I have had no problem with performance, I have the i7 slate and use it as my primary machine for coding (Go) with Crostini and Writing (Word Android).
There are general ChromeOS problems with Android and Crostini needs GPU acceleration before things like VSStudio Code will be slick but I believe many of these issues will be fixed by ChromeOS 74 (currently 73 in dev, 72 in beta, 71 in stable).

I am fully bought into the single device replacing a laptop and iPad, it was my primary objective to be able to replace my MacBook Pro 15" and iPad Pro 12". So far so good, the Slate is fine for use docked with a 4k monitor and great for tablet use for consuming media.

Being new to ChromeOS I resisted the whole app in a browser at first opting to use Linux or android apps but actually PWAs work really well. I only really use OneNote for Android and TunnelBear for VPN. My Linux activity is mainly shell, TMUX, NeoVim, tho I do use VS Code from time to time, looking forward to GPU acceleration.

I have used this device for at least 8hrs every day since getting it in December, including all my work. My MacBook is switched on when I need to edit some audio or look for a missing file, probably 3 times in nearly 2 months.

Really loving the slate, once the remaining software bugs are ironed out ChromeOS and Slate is going to be an awesome platform.

Call me weird, but I actually like the Google keyboard too.

I followed the Debian repo install instructions here. After apt install code
it shows up in the ChromeOS application dock under Linux Apps and you can just start it from there. I grabbed my repos with git (which was preinstalled) and just cloned things into my home directory to get going. Pretty much anything that works on Debian and doesn't require hardware video acceleration is going to just work since it's only slightly modified for the Crostini VM.
>the GOOGLE slate does not support the GOOGLE stadia app (this makes absolutely no sense to me)...
On all desktop/laptop OSs (and iOS as well), Stadia doesn't run using an app, but a Progressive Web App (PWA). Chrome OS is a desktop/laptop OS, and as such, using the Android app would be sub-optimal.
This is done for many reasons, but mainly because there would be no read advantage to developing a dedicated client VS running it as a PWA, which instead allows them to offer the same experience for people using Stadia through the browser (no need to install anything) as people who wish to have it installed (as a PWA).
To install the PWA, simply go to https://stadia.com and in chrome's "three dots" menu in the top right you'll find an "Install Stadia" button. Click that, and you'll have Stadia installed on your computer. — Or you can simply run it through the website if that works better for you.

One last thing to keep in mind is that some few Chrome extensions can sometimes cause issues with Stadia, but this is quite rare. On the flip-side, I cannot recommend the Stadia Enhanced extension enough: it really adds a ton of options and control to the service!
Worst case scenario, if I'm feeling like I need a little extra lap stability, I may up getting this little 13x13 lapboard off of Amazon:
Grifiti Deck 13 Lap Desk for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Notebooks, iPads, Small Keyboards, and Writing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SOMAWA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7tmaCbBPG28RJ
Slimfolio is supposedly in stock at Amazon for $20: https://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimfolio-Designed-Synthetic-Magnetic/dp/B083GBCWHG
Notifications not having sounds is currently expected, as the default sounds is silent in the Android Container.
There are two ways how you can tackle this: Individually for each app or define a default sounds for all Android notifications.

Default Notification Sound for ALL Android apps

Notification Sound for single app

Hope this helps! :) Let me know if you need help, as I've just setup mine recently.
Absolutely! This is it:

As a bonus... it can evaluate mathematical expressions, which is pretty cool!

I get 30-36W with this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Baseus-Charging-Cigarette-Compatible/dp/B09MFK7Z6L/
PixelCarCharge https://imgur.com/a/PxPsVfx
Probably good enough if you are starting the day with full power and not taxing it full brightness all day.
Seems like most of the high end ones I've looked at the output specs on max out at 12v/3A to 15v/2.5A, but if you hook up a 2nd battery in your car (a small deep cycle maybe?), you can make a 24v cigarette plug, then you can get some real speed/power.
Not totally sure but it sounds like it might be "lucid sleep". I don't know what it has to do with tablet vs laptop mode though.
I have this Lepow model, which is decent. Connects perfectly using only the supplied USB-C cable, even if you're using the Slate on battery.
Not sure if you're able to order from Amazon where you are but this is a much cheaper option. I have the 11 inch version that I bought for an e-reader but I use it sometimes for my Slate. It's a very snug fit and it won't let me close the flap but the 13 inch one should be perfect.
I actually found one! I ordered it and I'll let you know how it is. It was tough finding one that had PD as well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J69RVV5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You could try the Moonlight app, it lets you stream games from your PC to your device. It does require that you have an Nvidia graphics card though. Otherwise hope Google's Project Stream comes out of beta?
Found it!
Used the Way Back Machine to find the original product page for the product details, and was able to locate it, I'm pretty sure its this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0749JZY5Y
Fintie item model number: ECAB062US

