Anyway, change the background to some color because the stock black now has a white tint on top... I think no more solid wallpapers.
Also paying by pressing the power button doesn't work.
Try Kiwi Browser as an alternative. Been absolutely happy with it. Benefit: you can add chrome extensions like ublock origin and won't be bothered with ads any more.
Kiwi in google play store
You might want to try Accubattery. It monitors your battery's health and you can set an alarm that will alert you to when your phone reaches a certain charge level. The default is 80%, which should increase number of charge cycles by 200%. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery
I can hook it up to my USB-C laptop dock and use keyboard, mouse, and monitor (HDMI or DisplayPort).
You can mirror the display via the DisplayLink Presenter app if it's installed. The permission to mirror the screen must be accepted on the phone before mirroring starts. If the digitizer still works you may be able to poke at the right place.
Install from the play store on desktop, then you'll need to accept 2 or 3 prompts. Location (from bottom left of device right x up) is 2.13" x 2.13" (1x or 2x) then 2.0" x 1.85" (1x). Sometimes the first prompt occurs once if you haven't yet used that dock yet.
I feel exactly the same way. I ordered this one and suspected about manufacturer, after googled it, i cancelled it anyway.
Download SRWare Iron browser and give it a try. I use it on Android, ChromeOS, macOS and Windows for a much less resource-intensive browser experience.
It is one or the best Chromium based cross-platform browsers (in my opinion) and has support for plug-ins if you choose to pollute your system with them.
I've been using a 4a since August. It hasn't had any heat issues so, not sure what to say about that...
I do not use Chrome (SRWare Iron is a far leaner & meaner browser) and disabled as many Google apps as possible.
I tried a 4a 5g for a couple of weeks (which also had no heat issues) and decided to stick with the slightly more compact 4a.
It was worth the upgrade at $200 discount for a new line sign-up but at anything less than $100 off of the retail price, I don't think so for such old hardware.
The (soon to be released in the US) Asus Zenfone 8 may be something to consider near full 4a 5g price range. It essentially consists of S21 innards in a (slightly taller) Pixel 4a form factor.

The first thing I make sure is that the cable should have a hard fit as opposed to a soft fit. Just like the official white cable that came with your phone, any other cable that you buy should have a snug click as soon as it plugs into the USB c port.
I'm looking to this post the Amazon posting of the cable that I use all the time for charging. It's an amazing cable and it has magnetic capabilities as well so you're not putting extra stress on the USB port. It's also perfect for the car as you're not fiddling with the USB c port.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08Q42KHBN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought the Crave case. It's dual layer so you slip a metal sticker in between the layers so it will stick to magnetic holders in cars. It doesn't offer quite the protection of an OtterBox case but I have dropped my phone a few times and it's held up fine.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088HGS9DN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_58D866YT841WKRRWYZES
I use a Spigen case, rigid clear plastic on the back and tpu on the sides you can find it on Amazon. this
The app is Xbox on the play store. Made by Microsoft. Dont know about the cast options. It is cool that you can connect your wireless controller to your phone with Bluetooth though!! Xbox app on playstore
After reading these stories of simple splashes killing the phone, I caved and got the Lanhiem waterproof case (https://www.amazon.com/Lanhiem-Waterproof-Shockproof-Underwater-Protective/dp/B08ML7CM8J/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1BHL4DVT9L7RR&dchild=1&keywords=pixel+4a+waterproof&qid=1623424879&sprefix=pixel+4a+waterproo%2Cdigital-text%2C161&sr=8-3)
...I recognize it is not IP rated at all, won't take it near a pool etc. knowing that....but where I live, rain is so unpredictable sometimes, that I'd rather not chance it. It does add some bulk to the phone, but given the 4a is compact as is - it still is not as bulky or heavy as my previous S9+ in a slim case.
If anyone else considers the case...the only drawbacks are: - the obvious addition of bulk (but not too much IMO, as mentioned above) - annoyances of having the unplug the protective flaps when charging or using a wired headphone (for me, these is just for charging at night 99% of the time) - audio definitely takes a hit; anyone I've spoken to on the phone can hear me, but I also see that Amazon reviews say otherwise - if this happens, I would suggest you probably have to unplug the flaps again so that they can hear you. Additionally, what you hear is weakened (because sound gets trapped in the case)...so overall, I can hear ppl (but lower) and they can hear me (handset and speaker). I can't say this will be the experience for everyone though, based on what I've read on Amazon
Since you have a 4a which has a headphone jack, you can manage with just an aux cable, which is a cable with a 3.5mm male headphone jack on both ends (like this one).
If you'd prefer to connect using bluetooth instead of plugging in a cable, there are also Bluetooth kits that you can leave in the car (plugged into the aux input and power) and wirelessly connect your phone to when you're in the car.
I am not a fan of gestures either, but like the expanded screen space. My solution is this floating customizable back button.

