Sorry, forgot to post it!
IP Webcam. You need to install another small program in your computer to get it recognized as a webcam.
I've used it a while ago for similar reasons and it works even better now. You can use it for a ton of different tasks! Security cam with motion detection and so on.
I really wanted to like it, but when comparing it to the note 9, it falls flat for me.

Pixel 3 has a third less RAM, no headphone jack, no SD card slot (I'm too used to my 128GB card) and it's all glass which is really stupid for anything carried everywhere.
I'm sure a lot of people will like it, but it's a no for me, dawg.
Solid Explorer is pretty good, can handle a lot of compressions and even has root explorer. I was in the same boat as you using ES and then getting raped by bloat.

I've been using Sync since i switched to android. I've tried using others but honestly I always go back to Sync

As other people have mentioned, you can fully change your Android home screen to be anything you like. Even this.
No dark theme and it's really only useful for some things. Use excel keyboard for excel and your normal one for everything else.
Keyboard for excel: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.keyboardforexcel
uTorrent is a used-to-be-light client. It's not any more, and while the ads may not bother you, there's really no reason why you should support them.
I would personally recommend Deluge. It's light, fast, extensible (Python!), and open source. Cross platform on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Screen shot: http://i.imgur.com/51msw5z.png
The Xperia X Premium was announced in 2016 or so. Had it come to market, it would have had a smaller screen with higher screen resolution, nearly double the megapixels of the camera, and just as much RAM as a phone released two years later.
If you're going to compare apples to androids, you should be looking at something in the same price range and released around the same time, like the LG V40:
https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v40_thinq-9300.php
Bigger screen with higher resolution, higher megapixel camera with the same 4K recording ability, twice the RAM and a bigger battery.
So yes. I am sure.
I was going to make a crack about "xGB RAM isn't enough to display a 10MB image file?!?", but apparently apple no longer even lists how much RAM an iphone has on their specs page.
Probably too many people who can't understand storage and memory are two different specs and "want the one with the most gee-bees"
adaway imo. It's best ad blocker for rooted phones that I have seen.
Also if you fancy going to 4chan, f-droid also has up to date clover, which Is imo best 4chan app. It got removed from Google play
Wanted to give some answers that nobody else seems to have covered.
As for security,
edit: Just realized my points on security are more like points on privacy. As long as you aren't installing sketchy apps you should be fine.
Samsung doesn't use "stock" Android, their TouchWiz interface has a poor reputation among purists. If you install the Now Launcher, you'll get something much closer to what it's meant to be. Or try different launchers until you find something you like. There are even iOS-like launchers, if you miss that.
Emoji are saved in the system font files, which cannot easily be updated via the Play Store. Luckily Hiroshi Lockheimer (the senior vice president for Android, Chrome OS and Chromecast) confirmed that they are working on the new emojis.
Some apps, for example Telegram, have the emoji built-in the app, so they already have the newest emoji available.
Been using bxactions since I got the phone and it has been working fine without root.
I have my Bixby button cycle through sound, vibration, and silent. Holding down the Bixby button activates Google voice search. Also when I double click and hold, it turns on the flashlight.
The S6 shouldn't even need a flashlight app. If you insist on getting one, look for one whose icon is a monocolor light blue lightning bolt. Link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.movetoios
Apple's "move to iOS" app that basically transfers your data to an iPhone if you're switching over. App itself works just fine, but people are bombarding it with bad reviews because they think Apple and iOS are bad. Funny thing is, you have to install it first before you can review it...
Winterboard is a theming engine, not a launcher. http://cydia.saurik.com/package/winterboard/
And when you jailbreak, you install Cydia, which is Saurik's alternate app store based on Canonical's PPA system.
There are no custom launchers on iOS, there are many addons for Springboard, but no full replacements since it is so essential to the OS it can't be removed.
Thanks for the explanation. I also went on Google now to check what slow sync actually is and how it works. But it definitely sounds like it's possible to do just with software...
So I went on and downloaded the good old Camera FV-5 on my Pixel XL. And voila - Slow sync flash is also available there. So I'm pretty sure it's a software thing and older iPhones should be able to do it, too.
I'm gonna try it tonight when it's darker, if I remember.
You may want to delete the official facebook app(s) to save your battery life, try the app Swipe instead.
The official apps eat up a surprising amount of processing power and battery life (90% sure it's spying related) all in the background, you don't even need to open it up.
