I don't currently have this issue, that's not to say it doesn't exist but the people that DO have this issue must then have some 3rd party apps installed that are conflicting with Android 7.
I had this issue in the past with many upgrades and always end up having to use Safe mode to see if the drain still exists.. if it doesn't.. then that means you do have 3rd party app issues.
or I had to root my device so I could use 3rd party apps to monitor battery usage and drain.
if im not rooted, then I typically use CPU SPY ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy ) and when using CPU SPY i always hit reset stats and then sleep my device and wait a min or 2. then wake device up to see if it hit deep sleep. if not then i start going through apps as a detective and figuring out which one i can FORCE STOP.. i repeat this process until i do hit deep sleep.
its agonizing.
just for example... one time it was an app called FOSCAM which I use for my home web cams.. every time I updated to the latest OS, their app never played well with the latest and would cause drain issues by not letting my device hit deep sleep. one time it was Facebook pages manager... i cant remember them all but its almost always 3rd party apps not playing nicely with the latest OS because they didnt take the time to test with the developer preview to work out bugs.
PSA - installing apk's from anything other than Google Play might make you susceptible to QuadRooter at this point in time. Mirror for Google Play
Go solid explorer brothers. it's flawless and you probably have an extra $50 in play credit, so don't whine about paying for a great app.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I will try my best to help you get these recordings, if you need anymore help, please, reply to my comment, or PM me.
Go to Best Buy or RadioShack and buy an AUX cable. This cable will be able to plug into your phone's headphone port and have the same plug in the other end.
Now, you need a computer, or laptop with a microphone port that looks the same as the one on your phone. If the port isn't the same and the cord won't plug in, talk to an associate at the place you bought it from for an adapter, any electronics store employee should know what to get you.
Now, download Audacity
Now, press the record button in Audacity, then call your voicemail. Play the messages that you need and press the stop button when done. I would suggest copying the file a couple times, as well as uploading it to Google Drive/Dropbox just to be safe, because its so important.
Later on, you can split the audio file into multiple files that have each message separated, either by a tutorial online, help through Reddit, or a tech savvy friend you have. It's not that difficult more difficult than this was.
Reply or message me if you need any more help, I would love to help as well as other Redditors.

I've had this Spigen case for just under a year and I have had no complaints. It grips well, it holds its shape, and, imo, it looks pretty sharp. $12 on Amazon.
Spigen Rugged Armor Nexus 6P Case with Resilient Shock Absorption and Carbon Fiber Design for Nexus 6P 2015 - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CBFBVI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_7NM4ybJ457E28
I downloaded another app that hides it, just search 'running in the background' on the play store. Been working great for 3months
Edit: here
Slide - hands down the best client for Android ;)
All others are not even close :p
And it gets better over time, almost every week :D
Android O supports the substratum theme engine without needing root access. With it you can change the theme, just install it and look for a theme you like in the Play Store.
Proshot
Edit: Here's a link to it on the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot2&hl=en
It's been my favorite of all of the manual camera apps thus far. And I've tried all of them that I know of. The developer u/RiseUpGames is extremely active working on new features and is very responsive with request as well as bug reports.
Check his review for the adapters:
> I'm a Software Engineer on the Chrome OS team at Google on the Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C teams.
I believe him.
For future reference, there is a benchmark app that opens a bunch of apps and calculates the time for you.
For what it's worth if you don't want to sideload the APK, I just went to Google Play Services in the Play Store app using this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms
The update was available so I updated from there instead of APKMirror. I'm now also on 9.0.83.
Can you try using an app like "Sensor Readout" or "Sensor Multitool" builtin's Step Detector and see if the problem persists? The "step detector sensor" is a virtual sensor, so doesn't really have any basis in reality*. It might depend on the app. I'm curious to see if this one has that issue as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.onyxbits.sensorreadout&hl=en https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wered.sensorsmultitool&hl=en
Followup: by "basis in reality" I mean "has a physical chip dedicated to just that reading". The BM160 is merely an accelerometer, the rest is software processing of the simple 3-axis acceleration readout into more complicated things. Some of it is done on the sensor itself, other parts are done by the Android OS as needed.
