Sure thing, I was kinda shocked as well.
Might not be the case anymore tho seeing as I re-read their privacy policy

Android Device Manager - Simple, to the point. https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
Cerberus for Android - More flexible, additional options including taking photos/videos, a bit more complicated. https://www.cerberusapp.com/
This is in the licence that everyone agreed to:
> Accordingly, LSDroid also reserves the right to disable any user's use of or access to the LSDroid Services and the location information, for any reason and without any notice.

Emphasis mine.
I'd recommend adding Cerberus to the list of protection apps. One nice advantage is that it has a trial period, and can take pictures via the front camera (or rear if there is no front) whenever someone fails to enter the correct PIN, acknowledges a notification from Cerberus, or makes the Cerberus scream silence.
EDIT: The developers also have additional info for rooted users to install a version which will place itself in /system/app. Not sure if it keeps its data (ie, what account it's tied to) afterwards. I'd imagine it does since the server remembers the device's IMEI.
Wiping the phone and/or removing the app (even if it's a system app) doesn't fix the problem.
The phone needs to be removed from the previous owner's account on https://www.cerberusapp.com ... I currently have this problem with my phone, as I cannot register it for use with Cerberus because "The device is associated with a different Cerberus account". This phone has been completely wiped (format /system) and reflashed MULTIPLE times since I bought it. The Cerberus app hasn't been on the phone for 4+ months.
Get an android and install Cerberus on there. It allows you to lock it, track it and pretty much do anything you could if you had it on you.
I would get one phone for them to share and tell them to not tell the mum the password. But Cerberus allows you to hide it from the app drawer and you can remotely change the pin, set an alarm (maybe saying call dad).
Ask your lawyer about the legal side of tracking it, if you should tell your wife it's on there. I would think saying you will be checking the phone will cover you for a lot of things she might do.
Being your property (by stating this is not a gift, but yours), your wife will not be able to confiscate it, or fuck with it.
Also while this software can start remotely recording video, audio or take photos do not do this as it would be all kinds of illegal.
>Accordingly, LSDroid also reserves the right to disable any user's use of or access to the LSDroid Services and the location information, for any reason and without any notice.

All the apps I bought so far:
Sfat, Cerberus instalat ca app de sistem. Astfel nu se sterge daca da restore to factory din settings, trebuie sa dea wipe din recovery si nu multi stiu de d-astea.
Also o tona de feature-uri de urmarit si monitorizat: https://www.cerberusapp.com/home/en
If you have an Android phone, get Cerebrus, the app in the video, pay the one time $5 fee, install it as a system app and then, you will have peace of mind. As he said in the video, the app can't be wiped because it pretends to be part of the operating system and from there you can, via the online portal, take photos, videos, audio recording, contacts, location, make alarms...
I lost my phone, tracked it, figured out via the texts that the guy was going to sell it, so I went to the site and said I'd buy it, arranged a time and got the police to give him a slap on the wrist, got my phone back! Worth the $5!
This phone didn't have Cerberus. In this case, I used Android Device Manager to locate his phone. My phone does have Cerberus installed, and I had them install Cerberus after this incident.
ADM is okay, but Cerberus is much better and everyone should have it and install it.
>(obviously assuming the thieves aren't bright enough to immediately reset the phone)
Bonus, if you're rooted, get Titanium Back up and "Convert to a 'System App." This basically means that you/theif can't uninstall it by going to the 'App info.' It also means that if your phone is stolen, and they reset the phone, or wipe the phone, it will persist through the reset / wipe. Unless they have gotten it into recovery mode and know to do a system wipe, you're safe.
If you have titanium backup, this is done by navigating to the app > clicking the app > swiping to the left to get to "Special Features" > "Convert to system app."
Before you do that make sure Cerberus is not a Device administrator, as it will appear to 'Hang' if it is. Removing it as a device admin just makes it faster to do this transfer.
Also, for extra security download the "secret" Cerberus from their website - here
It renames Cerberus to "System Framework" so that it is hard for someone who is not looking to find and remove if you did not make it a system app. Also helps to hide the app from the app drawer either way.
So I have the Secret Cerberus "System Framework" installed, have hidden the app from the app drawer VIA the app/webapp, and have turned the app into a system app.
Cereberus anti theft is the one I use. Think its something like $5 a year. Really has a ton of features.
