Why are you linking to one of those shady sites? The developer has a thread on XDA and it's on Google Play
You can try my free app called Key Plus that will allow you to remap Volume button to toggle flashlight or launch any app. Works on both KitKat and Lollipop and root is not required either.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp
This app will let you assign actions to holding down either volume button... Holding volume down will already open your camera but I like to set volume up to toggle the flashlight... I think volume up by default takes you to quickmemo which isn't very useful
> How is the way the phone handles WiFi notifications Verizon's fault?
Because it's a known Verizon bug. It's related to Verizon bloat.
> I run Nova launcher. Reaching to the status bar in order to double tap it by chance is much worse than just pressing with my finger where it already was resting.
I'm running Nova as well and have double tap to close.
Just install Screen Off and Lock and set the double tap gesture in Nova to it.
Install SoundAbout. In the app, go to Connectable Devices/Wired Headset Settings/Wired Headset Microphone and disable it. Then the phone will never assume the headphones have a microphone and won't try to start voice search.
What's happening is that the jack in the G3 has really tight tolerances and this causes some headphone plugs not to line up properly in the jack, shorting the contact that is used for the button on headsets with microphones.
Also make sure there isn't any lint in the jack, because even a small amount of lint in the bottom of the jack can be enough to cause the wrong contacts to touch.
Yes. If you have Nova Prime (the paid version). You can get an app called Screen Off and Lock, then set it to be triggered by double-tap in the Nova gestures list. Works just like the stock launcher - tap any blank spot on the home screen(s) and off it goes.
Edit: added link
You can download this app, in Nova Launcher set the double tap gesture to launch it. It will turn the display off and lock the phone just like on LG's launcher.
Nova is the only launcher I've used but obviously this would work in any launcher with assignable gestures.
If you're on kk and have xposed there is a module called "immersive mode don't panic" and you can disable the annoyance of these messages :)
I like how the two alternative phones you list are polar opposites in terms of price-range.
>I'm starting to think that I got a broken product.
So you bought the phone in February, this was 7 months ago. You should have discovered more quickly whether or not the device was botched.
>I use my phone to work and this phone just isn't reliable. From 11am to 14pm I'm down to 15%
If you were using your phone continuously (Screen ON with high brightness ON), then these stats aren't unheard of. It seems like people average 3-4h SOT with the LG G3. If you hardly used the phone and the screen was off for nearly the entirety of the 3 hours then I would start looking at whether you have any abusive apps. If apps aren't the problem, then another area to be looked at is battery health. Take GSam for a spin to maybe determine if this is the source of your poor battery life (and consider getting a fresh battery).
>Issues: - freeze on chrome - freeze on Maps - freeze out if nowhere - painfuly hot
I can't say I've dealt with freezing on my LG G3. The only instances where I experience freezing\lag is when activating the Dual Window pane.
As for heat issues. This phone seems to get as hot as my old Galaxy S3 or my girlfriend's Moto X. Not sure what to tell you on fixing that :\
If you can afford to buy a new phone - I say do it. The new iPhone 6S looks very nice. Everybody's hoping it at least has 2GB of RAM this time around though. Storage upgrades are pricey, but again -- if you can afford it then definitely do it. The new Nexuses\Nexii look promising and I doubt you'll get a laggy experience on the Nexus.
Don't use task killers. They are unnecessary and Android can handle processes by itself unlike Windows. Seriously, they actually inhibit your phone's operation.
http://www.howtogeek.com/127388/htg-explains-why-you-shouldnt-use-a-task-killer-on-android/
Well that's good. I don't think a G3 sits well in the stomach, nor would it be any more fun once it has to come out. You can double check with CPU-Z to confirm that the specs are correct
Use Messenger by Google as your default SMS app instead of the LG one. After installing it, open a conversation, go to the menu (three dots on top-right) -> People & options -> Sound and you can set a custom sound here.
If you want to get a new phone (as opposed to something used or refurbished), the Moto G5 Plus is coming out in 2 days. You can pick up the 32GB version for $230, or even cheaper if you have Amazon prime and are ok with lockscreen ads.
