MICROSOFT LAUNCHER
Best Launcher on Play store. Period. Latest beta update fixed over 200 bugs! And now, it's smooth as fuck on my 2 old phone! The newsfeed is better then Google assistant imo. Todo-list and notes are just a swipe away... Syncs with cloud... So.. so.. many useful features!
For a long long time I was a happy Nova user. I installed Microsoft launcher only to give it a try, and now I just can't go back!
It took me a little time to get my head around "launchers" when moving from iPhone to Android. It's basically just a skin for navigation. There's lots of free options and the one that came with your phone is probably fine. (Microsoft Launcher is a good place to start maybe?)
BUT... If you like customisable launchers to suit you, lNova Launcher Prime does a great job.
Personally I don't want any of these, except maybe: >sorting options for apps list - alphabetical, by date installed, by most used
Must install a different launcher
Microsoft Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
Nova Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
I loved my Window Phone it was so smooth on a £60 Nokia. Nowadays if you still want to go with Microsoft you can use their launcher.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
I've been using it for a few months and it's pretty good, but it's still just feels like Android.
> let's hope the software matches!
They did. Microsoft Launcher is and has been one of the best Android launchers for years. It has been downloaded well over 10 million times and has 4.5 stars with nearly 1.2 million reviews. Microsoft is not new to Android, see Your Phone for details.
Something that has helped me keep using this program was installing the Microsoft launcher on my Android phone. It's a pretty decent launcher and has a link right to your points and daily quests that can get you 30 - 70 extra points. Also I have it on my tablet and when I search on it they count as pc searches.
Edit: Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
Are you referring to this Microsoft Launcher when you mention to get it?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
I've used that one before but I don't see where you can set up the Metro style UI. I had a Lumia and the best part of that phone was the live tiles. I don't see a live tile option on the Ms launcher.
For #1 I would try looking into Microsoft Launcher. It'll support Outlook.com/Exchange accounts better than what you'll get with your default launcher.
> a good enough reason for me to consider using it
You can always disable or uninstall it and go back if you don't like it.
Looking at the app drawer, it's remind me to Microsoft's Arrow Launcher. Personally, i don't use it, but that's the one i install on every coworker's work phone.
I was trying out the Microsoft Launcher. It set the background to the Bing photo of the day. I've decided I prefer the default launcher.
Try Microsoft Launcher instead. It's extremely smooth, you can use icon packs and gestures as well, but it doesn't beat you over the head with half a million options like Nova does, plus its more polished. Nova feels like the "project" it is vs a piece of software intended to be used.

Now this is a good reply!
I think it's a very valid point, but I think the only resource that is limited here is money. There have been a few people (Amazon, Blackphone, Cyanogen could even fall into this group) that have created their own OS's based on Android source, complete with additional features that are supposed to replace Googles.
Right now Amazon is the only one that has really made any significant strides, but as Google continues their shady ways, I bet that changes, especially if they get a knock from a major court somewhere (EU I'm sure is watching them pretty hard right now, privacy is a huge topic right now). Just my opinion there though. Google-approved devices won't matter in that scenario, and it shouldn't. It just takes money and a strong enough opinion that Google is doing bad things to get a start.
What if Microsoft actually made a run at it? I know they have their hooks into Android anyway, but they've got the know-how and the resources and obviously would like a share of the mobile market. Heck come out with a decent spec device, install an AOSP build and set the launcher to their existing launcher and you'd be halfway there.
What if Canonical put some weight behind a new mobile OS? They've failed a couple time already, I'm sure they want some of that market too.
This is all conjecture though. Thanks for the link!
You're out of luck, go get a nice Android phone like Bill and Joe did and load it up with Microsoft Apps, even the Microsoft Launcher preview is on Google Play.
Microsoft has a launcher called Arrow Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
I guess they didn’t want to cannibalize their own platform but they might be playing it safe or some nonsense in case they decide yet again.
Microsoft has the Arrow Launcher for Android that I like quite a bit. It doesn't mimic Windows 10 Mobile, but it adds some nice order.
Add Microsoft's Arrow Launcher and Evie Launcher to the list kindly :)
Since I was curious: They're called Arrow Launcher and Next Lock Screen
Thank God for the Microsoft Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher&gl=US
Or any launcher for that matter.
I feel like a lot of these Windows Mobile concepts forget that Microaoft has their own Microsoft Launcher for Android that's probably the closest thing we're gonna get to a modern version of Windows for mobile devices.
Resources:
I've been using the microsoft launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
I like it pretty well lots of customization, good trays, icon control, themes, widgets work well with it.
You've probably tried it, but what about the Microsoft Launcher? It might have a higher chance of working since they've put a lot of work into it for the Surface Duo devices.
I thought about the temperature issue but when I checked it using applications I saw that it was not hot at all, nor does it feel hot when touching the surface, from what I saw it was kept at a maximum of 60 degrees C, so I discarded that option, but I thought in memory and turn on developer options to change draw animations from 1x to 0, turn on force GPU and switch to no background processes due to low ram memory it has, which seems to be the main problem, from what I saw in only the system apps almost all the ram goes, many amazon apps consuming resources, that's why I wanted to know about an app to better manage the memory.
By the way I used the Fire Tool Box to install the microsoft launcher, here I share the link so you can see it, it is not the best but at least it works well and is better than the Amazon launcher itself.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher&hl=en
It's a surface device it automatically blows anything Apple makes out of the water. The Duo is the first Android phone from Microsoft built using hardware they originally planned to load Windows Mobile 10 on until they gave up due to developers not defecting back from Android or IOS and that what they got was shovelware that impersonated real apps and dummy apps put in to hold copyright in the store. Waze supported the OS until Google bought them then it was abandoned.
The Android image is Google certified but uses by default Microsoft Launcher as the shell something free for all Android devices. And has the default apps replaced with preloaded Microsoft ones. Mail is Outlook for Android Calendar also uses outlook. The mobile browser is Edge for Android using the Chrome core like the current PC version. If you login with your Microsoft account you use for Xbox and have rewards turned on you get points for using edge and launcher that can be converted to Xbox gift cards.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher link to download in play store. I don't have any screenshots that'll do it justice - best way is to give it a go and play around with it to find the setup and use case that works for you. It's no frills so doesn't slow the phone down. Feature I like the best is a draggable dock, can have multiple layers of icons on it
You can try Microsoft launcher, It's not Pixel based but works better than Nova for android 10/11 gesture navigation.

