Add any sound effect you want to the removing and replacing of the S-Pen.
I had the sound of a lightsaber opening upon taking the pen out, and the sound of the lightsaber closing when putting it back.
Edit - For those that can't get it to work, I'm sorry I don't know what to say... It was definitely working when I had my Note 8. The Google reviews have tips that I posted elsewhere in the comments that hopefully can help resolve any issues.
There's a better way. You can remap it to open this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.irk.ang.balsan.shortcutled
There's no interface. It just toggles the flashlight on or off. It's perfect
Why use the USB type C port when the Note 9 has a fully capable 3.5 audio jack? Personally, I use the Rode VideoMic Me when recording video using the stock camera app.
Here's a vote for IP Webcam Pro
It works as an IP camera, so you can use it with multiple devices on your network, and with any software that supports IP streaming. (VLC can take it and stream it out to everything on your network as whatever format you want) It has a great web interface for configuration.
It is perfect for my needs, just give it power and use it from anywhere.
Hate the Bixby button, but I used Button Mapper to remap it to turn the flashlight on and off.
The camera when taking still shots isn't the best compared with other phones I've seen, but it is one of the best. The 4K is really good, including the sound.
It's stupid overpowered and can even run a specialized Ubuntu environment using Dex (I only set it up to try it out, I don't actually use it).
If you really wanted to, you could use a laptop dock and use it like a portable laptop.
Wireless charging is nice, headphone jack is nice.
I do hate that Samsung took away the vertical recents menu. It's horizontal scrolling now like iPhones. I don't think it makes a lot of sense considering it's easier (for me anyway) to scroll up and down with my phone using one hand.
That's another thing, the phone is huge. I probably use two hands with it more often than I do one, especially if I'm over a surface that could break the phone if I dropped it.
You can get the linux-on-dex apk from apkmirror.
the best is swiftkey.

I agree there is no going back to using the navbar anymore. I recommend checking out the already mentioned OHO+ together with Gesture Control.

Nova launcher has for years been the most stable. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en_US

Here is how I got it on my Note9:
Download the app themeGalaxy: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=project.vivid.themesamgalaxy)
Download and extract the Product Sans ttf on your device from the following link: https://fontmeme.com/fonts/product-sans-font/
Open the themeGalaxy app and go through any tutorial stuff. After that swipe in from the right and on the side menu bar under 'Extra' you should see the option to 'Build Custom font from .ttf' Select that.
Enter a random font name (I just chose ProductSans) and then tick the box that says 'Pick .ttf file manually' and choose the Product Sans ttf file you downloaded and extracted in step 2.
Click the big green 'Build' button and install the apk the app creates thereafter.
You should now see the Product Sans font under Settings > Display > Font and screen zoom > Font style
If it's not there restart the device and it should now be present.
Process seems kinda long in writing but genuinely only takes 2 minutes if you know what your doing. Hope that helps
Fixed Doesn't let me register, I click it twice and then it send me to the home page again, I'm in unlocked US note 9
Edit: Had to redownload and install the newest Samsung + app.
I'm going to smart switch backup to my SD card and then update to PIE!! Had to wait 10 minutes for update to show, FYI!
How to use it in countries with no Good Lock:
Download the apk from APK Mirror.
After yoy download it and install it, you can't open it normally, you'll need to use a workaround to run it (I use Nova Launcher, so I added a "Nova Activity" widget, where I can select NavStar).
> he icon pack is called "Material Cards" but I'm not sure if it's still on the play store.
It is not, unfortunately. You can fink the apk easily enough by Googling. For anyone wondering, it looks like that last version that was released was v1.1.9, back around September 22, 2018.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunnysidesoft.VirtualTablet
This app should give you the thing you want. Also supports pressure levels, and has wireless and cable mode. Cable should have much less latency. You also need the same apps windows version as a client on computer, check apps description for that. Have fun :)
Swiftkey is my power. others will say gboard. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&hl=en_US

