I don't have a Samsung so I don't know if this still works, but my mother was using an app to rebind the bixby button to other actions, you should try it out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
IDK if ya'll have Samsung BUT
Bixby routines
New routine
IF App open (Pornhub)
THEN Media volume 0%
https://i.imgur.com/DILOJ3O.jpg
Opening Pornhub app will now set your volume to 0%.
EDIT, due to a few reoccurring questions/comments:
Pornhub app is on android. You have to download it from the pornhub site, Google Play doesn't allow adult material apps. I don't know of any Pornhub app for iOS.
If you want more functionality from Bixby, check out this app. Been using it for months with no problems. Default version lets you remap the button for single-press and removes the alternate from launching bixby. Pro version gives you single-press, hold, double-press, and double press & hold. Pro is $3, and it's the best $3 you'll ever spend on Google Play. I'm not shilling here, this is a great tool for remapping the bixby button and totally disabling bixby's grips from it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
The app will have a delay unless you unlock permissions on your computer so I would highly recommend you doing it.
bxActions lets you remap the volume and bixby buttons to anything you want, and if you no run the adb commands (No root required) then the buttons will respond instantly: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I like the Bixby button, not for Bixby, but for remapping. Currently mine is configured as:
Single press: Google Voice control assistant
Hold single press: Google now news page with search bar along top
Double press: torch
Hold double press: Reddit
So personally I like it.
EDIT: since someone asked I used this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions and paid for the pro version for a few more features and then made a few alterations on my pc
You can use bxaction to remap your bixby button to "Screen on/off". You can also map a long press of the bixby button to pop up the power options menu as well if you so desire.
Works with non-root but you'll need to run a few adb commands from a computer. The app will provide a tutorial if it detects the phone as unrooted.
Yeah there's quite a few apps for it now & its not even out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures
I installed this to all the demo units at bestbuy haha should've remapped them to pornhub or this sub
Apps running wild in the background hasn't been much of an issue for me in the past 2 years.
Look into SABS https://www.xda-developers.com/sabs-ad-blocker-samsung-galaxy-phones/
Adblocker for Samsung Phones. No impact on battery life.
bxActions - remap Bixby button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
If you're into theming, you can use Samsung's theme store. If you're really really into theming, you can install substratum and andromeda which will let you theme a lot of popular apps plus your system UI. This one poses the most risk since you can break your phone.
Project Treble on all 8.0+ phones, allows you to install some ROMs and still have a functional phone without too much worry. Assuming the rom supports Project Treble features.
I'd say overall Android is extremely light these days. Kinda cool watching it grow over the last few years.
Better yet install bxActions are remap it to whatever you want.
You can remap single tap, double tap, long hold etc
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
BxActions. You'll need to plug your phone into a computer and run a program to get full remapping capability. It's a lot easier than it sounds and the app walks you through it.
> 3. Bixby is useless, so I've disabled it. Still trying to figure out what to do with the button.
Not who you asked, but I have been using bxActions and it has worked pretty well for me. There are a few other ones, too, but I haven't checked those out yet.
Extra physical buttons are so rare on new phones and usefull. Why get rid of such a useful button when you can just change it to do something useful with bxActions? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
There's also apps to overwrite the bixby button and let you do whatever you want with it.
I have mine programmed to open my calendar when I push it, take a screenshot when holding, and turn phone on Do not Disturb by double tapping.
Look up bxactions on Google Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
no need to root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US (BxActions) does it without root (helps to run some adb commands tho, but no rooting)
I use this one on my s8: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
As a heads up, whenever Samsung pushes an update for the bixby button you'll want to ignore it for a bit until the app is updated to support it again.
Bixby Button Remapper so you can use the Bixby button for anything.
I currently have a single press mapped to Google Assistant, a double press mapped to open the camera, and a long press mapped to turn on the flashlight.
I'd suggest looking into SABS
https://www.xda-developers.com/sabs-ad-blocker-samsung-galaxy-phones/
Adblocker for Samsung Phones. No impact on battery life. You just need to get your own free license from Samsung. It'll block most ads via DNS. Youtube ads will still show however.
Secondary, bxActions - remap Bixby button. Can be a pseudo replacement for your volume switch from the iPhone. Customizable and really cool.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Probably a big task for just getting into Android but the more you tinker with Android the cooler it becomes.
Automation apps can be cool such as MacroDroid or Tasker. Play around with it.
Been using bxactions since I got the phone and it has been working fine without root.
I have my Bixby button cycle through sound, vibration, and silent. Holding down the Bixby button activates Google voice search. Also when I double click and hold, it turns on the flashlight.
I ended up disabling Bixby when I got my new phone and using this app (BxActions -- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions) til remind the key to something else. I use it for toggling the flashlight instead, which I use a lot.
That's not been my experience. I'm using an un-rooted, stock, fully updated Note 8 right now with bxActions and I've had my button remapped to Google Assistant without trouble. None of the updates have disabled it, broken it, or changed it on my phone. Hell, I haven't actually had to think about it since I installed it last year.
...that said, I hate the button and fully agree with you on how stupid it is (and don't get me started on how awful I think bixby is)...
bxActions is what you want. Do the 'full' activation using ADB for it to work when I tried it: After I did that, I paid for pro basically instantly. Totally worth it.