To show him some of the customization, I'd recommend downloading Nova launcher (or another launcher if you'd like) and installing a different icon pack. I think polycon is a good choice with material design influences to replace Touchwiz's icons (aka what most people think Android phones look like.) You don't even have to make it look all nice and professional. You can maybe even get a themed icon pack based on some series or video game he likes, for example. Make his phone look like it's from Evangelion, or something
You can do it, but you have to have to have to pay a monthly fee for YouTube Red, while Android users can do it for free. I believe there are some workarounds if you do not want to pay:
I think the iPad might be able to as with a 3rd party app. Netflix uses the picture-in-picture feature, so I'm assuming someone's made an app to do the same for YouTube.
iPhones do not have picture-in-picture (although that might change in IOS 13). There's probably some workaround [Yes, there is], but you have to use Safari with YouTube's desktop site, which is a nuisance, and not everyone knows about it.
>I like minimalist UIs
If by "remote control" you're referring to apps that let you use your phone as a TV remote, I use AnyMote myself. It's a little expensive as far as apps go, but it's worth it. You can even set macros that combine commands from multiple devices. Unlike a few apps you may find (though like many others) it uses a device's built-in IR emitter rather than requiring an external device. I believe they do make an external device that it works with though as another option.
You should try out Facebook Lite. It wasn't released in the US (developing nations only), but it has everything bundled the way FB used to be. Granted it's not flashy like the main app, but it doesn't eat up half your CPU.
If you see web browsers that are very small (less than a few megabytes), they are using WebView, which is a minimal (but functionally complete) version of Chrome. Most of the default browsers also use WebView. It is also used to display webpages in normal apps (Sign-on page etc).
If you use such, I highly suggest you to install the newest version of (Google) WebView because the preinstalled one is out of date.
To update, download the latest Google WebView, choose "Google WebView" (instead of the preinstalled AOSP one) in developer options, and uninstall the preinstalled one.
Download link for .apk here
Zedge is the most popular and easy to use app to find new ringtones and notification sounds. I'm pretty sure you can find anything you want there.
There's this thing called "Launchers" in Android. It is basically a way to customize the way your phone looks however you want. They are really easy and fun to use once you get the hang of it. The most preferred launcher is Nova.
I don't know a spesific iOS-like icon pack, but you can head over to Google Play and search for "icon pack". There you'll find hundreds of icon packs. They are either free or really cheap. You can download one you like and apply it through the launcher's settings.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy your phone
I installed senior home screen Play Store
It easy to setup and hard to break. I tried wiser before and it kept glitching and would prevent her apps from launching.
For me? Faster copy and paste with ctrl c and ctrl v, and faster text editing with arrow keys and a shift, ctrl, alt, home, end, and tab keys.
It's mainly used for shell commands using an app like this
I just like having a full keyboard lol
I use KLWP: Kustom Live Wallpaper, it allows for a fully custom interface that you can interact with, that you can make yourself. It's fully customizable, to the point where it's kind of insane. And I use that with the Cards for Kustom kustom live wallpaper that is material card based, I've edited a bit to (IMO) clean it up even more :)
Yep.
Xposed Framework - http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
and then install Snapprefs - a module for the Xposed framwork - http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.marz.snapprefs
Has two modes - autosave - saving all snapchats when viewed - or swipe to save. Both modes save snaps to folders sorted by sender. Also allows you to save stories and/or regular snaps.
Also has a bunch of features for making your sent snaps look cooler, multi-line text, custom font settings, etc. Allows you to send images from gallery as snapchats or post to story.
Pretty great module all around.
First of all, are you rooted? If so, you might want to look at your kernel governor settings.
Barring that, check for wakelocks. Try using GSam to check for screwy stuff.

If you have a Canon DSLR, you can use the otg with the DSLR Controller app for tethered shooting and photo transfers without removing the SD card. I've used this for a few years now. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller
And here's a tutorial on how to use this to play runescape, cause why not?: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/2t0deo/guide_oldschool_runescape_running_on_pure_android/?sort=confidence

Check out iExplorer, it let's you manage files on an idevice manually without going through iTunes. Havent used it in a couple of years (thank Durante) but the site says it's updated.
It is on Amazon! :D ALSO I was wrong about it being 440. It's actually 539 on Amazon. Sorry! Here it is
But at the end of the day, it's all up to you.
What blew my mind when if first found it is that you can use your Android to provide a bootable image to the PC with this. When I made a fresh install on my dad's PC I hadn't have any storage devices at all with me and this really helped me out.
AZ Screen recorder is pretty decent. I have also used Mobizen. these won't record directly to your computer iirc, but you can save the file and transfer it to your computer.
