If you're on Android, do check out Metal for Facebook. It's a very decent Facebook replacement app that provides a more privacy-secure FB experience and re-integrates some of those off-loaded features, like Messenger.
It also happens to have Twitter support, if you're a Twitter user.
Do not use the Facebook app. I repeat, do not use the Facebook app. Ever. That thing is a Trojan horse. If on Android, use something like Metal which needs almost no permissions as it is a wrapper for the browser version of Facebook.
I highly recommend trying out Metal. It's a facebook and twitter client very similar to Tinfoil but loads better. It even does notifications.

The last commit on Github was in March 2017, and none of Velazcod's other projects have been updated recently.
Iirc he started working for Google around late 2016, he might be concentrating on that.
I think Metal For Facebook is based on Tinfoil, if you're looking for a replacement.
Have you tried Metal?
It replaces the facebook and messenger apps. I installed it a few weeks ago and my s6 battery lasts all day, up from 2 charges to get through the day.
*Edit I just saw your comment further down that you are indeed trying it out. It takes a little getting used to, but is an acceptable substitute for the official app.
I moved from Tinfoil to Metal after some recent issues. You may want to take a look into it. I believe there were some... uh... issues with Tinfoil, though it's been a while.
I had a big purge of Facebook "friends" yonks ago due to this ... then came to my senses and stopped logging onto it at all.
And bloody hell and Android phone is quicker with all the facebook nonsense removed/disabled. Just install Metal if you still need access.
Metal unfortunately does not replace facebook - instead it allows for you to chat with people / view your feed on facebook without the constant 'install messenger' nag screen. I have not yet found a way to replace chat. It's not as tightly integrated as the facebook / messanger apps, but it gets the job done.

Try deleting facebook and facebook messenger and use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
instead.
I did this yesterday, and I am getting about 2 hours more SOT.
Good thing i switched to metal. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
Only Drawback is that since the messages are within app, video calls and voice calls don't work.
It will take some time to go through all the apps to turn off background data and notifications but its worth it. Facebook and Facebook messenger is known to drain tons of battery due to poor optimization so use a facebook wrapper.
Obviously these are changes you can make without rooting your phone. I get around 4-5 hours of SOT but ymmv.
Had the same problem with that app. Found an alternative called Metal. Awesome app and doesn't even lag when in the messaging section. (was like a 5fps deal in swipe.) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I try to avoid checking Facebook but I do have Metal installed in case I do get any notifications/photos uploaded. It's the mobile page wrapped in an APK but the messaging still works.
It also gets rid of the annoying "Find more friends on Facebook notification" I would get almost daily.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
You probably don't need a new battery. My battery is still going strong for well over a year now. I've had odd battery drain issues from time to time. Check your battery usage stats first to see what the culprit is. There are a few things you can try:
1) Delete Facebook and Messenger apps. Not only will your battery life get better, your phone will be snappier. I thought it was a joke until I tried it. If these are essential apps for you, install Metal https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
2) Try clearing your app cache. You can do this by following the instructions here: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-clear-the-cache-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-4
3) Try a new USB cable and/or charger. I had a usb cable go bad on me and appeared to be charging to full, but the battery would drain like crazy. Definitely use a legit samsung branded charger and usb cable.
4) If you're rooted, you can try re-calibrating your battery with any battery calibration app.
If none of these options work, then I would consider trying a new battery, but I highly doubt that is the issue.
Do yourself a favor and uninstall the Facebook app and download Metal. Waaaay easier on battery, pretty customizable, and no intrusive facebook data mining like with the app. There's also a paid pro version that's ad free, has an updated theme, and a couple other features, its like $1.99 or something like that, totally worth it.
Here's the link. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I just installed the app. I can't zoom in on posted photos. Also, I can't get the upload photos to metal option to work (such as trying to share from m Google photos app)
i would highly recommend metal for using facebook. a wrapper, saves tons of battery life, doesn't have all the creep shit in their regular app.