Now I can double tap while the screen is off to turn on the torch, or double tap and hold for torch on full power. And previously, Bixby was set to go home: but it always had a blue box on the top that I needed to dismiss before doing anything. Now it works instantly.
If you don't use Bixby, you can remap the button to whatever action you prefer using BxActions. I've mapped single press to Google Assistant, Double to Camera, Long Press to Vibrate, Double Press on lock to Torch. Best use of the button.
You can download bxActions on the Play Store to be able to fully remap it. You can remap to single, double, long, double press and long actions and are very customizable. To take full advantage of the button you'll have to do the following:
Step 1 is enough to remap the button but the actions might not take place immediately and you'll have limited functionality.
I prefer Bixby over Google Assistant for anything but thing's you use Google Search for and Youtube. Bixby is better at anything else.
You can disable the button and change it to something else like a flashlight with Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions
Super useful! I have mine on Google Assistant since I can still use Bixby if I say 'Hi Bixby' or holding the button. I only really use the button if I need to search something with Google Assistant.
Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions
Pay the few bucks for the Pro version. You can now use this button for a number of things, back button, to pull up the power menu (like long holding the power button), etc. you can alos configure the Bixbi button for Single press, double press, long press, and double press & hold. So you can set up 4 different action on that one button.
There is, download bxActions
Follow the instructions and plug into a PC
That button has been my flash light for years now :)
Yup, totally did this. I'm probably the only one who is okay with Bixby, because I just disabled everything with this app, then used this app and remapped it to Google Assistant (single press), screenshot (double press), and flashlight (press and hold). It's actually one of the most used buttons on my phone now. Took maybe all of 5 minutes total including app installation.
Android allows you that flexibility to customize and change things. You just gotta look for it. :)
bxActions. If you give it extra permissions using ADB (not rooting) you can make it activate instantly instead of intercepting the Bixby activation.
I certainly do! And it's WELL worth it. Bixby sucks, and the extra button which is wasted on Bixby is SO useful!!
I remapped mine to do the following while the phone is unlocked.... Nothing on single press (to avoid accidental pushes) Launch Google Assistant on double press Open settings on press once then long hold (I use settings a lot so that saves me time) Launch Samsung Health on long hold
Seperately I have it set to launch/close the torch on press once then long hold while the phone is locked
Don't hesitate, it's a brilliant app!
Either search Google Play Store for "Bixby button remapper - bxActions" or click here and install it
Launch it
CAREFULLY follow the instructions (especially the bit where you link it to a computer & use adb commands to fully open up all options!!)
Remap your Bixby button You can also Remap the volume buttons if you like, with single press still doing volume, but double press doing things like skipping tracks or playing/pausing music...
Unless you really like Bixby. bxActions lets you change what the Bixby button does. I keep mine set to press once for Google Assistant, but I can hold the button down for Bixby. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Hell yes. I'm relying on BxActions to remap my S9+'s Bixby button to be a camera. So annoying.
There is a feature to have a double press on the power button launch the camera, but that's also has an emergency feature with a triple press today texts friends/family you location, picture and that you're in an emergency. One day, my phone lagged out and it resulted in two presses being 5 or so. Yay, had to text them all back. "Srsly, false alarm guys!"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
bxActions. /u/Dream traveler, here you go. You can remap the Bixby button to do many things. Note: some actions just be unlocked by plugging it into a PC, but it's an easy process.
That said, are you aware you can open the camera by double-pressing the power button?
You kind of need Samsung Experience (TouchWiz) to make the S Pen work at all. And it's pretty silky smooth; it's not the TouchWiz everyone loved to shit on.
And the Bixby button can be disabled natively. Or remapped to anything you want using third party software.
Just some thoughts if you actually did want to consider the Note 9.
Using an app like bxActions(play store link). Just choose one of the modes and follow the instructions. Pretty handy as now you have a hardware button you can do anything with.
There are plenty of apps that allow you to remap it. I personally use BxActions and I just mapped it to the google app to replicate google now but you can map to pretty much anything
bxActions and using Google Voice... i find it more accurate and better for my needs... Doing everything i can to nix the bix
Cmon bud, use bxActions. My Bixby button turns on/off my flashlight with a hold, ringer/vibrate with a double tap, and pause/plays my music with a single tap.
The Bixby button is now amazing.
Use this app, and then plug it into your computer and run the program. You don't need to be rooted or anything, it works with the stock phone. I know it seems sketchy but ITS SO WORTH IT!!! having the customizable button is a huge game changer once you get it setup.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
> Will the Bixby button become able to remap later?
No not through the settings, there are apps that allow you to re-map the button to other functions though. This one seems popular around here.
> How is the mic quality?
Seems fine to me and the people I've called haven't had any complaints. >Is the network connection better?
I can't really answer that, I'm on WiFi nearly all the time. When I'm not it seems perfectly fine.
It is a button remapper app. It let's you easily reassign the purpose of the bixby button. It also let's you remap the volume buttons. For instance, mine is setup to toggle my flashlight if I double tap the volume down button with the screen off.