I'm pretty sure that button is forced on the samsung launcher.
I recommend Microsoft Launcher.
If you access the Google play store on a pc you might be able to tell your phone to install a new launcher app remotely. For instance, I'm using this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
Check out the MS launcher for Android -- it has a great little summary view to the right of the home page that has all your tasks, sticky notes, mail, etc, fully integrated with Office365.
After a few months of usage, android always somehow slows down. Not sure why.
After having setup everything, this time I am going to do a full image backup and just restore every few months back to this clean state.
Launcher: Microsoft
It's very fast, my new go to. You can remove all the Bing/Microsoft Apps stuff.
Theme: LG G8 for LG V20
Maybe you could try Microsoft launcher for Android. It replaces launcher but also replaces google assistant/samsung bixby etc and after few adjustments gives you quite good look for your calendar and agenda for today when swiping left on home screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
Been using Nova launcher for years but recently tried Microsoft launcher and as of the last several weeks I find myself sticking with the MS launcher. I'm quite surprised how good MS launcher really is. You should give it a try.
Here's what you should do: get a new launcher. I have it on my LG phone and it works great.
I personally use this but you can use any launcher of your choice. Basically, it replaces your home screen, so you can hide any apps you don't like. Launchers also tend to have better customizability.
Judging by the success of the Microsoft Launcher, I imagine there is a genuine possibility the Surface phone would run Android with the full Microsoft Suite that is already available on that OS
Arrow Launcher automatically organizes your apps by how often you use them. The more you use an app, the higher it appears in the list of apps. Simplest, easiest launcher I've used.
Looked into it a bit. Arrow Launcher is the only Android launcher from MS that I can find. It doesn't look anything like the WP launcher. You were correct, no live tiles.
Did you know there's a Launcher from Microsoft on the Play Store? Judging by the comments it's great for people coming from a Windows Phone. It's called Arrow Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
I use the stockrom and run Nova Launcher so it looks nothing like you'd want it

Mind you, I was the same as you, but I still wanted my phone to be fucntional, so I switched when my wife bought me a smartwatch in 2017 that I couldn't use with my WP. Haven't looked back since. I still think they peaked with WP8 and WP10 was a huge step back...
*Microsoft Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
*Nova Launcher (Big) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
People have been mentioning "Launchers" without explaining what they are, so I'll give it a shot.
Launchers basically rehaul the way your phone looks, feels, and the way you interact with it. I am not exaggerating that switching launchers can often feel like switching phones! The default launcher that comes with the Pixel XL is the "Pixel Launcher", but that doesn't provide lots of flexibility. Much of Android's customizability is based on the ability to change launchers.
You download launchers from the Google Play Store, like any other app. Different launchers offer different features. Some have less flexibility but some interesting features, or organization methods to change up your workflow. Other launchers offer lots of flexibility, but might be harder to grasp.
A very popular launcher is the Nova Launcher. Nova lets you essentially tweak every little detail to get your launcher to look and act the way you want. You can change icons, change how many rows and columns there are, remove app names, change what the home button does, change how folders look, use gestures for shortcuts, and much much more.
I recently switched from Nova Launcher to test out the Microsoft Launcher, and I've actually been really impressed. It also offers lots of flexibility and gestures. Not as much as Nova, but enough for it to functionally act the way I would have wanted it to act with Nova. Microsoft Launcher is one of these launchers with some neat features that Nova doesn't have. One feature is "My Feed": swipe left from the home page, and you have a feed of some useful information, like your agenda, the weather, documents that you've been using, people you contact, a news feed, etc. From the feed, you can send documents that you've been using on your phone directly to your Windows PC - a feature I haven't used much, but I can see the benefits of it.
(Another nice feature about Android is the ability to choose default apps - if you don't like using the default music player, feel free to download another music player and set that one as a default! If you'd prefer to use Firefox over Chrome, feel free to set Firefox as a default!)
Microsoft launcher let's you do exactly that (amongst other really cool features)
Rumor has it that Microsoft is coming out with a Surface Phone soon-ish.
You could probably roll your own, though. [Microsoft has quite a profile on the Play Store.]
You have:
Edge to replace Chrome (coming soon)
That's pretty much a Windows Phone right there. You lose out on the Metro design, though. There's also no good messenger -- Skype doesn't do SMS for whatever reason (Android lets you choose a default SMS app, and Skype doesn't support it).