Just don't even use their app. I personally use metal. It's lighter than the Facebook app. Well technically a wrapper, but still better than the app. Plus I can browse with a black theme.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I've enjoyed my experience with Metal. The push notifications are garbage but it's otherwise a pretty good facebook app that doesn't drain the battery.
i'm not sure about iOS, but if you're on android, Metal for Facebook is great. It's essentially a wrapper for the mobile site, but you can have notifications and most importantly, messages, without installing facebooks own apps. It also takes up the minimal amount of space and lets you do the same sort of thing for twitter too. I always wonder why it's not more popular....
Are you talking about Metal for Facebook & Twitter and Tinfoil for Facebook? Folio just changed its name but includes "facebook" in its description multiple times.
Explain to me how "Swipe for Facebook" differs from "Metal for Facebook" and "Tinfoil for Facebook".

I actually disabled facebook myself, and am using Metal Pro instead. Works better for me and has all the functionality of the app.
Some people also have claimed that it is dramatically better for battery consumption than the native app.
free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
paid version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper.pro
Give Metal a go. It's basically just a web wrapper for the Facebook mobile site, but it makes it easier to use and lets you use have site hover over whatever else you're doing if you just want to check something quickly.
Since installing it and deleting Facebook's own app my S5 has been a lot faster + the battery lasts longer.
But where exactly IS the line? It's a bit grey - a passthrough app is still a hybrid application. A passthrough that provides a modified interface for the user via custom CSS is still basically the same thing as this MS thing, but some work has gone into it, providing a custom interface. If a user wanted that enough to pay for it...?
(Here's a example of such an app on Android - I've never needed a custom interface on iOS, but this one is pretty well known and very good.
Edit: I just remembered one I use on OS X - http://radiant-player.github.io/radiant-player-mac/ - But it IS free. Maybe that is the line.
I use Metal, which is an app for facebook and twitter. I dont use twitter, but the Facebook portion is exceptional. Miles ahead of the official app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Try Metal. If you like tinfoil then you'll enjoy Metal probably a fair bit more.
It's basically tinfoil but it has more options aside from being a simple web wrapper such as (limited) theming, multitasking (creates a popup window that allows you to use Facebook without leaving your current task) and it also works for twitter.
The only negative I can find is that the AMOLED pure black them makes some of the fb settings impossible to see, though you can simply change the theme to white to see them again.
Occasionally I have to fc the app because it'll crash, but I'm pretty sure that's my fault (lots of tweaks to my phone) and not the app.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post it but here's the Playstore link.
Depends on the model of your phone. I'm on L09 running B405 and downloaded the latest Google Play Framework from APK Mirror and installed Facebook to test your claim running on both the Beta Facebook version and the normal release.
So far Beta is more unstable and does crash but the normal did not. Make sure you aren't in the Facebook app Beta program and do yourself a favour. Use Metal Pro or Phoenix, both are really good (low memory usage) facebook web wrappers apps that are worth the money and the battery you'll save.
There are numerous reasons why it sucks so much battery, but one thing everyone seems to agree on is that it does indeed eat batteries.
So much so that there's actually a dedicated app that will help with the battery drain issue
Is Tinfoil still actively developed? Didn't look like it a while ago, after I couldn't use chat for ages I switched to Metal for Facebook.
You can use another app... I use metal, which is a wrapper for their mobile site, with some trick to enable messenger. Messenger is technically still there on their mobile site, they just don't want you to use it, they want you to use their app instead, so they redirect you to use their app if they detect you're on mobile web. I refuse to use any of their apps, but I like having mobile messenger access. Metal (or other such apps, there's a few others out there) works for me.
It's not perfect by any means, but it gets the job done.
they've been doing this garbage for a while now. There's another app called Metal that actually works for FB and Twitter but doesn't use all your phone battery like the official FB app, and messages still work.
Or use Metal. It's a wrapper to their mobile website and works great. It provides notifications and uses much less resources. Ad free to.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
/u/JoshTay suggested Metal in this comment. I'll try it out and report back. So far it looks like a wrapper for the mobile site, but it does have the share option. Does Twitter too.