I've had to deal with this a fair bit when traveling and I need photos from my Mum's iPhone, this is the most elegant solution I've found.
Wiser simple launcher is what I gave to my grandmother to use and she has had very minute issues with it. It's very easy to use and is BIG. Definitely worth having a look at.

Apple has an app for transferring all your data from an Android device to an Apple device, which is what the message is alluding to.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.movetoios
Maybe this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.capitalone.mobile.wallet&hl=en
Not sure if it works with root though.
But I doubt that Samsung and Android Pay could work through a 3rd party app. It's not open for developers, I'm sure the banks would not allow that because it could open Android and Samsung Pay users to vulnerabilities.
There is a camera app that has manual controls on it. i haven't tried it out myself but I have heard some good things about it. It costs 2.99USD however. Regardless here is the link to it in the play store if you are curious:
I set everything up manually with debootstrap/chroot back then (it's been a year and I've switched phones ever since), I use Linux Deploy now.
i understand that. the only company that makes launchers that i completely trust is TeslaCoil Software (nova launcher) but if you want to try out the windows 8 launcher heres the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lx.launcher8
Screenshot each page you want to stitch up. And use Image Combiner from the Playstore (Make sure to press on the picture after you load it in and set it to native quality)
Edit:Added link
I once spend a whole day trying to figure this out...without success.
I emailed the created of this app that it didn't work, and he wrote back that he will update it sometime with better speeds and compatibility.
Nope. You've got root, so install an app like SetCPU ($2 USD), and monitor/fine-tune things with Kernel Adiutor.
you could try qksms, it is fairly similar and i believe right now you can get the pro version for free. Edit: never mind the promo is over for the pro version for free
Nova Launcher is a very customizable Android launcher. It can completely change the look and feel of your Android device. It's default settings make your Android phone resemble a stock Android device. Bear in mind this does not change the look and feel of the system that is the status bar icons, the settings app and the system apps such as the browser. You can also change the look of the icons using various icon packs that are available on the Play Store.
>What are some immediate upgrades if I switch? What kind of conveniences can I expect?
Wiki, Google Now is sick, lollipop looks really nice, more freedom: a lot of the stuff you jailbroke for can be done on stock android eg. Icon packs, nova launcher. Something to note is if you're in the USA on a carrier you can expect some serious bloatware(can be disabled but not removed). Also every android manufacturer adds their own skin on stock (pure) android which can change performance, battery life, looks and add features for the better or worse. You might not like some skins but you can change the looks with themes (GS6 will have a theming engine without root) or just get a new flavour by flashing a custom ROM
>With the iPhone the main reason I jail broke was for split screen and tethering. Are these features standard on android phones?
Tethering yes, split screen don't think so, but easily acquired
>Any android smartphone recommendations?
HTC One M9 for design/sound, Galaxy Note for large size, Sony Z3/ Z3 compact for waterproofing/small size, LG G3 for QHD display, Nexus 6 for pure android, Oneplus One for cost. Reply with ideal size and special features you would want like waterproofing etc and I'll narrow it down.
I had to do this when I learned to turn off my various alarm clocks in my sleep. Not a good talent to have!
Every so often I have to change my alarm tone to something different so it jolts me awake to something I'm not used to. Right now my setup is
I think the next step for me is to put my alarm clock on the other side of my room, so I have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. I still think I would somehow justify lying back down with my half-asleep logic some days, though.
Limelight streams games from your PC over your network to your Android device. It uses the same technology as nVidia Shield since they made it open source.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.limelight
Edit: Oh and it only works with nVidia cards 600 series and up if I remember correctly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod
Though, I'm using a GS4, idk how it works on the other devices, but they're almost all snapdragons then I guess it's similar
I use FS Explorer for FTP. You can set up wither a client or server. Pretty straightforward from the few times I've used it. If you need more help, I suppose this video could help.
Just make him read this post https://medium.com/@ernopp/i-left-android-for-ios-and-instantly-regretted-it-dc2fd347ad46 There is listed pretty much every reason why you do not want to downgrade to iPhone, heck I would rather buy old nokia series 40 phone from early 2000 than iPhone.
I don't mean that Samsung's TouchWiz is bad (although I don't personally like it). I mean it in the way that you can't compare Windows or macOS to Linux, because Linux is a kernel. The GUI itself is called a Linux flavour. Ubuntu is a flavour, Debian is a flavour, etc. etc. Oh, and Android is also a Linux flavour!!