Also, lots of good, free, open source utility apps on F-Droid. I got a compass (Trail Sense), very simple notepad (Notepad), and weather app (Geometric Weather).
Tranya T3 Sports Wireless Headphones,>$35 on Amazon. I know this is not what you asked, but I've had these earbuds for almost a year. I wouldn't pay more. They sound good, they pair up with all my devices including the 4a just fine and just work. I wear them riding my MTB bike 15 to 25 miles a day, never lost one yet. IMO, Pulsar is one of, if not the best free music players and it has NO ads. I've used it for years. There's a paid version, too, but you really don't need it.
I ordered both the Ghostek and the ESR because i like having a kickstand. I'm also going to be looking strongly at the Rhinoshields when they release their lineup for the 4a. I want something clear so I can slap a Dbrand skin on it. Will report back on how the cases are when I get the phone.

Edit: I also want to note for you that I have the Spigen tough Armor for the 2xl. This is a 2 piece construction case, hard plastic with kickstand over soft TPU. The hard plastic portion will show nicks and dings VERY easily. Within a month I have marks all over it. The kickstand works in horizontal mode, but not vertical. Additionally, the volume buttons are basically flush with each other and the case. It's very difficult to simply put your hand there without looking and know whether you are on the volume up key or the volume down key. Super annoying. All in all, I'm fairly disappointed in this case.

I've had the Spigen on my og XL since I got it, I think I replaced it twice due to cracking, but I'm not sure if it's from me dropping it or hitting it. Haven't had any issues with tactile response or having to press hard though https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086PRGH7K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XCnnFb5JS6JMB
Looks like they have it under another brand name on the US site, or its just a very similar case, not sure
Unsure of shipping but I've been using the omoton from Amazon for like $10 for 4 on Android 11 with the Spigen Rugged Armor Case & it's been great.
Spigen is a fairly known reputable brand with various different size cases offering various thinkness and levels of protection. I'd just look at reviews on Amazon to see what you like. That's where they'll be cheapest too. Their tough armor case is more like an otterbox for $15
I use a screen protector from Spigen, feel that they are a reputable company, do great with handling warranty issues, offer discounted replacements, and have a feature that make sure the screen goes on properly and straight.
It's unavailable on Amazon, but you may want to check their website or other places

I have the one that has the thing that goes in the case and out of the usbc port area

No issues that I have have had.
I am using the Spigen case
Its an aftermarket app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=apps.syrupy.fullbatterychargealarm
And yes, using custom notification. It always worked fine with no issues but inexplicably stopped a while ago (before the last major system update)
I have had this cover on my phone for a year and half... dropped it a few times, not a problem.
I've also had one of these screen protectors on for the same time. Still on the first one because there is not a scratch or break on it.
Go with Spigen. It's good.
Have been using their screen protector and a back cover from Caseology (which seems to be a sub-brand of spigen) for more than a year now. The feel of this back cover is quite good.
Back Cover: CASEOLOGY Back Cover For Google Pixel 4a

