That mountains with space idea sounds awesome, so i made this real quick. Hope you like it!

edit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5sqTekVEShUNGo3Wjgtcm9YRTQ/edit?usp=sharing <--- this one may or may not look better than the first one since this one uses 2 of the same resolution images and the first one is mismatched. the first link has a higher overall resolution though, so I'm keeping both of them.
edit 2: changed the links to google drive links so that imgur's compression wouldn't decrease the quality
I use muzei with the reddit extension. You can have Muzei switch your wallpaper every set interval (30 mins, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day, 2 days, etc.). You can use your photos or random art provided by Muzei. With the reddit extension, you can have a random rotation of wallpapers from different subreddits. /r/wallpapers, /r/spaceporn, /r/earthporn are some of the best ones.
If you're running xposed, install this module: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mohammadag.disablelocationconsent. BTW, it isn't showing up when you toggle GPS but when you toggle network location.
As Google Photos doesn't automatically compress already existing photos when you turn on unlimited storage, try heading to the settings page here on desktop, and hit recover storage.
It's why I switched to 500 firepaper, it switches wallpapers from 500px, I can select categories and time between changes. The wallpapers that it picks are great and always different and I don't have to manage it anymore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.firepaper.fivehundredpx
Signal. It's a nice lightweight app that uses material design. You also have the ability to send encrypted SMS/MMS to others who use the app. HD voice calling is free too! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms
got a US version in Europe, so no LTE at first.
Recently found out that I could get LTE on it, so the phone felt faster all of a sudden. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561)
Then 5.1 got released, so all those redraws are gone and don't need to restart the phone anymore.
Then, someone pointed out a camera app, that uses the new API and is fucking awesome and allows to shoot at 4K (snap camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marginz.snap)
The only thing remaining to fix is the battery and I'm considering getting a new one.
This phone just keeps on giving!
edit: fucking.
That is a pretty loaded question. The N5 should be able to hold a bunch of apps with little to no issues. Things that may contribute to lag are amount of widgets, specific app, etc. I had a bunch of apps on mine and there was a little lag on ocation. I had to factory reset my phone a few weeks ago and didn't feel like reinstalling everything so I just put the apps on my phone that I use all the time (my tablet has everything) and it is like my phone is new out of the box again. There is a good reddit article on the Android subreddit about top slowing Android apps. The only one that I really took notice of was Facebook.
Bottom line. Just install what you want and use your phone however you want. It is a good enough phone where you shouldn't notice much lag.
Article on top performance sapping apps: http://www.cnet.com/news/whats-killing-your-battery-androids-top-10-performance-sapping-apps/
Camera FV-5 is a great alternative camera app for the Nexus 5. The focus always seems on point whether it be auto focus or tap to focus. If neither of those work you can switch to manual focus and just slide up or down to set the focus yourself. You can also set all of the typical camera controls ISO/Shutterspeed/Whitebalance and shoot in RAW!
Most of the time, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. So, I use Tapet. It generates random, simple, material design wallpapers. All I have to do is pick the one that I like best. Saves me a lot of headaches.
I also have this problem since a few weeks. If you play a game, it discharges faster than it charges again. Even if it's plugged in and I'm playing some 3D game, it just stays at the same percentage.
According to Ampère the phone pulls only 250 mA with the standard 1A charger, but about 650 mA with the 1.5A charger that came with my bluetooth speakers.
If you're on Lollipop now check out Camera FV-5. full manual control, including manual focus, RAW support, relatively intuitive interface.
Actually it's as simple as dusting your print, taking a high DPI photo with a DSLR, inverting in Photoshop, and printing with a household laser printer, and dripping some latex on top. http://www.zdnet.com/apple-iphone-fingerprint-reader-confirmed-as-easy-to-hack-7000021065/
OS / radio bug. Not everyone's hitting it, but enough people are.
KitKat doesn't give you any real information as to what the GPS is doing, you just know that it's turned on and you see mapping apps misbehave.
So, there's a flood of 'I think my GPS isn't working right and I don't know why' posts.
