You don't need to examine scrolling recorded at high fps to see the jitter. Use the app called Touch Screen Test to see a visual trace of what is getting sampled. Essential's touch sampling is done in small groupings with pauses between. Something like sample, sample, none, none, sample, sample... Here's an example from my phone. You can cleary see the odd sampling distribution.
Oh no, it actually should have opened something to test your screen. My Huawei P Smart did work with it, guess it's not on every Huawei phone.
You can use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest instead. Download this and see how responsive the screen is around the edges. I think you have a faulty screen, thus would verify it.
Just a few suggestions:
Get this app or use CIT (please search it up how to enable it, it's very powerful) and check which parts are unresponsive.
Also get an otg adapter and connect a mouse to help yourself.
Pocophone F1 on MIUI 9.6 here
I can't quite wrap my head around the feeling that I get using the pocophone. I feel like I have no idea what to expect of one swipe in a feed. Sometimes the feed flies by with a single swipe, sometimes it moves only a bit. I often misstype and hit wrong buttons with the keyboard... What are you expirencing?
Somehow i cant quite put my finger on the problem... I recorded the screen using SLO-MO on the iPhone 7. The dots are in pairs of 3, wonder if that impacts the scrolling feel... Tried on my nexus 5 and the dots always had the same distance to each other... Used this app if u guys want to test your device and shre your results: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Also noticed that you can register a screen tap or even a screen hold without ever touching the screen. I could easily reproduce that only by hovering my thumb over the screen...
I think that may be "normal" mine does it too if I touch very close to the edge, but the touchscreen is actually fine. Use this app to test the touchscreen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Here's how my screen looks like: Touch test https://imgur.com/gallery/PCWqb
I discovered something similar this morning. The bottom two corners do not register taps properly. Most of the time when the corners are touched within about 0.25" they do not register the tap. They are fine if you drag a finger to the corner.
The top two corners work as expected. I downloaded https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest to test the problem and the app showed me exactly what I am experiencing. It's hard to demonstrate this problem, but I'll see if I can later.
Maybe download this app, which displays a full-screen test screen, and test the lower middle part of your touchscreen with it.
If the app works fine(all the bottom part of your screen turns white when touching it), the hardware's fine and you might have a weird firmware glitch. If the bottom center of the screen is also unresponsive in this fullscreen app, it might be a hardware issue.
If the hardware works fine, consider flashing a new system image. All the best!
Yes. Check this.
Happening on two brand-new (google-sealed box) units (one returned, another one returning).
If you decide to buy it, you can install the app Touch Screen Test and check it for yourself.
Install Touch Screen Test App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest) and run the test and BOOOM!! your Duo is much faster
Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Get her to use multiple fingers to
Look at this ridiculousness: https://i.imgur.com/yh5FXmd.mp4
Weirdly this only happens with my right thumb, I think cause more area makes contact. I have tested a lot with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
My right thumb makes a lot thicker line than my index and even the left thumb. That app also shows the flick downward. I've never had a flick upward though.
Hi KalvinTwo,
To enable increased sensitivity, I went to the "Settings" and then the "Display" menu and enabled the "Increase touch sensitivity" option.
However since the December update I have disabled this setting again and found that the screen is working mich better, though it still occasionally misses a tap if it is too quick.
Maybe your issue is an actual fault? Which keyboard are you using, is it the default built in one? Have you tried a touchscreen test app like this one to make sure there is not an issue? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Hope some of this helps.
Jim
It's an excellent value phone compared to the flagships, however make sure you get one with a Snapdragon processor, not Exynos. The Exynos chips suffer from poor battery life and overheating.
Keep in mind these phones had a screen defect when they were first released, so be weary of buying second-hand as they may be trying to get rid of a faulty model.
The defect doesn't ruin functionality, it just leads to input skipping in fast swipes (skipping as in a dotted line rather than continuous), Here is the result of my fully-updated phone from the "Touch Screen Test" app. For me, the phone still works perfectly fine so I haven't bothered getting it fixed under warranty. Also I've heard that for some people it causes occasional ghost touches.
So my advice would be if you're buying second-hand in person, ask if you can install and test the Touch Screen Test beforehand. If you're buying brand new it's not something to worry about, there's a 99% chance you'll get stock from a revised batch.
The one other potential downside is that the S20 FE uses an optical fingerprint sensor. It's a bit less accurate than the S20's ultrasonic sensor, and some people complain of often needing to scan multiple times before unlocking their phone. However in my experience, it's just a fickle process of getting a solid initial registration of the fingerprint. Apply lots of pressure, roll your finger around on all edges, etc. And you should still have a flawless unlocking experience.
Also if you want to unlock and root your phone, steer clear of US Carrier-locked Snapdragon models, as it is currently impossible to unlock them.
Conclusion: overall still a great phone, just be weary of A) Exynos chips, B) Old stock with defective screens
This is the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
The screen protector is the one that came applied on the phone. It's plastic I'm pretty sure.
Glad to help :)