Amazon underground <--- Not really an "alternative", because it's made by Amazon, but you can find tons of free apps here, it's worth it.
Give this app a try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
For Facebook and Twitter with notifications and added bonus of ability to search groups very battery friendly also
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
It's basically just a wrapper for the website but it does do notifications through the RSS feed once you set it up properly. It's like and upgraded tinfoil for facebook with material design.
I use metal which feeds me zero reminders or notifications...when I want to see what my friends are up to, I open it on occasion.
Also I forget everyone's birthdays.
It can't be completely halted. Parts of it run all the time and the parts that do, are cleverly cloaked as "System" processes. It also communicates with other apps on your phone that fb either owns or has agreements with the other company.
Uninstall it to solve the problem. And if you must use that evil thing, install Metal app, although some features will be limited. Metal accesses fb through the web browser interface.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
That's what standards and interopability are for. Shared networks across for-profit companies have fallen out of favor because walled gardens are more profitable. Facebook in particular has gone out of its way to prevent people from using 3rd party clients and other services.
If breaking up FB into 6 smaller companies forced those companies to agree on an open social media standard where we could all grab a nice client from GitHub instead of Facebook's awful phone-invading spyware mobile that would be great! (shout out to Metal which is a fairly decent non-FB FB client that FB hasn't killed yet).
TL;DR If you break up monopolistic social media companies, any company that wants to survive will have to play nice across a broader competitive ecosystem. Very similar to what we saw with the Bell breakup only without the regional lock in.
(as I noted elsewhere too) Metal for Facebook - basically it's a wrapped browser so no spying. And since it's web-based, can do messages.
(As I noted above) Metal for Facebook - basically it's a wrapped browser so no spying. And since it's web-based, can do messages.
Honestly, I have been super happy with Metal.
As others have said, delete the facebook and messenger apps. They're bad news.
Once they do that you'll get the reskinned mobile apps - like Metal (currently for facebook and twitter). It uses the mobile site, but somewhat reskinned and blocks some of the garbage that the apps force onto your phone.
Posso sugerir, no lugar do FB satânico, utilizar o Metal.
Não chega nem perto da usabilidade do App oficial, mas também não fica rastreando a minha vida.
Metal for facebook and never look back. 4reals. Can do anything the normal facecrack wants you to but you don't compromise your location, your contacts ect. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en_GB
Use AdHell to disable all the apps within the Facebook package. You can replace Facebook with Metal. I improved my battery drain by 4% per hour just be disabling all the Facebook garbage.
If you still happen to use Facebook and are on android devices: Metal is a fantastic app that replaces the battery draining, privacy invading regular Facebook app. Best thing about it... It works for twitter too. 2 in 1
or you could install Metal for Facebook (android), which is much easier on your battery. You can even use the messenger, but you can't upload pictures/videos AFAIK. I highly recommend this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
No idea if this link works but I use Metal Facebook for Android. I paid for the Pro version. I used to use Tinfoil for Facebook but chat has been broken in that app for a while.

And if you must/want to use it on a mobile device, use an alternative client like Metal which requires almost no permissions. Takes up much less room, uses less battery and does not snoop on everything.
I've been using Metal as a stand in because messenger was too resource hoggy a year ago. Its been great so far, just hope FB doesn't yank its API with this development....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
If you want FB and better battery life i suggest switching it out with Metal, its just as good and much lighter, though its only for Android atm, im sure there are something similar for Ios.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=no
If you don't need Android get a Microsoft Lumia 640 XL.
If you want Android and don't need a good camera just get a Motorola Moto G.
If you want Android and a good camera the already mentioned OnePlus 3T is a good one, but you can also spend a bit less if you can find a Motorola Nexus 6 (NOT the Huawei Nexus 6P), LG Nexus 5X, or Motorola X Pure / Style. In this order if the price is similar, otherwise I suggest the cheapest.
Since the first two can be found for ~100$ total (less online) you might want to buy an Unlocked version at once and buy a SIM with a separate monthly mobile plan of your choice with your favorite carrier.
