"I was playing around with stuff I didn't understand and factory reset my phone while ignoring lots of warnings. Is there any way to recover data?" There, that wasn't hard.
No, you're not going to recover anything from the phone. With a Nexus 6 the factory reset process wipes the existing filesystem encryption key and generates a new random one. The old data that was on the phone is now just random garbage as far as the running OS and any other tool you might use to access it are concerned. There is no way around this by design.
You might be lucky and have managed to turn on photo backup without knowing since it seems you don't pay attention to prompts. Open https://photos.google.com/ from a PC and see if they're synced there.
Take each item out of your wallet and tap it to the back of the phone. If none of them trigger it, try the empty wallet itself.
Once you've found the item with a tag, try NFC TagInfo to see if you can learn more about it.
Gonna be frank with you dude. All of those issues were being talked about all over the internet more than a year ago.
While I understand you qualm here is that you feel that there have been no updates to address these issues, note that at the time of your purchase (if approx 1 year ago) google was already focused on the 6p and 5x. This the ecosystem of the smartphone market. Old hardware becomes less supported while new hardware becomes the focus for development.
The lesson you should be walking away with here is that you shouldn't buy an older model phone before first realizing that the issues it has may very well never be fixed, and you should be researching your purchases (if they matter this much to you) before you make them.
As a side note, good 3rd party camera apps fix the issue with the stock camera being so terrible. Don't get me wrong, there's only so much an app can really do with the hardware it's given, but Camera FV-5 and Open Camera work better than stock for sure. N also apparently fixes a lot of the throttling issues and improves overall battery performance. As for the speaker volume issue, I've never run into it, so I don't know what to tell you there other than there is a wealth of information at your fingertips and there are likely workarounds of some nature out there, you only need to seek them out.
Android doesn't like the captive portal they have. If you click the 3 dot menu on the lock screen you get and choose "Use network as is" then you can open a browser and actually get to the login page (but it does not save this option you have to do it each time, so silly). This captive portal crap is the worst feature of Android 5 and I wish there was a way to turn it off :(
I've been using this program to just automate the captive portal login, only one that works in Lollipop that I have found: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidyou.wifiloginnew
This will vary from OS to OS. On Kubuntu 16.10, sudo apt install android-tools-adb
. I believe you can also simply download Android Studio to get a copy.
These are available for all Nexus and Pixel devices directly from Google. If you have the Nexus 6, you're looking for 'shamu', 7.1.1.
As a quick test to be sure it's in ADB mode, issue a quick adb devices
. Should return your phone's info, or possibly pop up an auth prompt on your phone first.
That page I linked in step 3 has instructions at the top.
adb reboot recovery
.adb sideload shamu-ota-n6f26q-f4492864.zip
.one of the best cables I've ever used is the anker powerline+ its kevlar beamed and has steel renforced heads on both ends, i cut one open and can attest to the realiability on ankers amazon page, ill link below if anyones interested

I'm running both of these on my phone...
The latest version from ES File Explorer is full of bloatware. The app has a wide variety of advertisements and "cleaners".
I am running version 4.0.2.3. No bloatware and it's the latest version released by ES Global without bloatware.
You can download 4.0.2.3 here, and then use zipsigner to prevent it from updating. Zipsigner does not require root en sign the APK with your own private key.
After you have installed it, it will ask if it's allowed to auto-update. Select no auto updating and your done :) This update has the latest material design.
Here you go. This is my current setup. It is a KLWP made by a user over in /r/androidthemes.
You can find the KLWP skin here.
i been using Tapet and i have a really hard time settling on something to replace it.
Really nice pattens and color combinations and you can set it to cycle through random design combinations of your liking as well.
I'm not sure if something like Nova Launcher will allow for this on stock Android. As for myself when I'm looking at the quick toggles there is one there to lock into portrait/allow for auto-rotate. Silent mode is a point of contention in Lollipop, if you press your volume button you'll get options for None, Priority and All. None is essentially silent mode but it will mean your alarm won't notify you.
Nova Launcher (among others) have a lot of customisations for your home screen and also the app drawer, definitely check it out. Play Store Link!
Don't think so but if I'm in the pull down menu looking at notifications then that's what I'm focused on, personally never considered what the other part of the screen looks like when I'm dealing with the notification shade.
Make sure in the Google Play store settings you've selected auto update by WiFi only (though I'm sure you already have). Personally I've never had that same issue you did. I too have hit update on an app only to see it is a large update and have hit stop. From my experience what happened to you is not normal.
