My take :)
EDIT: This is the icon pack I'm using :)
Heyyy guys I want to recommend a new app from this unknown indie dev, it's called Nova Launcher and even though it doesn't have a lot of customizations and optimizations like Go Launcher I really like it so you might want to try it out!
I use KLWP, which is pretty cool if you're interested in creating custom themes for your home screens.
It uses basically none of my battery, so I have no reason not to use it

>Download and install SystemUI Tuner from the Google Play Store. Register for the beta and update to it once you have enrolled.
>
>Open the app and enter the “TouchWiz” submenu.
>
>Navigate to the “Miscellaneous” dropdown menu, and set “Clock Position” to “Right”.

No problem!
So from the beginning:
PipDroid
Nova Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
UCCW: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.vineetsirohi.customwidget
Launch Nova Launcher go to Desktop and set the Desktop Grid to 7x5 and allow Enable Widget Overlap, as well as disabling the Dock and Notification Tray.
Launch PipDroid and choose the color to install. Exit the app.
Press and hold on your home screen and select Widgets.
Add any size UCCW widget.
From the UCCW menu select PipDroid [Color].
Resize the UCCW widget to fit at the bottom of your screen.
Presto!
If you have any questions just reply to this or message me!
Kustom Live Wallpaper allows me to do cool shit like This
and thats one of the more tame setups from when I just started using it. there is a big learning curve, but for complete home screen control, this is the app to be using.
As a workaround, you can recreate a far better and far more visually pleasing Spotify widget for your homescreen using KWGT pro and whatever skin you want.
for the 2nd or 3rd time today, I'm mentioning Kustom Live Wallpaper
I have cooked up a 95% custom setup, only borrowing the agenda layout (making a few tweaks myself). its incredibly functional for me, while looking pretty (IMO) and unique.
video of it in action sorry for the crappy 360P :/ just used the ROM's built in recorder.
Get nova launcher. From there you can long press the icons and click edit. You can change the icon. For this I am guessing he's using Mini icon pack!!

Edit: no idea what clock OP's using. I would recommend Timely but I'm just a guy on the Internet
I use Nova launcher prime, because of the stock android look and feel, and also because it doesn't get bloated with every new update.
Nova launcher let's you completely personalize your app display, and stuff it takes a bit to learn but you can resize icons and set a flexible grid so you can overlay icons and widgets if you'd like it also has handy dandy shortcuts you can make swipe gestures for example I have my swipe up on my phone icon dial my mom directly since I work with her and often need to contact her you can also make that swipe action on any icon open another app great for having an app accessible on your desktop without having the icon there... Ya know if you wanna hide something....

Yes, button mapper in the appstore. You can also keep the button and let it do other things, but have it require 2 presses or 3 so you don't keep bumping it.