Followup 2: Yep, managed to bug out the step counter in Sensor Multitool. I locked the phone while the app was running, maybe Doze is related to the issue? Can you try disabling battery optimization on your app and see if that fixes it?
I downloaded ES File Explorer so I could move my content between phones over wifi without having to use the piece of junk that is Android File Transfer (and neither phone has USB 3.0, so it would be slow as well). All you have to do is make sure both phones are on the same wifi network, open ES File Explorer on both phones, select the file(s) or folder(s) you want to move to the 6P, then hit menu --> send, select the 6P in the device list, then press the send button and you can send them over wifi. I moved my pictures, videos, and downloads this way.
I also used SMS Backup and Restore to backup my texts, then used ES File Explorer to move the backup file to the 6P, then restored it.
It seems to pop up in case threads so I took this shot to illustrate the difference.
On a side note I ordered the case off of Amazon and was sent the case that blocks the sensor. Upon realizing the design flaw the company contacted me and offered to either refund me or to ship me a new case at no cost. It's a generic case, but it's nice and clear and won't hide that sexy aluminiumiumiumium....
They should be backed up to Google Photos for you automatically unless you opted out of that.
Make sure you are logged into the same google account you used on the phone and visit:
They aren't full version, they are a bit compressed but they should be there.
But hasn't the Snapdragon 800 and later been tracking steps anyway? Google Fit already does this, and iPhones have been able to measure steps since the 5s without massive drain.
Where it gets stupid is that Google Fit INSITS on using your location to track your steps. I mean that's great if you combine the step counter with location information to generate some useful information like in my Google Location dashboard or how the Moves App did things before /r/android hated it for being acquired by Facebook, but how about giving me an option to use my fitness tracking as a pure dumb step counter without adding additional drain using my location?
All of these shots were taken using Manual Camera and edited using VSCO. The stock camera is perfect for taking casual snapshots but I'd prefer to use Manual Camera for shots that are a bit more premeditated.
If you are going to keep your phone for that long, you really need to start mitigating it now. Most people won't notice burn in (even bad burn in) but it is something every AMOLED display suffers from over time. It's just something you have to accept as a trade off.
I use GMD Immersive. It's an app on the Play Store. It will force immersive mode system wide (as opposed to just those apps that are programmed to use it). This will probably eliminate nav button burn in and notification burn in, which are the main things you should be worried about. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.immersive
Sure no problem.
KLWP is a live wallpaper maker. You can create cool stuff with it. It also has animations and amazing dev support.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.wallpaper
There are some good free presets on play store for this as well.
Assuming you are fully stock and not rooted:
Install Wakelock Detector Lite, connect the phone to your PC and issue the following commands (you'll need the USB Drivers, and Developer Options enabled):
adb tcpip 5555 adb shell pm grant com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector.noroot android.permission.BATTERY_STATS
Now open the app and check the top culprits. Tap on the individual items to expand, and see which specific wakelocks are taking up the most time. This should narrow it down quite a bit more than the built-in Battery screens.
Everything besides the text announcing while driving. However, there is an app that will do it easily:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=robj.readit.tomefree&hl=en
And with your $50 Google Play Credit it should cover all the pro features.
If you can convince (and it's a big if, I know) those friends and family to try Telegram (https://telegram.org/) which is cross-platform and has desktop apps, you would be able to have all those things. If you send your pictures and video as files on it then they will be lossless.
You can also get the new navigation bar using Substratum & N Navbar.
If you have 7.0 its actually already a feature able to be activated in the system UI tuner. Download this and run it, it should put a night mode icon in your notification panel, and to enable settings for it you have to long press on the icon.
I would have preferred the dark theme too but, at least, this is a start. If you have root, you can use substratum to get some cool themes like MAGPIE.
Details -
You'll obviously need to be rooted. Install the app "Layers manager" and the theme called "Prime". Then, open the prime theme and under "general overlays" > "zSettings mod", select "Two columns". Apply the mod and reboot your phone. Android settings will now have two columns. Profit.