Flashing the 4.4.1 radio fixed it for me. I have no idea why. There's a link in that thread.
I purchased a few of these inexpensive Qi chargers from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H7YP0YS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use them at the office, in my car, and on my night stand. They work REALLY well (They keep the N4 charged to 100% even after the battery fills) but for the one I use in my car it kept sliding off on bumpy roads or around sharp corners.
So I did what anyone with a CNC router would do, made my own solution! It works perfectly and looks great. I'm going to try a few other materials because the HDU foam is a little brittle and might crack under a little abuse, but the concept is sound. I went through downtown Baltimore this morning and my phone never budged. I can obviously make more of these, so would anyone be interested in picking one up? I made mine for my Nexus 4, I would just have to adjust the location of the charger hole so that it lines up with the receiver on the Nexus 5. I'm thinking of making a few out of hardwood plywood and perhaps some ABS plastic if I can find a few sheets of it thick enough.
EDIT: My case is a Ringke Slim, it doesn't affect charging.
PRODUCTION EDIT: I just ordered a big sheet of PVC plastic and bought a few lengths of oak lumber. These WILL be going into production! Watch this space for ordering info, questions, pricing, etc.
LAST EDIT: We're in business! https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtfulMachined
I was playing around with the Google camera app, and found out that you can turn the screen upside down.
Image: https://imgur.com/FgJpJRA (the front camera, earpiece and sensors are on the bottom)
Open Google Camera
Turn Nexus 5 upside down
Press home button, now my nexus 5 is upside down
To fix the rotation either: Turn screen off& on, or rotate side ways
I kind of like this rotation because it make means the top of the screen is less far, so it's easier to reach
For that last one:
>Every 90 minutes -> kill Tiny Death Star (what a battery hog)
You could just Greenify it at that point if you're rooted. Apparently it works with non-root, but I haven't tried it.
On my screen-off I have Tasker tell Greenify to force hibernate everything that is set to be hibernated.
Greenify: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
Nice write-up! Wish I had one when I first flashed something.
Here's what you could do for systemless root:
8 . Install Magisk via ADB sideload
9 . Boot
10 . Install Magisk Manager via XDA Labs, enable Magisk Hide
11 . Do whatever you couldn't with normal root, like installing Netflix from Google Play and downloading content for offline viewing
Other comments:
Check your radio and bootloader versions, you might be able to skip that step. I already had the latest from OTA marshmallow
I never use sideload, but seems like that's be handy
I have the same problem from time to time. I also don't understand why they don't make the status bar transparent like Archos does.
Try TRIM-ing the NAND (requires root)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer&hl=en_US
Highly recommend Ampere to see what current your phone is pulling. It's highly dependent on the quality of cable you use, interestingly.
The closest you could come is making a Titanium Backup then restoring after the flash. Alternatively you could make a TWRP backup as there are various apps that will restore parts of those (as opposed to the whole thing).
Camera FV-5 is amazing in my opinion. It's fast on the N5 - quick to start up and quick to shoot, has a ton of DSLR options and settings that let you fine tune your shot as much as you like, and it will take JPEG or PNG format pics while capturing RAW at the same time.
Use Titanium Backup. You can back up apps and data. Although keep in mind that a factory reset wipes internal storage also.
Sleep as Android - watches for movement on your bed during the night to record the quality of your sleep - also detects when you're already sleeping lightly (ie, not in REM sleep) and can set off your morning alarm to wake you up as gently as possible.
I can't stand the white color theme, the whole thing just looks like crap to me. I'll wait for a few update releases first anyways.
You need to disable the update service, which runs as part of Google Play Services. I used 3C Toolbox and the Xposed module that allows tweaking addition things (like this). You'll need to install the Xposed framework too, which IIRC requires root. There may be another way of doing this, but already had those tools on my phone, so...
Once in 3C toolbox:
Application Manager
Apps Tab
Google Play Services
Manage Button
Permissions Button
Services Tab
uncheck update.SystemUpdateService
.. Reboot.