From Googleplay
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your lost or stolen device, like:
> Remote control through the website https://www.cerberusapp.com
AKA your not just giving yourself a remote root access to your phone, you are giving the Cerberus creators full root to your phone remotely too.
Website where you can access commands.
Download from the website, so you can "hide" it within your ROM (meaning instead as showing up as "Cerberus" in the app list, it shows up as "System Framework" to be even more hidden).
Google Play download, for ease of use.
It just depends on if you want it to be hidden, or if you don't mind. Either way you can have it hidden from your launcher (Apex, Nova, etc) app list, as it gives you an option within the app.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like it could be Cerberus, it allows people to control a device remotely without the user even knowing. If your friends phone isn't rooted then the app can be removed by factory resetting the device, if your friend doesn't want to go down that route then try looking for a disguised app called "System Framework" by going to Settings -> Apps.
Here's more information: https://www.cerberusapp.com/
I had Cerberus installed on my HTC One X when I lost it (fell out of my pocket, got picked up by a kid) a few years back (probably 2012), and I had to explain multiple times that no, it wasn't an iPhone.
They also couldn't pull up the Cerberus site on their PC because they were using Internet Explorer 6.

Used Cerberus, the flash from the picture must have freaked them out because the phone is now off. Can tell it's a food establishment from the glove and apron, but the flooring is so standard. When all up down and around 5th with no luck. Any ideas, guys? I'm at a loss of what else to do.
Want to make your phone even more secure? Make Cerberus a System App.
(Unless they have gotten it into recovery mode and know to do a system wipe, you're safe.)

The following link shows how you can get Cerburus so that it is hidden: https://www.cerberusapp.com/download.php
It shows up as "System Framework" instead of Cerberus, which is useful if you're dealing with a thief that knows what Cerberus is.
Great product.
This a million times.
One cool thing to note about Cerberus is that if you're rooted, you hide it in system apps and it will survive if a would-be thief is able to perform a factory reset.

My question to you: Why are you recommending this on the privacy subreddit?
Lawsuit, where? I've just had a very quick skim through the T&C: https://www.cerberusapp.com/terms.php
They reserve the right to change the terms of licence as they see fit.
Where would you bring a claim? In the US? How would you enforce? Where the app dev is? Is it worth your while for the cost of the app? Class action? Class action where? They are popular in the US, but out of the US, popular?
I've heard about Cerberus, if I'm not mistaken you have to install it as a system app, but that's good, because it can't be easily uninstalled. And of course, write down your IMEI number, so when the phone will get stolen, you can report it to law enforcements.
If you can get on their phone for 5 minutes to download a remote control app then you can do whatever you like; track the phone from a PC, take pictures/video with the camera, record sounds with the microphone, wipe everything etc.
I have one on my phone and it works great.
Go here and download the disguised version of cerebrus app (zip file). Make sure you download the correct variant of the app depending upon your android version.
Then put the zip file in root directory of your internal sd card.
Now go into recovery mode(in your case cwm) and flash the zip.
After that, you will find the app in your app drawer named as System Framework. You will need to create an account in order to access the app. You will also need to purchase the application through an In App Purchase, I think it costs around Rs. 350, but believe me it is the best investment you could do for your android smartphone.
You can also hide this app and start it with a code which you can dial via phone dialer.
It also has shit ton of options so it will keep you busy for 1-2 hours after the install. Make sure to tinker with it after installation to get a hang of it so you can use it features when somebody steals your phone.
Cerberus. Root your Android phone and you can install this app within recovery so if your phone is stolen and someone does a full wipe, this app will still run. $5 lifetime license that covers 5 devices.
Cerberus is the go-to for this. I used it years ago, but I left them when they changed their subscription model. It's €5 a year now.
Control via SMS.
"Cerberus security: Antitheft, Persona, Kids" https://www.cerberusapp.com
Malware really is about intent. For example, the same functions used in something like Prey and Cerberus to prevent a thief from detecting/removing it or that keep malware from removing your anti-virus are the same functions you'd expect to find in evasive malware. The difference is the intent of the software. A rootkit siphoning your data is unwanted by the user, they didn't choose to do this nor were they made aware. This is the case with the above software. It's required, not a choice. If the IRS was forcing citizens to use their program to submit their taxes and that program was also monitoring your system or had the potential to upload/download/execute files at higher privileges than the owner of that system, that would be a really big deal. Google and MS are not innocent of collecting data, but they do make the user aware to a certain extent and there are other options on the market.