Only color is ping, but just got it and it works with the Pixel Slate. It's the ONLY remaining case I was able to find that doesn't depend on the Surface kickstand, as OP described.
OP: Thanks again for the recommendation, the setup with both items works well!
My initial thought was the cigarette adapter will reduce to 5V USB, but after looking I found this https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerDrive-Adapter-MacBook/dp/B071WYF9HP that seems to fit the bill.
Right. Looking in my Amazon history, I see this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CWTKZQV/. The product heading says "Brydge 12.3 Pro Bluetooth Keyboard with Trackpad for Microsoft Surface Pro" but farther down it says "Brydge 12.3 Pro+ Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad for Surface Pro 4,5,6,7" I don't know why it says "Pro" in one place and "Pro+" in the other.
My screwdriver is from this set, and I think the specific screw is called pentalobe screw or torx screw. Also using the smallest diameter so the 0.8 mm screwdriver. Hope that helps
FWIW it's not a USI pen, but I bought this pen (there's almost certainly better searches for it): https://www.amazon.ca/Lenovo-4X80H34887-ThinkPad-Active-Capacitive/dp/B00VES9FHG/ref=sr_1_42?crid=361HVNCVPXNG5&keywords=lenovo+smart+pen&qid=1642522799&sprefix=lenovo+smart+pen%2Caps%2C126&sr=8-42
Works like an absolute charm. I don't really need the buttons, it's smaller, the back end is a touch tip for when the battery dies or I want to use it on my phone. Not a bad product at all. I think I paid $35 for it.
All items look brand-new (I'll sanitize and get some of the finger-marks out before shipping!) and I've had a great experience with it since I bought it (in Feb 2020). For more pictures, head over to my listing on Fb: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/240008153948964/
If none of the offers you already have you can look at the Brydge 12.3 models designed for the Surface Pro. I have the 12.3+ (I think that's the model) and it works. The mouse is a little wonky on the Slate, and you'll have to do DIY padding on the hinges because it's a little loose, but it does the job as an last resort.
I also have this keyboard with track pad that works perfectly, it's just smaller and has to travel as a separate piece: Fintie Ultrathin 4mm Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XBTUK5M/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_KVT5PVD0KS9KYCXR8FYG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.
Also, tearing out the keyboard from the folio case and replacing it with padding and felt makes for a great lighter protective case if you don't need the keyboard. I posted my DIY on it in the spring if that interests you, just look at my past posts.
Yeah sorry here it is!

Any Bluetooth keyboard will work great this one auto connects now as soon as I turn it on. They also have one that's a trifold with a tracpad
Just found this available on Amazon

Almost want to get one more as backup or backup
I develop web and mobile apps on the Pixel Slate using Haskell, VSCode and Nix.
It is great as a secondary development computer that also acts as a tablet. I carry it wherever I go, leaving my main beefy Thinkpad P71 at home, to which I can ssh to whenever I need anything performance-intensive done. When at home, I tend to work on the Thinkpad for obvious reasons (it is also connected to a 5k monitor).
The only codecs supported by chrome are listed over here: chromium.org/audio-video
If our media is in something like x265 (newer format used high def videos) then it is not gonna work
Head to chrome, in the top right is 3 little vertical dots (chrome settings). Then select Help > About Chrome OS. A new settings like window will pop up, then select detailed build information. The current operating system channel is listed under the 'Channel' section. You can switch to beta if you want but it most likely won't fix the issue.
I will say, for YouTube the video is still playing when I turn off the device, but pausing the video before hand does not effect the video playing. So this is most likely a bug on all channels (except maybe Dev? But that is very unstable in experience). You can submit a bug report to the chromium project or but in the meantime you will just need to pause/close the app :/.

There are quite a few questions running through your post! Your ideal set-up is unclear to me.
For desktop usage and my Brydge Type C keyboard, I use one of these foldable tablet stands and it can bear the vertical weight without issue.
Since it's only a stand, there's no fancy management for charging.
I'm in the same boat. Folio started having issue with update 89 and still doesn't work with latest. I have also see many other post saying people's folio dying with 89. My hopes are it's software but I'm not holding my breath for a fix since Slate is dead to Google. I was looking at options and I think I'm going to give this a shot here's a link
but if I will buy case like this
This one is a great color match and works with my Google keyboard:

The active pen 2 from Lenovo is also a good choice. It's double the pressure sensitivity levels over the pen pro but no rechargeable battery. Can be had on Amazon right now for $53.