>Come on, OP. Don't wait for us to ao ask for the source.
I've downloaded the picture from an app called WallpapersQHD
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.catple.wallpapers
http://imgur.com/a/rZkkP The first one is my current home screen background and the last one my current lock screen background
If you have root, you can use the Emoji Switcher app to change your emoji system-wide to a few different types of emoji: Google, iOS, LG, Samsung, Twitter or Emoji One.
Most G3 specific answers were already said, so here's a general Android app you can find in the Play Store: Tasker.
It allows the user to create unlimited tasks to perform when a certain action is taken. For example, when I connect to my home network, I set it to turn on Bluetooth, turn up volume, and more. Then, when I exit the network it reverses it.
There are plenty more options than just that, as that is very simple.
Another example of what I use Tasker for most is screen rotation lock. If I go to YouTube, camera, or Netflix, it turns on screen rotation. When I leave those apps, it reverses.
Check it out, it's definitely worth the money.
Download GBA Emulator here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fastemulator.gbafree
Find GBA games:http://www.loveroms.com/roms/gameboy-advance
Just install emulator, download games, unzip them and locate them in app. Simple :)
Install Textdroider DPI and set DPI to 540. This in effect scales everything down a bit, so you can fit more text message history on your screen, for example.
I was skeptical when I first heard of doing this, but it's my first recommendation now to anyone with a rooted G3.
Home screen contest entry.
I am using the Whicoins Icon pack and Nova Launcher prime.
Sorry. I'm on mobile and don't know the formatting by heart.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whicons.iconpack
There is a much easier way to do this. Install DTSO: Double Tap Screen Off from Play store. This gives you an invisible resizeable widget that you can place on any home screen that will turn your phone off with a custom number of clicks.
Yeah sure! At first you'll need a custom recovery, which is able to update your system (https://twrp.me/devices/lgg3europe.html) and to wipe data. For Fulmics, just download the .zip and then turn to your phone. After properly installing the recovery, you need to boot it (turn off your phone, hold both power and volume down buttons until the lg logo appears, release the volume button only ... follow the prompts by clicking yes 2 times) and "wipe" all data. Make a backup before doing this (titanium backup, android, just google it ;) ) Then, after wiping copy the fulmics rom onto your phone and select "install" ... locate your files and swipe to flash ... a prompt will be opened, just follow the installation process! Any questions? ---> write me ;)
I always recommend Media Utilities. Works with most major music players (including spotify), highly customizable. It's a work in progress, so it may be glitchy, but when it works, it works well!
edit: link
If you've got G3 Tweaksbox installed, it offers a few options for lockscreens, nothing too game-changing, though. It only works on stock-based roms, which you obviously have if you're using knock code. I used the option that removed the brackets from knock-code input so it just looks blank, which makes people have even less of an idea of what's going on, and shows off your wallpaper more a lot clearly; which in my opinion looks so much nicer than stock.
There's a few other options that I can't exactly remember, but there wasn't too many options to make it look prettier besides that, sadly the ugly 'emergency call' and camera slider elements weren't modifiable when I used it.
If you're on KitKat still, you can get G3 TweaksBox on the Play Store, here
And if you're on Lollipop, you need to use the beta version, found here
If you have any questions about it, I might be able to answer them
No clue, sorry, but that seems super sketchy. Maybe look through your apps for anything you don't recognize? I'd try restarting, and if it continues, maybe try installing something like GSam Battery Monitor to see if you can identify it
While the screen is off, press and hold volume buttons to launch certain apps. With my free app Key Plus, you can choose the apps. You can even toggle flashlight.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp&hl=en
It isn't a google app, but instead uses Google's DNS servers rather than the DNS server addresses given to your device by your WiFi router / ISP.
