Run this guy for a couple weeks to get a good health reading and make a call. If that heavy use is four hours of screen on time it doesn't sound like any issue however.

If you are having issues while idling it may be a wake lock issue. Try this out, there is a light version of you are not rooted as well.

I just published an app that will give you access to the Night Mode quick tile on the final N build - no root, no adb or anything: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.michaelevans.nightmodeenabler

You can also use Tinfoil for Facebook or Hermit for Facebook & WhatsApp
Ive had my 5X since October and haven't had any issues with my cord. I just bought some new cords from Amazon and they have a very satisfying click.

Or you can use Chainfire's FlashFire.
It can flash OTAs as they come (autodetect when open the app), preserving the custom recovery and root in the process.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash
You can also download OTAs or even a full nexus image from Google's nexus images site and flash them with FlashFire too. And flash others zip in the same batch as the update.
Super convenient.
Amazon Fire Premium Headphones work perfectly and are a good quality for the price. $15 to $20.

Also, my experience tells me that if you bought some that didn't work they were probably designed for Apple products.
It depends on what type you get. The tempered glass covers are pretty nice actually. The cheapo plastic ones, not so much. I rarely have had good experience with the play ones. I usually will spend about $10 bucks on the best tempered glass one I can find on amazon. This is the one I have and like very much: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014SO4PPE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en
Been using this since the OG Droid days. Backs up SMS and MMS, including emoji and pictures, and can sync with the cloud.
uninstall the facebook app. It's a complete battery hog that doesn't show up as facebook. Just use the browser or download Metal (a web framwork for facebook). FB messaging app doesn't seem to have the same problem.
edit: here's a link https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/feb/01/uninstalling-facebook-app-saves-up-to-20-of-android-battery-life
MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE IMESSAGE BEFORE GETTING RID OF YOUR IPHONE!! Follow everything on here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage. When you enter your phone number into that website, it removes your phone number from apple's imessage servers. Make sure you do that in addition to turning off the imessage setting on your iPhone. Here is some good info on migrating data to your new Android phone: https://www.android.com/switch/. The build quality of the 5X is great for a plastic phone, but make sure your expectations are in line so that you aren't disappointed lol. A plastic phone isn't going to feel as good in the hand as the premium aluminum iPhone 6. Enjoy!
Snapchat only cares about iOS app. They don't give a shit about is Android users. They do have a beta program and the beta app is a little better, but still laggy and slow. https://www.snapchat.com/beta
No app is going to detect it because those ir blasters are utilizing the headphones jack. The ir signal has to be output as a sound wave. You need an app that works that way specifically.
Additionally, unless the ir blaster had a built in battery and amplifier, the headphone jack is not going to output very much power so it won't work super well. It should at least work at very close range.
FYI You can flash the OTA using ChainFire's FlashFire app.
I'm stock rooted with TWRP, I downloaded the linked OTA zip (for some reason it wouldn't download on my 5x, so had to download it on my pc and transfer it over). Added the zip in the flashfire app, left the default settings and it flashed successfully. It's still rooted but I did lose xposed but that is easily reflashed, which I did via FlashFire as well.
Agreed. I used to use the screen filter app which lets you go even darker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor&hl=en), but I haven't felt the need w/ my 5X. It's not as dark as I'd like, but dark enough.
The best was my galaxy nexus. AMOLED + screen filter = amazing. In the parts of the screen where it's black, you can't even tell it's on! Amazing.
Worst was the LG G3 I just had previous to the 5X. Not just an LCD with bleed, it also had poor viewing angles. So reading close at night gave a weird effect (since each eye sees slightly different colors due to the angle), not pleasant.
I do still wish we had amoled - just the nicest screen tech I've used. But that said, the 5X comes very close and I like it.
Also, 1080p FTW. I hated the 1440p screen, such a pain.
On that note: does anyone know of an "advanced reboot" app that will add the extra options directly to the power menu? I used to use an Xposed module for this, but that's not an option on Marshmallow and all of the apps I've seen require the use a of separate widget.