If you go for an Android phone not installing one of the official Facebook apps will double your battery life. You can use something like this instead.
I just installed Metal lately. It's pretty much the web version of FB but with themes and you can message the old way. I rarely check FB so it does everything I need but a heavy user might notice it's lacking in some areas...
Also a separate part of the app connects with Twitter.
Well, i use the web version, so i can close that window whenever i want haha, plus you can enable notifications so it's good
Still, if you want an app, i've read good things about Metal for Facebook, haven't tried it, but looks promising
I went out for a hike yesterday to take pictures. I checked my phone, I had more than enough battery so I went walking. After about 2 miles my phone lets out its death beep notifying me that the battery was almost dead, it was at 10%, and Facebook Messenger was responsible for the largest chunk. I had streamed an hour of video through Firefox earlier and that usage was significantly less than an app I had not even opened in over a week! I put the phone in low power mode and headed home. Once charged, I deleted Messenger. Metal for Facebook can still do messages so I will try that for a while. At this point I have to assume that the shitty nature of that app is intentional, Facebook has the money to attract top notch talent and yet despite multiple years of complaints they still have done nothing to fix the drain.
Thanks, will definitely download.
Separately, for Android users I would highly recommend downloading "Metal for Facebook & Twitter". It's a wrapper for the web version of Facebook (and Twitter). The developer did a fantastic job making it very lightweight, minimal permission needed and a very user friendly (with notifications) version of Facebook for mobile users as an alternative to the actual FB app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I downloaded and paid for the pro version months ago, regret nothing. It actually made me enjoy using Facebook again on my mobile device.
Edit: I'm not sure, but you may need to be added to the beta group to download? Here: https://plus.google.com/communities/111788662490973067803
an easy trick is to make your application mostly cloud based, then create an app that is really a browser wrapper around your cloud service. To make your app multiplatform you need only utilize a different browser wrapper to render what is essentially a pre-loaded web page for the new platform.
An example of this method is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Another example of this method used for gaming is:
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/na/site/2016-season-update/client-update.html (they are going to a multiplatform code base, using "Chromium" as a browser wrapper for the client)
An android web wrapper: Metal
On my Z10 it has a super annoying issue where on the first load, it won't get past the splash screen. Hitting Refresh inside the app fixes it..
If you're on Android give this a shot: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en . None of the spying and a boost in battery life since the FB app isn't constantly draining it.
An alternative to the official facebook app:
20MB install size https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en_GB
edit: clarification that this isn't the main facebook app :/
I just recently switched from Facebook to Metal on my Galaxy s6, I haven't noticed too much of a difference in battery life but I'm not a huge Facebook user.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Honestly doing this improved my battery life considerably and general performance of the phone to the point where it no longer takes 5 seconds to open an app or read my text messages. The annoying thing is, that for some reason, whenever I reboot my phone Facebook and Messenger are magically installed again... anyway, I'm using Metal for Facebook, a lightweight alternative to the official Facebook and Messenger apps.
Try using the Metal app on Android, let's you use the mobile version of Facebook and Twitter while still giving you notifications. It also has a floating preview feature but that didn't work very well for me.
There's an app called Metal for Facebook & Twitter that works much better. It's just a wrap for the browser version of Facebook, without the invasion into your device obviously.
I totally recommend Metal for Facebook, it's alot more private and less resource intensive than Facebook. It's honestly the best Facebook app I've used on any of the mobile platforms in terms of compromise between the design of the official app and the less demanding use of the website on a browser: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I personally use Metal for Facebook because it's not as invasive as the Facebook app. It doesn't ask for location or anything, and it's basically just a shell for the mobile site, with included notifications.
Joke's on them, I've been using Metal for Facebook
Vote it to the top, people, spread the word.
Better battery life, better performance, what's not to like?
You're half right. I agreed with you months ago but then Metal came out based on Daniel's Tinfoil - quite better in general terms. Again, based on it and - same features of sand boxing but there's also beta message notification support and material design. I like the improved functionality. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Just install a wrapper app like Metal. There's been loads of updates since the last time Metal was posted so you might want to check it out again.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Facebook's official app is horrible. Chrome with notifications is pretty good
any idea on how this is different from Metal for Facebook? I just downloaded them both and they literally look like carbon copies of each other...I'm probably missing something....