Amazon just dropped their price to $79.99. Only 14 left as of this post.
Its the one that Google was selling on their website, got mine from Amazon. Its the Incipio Folio, very well made.
Here's an Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MWCQ4FL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_rVY3DbME5GF7Q
Sadly not currently available, but very nice if you can find one.
Sure. It's on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Folio-Case-Most-12-Tablets/dp/B01G7L4DPS, but you may be able to find it cheaper on eBay or elsewhere by searching for "Insignia Folio Case for Most 12" Tablets"
Krita is similar, and for sure it works. I have it installed. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.krita&utm_source=webtekno.com
I was doing the same thing before. With this new version you now have to use an extractor that supports app bundles (aka split APKs), like SAI (instead of ApkExtractor). SAI is available in the Play Store (click link in this reply or the one above). It's basically like ApkExtractor, but handles the new format, and also handles installation (you allow SAI as an install source in Settings->Apps->Advanced->Special->Install unknown apps).
How did you obtain the 1.14.60 APK? I managed to export it using SAI from BlueStacks (which is emulating a Pixel 2 XL), and that installed correctly on the Pixel Slate (also using SAI for the install).
Sys Admin here with an i7 Slate.
Any other specific questions, I'm happy to help!
Been this way since the beginning. (Full price annoyed, here!)
The high end tablet can barely run a few chrome tabs. Connect it to an external monitor and drag windows around to be instantly disappointed in ChromeOS's basic capacity to render anything with speed. Try to do anything useful in Linux to see how ~~gimped~~ locked down and secure it is; Termux on a Pixel phone is a better experience than this garbage.
I wish I had waited and went with one of the new Surface Pro tablet/slate type form factor instead.
I've never even heard of "files go by google".
Are you asking about "Files by Google"? That app id designed to clean up space on an Android device. It will not connect to a Chromebook
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.nbu.files&hl=en_US
Oops my bad, I meant if hypothetically I have a USB C PD monitor, only one cable is enough to charge the pixel slate meanwhile at the same time displaying the content to the monitor as well as connecting other USB Enabled devices on the downstream port?
So, why I'm asking these questions, my pixel slate package got stuck in Singapore (due to this pandemic), my friend bought it from Google US store and he got stuck in Singapore too, before going back to Indonesia :(
While waiting, I want to set up the necessities for this pixel to operate and support my day to day activities, and my plan is going to be like this:
1 pixel slate
1 USB C PD Monitor (for charging & displaying), if not then might as well using regular HDMI Monitor with dongle
1 set of keyboard/ mice with USB Dongle plugged into the monitor's downstream port (I have logitech coz they have 1 USB unifying for all keyboard and mice)
1 pixel 3 XL
With that setup I imagine my desk would be clutter free :p
Wdyt?
>It's more than capable of replacing your Macbook
Is there anything you miss from macbook (if you use mac before) when u're using pixel slate? Would you mind to check or confirm whether these following apps works well in your slate, coz it's my day to day app to work with:
Gmail & other Gsuite app (was wondering to use the stand alone app rather than using chrome tabs, which one is better?)
native telegram app (my company & team used this as our main line of communication)
zoom (yes we still use it even though the security flaw seems concerning)
NordVPN
bitwarden for password management
Shift (tryshift.com) , currently they also released the Linux version, so I'm assuming its also doable on pixel slate
some WhatsApp for daily chat with my friends and families
other chrome extension app which I assume it will work just fine
Wdyt?
I have a Dell U3419w with very similar specs that I've been using happily. Video, charge, USB hub.
I think the only time when I went "huh?" was when my Brydge keyboard was running low on battery and I didn't want to move the USB-C cable just to charge the keyboard.
Oh and the "split screen" thing to shove windows left and right isn't enough, this thing has room for 3-4 windows side by side!
Get this for $30 in case you can fix it.
Maybe it's a blessing.... Those brydge keyboards kill the display. On my slate there was yellowing on the pressure points.
I tried lots and ended up with 2 that do work, but generally the ones with lots of ports didn't. I think I read somewhere that the slate only supports display port 1.2 whilst some adpaters aren using 1.4 for usb-c which might explain why.
Anyway with these 2 I can connect to 2 monitors and still charge via the PD usb one of them has.
I did it via chat and they honored. 2 days ago right after I purchased the laptop and the order number. I used the same link for the amazon $439
Google Pixel Slate 12.3-Inch 2 in 1 Tablet Intel Core m3, 8GB RAM, 64GB, Aspect Ratio 3:2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JWCHWRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_938XEb9T3EQ3K
It was pretty easy. If you go through the customer service chat on Best Buy web site there is an option to ask about a price match. I gave the link to the Amazon product : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JWCHWRM/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_UajUEbE0VB7S2
Then since I had already made the purchase they refunded me the difference. That's all there was to it. I probably waited longer in line for the chat than the actual transaction. Honestly I didn't think they would do it, but figured it was worth a shot. I wonder if the guy was feeling nice, or made a mistake, or maybe it's fine with their policy, but I'm happy about it .
Glad to hear you're liking it. I've had mine (i7) for about a year now and honestly I don't know why more people don't love it. I absolutely love being able to seamlessly transition from laptop to tablet mode so easily. I also have the stylus but don't use it very often. Can I ask what you're using it for so frequently? One thing I hated about it is that Google didn't provide any native holder or magnet clip for it, so I just bought this on Amazon and hoping it gets the job done https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PXL4Y8C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use this one, available from amazon in a cheap 3-pack.It's pretty good if applied properly, at this point I don't even notice it's there.
The New Explorer Folio Case by Poetic is now in stock on Both Amazon & Poetic website
Looks like The Explorer Folio Case For Pixel Slate is ready to be ordered direct from Poetic Cases & Amazon Both links 👇 https://www.poeticcases.com/products/explorer-2019-google-pixel-slate-12-3-case
As nice as the free Google Folio style keyboard is, I highly recommend catching the Brydge G-Type keyboard on sale. They're still on sale on Amazon for $80.
It has completely changed how I use my Slate now. It's no longer weird and inconvenient to use my Slate in tight quarters (on the couch, on a plane, in a car, etc.). My Google keyboard now lives on my desk (it is really nice on a flat surface). I find I use it more as a laptop than anything, but I still frequently slide the Slate out and use it with the pen on the couch or in bed.
Also get yourself a cheap case off of Amazon. This one fit my Slate with the Brydge, but the Google Keyboard fit too (was a little snug). Contrary to the listing the case isn't exactly waterproof from what I could tell. Also the pocket orientation is weird and hard to see the zipper, leading to a lost Pixelbook Pen when I left the flap open. But basically any case that's in that size range would work.
Sorry I had meant to reply back to you. I can grab you an Amazon link if you would like.
that being said if you go on Amazon and look up the bamboo pen you can find them used for about $30.
I got the JETech Laptop Sleeve Compatible for 13.3-Inch Notebook Tablet iPad Tab, Waterproof Shock Resistant Bag Case with Accessory Pocket.