Edit: Was looking for something else and stumbled across this, which was exactly what I was looking for:
Forcing a bootloop... come on you have no idea of the hassle that you want to put your self into dealing with the LG repair. If the bootloop happens is likely that they will not fix your speaker they will replace your motherboard ( they are not giving G4 nor G5 replacements anymore and the speaker is not connected to the motherboard). On top of that, you may risk that they mess up with the unlockable bootloader as others users had reported after getting their phone repair.
Safe your self the hassle and fix the problem you caused... a replacement speaker cost you $5 in Aliexpress
Success,
I use the Spigen thin fit case. It looks good, isn't bulky, and has a lip on the front. Only small drawback is the headphone hole is sized for most consumer headphones and since I wanted to use studio headphones (ATH M50), I had to take a drill and carve out a bit at the bottom. It works great now though.
I bought the 20100mAh type C battery pack for... hold on a second. I thought I paid $79.99 for it on May 20 but I just looked right now in my order history and turns out I paid $49.99 and now it's going for $59.99!
Guess you're right, I got thrown off by the 50% off shown on the amazon page.
Unlock the bootloader, root the phone and install something like Swift Backup or good old Titanium Backup, setting up either sync with Google Drive (both apps require purchases for this) or regularly copy the files to a PC. Use Google Photos to prevent loss of photos, and also regularly back up the internal storage.
This is overkill, as in theory once your bootloader is unlocked, you can simply flash a "zombie" boot image (as I like to refer to them - the ones with half the cores disabled) and copy data from there, but having a backup anyway makes the process of saving your data afterwards quicker and less infuriating. In my experience, with my zombified 5X (the second one which bootlooped, first was a warranty claim), it's slower after you flash the core disabling boot image. It's now my "crippled test device" at work, as it's slow but has a full HD screen, so is a good test for comparison to a device with a shit ton of apps and bloatware installed, the worst kind of user to download one of your apps.
A Google Play Music sub includes YouTube Red (only in some countries), which has no ads.
The VPN Private Internet Access has an ad blocking setting in the app called 'MACE' that will block ads. I believe it works with YouTube, but I can't easily test that at the moment since I have a GP Music subscription with Red.
There are ways to do it at the router level for whole home adblocking. Can't offer anything specific beyond suggesting you search your router model along with ad blocking or youtube ad blocking to see what comes up.
My nexus5x is rooted, and I use the Flashfire app to install the OTA updates. It takes care of backing up and restoring your custom bootloader too.
It's still recommended to uninstall tweaks before any OS update, though typically security OTAs are quite safe.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash
It is from the new Prisma application you've installed, because you have picture rendering in the background. Hold the tap on the notification, and you will know what I am talking about.
This app uses the sensor to trigger the camera for taking photos/videos. Not very practical to me, but it is a proof of concept that the sensor can be used in other ways.
I'd like to see the fingerprint sensor turn off the screen, and maybe a double tap on the sensor to turn on the flashlight.
I use an app called Swivel for this. It has per app settings. It even worked for some other apps or games I had that ignored my orientation settings.
Quickpic and/or the internal viewer of the file browser Solid Explorer.
If you are going to use EX, I would recommend the developer's app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.exkernelmanager
It is $3.99, which, IMHO, is a fair price to pay for such a useful kernel. His app notifies you when an update is available (or not, you can change that in the settings) and can automagically install it for you. I don't know, however, the install procedure of Cataclysm.
Are you using some sort of lockscreen app or gesture to shut the screen off (like the double-tap gesture in Nova, or this app) instead of the power button? If so, it will always require your PIN the next time you use the fingerprint scanner.
I'd avoid Kyocera DuraForce It's running an ancient Snapdragon 400 on Android 4.4.2.