EDIT - Links added.
For your case, if you dirty flash (flash without wiping) there's a high chance you'll bootloop. Personally I've never been successful with dirty flashing from stock to custom.
Since you're rooted already, there are several backup apps you can use.
Contacts can be synced with your Google account, or download apps and restore the .VCF once you finish wiping
SMS can be transferred in a similar fashion as contacts, plenty of apps
App data you can use Titanium backup, it's an annoying process but the safest way IMO
User data USB cable and transfer it to your computer.
Shouldn't be. I just checked on mine and it worked fine. It's possible you need to update the Wallpaper app along with Pixel launcher, which you can grab from the Play Store here
After reading your post I just found out a new Google Play Service has been released.
9.8.75 (jumping from 9.6.83) is available at the APK download here. The Nexus 6P uses the 440-XXXXXXXX... variant.
I use SMS Backup and Restore. Download the app on your old phone and it lets you back up your messages (both SMS and MMS, despite its name) either to Google Drive or a .zip file, and then you can download the app on your new phone and restore all your messages from that backup to Android Messages in just a few minutes. It's a simple app, but it works really well, and I've since set it up to back up all messages to my Google Drive every night. Hope it helps you out!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Had the same issue with Twilight installed this app called "Hide running in the background Notifications" and it took care of the problem: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iboalali.sysnotifsnooze
Over time, depending on usage, your battery calibration information can get out of whack. Basically your phone thinks there is 20% battery left, but the reality is it's much lower. I have had this problem in the past, and have had success using a battery calibration app to fix it. The app deletes the battery info file and your phone reconstructs a new one with more current information. Give it a go, perhaps it will help.
EX kernel manger - display color calibration, High brightness mode w/ optional autobrightness that kicks the HBM in sunlight, gives the 6P Note 5 brightness in direct sunlight. dev flar2 also made a paid app to have this mode kick automatically without tasker.
Xposed modules - Amplify and/or power nap - block screen off wakelocks.
bubbleupnp - xposed module that can cast video, music, pics, etc.. from network storage. only app i've found that can cast everything from NAS.
flat style bar indicators - change status bar icons, size, spacing, alignment, color, etc... great for avoiding burn in on amoled too.
Unicon - change app icons system wide. apps will show your chosen icon in settings, in app list views, toast messages, etc...
You can get the battery percentage inside the battery with this method:
Open notifications panel so that the settings gear appears (swipe down twice).
long press on the gear for about 3 seconds (gear will start spinning). This enables System UI Tuner
Open System UI Tuner in your settings - at the very bottom, beneath About Phone
Toggle "Show embedded battery percentage"
Done.
Or there's this app that basically does the same without having to enable the System UI Tuner. I like the Tuner to play with different things, though.
As far as the weather widget, I don't use one. I just swipe right and bring up my Google Now stuff and weather is in there.
Calendar: Don't use a full month. I've gotten used to the Google Calendar's widget view. I came from the S3 so I understand why you want the full size calendar. To each his own.
Size of the phone: can't help you any there. If it's too big, return it, get the S6 or wait for the S7 or get the Moto X Pure.
Good luck.
I've been really enjoying Signal. I haven't tested out the encrypted messaging feature yet but as far as an SMS app goes, it's great. Clean, quick and easy to use.
Personally, although I did really like Cf.lumen on my OnePlus One's IPS LCD screen, I don't like it on the 6P's AMOLED. Night mode seemed to make everything brighter because the blacks are also red-ified, so the entire screen was lit-up.
I was having issues with the 6P being way too bright in near-dark. It was also not bright enough in bright, direct sunlight. So, I went back to an app I haven't used in years (when I had a Nexus 5, which had wonky brightness levels when it was first released): Velis Auto Brightness. Now, I'm not blinded if I look at my 6P in the middle of the night, and I can see it just fine on really bright, sunny days.