Gravitybox can change many little things in almost all parts of your phone. This can be things like holding the volume buttons to skip tracks or modifying the looks of the icons in the status bar. It does lots of small things (of which some should imo be included in android anyway) and just lets you tweak your phone the way you want it. (Will update with more examples of what it can do later.)
Edit: I use gravitybox to:
And it can do much more! See here
If you use Firefox and Duck Duck Go I'm assuming you're a privacy concious person. Chrome is obviously not the answer for you. While the sync is cool, Firefox has Firefox Sync. There's not really much of a difference at that point between the major browsers and few are open source and as privacy conscious as the Mozilla team.
With that said, I run Firefox Nightly which is a couple versions ahead. You do get the occasional quirk, but it's typically fixed in the next day's update.
VPNs are a basic necessity for a foreigner living in china. Since you moved to China, you should definitely get one, just make sure they have Android service. I use Astrill, and I definitely recommend it. PM me if you want an invite (it gives me a free month).
This happened to me recently and I ended up getting it replaced via warranty. In the meantime, I found I could get it to turn on and stay on by wiggling the power button across the long axis or tapping it hard quickly and repeatedly. Then I downloaded Gravity Screen to unlock the screen via the accelerometer so that I didn't have to use the button again once I got it wiggled appropriately. The hard part is fighting your muscle memory to hit the power button to lock the screen again.
Same for me. I switched to Textra from EvolveSMS mentioned earlier and it's great! It's light, fast, easy to use and good looking. Get it at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra&hl=pl
Actually, Google purchased BlindType, an early SwiftKey competitor. As far as I know, no SwiftKey tech has never been licensed or implemented by Google.
You can enable ADB from Developer Option in Settings Tab.
Once ADB is enabled,Connect your phone to Laptop/PC and You can boot into fastboot mode or Bootloader mode using Command Prompt. You can google for ADB commands and Download ADB Drivers.
Everything can be done by ADB Commands.
Hope this Helps :)
I'll put a link for reference

This link tells the whole ordeal. But if you want a tl;dr version:
While ago, Evleaks retires due to health problems. Names TK his successor
TK setups indiegogo campaign to help out Evleaks with his ailment. Raised about $9K
TK takes money and puts in wife's account. Evleaks doesn't receive a penny. Shit starts happening.
It cost me $45 but I ordered the first wave. Now I think they are closer to $60 but I'm not sure how to order one since the indegogo campaign has ended.
Edit here's the page for it: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-air-dock
Edit 2: if they are still taking orders I'm sure they are quite backorder at this point.
Edit 3: they are still selling on their site www.theairdock.com
Switched to a budget phone. Nokia 6.1
Impressive build quality. basic hardware with stock android Oreo. Does my N5 work with half the cost.
Not sure if many custom ROMs are available for this.
From what I read, since you already turned iMessage off, what's next is to wait 30 days before Apple do another poll to your phone number and it isn't replying back, Apple will release the phone number then you can "claim" it back. But yeah I've also read that you may end up having to get a new phone number because of this.
Long read but it details out the issues and possible fixes with iMessages.
That's quite a lot of wakelocks. Try using Wakelock Detector to find which app is the culprit. Once you've figured it out, use Greenify to "hibernate" the app.
Linkme: Wakelock Detector,Greenify.
Edit: Seems like the Play Store links bot is down. Here are the links: Wakelock Detector, Greenify
Another thing you might try - I find it annoying when different mp3s have different volume levels, so I use mp3Gain to normalize the level of all my files before loading them onto my phone. Takes a few minutes..
Just to confirm, I'm assuming that when you've connected your device that you unlocked the lockscreen, correct?
Within Storage settings, tap the menu icon to bring up the options to select 'USB computer connection', such as Media Device (MTP) or Camera (PTP). You'll want to use MTP for transferring files to/from your internal SDCard.
If this doesn't help, you can use USBDeview to view and manually cleanup the USB devices associated to your phone in case it is driver related:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
It's a handy util that came bundled with Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit which helped me cleanup and correct my Android USB devices when things got messed up, for whatever reason (i.e. managing multiple Nexus 5/7 devices).
I replaced the coax cable myself, it's really easy.