If you are on an S8 check out bxActions (Pro) to remap the Bixby and the volume buttons. It comes with a lot of options but you can also trigger tasks that way.
Otherwise check out this post here: HOW TO Use Tasker To Do ANYTHING With The VOLUME Keys, on Press, Up, Down. etc.
Use this. If you enable control mode + disable bixby, you'll just have a button to switch volume controls and what not.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
Favorite part of my S10 honestly.
Vibrate switch a la iPhone with 2 minutes of work. Also functions as a flashlight toggle when locked.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=et&gl=US
I think he meant BxActions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=et&gl=US
This app has the ability.
Hopefully there will be an App similar to what was or is used in Samsung smartphones wrt Bixby:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB
I use bxActions. If I remember correctly, you can set the click and hold functionality directly, but if you want to set the double click and double click and hold, you need to connect to a computer and run some program to enable it.
Specifically for double click of power key? tasker: https://www.xda-developers.com/tasker-remap-double-tap-power-button/
If you want to remap your volume buttons and/or bixby button similarly, bxactions. (you can assign single tap, double tap, long press, double-tap-and-hold for each to have separate functions).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I've been using this since yesterday and so far so good. Definitely use a PC to get the full potential of this app (you'll see what I mean when you open the app). Also I ignored all the comments about the .exe being a trojan in the Play Store reviews
Yes that's why I root my phone with root you can use magisk modules to remove all the Samsung crap using debloated custom Roms and stock android custom ROMs. There are magisk modules and rooted apps that let you remap bixby properly without it coming back.https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/root-remap-bixby-button-simple-double-t3839544/amp/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Will allow you to remap it but it's not 100% reliable.
Bixby and being unable to root ruined samsung for me. Never again.
Bixby annoyed me too until I remapped it to ring/vibrate/silent toggle. If you do the extra step of running the ADB command, it's instant every time and doesn't trigger Bixby at all, it just works like any other button as if it's a native function. I definitely recommend it, it will completely fix your only con.
edit: sorry, I should have specified - I'm referring to using BxActions
Samsung users: You can turn off your bixby button or even use it as a shortcut to something you need.
Install this app to stop bixby: bxactions
Here is a link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You can even open this link on your computer, and if you're logged into google, it'll give you the option to download to your phone.
It will ask for a lot of permissions, but that's just because bixby is integrated into a lot of how your phone works, so the app needs permission to stop it!
There's a 3rd party app that does that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I use it as a Play/Pause button. There's some delay between button press and the action but it really does work!
You can either disable Bixby completely or remap the button to something else.
There's an app called bxActions that will let you remap the bixby button to do all sorts of things. You can even map it so that a single press, double press, and long press do different actions. I have mine set to turn on my flashlight but there's plenty of options. I find it to be pretty handy because I have no interest in bixby anyways.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I deleted bixby because it started talking about rewards points.
Also, you can do whatever you want with the button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
No root required.
Accessibility apps do slow down the phone, some more than others. However, what you want to remap Bixby is Bixby Button Remapper With a little work after connecting to your PC to grant some permissions, you can run it in Command Mode. Lightning fast, and doesn't use accessibility service (I think you need the pro version to use Command Mode. Worth the couple of dollars).
There is this which allows you to remap the button without root. It works pretty well in my experience.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
Not sure if this is what you are talking about?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
If you follow the steps to enable control mode and disable bixby home, you basically just have an extra button for customization.
Mine does the iPhone, vibrate and sound toggle. Long press for Do Not Disturb, and double tap w/ screen on for a screenshot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions definitely worth the $1.99 for all features. With adhell or other package disabler you can disable just Bixby home and the button has 3 functions you can program, short / long press and hold (which can still work with Bixby voice. You can also program the same set of 3 button presses as different actions when the phone is locked. The Bixby app does not flash up at all for me. Only using the hold to talk to Bixby to max out the Samsung pay reward points you can earn (up to 5000).
Yes, accept the TOS. Then install bxActions. Once installed, you can disable the button, or better yet, remap it to something more useful. I've been using bxActions for years, and honestly love having an extra useful button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Install it and connect your phone to windows and run the archive .exe located on bx action folder in your smartphone. You can buy it or downloaded some cracked, it's up to you, just Google it.
Disable bixby completely and repurpose the key to do something useful with this. Does NOT require root, but does work best if you connnect to a PC and run a script using adb to set a few settings that you otherwise couldn't access.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Hoops indeed. You need an app for remapping the button, and run a script on your computer to unlock all features (included in the app).
There might be an option to remap the button directly from Bixby settings now (supposedly after some updates), and you can add custom actions to that with this app. However I use the remapped button from the very start, so I don't care about Bixby updates anymore - unless they break things.
It's not supported natively, you need a third party app.
I used BxActions which works great. But apparently it doesn't work on Android 10 so keep that in mind.
Not OP but I have a Samsung phone so I use a combination of bxActions (used to re-map my Bixby key) and Tasker so that when I double press and hold it will send an HTTP POST request to Home Assistant, opening the garage door.
Although I've found presence detection to be relatively reliable, it's not something I would trust to open any doors - I wouldn't want my door to open if I drove by my house on the way to somewhere else for example.