As far as "will it damage the screen?" Well, maybe, a little bit, after years of primarily showing reds; the constantly in-use red pixels will dimish in brightness compared to the blue and green. But... unless you do nothing night after night but watch 8 hours of video in pitch black, I doubt you'll ever see an effect before you move onto your next phone.
So I'm a fan of privacy, but before I get into that I'm also an engineer, so I tried to figure out why Sync.me is a huge privacy breach.
Well it goes back to when Facebook disabled the API of apps being able to pull friends lists. Therefore these sync apps are pretty much dead. So how does Sync.Me work? It uploads your contacts and numbers to a database. Maybe back when Facebook made the change, Sync.Me pulled the connections/links you had between contacts and Facebook friends, and basically uploaded that to their database. Now they have info that Friend A on Facebook = 212-555-1212. Meanwhile they see new user Joe Smith with Friend A on their contacts, but since Joe can't pull his Facebook contacts anymore due to the Facebook API change, Sync.Me sees Friend A is already uploaded to their server and matches with phone # and then pushes the photo to Joe.
This is exactly how Sync.Me was able to give me tons of my coworkers photos when I am only friends with a select few. By using a crowd-sourced contacts list, they basically can supply you with more photos than you might have friends on Facebook.
It's impressive, but I see this is the only way they can continue to offer a Facebook photo syncing service. OTOH if you don't want your info and contacts to get uploaded into a massive reverse lookup system, consider looking at Social Contact Photo Sync. Note that this requires Root because there's no way to bypass the Facebook API without being a massive privacy breach.
You should send that to Google, maybe they'll give you $100. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/google-will-pay-you-100-if-you-just-help-them-out/
I'm trying to be funny of course. That's just a cover for how frustrated I am with Google over this shipping BS. I won't be angry though unless they miss my shipping deadline on Monday.
I recently ordered a ProClip. It's the only one I've seen so far that includes charging. Slide the phone in and it seats on a type-C connector. No fumbling with plugging in cables when you get in the car.
It's not the cheapest solution out there.... But they often have coupon codes. I got mine 20% off on their Thanksgiving promotion.
The Fiio A1 Portable Amp is only $27 on amazon, and their amps are pretty solid for phones. I have the E6 and use it with my 6P and my larger headphones.
Or a good file explorer like Solid Explorer, make a windows share on your pc/laptop, connect to it in Solid Explorer, copy and paste everything across. Google recently released a bare bones, connect to SAMBA shares app that does kind of the same job. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.sambadocumentsprovider&hl=en
I suspect that you are still charging, but now you're only getting 0.5a through the port; net effect is that you're using more power than you're putting in. An app like Ampere will give you the details.
As far as what has Win10 Makers done... no idea. Probably an updated driver that is a bit more cautious and the USB port is no longer recognizing your phone/cable combination as being capable of >0.5a. If you've got a spare cable from a different manufacturer laying around, try that. But, to be honest, its probably time to grab a wall charger.
I remember Light Flow had some problems with the 6P initially, so I guess that's no surprise, but definitely a good thing to point out if anyone has trouble with this. Light Manager is a good alternative, and I can vouch for that working just fine.
Normal process is to unlock your bootloader (which triggers the device wipe), flash TWRP, and then use TWRP to install SuperSU. Its nice and clean and doesn't touch your /system partition. And, if you really, really screw up your phone and softbrick it, its fairly easy to reinstall a factory image and start fresh.
You could try using KingoRoot or KingRoot; they use a root exploit to obtain root. They're both vile apps and install shit you don't want which pester you constantly to 'optimize' (and will brick your phone if you try to delete them). You can then pay for and use Super-Sume to convert to SuperSU and get rid of the shit that King/Kingo installed. You won't be able to install Xposed, and SU will be on the /system partition, but you can use most other root apps.
The thing about method #2: if you screw up your phone at some point, which is likely when you're rooted and installing apps to customize your system, you're probably fucked. Fucked as in bricked phone with no way to fix it ('cause your bootloader is locked).
Dude, just suck it up and unlock your bootloader and setup your phone the way you like it again. Or, don't root. Doing it half-assed will just cause pain.