I don't use DoublTwist personally so I can't help with those points I'm afraid, though I'm pretty sure DoubleTwist have a desktop client, perhaps that would help?
I can say that Google Play Music both on the web and on the device I've had an easy time making playlists there.
I don't know which messaging app you use but I use this for Google's messenger. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
It will back up all text messages and call logs into an XML file. Then you can move those to a flash drive or computer. Then when the time comes all you have to do is drop it in the new phone and restore it from that app again.
I'm not sure if it will work with other texting apps however (like Viber or hangout). So make sure to do a little research on how to backup those specific apps.
I use Signal. It's encrypted messaging and it has SMS fallback. It's everything I need. It's also faster than Messenger (Google default) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms
Flashfire is an app by Chainfire, the same guy that does SuperSU. Use it to install the OTA updates, from here. Don't unroot, install, reroot. That's just to much headache. The app will do everything for you automatically. You shouldn't even have to change any of the default settings unless you've done something strange. I've used it for the last two monthly updates after flashing manually with NRT before.
Holy shit dude. Why do you need more than 16 tabs at one time open? Never mind, I don't want to know.
Have you tried a private browser like Frost? You can bookmark your NSFW stuff and then it's locked. If you pull up the browser, it just looks like a normal browser with no history or whatever, you put your password in the address bar and it unlocks everything.
You can use SMSBackup and Restore to backup your MMS and SMS messages. And use Helium Backup To backup your apps and data.
> I wish the camera had more options. The google camera is too simplified.
Manual Camera is amazing, I recommend checking it out!
Youtube is hosted on Google Global Cache nodes (https://peering.google.com/about/ggc.html) at many ISPs. You may be routed to one of those that isn't accessible from your current location for some reason.
Gmail avoids GGC and goes straight to Google's nearest datacenter. You can see the difference by using a traceroute app like he.net Network Tools (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.he.networktools) and running a traceroute to www.youtube.com vs mail.google.com.
You can't fix the broken routing, but changing the nameservers your wifi router uses will likely avoid the use of your ISP's GGC. Try using Google's nameservers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or Level 3's 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 instead and see if that helps.
True silent mode- just lower the volume one past vibrate and you get silent mode like you had pre-LP
Gesture navigation- use it for just one gesture, slide down on the right edge for back, very useful on a phone as big as the N6
I'm going to drive mine until it's completely dead... LineageOS. I've been running it on a Nexus 5, OnePlus One, and a Nexus 10 since they became available. They've got the latest patches from Google. They all work like new.
I'm running this: https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=n6stock
Which is monitoring a bunch of expected release locations, and should send you a notification within seconds of the release.
I did the same thing last year with a ton of success.
Turn off Bluetooth and wifi, also reduce your screen brightness.
I have a battery I can plug into my phone that will keep it running all day. If you are playing that much, it would be worth considering. Anker has a 20,000 mAh batter on sale at Amazon for $40. This is twice the rating as my battery so it should keep you going for a long time.

There are several custom roms that have this feature built in. But you might already know this.
I've been using SMS Backup+ for a few years now. It backs up to your Gmail with a custom label. I think SMS is the default. Makes it nice because you can search all your SMS messages from gmail. You can also create Gmail filters to add more labels to help sort out messages.

No the Nexus 6 has Ambient Display. Active Display which I believe has been renamed Moto Display is Motorola's version, which actually shipped on the 2013 version of the Moto X. They have made some slight tweaks to it over the year(s), but it is largely the same. Google when playing with the Nexus 6, I guess decided it would be a neat idea to have an Active Display of sorts for their phone since it uses an AMOLED screen. Google, then made their version of it and pushed it onto the N6.
> Don't they only sell the glass with the lcd display in a kit/bundle?
Here, for example. A steal, compared to the outrageous prices for screen/LCD assemblies. But also a million times more likely to fuck up the screen.
You are assuming these issues even exist. How many real people actually have a Nexus 6 at this point? The shops posting reviews are doing so on what very well may be demo units on non-final hardware/software. We just don't know at this point. All we know is that the press embargo was lifted.
I'm not making excuses but I'm also not going to rush to judgement either. No one put a gun to anyone's head and said you need to make a $700 decision right now. Anyone daring enough to blow $700 on a phone they've never touched, felt or demoed is taking one hell of a chance. I guarantee the costs of restocking returned phones is real to Google and if the hardware was poorly designed they will get the message when they are returned.
