A polar vortex is a large pocket of very cold air, typically the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere, which sits over the polar region during the winter season.
The frigid air can find its way into the United States when the polar vortex is pushed farther south, occasionally reaching southern Canada and the northern Plains, Midwest and northeastern portions of the United States.
A large, powerful high pressure system originating in the Eastern or Western Pacific and stretching to the North Pole is required to displace the pocket of cold air.
"These high pressure systems can reach Alaska, but it is not typical to stretch all the way to the North Pole," according to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.
The vortex is capable of delivering subzero temperatures to the United States and Canada for several days at a time.
When the strong air from the Eastern or Western Pacific weakens and falls apart, the polar vortex will retreat into place near the North Pole.

The actual article (if you can even call it that, it’s really just a paragraph followed by a collection of anonymous quotes) does refer to “plus-sized men”.
Also some of the women refer to themselves as “overweight”. They also mostly refer to “big” or “bigger” men.
But let’s get all worked up over the title and make sweeping generalizations about women.
Daniel Kahneman explains this really well in his book Thinking, Fast and Slow. He divides consciousness into two separate "systems". System 1, which is lazy and gives the intuitive answers to simple questions, a lot of which don't even make it into your perceived consciousness and system 2, which is what you could think of as your actual - slower but more precise - thought process.
The answer 50 is a typical system 1 response. You see 4 and 2, and realize the question is about how these numbers relate to each other. The first thing that pops up is that 2 is half of 4, so the answer must be half of 100.
When actually thinking about the question involving "system 2", and how these numbers are meant to relate to each other, it becomes obvious that this isn't the right answer.
So these people actually just read the question and posted the first thing that came to mind, without considering that it might be a trick question. Still stupid to actually post this, but the answer itself is a natural first response.
One way to make people more likely to answer this question correctly on the first try would be to use a number that is less intuitive to divide into two than 100. Your system 2 would get involved right away because your system 1 can't divide, say, 86 into two right on the spot and the rest of the soltution would be less likely to be the intuitive response.

It can be. There was a test done awhile back where someone uploaded a video to YouTube. Then downloaded it. Uploaded the download and repeat. What ended up happening was the compression that happens every time a file is uploaded started to distort the image until after a couple thousand times it was just a blur of colors and mashed up sound. If I find a link I'll post it. Pretty neat stuff though.
Amazon is annoying with how accommodating they are.
I was looking at the reviews/instructions for an Octonauts tub toy I bought my kids. I checked on amazon where I bought it and it had different instructions and a slightly different look/feel to it. I looked a bit further and found that there were two different versions of the toy. I think it was a UK version and a US version.
We received the US version, but all the documentation on their site was showing the UK version. The US version was better... I forget the difference but it squirted differently or something. I sent Amazon a message just letting them know I was completely happy with the toy but that their site has the wrong info.
They refunded me like 50% of the purchase price back (which was only like $3-4) and apologized for the wrong description.
This is what we bought/received: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJD49UW/

22 years as a police officer. I have taken plenty of reports.
If you have done time, you would know that the number of reports would be very low compared to the number of incidents.
You would also know that there is very high "pressure" to engage in male on male sex, with the underlying threat of violence.
You would also have heard the phrase "gaol sex doesn't count".
I don't know how many times they would say, "gaol seX doesn't count chief".
There is also an excellent book written on the topic by am acquaintance of mine, Magistrate David Heilpern (NSW).

it is expected. According to Dr. Daniel Kahneman who introduced the notion of "Fast Thinking" part of the brain and "Slow Thinking" he explained the reasoning behind this behavior. Basically, it requires more resources for the brain to process logical query. E.g. try to calculate a simple problem:
21 * 36 = ?
Measure how much time it took you to solve it. Then try to solve something very similar:
21 * 48 = ?
But this time try to walk quickly around the room (or jogging) while calculating. In this process, your fast part of the brain will be utilized and it will try to take over your slow part since your main task is physical activty. It will definitely impair your solving process and it will take you slightly more time to come up with the solution. Another example of activation of slow thinking can be seen in the following example:
Calculate: 8 * 2 + 3 = ? This should be very ez for the brain, so Slow Thinking is NOT REQUIRED.
Calculate: 82 * 33 + 1867 = ? NOW you kick off your "slow thinking" part of the brain! :) Your pupils will dilate, you will stop doing any other mundane tasks and fully commit in complicated mathematical process.
His book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" is phenomenal. I highly reccomend it to self educate yourself about our brains.

Concerts are one of the loudest events a person can attend, right up there with a shuttle launch or having a gun fired very close to them, but for hours at a time.
A car's engine doesn't make nearly as much noise as a concert.
https://www.webmd.com/brain/tc/harmful-noise-levels-topic-overview
According to this chart, a concert is 120-130 dB, whereas a car is only around 80 db (actually, that's for traffic, meaning a single car is a lot quieter).
Also, keep in mind that decibels act on a logarithmic scale, which means that every 10 dBs is actually twice as loud. So your average concert is 16-32 times louder than traffic.

But the concept isn’t far off what church themselves did. Basically they sold tickets to heaven called indulgences. You paid the church to expunge sins.