You could try my free app Key Plus for LG, which will let you use the volume buttons (while screen if off) to launch apps or toggle flashlight
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp&hl=en
This was happening to me driving me nuts!!! I tried disabling VoiceMate, and a lot of other crap. The only thing that has worked is installing Headset Button Controller and setting everything to "disabled"
This is fine for me because I don't use any headphone controls. If you do this won't be a good solution. You can download the trial version first to see if it fixes the pause/skip tracks issue.
it would be helpful to explain why or provide a source

That's because you're both the SAME account
http://tinypic.com/r/1z2g6d3/8
If he has to use his second account to give himself his own feedback, what does that really say?
Android doesn't work the same was as Windows, used RAM in Android is a good thing most of the time. Check this article for a more indepth explantion:
>When you clear apps from RAM, Android is just going to load them into RAM again the next time it needs to access those apps (for notifications, updates, and other background details). This is actually slower for you since SD cards are slower than RAM.
>And in the case of automatic task killers, you end up having to sacrifice some of your RAM and CPU to the task killer app itself, which is always running and monitoring for opportunities when tasks should be killed. This can be a big drain on battery life — and you aren’t getting anything useful in return!
You could try this.
I think it's a little outdated but might still work. You can access the phone from your computer and maybe then you'll be able to change to PTP mode.

It'll be fine after a factory reset. Xposed framework will remain installed (it installs to /system which isn't touched by a factory reset) but the app to manage it will not be. Just download it again from here.
I imagine some app is trying to sync. If you have Xposed installed, grab the Buttered Toast module, which will add the app's package name to that toast notification.
Ever since I had a Galaxy S2 I've always seemed to run into problems with USB to PC with phones. So, I looked all over and found a great solution. It's a APP called Airdroid. It does it all wirelessly and works amazing. I transfered 2000 songs in 10 minutes to my phone flawlessly. It can do anything. Videos, photos, music, text and even contacts.
I highly recommend it. http://www.airdroid.com/
Use https://www.android.com/intl/en_us/filetransfer/
Now, the catch is, on most Macs (my Late 2014 MBP was like this) it still will not work right away. However, if you restart your Mac while the phone is still hooked up, it should work on the restart. For some strange reason it will not recognize if you plug in after startup.
The design of Google Photos is that you keep your photos in the cloud, rather than on your device, so you don't need to worry about backups. When you take a photo (assuming you have auto-sync on), it creates a copy on both your local device and your cloud account. The copy on the local device can be deleted freely, and the online photo will stay there, unless you delete it through Google Photos.
If you want to get copies of your photos to your phone from your cloud account, you can either click on a photo in Google Photos, click the 3 dots on the top right, and click "download", or for downloading in bulk, go to https://photos.google.com/ and download them there. Then you can copy them to your phone or save them to a computer or anything.
This guy explains it pretty well: http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2mhq9h/switched_from_dalvik_to_art_got_a_huge_bump_in/cm4be69
they're basically 2 different ways your software talks to your hardware.
Here's another, better explanation: http://www.addictivetips.com/android/art-vs-dalvik-android-runtime-environments-explained-compared/
If the device is off you will get that error.
Also, Cerberus offers text commands which can do everything the webpage can do. You can also try to use the Client Cerberus App from another Android device.
Good luck, and let us know what happens OP!
OK , I googled from your game error and apparently that would happen if you're rooted! Magisk and supersu are things with which you can root when installing fulmics. Are you sure you didn't select supersu instead of fulmics when you flashed your rom?
There's an app on the Play Store specifically for the LG G3 that can change the max volume of headphones and speaker separately ~~if you have a rooted LG G3.~~ double checked and the app store page doesn't say anything about needing to be rooted.
The LG G3 uses a special detection and has the headphone volume fairly low. With that app you can set them to what you want. (using super high settings on the speaker will result in lots of static/crackling, headphones are fine if they are decent quality.)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laransoft.volumeG3&hl=en
For stock, the LG applications will break. For AOSP, I used Terminal Emulator. As long as you set the DPI to a minimum 420 the apps should be fine in 1080p
Secret Voice Recorder let you start and stop voice recording simply by pressing the power button thrice within 1.5 seconds. It works even if the mobile is locked.