Welcome aboard, brother!
1) If you don't have a reason to root, I wouldn't do it. With a Nexus device it's as straight-forward as it gets. You unlock the bootloader (necessary and wipes your device) and flash the root image. I have made good experiences with CF-Auto-Root by ChainFire.
2) What apps are you looking for? Games? Personal information manager? Other stuff?
3) You forgot 3... ;-P
4) I can't really recommend Task killers. My battery lasts about two days no matter what I do. Take a look at Greenify if you want to extend your battery life...
5) I don't know really but I've read that batteries like to stay in the 20% to 80% range....
You have all right to be excited, the Nexus 5 still is a great device!
Camera will be better on the Pixel 2, thanks to Google's image processing prowess. GSMArena's respective reviews indicate that the OP5T will have somewhat better battery life.
OnePlus has a reputation for poor customer service, if something is defective with the phone it might be harder to get a resolution. Google on the other hand has a great reputation for making things right in the event of a defect. But only if you buy it direct from Google.
Both should have a good custom ROM scene, even the OnePlus One still has official LineageOS builds available.
They also have other "perks", the Pixel 2 has waterproofing (well, water resistance) and the OnePlus 5T has a headphone jack whereas the Pixel 2 is lacking one. Pixel 2 also has a lot more bezel, which could be a consideration, but it is also slightly smaller than the 5T.
I'm creating a few versions in addition to this - specifically a version without text and one with the Paranoid Android logo. You'll see them in /r/android in the coming weeks.
Here's a download for the first one, the Google version. It's meant for the Nexus 5 but any 1080p phone should suffice.
If you have any feedback, please don't hesitate! Also, all of my Android projects will be completely free for you guys - if you like what I do please donate like ten cents or half a dollar or whatever, your support means a lot and I can keep making cool stuff for you guys!
I've had a lot of problems. Data reset all the time, not synced properly, only display the current steps after a sync... Also the web app is buggy too (cannot remove weight entries, cannot add weight like 78.5, only 78 or 79).
The idea of Google Fit is great but this app is a bit buggy so far. I would wait for an update.
I'm currently looking at the feasibility of writing a weight tracker with this new SDK because I use Google Docs and it could be interesting to know if it's a good idea.
Edit: http://fit.google.com/ is the web app but I don't know if it will be able to show data from other applications.
Edit 2: I currently have 320 steps for today (since I reset it this morning) but it shows 0 minutes of activity which is inconsistent with the number of steps.
Moto X does have the always-listening thing and a couple of other features. Nexus 5 is more powerful and the LCD screen won't burn in like AMOLED screens do. It really depends on what you're looking for in a phone.
I really wanted an LCD screen. I got Ingress burned into the screen of my Galaxy Nexus.
Didn't someone port Kali Linux (distro for network penetration testing) to Nexus 5? I'd have to find it. Maybe it could make use of that functionality.
EDIT: https://www.kali.org/kali-linux-nethunter/
Looks like it already supports frame injection though.
Personally I find using the F-Droid app easier as it handles updates. If not you can download & install from this page:
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway
As always, it's up to you whether or not you want to install APKs from third parties so just be wary - whilst F-Droid is a big name in the Android scene, something could go wrong.
Does it have to be backed up to Google+?
I've been using Dropbox and Dropsync to do that, and a few variations of that for a few of my devices for a while.
For my tablet or other devices that are limited in storage, Dropsync is set to do a "Upload then delete" sync, where it uploads any files (in this case images) from a specified folder on the phone to a specified folder in my Dropbox account, and then deletes the file from my device.
For my phone where I have more storage, I have it do an "Upload only" sync, where it uploads to Dropbox but keeps the file on my phone. Deleting the file later from my phone will not delete it from the Dropbox.
There are a ton on Amazon, I chose this one since I needed the tools and the reviews were good. I read awhile ago that the springs on the cover become compressed with time and a new cover will improve GPS signal. I got a new black one and the GPS definitely seemed better but the coating on the corners started peeling after a few weeks. I'm using this case so I thought a white cover would be fun and it would stay clean. Be really careful and take your time if it's your first time removing the cover, I really mangled my old cover. Good luck!