Well that is very odd I just bought one too and had it arrive today. I got a usb A to type c cable and am using the app camera fi. Seems to work really well though.

I personally use Sync for reddit. Its got everything I need. I've tried a few others but I always come back to Sync.
I use iSyncr to sync my iTunes playlists. The synced playlists stay in the same order on the phone. I have tried several apps and methods to sync iTunes playlists. This app is by far the best and one of the fastest ways to sync playlists. I have over 90 smart playlists with 1,100+ songs and it's very fast and reliable. I even setup a Tasker task were my playlists are synced whenever I charge my phone on my night stand.
I'm only experiencing a small issue that only seems to happen with smart playlists. If I change the sort order in iTunes, the changes aren't being reflected on my phone. However, I think this isn't really an issue with the app because it seems like iTunes always appends new songs to the end of the smart playlist.
If you don't mind an add on Lux does a much better job of controlling the auto-brightness than the native system. I gave up on the native version because it kept losing it's mind in low light and jumping to full brightness. Lux lets you set custom points that it will learn from and adapt to how you like the light.
Manual Camera is the perfect counterpart to Google Camera for when you want to use the Nexus 6's manual focus (and other fancy camera controls I'm too dumb to care about).
I'm using this, set to 15 minute checks on cell networks, 5 minutes on wifi. Its going to be faster than fedex's SMS tracking.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.orrs.deliveries&hl=en
I am on stock and I have one main reason to root: AdAway. It's the perfect ad-blocker since it modifies the hosts file on the device, making it impossible to even download ads. If there's one thing that could potentially improve battery life, for me it's this.
No, there were several days above 100 here in Dallas. Hottest was 105.
I assume you are able to use a custom recovery, otherwise you probably wouldn't be in this situation. To resize your storage without losing data, you can use resize2fs, which is now included in TWRP.
While this method should be safe, I would still make a backup just in case anything goes wrong.
I'm done. Flashed the image from O site and flashed a TWRP recovery ( https://twrp.me/devices/huaweinexus6p.html ) and the MagiskManager ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 ) annnd it is working!
Lots of changes. Odex and deodex. "Debloat" (get rid of unnecessary apps, etc.) Lots of them increase the amount of time wifi scans, to save battery, among many other things...
Maybe this helps: http://www.andromint.com/advantages-disadvantages-using-custom-roms-for-android/

It runs really well for being in beta, but your input touches will be seconds behind. Still really cool to check out if you're interested.
You also don't need to be rooted
Does it say it's shutting down? Could be a defective battery that can't maintain the voltage. Did you use a Huawei one? Subsequent pictures are very power intensive. If your battery was going to fail, it would be during that.
~~Download accubattery~~ and monitor your battery voltage in-between subsequent shots. I think it will auto-shutdown below 3.4V.
EDIT: NM I see you already have accubattery. Use that to monitor as you're taking pictures.
Sorry to say, it's definitely a fake. The dead giveaway here is that so many certification numbers on your charger are filled with Xs, rather than being real certification numbers. UL Listings/Certifications in particular require numbers for verification, so the fact that your charger has none screams knock-off.
For example, yours shows the I.T.E. Power Supply as being XXXX, while the OEM charger in the video shows it was being 8D66.
On the bright side, it's a good thing you asked about this. You easily could have damaged/fried your device, depending on just how bad of a knock-off it is. You can use Ampere to check the specs.
You can use an alternate launcher which has integrated the 'feature' such as Action Launcher or Nova Launcher .
I use this and put the phone on speaker when recording calls. It works like a charm.
Sorry to hear about your father.
you need a OTG cable and stickmount app
Then you can play with rocket player, poweramp or whatever your flavor of music app u like.
Get a widget that turns the screen off when you press it. As a security measure, it will "break" fingerprint lock until you unlock it with your secondary lock (E.g. Pin, Password, Pattern).
There's plenty of them around on Google Play. This one will do just fine: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Install it, activate it and add a shortcut on your home screen. There after, before going to sleep simply turn the screen off with that shortcut and the phone won't unlock with the fingerprint until you enter your pin.