LG includes their own for... some reason. Branding I guess. I've you've got root, I use Emoji Switcher (root), and it's been updated to include the MM emoji updates!
For those having the root I highly recommend Flex Multiwindow Mod. Allows you to split screen any app and choose which apps show up in the selection screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abdulg.flexmultiwindowmod
Are you rooted? Install Texdroider DPI and change the DPI to 534 (which is the actual DPI of the display. Not sure why LG decided to set it as 640 by default. Everything is WAAAY to big).
Key Plus for LG, for me it was unknown until a few weeks back. Easy way to put a flashlight on/off on the volume up button without unlocking
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp
Glad to hear it! I definitely suggest checking out Greenify now that you're rooted. Greenify will hibernate apps trying to run in the background and can help with the battery life!
I'm not sure what you're asking here, are you asking how long it takes to charge or what amperage people are getting? There's no way you're pulling 8amps through Qi or wired charging.
You also don't need to use the hidden menu to do things like this. Just use Ampere.
I guess that's one way of looking at it. Developer mode just opens up more options you can select though, root access is about removing restrictions. For example, there's an app called Greenify that makes your battery last longer by freezing apps when they aren't open. If you have root and grant it root permissions it has lower level access to the phone allowing it to work better.
You may have gotten a fake card.
Same thing happened to me. Bought a 64gb class 10 samsung card but it said "Made in Taiwan" on the back when apparently it should be "Made in Korea" instead.
I was able to put some of my files on it but partway through it stopped transferring files and my g3 kept looping through "insert sd card" and "preparing sd card for usage".
There are guides online for telling fake cards apart from the real thing and if you can get it to mount on another phone, you might be able to use this app to check the card.
It's a classic symptom of a runaway process.
Either install a terminal emulator or connect with adb and run:
top -m 5
The top-most process will be the one consuming the most CPU and is going to be your culprit, so you probably want to kill and/or remove it if possible. Though my guess is that it may be the media indexer which seems to go ape-shit from time to time on my G3; if you're rooted you should be able to kill the process from a terminal, otherwise the only solution I've found is a reboot.
on a fresh stock rom (bare cee) it takes like 5 seconds. On aosp its about a minute. With xposed framework installed it can be closer to 5
if you're interested in what's going on when you boot check out chainfires liveboot app on the play store, it turns your boot animation into a live logcat output
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
Well the actual clock widget configuration may not be possible, but you can get a similar feel with AC Display which I personally love.
Plus the way it displays actionable notifications is pretty sweet. I suppose you could turn off the notifications is you just wanted the clock/date.
Media Utilities is what I used to use. It works with most of the major media players including spotify, but it's kind of glitchy. Allows you to customize alot in terms of look, size, control, album art etc. It's in beta, hence why I said glitchy, but when it works it's awesome.
For flashlight, you could use my free app Key Plus for LG and set Volume Up button to toggle flashlight instead of QuickMemo+ which most people don't use. Beats any other phone (including iPhone) in terms of convenience.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp&hl=en
You can get these with only one app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yoavst.quickapps
Only one I have been able to find that is compatible with the G3 is this one, which is quite frankly hideous https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adi.remote.phone
Wish the Peel or WatchOn apps would work with the G3. Even got an APK of Peel but it wouldn't work with my TV (haven't been able to test it on anything else).
If you're rooted you should get xcam and then the paid package for it. You can change everything manually including shutter speed, bitrates, jpeg quality and much more. If you're not rooted, then Camera FV-5.
Download Reset Unread SMS (free) and use it. It'll fix it. I had this problem a few months ago, posted here to be ignored, and finally figured it out by going deep into Google.
From what I gather, it's a problem with the way iPhones handle group chats with androids and MMS being sent. Ask your iPhone friends to not group chat you if they're going to send pictures/MMS.
