I just got mine last Friday (6/16). Couldn't be any happier. The phone is amazing. It's fast, no lag, good battery, great camera. As opposed to other Android models I've used in the past (LG G5, Nexus 6P, OnePlus 3T, etc) this one works out of the box. Literally no glitches. Getting LTE on AT&T.
P.S. Amazon has a great sale. I paid $319.99 for the 64 GB version: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MEF0R7P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The translation given by DeepL is:
The update, contrary to the usual, will not be available via OTA but a special procedure will be required.
No that professional, but I found this dual lens for IPhone 7 plus. Sadly, no such accessaries for Honor 8. Just wondering about other options for slightly improved photo taking effects.
Just bought a film protector since I don't like the tempered glass ones. Covers every part of the screen with no issues or problems because of the "curved screen" from Amazon
I can confirm that my charger (the stock Huawei quick charger that came in the box with my us model Honor 8 purchased from Amazon) supports inputs of 100-240v, as per writing on the charger.
To buy another (also 220v compatible and rapid charging) Huawei charger, see this Amazon page.
The Honor 8 is available on Amazon for $259.

The phone has a lot packed into it. It's a matter of exploring what you might find useful. There are some that may have been mentioned elsewhere:
You can set up the fingerprint sensor as a "smart key." I have mine set to scan when I press it, double-press launches the camera, and press and hold turns on the flashlight.
By accident, I just learned if you swipe from right to left along the navigation icons on the bottom of the screen, you'll get the one-handed mode. Didn't think it'd come in, ahem, handy but I'm using it a bit more.
I'm just going to mention this because it may not be obvious to most people, but when you shoot in "wide aperture" mode, you can adjust the focus area and aperture of the shot from the gallery app. It's pretty amazing stuff.
I bought my H8 used, so I didn't have a charger or cables with it. I've bought USB cables on Amazon before with mixed results, but these HI-CABLE USB-C ones have worked well for me.
The battery is dead most likely. Age for that sounds about right as well. You can try AccuBattery and see what that tells you.
You can use the theme editor app to change your font system wide. I have used it on EMUI 5, not 8. But I think it should work.
You can try and download a theme and apply only it's icons. There are many such themes, here's one of them:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=emui.en.com.gpix2
Also this app called EMUI Themes Factory has a lot of round icon themes under it's icon section. Here's that app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emuithemesfactory.emuithemesfactory
Depends on the model of your phone. I'm on L09 running B405 and downloaded the latest Google Play Framework from APK Mirror and installed Facebook to test your claim running on both the Beta Facebook version and the normal release.
So far Beta is more unstable and does crash but the normal did not. Make sure you aren't in the Facebook app Beta program and do yourself a favour. Use Metal Pro or Phoenix, both are really good (low memory usage) facebook web wrappers apps that are worth the money and the battery you'll save.
Maybe check out Open Camera. You can record up to 3264x1840. Seems like locking focus and exposure in this app produces some decent footage. Still messing around with it myself. You are right about the stock app dropping the ball on video though.
Years ago I used External Keyboard Helper, because it hid the soft keyboard and allowed to remap keys (handy for language layouts). But if you only want to hide the soft keyboard I suppose you could use Null Keyboard, it should work but I haven't tested it.
I have CN ROM and had to install Google apps through HiApp. Had similar sync problems. For contacts I have used: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-contacts-sync/google-contacts-sync-7-1-1-release/google-contacts-sync-7-1-1-android-apk-download/ (downloaded apk ver. 7.0 according android version and it works). Do not use Google calendar often, but I think this should help: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-calendar-sync/ You should allow sideload apps from sources other than play market.
WOW thanks man, this puts my mind at ease :)
I looked at GSM Arena Review and sure enough even they say the Honor 8 screen is really good especially the blacks
https://www.gsmarena.com/honor_8-review-1492p3.php
I think this should defenitely put my mind at ease, I used a nexus 4 but I hated stock android, I prefer UI from Huawei I looked at it and I love it immediately. Really like the skin used it looks just like ios
just a slight rant about the custom rom support:
the only reason why this phone has terrible support is because there's literally only a handful of devs who are actually taking the time to make a AOSP based rom. i tried it for awhile and liked it but for fucks sake none of these devs have put out an update for any of these roms since june or august. i've even tried to build from source with the OpenKirin kernel and i cannot figure out how the hell they did it.
VoLTE is a thing on ALL custom roms that don't work, so really there's no complaining there. even lineage themselves know this is not going to happen without OEM partnership.
as much as i want an actual AOSP rom for this phone, i'll stick to emui until honor drops support for this phone, or they finally decide to actually release the kernel source (they only released partial sources for EMUI 5) and somehow custom roms become way better for this device. from what it looks like now the devs decided to ditch nougat to try building oreo so i guess no more updates on the nougat-based roms.
If an app doesn't need internet to work, just firewall the app in Phone Manager (Phone Manager>Mobile data>Networked apps). This will prevent the app from being able to download any adds.
For browsing, try a web browser with ad-blocks built it or use Disconnect-me (works even better).
https://disconnect.me/mobile/disconnect-mobile/sideload
I am a bit suspicious, especially since Huawei makes their own SoC. But I also don't consider the Chinese government much of a threat since I'm not in China. That, and Google spies on everything I do and actively tries to block people from protecting themselves. I like Huawei because the phone comes with a built-in firewall and permission manager. These are features you normally have to root for and that they are not standard features in Android sends a strong message that Google doesn't feel users should have control of their devices. So, doesn't matter what you use, you are being fucked. Say fuck you to Google and install disconnect (Google band the app on playsyore as it blocks some of their spying).