Hi there, yes flu vaccines are usually a yearly thing. Editing to add in a good article from mayo clinic. I'm going to copy what I said to someone with a similar question:
In my opinion, it's always a good thing to get your flu shot to help with herd immunity (even if it's hit or miss with flu shots). I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge can chime in.
In my case, the one year I didn't get the flu shot I got the flu (this was before my immune system was compromised) and it was bad enough for me to swear I'd never miss it again. Now I definitely encourage everyone to get it to help protect the many many many people like me with compromised immune systems.
It reminds me of this time when I was participating in a 'professional development' course (*sigh, it was everything you can imagine). We had homework to look into iconic people. This guy spoke about Sun Tzu. He was appalled that Sun Tzu had written a book called The Art of War, because 'war is ugly and how could you even say there is art in it'. Everyone who had read the book was like... that's really not what it's about.
I would copy and paste the whole article here but I checked and that's against their terms unfortunately. Get a free subscription from TunnelBear or NordVPN or wherever and access the site. It's basically just a short story of a women who found a textbook in Texas schools telling students that slaves were workers from Africa who came to work and some white people from Europe were brought over as indentured servants to work for little or no pay. But that description was not worthy enough to be applied to black slaves from Africa who were not immigrants but were forced to come to the American continent to build up a country exclusively for white people.
Exact quote from the textbook:
"The Atlantic Slave Trade between the 1500s and 1800s brought millions of workers from Africa to the southern United States to work on agricultural plantations."
Exact quote from a video where a woman is complaining:
"These are some other sections that ... talk about the pattern of immigration. This section here in particular talks about English and European peoples, 'many of whom came as indentured servants to work for little or no pay.' So they say that about English and European people, but there is no mention of Africans working as slaves or being slaves. It just says we were workers."
This site has 53% of Reddit traffic coming from the US
This one says 43%, with the next-highest about 7%
So maybe not a majority, but certainly a hell of a lot more than any other single country. My point still stands, this pic is on this sub because a hell of a lot of Reddit users are American. I don't know why everyone's so butthurt that I pointed it out when someone literally said "I don't get it." I'm was just trying to help someone understand something they asked about.

Are you referring to the UK, US or Canadian release?
I'm confused, because I hve a third edition paperback (UK release) and can't remember the picture
Edit: Ah, I found out wherethe confusionmight stem from "first edition" paperbacks were printed from 1997 through 201 (the year wen the first movie was relased.
I see this from time to time, so let's do a little analysis. My numbers are coming from this paper (see page 20 for numbers). For words with a character range of 5-9 you have 63792 different words (according to the previously linked paper). Lets round that down to 50000 fairly conservative estimate.
Using 4 words will make that 50000^4 combinations. That's 6250000000000000000 (6.25 * 10^18 ) combinations. Converting that to bits (4*ln(50000)/ln(2)) gives me 2^62.4385... combinations, or the equivalent of 62 bits. Thats not too bad for 4 words for a person to remember.
Let's say there are 80 characters you can use for passwords on the standard US keyboard (this probably isn't true, but let's give it some liberties). And let's say you use a super secure password of 10 characters. That's pretty hard to brute force. This website suggests that the password given in the xkcd comic will take ~4000 years to brute force (although it is 11 characters long). Following the same calculations I gave before I get 63 bits (which, by the way is the same number you get if you use the numbers given by the paper I linked). 1 bit difference, for something (potentially) much harder for a human to remember.
As a side note: If you instead use each character (as in the attacker doesn't know you've done this), you get 94 bits for 20 letters (4 5 letter words). That's easy for you to remember. The ease of the user is much more important in my mind.
Tariffs were strongly opposed by Southern Politicians and consequently they were also at their lowest in decades leading up to the Civil War. It was only when Southerners began resigning their offices and walking out when their states seceded that tariffs were raised in retaliation.
Edit: Tariff of 1857 if you need some proof of this.

You might have misinterpreted that post. I think the original poster didn't intend to claim that they weren't people. Notice how "a people" is used instead of just "people". According to dictionary.com, people can also mean: >the entire body of persons who constitute a community, tribe, nation, or other group by virtue of a common culture, history, religion, or the like:
>the people of Australia; the Jewish people.

No. It's a rumour spread by the west so you use American made anti-malware programs so that they can access your data.
Here's the truth - even if Russia had put a backdoor into Kaspersky it'd be no different than literally every big name American anti-virus. Your data (unfortunately) is being passed on and used constantly whether you like it or not.
At the end of the day Kaspersky has scored the highest consistently on performance, reliability and security. It's joint first with Bitdefender with VIPRE coming in second Source.
I wish I was being paid for this but I'm not so here's my genuine, personal 'review' - Kaspersky has almost never slowed down my PC even when doing things such as full scans and other shit like that. It's constantly found threats almost instantly whenever they're on my PC (although that is rarely because of Common Sense^TM). The ONE time I've ever had a severe virus on my PC it completely took control, reverted the changes done to files, fixed everything and then restarted with a detailed report of what happened.
The downsides of Kaspersky? It's Russian - scary. Except it's not but I can't tell you how to live your life. The actual downside? Large Windows updates can cause incompatibilities and ultimately a few BSOD's. The blue screens are not bad at all though and do not harm your PC - it's Windows response to finding an important, low-level driver that it feels is broken or could cause damage. Although I admit there shouldn't be BSOD's at all and that's absolutely Kaspersky's fault for not fixing issues before updates are pushed through to W10. Other than that it can sometimes be annoying to use the UI but I can't name much else.