Have you tried the Microsoft Launcher? I love it.

I'm using a Pixel 2 XL with the following 3 apps:

This pretty much gives you a well integrated experience if you are deeply invested in the Microsoft ecosystem. Using Microsoft Launcher I get to view my "timeline" from my phone as well as other Microsoft services on the homescreen. Cortana and Edge are self explanatory. Edge syncs with my Surface Pro and I can remotely send tabs from my phone to open on my computer.
Ofcourse :)
Of all I tested (Lawnchair 2, Nova and many more), this one works the best. Others caused me problems with gestures. Customize it a bit, for example hiding the status bar, changing the icon grid and removed labels
The first icon pack I ever bought and I don't regret a single penny. It has a lot of icons and their quality is just superb !
KWGT Kusto Widget Maker with Abstract KWGT package
It's number 18. The weather widget is standard from the samsung weather app. And ofcourse Galaxy Wearable buds widget.
In addition to the above mentioned, I use Fine Lock with QuickStar, Task Changer, Home Up and Sound Assistant.
This is the best combination that I've come up with so far :D

To be honest, Microsoft Launcher is really underrated. I've spent a whole day trying to apply the icons without changing the One UI launcher (I just love its feel so much), but Samsung makes it impossivle to install them without a custom launcher. And Microsoft Launcher is the closest thing you can get to it, with many perks of its own like wallpaper blur. I love my new setup!

[Microsoft Launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher&hl=en)
I can assure you that this uses very little battery and it is very light on your system.
Microsoft Launcher is really lightweight and is complete with what you need.
No one should dispute Windows having the more comfortable GUI, they might argue that Android could be as comfortable if you customise it. Speaking of, you should definitely give Microsoft Launcher a go, maybe even this Windows-themed launcher, granted they'll only change the homescreen, but they're a fun privilege. Microsoft Launcher is really good from experience, the other one I haven't tried.
I'm honestly quite comfortable with the apps, it's very rare that I find myself deprived of an app or feature that's found elsewhere. However, I do find myself needing multiple apps to complete one thing that should be done in one app/site.
The unlocking features thing is very common, it's everywhere. Browse Google and Microsoft's apps (/r/hailcorporate) in the play store and try to download whatever applications you need from the same developer. I never thought of myself giving this tip haha, it's generally pretty frowned upon to depend on those guys alone instead of helping smaller or newer developers, but honestly for now, it's the most efficient way to go, it's the best way to keep all your apps in sync (even though Google's trying to improve that on Android in general).
Try Android Messages

Android 11 is veery different from Android 12. A lot of people think that 12 brought a lot of "glossy" unfunctional design elements.
Luckily, Android is as customizable as it gets. Another launcher (Microsoft's is popular, you can deactivate it's internet access. Nova is another popular one) and something like Muzei will work wonders. There are also custom Iconpacks. As I said, Android is highly customizable.
That's Microsoft Launcher.

That isn't reductive. That's just stating what the operating system is.
I can't understand why some would mock Linux evangelists while simultaneously trying to deny that Android is Linux and OSX is Unix. Those are just facts.
Also Microsoft is investing millions in Linux, has a developer on the kernel team, most Azure instances run on Linux, Windows 10 has an official Linux subsystem, Microsoft has a Linux tablet coming out, and has a full launcher for Android.
Not that I'd ask teenagers on /r/games for insight into the tech industry, but the comments here are shockingly out-of-touch. They read like early 2000s usenet arguments.
The era of Linux already happened. Unix and Linux games massively outsell Windows ones. But here I am trying to explain this to people who think mobile games are somehow not real or pure enough.
No matter how in denial PC gamers are, Microsoft and Valve are well aware. Which is why Microsoft just converted Windows 10 to a subscription service, and Valve has spent the last decade trying to make sure they can exist in a post-Windows world.