I prefer Bixby over Google Assistant for anything but thing's you use Google Search for and Youtube. Bixby is better at anything else.
You can disable the button and change it to something else like a flashlight with Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions
Super useful! I have mine on Google Assistant since I can still use Bixby if I say 'Hi Bixby' or holding the button. I only really use the button if I need to search something with Google Assistant.
I use Button Mapper. I had to run some adb commands to get it to disable Bixby and start taking control of the Bixby button, but that's what I use. It works with the screen off too. I've got it mapped to toggle the sound mode with a long press and screenshot with a single press.
edit: don't know if anyone will see this, but here's a link to the xda-developers forum page that I used when I got stuck typing the adb commands. I just copy/pasted the commands from this page.
You can increase screen sensitivity under advanced features at the bottom. Also install this
And change the edge touch rejection to your liking.
I didn't even know ShareX (which I have been using forever), has this feature but here we are. ShareX has scrolling capture, gif recording and others.
Example of Google Image Search
You are welcome!
One thing you might not have expected is that your phone comes with a desktop UI for free. If you plug it into any usb C display or have any hdmi adapter it will allow you to use your apps on a big screen just like a Chromebook. I've switched to my note 8 as my only computer about a year ago and I stopped using my macbook entirely instead using a large display on my desk at home and chromecasting when I don't have a cable.
My favorite aspect of the Note like is the ability to get the 512gb model for recording and editing all the videos I make for my youtube channel. I'm kind of a tech extremist but I highly reccomend you check out Samsung DeX if nothing else. https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/samsung-dex/
There is, download bxActions
Follow the instructions and plug into a PC
That button has been my flash light for years now :)
The first picture is from the full bug report in the developer options in the settings. You need to run the report and then share it when the notification pops up, I shared it with myself in Google drive. More on how to do that can be found here. https://www.reddit.com/r/batterybrag/comments/ehmta6/pixel_2_still_has_91_remaining_battery_capacity/
The second picture is from the Samsung info app which let's you see the number of battery cycles among other things.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
The third picture is from AccuBattery which is interesting to see the difference between the estimate in the report the android system generated and the AccuBattery estimate.
It used to be possible using an app called GxFonts, but the upgrade to Android 10 broke however it was doing it.
There has been an update to Hex Installer that enables custom fonts again, but I haven't used it yet so I can't vouch for how well it works. Hex Installer essentially compiles a custom theme for you to use that can customise a whole range of different things, font included.
For my Note 9 (Snapdragon variant, latest Android update), Cube Call Recorder ACR (from developer Catalina Group) works like a charm, but only for regular calls (no VoIP calls like WhatsApp, Messenger or whatsoever).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.catalinagroup.callrecorder
Swift Installer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftinstaller. Gives you dark mode on a lot of apps, and allows you to change things like the accent color (color of toggles, color of loading circle, etc).
Edit: You don't need root for this
I certainly do! And it's WELL worth it. Bixby sucks, and the extra button which is wasted on Bixby is SO useful!!
I remapped mine to do the following while the phone is unlocked.... Nothing on single press (to avoid accidental pushes) Launch Google Assistant on double press Open settings on press once then long hold (I use settings a lot so that saves me time) Launch Samsung Health on long hold
Seperately I have it set to launch/close the torch on press once then long hold while the phone is locked
Don't hesitate, it's a brilliant app!
Either search Google Play Store for "Bixby button remapper - bxActions" or click here and install it
Launch it
CAREFULLY follow the instructions (especially the bit where you link it to a computer & use adb commands to fully open up all options!!)
Remap your Bixby button You can also Remap the volume buttons if you like, with single press still doing volume, but double press doing things like skipping tracks or playing/pausing music...
Dark mode on
Background color is #252525 (same color as dark mode lighter accents)
Accent color is one of their default red options
Quicksettings at about a 85% transparency
Free - Xodo: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xodo.pdf.reader
Paid - Squid: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.projectpapyrus
Both are full-featured PDF annotator software with automatic Cloud backup. You'll need to convert your Powerpoints to PDF (I do this on my computer with a free app called CutePDF, not sure of an phone app that can do this), then transfer the PDFs to your phone using the Cloud or connecting with a cord.
Xodo is great and should satisfy most users. One of my favorite features is Xodo Connect, which allows you to annotate with others in real time. Great for study groups.
Squid is a paid app (subscription pay OR unlock features for a one-time fee) but I like its interface and the pen features over Xodo. Otherwise it's an expensive alternative: $5 to unlock Import PDF, $3 to unlock more writing tools, $3 to unlock Cloud Backup.
Swiftkey, give it a test drive and at least see all options in it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&hl=en_US
If tired of tiny KB, this is for you. SWIFTKEY can handwrite via spen too.
What? This is common knowledge and I'm getting I'm getting downvoted? Do a single google search to see I'm right...