I am using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en to remap the Bixby button. It has the option to set it to turn the screen on/off.
I haven't seen any battery differences since I installed it. Haven't uninstalled it, so not sure if anything would be required other than an uninstall.
To be clear, I have Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions. Not sure if that is what you meant by bxremapper
Awesome!
Good question; that could come in handy. I'm pretty sure Android does not allow that, but I'm not positive...
Also, I found an alternative way to toggle Immersive Mode using bxActions or Button Mapper (I would recommend the latter for you.) Using these apps, you can assign one of your buttons to toggle fullscreen whenever you need it, on any app. The pro is you can toggle with any app on the fly, the con is you have to remember to enable/disable it--kind of a pain. You can also do a ton of other stuff when the hardware buttons are re-mapped; I highly recommend it.
You could just use bx actions, and remap the button to whatever you want. It's free in the playstore. (I assume that's what you're trying to do?)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Bxactions with the ADB commands has completely disabled the bixby function from the bixby button. Even if i long press the bixby button nothing happens other than what ive mapped it to. Theres no quick swtich from bixby to the newly mapped action. I'm not sure what this latest update to bixby did but its working like it did when it first was released.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
You can change the bixby button to do different things like the flashlight, ringer on/off, pause/play music by downloading the app - bxactions. There's an IAP to do something in it, I can't remember what, but I dont think its necessary. Edit- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Yeah it's very useful, I also used it for switch to last app and hold for flashlight. I use bxActions with the Pro upgrade (I don't remember if I actually need the Pro options but I don't regret buying it because it's a great app). It's scary though that Samsung could theoretically disable the mapping.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Gives you a ton of options. I have mine media play/pause on one press, skip on double press, and Google assistant on long press.
I have no idea. This is the app you are using correct.
I know you'll be prompted to open the app up on a computer and run a program have you tried that already?
I haven't had a samsung phone in a few months, but if I remember correctly, that was the app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Nice detective work lmao
It's weird how I'm using my Bixby button to turn on my flashlight right now even though it can't be remapped right?
You can disable it or remap the button with bxActions. I have it set to turn on the flashlight whenever I press the Bixby button.
I use BxActions. It's third party, but works perfectly for me. Map actions to press, double-press, press-and-hold, or double-press-and-hold.
It might not be exactly what you want but if you don't use bixby, you can set the bixby button to be a mute switch kind of like iPhones with bxActions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
To fully take advantage of it you need to do some computer stuff but it's totally worth it and makes the button actually useful
I've used bxactions to remap the bixby button to flashlight personally, not sure if your model has one of those buttons though.
I love my bxiby button, I'm going to miss it.
Obviously not for Bixby, but you can remap it to whatever and it's sooo useful. It's my shutter button for the camera, play/pause for Spotify, can quickly open the flashlight or camera anywhere in a second... It's just great.
I downloaded the <strong>bxActions App</strong> for my S8+.
It allows you to remap the Bixby button's function as well as suppress the Bixby app from running in the background.
I currently have my Bixby Button programmed to open Google Assistant with a single press and turn on/off my flashlight with a long press.
I very rarely buy apps but this one has proven to be totally worth it.
Granted it’s been a while (I had a s21 ultra but switched to iPhone last year) but I used to use this to remap it. Worked pretty well!
This isn't a built in option on the S9, you want bxActions. The free version will do what you want, the paid option will let you map any button.
To my fellow Samsung users that don't ever use Bixby:
You can use the Bixby button for that, and much more.
There's an app called bxActions that allows you to rebind the Bixby button to do a wide array of functions. The app itself is free, but the free version is limited and causes Bixby to pop up for a second before doing whatever you want it to do. The full version costs less than 5 bucks and is 100% worth it. It hooks into the backend of Android and actually disables Bixby entirely, can rebind other buttons like your power and volume buttons, and can have up to 4 actions for each (single press, long press, double press, and long double press). I have my Bixby button set up to play/pause music, turn on my flashlight, turn on a brighter flashlight that is normally only accessible through dedicated flashlight apps, or open Spotify. My volume buttons can be double-tapped to skip/replay songs, and I can double-tap and hold my power button to hard-reboot my phone instantly.
For someone like me who hates the Android voice actions, and never uses the Bixby button, it's a dream come true.
- A BLE device like a fitness-band may be able to be paired simultaneously with a normal Bluetooth device, and probably has a way to skip Songs.
- Remapping the bixby button may fit your usecase and preferences
- You could probably use some old wired headset/diy as a wired skip-remote; If that works with Samsung's Multi sound/Separate app sound.
I've never tried Routines+, but I use bxActions to remap the bixbi button to launch tasker tasks on my s10e. It also supports volume button remapping, though I haven't tried that.
It sometimes stops working until a reboot, but generally works very well.
There are many utilities for Android that let you disable or redefine what the Bixby button does. Bxactions is just one of a few. Better than having to damage the side button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This is super old. You can turn your Bixby button in everything you want for years. Mine is single press = quick settings shade, double press = BT connection menu, long press = Google Assistant, double press and hold = my GF's Whatsapp conversation.
On top of that, double press and hold toggles my flashlight on / off if my screen is off or I am on the lock screen.