The wallpaper is a pic of me and my wife at Mt Pilchuck in Washington lol but if you like it sure http://imgur.com/1YnIw6g
I'm using nova launcher, 8x5 grid with the apps in the middle. The dots under are folders; I just changed the folder picture to a dot.
I'm going to add this as well: Custom Quick Settings
Custom quick toggles was always one of my favorite ROM features and you can do quite a bit without root using this app.
You can download an app like LTE Discovery from the Play Store, and see if it shows that you are on Band 12 - Like this image shows. To see if VoLTE is working, make a call and see if your signal indicator still displays LTE.
This is apparently fixed in google app version 6.12 and above (currently in beta)
A reported workaround (which I haven't tried yet) is to go into the settings of the google app -> accounts & privacy -> google activity controls. From there, on ALL accounts attached to the phone (drop down menu up top) turn ON 'Voice & Audio Activity'
Edit: I just checked APKmirror, today there's been an update for the google app to a 6.12 version that's not labelled beta. Might be worth a look. I can't do so myself at the moment.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-search/google-search-6-12-25-release/
I'm using a magnet one from amazon. I was a little scared, but just did a 4 hour drive and it stayed solid. I put a nfc tag on it too in order to start a driving application :)

This is the one I bought. I got really lucky and it was an Amazon Prime Daily Deal yesterday so I only paid $26.99 for it.
This was the other one I was considering. Note this one has a 5V/3A Type C port for both charging the brick and charging your device (switch input/output with the button on the brick). If it hadn't been for the sweet deal on the other one, I would have much more seriously considered this.
Anker is a very reputable brand for portable battery chargers and, from what I've heard, is the go to brand for most Ingress players.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Wow, I looked in my Google drive and found an SMS subfolder. Apparently I set this up forever ago and forgot about it, and it's been restoring daily until my 6p died. I was able to restore 6600 messages in just a few minutes.
I've changed gmail addresses and have been able to restore all of my messages and contacts so it's been a pretty easy switch so far.
I had the same issue with Twighlight. I did some searching and turns out someone has already released an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iboalali.sysnotifsnooze&hl=en&gl=us that removes the "___ app is running in the background" notification. Enjoy.
I was just wondering this the other day. I really wish it was possible. The delay is brutal.
Edit: I just installed Fliktu and it's working well so far. I wish I could completely turn off the flicking feature but so far it hasn't annoyed me or triggered on accident.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oakstar.fliktu&hl=en
Pulse SMS can reply directly from the notification, and includes a "Mark as read" button from the notification.
...In addition to message sync across multiple devices & web (paid feature).
Found this app just yesterday, and currently testing it out. It seems to work pretty well, and the developer was clever enough to turn off gestures when you're on "do not disturb." Not sure if it affects battery that much yet.
I use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect To turn on Bluetooth every time I charge my phone and shut down after 5 minutes of inactivity. Hope this helps.
cf.lumen is pretty much flux for android, but more powerful. I have an all red filter for night mode, so my phone doesn't kill my nightvision.
The app Pocketcasts has a voice boosting feature. You turn it on in single podcast and click to apply it to the rest. It was essential when I was using the 6p.
I've been a user since December. Absolutely love the phone, but at first I thought the service was only okay. I'm based in a mid sized city in Iowa and the signal was great when connected to Sprint but I could not get data through T-Mobile's towers. My service drastically improved when I found the app called Signal Spy which let me manually switch over to Sprint towers as needed. Finally, when US Cellular was added it about filled all the gaps that Sprint couldn't get in my area. Been loving it ever since, my bills are around 35$ a month. I recommend it to all my family members.. at least the ones that can live without using an Iphone or Galaxy phone.
I've recorded ~20 minutes at 1080 before. I generally don't record clips longer than 15 minutes because then it counts against your storage space in Google Photos.
One other thing you can look at is using a dashcam app which will automatically split the video into whatever lengths you want. I've used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hovans.autoguard&hl=en on multiple phones including the 6p on many hours-long drives without issue. The paid version lets you run it in the background or screen off as well.
