Mine's rooted so I used titanium backup to freeze/disable a bunch of packages. For users that can't/don't want to root the main options seem to be Lg Package Disabler (paid) or adb commands
I prefer disabling apps to uninstalling them, but both work.
Here are the Sprint packages to remove with ADB:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80121330&postcount=25
If you want to to remove other crap like Facebook, you can get the package names from the app's Google Play link.
For example, the page for Facebook is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.katana
So the package to remove is com.facebook.katana
I heard someone mention this app in this sub before
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nachonotch
Never tried it myself.
I'm so glad that you brought this up! I was getting annoyed the other day and forgot to look for a solution. I just downloaded an app called Sharedr and it seems to be working so far. It replaces the default sharing and lets you pin apps like in previous versions. It doesn't work with all apps, but if you run into that issue then the developer seems pretty responsive to help.
2x is great! Could you please run this CPU throttle test from playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skynet.cputhrottlingtest&hl=en ?
I would love to see the results. Thanks :)

I used this app for a while... I saw as a recommendation in a YouTube Channel (Mr. Whosetheboss)
It simulates an AOD but only with a dot that will blink to you frequency and selected color to each app you choose. Has the options to double tap do wake the screen...
If you use the stock LG's AOD it may conflict a bit because they will not merge into a beautiful world of the big clock in the screen and the blinking dot. It will fade the stock AOD to show only the dot.
Hope it helps
I might give up on the microSD then. The A50/A70 line has 2 SIMs and dedicated SD, but it costs almost as much as the G8, and I'd prefer the G8.
What is the exact model of G8 that is dual-sim, do you know?
When I check gsmarena, and click All Versions under Review/Opinions/etc, it says "Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Hybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by)", but when I click each individual model listed like LMG820QM7, none say dual-sim.
I myself use flagship of cheapos https://www.amazon.com/Soundcore-Cancelling-Waterproof-Earphones-Comfortable/dp/B09ZQR5P5G They are pretty good, if you in US its even cheaper than for me in Eu. I heard some people found then at Walmart for 40 bucks
I’m using this as the hub:
USB C Hub, UtechSmart 6 In 1 USB C to HDMI Adapter with 1000M Ethernet, Power Delivery Pd Type C Charging Port, 3 USB 3.0 Ports Adapter Compatible for MacBook Pro, Chromebook, XPS, and USB C devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H2ZS1B5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_H3GA7MNBPMKHZHQ86CCZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And I have everything connected to a 100w dual USB C power brick. Used for charging a laptop and another device at one time. The 2.4ghz controllers are plugged in through a secondary usb 4 port hub connected to this and I have a USB3 hard drive connected to this as well. Both with well then Enough power servicing the whole setup and charge the LG G8.
In regards to the Bluetooth it’s connected all straight to the phone not to a dongle. I do have a Bluetooth dongle but I assume it will act the same way as the 2.4ghz controllers with their dongles and shut off.
As far as the screen mirroring like I said there seemed to be a lag on the controller and operating the phone which would be detrimental to gaming. Although I didn’t test it very long last night.
I've just received my G8 from Amazon (this one - not a referral link) and it's full of AT&T bloatware.
It's got Android 9 and nothing happens when I click to check for updates. It's stuck to G850UM10o. I bought this expecting to at least be able to get android 10.
Now I read somewhere the AT&T version will only update with an AT&T sim card inserted, which is impossible since I'm in New Zealand (it works fine with my carrier).
Fuck me, have I been duped?
Definitely recommend the ghostek cases if you can find one off Amazon or EBay in stock.
Loved it so much(looks, slim feel and protective functionality) I got the same brand for my spouse's Samsung flagship and my old G7 that my toddler now uses.
I have the smoke color for reference but only see the clear in stock at the moment.

Good luck
This has been asked a thousand times but I'll continue to repeat it...my go-to recommendation is the Speck Grip case:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NVD6TYJ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_3PC05BYXDVH3BJXE14P0
I love this speck grip case. It's cheap and very high quality
Speck Products Presidio Grip LG G8 THINQ Case, Eclipse Blue/Carbon Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NVD6TYJ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_BGT7G3P2T19SYSENRQZF
The G8 series supports HDMI via USB-c, so you just need something like this:
>Tiles
Yeah, I currently use Tile Extension (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gunny.bunny.tilemedia&hl=en_US&gl=US) which sounds like it does the same thing you do. I am confused as to why you can toggle DNS on/off with help of ADB and a tile, but can't with hotspot.