Instead of getting the app in this blog post just get bxActions instead to do all of the above:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Ever since Samsung hoisted Bixby on everybody, there is a bit of a cottage industry happening of Bixby killer and Bixby button remapping apps in the Play Store.
I tried couple, bxActions is the most consistent and often updated (it has to update often since Samsung keeps changing Bixby API)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Get bxactions, I've never used bixby but I dread the day my S8 dies and I'll have to buy a phone without a customizable button.
Running the adb-commands on you computer to get it to work seamlessly is very much worth it.
I use BxActions:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_AU
It allows you to fully disable the bixby button and even remap the button so you can have extra actions, I have double press to enable the flashlight and long press to enable/disable notification sounds.
If you dont want to spend money (I think it totally worth it) you can disable the bixby packages via ADB
Install BxActions and remap the button or just disable it.
You need to run an exe file from PC that you will find in bxactions folder in the internal memory of you phone.
Connect your phone with your PC and navigate to the folder and run the exe file to have full access for the app.
If this were trivially possible to achieve without the use of a third party application, don't you think everyone would take that route?
I use bxAxctions to govern the Bixby button. You could also use Tasker.
Bxactions let's you remap the button to a wide variety of things. You can even make it work while the phone is locked by plugging in your phone to the computer and clicking a few buttons.
Disable bixby home and you'll never see bixby again.
Edit: turns out the computer unlock gives direct actions instead of running through bixby (making it basically mandatory imo), but it's all free and is pretty simple. Seems to be a limitation of the OS in that you need to use developer tools to change certain things.
I used this app
on my Note 8 to kill Bixby.
Just follow the directions to enable full remapping and it'll vlet you reprogram the button and nuke Bixby.
I actually like the Bixby button...
Mostly because it's now a fully reprogrammable thanks to Bxactions.
There is an app BX actions that can disable it.

Works on my Note 9, no root required
Download bxActions.
I don't understand why people complain about this so much. Just get this.
bxActions I use it for my flashlight. Haven't had any issues.
Here is the link for those interested:
Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions.
Or a similar one:

You can disable it, you can also remap it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This is the main reason I made this post, to save lost souls such as yourself!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Enjoy!
Why do you use three gesture apps?
I use:
AdGuard - Best adblocking solution for Android
AdHell 3 - Disabled some bloat I don't use
bxActions - Y'all know what it is
Youtube Vanced - This one too
GoodLock 2018 apps (All of them)
Energy Bar - I'm obsessed with battery and I used to look at every percent it got drained during usage. So I disabled the batter icon in the status bar with Quickstar and replaced with this neet bar. So much better and cooler to look at and you don't see the percentage drops every time :D
Walloop - This is personal choice of an wallpaper app. They are all pretty much the same, I just installed it first and did not change it as I like it.
Yes, I've been using bxActions (in the play store) for years to rebind the button to my flashlight.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Bxactions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
It's awesome and allows you remap double presses, long presses, and more.
bxActions. If already installed — just run again .exe on the Windows PC with the debugging mode enabled on the phone.
Probably bxActions (I use it too).
There is a third party app called Bxactions for remapping the bixby button. Also I agree touchwiz is awful but you can change the launcher, I use evie launcher, but Nova launcher is really popular also.
Also I've heard that using the pixelcameraapk helps with the camera quality software wise.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
If it doesn't yet work the the S9, give it a week.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
For all your remapping pleasure.
I believe there's an app that lets you assign that button to any action you want.
Edit: It's called bxActions.
Best app by FAR is Bixby Button Remapper - bxActions https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
I have been using it for over a month now and it is amazing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Bxactions has a work around for the Bixby lockdown, so you can enable it for Google Now.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
That's a gift for you :)
(can turn off Bixby button or make it do anything you want, like turn on flashlight)
In bxactions there is an option for screen on/off.
Here you go. (Nudge nudge) :) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
It doesnt solve the problem of the button existing, but you can remap it so it goes to whatever app you want instead of bixby https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Can you remap the Bixby button using BxActions?
I use this one, but tbh I got used to Bixby and now use him... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
bxActions app, plus running a couple of ADB commands from a computer to grant permissions.
Download this app and replace the bixby button with any custom actions you want! Trust me it works and it's amazing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Theres also an app to do all this and more directly: bxActions
its all free, enjoy!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions

I fucking hate Bixby and now I turned them in buttons I actually need (like auto rotation on and off)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
the best, worth the $ too
You can do it via android settings but I used this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Requires bxActions Pro, but well worth the $3 (Free limited version link)
bxActions is the app you want. It allows you to disable the bixby buttons and also remap it.
Thank you and have a nice day. Don't want to see, hear, or smell Bixby.
Nova Launcher is great on my S8+. Use bxactions to remap the Bixby button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
BxActions no root needed.
You have to use an app. I use this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I've tried a few of them and came to the conclusion that bxActions is by far the best & most consistent.
Completely agree: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
If you don't have the update yet, you can try to download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions and enjoy the remapping while you can
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I bound mine to my flashlight, works perfectly
I just set mine to do precisely nothing.
Would bxActions change the behavior sufficiently for your needs?