Now, if you decide to compare iOS to TouchWiz, then it's a fair argument. But the fact that people actually treat TouchWiz as the Android is not a fair argument. If you want to see the real difference, you can try installing an x86 release of Android onto a virtual machine. I actually was shocked when I noticed how good the stock Android is.
tl;dr Samsung is not the Android, as many Apple users would start imagining. (The debates I've heard have been all about "Samsung being THE Android")
XHaloFloatingWindow or XMultiWindow, and almost certain since they should call the same functions and backwards compatibility is a large point of android.
AdAway is the best Adblocker for Android. It blocks ads in the browser and in applications: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway
This looks like it should help you root: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-install-twrp-and-root-moto-x-pure-2015-xt1575/
I have. Why do you think I consider it clickbait?
Because it cuts off content. It rehosts content and adds more ads than any person would touch.

OsmAnd+. I only really use Google Maps for local bus schedules (the city provides open data for bus schedules so this could theoretically be used for local apps, but they maintain the Google data directly). The OpenStreetMap data absolutely kicks Google Map's ass what comes to walking and bicycling and sometimes store/point of interest coverage. Highway coverage is also bloody excellent. Also, OsmAnd+ does offline maps without hitches.
As far as I can tell the offline OsmAnd files get updated every 2 weeks or so. OpenStreetmappers seem to do pretty good work with constructions in urban areas. Though less so in less populated areas.
EDIT 2. Table http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/
Pretty much the only reason I did was the mp3 conversion. My best friends Aunt was getting rid of all her CD's and wanted to rip them to digital format so I had to convert them all to mp3. Got paid with like $100, and a few goodies like a Shadows Fall hoodie that I still have.
Edit: to answer the other part of your question, it obviously is a bit limited but it's not "paywalled" from the reaction that I get out of the word. Since you downloaded from itunes and those are in mp3 anyway there isn't much of a reason for you to get gold other than to support development. I got it when it was on sale for the $25 lifetime license at some point (like a decade ago) ORIGINALLY found it because I had been trying to find something to replace itunes with and when my ext hdd failed I had to get my music off my Ipod classic somehow, the auto organize saved my life because I had A LOT of music. Fell in love and bought the gold just in time for that CD project.
I get what you're saying, and while I disagree, I certainly have no sympathy for iTunes. You could try something like MusicBrainz Picard, which will tag your music based on filename and the music itself, before importing it.
I haven't checked out file syncing programs in a while, but back when I had to do it a lot, my favorite program was FreeFileSync. Did a great job of only transferring the files that were updated or new, and should work for your purposes.
After a quick research I found out that pkm go works on android 5.1.1. I think your problem is that you're rooted.
Download this app and send me the result to be sure.
Memory Map graphically shows you what's using up so much space. It's not been updated in years but seems to work fine for me so far.
You're joking right?.... here's the Amazon link for India....the only exclusive Samsung phone in America are those superhero ones...

I primarily use ZPN Connect because:
1) They are the only one which use SSL protocol (helps bypass public networks which block the standard connection types).
2) No crap with it, half of the ones I've used connect slowly to their servers and keep telling u to get their paid service (even though they can still be used for free) after some days.
If u don't need a stronger VPN (SSL connection) get Betternet. I used it for sometime.
PS: Both are free and speeds were stable for me
There's an AOSP port of the Pixel launcher if you want the most modern style. But I prefer something completely different: Smart Launcher.
Android assistant! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advancedprocessmanager
It's the tool when it comes to Android imo. You can manage here everything you need: from app to sd to CPU. I admit even I don't use all its features, but the one I do use the backup one like crazy: it turns the apps on your phone to apk, so you can install, un install and reinstall apps on the fly!
Never seen Moto Migrate? It does the same thing, just the other way around.
Edit: Link
Edit 2: Apparently it's been discontinued.
Those two and the AOSP keyboard are basically your only options, sadly. Everyone else seem to be recommending stuff that's no better. This one is admittedly quite unwieldy, but:
No internet permission
Totally free
Highly configurable, you can probably get it how you want it
There is a free version too, which you would have found had you spent just 5 seconds looking at the page.
File Expert is a professional file manager can fully access and manage files on various locations in sdcard, external sdcard, cloud services, SMB, FTP, WebDAV, HTTP, NAS, USB OTG and system internal flash if working on a rooted phone. Welcome to experiencing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xcxin.filexpert&hl=en
The closest I could get was by using Icon changer free.
You will have to change every icon manually and it will not affect the app drawer.
I wrote a flow for Automate that enables/disabled data and other things on the fly. Took my old LG OG from 12hrs to 32hrs battery life. This is at the expense of push notifications that require data like Facebook though.