Good luck
None of those will actually protect you from the attack you linked to. The best you can do to protect yourself from this particular vulnerability is to prevent your MMS messages from automatically downloading on your device in Hangouts and Messenger, or switch to something like TextSecure
As for anti-virus on your phone, I've yet to see any actually do anything beneficial. You're better off just being very wary of what you download from unknown sources, but also from the Play Store, since you never know what bugs apps will have or what sneaks through Google's screening process. This is also of course where the privacy guard you mentioned is nice, or an AppOpps implementation if you're rooted.
Pass-code and encryption will help prevent a thief from getting your data if your phone is stolen. I also recommend you look at Cerberus for even better anti-theft measures.
I don't think this is possible with Bluetooth, unless you have speakers that specifically allow this, like these. Neither it is possible with DNLA. For both, the protocol does not allow it.
If your speakers support AirPlay and you have a WIFI-Network present, it is possible with a rooted phone and AllStream installed.
Look up keypass man, its fantastic, and Titanium Backup can save you a lot of time too.
Keypass will keep all your passwords in an encrypted file which will unencrypted with a password. To make it even more secure and usable cross device I keep the file in Google Drive, which requires my Google password and 2 factor authentication using the app.
The problem with the 2 factor is I keep the Authenticator app on my phone. When I factory reset my phone I would need to sign into Google, download the app and then set it up again, and I need the Authenticator app or a code to sign in.
To get around this I have the Authenticator app saved using Titanium Backup as a zip file that is flashed in recovery.
My basic flash is: Factory reset, flash ROM and gapps if required, boot, setup without signing into Google, reboot into recovery, flash Authenticator backup zip, reboot. Then open Titanium backup, restore old id (reboot). Restore Authenticator settings from Titanium and sign into Google. Restore other apps in Titanium and sign in to the ones that have forgotten passwords using Keepass.
It sounds long winded, but it's a couple of flashes and a couple of reboots. The longest wait is the ART boot and Titanium Backup restore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=keepass2android.keepass2android
some apps will work by hiding them (Hidemyroot or Rootcloak module in Xposed can do it) but success depends on how the app checks for root.
Some apps will work, some won't :(
It isn't a google app, but instead uses Google's DNS servers rather than the DNS server addresses given to your device by your WiFi router / ISP.
TWRP Manager worked great as a method to install TWRP on my new vs985 G3. Maybe you can add it as Method 3? It was a lot easier to use than your Method 1 or 2 for installing TWRP — it was as simple as selecting my model, selecting a TWRP version, and hitting install. (I see you mention TWRP Manager for flashing a ROM, so I'm not sure why you didn't mention it as a method of installing TWRP...).
Your root methods worked great! Thanks for the awesome guide :)
Also, perhaps you can add in something about disabling the oversharpening?
Welcome to G3aradise - I've a had a few phones over the years and it's my favorite piece of tech that I have and the best phone I've had overall.
I don't know so much about touchless control. I assume there's a way to set up always listening, but it'll be a battery hit most likely. I use Nova Launcher which allows you to trigger "OK Google" from any home screen. It's something I guess.
To get back some of the Moto X-type screen notifications I highly recommend AC Display https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en
I love AC Display and it'd replace my lockscreen, but it doesn't play allow Knock Code. The other alternative is which directly mimics Moto (it's also good, but I converted to AC Display about 6 months ago - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications&hl=en
This is definitely a known bug. I use SoundAbout since it also helps force audio output with certain aux cables not staying detected.
To address your issue, go to SoundAbout > Connectable devices > Wired headset settings, and uncheck Wired Headset microphone.
Hey, I'd recommend ampere, or a similar app. That app will tell you how fast your phone discharges, and how efficient charging is. My S5 charges at between 1200-1800 /hr. I can't say for sure, but my wife's g3 seems like it charges about as fast or even faster. So I'd say if you see a number >1200 you likely need a new cord or wall wart. You are charging it from the wall right? Not a laptop or wii or something? Anyway, here's a link to that app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere
Link for the lazy, I love this messenging app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging&hl=en
Deregister your number at apple's site if you haven't already: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
As for apps, personally I've never used the stock app and only use Google's Messenger app, haven't had any issues so far.