Because you give this random company access to literally everything on your phone, and because they themselves state in their own privacy policy (https://www.cerberusapp.com/privacy), among other:
> When you use the LSDroid Services, our servers automatically record certain information about your usage from your mobile device and web browser. These server securely logs may include information such as a mobile device identification number and device identifier, web requests, Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, browser language, referring / exit pages and URLs, platform type, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed and the order of those pages, features used in the LSDroid mobile application, the amount of time spent on particular web pages, the dates and times of your requests, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
It's a horrible application for anyone even somewhat privacy-concious.
If they don't change the way Cerberus works, nobody will be able to install or update it from the Play Store. Existing users will remain with the latest uploaded version.
The only way to get it will be their download page
You can track your device (registered by your email address) then you can use Android Device Manager for Android devices and Find my phone for iOS devices. There are also third party apps like Cereberus which has more advanced features.
cerberusApp was the first one to implement this on android as an anti theft app, so I just had to leave this here, also it doesn't have any unnecessary Antivirus stuff and clean your memory bullshit that other apps bundle with them.
Is your phone an Android?
If it is still locked in the glovebox, you may be able to do some fancy detective work with This
EDIT: I should point out that even if it is no longer in the glovebox, you could probably add the app without the thief noticing.
Go to the link below and sign in with the Google account associated with the phone.
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
Recommend installing and familiarizing yourself with Cerberus on future Android devices.
Are you rooted? If so, you can do all that with Cerberus as a system app.
Is GPS enabled (and non-toggleble via quick settings)?
GPS responding to text can be done via an automation app. If it is toggleble, you'd have to ensure that it is enabled and if it isn't, then enable it.
I'm not certain about recovery apps (outside of Cerberus) or a homebrew solution.
Cerberus did expire it's free lifetime license [source], but paid ones are working as expected.
Honestly, I think this is something that even the most... ahem... child-freeish of us ( me ) need to take in to consideration as a community.
Unlike Ingress, this game will be appealing to kids and there will be minors going to weird places unsupervised. If you see a kid alone that is obviously playing, make note of what he looks like and where he goes at the very least. Especially if it's past what you'd assume was their bed time. Use your conscience. You might risk seeming like a creep yourself but I think it's better than risking the kid actually getting into a dangerous situations. Also if you are the kind of person who can easily talk to other people, you should use any opportunity you have to make sure that any non-playing parents understand how the game works.
Also children's phones should always be equipped with GPS locator type of apps - though they should not be considered a substitute for adult company. Well, anyone playing a game like this ( or just anyone inclined to wander ) should have something like that in their phone. I use Cerberus since I like to wander late at night.
If the device is off you will get that error.
Also, Cerberus offers text commands which can do everything the webpage can do. You can also try to use the Client Cerberus App from another Android device.
Good luck, and let us know what happens OP!
Also, you can go to the app's website and execute remote commands on the phone. Just tested it with my phone sitting next to me and I gotta say I was impressed. I could even take a picture with the front camera with the screen off.
> My question is: Is it possible to turn on location history for a phone remotely?
For security/privacy reasons, Location history for a device can only be turned on from the device, AFAIK.
> Also, I have sent a request using android manager to lock my phone with a password and put on the lock screen it is lost. However, the phone was not connected to Google at the time. Will it do it when it comes back online or do I need to send the request when it's online?
It'll enable the next time the device connects to the Internet and establishes a connection with Google's servers.
> edit: On a side note, is there any way to know if your sim card has been removed from your phone or n
Not remotely without some pre-installed security app.
I recommend on your next phone you install Cerberus and install it on the /system partition by flashing its ZIP so that even if a thief does a factory reset, Cerberus'll still be there unless the thief is smart enogh to flash a new ROM or the stock images, and it'll reconnect to your account after a wipe. It can also notify you if a new SIM is inserted, receive commands via SMS or over the Internet, and can be completely hidden on your device and appear just as a generic system app. It's well worth every penny.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/dashboard.php
Choose change settings in the dropdown. It's the last choice.
Prevent USB Debugging is one of the options there.
I have yet to find it in the application's settings.
Installing it as a system app is incredibly simple if you have a custom recovery, just download the flashable zip that matches your android version, throw it on your phone, reboot to recovery, and select that zip without wiping anything. The disguised version is the way to go here, imo, since it changes the icon and name of the app to make it a bit more stealthy.
