I keep things simple. I use the Minimalistic Text: Widgets to display weather, temperature, and location in a small box under the system tray clock. Then I have date on the left. The colors change based on the time (sort of a new thing I'm trying).
I simply don't see the point in huge widgets taking up so much space. Also, I don't see the point in a clock widget when there's a clock on the top right, clear as day.

When you say get text from web address, do you mean html? Minimalist Text is a good widget maker if you want to just display text.
I started periodically pulling data from the car and using Minimalistic Text: Widgets to create widgets showing the data.
For example I have a widget that updates hourly showing the charge level.
I also set up an alert to notify me if the car isn't charging 5 minutes after the scheduled charing time, just in case something went wrong or I forgot to plug in.
The only information I want frequently enough to have it routinely updated on my phone home screen is my calendar, in agenda format. My widget of choice for this is Calendar Widget by Plus One Labs. It's no longer available in the Play Store but I keep transferring it from device to device as I upgrade. On a vehicle-mounted tablet I have the battery temperature, for which I use Minimalistic Text, and Tasker.
This is possible if you use an app which lets you create widgets that link to a specific activity.
Minimal Text is one that I know off which lets you do this. For each oftheir widgets you can modify the tap behaviour and you can choose activity from all apps including Settings.
You could use something like Minimalistic Text, and set it up yourself. It's can be a bit complicated to set up, but it's very flexible.
Well first I replicated my old home screen with Nova Launcher. From there I just browsed the settings to discover what it could do differently and slowly made changes over a few days. The best part is that none of this requires root.
Changed the background
Condensed apps I use frequently into folders, removed others
Changed my icon grid to 5x5 (not counting bottom dock) and spaced it out a bit
Built the time and weather widgets with Minimalistic Text (very customizable, you can even download your own fonts). Tapping the clock opens my alarms.
Added Relay and the app drawer as gestures instead of icons (swipe up and two finger swipe down respectively)
Changed the icons with Lines Free Icon Pack
Removed page indicator (only have one page now anyway), and set status bar to autohide.
This isn't even my final form.
Anyway, I need to go trim my beard and take a shower before I head to work. Toodles.
It's called Minimalistic Text.
I linked it with a Tasker task that calculated the 'days left'.
All the other info (time, date & weather) can be pulled by the Minimalist Text app itself. I just manually set my location to Boulder (so it picks up the local weather) and timezone to Mountain Time GMT-7 (to get the correct date and time).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext for the date and time, with slightly customizing the text. I only have the icon pack for my homescreen. The app drawer are standard icons
Cant really do that, Mine hooks into my custom Touchwiz themeing framework built into my rom.

So, This is what i use on my tablet, It actually has more features than mine.
Minimalistic Text integrates well enough with Tasker (instructions at the bottom of the description) and getting the last, say, 5 lines of a file is as simple as using the Code/Run Shell
action to execute tail -n 5 /path/to/log
. Store that in a variable, wire it up to MT, and have the task kicked off whenever your log file changes using the File/File Modified
event.
I'm a big fan of minimalist text widget. A lot of the presets are pretty ugly but it's ridiculously customizable.
I'm learning Spanish so I have the current date and day of week on my home screen in Spanish, but it does all kinds of stuff; weather, calendar events, a.. clock. Plus whatever static icons or text you want to add.

I used Minimalistic Text: Widgets

Completely free!
Here you can design your own widgets. I selected the 6x1 widget layout, then created my own barcode battery percentage monitor. This app is awesome for creating widgets to fit your style. Try it out.
I paid $1.89 to support development because of how great it is. It also removes the ads during the developmental stages of building your widgets. Never ads on the widgets you build. Just the platform you build the widgets on.
Enjoy!
Widget is Minimalist Text Icon Pack is Min
Cool idea, how about this one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext&hl=en Or you could probably get what you want with a bit of work with UCCW: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.vineetsirohi.customwidget&hl=en

By Minimalist Text Widget, do you mean this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext
It looks like widgets added using zooper or uccw app.

Icon pack is my work, every single icon. Wallpaper modeled in Onshape, blended in CadAssistant. The only widget is Minimalistic Text Widget. Rest - NavBar buttons,Notification panel with additional text infos - Tasker
IIRC last update in 2012 ;-)
But maybe this is worth mentioning it:
Removed Ads from Minimalistic Text.
The time has come to put Minimalistic Text in 'legacy mode'.
There are many alternatives to Minimalistic Text that are more modern and have a much richer feature set.
Thank you all for the ride! It has been a pleasure!

My personal favorite is Minimalistic Text: Widgets - now free
I've had this idea of automatic drop shadows on icons, and I thought one easy way of doing that is to use a font for the icons. So I've been playing with this for the past couple of days, and when I saw the contest, I decided it's just a perfect fit.

Clock font: Work Sans Thin
Date font: Work Sans Light
Icon text font: Kumbh Sans Light
Icon Font: Font Awesome
I made all elements with the Minimalistic Text: Widgets app.

It lets you add quotes to your homescreen.. Not sure about file importing though
Minimalistic Text: Widgets is a great option as-well :)
Minimal Text works well with Tasker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext
So this.
I found this wallpaper the other day so I made a widget with a little black square using Minimalistic Text and the terminal scanline font using a 2px blur that exactly matches (I know the red is off)
To-do list is to actually make the little square black in PS and them get the widget to fit properly (and correct RGB for colour), but this was sort of a "I wonder if this would work" hack job...
I use a widget called Minimalist Text Widgets.
It has many different custom widget options you can create, I personally use two on my main screen to display the weather and battery. Also, you can set them to open certain apps when you tap the icon you create. Takes a little fine-tuning to get it how you want, but is a cool, non-invasive, widget option.
Here's my homescreen, I used an old screenshot The two bits of text at the top are my two widgets, blurred out my city location.
I also have my clock widget set to open my alarms when I click the clock, and set to open my calendar when I click the date underneath it. That one is Digital Clock Xperia Widget.
There is Minimalist Text widgets. Which can emulate some frequently used rainmeter skins

I can upload my settings file somewhere if you want, I actually just changed it to roboto mono and it looks much better.
That was made with Minimalistic Text Widgets
They are text label widgets made with Minimal Text
Main widget is Minimalistic Text, I think I can share the settings if anyone really wants it. Weather is from Weather Timeline and music is Spotify. Background is from Muzei Earth View and the icons are KMZ Material. Nova Launcher.
Minimalistic text

It's actually two widgets- both are from Minimalistic Text. One has the hour, and the other is the minutes.
Looks like it is this, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext
I have it on my phone, it's pretty awesome.