While I agree the "preorder" system could completely have been a true preorder system, it's like everyone is living in a bubble and completely forgetting that in the real world there is a massive problem with US ports at the moment that is drastically impacting all imports. If I had to guess, the Nexus 6 launch is a casualty of this but come this holiday season anyone in the US is going to feel the real effects of this. You can read just one of many articles about it here.
What's UNACCPETABLE is that our country has lost the ability to manufacture technology and we're nearly completely reliant on foreign countries to produce these sweet gadgets we need so desperately to privately fap to porn in our bathrooms.
Here you go (assuming you have the sdk and know how to use adb): Download the factory image. There is another zip in that file called "image-shamu-lrx22c.zip"

The whole idea of net neutrality is that a bit is a bit. You shouldn't care where it comes from or where it is going.
I run a madsonic server from my house that streams my music to my phone. Does that count as music streaming? How does T-Moblie know that traffic is music and shouldn't count?
This get tricky for T-Mo because they don't mind if people are streaming music. But they don't want people cancelling there home internet and overloading their network.
Rock meet hard place.
Mobile has been a big point of Vulkan from the beginning. Even the headline on their website points that out
> Vulkan is a new generation graphics and compute API that provides high-efficiency, cross-platform access to modern GPUs used in a wide variety of devices from PCs and consoles to mobile phones and embedded platforms.
https://www.khronos.org/vulkan/
The reason you don't see games for it yet is because it's pretty much brand new and game engines have yet to fully implement it to a production state. Valve is working on it with Source 2, Unreal Engine is working on it, Unity is working on it. It's also incredibly complicated, and even veteran OpenGL developers are struggling with it.. it just needs time for the community to adapt to it and develop.
Only a few games support it so far, and all are still experimental. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_Vulkan_support
Once the big engines get support, we'll be seeing lots of games built on it.
I use the Ampere app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere&hl=en).
Also, while a cable may technically allow for QC, it may be under-engineered. I've never had issues, and a lot of safeguards would have to fail, but I figure it's worth mentioning that the really sketchy stuff can be dangerous.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor
Auditor kernel will generally work with both. Generally you dont need it though since the kernels are geared toward the best settings (EX kernel is set up during the installation process while Franco has a default setting upon installation)
I have used many custom Roms and kernels in the past, and that definitely helped, but right now I am actually on stock DP5. I do have Snapchat installed, and instead of the official Facebook app I use Swipe for Facebook. Other than that I don't really do anything else to keep it running smooth, I guess I just got lucky.
Muzei is the defacto standard I belive. It's free and it supports plugins, so add a plugin for whatever tickles your fancy.
When I'm not using that, I use Tapet because it generates lovely wallpapers. I paid the tiny fee for the Pro version and don't regret it all. Tapet will work standalone or as a plugin to Muzei.
Kustom Live Wallpaper Maker! Really neat. Download some free skins on google play and then reverse engineer the different elements to learn how they work.

~~Log in to Gmail on desktop. On the top left corner, just under the Google logo you'll see it says Gmail with a down arrow beside it. Click it, and choose contacts from the menu. If your contacts are not there then they are gone.~~
Go to https://contacts.google.com/ and sign in with your account. If your contacts aren't there then they're gone and sync was probably not enabled.
Just got this right before Christmas and it is a beaut. Smells like real leather (because it is) and feels great in hand. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Root your phone and then install Network Signal Guru. Inside its menu is a Lock Bands option that allows you to enable and disable the phone's available frequencies. Band 4 is listed as "B4 AWS 1700" under the WCDMA bands. I'm assuming the reason it's not shown under the LTE bands is because B4 on UMTS and LTE use the exact same frequency ranges.
It's a sometimes noticeable decrease in speed. You can verify the decrease in clock speed and disabling of cores with applications like CPU-Z.
Try poweramp
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Been using it for years on all sorts of android devices. It had crossed and gapless. You can pick specific folders for music and has more options that anything else I have seen. The developer is still very active and the latest beta had added visualization.
I realize this doesn't directly answer your question about YouTube, but the app I use for this is Ambio. Lots of great white noise choices and as far as I know it will play indefinitely.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happyexabytes.ambio
Edit: big plus, unlike YouTube, you don't need a subscription to turn the screen off.
Oooh that's good. There might be something to this then.
I did find the firmware for your deck, but it's from 2012. So even though you bought it last year, it's still an older deck. It's the last button under the "CD Receiver/ Digital Media Receiver Updates" category: http://www.jvc.net/cs/car/firmware/
I'm looking around to see if I can find any info. It may be worthwhile to call JVC and see if they have any suggestions.