Get a custom launcher, Nova the free version works just as well (albeit less customization).
If you don't want to get used to a whole other experience, or just want to stay on stock Android and change one icon, Awesome icons is your friend.
Funny you should ask this, I was just thinking about this in class the other day.
Ignore all these people saying you're screwed. You're part of the #androidmasterrace, this shit is trivial.
This is how I would do it:
Get Nova Launcher Prime. The free version will not suffice for this; you need Prime.
Download Kik, whatsapp, or some kind of messaging service for you and your girlfriend.
Get some kind of app that password protects apps.Perfect Applock looks good, but I only just tested it out quickly.
Password protect your chosen messaging app.
Assign that app to a swipe action to some random, innocent app like a calculator on your homescreen. To do this, long press on it, tap edit, and assign your messaging app to it. Now if you swipe up on the calc, it will open your messaging app instead. It will still open the calculator if you tap it.
Now go into Nova settings and hide the messaging app from appearing in your app drawer. Probably should hide Applock while you're at it. They will still appear if you go into settings and got into the apps section, but I bet you can hide them there too with root. Let me know if you want me to research that for ya.
Now when you swipe up on your calculator icon (or any app you choose), it will ask for a password, and then if correct it will open the messaging app where you can can message your girlfriend.
Best of luck, may DuARTe be with you. I can elaborate more if needed.
EDIT: You could also probably use Tasker to kill the app whenever you exit it so it won't show up in your recents
KWGT Kustom Widget Maker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget
KLWP Kustom Live Wallpaper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget
Hard to learn how to use with too few resources outside of dull youtube videos. But just start with KWGT and just put one kustom widget on your phone...
That's what I did. I could never make it look nice or how I wanted it to. So I would just fiddle with the confusing ass settings and I learned more and more and more...
And I learned so much that widgets became limitting. So I saw I could do a litte more with KLWP. More confusion at first but I pretty quickly dropped most of my widgets and put them as my wallpaper.
I spent so much time tinkering and fiddling with these two apps that I had to set limits. I now just have a plain, lightly textured, scrolling wallpaper with 1 clock and weather widget. I had so much fun with these though, truly.
With a launcher like Nova Launcher, there is an option under the Desktop category, under advance, to lock the screen which prevents any movement/deletion of apps.
You could also set to lock the desktop with a gesture, such as a clockwise rotating two fingers to toggle it on and off.
😉 thank you for asking
I'll update this comment with the links 🥰
Basically if you have Nova launcher (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher ) you can set any icons to any picture you want. Nova is free and I've been using it for a lot of years so I approve of it highly 👌
Then to make the actual icons I have something called ibispaintX (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.ne.ibis.ibispaintx.app ) that my partner recently showed me. It's like photoshop but for your phone and also free 😉
Then I upload a background shape + a flag I want to use (sometimes I upload 5 flags and see what looks good) + the icon I basically just screenshot from the appstore. Make sure to put the flag layer right above your background image and click the clipping button so the flag is shaped like the background. Then use the magic wand tool to select the icon image parts and duplicate the layer. Now delete that garbage old icon layer and adjust your icon to fit the background 😉🥰
Enjoy 😉
Ps. If you have 1 or 2 you want me to specifically make I can do it for you 😉😏😘
Nova Launcher is easily one of the best apps for Android, it allows for a wealth of customization to your launcher and can make your phone feel like a new device.
While the Prime version isn't necessary, it does open a lot more options and you might as well get it while it on offer at $0.99 (£0.50)
If you haven't already, definitely check out /r/androidthemes for some inspiration.
And also check out KWGT, made by the guy who made Kustom Live Wallpaper, now for widgets!
This is still a WIP, I just found out about KLWP and decided to do a little lifting to my phone..
What I used:
As I'm quite a broke CS student, I can't really justify the cost of the pro version to export a copy of my settings, but I can at least share how I did it.
First, go watch the app tutorial, the app GUI is not so intuitive at first so you might want to take a look on the official tutorial first. It will also teach you how to save and the basics....
Now, here we go! You can use globals for the colours, here are mine:
You can also use globals for some variables, like for the gradient effect used on the main buttons:
Menu buttons are from the material icon set, colored with menulvXf as foreground color, and menulvXg as gradient color.
Music controls are also from the material icon set and the font used is walkman IIRC.
If you need more specific details, feel free to ask!
I'd actually recommend you get Nova Launcher, it allows you to rename apps, but you can also change the icon, install icon packs, change the layout of your home screen including how many rows and columns of apps you have. You can eventually do stuff like this where each of those icons are actually folders. Mine is a little cluttered because I like it like this, but you can do pretty much anything you want.
Plus Nova is quicker than the default touchwiz on Samsung phones.
EDIT: Added a link to the launcher.
I've used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton to make a long press on my app switcher button effectively do this same thing. It'll be nice to have the option without a third party involved.
Kustom Live wallpaper is pretty crazy IMO.
sure, things seem simple, but you can go so in depth with animations and such, its pretty awesome and one of the first apps I'll install from now on.
I have a pretty simple setup for my home screen, but the other 2 pages flanking the main one have some nice animations and color changes and such....all baked into the wallpaper which seriously uses so little power i'm just baffled it can do everything as nicely as it can.
Ignore the popup telling you that you have to buy it, if you just close it the settings still work
Aside from being lightweight and feature rich, it is well supported by the developer and a crowd favorite for many years.
I think that's just the launcher you're using, it'll probably disappear if you install something else. Nova launcher is a good one.
Just sideload SmartTubeNext and use Button Mapper to override the Youtube button on the remote. Works pretty well, and no need for root.
I've heard you can also try remapping the home button to "hide" the ad-infested home screen, and use a custom launcher.
Would be nice to have an ad-free Google TV, but it works well enough to just use some jerry-rigged apps.
I just use Button mapper
if you are still struggling you can get Nova Launcher and then get the nova launcher companion
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en_US
https://help.teslacoilapps.com/nowcompanion
Yea, it's a new launcher, but it's one of the best launchers available.
Edit FWIW the wallpaper I posted and many more like it are available through Backdrops.
An android for really tech unfriendly people is the best by a long shot. If it's set up by someone who knows what they're doing and knows the person.
You can use launchers like these to really simplify things for them. Make iPhones and windows phones look like spaceships in comparison.
Ideally you use a highly customisable launcher like Nova Launcher, hide everything they won't use and show everything they will use. You can customize so much. So say they only ever call the same 3 people. Instead of the dialler or contacts. Set 3 icons on the homepage that instantly call these 3 people and set the icons with the persons face. Stuff like that. Android tablets can be very cheap aswell because honestly what's the point on spending big bucks on a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab or whatever.
Isn't this literally just the Min icon pack from Android....?
Edit: sigh. I actually own Min which is why I noticed quite quickly. But yeah, here are some of the icons OP is trying to pass off as his, straight from Min's icon pack.
Alter vadda!

