpi changer to reset the resolution/dpi
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chornerman.easydpichanger
Whilst I've had the problem of the touch area not matching the screen it was only on the stock Camera and after tweaking the resolution and didn't appear to affect anything else.
If that doesn't work then maybe reload the stock ROM (available from Sammobile) through Odin and start again.
I'm currently using TWRP 3.2.1 downloaded through the TWRP App:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
You have the mmc_read fail error. Install Wake Lock and use Setting 4, PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
It won't fix the problem but it might give you a few more weeks or months before total failure. It's hardware fault that requires a new motherboard. If you're in the US then you should be able to get it fixed by Samsung for around $70.
I'm not sure whether a switch cleaner would help as the actual micro switch is behind a rubber 'spring' but a very tiny spray of it might help. I'd be careful though because I suspect the cleaner might get behind/into the screen.
As a sort of alternative the 'Screen Off & Lock Widget' lets you put an off button on the home page which will reduce wear and tear a bit.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.weedtime.screenoff&hl=en_GB
Download open camera app and that's the quality you will get. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera&hl=en
An issue with the camera in lineage is that you will sometimes get "camera cannot connect" message and you will have to reboot your phone to fix it.
OK, try OS Monitor which will give real time use of the various processes broken down into each one. Googling those that seem to be using a lot the process time might give a clue as to what's going on.
If it were me I'd be thinking about a reset.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor
It should be enabled by default, if not in the settings type LED and click the toggle box, that should enable it. It's above the top left of the screen and will flash when you have notifications, low battery etc.
Best thing to do would be to get this app and customize it per app because by default it's only like red, green and blue and apps are very distinguishable
Does GSam help you identify the App/process that's causing it to overheat?
If it's Media Manager then that's likely down to a corrupt file on the SD card.
Are you getting the mmc_read error during the boot process?
OS Monitor is also useful for tracking down rogue processes:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor
Have you actually been there when it is "overheating".. Any idea what gauge they are using to determine it is "overheating"
You can have them install this app and check the temps when they think it is "overheating"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en
other than that, without knowing more about their usage it could be anything.
Do they have some constricting case that is not allowing the phone to dissipate heat.
Are they playing a CPU/Video intensive game that is heating the phone up.
Are they leaving the screen on full brightness for extended periods of time.
Do they have some high process apps/system app that is running CPU at full 100% of the time?
Accubattery will estimate current battery capacity after some charge cycles. Can't say how accurate it is but it seems to hit expected numbers on various devices I've tried it on. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery
RootDim is an app that overrides the brightness, I have a 10,000 mAh battery and use RootDim all the time.
[Edit] here's the play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim&hl=en
In that case you might want to use this, although if I were you I would buy a OnePlus 3, Pixel, or Moto Z. The rating is bad, but that's mostly due to Android fanboys giving it bad reviews for being an Apple product.
I had the same issue restoring it helped it(expect my first 2 try when i choose to reinstall all the apps and restore their data, my only wifi related app was wifi analyzer pro but not sure )