If you're just rooted on a stock rom, and don't have a custom recovery, it's still not THAT hard. Download the flashable zip as above, only this time extract the .apk file from it and copy that to, say, /sdcard on your device. Make sure you have busybox installed, as some stock roms lack cp and other basic commands. Uninstall the Play Store version, then either using a terminal app on the phone or using ADB shell, do something like the following:
mount -o rw,remount /system cp /sdcard/Cerberus.apk /system/app/Cerberus.apk
or, if you're on 4.4, the cp would look like this:
cp /sdcard/Cerberus.apk /system/priv-app/Cerberus.apk
Reboot, and done.
They actually have a way to integrate it into the rom you are running so if the phone does get wipped it will still be there.
Here you go
I still need to do this.
Converting it to a system app will still show it as 'cerberus' though in running. If you get the disguised version from here; https://www.cerberusapp.com/download.php you can flash it in TWRP / CWM and it'll show up as 'system framework' in running apps.
As for updating it, you can always re-frash the zip every now and again. Not sure if it'll auto update.
Correction: 2.3.3+ blocks GPS being enabled unless they're in /system/app (based on what I can tell from the Cerberus help page).
Android 3.2+ stops apps from running as soon as they're installed unless they're opened by the user, as a security precaution (so malware can't install updated versions/variants of itself and go to town on a user's device).
I might be wrong, but that's the latest info I've gotten.
Check for phone rootkits.
On Android, https://www.cerberusapp.com/ is an example of one that can be installed as a fake or invisible app, depending on the levels of access to the device.
As others are saying, may not be a bad idea to get a new phone and laptop, THEN change all your passwords and force log out any other devices, if the possibility that any of the devices are backdoored exist.
Just popping in here to shill Prey Project. Root level anti theft system for computers that will survive a wipe and allow access to practically everything. For phones and tablets I've always been a fan of Cerberus Anti Theft
Presumably anti spyware apps like malwarebytes will pick them up so be sure to add them to your white lists.
This is probably the opposite kind of question that this subreddit was originally designed for but since you've clearly got good intentions and i'll just assume your Uncle is aware you're installing it because IANAL and the legality could probably get murky i'd recommend Cerberus.
From the FAQ
Yes! If you have rooted your device you can install Cerberus as a system application and get many additional features, including complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will survive a factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling when you start tracking the device. The easiest way to install Cerberus as a system app is with the "Convert to system app" feature of Link2SD: install the app, open it, long-press on Cerberus in the list of installed apps and select "Convert to system app".
I am sorry to hear that. You should contact the police and give them your IMEI, they should work with various carriers to flag that identifier so once a SIM is inserted the corresponding carrier lets them know.
For others, if your phone is rooted, you should get Ceberus. It doesn't require root but if you have it, the app can be hidden very well and can activate location services automatically.
Good luck!
To op and anyone else who doesnt have Cereberus on their phone I recommend buying it and installing it to your phone and hiding it (it has an option to hide it and access it by calling a set number). Cerberus can let you control your phone from other phones by txting messages to it with certain codes. This can allow you to take pictures, locate it, make alarms, lock out your phone, display messages, etc. You can also set the app up so only your SIM card will work on the phone.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/ Thats the website if you would like to check it out
Also if you dont have money to buy it you can download google opinion rewards to answer small surveys to save up google play credit to buy it, thats what I did.
Well that's why you're supposed to be careful with rooting, because of the things you can do to a device, exhibit A.
And it looks like I was wrong, you don't even need to flash it.
><strong>I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features?</strong>

In many cases, just using Google's own device manager is good enough to find a phone: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
But also look into Cerberus as mentioned since it allows you to do many things to your device, and most importantly allows you to interact with it via SMS from another phone in case it's not connected to the internet.
Say you tweak the CPU speed (not recommended) so that it goes 15% above the maximum (please dont do this), you can do this with an app (but you shouldn't). Now your phone can go above the safety limits imposed by the manufacturer and this could cause it to overheat and get damaged.
Only developers and people who know what they are doing actually do this, you wont "accidentally" modify the CPU or anything important since apps that require root explain in detail what they do or warn you about it before actually applying it, and if they don't you can usually find reviews from other users.