Oh, 3GB of RAM, you must be talking about the Kyocera DuraForce Pro. Much better, but you'll still be making a lot of compromises. It's probably stuck on Android 6 forever, since they didn't bother to upgrade the original DuraForce past 4.4.2. The processor is probably better in terms of heat and power efficiency compared to the 808 in the 5X, but might not match it in terms of raw performance. The extra gig of RAM will certainly help though.
But yeah you're going to make a lot of compromises if you want a "durable" phone, in terms of specs and software (updates and bloatware). My brother-in-law got a durable phone (something made by CAT or something) and he broke it pretty much in the same timeframe he broke all his other phones.
>I heard using a ROM without GAPPS can greatly improve overall battery life and performance.
The improvement is not that significant, read about it on xda
And yes, Whatsapp can be downloaded directly and works normally without Gapps
It's true that Pixel Launcher is open-source though I tried a few of play store launchers that aim to imitate the Pixel experience and none of them are the real-real deal and they eat up all that's left of your RAM.
What I do recommend is Nova Launcher plus a few tweaks and you have yourself a beautiful Pixel-like launcher that is lightweight, works great, and supports tons of awesome customization even if you only use the free version. I actually recently started using this launcher and with a help of few articles not only did I manage to recreate the "pixel experience" but I also freed about 200mb of that precious RAM when compared to the stock nexus launcher. Here is the final effect:
https://i.imgur.com/MERYvPA.jpg
Only app other than Nova was a Substratum which I used to theme navigation buttons.
HDR+ is a Google algorithm that is only available inside the Google Camera app. No reason not to have more than one camera app though. I use Manual Camera and Google Camera on my N5X.
I downloaded Light Manager last week and you can set specific colored LED notifications. I saw that you can even set specific ones for when it's charging (and the percentages of how charged it is in intervals of 25% if I'm remembering correctly) and when it's done charging. I want to say it can pulse too, since I know for the notifications I set up it does.
Pretty sure he is wrong, or a little confused about terminology.
When I got my N5X, I wouldn't get any v-mail at all, just a weird text. I called VZW, had them shut off visual v-mail and provision basic v-mail, and now I have functioning old-school basic v-mail (i.e., you get a little symbol in the notification bar, you call v-mail, you listen, etc.). I think that is what he is talking about.
I have read posts that say this app works on VZW but I haven't tried it.
I tried it. I honestly noticed no difference.
Honestly, Force Doze did a better job. I've noticed much better standby and much less wakelocks.
You need to be rooted to replace the emoji font file (notocolor.ttf). Emoji Switcher (root) is a great app that switches out the font file for you. You have several options such as the ios emojis, samsung, and emoji one emojis.
Maybe use nfc/Android beam..or easier and faster way is use shareit which uses WiFi direct u can transfer files pictures documents just about anything ! And plus it will appear in the Google photos
Here is the link for the app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lenovo.anyshare.gps
The three pictures shot in low-light were taken using the Camera FV-5 app which allowed me to fiddle around with the ISO and focus.
When you say "transfer your music," are you talking about copying MP3s or some other audio file from computer to phone? If you don't want to buy a cable, you can use the cloud (dropbox or drive, for example) to upload from computer to cloud and then download from cloud to phone. The only problem is that you have to go file by file, you can't do folders at a time.
You can also use an app, like this one.
All that said, a A-to-C cable is not that expensive and is probably the easiest approach. The one I use is less then $7.
I use Light Flow with my 5x and it does the trick. I'm not sure if you can customize the color with the free version (you probably can), but you can certainly do it with the $2.49 paid version.
I'm assuming you mean this app, so I installed it and took a screenshot.
The description says
>For the Nexus 5X, look at the "fusb301/*/fclientnow" value. If this is a C to A cable and the value is 3000, it is NOT compliant to the USB specs. A value of 0, 500, or 1500 is OK.
So it seems like the cables check out on this app as well.