Please try my app - Key Plus for LG. It will let you toggle flashlight, launch apps or shortcuts by holding your volume button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp
Here ya go - backed the apk up and stuck it on Drive: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1_xL26gBsyLWUctUmhyc0JPMVE/edit?usp=docslist_api
Hope it works :-)
All that said, I don't use it, I use Calcu
I suggest you check your screen using a white background (make sure it is full screen or else you wont see the burn in) and set your screen brightness to the lowest. I'm sure you will absolutely find ghosting on your phone.
Or use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bengigi.screen.diagnostic I had a galaxy nexus and I thought i didnt have one after a year of usage. Turns out there was burn in on the notification bar.
I have installed this one.: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devexpert.weather
It has a lot of settings and looks like this on mine: http://i.imgur.com/CIPQpqR.jpg
By the way, removing the music widget also gave a little performance boost. The only thing left from LG's widgets is the E-Mail widget. I just can't find a good looking one with a sync button.
Since you mentioned flashlight, I would like to mention my Key Plus app for G3 which will allow you to toggle flashlight, launch any app, shortcut, "Ok Google" voice prompt etc... by long pressing the volume button when the screen is off. All without root access.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp
Granted it is not as cool as tapping the screen in different ways but I suppose this is the next best thing.
Not OP, but here's a link to the template on another thread. I checked and it's the same xls template they sent me when they approved my request.

Some no name 3800mah Chinese battery from a local store. I can take a picture of it if you're interested.
Edit: Found it on ebay and Alibaba
Lollipop has something called Profiles, quick guide to it
> 5.0 shows whole message from whatsapp or viber... is there any way to solve that?
Not unless the developer turns the priority of his app (whatsapp in this case) to a lower priority. You can disable the 'heads-up' notifications tho.
I agree it's a shitty system they introduced with Lollipop, but I'm pretty sure Google will fix it so a user can do it per app basis.
And about the recently used apps.. I have no idea. I never use it :)
>3.best dpi for fulmics?
534 is the correct calculation for the screen size and resolution, I believe
>i change mine then suddenly the xcam lg app is cropped out and not fit on my screen)can someone help me?
Xcam is a user-made app and does not currently support altered DPI. If you adjust your DPI to stock, Xcam will work. Otherwise, if you are rooted and can use a per-app DPI solution like App Settings you can set Xcam to use the stock DPI so it will render correctly again.
Sorry I cannot answer questions about LG apps or Nova because I do not use either.
It convinces Spotify that your phone is actually a tablet, and seeing as tablets are exempt from Spotify's restrictions (like shuffle, ads, etc), the module allows you to enjoy Spotify premium for free. You can download it here
Awesome! I was looking to just use Advanced Power Menu so I can regain silent mode, but that doesn't seem to currently work with the G3 :(
Until/unless it gets fixed, I am definitely going to be using this. Thanks!
Don't clear RAM. It's not good for Android. Android manages RAM different than Windows. Unused RAM is wasted RAM on Android. Read more here: http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care and here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ram-boosters-task-killers-bad-android/
An app to extend battery life? The only one I can think of is Greenify. Its fairly self explanitory, you just freeze apps to stop them from running in the background. In theory this will save battery life because not so many procceses are using the processor and ram so the power required goes down so the battery last longer.
Did you change your DPI? It could be that. I had to set my DPI back to factory on my VS985 to install some apps, but Tinder would not install for me through the store no matter what on certain ROMs. You should be able to grab the apk, and install it that way. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/tinder/
There should be a big green "Download for Android" button or something like that.
Again, if it works, get a custom recovery and remove the thing ASAP. Unless you like CM levels of bloatware as your super user app.
You can make it work!
I wrote down how-to here before. I've been using it for two weeks now already.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the LG Apps will crash with 1080p resolution so you have to change the DPI with App Settings (xposed module) to whatever DPI you chose for every LG App (you use).