I use the stock camera, but I installed this Camera Mod to remove limits and improve bitrate.
Yes that will be possible as Samsung will be selling the S Pens independent of the phones in a multitude of colours. Seems like the price is a bit extortionate though with an RRP of £35 per pen, they are already available from Amazon here in the UK.
I have Caseology Skyfall Series Case for Galaxy Note 9 from Amazon. It fits almost perfectly (slight gap at the top and bottom, perfect on the sides) around the Whitestone protector.
The best way to continue using the "ad-free" version of the Samsung Music app is to do the following:
1) Install the "apk-signer" app from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haibison.apksigner
2) Download the most current version of Samsung Music that pre-dates the ads. It appears to be version 16.2.21.6. I found it on apkmirror.com. You will need to browse this site and download the 16.2.21.6 apk file to your device.
3) Install the 16.2.21.6 version of Samsung Music on your device.
4) Run the apk-signer app on your device. I selected the option to "sign a live app", so, go ahead and select that.
5) Scroll through the list looking for Samsung Music. There is a search button you can optionally use. Click it to select Samsung Music once you find it.
6) On my device I am prompted to select a name for the new, signed apk file and the location. I just appended "new" in front of the filename, and, then click save.
7) I then manually un-installed the current version of Samsung Music.
8) I then used the Samsung My Files app to browse to and install the new and improved version of Samsung Music that was signed by apk-signer.
This trick works because the apk is signed by your account and not by the Play Store. The Play Store & Samsung Galaxy Store will not prompt you to update this app, however, the Samsung Music app on my device does display an update button that you would never want to actually click on.
I use this same trick to keep my Joey Reddit app on a super old version that does not have any ads in it and has worked great for me.
I personally do not believe that there should be any ads in any first-party apps on any device that cost as much as a Note9 did when it was new. This is un-acceptable, Samsung!
I use the app Glimpse Notifications for this. Has been working pretty well for me and there's a lot of deep customisation of behaviour you can do.
AMOLED Live Wallpaper & Lines Free Icon Pack
using a dark theme and GoodLock quickstar, task changer & NavStar
Just change; that life360 is an unnecessary battery hog. Think of it this way; what good is that app of your phone battery (and everyone else's in your family) is dead because of it.
I would recommend Trusted Contacts (Google) instead of life360 and sharing in Google maps, because it also enables someone in your trusted contacts group to request your location, which you can approve. And a nice setting where, if you don't approve within the time period you declare when setting up the app, it automatically shares the location of the person.
Swiftkey hands up the most customization and options. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&hl=en_US
millions use it.
I just found out about this icon pack which cost around a dollar. It has many icons for alot popular apps and the greatest thing is that you can send request the developer to make icons for apps that don't have. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.edzondm.linebit (it is not my product i just want to share)
Sounds like a cool feature. That is not something that is built in on Samsung devices, but I wonder if an app like this would work for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ellevsoft.findbluetoothdevices