Geekbuying and Gearbest have also had genuine ones since launch
Try using the fastboot install method here: https://twrp.me/devices/lgnexus5x.html
Worked for me, just make sure you keep note of this: >Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
Just grab a Ubuntu 16.04 live iso, boot the thing off USB, open the terminal, do a "sudo adb install android-tools*" to get fastboot and adb and then a "sudo fastboot devices" or to unlock "sudo fastboot [whatever your guide says to do with fastboot]". All done, no hassle with drivers or manually downloading android sdk tools.
another option is to sign in to icloud in the browser and then select all the contacts and then export them. That'll give you all your contacts and you can move them anywhere from there. In your case you fire up google contacts (or you upload them to gmail contacts, it's essentially the same) and import them.
I just bought this from Amazon. There was a nice deal posted on slick deals a couple of days ago for 1.99.
Car Mount, TechMatte MagGrip Air Vent Magnetic Universal Car Mount Holder for Smartphones including iPhone 6, 6S, Galaxy S7, S6 Edge - Black (2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EXWKE6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_30FuxbX1QK2GR
It's pretty good, and it works with a case on.
unfortunately the LCD and the glass are laminated together somehow, and there's an approaching zero chance that you'll be able to separate them and replace them. You're going to be stuck with a full LCD/glass replacement.
check amazon for parts, recommend you get one WITH the frame unless you hate your life and enjoy picking small fragments of cracked screen off of adhesive with tweezers and a blow dryer:
that seems worthwhile and includes all the tools you need. Anyone with a reasonably steady hand and a bit of patience can replace the screen.
plenty of youtube videos will walk you through the replacement. just be patient, collect all removed screws in a bin separated by length, and don't force anything. patience is your friend. did I mention to be patient?
good luck

Here's something that hasn't been mentioned: Nextbit Robin
It's going for $170 on Amazon. It's got an extra GB of RAM but doesn't run pure Android out of the box (there are pure Android ROMs available). The fingerprint scanner is on the side of the device.
EDIT: provided link to Amazon
I drink too much to go naked. My Samsungs had Ballistic cases (swore to offer protection up to a 15-foot drop) but I couldn't find a Ballistic on Amazon when I looked for this phone, so I got this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015EH69RG?th=1. It works fine, just wish they had more colors to chose from.
This - Bluetooth Adapter for 2011 or Earlier Mercedes iPod iPhone 30 Pin Cable - CoolStream CarPro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017RW3DLG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_7x02ybTYWZB5G
Lots of cheaper knock offs on amazon too, but this one works great. Had it in my Audi'
And you can root your phone on a mac if you have one of those.
Got this one from Amazon. It's the whole assembly so it's much, much, much, much easier than just replacing the glass. (Done that on 4 phones now, and I will never. do. that. again.) I had to swap over the tiny rubber bumpers from the old one, but none of it was difficult, and the new one had all new adhesive in the necessary places. Also came with the tool set.
I checked out 2 or 3 youtube videos and just followed along the one that had the most closeups.
Depending on where you'll be traveling (i.e., depending on the temperature), you could get a magnetic phone mount that clips to your vent. Then turn the AC on - the AC will blow right at the phone!
Doubly good, since it will (hopefully) put your phone in a convenient navigation location.
I have this one and it's been great; there are tons of others on Amazon pretty cheap.
Anker 20100, USB Micro charger. Always seems to be on sale at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-20100-Capacity-Technology/dp/B00X5RV14Y
The 10000 if you don't want to spend 40-some dollars on it (I've seen it on constant sale and it's dipped down to $32 for the one I showed)
I've no experience using it but this seems the best option if you're not rooted.
If you are rooted then Titanium Backup seems to be the way to go.
Would you happen to have a cost range? If you are looking to spend around the same amount of about $300-400 dollars, you can find original used/refurbished Google Pixels and Pixel XL's at base model for under $300. Probably the best you can get for the great camera and stock Android experience.
Here is a link to refurb Pixel XL on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Quite-Black-32GB/dp/B071ZN4K8V
My solution was: Nova Launcher and Antimo
It's done via tasker integration with a new app called custom navigation bar (paid iirc, there might be free alternatives by now) so just uses normal tasker events to trigger profiles on that.