Cheers and have fun.
Yeah, get a different provider that doesn't force their own name on your statusbar.
But, seriously: Get the SystemUI Tuner app. You do need access to a computer to use it, but it's worth it. And do what milan87 said, change your display size.
Hate the Bixby button, but I used Button Mapper to remap it to turn the flashlight on and off.
The camera when taking still shots isn't the best compared with other phones I've seen, but it is one of the best. The 4K is really good, including the sound.
It's stupid overpowered and can even run a specialized Ubuntu environment using Dex (I only set it up to try it out, I don't actually use it).
If you really wanted to, you could use a laptop dock and use it like a portable laptop.
Wireless charging is nice, headphone jack is nice.
I do hate that Samsung took away the vertical recents menu. It's horizontal scrolling now like iPhones. I don't think it makes a lot of sense considering it's easier (for me anyway) to scroll up and down with my phone using one hand.
That's another thing, the phone is huge. I probably use two hands with it more often than I do one, especially if I'm over a surface that could break the phone if I dropped it.
It's KWGT. It's not a launcher per se, but an app that lets you customize widgets and put them in your launcher. It's commonly used with Nova Launcher:
There's another alternative called Zooper Widgets, with similar results.
There're tutorials about how to use and configure this tool in XDA-Developers and or /g/ (Technology, in 4chan), or even in their website.
Greetings
Congrats on the transition! My highest recommendation is to download Nova Launcher Prime. I don't buy a lot of apps but this one is the best $5 I've spent as an android user.
It allows you to customize so much of the experience. It has its own sub and here is a good example of the flexibility of it
I had the exact same thought and I actually messaged the developer about it and his response was he purposefully didn't implement it because people might enable it by accident and become frustrated or upset when they couldn't access their other pages.
The only possible workaround to enable the functionality you might be looking for is by using Kustom Live Wallpaper. I know it won't be the most elegant solution, but you can most likely get something to work.
I personally ended up abandoning the idea and going for something more simple and useful (using KLWP), but I hope that clears things up and helps in some way.
Sure no problem.
KLWP is a live wallpaper maker. You can create cool stuff with it. It also has animations and amazing dev support.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.wallpaper
There are some good free presets on play store for this as well.
I've got nothing going on today besides a casual day at work. If you aren't opposed to using Nova I can guide you how to build this on your own. Not looking for cash
There is a free and paid version. You need a Launcher like Nova Launcher to install it. It replaces your app icons and has wallpapers that you can apply. The full versions have an animated live wallpaper.
Icon pack: Whicons
I've gone through a couple of icon packs but stuck with this one for the moment. Also if anyone has any wallpaper recommendations for whicons I would love that.
I used this one here to remap to toggle my fleshlight, without root using adb.
Edit: it does occasionally still launch assistant annoyingly enough
Looks like you need to install the KLWP app for Android here, then get the pro version for $5 to be able to import this theme. I just bought it after realizing everything it can do. Gonna have some fun figuring this out.
SystemUI Tuner, in the app store by Zachary Wander allows you access to LG V30 UI tuner. I use it to disable most notifications I dont like (unfortunately you still cant remove AT&T logo without root). He updates weekly, and has a git you can post bugs/requests too as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner&hl=en
I had a 6P. I actually wouldn't go back to stock Android now. TouchWiz/Grace UX/whatever they want to call it this week has come a really, really long way in the last 3 generations or so.
Knox, and everything that it enables, has really become a key feature for me. The only thing I really missed was having SystemUI Tuner, but there's an app for that now and it doesn't require root.
You can also go with a GUI interface thanks to u/zacharee1
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner
Also allows you to get rid of the pesky heads up notifications so that they're confined to the secondary screen.
This app works very nicely on my S8 - you have to give it an extra permission using ADB but you don't need to be rooted. YMMV.
The default launcher doesn't support that. You can use Nova Launcher with TeslaUnread to get what you want.