To remap the Bixby hardware button (I have mine mapped to the flashlight)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
bxActions could be what you're looking for.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
It'll only do screenshots though
BxActions is the app to remap Bixby and Volume buttons with Single, Double and Long Press Actions.
Uh, ok. I mean you can learn most of this just by digging around in the settings and playing around a little, Samsung are pretty good at explaining their features. If you've dug around at all then you probably know all of these, but these will work with most recent-ish Samsung phones:
Double tap power button from anywhere (even when screen is off) to launch camera. It should tell you that the first time you launch the camera, but if you don't already use that shortcut I recommend you get used to doing it. Great for when something's happening and you really wanna capture it in time.
Turn off all the Bixby stuff. Bixby Routines are useful but not sure if the S9 has those. You can remap the dedicated Bixby button to something useful using BxActions
Smart Capture (the screenshot thingy) also has an toggle where you can take a screenshot by moving your palm or the side of your hand across the screen, from left to right. It's on by default. Takes a little getting used to but if you take a lot of screenshots it's pretty useful.
Swipe down from the notification bar, swipe down again to open the quicktoggles, and hit the ... button in the top right, then go button order. You can reorder the buttons and also get rid of the ones you never use.
Settings > Display > Blue light filter, hit that and set it to turn on as scheduled, sunset to sunrise. It filters out the blues from your screen once the sun goes down, which is better for your eyes and helps you sleep better if you use your phone before bed. But honestly, just don't use your phone for like 30-60 minutes before bed. Disconnect and wind down. It's good for your brain (probably).
Settings > Sounds and vibration > Do not disturb, you can schedule when this turns on and off. This is great for me because I know people in lots of different time zones and I don't want to get loud ass notifications at 4 in the morning.
The best thing about most Samsung phones, especially the S range, is the screen. If you go to Settings > Display > Screen mode and set it to vivid, it makes all the colours pop a bit more and everything just looks a bit more vibrant. Unless you particularly need colour accuracy, which something tells me you don't.
If you're not that fussed about security and haven't done this already, do the face recognition setup in Settings > Lock screen and security. It's a really convenient way to unlock your phone.
Settings > Lock screen and security > Smart Lock has some good settings, too. Lets your phone stay unlocked when in certain places, in your pocket, if connected to a trusted Bluetooth device, or if it recognises your voice.
Go to the Samsung Galaxy Store and download Good Lock. It's a customisation app with a bunch of modules you can download to customise stuff on your phone. You can fine tune stuff like the position of everything on your lockscreen, the layout of the Always On Display, the notification drawer, Edge Lighting, all that stuff. There are built in themes if you don't want to manually fiddle with stuff.
Go outside next time it's raining during the day, and record a snippet using the super slow-mo mode on the camera. It's pretty cool. You can see individual raindrops and shit.
You can remap it to volume down with bxActions.
I use bxActions to turn on flashlight. Works perfectly and without delay after remapping from PC.
bxActions can do this.
I had some stuff come up so it took me awhile to get this posted.
One UI:As someone on T-Mobile with a Note 8, I am still waiting for that update. The biggest change is the ergonomics of the interface which is now designed with phones rather than desktops in mind. This means that most of the tabs and buttons are now at the bottom of the screen which makes one handed use much easier. Overall you will like it and it won't take much time to get used to. It does have an included dark mode toggle which is nice if you don't want to set up any themes yourself and it is already black/grey.
Themes:This part is a bit of a downside to the phone. You have to get your theme from the Galaxy store to use for system wide coloring because Android 9.0/One UI broke Substratum and other 3rd party theme makers. The free themes you can use are extremely limited and you need to apply as a developer to upload/create your own. It is way more complicated than it has to be and yes it is an actual application which is a small theme mockup. Themes come as icon pack+keyboard+wallpaper+background image+system wide UI color+sounds/alarms+fonts but you will change most of those immediately. The free Galaxy store themes are pretty much all trash and it will take time getting one you like because many themes apply a background image under your contacts/messaging/settings apps even if the system wide colors are nice. Here is an example of a dark grey theme, pure black, and mine which is ColorPop_Dark or sometimes Black Onix.
Good Lock:Changes notification bar by disabling unnecessary icons and gives you full color controls. Icons On . . . Icons Off. Here is how you can customize your notification drop down panel.
Bixby Button:Currently I am using BxActions to remap it to the following commands.
Keyboard:I use Google Keyboard with pure black theme.
Navigation bar: I use Navbar Apps to color the nav bar to the color of the app I am using (you can manually changed it per app too if you want).
Or better yet if you have a Samsung phone, bind the bixby button to toggle the flashlight
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I also recommend bxactions it's easy to use and i do recommend running the .exe that's in the folder on the phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
yes i use bxActions
It's called bxactions https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Never tested Bixby. Never will. I've used BxActions since day 1
There's an app for remapping the Bixby button: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I use this app. It doesn't require root.
bxActions will do this for you, might have to get the $2.99 pro version but very worth it.
Just install bxactions, remap it or disable completely
This works on my galaxy s9+, no bixby button for me... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
All i can offer is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPDCWbB7KAI
Look under more for links and see app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Has a variety of options. I bought the full version. Well worth it.
BxActions is the way that I changed it, pretty easy to set up and some decent customization.