Two other cool features I forgot to mention before are last pass integration and theming are now possible as parts of oreo! You can choose a password manager in the system settings to auto fill with, and theming can be done with substratum themes through another paid loophole app.
Edit: the navbar app is free, I just paid for premium to have more than 3 profiles at once. Link.
My battery has been driving me crazy for months, so this is what I've done. It's gotten me to about 2.5 hours of SOT, ending the day with about 5-10% battery.
If this works for you, consider paying for the full versions of GSAM or Greenify. It's a few bucks and they're worth it.
Good luck.
Install Security Settings (v1.3.6). In "SYSTEM+" tab if you see "Root access was not detected" than you have systemless root. (Thanks for not updating I guess?)
I have always used the app GPS status along. It features an aGPS feature that springs up when you launch the gps itself and it helps super well with a quick and consistent fix. It also allows you to recalibrate any motion sensors.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
It can be done on a computer. I have two 128g drives formated to fat32 for use with my pioneer DJ setup, but I had to download a small program to my PC to do it. Can't remember the name off the top of my head. Do a google search and you will find a bunch of simple programs for formatting drives to whatever you want.
That said, you don't need to format the drive if you use an app that can overcome this limitation like USB Media Explorer or (what I'm using now) the USB plug in for Solid Explorer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer.plugins.otg
Yes, if you have Elemental X kernel then I recommend purchasing EX Kernel Manager app as well.
You can set DrunkSauce governor profile in there :)
I ditched both f.lux and CF.Lumen in favor of Night Light. It gets out of the way and uses code built into the Android OS (so less resources) even though it has less features and granular control.
Finally, the camera app from the Pixel phones, which is supposed to be faster, has been ported to the N5X and you can get that on XDA, but I'm waiting on the release of 7.1 stable to test it.
If you're on nougat; The night mode can be enabled.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.michaelevans.nightmodeenabler
Might take a few tries but it should add a toggle in the notification bit.
This adds a blue light filter tone to the display.
Today Calendar is a personal favorite. It has a screen (that can be default) that shows your daily agenda on the bottom half and the month on the top half.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.michaelevans.nightmodeenabler
That will let you enable a hidden feature in Nougat. It's basically a built-in blue light filter which is absolutely amazing.
You can always use DiskUsage to find the largest apps.
You can start by disabling some of the Google Apps that came with it. They usualy don't need extra space, but once they receive an update, they do.
Other than that 60% usage after app setup does not seem that bad.
Install GSam battery monitor and see which app(s) is taking up your battery.
Also, if your standby time is bad, follow these instructions to see what app is waking up your phone a lot. For me, Instagram was very high on the list. So I used Greenify to hibernate it. If you don't want to use Greenify, just go into settings > apps and force quit Instagram. That's all Greenify does. It's just easier to push a button with Greenify and dig through settings to force quit Instagram. After I hibernated Instagram, my standby time improved dramatically.
Also, if you have Facebook, FB Messenger, or Snapchat installed, uninstall it for a day and see if that makes a difference. A lot of people complain about battery drainage from those apps, especially facebook.
Yes you can cast your screen and it will mirror your screen to the TV.
If you have your screen cast, it'll show what's on your screen, so if you're playing a youtube video, it'll show that video. If you cast the video to the chromecast, it essentially sends a link to the video and the chromecast streams that link.
If you want to cast locally stored music and videos, I recommend an app like AllCast
You can decrypt notes using your fingerprint. And it's beautiful. Worth a try, it's free with an in app purchase for pro features.
App Locker - use your registered fingerprint to restrict access to apps. I have it enabled on Gmail, Android Pay, OneNote, and OneDrive to name a few. Photo gallery is another common one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamemalt.applocker.pro
ETA: Enpass Password Manager can leverage the fingerprint sensor, too, and works really well.