I ditch VZW messages and disabled for something else and switch Facebook to metal for a day or two and see how that works. And turn on stamina mode if you don't have it on already
Recently started using Metal app for both facebook and twitter. It's just a wrapper for their respective mobile sites, but works good enough.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I would now suggest Metal as a Facebook/Twitter alternative. It's a very nice, light weight app. Check it out. Linkme: Metal for Facebook & Twitter. Edit: guess this bot isn't in this subreddit? Here's the Play Store link to Metal then. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
try Metal.
it supports notifications with a little trickery. been using it for a while with no real issues....but I check facebook like 2 times a week so I'm probably not the best person to ask if this app is really good or not...lol
Honestly? Not much. I was already getting pretty awesome battery life on M Preview 3. Once Marshmallow released on Monday I just did a clean flash using NRT. The one thing I will say is that I don't have the official Facebook app installed. Instead I use a nifty app called Metal for Facebook & Twitter.
LINK: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I created something which has doubled my standby time and I can get slightly more SOT. Using tasker and greenify. I have switched off sync and have a profile to switch it on every 2 hours for about 3mins, then switch it off, wait 10seconds and greenify my selected apps. I also have another task that activates once my display is off - wait 3mins and then greenify all apps. Greenify will hibernate all apps that you have selected. Another thing was removing the official Facebook app. Even though I hardly use it and it was greenified all the time, I would find it having about 90 wakelocks in about a 4 hour period. I now use Metal - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper which is great. It uses the RSS feed of your facebook for notifications. Hope this helps. Using a LG G3 on stock lollipop with root. Average usage on battery before these changes was 16-20h usage and about 3h SOT. Now I get 32-38h usage and 3h40min SOT.
I haven't tried any ROM other than stock 5.0 and rooted. I have done some researching and have come up with a mix of settings that works for me. I got 36hours total use and 3hours 24mins SOT today. WiFi on permanently, mobile data on when WiFi disconnected but I am running on 2G since Im connected to WiFi 90% of the time. I removed the Facebook app and installed Metal https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en due to Facebook waking my device up far too many times since I don't use it every day. I also use tasker to switch sync on for 3mins every 2 hours and then greenify most apps after the sync is complete. That's pretty much it. Longest SOT I ever got was 4H20 with about 16hours worth of usage. That was before this new set up though but I'm sure it will probably my average around the same
Metal or Tinfoil are good replacement apps for the main app- Metal is based on Tinfoil, but they're basically just contained browser windows, so no ludicrous shady background stuff. Metal can incorporate Twitter too if you're so inclined, and you can schedule notification checks according to your preference.
Disa is pretty good for the Messenger app, I'm still trying to get push figured out but I have Greenify working so it might just be a hibernation issue. It worked fine before I did Greenify.
While I've got some visibility, Redreader Beta is a pretty killer open-source Reddit app for Android that lets you customize a ton of appearance and behavioral aspects of the app.
I have been using Metal for Facebook. Light weight, lets you use messenger, it's basically m.facebook in a decent wrapper.
I use metal for Facebook
You might like Metal for Facebook.
Its a wrapper for the mobile website that looks a lot better than Tinfoil.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Just a heads up:
Tinfoil seems abandoned by the Dev. Messaging in the app no longer works.
I swapped to Metal for Facebook
Link for those on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
As others have said, the Facebook app drains battery like crazy. Switch to Metal.
Highly recommend Metal an easy way around the crisp that goes with the official app.
On Android, try an FB 'web wrapper.' These apps basically do everything the official app does, and offer several improvements in functionality and looks, but they don't run operations in the background, which drains your battery and eats up your mobile data. FB has blocked the Messenger function on many of these apps, but I've found Metal for Facebook still maintains that feature.
Other decent FB alternatives are Tinfoil, Folio, and Swipe for Facebook, but they seem to have lost the Messenger function.