Smart Launcher is my favorite. It's very different from the usual design, as it has only two screens: main and categories. The main screen has a "wheel" with room for a handful of apps, so you only put the most important stuff there - dialer, music, browser, email, and so on. The categories screen lists all the apps, automatically organized - communication, internet, games, multimedia, utilities, and configurations (the pro version lets you customize the categories themselves).
People commenting on this are completely wrong they don't really understand the android system.
No PC software will bring it back because it doesn't have root access to where the deleted files actually are.
To get your photos back you will need to root your device, just watch a YouTube tutorial and double check everything thing and you'll be fine.
Then download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete
It will take about 30 mins to 2 hours to complete but all your photos will be there.
I have done this countless times for my self and other people and have been able to receive there files every time.
Fell free to ask me any questions.
I used to have a Samsung S4 Active. Pretty to of the line model when it came out. Battery life on it sucked but it was my baby until it was stolen. Bought a temporary "budget" Samsung J2 while I wait for the Priv thinking I'll manage with an extra battery and a power bank but I'm surprised at the longevity of this tiny 2000 mAh battery. Ofcourse it's brand new but I'm still the same ole power user (I think installing the Twilight app might have helped though).
I use an app called Twilight https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.lux&hl=en, it reduces eye strain at night or anywhere really. I guess the screenshot captures that as well.
Riptide GP2 is cool. It's jetski racing, with tricks and boosts.
Or maybe wait for the upcoming Riptide GP Renegade. it's the same, but better.
For minimalist home check out Themer
Also check out Note Buddy for S-pen sound customization.
Really now? Welcome! Glad to have you aboard!
Lux is an auto-brightness application that, if you're rooted and a plugin exists for your device, can directly interface with your screen instead of doing the overlay like how your phone currently does it. It'll look exactly like how F.lux looks on Desktop PCs.
I've written plugins for Lux for the phones that I have, but I've never had a Moto E so I don't know if such a plugin exists for that.
I believe there are other ways to also get that non-overlay functionality (so you can have that sweet sweet beautiful screen), but I'm only familiar with how Lux does it. Pretty sure you have to be rooted for all of them, though.
I don't like most of the popular (paid/closed source) ones, but one I found to be free and full featured, multi system emulator (including GBA) is RetroArch.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.retroarch&hl=en
Here ya go. This one is my favorite. Compatible with hundreds of devices (meaning it will control them - I think the app is only for S4-S6). Also has a widget option. None of the shitty bloaty features of the stock Samsung remote app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moletag.galaxy.s4.remote
nexus 6 user here
pros
Large screen, after 3-4 days you'll love it. My former G3 feels unusable small now
Awesome battery life!
Modding.... MODDING seriously, it's a Google DEVELOPER phone, what else do you want?
No bloatware, everything runs smooth. Even after a couple of months... (looking at you, samsung)
Pretty nice design (my opinion)
OLED Screen (must have app)
cons
It's pretty large, which can be a con... If you have small hands, it can get pretty slippery
With Android 5.1 Google Services eats up all the battery (that's a problem on almost every 5.1 device IIRC)
Check the bit using this thing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bryancandi.knoxcheck
If it's 0x0 then I think I'll do the same on my Canadian S4 too. Either way it'd be out of warranty due to it expiring but still...
Everyone else is giving your manufacturer apps.. That shit is stupid.
Peel Smart Remote works with any phone with an ir blaster. It isn't the best, but it has a notification panel widget and it works with all of my stuff (TV, sound bar, cable box, etc.).
While personally I think it's faster to use a standard keyboard, Here's a link to google's handwriting input keyboard which is supposed to be very good.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.handwriting.ime&hl=en
I've been messing around with AutoMate. It is similar to Android Auto, but can run on your phone. All you need to do is join the Google+ community and become a tester.
Check out Pocketcasts if you're interested in podcasts.
Also, if you have a lot of music on your computer/itunes/etc. you should upload it to Play Music for free. They currently allow up to 55,000 songs.
Just use this Root Uninstaller to remove any and all bloatware. Just make sure you don't remove any core system apps like Google play framework etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
There you go. Make sure you have Xposed framework. After you have Closed framework, active the AcDisplay module and reboot. To make it your lock screen, you must enable "enable when no notifications" in the AcDisplay settings so it stays set as the lock screen even when you don't have new notifications. There are also some other neat settings to mess with. It has an active mode that turns the display on when you pick up your phone (I leave this turned off). It comes default set to show a black screen instead of your wallpaper (to save battery on amoled displays) but you can enable your wallpaper in the AcDisplay settings.