You can simply try it. It's simpler than most other launchers, yet has handy features and widgets.
Microsoft needs to fork AOSP like Apple did back in the day for OSX with UNIX and just start making surface phones with deep integration into windows. They are big enough to write their own alternative to play services and can get the benefit of being able to run Android apps. They can also take the new OS is a different direction. They already have things like:
Well you can try Microsoft Launcher right now on most any android.
You can try the Ms launcher. It has all the widgets grouped into one page. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher

So I did this. I hopped ship to Outlook. com for my email. Installed the MS Launcher and use mostly MS apps in my day to day. My job uses Office 365 so everything is basically in one eco system now. It is pretty good for what it is. Worth a shot it is all free and you can just uninstall the launcher if you don't like it.

My preferred launcher is Microsoft Launcher, I use office apps a lot and this one gives me the most integrated experience on android. Backside of this was that I got a bad mixup of Google, Samsung (I'm on S7) and Microsoft widget color and font pallette. So I decided to customize my main screens to look kinda like Microsoft environment.

I'm up for suggestions on how could I make it more Microsofty or just any opinions from you guys.
I used KWGT for all widgets except the one with "Zadania" which is polish for "tasks" - that one is just to-do Microsoft app so I can sync my tasks up on all devices. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.todos
For calendar I modified ppicks "pixxy for kwgt", gave the cortana logo on top. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pixxy.kustom.pack
For the front page I made a greetings widget, clock and a search bar - all open Sans font, all in my language, all in kwgt. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget
The blue rings are inspired by Cortana, the one on the main screen is also a battery level indicator, which is pretty easy to make by yourself in kgwt.
Wallpaper is from Microsoft launchers built-into Bing wallpapers (similar to the one on windows log in screen), and it switches everyday to a different one.

Black and clean powered by Microsoft Launcher. https://cl.ly/215a6174c6b3
Not sure this is a viable replacement, but Microsoft does make a Launcher for Android phones.

Here it is for everyone that wants to try it.

Steps to use a Microsoft ecosystem in Android
Now tell me what the fuck is the EU thinking with this shit? How can Android be considered as diminishing choice in a world where Windows 10 and iOS exist?
No. But an alternative is to try the Microsoft launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
You can make the feed actually useful.
It's the Windows launcher. Here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
You're all wrong.
Microsoft Launcher has that option
Has it shown up for you now? I'm seeing it here
You need to install Microsoft launcher on your phone and give it the permissions it needs.
it's been revamped and has custom gestures and is cleaned up
Microsoft products actually work smoothly on iOS, but you are right that Android has the leg up on integration: Cortana can be set as the default assistant on Android; Microsoft Launcher (previously Arrow, a garage project and Microsoft centric iOS 10 home screen clone meets Android) exists, surfacing content from Microsoft services; Microsoft has two different lock screens in the garage, one of which is tailored towards professional use; They provide a custom clipboard app which works throughout the entire Android system; and Microsoft apps can be set as defaults.
By Androids nature, any Android phone can be a Microsoft phone, from browser, to clipboard, from keyboard, to home. iPhones can only be Apple devices with Microsoft services at best; their apps are the same, you can do the same things in them, but you still have to interface with Apple software from time to time.
Not the original commenter, but I'd say you should try the Microsoft Launcher Preview: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher&hl=en
They sort of did. I tried it out but Arrow just wasn't for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
They've kinda already done a replace-the-shell: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher&hl=en
Does Microsoft's Arrow Launcher count?
Arrow Launcher is the best
> I’d be the first adopter had it not been for a processor slower than my iPhone X
The processor cannot be compared directly, because Microsoft has apparently created several custom chipsets to do much of the heavy lifting. I imagine we'll know more after full breakdowns by others.
> gargantuan bezels that Microsoft loves for some reason
Because they are dedicated to the 3:2 ratio for Surface.
> and their shoddy hardware and lack of support.
Huh? Microsoft has some of the most downloaded and best reviewed apps on Android, including Microsoft Launcher, which the Duo runs, has been supported for years, and downloaded tens of millions of times.
I run Arrow Launcher, which I have found to be incredibly well made. It's clever in it's own way, and has all I need right on the homescreen. It has an app drawer, but I very, very rarely need it. Simply because one screen is dedicated to my most used apps. I imagine this system that LG is putting forward puts the most used apps at the top, meaning you'll get a similar effect.
I really do think that removing the app drawer can simplify things. It's just a matter of how you do it. Having dedicated screens isn't a bad idea; most people do it that way anyways, and you can't please everyone regardless.
Looks like the Microsoft Launcher
I highly suggest Microsoft Launcher.