EDIT: Might be worth checking out JVC's ridiculous looking app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jk.openlink&hl=en
Your model number is listed in the details, but only under bluetooth support. But who knows, maybe something with USB will work.
Those of you who feel their phone has slowed down a lot, do you mind running this benchmark and posting the results?
It'd be great if you can also mention if your encryption is on or off.
I'll share one of mine. Battery Widget Reborn is a widget I'll use depending on what mood I'm in. Nice that it can be customized to turn on your flashlight, as well as be displayed using daydream. Here is a look at it.
Nope. I'm using Nova Launcher Prime with "hide notification bar" on and I'm using Swipe Navigation(requires root) to get rid of the navigation bar. I just swipe up from the bottom for back/home/recent apps.
The time/date widget I made with Zooper Widget Pro and some fonts I got from dafont.com. The icons are KasatMata UI.
I'm pretty sure you need to use xposed or a custom ROM.
FWIW, I had the same concern. Somebody in this sub pointed me to Swipe Navigation which is a brilliant little tool that allows you to disable to nav bar altogether and use simple gestures to replace it. More screen real estate and less risk of burn-in.
Might not be your thing, just throwing it out there.
I believe that they're launchers where you can reorganize your apps. I use Timely for my alarm clock and it never shows an alarm icon in the notification bar. Also, there's an app that should enable battery percentage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
I just received the security update too. I died a little inside when I saw it was just the update and not Marshmallow. I didn't have any optimizing afterwards.
In case you're interested here's the info on the patch & what it contains: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-security-updates/GwZn7sixask

CNET claims that they are coming from the carriers unlocked. "The Nexus 6 will be available unlocked directly from Google and from all major US carriers: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular. The device can be had in midnight blue or cloud white with either 32GB or 64GB of storage for $649 and $699, respectively."
Waze is the best navigation service out there. It has maps that are maintained by the community, it shows where police and wrecks are, and is quite intuitive. I've been using it for a while and it's just amazing.
Looks like they took Magisk Manager off of the app store: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6el7da/magisk_manager_pulled_from_the_play_store/
You have to get it from the XDA thread now and side load it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
This will enable WIFI tethering and Adblock by pulling the build.prop onto your computer in the location where your terminal is open. Edit that in your favorite text editor on your computer and then add the following line:
>net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save, and then run
>adb push build.prop /system/
This puts it back on your phone, but the permissions might be funky, so run
>adb shell
>chmod 644 /system/build.prop
>exit
And make sure you don't let TWRP install root, it won't work. Then, if you want, you can do the same procedure in order to set up system-wide ad blocking, again, without root:
>adb pull /system/etc/hosts
Edit the hosts file, and add your own hosts. You can google for a good ad blocking hosts file, I used https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts and save your hosts file, then run
>adb push hosts /system/etc/
>adb shell
>chmod 644 /system/etc/hosts
>exit
You WILL get the dreaded Marshmallow "this device is corrupt," but you can just ignore that, it only indicates that the system folder is different than the OS expects. The device will boot a little bit after this message goes away, and you'll have ad block and native tethering enabled! I just did this on my Nexus 6 and it works perfectly!
Edit: mount is directly on the home page of TWRP, not under advanced!
this right here.
I find it 1000 times easier to manage all my contacts via Google Contacts and save them there. You can still do changes on your phone and they sync the second you save as well. Get a new phone? Get a tablet? All your contacts sync between them all. You never lose anything.
the amazon headphones should work, and they are designed similarly to the iphone earbuds
It comes with a dongle for the USBC port AND I found a dongle for charge and listen on amazon for $8.99.

I just bought a 3 pack of 3 foot Anker micro USB cables on Amazon. Very good quality. Of all the brands I've tried, theirs has the strongest connection to my Nexus 6. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015MJLEUS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_n704zb2HY3PYV
Apparently Greenify is no longer needed because Oreo does the same thing by default.
I've been using L Speed for a few months now and it's made a noticeable improvement to battery life.
It seems slightly better/faster, but still there is a definite delay. but the N6 camera was always REALLY slow. I'm hopeful that it will be fixed with software, like this app, once they mark it as compatible with the android one version of the X4.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.imagertuning_payton
In addition to SMS Backup & Restore, I'd suggest SMS Backup+. It backs up to your gmail and does so automatically once set up. I've been using it for years.