I mean if you want a pair go for it, I have no idea about the quality of the OH10 IEM's.
But I was just saying get something like this.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07V1DQTLY/
Or just type in 3.5mm extension into Amazon or wherever you buy audio gear, there are hundreds from these to 1.5ft up to 25ft+. I just linked this 3 pack because they happened to be really short and you don't really need the extension.
I'm glad to hear that! I found this one, seems like it would do the job well, but if you phone is working now I'm sure it's fine. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.kodular.borekbandell.Proximity_sensor_test
You could try apps like nacho notch to hide your notch, I'm really surprised they don't have it in the stock settings. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nachonotch&hl=en&gl=US
Try installing another keyboard to "shake" it back into English?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=solution.software.jain.appbackup
Use this app to create backup. After installing open this app and search for the Settings App, select the app then click on share then choose "Save to Drive". After that you will see an uploading notification click on that, once the uploading is completed click on the three dots icon then select "link sharing off". Download link will automatically get copied to your clipboard, then paste the link here.
Thanks in advance.
After a couple drops and cracks with other cases, I'm now using otter box defender. They make one without the built in screen protector so it doesn't make your screen look like garbage. If you choose to use a screen protector I HIGHLY suggest skinomi, linked below.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QN8S8XJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_e906FbTGNWEYV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It's a wet application film (like invisible shield used to be) but is nearly invisible when put on right.
Between those two I feel super confident that my phone is protected and the screen still looks and feels great. How this helps!
Are you looking for the anime art style? What similarities are you looking for in the cases?
Honestly this case has been one of my favorite phone cases and kinda has a cyberpunk feel.
Also works well with wireless charging.
This is the one I used, I have no affiliation with them I was just very impressed.
This is my 2nd G8. I dropped the first one and cracked the screen - bought a replacement and a pack of these. It comes with 3 so I threw one on my old phone for the hell of it. It had a few bubbles but they disappeared by the next day somehow and I was able to continue using it before my new phone arrived. My new phone came and I somehow fucked up the 2nd install. Last one I nailed and I literally cannot even tell it is on my phone - so highly recommended!
I suggest you disable "Loudness normalization" witch is under My Collection (bottom down) - Settings (Gear icon top right) . Also if you want to take things a step forward Tidal sounds better and louder on UAPP witch tunes right into the DAC.
They have [this]( https://www.amazon.com/LG-G8-Alexa-Hands-Free-Unlocked/dp/B07R5B4G5Y?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_PC_cffaa6d4_16&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER ) going on right now over at Amazon for a Prime day deal. $499.99, appears to be unlocked. I'm thinking about it but not sure if Amazon has loaded a bunch of crap on here or not.
I've only had this phone this phone for a couple of weeks and the lens is already getting scratched. I had the same issue with with the LG G5, but I was able to buy replacements and replace easly, can't do this with the G8 because it's built in to the housing.
Had anyone else had any issues? I found a couple of protectors on Amazon, but they don't have reviews. Had anyone had any luck with them?
thanks man, Im sure I will. just a few more hours till I get it setup. Bought a ghostek case off amazon and pazon tempered glass screen protector as well. Hoping both are as nice/great as the reviews.
My Ghostek covert has a nice lip especially considering it isn't a real bulky case. check it out. It's pretty much the best-reviewed case on Amazon. ghostek covert on Amazon My phone dropped from an end table about a meter to a tiled floor and it was no worse for the wear though the stupid cheap ass screen protector did pop off. Those ones with the black border adhesive should not be count on for anything Imo.
I cannot believe they don't mention the best reviewed case on Amazon. I mean c'mon did we really need spigen recomended twice? If your in the market for a case check out the ones they mentioned and then check out the ghostek covert and you'll see why it is the best reiewed case on Amazon. I love mine and think it is the perfect combination of rugged yet sleek. https://www.amazon.com/Ghostek-Compatible-Shockproof-Protection-Anti-Slip/dp/B07QMVJCLC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Amazon sells its own version of the G8 without the Google assistant button.
Mine nearly slid off a kitchen table which I know is nearly level. Had a case on the way so I only had to protect it for like 24 hours. So glad it was a weekend and I could basically leave it in my bed till I got the case. If you want a slim but durable protective case check out the ghostek covert on Amazon It looks good feels good and seems tough. I dropped from 2 feet and no problem already. Highly recommended for this phone.