Screen off? Mine loses battery if the screen is on while plugged in. This phone really needs 2A+ for charging to be useful, especially when the screen is on.
Try Ampere to measure and check the phone is actually drawing current when the charger is in.
I would also like to recommend changing the keyboard like the other comment says. I personally like the Ginger keyboard because it allows me to use emoji's across apps rather than having the emoji's limited to only one area. I also like the key spacing of the Ginger keyboard. If you liked Apple Music then you could download that from the Play Store and use that once you login it. I also recommend Google Keep which does many useful things in my opinion.
This is Tasker, and this is AutoInput
Basically you setup a profile in Tasker so that when you open the Phone app, AutoInput taps on the Recents tab for you. It's very simple and no, you don't need root to do this.
The panorama mode in the stock app stitches multiple shots horizontally or vertically. The spherical mode in the stock camera also stitches, but warps the images to create the spherical effect (Photospheres).
Bimostitch might be what you're looking for.
>- Not limited to horizontal sweep panos only but can stitch multi-row, photospheres or full 360° awesome panoramic photos.
>- ...maximum resolution of up to a whopping 100 MP
Google has a Google Keyboard "extension" app for some native languages. Punjabi is on the list. SwiftKey has support for Punjabi as well.
Coming from the Canadian version (T999V) and running AOSP/CM. Picture messaging (SMS) never worked with CM so it's nice to have that again. The only thing I miss is the expandable memory. I have a low data limit on my cell plan so streaming on a regular basis isn't really an option for me. To compensate I purchased a 32GB Dual flash drive (USB-A/USB-C) and installed Stickmount from Chainfire so the contents of the drive show up with a media scan and I can use it with the Google Play Music app. Other than that, it's smooth like butter and feels great. The overall size took a little getting used to but it's got a great screen, great camera and the external sound is good enough for me.
I've been using ultimate rotation control to make the lock screen and the launcher rotate. Works great and I don't think it needs root.
I've tried multiple apps, and this is the only one that works for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlockpro
To work with the Marshmallow lockscreen restrictions, the screen turns off, but there is a 10 second delay before it is locked.
Edit: Wow..didn't expect gold. Thanks!!!!
My Android Pay was working up until a day or two ago. Found a thread on XDA that reminded me to check with the SafetyNet App I'd installed; Failing also now.
I'm running Bone Stock 6.0 with the Nov 1, 2015 Security Update and Google Play Services 8.4.89 without root
*Edit: added clarity on root
I had to rethink my widgets for this phone, going from 4 icons wide to 5 wide. A lot of widgets can't be centred in a way I like, which triggers me and my need for simple beauty. Weather Timeline has some really great widgets which fit into the Material design aesthetic and are customisable. It's also a great weather app in itself.
I'm running the Weather Timeline Clock 4x2 (stretched to 5x2) widget with a transparent background:
As it isn't black it is more likely stuck.
Try something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueburn.StuckPixelTool&hl=en see if it fixes it.
If not and it annoys you send it back for another unit.
I didn't have too much trouble adding an EAS account in the Gmail app, but I hate the colors in that app, and there's no GAL lookup support there whatsoever.
Moved on to the Email app, but that apparently no longer supports EAS at all in 6.0. Only options are IMAP and POP.
So I broke down and spent some of my $50 Play Store money and bought Nine. Works great!
That is the bootloop.
For whatever it is worth, I had the same issue today. I followed the "oven fix" described at this page:
http://hackaday.com/2017/02/11/nexus-5x-phone-resurrected-by-the-oven/
I was skeptical at first, but for me, IT WORKED!!!
The bootloop may come back, but at least the oven fix may buy you precious time to backup all your files.
Arghhhhhhhhh
http://hackaday.com/2017/02/11/nexus-5x-phone-resurrected-by-the-oven/
I guess you are giving people what they want. By the time their phones will finally stop working, they'll still feel like that was worth it.