There's an app that reprograms it without needing to root Bixby button remapper
Bxactions is what you are looking for.
If you want to reprogram it to your personal use...I use the app bxActions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
To enable some features you'll have to plug it into a computer for an install but it's really easy
it's a 3rd party app, I think you need to run adb commands for some features
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Nope; I also use it and definitely am not rooted. Can't recommend it enough! Link.
I have Bixby remapped with BxActions and it works fine on Oreo.
You can disable it yes and then use bxActions to remap it to whatever you want. Works perfectly on my S9.
Then don't take 10 seconds to remap it.
bxActions - Bixby Button Remapper
And you can just press the home button to turn the screen on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
That is what I downloaded. Never prompted me to download anything else and I eventually paid $ to unlock the full app.
Samsung would never do it, nobody would use Bixby then. There are apps to do it though
You can remap the button without root.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This app works great
Nope, bxActions
There are dedicated apps to remap the bixby button such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en
But I personally think this is based on the misconception that Bixby is a competitor to Google Assistant where in truth they are complementary. Check out this short video to see what I mean and what to do with Bixby : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67PsQAqwoyI
There are quite a few things Bixby is good at that Google Assistant just doesn't do. And vice-versa. Think of Bixby has a way to control your phone/android hands free versus Google Assistant that is more an excellent "voice search".
Seconded. I've had the best luck with the hybrid mode from the pro version ($2). Link for the lazy (free version):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
one of the dozen ways:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
they are all far from perfect though.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
It's on play store.
Try this bad boy. I haven't had any problems with it.
Have you tried this app instead? Bx Action let's you remap the button completely.
Sure. The goal was to start/stop recording speech to text transcription with Otter.ai via Bixby button press with the screen either on or off. This required a few additional downloads...
bxActions - to remap the Bixby button
Otter.ai - the actual transcription app
Tasker Permissions - to easily re-enable ADB permissions (required every restart if not rooted)
TaskerLauncherShortcut Plugin and Companion project - to start recording
AutoInput and Popup Widget 3 - to stop recording (I'm working on a cleaner solution to avoid this)
AutoNotification - to check recording status (and manage the LED if I ever get that working)
Ground work would be enabling ADB permissions, remapping the button, making a popup widget, and getting the intent string like mentioned in the thread that you linked to store in%recordintent.
%CanRecord is separately toggled on/off to avoid accidental recording.
Vibe Custom is a task that does what its name suggests.
Popup widget seems to require the screen being on, so it has to be temporarily activated.
Then this task does the heavy lifting...
Task: Toggle Otter Transcription

I use this app for years, it has integration with tasker and what you want. One of the best apps.
That's an app called BX Actions
Don't know if it works with A51 but worked with my previous s8
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
That's the free version, there is a $3.49 paid app also that unlocks all the features.
Look into bxactions to give that bixby button a new life. Still works on my note 9.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
BxActions, an app to remap the Bixby button for Galaxy S10 series. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This is the one I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en&gl=US
I was able to disable the Bixby button without being rooted. I believe I used this app to do so.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US&gl=US
(not affiliated in any way)
Luckily since android is so open there's an app that will let you rebind it to do what ever you want https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US&gl=US
I hate Bixby with a passion and use BxAction to actually do something handy with the buttons
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I doubt it but you could still check. The S21 Ultra doesn't have one anymore so can't do it myself.
I use this to remap the bixby button works good enough for me. The quick launch option isn't available in my region.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
That's what I use: double click while off for normal flashlight, double click and hold for full power.
BXActions
Read how to use ADB carefully to unlock full potential of the app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en&gl=US
I recommend you try bxActions to remap the button from Bixby to Google Assistant (or something else).
If you don't use bixby, I think bxaction (bixby button remapper) app is a good one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
For anyone with a samsung, this app is great. I used it to ditch bixby and get a dedicated flashlight button
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Have you tried Bixby Button Remapper?
bxactions setup is made really easy by showing you what to do. That's pretty cool.
i got rid of it with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Definitely run the shell command on your computer, it makes using the app buttery smooth.
Same thing, download Bixbi Button Remapper
This is truly the best answer. Link to Play store. Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions
Hab ein s10e und man kann das super einfach ausschalten. Auch ohne root und mit dieser App kannst du die Bixby Taste frei belegen. Ich hab z.B. die Bixby Taste als Stummschalter wie beim iPhone belegt.
The app I use is free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
yes, bxAction
For the Quick Settings app to be able to invert colors you just need to run this adb command on a computer: adb shell pm grant it.simonesestito.ntiles android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS (It's listed in the app's Play Store description.) After make sure ADB is installed first though.
Hmm, with my Tab S I have Direct Access set up so pressing my home button quickly 3 times inverts colors. On my S10 it gives me the option to invert colors when I press the power button and volume up button at the same time. Usually Direct Access settings let you set up some combination of button presses as a shortcut to invert colors. Don't go to the "Vision" screen. Usually Direct Access has it's own settings, under Accessibility > "Advanced Settings" or something similar.
As for the S10, I use BxActions, though there's also Button Mapper. I think both of them can only use Tasker integration if you buy the pro version.