I am in China with a nexus 5.
Download a vpn app. use Astrill but I pay for it and you might not be willing to pay. It depends on the length of your trip.
So I recommend you to download fqrouter 2. It's a free vpn and it works fine in China.
You really need a vpn. Google works terrible without one.
Edit: stupid SwiftKey autocorrect
Originally I uninstalled FB when I had lollipop and saw improvement on battery life. I still use FB but with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en > Tinfoil for Facebook is for those users that require a Tinfoil Hat when logging in to Facebook. It creates a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
Keep in mind, you don't receive notifications like you would with the official app.
I just dealt with this last week on My N5. After a bit of research I came across this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
The page I was reading said that outside, I should have 4 bars hitting at least 30 for the GPS to be accurate. The signal I was getting was very poor. The GPS antenna is on the back plate of the phone and apparently wasn't making good contact with the phone. I followed the instructions here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBpNtWvY454
Immediately my GPS was performing much better.
Same here, no time loss to be seen. I got nervous though and installed ClockSync just in case. I can't afford to miss my morning alarm.
If you have a camera and an OTG USB cable, you can get DSLR Controller and use it to remotely control your camera. It can also act as an external display, so if you like to do video but your screen doesn't swivel, you can mount your phone in the hot shoe mount and you have much more flexibility there.
There are many ways to do that. If your phone is rooted, or has a custom kernel or ROM, you have many options. If your phone is completely stock, you still have solutions, but they're limited. Gravity Screen is pretty good for if you're completely stock, and there are more options like double tap to wake and volume button wake if you're rooted.
PSA: Cerberus Anti-Theft is the best app available for recovering or finding your device and everyone should have it installed. It takes pictures when wrong lock codes are entered, you can set custom passwords and wipe device data and tons more features! At the very least, everyone should have Android Device Manager installed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
My power button started screwing up just after warranty. It'll "stick" and reboot my phone many many times. I've tried everything but the only work around is to use Gravity Screen.
Aside from that (and memory leak issues with Lollipop), I'm happy with the phone and don't see a need to replace it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en
Best one is Utter. It has compatibility with a range of popular apps to let you customise commands to your preference. Otherwise, it has a great set of default commands as well.
My preferred to-do app is Wunderlist. A pleasing simplistic interface, convenient reminder features, and excellent cross-platform support (Android, iOS, Mac, and web) make it an ideal choice.
Devs aren't really paying customers, though. Indirectly by promoting the platform and indirectly through 30% commission from sales.
A small company with 30 accounts pays Google $120/mo and probably only contacts support a couple of times per year and don't require highly trained support staff. Devs are going to ask much more technically demanding questions and would have to sell $400 in apps per month to match the $120 revenue for the small business.
I know this is apples and oranges, but economics probably still explains it. Most app developers probably aren't making Google enough to justify quality support. 98% of Play Store Revenue comes from Freemium apps. Store. I bet SuperCell gets good support...
link? I'm planning on getting a nexus 5 when i switch to sprint at the end of june and I'd love a good battery backup combo like this
Edit: nevermind, I googled it because i decided not to be lazy. for the other lazies like me
Ouch. I would do this as well. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26294258/auto-boot-when-wall-charger-is-plugged First fastboot command. Then immediately run fastboot reboot, and hope you never need to test it.
try this NetStrength xposed module. It will display real information about signal strength. Do not think there's a way to get better signal.
Looking at the iFixit teardown replacing the sim socket doesn't look like an easy fix unfortunately, as it's soldered on to the main board
i've been using every kernel with lux. there has never been a problem. maybe your particular sensor is wonky. lux has a debug menu where you can see what the sensor is reading in real time. check it out.
here's my lux profile. try it out.
I've written out a massive comment above you might also be interested in.
RAM cleaners are counter-productive on Android and will drain battery faster without actually improving performance. If a pesky app won't go away (I'm looking at you shitty Facebook app), the better thing to do is use Greenify to put it to sleep so it doesn't keep waking the phone or accessing your location in the background (few apps will need you to do this).