I use Chrooma Keyboard. It offers a bit more customization to the stock keyboard; including resizing and AMOLED black theme, which I use.
linkme: emoji switcher.
Personally I think Samsung's look like ugly cartoons
edit: sorry I thought I was on /r/Android, I don't think the linkme bot works here.
here you go, I don't know if it works on marshmallow yet.
Display tester. You can use it to show a few solid colors (notably white and gray for looking for hue/tinting issues or dead pixels with other colors) and the white and black saturation are useful.
You can download a different launcher. I personally use Nova Launcher, the appearance can remain pretty much identical to the Google launcher, but it brings a hell of a lot more customization, including removing the search bar.
If you're crazy enough to try living without root then this will ease a lot of pain: Adblock Browser
Source: recently went without root for 5 days.
Not technically a wallpaper, but Tapet generates random material design wallpapers. That's what I've been using for the last few days, and it's awesome.
Aluminium 64GB, build date Nov. 5th, ordered from Google on Nov. 23rd. I used the Display Tester app to test - used a solid gray background, on which the hue was visible at all brightness levels, but it was particularly bad at lower brightness.
Other than this tinting issue, the device is flawless, which is why I'm super bummed about having to RMA.
Unfortunately, I can't unsee...
Go into a dark room, put on a pure grey background (Display Tester works well for this) and turn your brightness all the way down. This will help you see if you have pink tinting on your screen.
I would recommend using the app Nine for work accounts. It's a great mail app that sandboxes your corporate account, so the security policies only get enforced on the app rather on your whole phone. It syncs everything - mail, calendar (shows up as another calendar in the Google app), contacts, notes. I came across this looking for a solution to the same problem on my Moto X 2nd Gen and it worked like a charm.
It costs some money (you probably have $50 Google Play credits to spend anyways, right?), but is totally worth it. Have been using it for 1-2 years now and haven't looked back.
Did my own research.

I bought one of these not too long ago, and there was no problem getting it posted here (Australia).
edit: that aside, this article should be helpful
For magisk, you want to flash TWRP, after typing "fastboot reboot" hold down the power and volume down button, enter recovery, then select "install", select the magisk zip file and install. Reboot device, search for magisk on your phone open and update it (it'll prompt you automatically) and you'll be good to go.
The steps are as followed:
Download Magisk, place it on you phone.
TWRP install (fast boot method, read all the instructions first after typing "fastboot reboot" immediately hold power and volume, select "recovery" to enter TWRP or it won't stay.
in TWRP select "install", choose your Magisk Zip File, once installed reboot your phone, search & open the Magisk App, follow the inapp instructions.
Finished!
If you want to go back to stock or anything, easiest method is the Nexus Root Toolkit. It's a one click method, but the rooting method you see there uses SuperSU which causes your phone to not work with apps not friendly to root (like snapchat or Android Pay). Other than that, The Nexus Root Toolkit is a great application, which I use all the time.
Apologies if this is not what you're looking for but, this Benson-approved coil cable/adapter supports rapid charging in the car. I've got one and it works great.
I highly recommend any of the Anker brand cables Amazon. They meet the USB-C standards and are good quality.
This is the one I use and have several spares for traveling.

No, it'll never, ever work.
It's like trying to fit a truck engine on a VW Beetle.
Every ROM is tailored for the device that's build for. Even if both devices have the same specs (the do not, at all), many subsystems are different on many phones.
This is not like on a computer where you use the same Windows DVD on different machines. That's possible bc Windows uses generic drivers for many hardware and can work. Even so, you'll need the manufacturer's drivers to make the computer work properly.
So no, it will never work.
Pixel Experience has the Pixel ROM as a base but tweaked to work on other devices. The developers had to make many patches to make it boot.
Someday, Android will be more generic and you'll only need a system image to work on all devices, but we're years behind it. With Project Treble, we're close, but not that close yet.
PS: I think you need to install Google Sound Amplifier.