Mine isn't as bad but the battery drain overnight is still unacceptable. I have to use the Naptime app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze) in order to prevent the battery drain.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Exactly! This app always works well for me. Can't remember the last time I used LG Mobile switch to transfer my data from one phone to another. plus LG Mobile switch app drains battery and causes a lot of issues on the new phone and you may have to reset it to get it working right.
Nova Prime + Folder Organizer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abcOrganizer
There is also a free Lite version to try.
You can put relevant group folders on your home screen from where you can then start any app with just two taps. No mindless swiping. Ideal.
When I was on the LG V30, the default screenshot capture was having issues, so I found this app. I still use it on the G8. Instead of just a full screenshot, you can drag and select an area to capture, which is really all I need most times. Maybe this might be helpful? It installs as a new 'tile' in the drop down menu.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.ux8.black
Download this and set it as the theme. I know it app looks a bit sketchy but you just have to download the theme and then you can delete the app. I have this as Im on android 9 and can't get android 10, it works perfectly fine and looks great.
As far as I'm concerned any UI the manufacturer puts on it is irrelevant since I'll replace it immediately with Nova Prime and this little app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abcOrganizer (there's a free Lite version too.)
I'm sorry to be blunt but people who swipe through pages and pages of icons to find and start apps are stupid. With this app I can basically start any app with two taps. One to open the group folder and the second on the app icon itself. That is all you need to have a very efficient UI. With Nova I can increase the density of icons slightly to my liking. 5x5 plus bottom row on a phone. 7x7 on a 9,7" tablet. With these two apps you can customise any Android phone to be super efficient.
I believe iPads still only can use phone density icons on such a much larger screen. I have a 12,1" tablet with 12x6 icons (Nova) plus bottom row. Apple basically tells you: "This is wat you should want." Only... it isn't, so I'll never buy iStuff.
I am too. I still find the gestures not being user friendly, as they are only comfortable to use if your thumb is near the bottom of the screen.
I've found that something like Pie Control has worked better for me. It can be activated from any part of the screen you set it to (corners, bottom, side).
Im thinking thats cpuz bug as the release date doesnt even show on my phone. A really good app I found if you want all the info about your phone is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tester.app.permission.zero.zeropermissionapp This app even allows you to access all of the settings under the hidden menu scan test.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=abdelrahman.wifianalyzerpro
This one works for me on Android 9, try it out and check if it works. You also have to turn on location (it says in the app) for it to work.
I dont know whether your device can change network type or not. Suggest you this app, you can set device network to 2G only or 3G only or 4G only, that would probably enhance network strength instead of setting it global.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kliksob.forgswitch
I thought it was stock but I forgot it's from an app. The app is called Tiles and the calculator tile is linked to the default calculator.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
Well I found a really cool solution to this volume slider missing, as well as my long term grumbling that I can't use the quick settings stuff located at the top of the phone using one hand. This app linked below puts a functioning quick settings shade at the bottom, including volume 😁
I just tried it out and it seems solid and well thought out, and the dev seems actively communicative.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombayley.bottomquicksettings&hl=en_us
The latest update on the sprint version has a wakelock that I never bothered figuring out what it was.
You can use this, once the Android 10 update comes I would recommend doing a full wipe and you should be solid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arindam.camerax Can you open that app and see what happens after you toggle it on? Does it support hdr or portrait on third party app?
*You can use multi window app trigger on playstore?
If you do get another G8, which to me has been one of the best phones I've owned for the price point. I can't recommend this case enough.
It's saved me from many accidental drops and works great with wireless charging.
I can confirm the UGreen 6-in-1 hub will work on the G8. I have the T-mobile variant. The newest model has a usb-c PD power port so you can power your phone while doing it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RW343WG/ref=cm\_sw\_r\_tw\_dp\_x\_60zwFbE8NH8XS via @amazon $24US
I saw this one on swappa https://swappa.com/listing/view/LUGK31415 Does it look like a good buy. Or this one on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/LG-G8-ThinQ-Unlock-Platinum/dp/B07V7H15KF/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=lg+g8+thinq&qid=1592411700&sprefix=lg+g&sr=8-5
I'm using the ghostek Covert. It's pretty slim and you can see thru the back. Buttons are tactile and work perfectly. Supposedly good to 3 meters drop test it is also nice and grippy. check it out. well reviewed too. I got the smoke color and the corner bumpers are rather stout.