I do wish that soon we'll be back to the days where market is lead by reasonable, slow, durable iterations that are actually worth repairing. Google seems to finally push that way, but Pixel still has to prove it's a Ferrari, not a Zenvo
yup - bought Bluetooth earbuds that fit under my helmet.
> Where did you install Adaway from (e.g. from f-droid, direct apk from github, XDA or XDA Labs app?) and did you change the target host directory path to
I installed from the F-droid and just clicked on the download apk near the middle of the page
I also tried changing my target hosts folder location but it wouldn't complete successfully so I just installed it in the normal default location.
I did use SuperSu 2.67 however which I just noticed, but I don't know what effect that would have on the systemless root.
Copperhead should work very well for you then. Its mostly stock android with only security tweaks more than anything. You can use the system.ui tuner to show the battery percentage in the battery icon. You can see everything it has to offer https://copperhead.co/android/docs/technical_overview or the main page https://copperhead.co/android/
here's a post straight from the DU that goes into a few features that are pretty exclusive to this rom atm as well as a nice feature list at the bottom ;)
See my bootloop fix guide here and read the "setting up your computer" and "unlocking the bootloader" sections. Consider reading the whole post actually, because it will help you if your phone bootloops.
That's as hand-holdy as any guide is ever going to get, it's very beginner-friendly.
Once you have set up your computer and unlocked the bootloader, simply use ADB to flash the latest TWRP from here. The TWRP website has instructions as well which overlap with mine under "Fastboot Install Method".
Once you have TWRP on your phone, you can just download whatever ROM you want and flash it from TWRP.
Was rooted on 8.0 now I am rooted on 8.1 no wifi issues. I use Magisk instead of SuperSU.

Try Open Signal while you're waiting. I looked into it when I was moving from Verizon and it showed T-Mobile was the strongest in my area (covered by Fi). Sprint (also covered by Fi) was below Verizon, but only slightly.
Open Signal:
> OpenSignal is the leading source of insight into the coverage and performance of Mobile Operators worldwide. Our data is crowdsourced by users of the OpenSignal app, downloaded over 15 million times, which constantly monitors the coverage and performance of their mobile connection. We use this data to increase transparency in the wireless industry by publishing reports on the quality of mobile networks, offering unbiased coverage maps and empowering people with the information and tools they need to get better mobile connectivity in a hassle free way.
Just play with your phone. Rooting is nice but you'll need to flash all the system updates yourself because you loose OTA. So if you need to block ads consider https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html first. It doesn't require a rooted device. I didn't root this phone. I like OTA updates :)

They recommend uninstalling and reinstalling on their beta page https://www.snapchat.com/beta/ Probbaly not needed but that is the opt-in page for it.
Oops, can't use the links that the Google Doc has imbedded in it.
Cambond are also very good and almost identical to Anker - if you believe the Amazon reviews (they seem legit). Here is a 2M cable, http://www.amazon.com/Cambond-Braided-Reversible-Connector-ChromeBook/dp/B0119QMQ6O/ There is also a link to a 3m version in the "Customers also bought" section.
Here is the link to the Google Doc with the Benson recommendations,

That one is actually pretty nice if I am not already done with clear cases.. they get scratched to oblivion in no time. I don't have that model on my amazon though, only this one with the retardly large cutouts and headphone jack covers... https://www.amazon.ca/Ringke-Absorption-Technology-Protector-Protection/dp/B014RS5BHW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1461936286&sr=8-2&keywords=ringke+nexus+5x
I have the Google adopted case for $20 with a Pleson Tempered glass screen protector (~$7 from Amazon). Keeps the phone at a reasonable size and well protected.
Belkin cables are good. It is the obscure brands that are more worrisome.
I'd assume it's likely this one on Amazon.
I've been using this TechMatte mount since March of this year.
EDIT:
I also just wanted to throw in as a little bit of an afterthought, after I got the magnetic car mount and installed the plate in my phone, I bought a few of these flat stick-on magnets to stick certain areas my phone tends to spend a lot of time like on the wall next to my bed. Just a little added bonus.