And I've got this screen protector, because it also covers the front camera and doesn't have a cutout like most others do. Also, it comes in a pack of two and a frame to help you install the screen protector perfectly: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B086PRGH7K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Bit confused :P
It's not quite an external display, but scrcpy works great on macOS and Win10
I like wired mode better than wireless, bit both work equally well. Get the .exe install for Win10 or on macOS use brew, brew install scrcpy, to also snag all dependencies.
So this would work as a fast charger right? Since it's 18w?
This may help you, although it's instructions for Android 11.
I use Nova Launcher instead of the Pixel Launcher. It doesn't have this annoyance.
Fingerprint scanner pull-down works, but occasionally is unreliable.
Nova Launcher has several great gestures you can add to any android phone. And the paid (Pro) version has even more.
You can use custom icon packs and a different launcher such as the Nova launcher. But I personally use the reev dark icon pack along with an app called shortcut maker to get the custom icons without installing a different launcher.
Better add a screen protector as well as case.
i have ordered this "Google Pixel 4a Fabric Case" . But it will arrive by Nov 8. idk its original or not.
About screen protector, i am waiting for dbrand prism screen protector
anyone bought this? is it really google made ? saying because at the start of big billion days sale,it was listed with country of origin india, but now shows china...
I bought this 3rd party fabric knockoff for 599. Will report back once it arrives.
I ordered this case, but its out of stock now.
These are already featured on Flipkart. 2600INR the price is. You can see for yourself here
Vivaldi is a nice little private browsing alternative that I use on my desktop. You might want to try that. (Also available for Android) That's all I got : ) I don't use REDDIT on my phone.
I don't know why it would be showing up if there isn't any alarm set, but I've used this app to get rid of that same icon
I'd suggest a matte screen guard to protect your phone and your eyes. Also it's smooth and cheap af.

Yes, I'm tapping in several focus spots beforehand, as far as I could tell I wasn't moving my hands at all either...I must be doing something wrong, I suppose but I don't know what lol

No Chrome for me and Ffox hasn't been the most stable on various platforms.
I use SRWare Iron which is lean 'n mean and works well on a bunch of different OS platforms (including Android / Pixel 4a).
If you want 100% proper recording, use this, record the window on your PC's screen. This doesn't do audio alone, however.
Plug 3.5mm cable from phone into mic input/combo 3.5mm jack on PC.
Alternatively, root your phone and use a sound capturing screenrecorder, which won't care what app you're trying to record.

I've been using this one for about 5 months and I'm pretty happy with it. The 2 way kickstand doubles as a handle which is really nice. It's a little bulkier than I would have liked but it's also good and sturdy. I've dropped it several times and no damage. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08LCNKC1V/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_R7VJKWWDV6RF24N87EP6
I can't speak for Amazon India but I use these silicon plugs. They are great. If you are going to use the audio jack plugs, pull out the metal rod (sim eject tool) and discard it. Not worth putting a metal object in there. Surprisingly, I have not lost any of the USB-C plugs but there are plenty if you do.

I also take a small piece of cloth, insert it into the phone case over the hole for the camera, then insert the phone to protect the camera lens when I'm not using it. Just my own DIY protection.

I would check with the app Accubattery. Install it and let it settle for 1-2 days.
On my 4a, it says that idle battery loss is 0.5%/hour which is very good.
i highly recommend you this one by kwmobile. I got mine in metallic teal, but the other colors, especially metallic ones, look nice too. It feels so nice on touch, more than the phone itself. Protects it very nicely, too (included the cameras behind) and it's very light !
Ya, mine was something similar. link
This one work for me (but not good quality of plastic)link
Yep, been happening with me too. Tried to use a Logitech c920 with a OTG adapter. Phone recognizes it's plugged in, but as soon as I try to use an app that uses the camera (was using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.nextcamera) but yep, crash every time.
The app/camera combo works fine on my old OnePlus 3, so something with the phone for sure. Will be keeping an eye out for any fixes.
Introducing to you a recording application on the phone that I often use Voice Recorder - Audio Recorder: Clear voice recording, no time limit, has an interesting cut and voice change feature.
This is my favorite so far. I'm not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer. The tempered glass screen protector from spiegen is also good, but its kinda small and barely covers the backlite portion of the screen. I like the rhino shield because it actually covers the whole screen.
The Omoton ones are the best. They come with a jig that aligns the glass perfectly. The edges are rounded. Only bad thing is dust seems to gather in the camera cutout.