Just uninstalled FB & Messenger.
Using Metal now instead.
Highly recommend Metal an easy way around the crisp that goes with the official app.
I use Metal for Facebook/Twitter because its 1 app and does everything i need it to very well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I'm currently using Metal, and what I can tell its low impact on my Battery. Here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
You can either use their website directly and place a shortcut on your homescreen through Chrome, or install some web wrapper like Metal, Tinfoil, or Folio. Or if you want a lighter native app, you can install Facebook Lite if it's available in your country. It's insanely laggy and ugly though.
Get rid of the app, it's terrible. Use Metal for Facebook instead.
I recommend Metal for Facebook.

EDIT: I'd also recommend replacing the default Facebook app with an alternative, such as Metal. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
I recently downloaded Metal to use with Facebook, I haven't used it for Twitter though
Also use Metal for Facebook and Twitter
Metal works for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Use a different Facebook app. The official one is garbage...
I use Metal
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I discovered Metal recently as a replacement of Facebook app. My battery life is so much better! Here is it's link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I use Metal
Try Metal or Metal Pro as non battery heavy FB replacements.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I happen to like Metal
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Did the same thing but instead of using Chrome i use Metal for Facebook
Any reservations against Metal for Facebook? I've used Tinfoil for a while, but switched because Metal has a dark theme.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Metal is the most metal of the FB apps. Add Messenger Lite and you're not missing out on much.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
Metal is good too
I've been using Metal for Facebook and Twitter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Check out metal on android for a nice web skin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
RAM usage isn't what you should be looking at. RAM usage (except in cases of underspeccing) hasn't been a performance metric for years.
Clear the cache on your larger applications. Uninstall the Facebook app (it is trash through and through, I hear Metal and Swipe are good replacements), and clear the cache partition. I did these things and uninstalled any superheavy apps and it helped quite a bit. Notably I also turned on Snapchat's Travel Mode which helped a lot with its background CPU usage.
You shouldn't HAVE to do these things, but when I did them, they helped a lot.
Ich finde Metal ganz gut
For Facebook then certainly metal for facebook: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I know it supports fb notifications, not sure about messenger
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
Ooo.... I had only heard of Tinfoil. This looks nice
I use Metal for Facebook and Twitter: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en_US - also just a wrapper around the mobile page.
If you must have a facebook app installed use metal, requires android JB or higher
You can also use metal Google play link
Metal? It's a Lightweight wrapper for Facebook.
Metal is good if you're on Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
You could try Metal for Facebook & Twitter
Facebook doesn't run great on this phone. Try alternative apps like Metal.
Sorry, should have posted a link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Use Metal instead of the official app. It's so much better in every way.
Good that you got it working!
I just use Metal.
I use Metal for Facebook - happy so far.
Check out Metal for Facebook, it's basically a wrapper for Facebook's mobile website with push notifications that you can activate.
I've been using Metal for Facebook on my phone and it's worked great so far.
You could give Metal a try. It's an alternative to Tinfoil and Folio. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
Metal has a dark theme and is much smaller and lighter than the standard FB app.
Try Metal?
Try Metal. It has better design https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I prefer Metal. It's based on Tinfoil, but also has Twitter.
I use metal, great app for both Twitter and Facebook. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
I've been happy with Metal.
At the very minimum if you need/want to keep facebook around for some reason:
Remove from any devices you have: Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp.
Make sure you check for those apps on any Windows 10 PCs you have as well.
If you need Facebook on your phone use Metal for Facebook as it allows no access to anything important and keeps Facebook isolated, you can still use messenger in it as well.
If you're not already using it switch over to Firefox (you can import your bookmarks, but do not import cookies)
Go to Options > Privacy; Check off Trackers
and set it to always, check off Third Party Cookies
and set it to all 3rd party. You will see more reCAPTCHA's with this but that's just Google being shitty and something you have to deal with.
Download the uBlock Origin addon, default settings are fine.