Thanks for the plug! You can also use a launcher such as Nova Launcher. I'll be updating that album with Fjorm's new art after tonight's app update.
Sticking to Reddit users, I appreciate u/zacharee1 and u/damianpiwowarski quite a bit for making fairly unique apps in System UI Tuner and Adapticons, respectively.
My S6 is just a dream, never had a better phone. Got it rooted, added a custom home screen framework ("Nova", learn it, love it, use it), and a Otterbox Defender shell, which is slimmer and nicer than ever.
Almost all of them do, but I recommend Nova Launcher. Also, it starts out pretty clean and simple like stock android so that's also easy for them to figure out.
Edit: links
An option is to download a launcher like Nova (you'll need the $5 premium version).
Nova will let you swipe down from anywhere to pull down the notification bar.
Sure it would, but I like to micromanage. This way I have complete control over when and how it polls for data, and I can integrate the task in several other contexts as well, as for example when I have it send weather information to my text widgets in Kustom. Plus, the Tasker way is more fun!
Wow that was quick! Lol I just made this wallpaper. Clean homescreen. It's currently the Wall of the Day in my Backdrops app. I love seeing the setups but you're not supposed to share the wall file outside of the app. I know it's impossible to enforce but would appreciate it if you could remove the direct drive link
Single press - ILoveYouBuzz
Double Press - Screenshot
Long Press - Toggle vibrate mode
Set up using Button Mapper.
ILoveYouBuzz is discontinued I believe since its no longer available on the play store. It allows me to pair with my SO's phone and vibrate it 3 times with the underlying meaning I love you. Easier than typing on a messaging app. We use it easily 50+ times a day. 4 years of using it (by sideloading now), (Also just wanted to show my appreciation of the app.)

You can try using Button Mapper. It doesn't need root, I personally use it to remap my hardware/on-screen keys. I did set Double-tap Recents button to take screenshot.

I've been a stock HTC Sense kinda guy for a very long time. But, I feel like i'm ready to move on now. Mostly for two apps, though only one really made me switch. And that was Kustom live wallpaper maker. (Or something like that.)
I got prompted by a snobby friend to use it, as he was setting up his homescreen in class, and it was so stylish, yet simple. It got lots of neat features, but the main one was that I could finally get a music player on my homescreen, since Poweramp doesn't come with a widget for some reason, and the supposed link to the app store didn't work either. Nor could I search and find anything remotely good enough to be used.
So I played around, and now I got this fancy(imo) little media player that appears when I start playing music. When it's not playing, then there's just a play button on the screen. And also works much better than the notification controls for Poweramp, because since i got Nougat, it sometimes get stuck on the last songs title... or doesn't update the play/pause button to reflect when music is paying or not.
The downside, was you needed Nova launcher,(or some other ones, i don't know.) So i made the switch from stock sense. First time, since i tried Prolauncher and a few others, either on my HTC Sensation or the Desire(if it was even possible.) Stuck with stock Sense launcher for along time. So far, the only big downside is losing some system apps styles, as well as the home button doesn't take me to the main home screen, and i don't see a setting to change that.
Hello all. I have finally released the Watch_Dogs 2 theme I had on my phone that I showcased a few months back. I will update the file/images accordingly with people's suggestions/critique. Here are directions on how to get these to your cellphone. Or I should say "here is how I did it". First off I transferred the images using a program called air droid, which is compatible for both android and apple OS. Once all the files are on your phones, then you can start the process of changing your app icons. Unfortunately I do not know anything about customizing apple's UI, that will have to be up to you if you have one. I used a 3rd party launcher for when I changed the app icon looks. Nova Launcher Prime was what I used as it is very user friendly when it comes to complete customization like what was created in WD2 in game phone UI. There are plenty of tutorials for just about any 3rd party launcher for smart phones if you get stuck. If you have questions, I should be able to answer them. The followers bar which I actually used as a battery bar on my phone was completely done with a android app program called (KWGT)[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget&hl=en] I did not included the followers bar as that is something you will have to create yourself. However, I did include the 3 little skulls the sit on top of that bar. 2 versions, one clean and one more pixelated. I am not going to be able to get the game, so I will not be able to do any updates of what the games in game UI phone has unless I catch it on a youtube video, or something points me to images/links, whatever - etc. Any chance I get the game will probably be in like 4 years when target has it for 20 dollars or less.
Thank you all and I apologize for the long wait.
I'm thinking solve this with home screen widgets. No app, just the buttons you want.
Depending on how much time you want to put into it, you could use KLWP or similar to make the widgets look and work exactly like you want.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.wallpaper
Found it. Called whicons.
You need a custom launcher to do that (as well as a lot of other things, like changing the grid layout of your home screen).
I use Nova Launcher.
Yes you need an app called kustom. Once you have downloaded the file and kustom, move the file to storage/kustom/wallpapers and then go into custom and click import. Then just set kustom as your wallpaper. If you need anymore help I'm happy to!
Nova launcher has for years been the most stable. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en_US

