I've tried a few ROM and kernel combinations and found the best setup to be Pure Nexus and the FrancoKernel. That and the Franco Updater app is amazing.
I run it daily on my N6/LineageOS 14.1 with no noticeable issues. Battery life is excellent!
Edit: Forgot link to his app, it can auto-flash the kernel for you. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
Franco Kernel actually fixed these issues for me completely. You could either download it manually from XDA, or purchase this app which makes updating your phone much easier
I recommend Pure Nexus ROM with the Franco kernel and the Updater app.
I am using PureNexus and the Franco kernel. Using Franco as well as the FK Kernel Manager app and Naptime, I get over 5.5 hours SOT. I've tried a lot of combinations and this one is by far the best for battery life.
Good lord, so many things: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
There are lots of kernels available though, many will probably improve battery life. Franco's is the the one I tried first.
Root it, then flash a custom kernal like elementalX or Franco. Both of which support it. Then get the Franco Kernal Updater - the free might work, not sure, but with the premium definitely has this as an option and it works fantastic.
FKM can flash zips without recovery though I'm not sure if it'll work with gapps
Alternatively you could try MagiskGapps
That should probably work, based on kernel auditor and updated recently.
You could try Franco Kernel Manager by another veteran android dev Francisco. I don't know why I forgot to recommend this before, I guess I was looking for FOSS ones.
The Franco Kernel Manager looks like it costs $3.49. Anyway I apparently already have EX Kernel Manager, but am unsure which user setting to adjust to change vibration strength. Do you know which one to change?
>FK Kernel Manager Is this what you are talking about? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en_US
Kernel Adiutor hasn't been updated in 2 years, and has a very poor UI. Franco Kernel Manager is updated very regularly and has a much better UI as well as more features and it's currently on sale!
Yeah, uh... I'm trying it now and the speed is showing through app panels, app-switching, and typing. I think this is a lost cause lol. It's fine since I had originally bought it to serve as a backup device anyways. By the way, Google Maps Go is a lite, Chrome-based version of Maps (literally required Chrome to be installed) so it seems to be fine so far. And I fully believe your resource statements about Maps' intensity.
I guess I'll just try this one since I nabbed it for free some time ago in /r/googleplaydeals: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
Install FK by Fransisco Franco I'm not sure if it needs root but has a battery monitoring service so you can keep a track of usage. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel also maybe try a custom ROM because TouchWiz us the definition of a trash ROM
I use Franco and also think it's the best one. I recommend downloading the Franco Kernel Manager app. It really makes it a lot easier to apply the best settings.
The Franco app allows you to auto switch to certain modes when an app is open. Requires root; no kernel requirements.
Everything special about this kernel is cause of the Franco kernel app in Playstore. You don't have to manually setup every details including overclock/underclock etc. If you want more juice, simply select battery saver, need stock select balance etc. Check that out.

btw: Even I was getting around 9-10hrs SOT with Radon. I think the phone will cross that barrier with Franco kernel.
Simple answer, No! Complex answer, Yes, you can try method shown by /u/gauz47 or flash Franco kernel and buy Franco kernel updater 2 (almost 4 Eur). I am not sure about different apps and kernels, this is what I use daily.
I currently am using Franco kernel, it's pretty good and easy to install if you aren't confident in flashing it manually if you download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en_GB It also has some options on there to improve the phone. It has made my battery life even better and now I am hitting around 7 hours on screen time with 50% brightness + WiFi on CM12 (The newest version).
edit: added more links
They have an app that you need to download from the app store. If I remember correctly you need to pay to use those feature.

I hate when people tell you to go research, implying you're not already, or that asking with this thread isn't a part of that process. Since I decided to comment, I'll do it right.
The img is meant to be flashed using fastboot commands in the bootloader. The zip is meant to be flashed using the recovery, so just go with that one since everything else is flashed in the recovery.
What's new? Now some things (kernels, ROMs, mods, etc) aren't yet compatible with the "new" way of doing things. That "new" way is called "systemless". What it means is entirely irrelevant to the end user. All that matters is everything used to be not the new way, and that the new way is called systemless, and you need to be aware of cross compatibility between parts before putting them together.
OK, now the fun stuff.
You should be good now. Consider getting Franco's FKU if you intend to modify the kernel.
Good luck. If you've got questions, fire away. People should either tell you the answer or else ignore you. Now if I come across this question again, I can copy paste my answer or link to this thread, or else ignore it. No reason to tell people to 'go do research'...
I use FKU you can also use kcal which is free.
Seems to be Franco Kernel Manager
First you will need to root your phone.
Than install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en\_IN&gl=US
Try franco kernel manager. It has a battery monitor which does that.
If your experience has been laggy with elemental x, that's quite unfortunate. I can't speak for that, but I can say with confidence that my 5X has been lag free for years with Franco Kernel; great battery life too. Don't mean to sound like a pusher, but I'd give it a try.
Based on what you said, the only issue I can foresee is that you can't OTA update the OS while rooted on Franco. Which would mean that monthly you'd have to do what I do and download the factory image form here and flash it onto your phone, assuming you wanted the monthly security updates.
For ease you could use Nexus Root Toolkit (it works great still, but it seems to have been abandoned by the developer). Or you can easily flash it the manual way over Android Data Bridge (ADB). Here's a fairly great guide if your command prompt skills are a little rusty. After you have the latest OS on your phone it's as simple as downloading the FK Updater from the play store and having it automatically installing the kernel. ($5 purchase warning)
It literally only take me 15 minutes, once a month, to update my phone to the latest build and get it all back to where it was.
If you decide to try it out, and you have any question, let me know man :)
Edit: I forgot to mention that you'll obviously need to re-flash the latest build of TWRP and re-root your device with your preferred rooting software after you update your OS.
That's my choice at the moment too. It works great with the franco app.
You can use FKU to set up profiles for apps. Im not sure if this works with stock kernel but you are welcome to try. If it doesn't work with the stock kernel would recommend either Lean Kernel or Vindicator.
Thank you for the post.
I wish, there aren't that many left
most are deprecated/maintener left, telegram and similar are hit and miss because i eventully find out it breaks critical stock options or disables Gcam.
Franco unfortunatly is not available as i saw someone mention on xda just before posting.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
This however claims universal support, which is kind of worrying since there is no official maintainer. How does it differ from ktweak or root booster, is it a similar method?
I'm using FKM on Android 9 but it supposedly supports up to Android 11
Franco Kernel Manager has this feature I believe
I use this. Not rooted so the only value to it really is exactly what you're asking for.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
Francisco Franco é PT também :) Ele é bastante famoso pela sua kernel. EDIT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=pt_PT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel App developers can do that FYI.
Take a look at the screenshots here.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
Its upto the app developer whether they want to change the color or not.
Try using a custom kernel like leankernel, Hydra Kernel, Vindicator Kernel, or Franco Kernel. All of these can be tweaked by FKU or Kernel Adiutor, which is free. Also download Wakelock Detector and Better Battery Stats.
Can we use the Franco Kernel Updater to check for the latest release of the modified franco kernel ?
You guys should hire Francisco Franco to help with Kernel development or at least bat him an eye to check his work out.