If its rooted, you could use Titanium. If not, Google will restore your apps, but not the data. Text messages can be backed up with an app in the play store like SMS backup and Restore.
I see this quite often with my phone. The solid "awake" bar says that something is holding your phone awake constantly. If you are rooted, you can easily use something like Wakelock Detector to find what app is holding the wakelock.
If you are not rooted, there is also a version of Wakelock Detector that can be used via adb. It's a bit more complicated, and doesn't work quite as well, but it usually works well enough for me to find which app/process isn't going to sleep.
This can often show things that aren't presented in the battery stats section of Android. Hopefully this helps in finding the cause.
See, and that was the problem I had. I threw Footej Camera on my phone and it's a billion times better and I've got zero complaints now.
Link to the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.footej.camera&hl=en
I mainly use Open Camera now and it's quite good and quite free.
I also like the one-touch widget for taking a photo quickly.
You dont have enough free space on system partition. Best way to fix it is uninstalling some system apps like gmail and installing it again from Google play.
Edit: i use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp
Does this orientation occurs in other apps (like chrome or Gmail?). If so you might need to check your sensor.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=asd.vector.sensor
Also try restarting your phone, sometimes I find that it's just an issue with the apps itself.
I'm using Disa, it has a Facebook messenger plugin as well as WhatsApp and normal SMS. And you can merge 2 or more together to have seamless convos across platforms, which I find very useful :D
Also that meant I could uninstall Facebook messenger and save on the battery drain that comes with.
GMD Immersive doesn't make them transparent, but it can hide them off the screen and you swipe to bring them up. It works on stock and without root.
Proshot (paid camera app but worth it) handles this much better, and you can lock focus during video capture. Plus full manual photo controls (in addition to auto). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot2
Google camera sucks, Google should feel ashamed of themselves for how poor the user experience is on this camera. I can't wait until I get my s7 edge.
Did you install a compatible kernel first? That could explain the bootloop. Install a kernel like ElementalX, Cataclysm, etc. with TWRP and reboot
Tap2Wake is enabled with the right kernel and kernel adiutor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor
You can keep your data. just don't wipe the data partition. You can install the system.img from the google factory-images all by itself with the command: "fastboot flash system system.img". Just make sure to wipe the cache and dalvic cache with a "fastboot -w".
I use call recorder and while my voice is louder than the callers i can easily hear and understand the conversation but i don't use a headset
You could use this app. It's called Micopi it can either entirely do your contacts or just what doesn't have a custom image it fills them in with a slightly cooler looking bubbly image!
Still jumping roms fairly ofter as I am never content, especially since my favorite rom didn't make the jump to 6.0 (RIP Terminus)
Tried Chroma (not very many features, although very smooth and stable), CM13 (too much stuff I'll never need), Pure Nexus (pretty good although never felt smooth to me), and Cataclysm (good amount of features but missing some I use regularly and didn't have very good battery on it).Right now I am on AOSIP which is definitely one of my favorites.
Favorite reddit app is Relay for Reddit, although am really liking how Slide for Reddit is shaping up.
My solution uses PIE control to replace them all on the right with a swipe-out. I can never go back to not having them on any device. I have in the past though I'm not doing so now, hidden the nav bar altogether because it's extremely rare that it's easier to use than just swiping the navbar out
Edit: nsfw
This is a feature of the Google Now launcher. It was implemented for Marshmallow. You can use an alternative launcher to get rid of it. My personal favorite is Nova Launcher.
I use AdAway and not Adblock, but I know AdAway modifies the hosts file in /system with a long list of ad servers to block. Marshmallow on Nexus 6 has an almost entirely full /system already, so you can't update the file with the long list. If you're unwilling to alter /system already, you'd have to use AdAway's ongoing local proxy server, built for non-root users who are locked out of modifying system files.
It's easy to free up /system space, but you trade off the benefits of Android Pay for ad blocking (but freeing up space also makes room for xposed, if you want to install that). Just use an app to uninstall some system apps - I remove Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides - and then reinstall from the Play Store, which will move them to user data instead. This frees up /system space and has been safe for me.
Sorry I don't have a better systemless method. If your concern is giving up Pay, that's valid, but if it's nervousness about messing up system by uninstalling apps, as long as you stick with the obviously safe one's you'll be fine.
It's polycon: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thearclabs.polycon
And the app drawer button is from candycons : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zavukodlak.candycons
You shouldn't be getting downvotes for this.