I personally don't think there's a significant enough risk to warrant installing an anti-virus. The more important thing to keep in mind is that there are plenty of malicious apps on the market and you should be careful not to install a harmful app yourself.
There are some Xposed mods that simulate a reachability-type mode, but AFAIK they only exist on KitKat. The one I used was called "One-Handed Mode" in Xposed.
The screen will get shrunk down however you dictate, and will something Like this
man GravityBox is a module for Xposed framework by rovo89 (XDA forum Senior recognised developer). rovo89 designed/developed xposed for people who does not want to flash custom ROM's but what to have custom rom features on stock ROM.
Take a look at this - http://repo.xposed.info/
Recently, rovo89 announced xposed support for Android Lollipop. Its kind of a big thing because till then it was only supported on KitKat and earlier versions of android.
you may ask why is it so big? - Most of xposed users never upgraded to Lollipop. they decided to stick with KitKat because Xposed framework was not ported to Lollipop until a day ago.
I assume you're not using Hangouts as your default SMS application, otherwise you'd know that through hangouts you can make calls as well as send and receive SMS and MMS through your gvoice number.
First off, Cyanogen actually has an app on the Play Store called CM App Installer, that lets you install certain apps that were previously only available on CM here. I was never able to really get it to work, though, so your mileage may vary.
Secondly, if you use the Xposed Framework, someone made a module called XVoice+. seen here, that is supposed to mimic the functionality of CM's Voice+. This is what I used to use prior to the voice/hangouts merger.
You can also go the Xposed route. Gives you a LOT of the features of custom ROMS while using stock Android.
You obviously have to be rooted for XPosed to work. Then, install Xposed and GravityBox.
Xposed Installer is here, GravityBox is here (can also be installed through XPosed's module listing)
Best decision I ever made!
If using Xposed framework is an option, there is a module that can do all of that, GravityBox. GravityBox is basically the only module I use and it's really the best overall one in my opinion, it allows for a ton of customization all over the phone.
Link to GravityBox
Download TWRP recovery from here: https://twrp.me/devices/lgnexus5.html and flash it with fastboot.
Then try to flash the kernel again. If still on bootlood, try to factory reset from TWRP (under wipe, if memory serves).
If that doesn't help, download factory image (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images) and flash that with fastboot, then flash TWRP and then kernel again.
Beware, reflashing stock will wipe your whole phone.
I would advise you against using clockworkmod recovery, I don't know if it's even developed anymore. TWRP seems to be working much more smoothly.
I turned it sideways since it's almost the perfect resolution that way already. There are a lot of effects and stuff, and I'm not a photoshop guru, so it looks terrible if I keep it horizontal and stretch it out tall. If you like it, let me know, I'll upload the .zip.
Android Lost. It's not pretty, but can do so much more than device manager including remotely taking pictures, finding the location, play audible messages, remote wipe, call forwarding, email notification of SIM card changes, call list, etc. Oh, and you don't even need to have it installed on the phone. You can push the app to your device via text message. It's also free.
I got the "Euhan 2400mAh Rechargeable Li-Polymer Battery BL-T9 Replacement for LG Google Nexus 5 D820 D821 + Repair Replacement Kit Tools" from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078SJKPJ9). I agree that reviews were mixed, i.e. no one had 4.5 stars or above. I read the one star and two star reviews and noticed that most were complaints about the tools, either being cheap or hard to use or they didn't know how to open a phone. I've opened a few phones/tablets by now, so I wasn't worried about the quality of the tools.
That said, I actually really liked the tools that came with it. I think the screwdriver that came with it is my new favorite screwdriver.
Actually, I've tried doing "astrophotography" with N5 a couple months ago.
Here's what the setup looked like.
I've used Manual Camera for the exposure, MF and the like.