But lets drop the worst case scenario and go to the real deal. Most people root for aesthetic reasons. Remove bloatware, change the default icons, install a custom ROM (another flavor of android), modify the lockscreen, and basically customize how the phone looks. I personally find myself changing the status bar icon's color, removing bloatware, make the lockscreen look cleaner, and install security software (shoutout to cerberus, amazing app). This wont destroy your phone or make it explode, these are simple things that don't actually affect the performance of the phone too deeply.
Take a look at the G3 tweakbox. An amazing tool that doesn't destroy your phone!
TL;DR: Rooting is as dangerous as you decide to make it. Modifying icons and themes wont break your phone, but make sure to have backups. And read. Read what you're installing and what you are applying to your phone. I have mine rooted and I could not go back to vanilla!
Also, you can remove the root by returning to stock! (erases everything btw)
EDIT: I can keep talking about this but I'll just say this last thing! Dont be afraid! Rooting is awesome!
First, you'll need to be rooted. ~~Then follow the instructions on Cerberus' FAQ (under "I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features?")~~
edit: It's easier to just flash the downloadable zip file. You'll need to first install a custom recovery (which you'll probably do anyways if you're rooting), then flash one of the zip files on Cereberus' download page.
Yep. Make sure you put it in /system/app, rather than /data/app. Also, do not use the regular apk. Use the disguised apk, which can be found here. Pasting it in there automatically installs it. Reboot, and you're done.
Cerberus is also awesome.
Is your SD card formatted? Phone should give you an option to wipe it. If not, stick it in a card reader and format it. ext3/4 or fat32 file system.
not sure if you can rip out a link to do it via googles device manage web page or if google has an api to call or something they will let you use.
but some other ways to do this would be tasker plus maybe pushbullet... so switch starts the script script sends a command line API call and pushbullet sends to the phone via pushbullet client on phone, tasker and pushbullet can work together now so tasker sees your secret word come in via pushbullet and cranks volume and rings.
another way would be with maybe cerberus and https://www.twilio.com/ web service... buy a phone number from them setup a script so when the switch gets flicked twilio sends a text message to your phone with "cerberus <password> find" that is assuming thats what the find command in cerberus app does, ive not tested it before so im not sure if it will crank volume and ring or not... second category on the help page https://www.cerberusapp.com/help.php sms commands, maybe even this command instead "cerberus <password> speak text" via text...
or possibly tasker and twilio as the paired web app and phone app to do the job combining the two methods above
for above.. https://docs.pushbullet.com/
Yep it does.
Edit:

Well, Cerberus does not have a monthly subscription.
In addition to that, I don't see anywhere on Prey's website or description the ability to prevent a thief from uninstalling the app if a thief does a "factory reset".
If you have your screen lock "pin or password protected" and the thief can't access your phone or it's apps, at the very least, the thief will do a "factory reset/wipe" of the device. This is where Cerberus trumps all other anti-theft apps.
From their website:

After the thief finishes with a factory reset/wipe, the thief will think there is nothing on the phone to track him. Little will he/she know, the app is still there and you can still monitor all activities.
Another thing to note, Cerberus does not need internet access
So if a thief turns off data and gps, you can send an sms to control the phone. The thief will not see the sms either.
In the event my phone is stolen, the moment a thief tries to unlock the pin/password, I immediately get a photo of the thief sent to my email. I can start tracking/recording converstations/record video, etc...
Hopefully I never have to worry about my phone being stolen, but if it is, I feel a little bit better knowing the thief will have a very hard time disabling Cerberus unless he/she installs a stock/custom rom which would be the only way to wipe the app. But most only do a factory reset/wipe.
My understanding is that you can remote control Cerebus via SMS. That way even if cellular data has been turned off by a thief, you can still get some information from it, like GPS coordinates, make it call a number, wipe it, etc. You can even enable data and WiFi via text. The FAQ lists all the commands that work.
Basically, with a embedded Cerberus it is designed to make it even harder for someone who steals your phone to remove it. It does this by installing it into /system/app/ which means that if someone performs a wipe (deleting all data) or a factory reset (restoring the phone to as it was when first installed) Cerberus will remain installed on the phone. It will not protect it if the person flashes a new ROM. If you flash custom ROMs, you will need to install Cerberus again, and should probably remove the zip for the ROM after you're done. This means that the person can't just boot to recovery and use the ROM to remove Cerberus.
A big nuisance with wipes and factory resets is that you need to send the first command via SMS, as logging in won't be possible if someone else has control over your phone. Still, it's a small price to pay for being able to keep in control after the person thinks they've got complete control by doing a factory reset.