>Democracy, literally, rule by the people. The term is derived from the Greek dēmokratiā, which was coined from dēmos (“people”) and kratos (“rule”) in the middle of the 5th century bc to denote the political systems then existing in some Greek city-states, notably Athens.
From Encyclopedia Britannica. You elect representatives that excercise power on your behalf. Rule by the people.
>Republic, form of government in which a state is ruled by representatives of the citizen body. Modern republics are founded on the idea that sovereignty rests with the people
Also from Encyclopedia Britannica, which then goes on to say.
>Because citizens do not govern the state themselves but through representatives, republics may be distinguished from direct democracy, though modern representative democracies are by and large republics
Also Merriam-Webster's definition of democracy is:
>a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
Now, do I agree the people really have power in the decision making process in the States? Nah, not really - it's far more complicated than that. But your nation fits the definition of democracy, regardless. Cmon dude, I'm not even American, I'm Canadian. You guys should know this shit.

Ok, you seem to misunderstand the difference between positive and negative rights
https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_and_positive_rights
Think of it like if you're on an island with one other person. You have the right for them to not hurt your person or property. You do not have the right to force them to work for you even if you think that thing is as important as healthcare and the other person is a doctor.
Anything where someone else has to work cannot be a negative right
Regarding healthcare, no I don't think it's good that's why I donate a lot of my time to charity care. I don't only work for people who pay
Also, it takes a lot to make a hospital or clinic run. Doctors, nurses, janitors, cooks, it, admin, etc. They will not work for free. They can either work for consumers and be incentivized to try and convince them to come or they can work for the government where they are incentivized to get the government to pay them more. It's the way the world works with any profession.
You don't think food should be a government run business do you? People literally need to eat to survive

It really depends. Changes to the color of urine can be due to many factors, but hydration is a common one. Dark urine is more frequently seen as a sign of serious illness than clear urine. The Mayo Clinic has a quick article if you’re interested - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/urine-color/symptoms-causes/syc-20367333
I heard a segment on Adam Ruins Everything saying similar things about the rarity of dehydration and such, but thought that sounded off, so I looked into it and have found very little to back that up. The vast majority of studies seem to say that many people are mildly dehydrated (but not necessarily dangerous) and that children and the elderly especially are at higher risk for severe dehydration. Overhydration is potentially very dangerous, but it’s far rarer than dehydration.

EDIT: On page 2 (https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/youareanidiot.org#page-2) a user says,
"This is a defunct ex-malware popup website. It used to use javascript to pop up windows with the smiling face GIF and play the "You are an idiot" sound repeatedly which bounced around the screen, but it was removed. Now, all you see is a smiley face GIF, so it's safe. Be careful, though. There's no telling when it can be readded. "
This was written in 2014 whereas most of the negative comments were written in 2008-2013.
90% sure this picture is fake. Looked everywhere for it on amazon under every term, and the only one I can find that matches the picture is this one
OP took the screencap yesterday as well, because it says "Tomorrow, 19th May" on it.
Here’s a quick and dirty picture. Sadly my AirPods are at home, so no reference today.
Amazon Link to the accessory kit that had them
Only real down side is the the AirPods holder is a little looser than the band, and will shift when putting the headphones in/out.
I was of this opinion too but This argument failed today.
Here is my case:
An elder guy posted a message on whatsapp group of my housing society
:"Install this app on Android and check you blood oxygen levels, heart rate , vision, hearing and mental well-being by scanning your finger through camera lens"
Many replied saying it's impossible and you should Google first
He said .. I did and here is the result, he showed the app description from 'google playstore'
Adding "see it's on Google only.."
('only' means ' itself' in india when you add this word at the end) "And it works for me"
At this point I installed that app and explained politely that it shows same results on wood and plastic for heaetrate and blood oxy levels. After which he went on radio silence
----------------------+---+
As u see there are people making complete use of technology to spread lies.
Here is the app if anyone is interested. Please vote down if possible as many in the comments praise how this app is like a lifesaver with so many tests done in your phone (It's trending number one in india on playstore')

I think one of the problems we have encountered with capitalism is that by allowing a free market you have to also allow the abuse of said market.
I believe Adam Smith, famous economist and author of "The Wealth of Nations", argued that to combat this at least some government regulation is required to stop the rich and powerful from blocking the lower classes ability to move upwards.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
What the fuck man. I posted a link with the price of Macbooks. Is that hard to look up some PC's?
There ya go. In comparison to the Mac I mentioned before....Bigger screen. More ram. Bigger Hdd. Same processor. $900 less.
It took me less than 15 seconds to find that this picture is full 3D...

All you have to do to get dual citizenship with Italy is to provide some kind of documentation that proves that you have at least one ancestor who was an Italian citizen. More information here