Down the Facebook Container addon, this creates a new container inside Firefox that facebook and associated services automatically open in, making sure that any tracking remains isolated from the rest of your web browsing activities.
Metal for Facebook - basically it's a wrapped browser so no spying. And since it's web-based, can do messages.
I use Metal for Facebook

and SImple Pro.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.creativetrends.simple.app
Those are for android and work great.
Weird, viewing it in Spanish it says it is only for Facebook:

I use Ublock in conjunction with Privacy Badger. I also have modified my hosts file to block other malicious websites.
The script I mentioned earlier is a little sluggish in regards to efficency and speed, so I actually discovered a superior alternative. Because I don't use chrome as my default browser, I downloaded a portable version, installed an extention called Social Book Post Manager and configured it up to delete everything. At the moment, it's exclusive to chrome.
I'll include a link to a great article I found last night which includes other methods of managing or removing your information momentarily.
Edit: Highly recommended reading. Here!
If you or anyone still need to access Facebook on android, I would also recommend using Metal instead.
Also ensure to disable third-party cookies on your Internet browser of choice and install a cookie management extension that will automatically delete any cookies you're not using within a set time-frame.
Yes "Metal for facebook & twitter"

Another vote for Metal.
Is =Facebook installed, that will eat your battery. If you do maybe try something like Metal (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper)
You'll want to use something like this

Works for me using Metal.
If you have to use Facebook. use Metal: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
For anyone who wants to leave the official app Metal is a great alternative.
Install metal. It saves 20% battery and frees you from that annoying facebook app.

Which is why I use Metal. That and the battery life...
Regarding "the only way to use it" I switched to Metal and haven't looked back!

I recommend Metal for Android, a wrapper for the web version.
Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and many others are real battery hogs. Drop them.
Facebook has a very good mobile site and if you open it in Chrome you can have it send notifications through Chrome. There are also wrappers like Metal that work just as well or better then the official app.
Drop Yahoo! Weather as well.
There have also been issues with new installs and phones being hit by a bug in Google Play which consumes battery. Basically, go into your app settings and clear the Google Play Store cache and restart your phone.
If you pay attention to your power usage and use Doze whenever you can, you can get amazing life out of your phone.
Edit: That first pick was me leaving my phone on Doze while I slept, it's about 6+ hours of time.
Here's a pic of my phone off charge and being used to play podcasts for about 2 hours, 10 min of Pokemon GO, and a bit of mail checking. The rest of the time it sits on my desk in Doze. I generally end the day between 25% (15 hours, heavy usage with 5-6 hours screen on) and 65% (light usage).
Metal is pretty good. It supports Twitter as well.
Use Metal
Metal: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper
It's a lot less comfortable than using the messenger app but it works.
They don't! well its more of a 3rd party app (metal), has both twitter and facebook.
Plugging Metal for Facebook ;)
that's why I use Metal instead of the FB app, aside from the official app draining my battery fast.
Hence why I use Metal. The Facebook app along with Messenger murdered my battery.
Metal really lightweight for Twitter and Facebook
check out Metal. It's a web rapper for facebook and twitter. It still uses the site, but it also sends notifications.
It is true. They frequently make connections without necessarily showing up in the battery stats. I recommend installing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper instead.
This can replace the FB and Twitter apps.
try metal, its a lightweight client for the website which also supports notifications
I'm using and loving Metal, lightweight app. Dual Facebook/Twitter app
Me too, I've been using Metal for Facebook
Much, much better.
Metal does both twitter and Facebook.
Have you tried Metal for Facebook yet? It's much prettier and still being updated, unlike Tinfoil
link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en Go to fb on your browser to get your RSS link first and then paste it in the settings for notifications.
link? I can't seem to find this anywhere
edit: found it after searching it on google+ lol

Metal For Facebook and Twitter
This seems to be trending these days.
I had the same issue from using the Facebook app myself. I found this other app that uses the chrome version of FB but does it inside of an app and doesn't drain the battery like the orignal does. You can also link you Twitter account to it as well. Could always give it a shot if your a FB user. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nam.fbwrapper&hl=en