4 hr and 30 min seems pretty low. I usually get at least 6 hours and up to 8 hours. Wi-Fi only at home and I only turn on data and location when I'm out. And just a tip. Dont let your battery die, it hurts it more than anything else. I was careless at times and learned the hard way.
Heres the screen protector I use: https://www.amazon.com/LK-Protector-Flexible-Lifetime-Replacement/dp/B07VQDPNRS/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=lg+g8+lk+screen+protector&qid=1574092649&sprefix=lg+g8+lk+&sr=8-3
This one works great but watch the online tutorial twice before you do it. Tricky, but if you do it correctly it is marvelous. LK [3 Pack] Screen Protector for LG G8 Thinq, [Flexible Film] HD Clear Bubble Free with Lifetime Replacement Warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VQDPNRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_L8x0DbTMKWW1N
I have a ghostek covert and it does everything you want except prop the phone but you can buy those things for less than $5. I couldn't be happier with the tactile button response and it's supposed to be good to 2 meter drop. The bumpers on the corners make me believe it. Not really bulky and it's good and grippy. ghostek Covert
If you don't have the FM radio app, you can install this to use the FM chip: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio&hl=en_US
It depends on your carrier, apparently. My G8 on T-Mobile DOES have the FM radio. You can check for free. Install the NextRadio app, which is free, and non-scammy. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio&hl=en_US It should work on any Android phone that has an activated FM chip. It works on my G8 and it worked on all my Samsungs.
You can also check this
If yiu want a stock on black or dark skin
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.jtunes.black
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.jtunes.dark
everything is updated, thats weird...You using this one?: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer&hl=en
Edit: I have the G8s if that is the problem maybe...
I have used this free, non-scammy app before for FM radio: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextradioapp.nextradio&hl=en_US
Use AppMgr III (PRO) from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd
It will let you know which apps can be moved to your SD card and move them for you. Note though, that less and less apps support running from an SD card.
I just got mine and was messing with it last night, I ended up going with this black theme and Evie launcher with a pixel 3 icon pack.
As far as local music files go I've only really put 320 kbps mp3s on my phone for the sake of space, but I've used MediaMonkey and recently the new(ish) foobar2000 Android app.
Both apps come from reliable developers who've been making highly regarded media players for power users since before modern smart phones, both apps are feature/customization oriented, and both support FLAC. MediaMonkey probably has more features likely due to their app being older, but I believe there are some things MediaMonkey requires a Pro upgrade for that foobar2000 (entirely free) will do. foobar2000 has always been freeware in the past (on PC).
Fingerprint being slow is probably just the way you registered it being an issue. It's faster than my Samsung phones on my V35.
There's good dark themes on the play store (at least for Oreo, not sure about Pie). You can try them out and have 2 hours to refund on play store I believe. This one is my favorite.
I've been able to switch the keys on every LG phone from the G2 and on so I'm sure you can on the G8 as well. Try it fluid navigation gestures though, that's probably even better than pie gestures.
Battery life on LG's OLED phones is pretty great, try restarting your phone a few times, might be the apps still settling down, or uninstall unused apps. My V35 has better battery than my S9+, I would expect G8 to be pretty similar, 5-7 hours SOT over 24-30 hours of use.
If there's no fix in your phone's settings then I would suggest using a reliable 3rd-party calling app, such as the one I use, Should I Answer?, which you can set to either "reject" or "pick up and hang up" blocked numbers. I use the app to block malicious/spam callers.
Run a throttling test and then you will see through lgs software. LG throttles pretty quick and their software is aggressive with it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skynet.cputhrottlingtest
It's common for oems to overclock their software or just have their software turn off the aggressive throttling when it detects it's going under benchmark test
I've only had the G8 for a couple of weeks and the lens is already getting scratched. I had the same issue with with the G5, but I was able to buy replacements lens covers and replace easly, can't do this with the G8 because it's built in to the housing.
Has anyone else had any issues? I found a few protectors on Amazon, but they don't have reviews. Has anyone had any luck with them?
These are great highly recomend. used them for my wifes pixel 2 and now the g8
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QDVJNR2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It comes with a plastic jig you put on the phone first then drop the glass screen protector on and it lines up perfect 100 percent of the time. They also offer a free replacement if you crack the first one. My wife has done that the the replacement was sent asap
Try buying this

and punching out the back.