Since others probably want to know about it too, I'll post the instructions too. This method only works if your phone is rooted, or if it has an unlocked bootloader. I'm hoping that you already know to boot to recovery onto your phone.
Download one of the flashable zips from here onto your phone. Obviously, if you're on ICS or JB, you need to pick one of the ones in the last column.
Boot your phone into recovery mode, and chose install zip (it's usually an option from the main menu.)
Select the zip file you just downloaded and it will be installed into /system/app/.
Reboot your phone and Cerberus is now harder to remove. Just remember that your first command if someone does a wipe or a factory reset needs to be an SMS one.
From here:
I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features? Yes! If you have rooted your device you can integrate Cerberus into your ROM and get two additional features: complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will even survive a wipe/factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling even on Android 2.3.3 and later. To have these features uninstall Cerberus, then download cerberus.zip, put it on the sd card and install it from recovery. Cerberus is also available on ROM Manager.
If that method doesn't work, you can manually install Cerberus in /system/app this way:
Uninstall Cerberus from your device
Download Cerberus.apk and put the file on your sd card
Open a terminal emulator and execute:
su
mount -o remount rw /system
cp /sdcard/Cerberus.apk /system/app/
sms "cerberus password find" where password is your Cerberus password.
No Tasker needed.
May I add something. I used to use Prey, but I didn't like the monthly fee and it actually quit working on my phone. Now I use Cerberus. It is the best app I have used. (You can even take a picture with the camera of the phone. Tracking works great. It also allows you to wipe phone and sd card remotely. You can activate the app over internet or via text. I have tried other app such as mobile defender, avg, outlook, and just about every other that does tracking. If you have your phone rooted you can move it to /system/apps/ to keep it working though a wipe and diable uninstalling of the app. I moved the apk by Root Explorer and I use Elite Superuser to allow a pin lock on Root Explorer. This way someone cannot just move the app back to the normal directory and uninstall it.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/. Mult mai agresiv / intrusiv decat ce poate face find my phone de la apple sau google. Poate inclusiv sa inregistreze faptasul pe camera/audio, browser history, call log, text log, everything.
I'll add to this, do you have an Android phone? https://www.cerberusapp.com/ exists and can be installed invisibly as a device admin with a fake APK that can be used to keep tabs on devices remotely without going through the Google Find My Device portal.
What functions would the Arduino play? You can get software like https://www.cerberusapp.com/ and some type of low battery shutoff solution so it wouldn't drain the car battery if it wasn't used for a while.
Totally agree with ya. If you're interested, I use Cerberus anti theft app, after reading this I searched and saw it has the capability to disble the status bar and power button from the lock screen but it charges as a service.. $6/month. https://www.cerberusapp.com/
I also had an email yesterday. Tried to log in today to see what's setup in this account, what info I gave them etc, and I can't login as my accounts expired.
Just sent them an email via the address here to requesting all data they hold on me under the GDPR subject access requirement. If anyone else does the same, PM me, be interesting to compare notes with their response.

We deeply apologize, but it was not feasible to make it last for a lifetime, so your license will expire after 3 years of free service, on May 1st 2017. > > We are sending you this notice well in advance of the license expiration, because by then the app will be more expensive and subscription-based (with an annual or monthly fee). If you want to purchase a lifetime license with a one-time payment now, you can use this link: https://www.cerberusapp.com/buy.php?username=[REDACTED] . All your Cerberus account settings will remain unchanged, including the number of devices that you can manage with the account. Emphasis mine
Never buy a phone that is running with custom OS. I prefer to buy a phone with locked bootloader, then you can unlock it by yourself.
Ever heard of Cerberus anti theft app? It survives even after wipe/flash. There might be many rogue apps to stalk people.
Could be this: https://www.cerberusapp.com/
The app installed does not show as installed, runs in the background, and if you reset the phone the application still stays installed.
The user of the app can fully control your phone, see all your text messages, turn on he camera, etc. New phone would probably be your best bet.
In general, what I said is mostly true. However, now that I think about it I don't know of any other way to detect failed login attempts like Secure Settings did.
Myself, I use Cerberus.
What will really blow your mind is that what you end up discovering is only the tip of the iceberg. Most likely a lot more went on / is going on / will go on that you won't ever find out about.