Couple things
Here's my thread on WiFi battery drain.. you might be able to find some help in here. I just made some changes to the phone yesterday so I haven't seen results just yet.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/3xls4l/i_hate_to_add_to_the_bad_battery_threads_but_my/
Also on charging issues, I'd double check the MaH on the charger... I have so many laying around the house that work, sure, but are lower power and therefore charge slower, ya know. Maybe this app would be worth checking out to measure that kind of thing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere
Nexus 5 is one of those few phones that are packed with enormous amount of sensors, and pedometer is one of them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.pedometer
This app was written specifically for Nexus 5 and it uses built in pedometer, so it doesn't drain battery.
Haha, no worries.
I've been having issues with my nexus over the last few days so and in my looking around I'd seen reference to an app that unlocked using volume buttons.
There are also ones that use the gyroscopes and stuff for it called Gravity screen. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en
Not without an app, no. But it was only necessary to enable (or disable) it.

It was already there, just hidden and with this app you can enable the setting and after restarting it will show up. Now as you already posted how with 6.0 it's also possible without an app.. and without restarting.
This has been one of my biggest gripe with the N5 (aside from it dying on me). I started using manual camera. It seems to be working a bit better.
Awesome! Congrats on the phone shipping! Did you get a notification or did you check manually.
This App is fantastic for backing up your phone texts. Depending on what phone youre coming from there are native Apps by the manufacturers too. Like my Moto X has Motorola Migrate.

Yeah, you can set the color and transparency of the search bar using Xposed GEL Settings (Play store link and XDA page).
If you make the search bar color toward the white end of the spectrum and transparent you get the new colored text as shown. If you move it to the black end, even if it's still fully transparent the Google text turns white. Currently the microphone is always colored, but I'm hoping that will be controllable in the future for users that don't like it. With most other themes I would prefer to not have the colors.
If you're worried about reminders for meds, I currently use this app which is superb. I can't recommend using it enough, is perfect for what it is designed for.
If you're rooted and use StickMount it should work without a hitch.
hold the volume down button while plugging the usb cable then do "fastboot reboot"
gravity screen is also usually good to have and it doesn't drain too much battery like double tap to wake
Download Catlog. Google Play Link
You can choose to record and instantly write to a .txt file, if your phone reboots, you may find the app/service/.. that causes it at the end of this file.
See if you can figure out what the NFC tag should read and then get a tool like this one to read your tag and make sure that the tag was properly programmed. That would be my best guess. Let us know if that doesn't do it!
The NFC code may be online somewhere or that might be a dead-end search I just send you on, I'm not sure. Someone else might have a better suggestion. Your case, if you're using one, may also be to blame, so try going without that if you've got one on.
Yeah, by default HellsCore is set to 90C, and Kernel Adiutor doesn't seem to show 'Temperature throttle' with my current setup. so i've had to use 2 different Kernel Apps, i'm not too happy about that :(
First thing that you need to do is install a launcher. Check out Nova Launcher, it's one of the best launchers and the free version has everything that you need. Your launcher is the app that your phone opens when you hit the home button (it's your homescreen).
Once you install the launcher, open up Min and go to the Apply section in the drawer. From there click on Nova Launcher and you should be set.

Okay. It's weird, and I'm not too sure.
My sister's OnePlus One had it. I got jealous and desperate and wanted it as well.
So, I started downloading calculator apps and kept checking my widgets menu to see if I got that widget or not. I did it like I was on coke or something.
Turns out you have to restart your phone (perhaps only your launcher?) for the widgets to show.
So, after a restart, I had tons a couple of widgets, and many more calculator apps.
I set the widget you see there, and started uninstalling apps, then got bored or whatever.
Anyway, I still have a few calculator apps and that widget.
So, maybe its:
Or CALCU™ Stylish Calculator Free
Mostly, it is CyanogenMod.
That reminds me, I gotta delete myself some calculator apps.
:)
Have you tried A Better Camera Free/A Better Camera Unlocked
IMO ABC's Super Mode is better than stock HDR+ when it comes to low light & night time
But I still use HDR+ in good lighting conditions
Also Super Mode is great for zooming, e.g. if I'm in the back of the lecture room and can't see well
Also has pretty good manual controls and RAW DNG output, but I'm too lazy to edit manually since Super Mode does a good enough job for me