Definitely the resolution. If you root and install Xposed Framework, there's a module that helps you circumvent this by tricking Google Play into thinking your DPI is 240, which works in virtually all apps.
I havent tried this myself, but the issue is like you said, due to the resolution. This is supposedly a workaround that allows you to change the DPI settings in the play store. http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.mods.playstorefix
Download the APK here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer and install it, then you can download and install Xposed GEL Settings (and I also recommend G3 Tweaksbox) from the Play Store. Go into the Xposed app, enable the modules under the modules section, then go into the framework section and install the framework. Reboot and the settings are configurable in each of the apps. (You'll also want the Google Now Launcher from the play store, if you don't already have it)
I've had nothing but good experience from LP personally. The bluetooth lock feature is quite nice (wont ask for password if connected to select bluetooth devices.)
Among other quality of life improvements and much improved security.
I don't really see a reason to stay on KK if you don't have to personally. Material design is beautiful as well if you like eye candy.
How did you like WP btw?
I downloaded the MAC driver from here: http://www.mylgphones.com/download-and-install-the-usb-drivers-for-lg-g3-on-windows-and-mac.html
I then run this program and can view the file system on the phone when plugged into the USB port. https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
I can copy music, pictures, whatever I need to back and forth.
I came over from the 4S a couple weeks ago.
Nova Launcher Prime, Zooper Widget Pro, any icon pack you fancy, Tasker is neat to play with but not entirely necessary IMO, set up the built in remote app with your TV.
I like PushBullet for texting from my computer, Morning Routine for alarm clock, Textra for SMS, Pocket Casts for podcasts (can sync across devices and platforms), Fotor for photo editing, Zedge for ringtones, and I just discovered http://simpledesktops.com for sweet minimalist wallpapers.
Sorry no links, I'm on my G3 and I'm lazy.
In many cases, just using Google's own device manager is good enough to find a phone: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
But also look into Cerberus as mentioned since it allows you to do many things to your device, and most importantly allows you to interact with it via SMS from another phone in case it's not connected to the internet.
Say you tweak the CPU speed (not recommended) so that it goes 15% above the maximum (please dont do this), you can do this with an app (but you shouldn't). Now your phone can go above the safety limits imposed by the manufacturer and this could cause it to overheat and get damaged.
Only developers and people who know what they are doing actually do this, you wont "accidentally" modify the CPU or anything important since apps that require root explain in detail what they do or warn you about it before actually applying it, and if they don't you can usually find reviews from other users.
But lets drop the worst case scenario and go to the real deal. Most people root for aesthetic reasons. Remove bloatware, change the default icons, install a custom ROM (another flavor of android), modify the lockscreen, and basically customize how the phone looks. I personally find myself changing the status bar icon's color, removing bloatware, make the lockscreen look cleaner, and install security software (shoutout to cerberus, amazing app). This wont destroy your phone or make it explode, these are simple things that don't actually affect the performance of the phone too deeply.
Take a look at the G3 tweakbox. An amazing tool that doesn't destroy your phone!
TL;DR: Rooting is as dangerous as you decide to make it. Modifying icons and themes wont break your phone, but make sure to have backups. And read. Read what you're installing and what you are applying to your phone. I have mine rooted and I could not go back to vanilla!
Also, you can remove the root by returning to stock! (erases everything btw)
EDIT: I can keep talking about this but I'll just say this last thing! Dont be afraid! Rooting is awesome!
Yep. Make sure you put it in /system/app, rather than /data/app. Also, do not use the regular apk. Use the disguised apk, which can be found here. Pasting it in there automatically installs it. Reboot, and you're done.
I'm no expert, but if you can hit the center of your screen with a hammer and it doesn't break I think it's doing a pretty good job: Youtube Link
I have the InvisibleShield Glass on my G3 and think it's awesome. It comes with a lifetime guarantee that if you ever break or scratch it they will replace it.
I also put this case around it just to keep from scratching up the edges and back: Amazon Link The one review at the bottom with some kid dropping the phone from overhead and it never breaks the screen or damages the phone either.