Most cheaters will most likely never admit to anything unless they're cornered by undeniable evidence - something most of us just can't secure. Eg: They might throw you a bone "Oh we just kissed" or anything to downplay what really happened. They're also usually very convincing liars.
Look my advice to you would be to cut your loss now. Such a woman most likely won't change. I know you won't though. You'll end up staying with her, and if you do - then install this app right now on her phone: https://www.cerberusapp.com/ and find out what you really deserve to know.
But be warned. If you take spying to that level, you're going to be in for a world of hurt, and need to be emotionally strong to take action and leave her ass.
First of all, if you log onto the web and pull up Find My Device, login, and tell it to locate your device...your device will automatically enable it's location services.
If you are rooted: Cerberus does the same thing, and is way more flexible than anything else. Find it at https://www.cerberusapp.com. You would have to undergo some setup, move this app into /system/priv-app/
making it a system app, and obviously be rooted.
But the security and stealth of this app is superior, the app is relatively cheap, serves 5 devices, and you can do advanced programming of how you want the device to respond in certain situations.
Came here to say Cerberus for next time. It is worth the cost, and gives you added features above and beyond Android Device Manager. Best of luck. I hope you get it back without incident.
They used to have zipped version that you could install in recovery, but when I went there to get the URL for you I noticed that it was removed. Some quick digging in their forum pointed to this answer in their FAQ: https://www.cerberusapp.com/help.php?answer=9
No.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/terms.php
> LICENSE GRANT, RESTRICTIONS AND UPGRADES.
1. License Grant. LSDroid hereby grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use a compiled code copy of the LSDroid Software
First thing to do with new phone, install Cerberus. Changing your Google password will disable ADM on the phone. Decide if getting the phone back is more important than the pics.
Grab the appropriate Flashable ZIP from here and flash it via recovery. The app will be installed as a system app and be able to survive a factory reset.
Edit: words
Cerberus recently added that as a feature (but it's not free):
>"Block status bar" option, to prevent a thief from pulling down the quick settings in the lock screen
If you're rooted and have the Xposed Framework alpha for Android 5.0 installed, Sense 6 Toolbox recently added that feature as well:
>[New][5.0] Disable EQS on secure lock screen
You can get the different versions directly from the Cerberus website. https://www.cerberusapp.com/download.php once you flash the app, it will function exactly the same as the apk version. I personally use the hidden flashable version so the name Cerberus doesn't show up in the apps list (instead it is named something like system config). Since you already bought a copy, you'll be able to log in with your credentials the same as you do now. You may need to uninstall your current version before you flash the alternate version though.
If you are rooted, you can have Cerberus embed itself into the system files in the event that the phone should be wiped. It is a little bit of work making it happen, but it is possible.
Mobile device security is very important anymore. A lot of us carry corporate email on our phones as part of our job attached to their work email. Others will carry important spreadsheets containing financial data on a tablet to work on in a taxi, subway or even while catching a meal at a diner. Given enough time, one is liable to forget the device while leaving in haste to attend to a problem or perhaps they were distracted.
All it takes is someone to come by and pick up your now left aside device and snoop around. It can be innocent at first, they look for the owner info so they can return it, but then they see your files. Or maybe, they are there to flip the phone to sell it on the black market. A simple erase and they can no longer track the phone.
Setting a pattern lock, or simple pin or password lock is not enough if a person were to hook up the device to the computer and read the contents from the drive. If you have data or ahem photos that you want to keep private and never want to fall into the wrong hands, it is vital to encrypt your device with a good password.
Adding security apps like Cerberus or Lockout Security help to further bolster the security in the event that your device is lost or stolen.
If you have a custom recovery installed, you can flash this zip to have cerberus as a system app. It's going to survive a factory reset if a thief attempts one, but if the thief does a full wipe of course it's not going to make it.
Where was it ? We would need more information.
Does your friend have a distant localisation app ? I found my thief thanks to cerberus. If she has a similar application it would be easier.
if nobody is going to actually answer this. Cerberus can do this for the most recent messages/calls and be completely hidden. all the information can be accessed from their webpage. https://www.cerberusapp.com/
I'll second Cerberus, install the apk directly to your system folder to survive factory wipes. It saved my Nexus 4.
See <strong>"I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features?"</strong>
Update for anyone interested: I discovered that Cerberus has the option of installing directly to ROM.
If anyone who has Cerberus is interested, you can find it in their FAQ under "I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features" portion.