In 6.0, the /system partition is almost completely filled so there is no space to install new system apps (like xposed.) In order to make space for them, you need to remove some of the system apps pre-installed in the OS. I'd recommend System app remover. I've removed Google play Movies, Newstand, Music, and a few others. If you ever need these apps again, you can simply find them in the Play Store and install them. Except this time they will be installed to the /data partition so they won't take up any space in /system.
I'm using the below app to do it. It works great, has been updated for marshmallow, and works well tied with LMT. I am rooted, but just for basic hiding, I'm not too sure if you need root or not.

I use Tinfoil for facebook
It's just a webview dedicated for facebook with a side swipe menu to refresh or jump back to the top of the page.
Biggest bonus is facebook can't do any tricks to read your cookies and stuff because it's all self contained.
Nobody ever mentions this camera, but I've tried all the other ones listed here and ProShot camera is the absolute best.
It's updated regularly and even has a manual video mode, which is super useful given the nexus 6's problems with autofocusing when recording.
I think its camera settings and layout are much more accessible and intuitive than Manual Camera, which I had been using.

Edit: it's killer feature, to me, is the ability to save custom camera settings, so you can quickly access them later instead of having to fiddle around with the manual settings each time.
I use Kernel Adiutor, pretty much the best kernel manager around. I just use his Blogspot to keep up with any updates because he doesn't have a dedicated app for it like Franco does. I have been sticking with the modified Hellscore that comes with Chroma for now but I keep an eye on the blog to see if there is a reason to go to the stock one.
With this
but be careful. Underclock a bit and change the governor, but DO NOT touch the voltage or mess with gpu unless you know what you're doing.
Office Lens works very well for me. There is also CamScanner.
If you're rooted (you are) remove the app completely and try to re-install via an APK or straight from the Play Store.
mirror for APK
Play Store
You should check out Ac Display it works alot like Moto X's active display. I disabled ambient display and use this instead its a good alternative. You should definitely check it out.
I was in a similar situation recently and found a good alternative if all you need is Exchange/ActiveSync support. My employer uses Maas360 MDM to detect root, and they require that you install it if you want to sync with the organization's Exchange server.
I wasn't willing to give up root, but I also didn't want to risk getting caught using RootCloak. Instead, I use this app, which just checks OWA every 30 minutes and doesn't store any messages locally.
This isn't a true solution and might not help your situation, but I figured I would let you know just in case. If you do use that app, go into the settings and change the font to the smaller option. It's an ugly app, but that helps somewhat.
Upgraded to fine for me with M preview 2 couple of days ago.
MPZ79M Not all layers theme worked for me. After some trial and eRROr I am settled with the following for now. Working fine for me. > * Florid RRO Layer > * Slice nav bar
I noticed a similar issue with my replacement phone from Motorola, which switched me from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. I didn't notice it though until after I sent my original in so I can't get much of a comparison.
Now, if it's an individual cable or charger that's giving you problems, Ampere (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere&hl=en) might help (I'm not affiliated with the app in any way). It let me know that the cable I was using to charge my phone in my car was failing, and not the adapter or car itself.
Thanks for the tip about ES--didn't know that! I'm going to try out both Cabinet and Solid Explorer. I like AutomateIt Pro for automating things just because it's more user friendly, but tasker is good.
The Whitepages caller ID app is surprisingly good at this if you just want to send the blocked calls straight to voicemail. In addition to blocking numbers, it identifies known spam numbers when they call you so that you don't have to answer to find out.
You can use an application called sound about whats happening is your phone thinks headphones are plugged in, this overrides that
I use Out Loud, though my car doesn't have bluetooth, just aux. I have it set to detect when I am driving via accelerometer and reads any notifications I receive from Hangouts (as I use that for SMS) and it works every time.
Titanium Backup is another tool that a lot of root users like. It's a little hard on the eyes and difficult to navigate at first, but I can't live without it now. You have to buy a key to make iut really useful (batch operations), but it's absolutely worth it to me.
But, as others have said, just flash the system.img from the update package and you don't have to mess around with a backup app. You'll have to re-root, but it won't wipe data unless you run the flash-all.bat/flash-all.sh without removing the -w flag in the file. Check XDA (or just google it) for a guide on how to use fastboot.
Though it can't shoot video or HDR (bummer), Manual Camera does a fantastic job of replacing the stock camera. Utilizes the Camera2 API, so if you're willing to put the time in, you can get some amazing shots. Unless I have to do HDR or video, this is my go-to.