I'm working on figuring that part out. I'm using KWGT to do it and you need the pro version to customize. I'll post an update when I figure out how to add this to the Play Store.
Yes in order for it to work properly you have to enable usb debugging which is kind of a process, and you can use any package disabler. Go to system and disable every app with bixby in the name except for "bixby voice"

Check system ui tuner. It won't change your phone completely but you can adjust some small things like speed of animation with accuracy of 0.01, icons in statusbar, lockscreen shortcuts etc

On the XZ1c these can be fixed with 3rd party apps and ADB commands. Try it on the XZ2c maybe?

That System UI tuner app is great. It does a lot that the native system UI tuner can't, including disabling heads-up notifications (although I still haven't figured out how to get my beloved Kitkat ticker back).
Haven't noticed the maps/calls black screen myself, but I rarely use my phone as an actual phone, so there's that...
From left to right: Rotation lock - HiFi audio - Vibration mode - Mobile data
I personally used SystemUI Tuner to remove unwanted icons (rotation lock, bluetooth, NFC)
If I'm not mistaken, most of the standalone Icon Packs that're on google play are for alternate launchers such as Nova, which is an entire different level of customization. It's been fairly popular with Samsung users because very few people liked touchwiz, which is/was Samsungs default launcher.
Combination of Nova Launcher Prime and Lines - Icon Pack Pro!
you can use an alternate launcher, I've been using Nova Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en since lolipop I also have developer options enabled to make animations run faster, animation scale 0.5x (complete the animation in half the time compared to default)
Hope this is allowed on this sub, sorry in advance if it isn't!

I'm not sure if something like Nova Launcher will allow for this on stock Android. As for myself when I'm looking at the quick toggles there is one there to lock into portrait/allow for auto-rotate. Silent mode is a point of contention in Lollipop, if you press your volume button you'll get options for None, Priority and All. None is essentially silent mode but it will mean your alarm won't notify you.
Nova Launcher (among others) have a lot of customisations for your home screen and also the app drawer, definitely check it out. Play Store Link!
Don't think so but if I'm in the pull down menu looking at notifications then that's what I'm focused on, personally never considered what the other part of the screen looks like when I'm dealing with the notification shade.
Make sure in the Google Play store settings you've selected auto update by WiFi only (though I'm sure you already have). Personally I've never had that same issue you did. I too have hit update on an app only to see it is a large update and have hit stop. From my experience what happened to you is not normal.
I don't use DoublTwist personally so I can't help with those points I'm afraid, though I'm pretty sure DoubleTwist have a desktop client, perhaps that would help?
I can say that Google Play Music both on the web and on the device I've had an easy time making playlists there.
Protip: if you're like me and hate the persistent alarm icon, you can remove it with System UI Tuner.
In the app, go to Status bar, disable alarm clock icon and rotation lock icon and you're set.
Galaxy gets my vote, and if you do I recommend downloading the Nova Launcher for a different look/feel. It also lets you get cool icon packs which change how your app shortcuts look, I downloaded the long shadow icon pack.
Alternatively System UI Tuner appears to have this function built in.
System UI Tuner is a great tool for many different modifications I use.
I used button mapper and made long press volume down button to summon assistant and long press volume up to bring up split screen.
Here's the app
It takes some practice and a little bit of coding skill if you want to work beyond the preset components (basic clocks, date displays, battery percentage bars, etc.) but I really enjoy using it!
You can also do that using System UI Tuner from the play store.
Still need adb, but it's a nice gui for a ton of little tweaks.
I bought a pair and I'm going to return them. I think I'll hold off for some Assistant-enabled Bose buds or something else. The fit was a bit too uncomfortable for me. Audio quality was surprisingly good, and I did like the assistant, but I think I'd like some hardware from a trusted audio manufacturer.
Also, you can use this app to change tracks, btw. you can set the volume buttons to next and previous on double-tap and those commands carry through to the buds. So you'd double-swipe forward and back to change tracks.
That's the closest and slickest one I've found, but to be honest it'll never be the same. I found it more satisfying to embrace Material Design and I've gone for Nova Launcher and Pixxo icon pack
