I felt the same way so I went over to r/andtroidthemes and went to look at some of the KLWP/Zooper stuff.
I ended going super simple and downloaded this gif wallpaper maker, got rid of the dock and changed my icon look with Nova Launcher Prime.
So my home screen looks like this now. It's not a gif but the rain behind the window falls.

Just install it, it's safe, and when you open thew app press little Gif+ icon, find your gif and use settings like Scale or Speed or just move it around and use + and - signs to make it bigger/smaller.

After that just press the check mark and then Set as wallpaper.

I use this app, works great for me and no watermark. The reviews keep saying something about an update and shadiness, and tbh I'm not sure what they are talking about, the app works great for me

then you go to https://ezgif.com/video-to-gif and convert it into a gif (just paste the mp4 link, don't upload anything)

download and put that gif on your phone

I'm not sure how to make a gif of a homescreen, but this is the gif I used for the wallpaper via the GIF Live Wallpaper Setting app. The icon theme used is the 8-BIT Icon Theme. It's simple, but gives a very calming feel.

I've used this app for a while, it makes the GIF a live wallpaper but I'm not sure if there is a better way to do it or not.

Wallpaper, applied with the app called "GIF Live Wallpaper Setings" (At the "faster" speed, so the gif runs more smooth).

I use "Lines Free" as my main iconpack and for the dock I use "Light Void Free".

I use Nova Prime as launcher; In the Nova settings I played a bit with the look of the folder (N Preview background) and searchbar. The searchbar colorcode is #dadada. Colorcode for the folder and drawer is #cd364850. Labels are turned of in the mainscreen turned on in folders and the drawer (using the "Light" font, in white)