The app is called "Screener - Better Screenshots, " and is available on Google Play. I found out about it on here, from other redditors using it. Other than not having a dedicated overlay for the Note 9 yet, it's pretty sweet.
Yep, it's exactly the same as the S9.
Same procedure as the S9, you have to download the app My BP Lab: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sagebionetworks.research.bp&hl=en_US
Create an account to join the study, then you need to first input your Blood Pressure that you received from a real Blood Pressure source.
Haven't seen people talk about this feature much, probably because it's a bit troublesome to use, so only those who really need to know their Blood Pressure would use it. But for them, they would probably prefer to use a real device rather than a sensor that gives approximate values.
I tried it once on my Note9, but since it was on a separate app from Samsung Health, I completely forgot about it afterwards.
I also had a few Note9 and S9 friends download it, but the majority of them quickly deleted it because they didn't want to join the study. So there's always that reasoning.
Btw, if you like reliable launchers, try nova prime. you can use 1000s of icon packs, and is the most customizable to your needs. it supports gestures too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime&hl=en_US
The primary launcher is ok in stock note 9, meh, but icons stay small.
That's not possible through stock means.
Although we're usually able to hide the Navigation Bar during most situations, the Navigation Bar will still show itself under come cases like when the Keyboard appears or when Split Screen is on.
I have no idea why they designed this this way, but there's no setting to change this.
However, there's a way to do this through non-stock means.
What you need is a 3rd party app that can hide the Navigation Bar, for example: XDA's Navigation Gestures https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
This does require you to use ADB to grant the app permission to write secure settings, which basically grants the app the ability to tell the system to not show the Navigation Bar.
With Navigation Gestures controlling the visibility of the Navigation Bar, the Navigation Bar won't reveal itself during Split Screen.
Just one warning. If you ever decide to uninstall Navigation Gestures or other similar apps, make sure you toggle back the visibility of the Navigation Bar because it won't reverse the process automatically.
Look for the application "wazzap migrator". Its expensive but it worked for my girlfriend when she went from an old iPhone 5s to the Galaxy S7 2 years ago !
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbeghin.whatsappmigrator
Edit : Link to the app
I can't recommend this enough. Specifically this is what I got but any of there power banks are boss, I got this one though because it charges using a USB c port instead of Micro USB.
But you cannot use both night mode and themes together, which means night mode only works on default theme.
New apk download link from apkmirror
Manually update is how I got it. I guess it's a rollout. If you use bxActions to remap, it won't activate anything on single press if you change the setting to double click. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/bixby/bixby-2-0-36-14-release/
Yes if you want 1080p, I don't know why, but that is the latest version that plays in 1080p... It's shame though, I don't know why it's not supported on any of later updates till today. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/netflix/netflix-5-3-1-build-19296-release/netflix-5-3-1-build-19296-android-apk-download/

I have tried many, many tempered glass protectors and I HATE the dust that sneaks in around the edges. Lost track of how many I bought until I tried amFilm tempered glass. Have used them on Note 8, Note 9 and bought them for family and friends' phones. NONE of them have ever failed. Inexpensive and they perform like no other.

I disable Bixby and reprogrammed the button to open Google Assistant and other apps and functions with an app called bxAction.
It has 3 option to for commands: Press 1 time, press 2 times and press 1 time and hold. I have all 3 set. It's a really nice feature to have. Bixby never opens or activates.
You need to pay for the pro version but worth it. There are some steps involved to get it working. Don't need to root your phone. It's very easy to setup.
Except Amazon, they have been having stock and shipping. You can even order today for tomorrow delivery.

Price is cheap, has a charging port and a single USB port too. Also, comments has a Note9 user that declares it works with DEX.
I've seen a few others on Amazon that offers much more ports too, but more pricey of course.

When the iPhone 8 and X were released this was widely accepted as the best wireless charger available. It may still be favored, unless thr newer Samsung charger overtook it. I prefer this style that will lay flat or be propped up an angle.
The fast wireless charging is slower than fast cable charging, but faster than "regular" cable charging in my experience.
I use it daily at my desk. I keep my phone there while I work and watch Netflix. It doesn't get hot or make the phone hot. It can still charge while watching 1080p content at full brightness (meaning the battery level goes up, but on a regular cable charge it goes down under the same load). It uses USB-C cable, so when I am in desperate need to charge I plug in wired. I know many fast wireless chargers on Amazon are still using the archaic MicroUSB, so you need a separate cable to wire charge.
You don't need a whitestone, you can get similar products at fraction of the price.
And if you know someone with a whitestone, you can borrow their jig and lamp.
I use Feedly on Android and in the browser.
I used to use Google Reader and when Google shut that down, Feedly copied their keyboard shortcuts (and I believe also their API, as I use a podcast app that used to synchronise with Google Reader and then moved to Feedly), making it very convenient to switch to it.
It's certainly not the most beautiful news reader in the world, but it's fast and efficient for me. I haven't seen it throw ads at me since I started using it in 2013, although it has started asking me if certain articles are about certain subjects in the last few months (optional answers, not obtrusive, looks like it's training some kind of AI for categorising the news).
Thanks! I'm using Nova Launcher, LineX icon pack, and the Cheesecake KWGT app.