I used this for my XPS 13, which has nearly the same dimensions, and loved it. They also make slimmer ones without a handle if that works better for you. Seems like anything with "New Macbook Air" dimensions is a perfect fit.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MWCQ4FL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_rvh3DbXW1RMF2
Appears to not be available. It was overpriced, but it was discounted when I got it. It really is horrible, so don't feel bad. I mean, it makes a nice stand, protects the Slate very well, looks presentable at meetings, very sturdy and well built... Absolutely terrible.
If you are in the beta or dev channel, then you should be able to use this program on any app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.masmas.dexmax
You need the beta or developer channel because this app rewrites the header information of your app and re compiles it.
when running those channels, you do lose some functionality in the tablet mode for like Netflix

Amazon has stands that hold phones and tablets, just check the size it will hold. Then I got my case from there too.... https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MWCQ4FL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Since the Incipio case is not available where I am or online (as far as I can tell), I ended up getting a folio case with a PU leather/flexible holding frame designed for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4-6 series of devices and cutting out a little of the left sleeve's lower edge to provide access to a USB-C port.
Pros:
Cons:
I've got two of these chargers and haven't noticed any issues with my i7 Slate. Picked them up on sale for ~$18, and a couple of these for $10 each. Feeling pretty future-proof for now. Originally used them with my Samsung Chromebook Pro and now the Slate. Nice to have a cable at the desk for tablet/phone/Slate and one in the bag for wherever else.
Good to know, as I almost bought this particular USB but thankfully ended up deciding for https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FKJ2KRH/.
Powerpass works well and you can use this also on the go. Give it a go, you won't regret it.
I bought this for my Switch and it works great with the Pixel Slate. https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Multiport-Adapter-Portable-Nintendo/dp/B07KGQ7X2B/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1544144639&sr=8-18&keywords=switch+usb+dock
I've been using the power passthrough and the HDMI for external display.
That's a good idea, head down to Fry's and bring my Slate with me.
My main motivation is productivity and being able to see all my code and big design layouts at native resolution.
Maybe this Acer 32" one instead?

I've been thinking about a stylus sling, to store the pen and fix the wobbly movement of the folio keyboard when closed.
I don't even own the pen, but I'm considering it now that built-in PDF annotation is coming.