They've saved my screen from a crack and I personally like the selfie camera cutout.
I use to use a clear case, but they all yellowed over a few months. I now have been using this one since Sept 2020. It's great, it raises the screen off the desk if places faced down, even with a screen protector on. It's fairly slim and you can place a sticker on your phone and it'll show through the clear-ish backing. Easy to get to headphone jack and charger.
I have the gray one, it comes with orange button covers but they include black ones in case you're not about that.
I agree. Case and screen protector always. I bought one of these used from Amazon and have been pretty happy with it. I specifically needed one with a holster, which this has. I have an actual screen protector but haven't installed it yet and just used the plastic one that came with the case. I'll usually tear the plastic "screen protector" part out once an actual protector is installed.
Sturdy, but I really don't use it much. I use tap to wake & "Screen off - Widget & tile" by JGR to turn my screen on & off.
Sweet, how do you like the case? I got my 4a last week and bought this intense beast of a case for it. I like the kickstand a lot but the thing is just huge. Takes away all the shine of a sweet slick little phone.
FYI

read that this should work

we need more options
It seems phone specific battery packs aren't as popular as they used to be, but I don't see a problem with it. A power bank is better imo, and has the advantage of charging almost any USB powered device, not just your phone. I like the Anker PowerCore Fusion series:

I bought this one. Application was simple. Haven't noticed any issues with touch sensitivity or a rainbow effect. Only time I've had screen protectors that cause the rainbow effect is from the full body cases with built-in screen protectors.
This spigen one,is hands down the best, hassle free applying https://www.amazon.in/Spigen-AlignMaster-Tempered-Glass-Screen/dp/B086PRGH7K/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3BJIAA1MJLVAA&dchild=1&keywords=spigen+pixel+4a+tempered+glass&qid=1615458130&sprefix=SPIGEN+PIXE%2Caps%2C354&sr=8-3

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
Choose "App Lightning" method as "with AOD". It shows a light ring around the front camera when a notification comes in
I have this one. Sometimes I feel that it is too big and I cannot touch correctly phone's margins but I can say that is high quality.
this is the case I got.
It doesn't ruin the feel/size of the phone, but it makes the phone more grippy.
Did you buy from them my friend??
I've bought a ton of screen protectors because of the screen issue problem when the phone first came out. Mine still was having problems after the first update to fix so I kept buying it all different brands. The last one I bought is easily the best and google finally did an update so my screen is flawless.

I think the man who replied to your post in pixel phones subreddit is 100% correct. Using an AppLock is the best you can do on the go.
I recommend using this
I don't read ebooks. But YouTube does not effect the battery that much. I use Google News but no idea they are having widgets.
I recommend you : Via Browser
Yeah I forgot to mention it lowering brightness helps as well. Chrome and [Brave](brave.com/cha381) both are battery killers. You gotta remove them for sure from recents after using.
I think the reason why you getting 5hrs SOT is because of browsing only. Just for testing purpose, don't browse for one full charge and update here the SOT.
The car charger I have is out of stock but this one is very similar. You will need a C to C cable, Pixel comes with one I believe. Click here The Anker at the bottom of the page is probably the best. their stuff is top shelf but it is more expensive.
Seems Google removed that setting in Android 11. The only workaround I found was this app that claims to work on 11. Not free though https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=immersive.duna.com.immersivemode