try using this app running 2 then 3 fingers down the screen. if you can make it past 4 and 5 fingers without anything troubling you you're probably completely in the clear
I bought mine in November (5G version).
Had no issues in normal usage where it ever did any ghost touch.
I later tried the app people mentioned Touchscreentest and tried to draw lines super quick with 2 fingers and had 0 ghost touches or lines between them.
So no issues here
If you run the test using the method that the guy in this video uses, you'll know for sure whether your phone has the issue or not. The test app he used is this one. You have to use 'line mode' when testing, and the S20 FE test begins at the 2:40 mark; before that he tests a few other Android phones so you can see how the results are supposed to look for a successful test.
For some people the issue is not very noticeable, a mis-typed letter here or there, a slight jitter when scrolling once in a while, an occasional inadvertent click. So they assume their phone is perfect. Even though it is not.
Still, if your phone fails the above test using the test method he uses in the video, yet you're okay using the phone in your day to usage, then keep it.
On mine, it goes berserk running the test, zig zigs, etc. I'm using it for a few days to see if it's acceptable, before the return period expires.
If you're on Android, download a touch screen test app and just draw on the screen. Don't take your finger off and see if the line breaks. Here is one I used on an old phone with a similar issue:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
This one starts with dotted lines set but you can use the volume controls to open the menu and change it to a solid line.
If anyone is wondering if they are still facing this issue, download the app below then try drawing squiggles using one continuous line movement. If the line breaks up, then the issue is still there. The issue seems to happen more commonly when you do it on the corners of the screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Oh yep. Its probably disabled. I am on the International model and it works perfectly. Try a 3rd party app like this one
I suspect it's a digitizer issue then... Check the screen with something like this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
I used this app to test https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
like they do in the videos
Lots of S20 FEs come with a problem with the touch screen where touches are registered in random places on the screen when you try to touch somewhere specific.
I've had an S20 FE and the problem wasn't very noticeable at first, even fixed at some point, but now it seems to be getting worse. I mainly notice it when typing on my swiping keyboard.
I used to be able to see it for myself by using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Lots of videos on YouTube showing the problem, such as this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9_H25IHLks
Seems to affect only the 5G version, and not all of them.
Proof taken using my iPad to show there's no tomfoolery with a different device. The screen was cleared twice after drawing to prove it's not some bullshit recording (because I sure as hell don't have the patience or skill to insert it in "post production") and left to time out and go to sleep mode. It's on the original box and showing the back of the device at the end to confirm it's a genuine Samsung Galaxy S20 FE with no ghost touch issues. The app being used is Touch Screen Test 1.7.14
This isn't proof the issue doesn't exist on ALL S20 FE's simply this is proof of a single unaffected device. I have no idea if it suffered from it prior to the last T-Mobile update about 2 weeks ago, but if it did, I didn't notice it and can't see any issues on the current version. I luckily don't seem to be suffering from these stated issues.
Can you try the same test as this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3vtxfOFfcg https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Maybe try to install this app and see if the screen thinks is being touched even when not https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
I had a similar issue with my Moto G6. I bought it brand new and only had it for 2 months before the issue started. I sent it to Motorola and received a free replacement because it was still under warranty.

Not only did I have a dead region, but it would also randomly send "ghost" touches to the screen in that region without any interaction from me.

See my post here... It's a long read, but I wanted to document the entire experience:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/9fkqh7/moto_g6_dead_region_touchscreen/

Download the "Touch Screen Test" app I used for the screenshots in my link above. See if you have similar results:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest&hl=en_US
try downloading this app to see if it's a software or hardware issue
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
Clearing via the recovery you mean?
So are you telling us there are "dead spots" on your touch screen?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest
I'm using the Omoton ones and no one has mentioned this issue in their reviews....I think I saw somewhere that removing the screen protector didn't actually help.
Can you confirm it actually is fine now?
Can you download the app below and do some zigzags on the corners of your screen? specifically the bottom right. If the line stays a line then yeah, its fine. If the line breaks up then the issue is still there.