I set up systemUI tuner to add a battery details button to the quick settings pane, which goes directly to battery details when you tap it.

I know you've said you haven't rooted it, but it's worth checking to make sure it wasn't pre-rooted in some way and that Knox hasn't been tripped. Some apps won't work in these situations.

I've had the same issue. In my case, I used a bloatware removal app that deleted the photo editing service usually tied to the gallery app.
A simple solution is to use ADB to uninstall it, and then reinstall it from the Play Store.
Using ADB (heres a guide) run the following command:
adb shell -k --user 0 pm uninstall com.sec.android.gallery3d
why not use fluid navigation gestures instead? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid&hl=en_CA

there is an option to disable the nav bar using pc connection and terminal.
For YouTube ad blocking: YouTube Vanced + MicroG. (I'd personally go with the one listed as White/Black).
For Nintendo DS Emulation: DraStic DS Emulator.
I believe the confirmation is a feature that some carriers have. So I would consider it normal. Not sure if the Samsung messages app can disable that feature. Personally, I'm using Google Messages and have never seen that message. If you want to give it a go, you can find it here on the PlayStore :)

You can get the APK of theversion of the app that you want from apk mirror.
Then sign it with ZipSigner with private keys. This will make it appear as a different app then the one on the playstore.
Uninstall the version from the playstore and install the apk signed with private keys and it won't update anymore.
Depends on country, version, or you have other devices in google account that conflicts.

You can check prices of previous Notes Note 8 didn't drop much when note 9 came out neither did note 7 drop massively in price when note 8 came out.
Any major price drops we experienced already happened. Prices will continue to go down but much slower. You can get note 9 now reasonably priced IMO as a recent Note buyer I say it was absolutely worth a price.
You can see a graph here Note 8 has dropped in first year by 35% and then stayed fairly stable with price. My guess here will be similar.
I am using AdGuard, but it is not free.
I would say it blocks about 95% of the ads through out the whole device. In a couple of aps, I do get to see a blank popup occasionally

that link is to adguard, the only proven ad remover and prevention, if in fact you encounter ads.
generally, some apps in playstore states ads but only for premium features promos.
doesn't mean every app whatsoever.

It's a shame that the option to change its style was removed from Sound Assistant. We should raise the concern on the Samsung Members app.
In the meantime, the Play Store has some options like this one (I haven't used it myself though) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombayley.volumepanel
I wanted to update this and give the method that ended up working for me, but probably shouldn't have. I had to physically chip away at the top half of the pen until there was enough room to get this in as a wedge and get it out.
The bottom half was lodged in deep as hell, but the center was hollow. I ended up heating up one of these titanium paperclips (https://www.amazon.com/Titanium-Paper-Clip-Carving-Tool/dp/B0755TZTLZ) up on a candle and skewering it to pull it out.
I'm making it sound easy. It wasn't. I also am pretty sure I was able to "loosen it up" by hanging it upside down for hours and smacking it around like it owed me money. I got it done, but damn, it was a bitch.
I just recently had to replace mine as well and in doing some research there are a lot of non Bluetooth enabled stylus' out there that have the branding and shape down but only some replacements will have the full feature set aka air gestures and button actions. Usually the comment section will immediately say whether its the right one with all the features or if its just a stylus.
I got this one and it was the genuine replacement. All I had to do was open the spen settings and insert the pen into the phone and it immediately recognized it.
I've used this one for the last year with no problems in the US.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htetznaing.zfont2 This is the app capable of applying third party fonts by taking advantage of a loophole in Samsung's backup method (remember that samsung keeps the last font you used before upgrading to new oneui versions). Just follow the instructions in the app. I am now able to use my favorite Product Sans on Note9 OneUI 2.5 without problems :)
Probably need a new battery rather than a new ROM.
Install this and let it run for a few days before you look at the results.
I run a Note 20 Ultra with an AmFilm screen protector. I picked up a 2 pack for $40 and I don't have the problem that others do - the screen protector popping off at the edges. I assume that's because it uses glue for the install. I've had my screen for about 4 months with no problem. I'd recommend something like this.