I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XKDD4WS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 because I didn't trust my self with glue aside from a chip in one corner where I pried it open you wouldn't know it wasn't stock
Navigation Bar by XDA is probably the best one you will find, but you will find it complicated to enable it if you don't know much about Android programming (ADB, fastboot...etc)
Have you tried the Firmware Finder app. It might have a bit of learning curve but google search or xda should help.
Just tested it out on my Honor 8 FRD-L04 and I faced no issues with 360 video. I'm on Nougat (B388)....
Did u try resetting the phone? I'd recommend to download an app like Castro and seeing what it reports from the Gyroscope. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itemstudio.castro)
https://www.amazon.com/elk-pace-Huawei-Luxury-Ultra-thin-Protective/dp/B07B2DYG5Q
Still kinda thick but what're you gonna do. It's a shame I've managed to make my phone look like a goddamn mess before I got it.
There was still adhesive on the edges of the back cover when I took it of, so I just used that and squeezed it against the phone to secure it. I do use a phone case (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXTROW1/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) so I haven't had any issues with it coming off/moving around even when I take it off for cleaning. Just make sure it's lined up correctly and it'll look like you never even opened it up.
I also use my phone in the sauna at the gym and haven't had any issues with it sliding off or moving around from the heat.
Thanks.
I just found this one that you have to use your own SD cards and has multiple port types all around it. Also very cheap.
I got a white pair of these and they aren't too bad actually. Right now they only have pink but there are a few brands that sell these exact headphones that should be under $20.
I recommend you get this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M2ZXQ5C/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_-rzAzbSFV8254) or anyone else that needs the accessories for the honor 8. It's cheap and all their official stuff though Amazon seems a little low on stock right now.
Yeah, you're welcome! Here's a link to the case.
As the listing's last photo says, > you need a soul mate,so does your phone.
Im using a strontium 64gb card. It's perfectly fine Here's the link Strontium Nitro 64GB 85MB/s UHS-1 Class 10 MicroSDXC Memory Card (SRN64GTFU1R) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00WGAU3O0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Mul1oJf7VxqK8
Amazon's selling the 64GB for $19 more $319

Huawei Honor 8 Case, LWGON Shockproof Silicone Protective Case for Huawei Honor 8 (cocose blue) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L5EQVJ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_VgAnexl9fltiZ
I bought this one, plus a tempered glass screen protector.
Personally I bought the official flip case (this one) - shows off the phone; screen protected from scratches etc. when in your pocket but none of the impact of a screen protector on sensitivity/colour; auto lock/wake-up when you close/open case. But possibly offers less protection than you're after, and some people just don't get on with that style of case.
this one has worked perfect. sticked to the screen perfect.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J77DHPG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Because I use a silicone skin, I don't notice the edges at all
Not op, but I have this case and it feels pretty good. I work in a pretty rough environment and have dropped my phone from about waist height to no noticeable effect. (I do have one of those self-healing glass protectors on it as well.)
Sorry, no such case is available. Your son wants one of those Life Proof cases, but none are available for the honor 8.
Edit: this is the best case I have found for the honor 8: https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Resilient-Absorption-Huawei/dp/B01LXTROW1
Thanks for your question. Have you tried our Huawei Honor Silver Cell Phone Case yet? Here's the link to some of our cases along with a few third-party recommendations. https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-Cell-Phone-Case-Honor/dp/B01K5FSAF6
To change which calendar opens by default from the notification shade, please call into our Customer Service team at +1-844-524-6667, so we can get more details as to which type of calendar app you are using. We appreciate your patience!
Just ordered this one....and I just now saw the two reviews for the Honor 8 version, and apparently it doesn't fit well at all. Crap.
no. for stock updates you need the stock recovery, which isn't terribly hard to flash on your PC but is annoying to flash stock and then twrp.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.graffixnyc.m8recoveryswitcher&hl=en
download this and download the stock image i provided (this is for FRD-L04 extracted from B360) and download a fresh twrp image.
https://ufile.io/b3mxi - stock recovery
rename twrp to CUSTOM.IMG and stock to STOCK.IMG and put these on the internal storage. this allows you to seamlessly flash the two recoveries on the phone without using a PC if you are already rooted.
if not, just flash the stock image like you did with twrp and do the OTA update.
Get a launcher like Nova launcher or action launcher and use a pixel theme. Use this app to download one of the stock-like themes. Enjoy the closest to stock Android you'll get while still having a good experience. It's just not worth it to use custom ROM on this phone
That's great to hear that Pulse works. It seems similar to PB and Join, although I mostly use the latter two for syncing and sending messages/files. Can you try Join (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.join&hl=en) since it has a free trial? Would be great to get some feedback!
In case it helps, I installed Floatify and, with a little bit of configuration, all your notification gripes will be gone. Results in a stock notification experience with a number of optional enhancements.
Not that I'm aware of. I know that themes for the P9 also work for Honor 8. You could also try a third party theme editor that should allow you to change the background of the Notification Panel if you wanted to try that out. EMUI Theme Editor