Tasker is an automation app which integrates with a lot of third-party apps. It's paid, but there is a 7 day trial version. To get Tasker to invert colors, you need to run an ADB command.
Then I made a new Tasker task. I called it "Invert Colors", so I could recognize it. Then I pressed the big round button to add a new action. Then to to the category called "Settings" > Custom Setting. You can press the magnifying glass icon next to "Name" and then do an action for it to automatically find the settings info you need to change that action. For my S10 it was:
Type: Secure Name: accessibility_display_inversion_enabled Value: =:=toggle=:=
Then I went to BxActions (which I had already set up. BxActions needs to be connected to a computer one time to remap the Bixby button), went to Bixbi Button > Single Press (you could also set it as Long Press or Double Press) > Launch Tasker Task. I selected my Invert Colors task, that I made earlier, and then everything works as I wanted it to. After all that, now every time I press the Bixby button it toggles the Invert Colors task on or off, so I use it as a makeshift night mode when using light-colored apps at night.
Hope that helps! :)
Why dont you program your bixby button to do this?
There is an app called bxactions that can execute tasker actions by pressing the bixby button:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
This can work even when the screen is turned off/locked.
Also, download the logitech harmony plugin for Tasker:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.chunkybacon.harmony.tasker&hl=en_US
Create a task to turn on your PS4 and then map it to a button press in bxactions. I should tell you it's been a couple of years since I used the harmony plugin so I don't know if it's still being developed.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.
Bixbi Button Remapper will sort that out for you
I've used this on my old s9 but it should work on the fold too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You're welcome by the way this is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I have the pro version which gives you more options, best $1-3 I ever spent
Pro version of this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
To answer your question: no.
To solve the problem, I found this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions which worked for me on the Note 9.
I do seem to notice that the app misspells "Bixby", so be judicious when considering the app.
Well that's not gonna happen.
Use this
We still have a separate power button and you can't change it .
What I've done is assigning Gcam to the Bixby button
This is a thing. I remapped the button previously but it'd always find a way to sneak it back, this seems to take.
Checkout bxActions. You can remap the button to do lots of different things depending on how you press the button. Single tap, double tap, double tap+hold.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Make sure you run the PC part too.
Download "Bixbi button remapper- bx actions" app from play store.
Link- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I do it! I use this app called bxactions on the play store, and I have set it to:
Of course, many of these are paid features, but coming from an OP3, I really needed a replacement for the alert slider.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
Why would you remove the button when you could simply remap it to be more functional with bxactions? Bxactions in Appstore
I use my bixby button to activate one-hand mode, take screenshots, Toggle vibrate/silent mode. There's quite a few options!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions works just fine.
I recommend the paid version.
BxActions can do this. I personally used it on my S10 Plus.
There are multiple ways to remap it. Some like using bxActions, which is one of the most popular remapping apps, Button Mapper or Bixby Button Assistant Remapper, while others prefer to use native settings to disable or assign specific actions to the button.
Do note that using native settings will provide far fewer options but it does tend to work smoother overall. I personally use native settings, configured to launch a UI-less/ad-free flashlight app, Icon Torch, on a single Bixby button press, but it can be configured for two presses as well, depending on the user's preferences.
Remapping as well with bxactions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
There's an app I use called bxactions that lets you remap the button. You could pick another app for the button to open, or assign it an action like pause/play media
edit: link
bxactions app, make it do something useful. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I have not tried it myself, but bxActions does have an action called "Launch tasker task". It should be possible to create a task to toggle whatever it is you need and have the Bixby button call this task on single press, double press, long press, or double press and hold. Tasker also has Widgets and shortcuts which can call tasks, so you could have that on your home screen.
With this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
By far the best one. There is a paid premium version but it's worth it. Also, to use its full potential you have to connect it to a computer and open an exe to give the app more accessibilitys (not harmful and an detailed explanation is in the app)
I don't remember which one I was looking at before, but searching the play store got me this?
You might be pressing the Bixby button by accident. I used this app to remap the bixby button to something else and I have never gotten Bixby notification after.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
Tho it's not easy to install as you'll need to connect to a PC for the app to do some shenanigans to disable Bixby.
Allow me to introduce you to bxActions (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_CA), which lets you remap the Bixby button to something else and disable Bixby from the home screen. I haven't seen or heard from Bixby in years, but my dedicated flashlight button sure is convenient!
bx actions! Been using it for 2ish years now.
There are third party apps you can use to remap it. If I'm in a camera app the bixby button takes a photo, otherwise it toggles my flashlight
Edit: link to the app I use, if anyone is interested
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I use this. I don't know if the remap works, but I just use it to stop the Bixby button from working.
Gonna plug bxactions here. Let's you program that damn button that no one asked for to do something actually useful.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I found one of my old comments from a while ago dealing with this issue.
To remove Bixby from Samsung devices, I personally would recommend to either purchase Package Disabler or use ADB . If you are not as technical savvy, I would go with option 1 and purchase the app that does it for you. If you are technical savvy, go to xda and find the links that give you the name of the Bixby packages and disable them through ADB.
Once the Bixby packages have been removed, download this on the Google Play store and remap.
I personally used it for my S10+ and have remapped the button for a flashlight (single tap), and camera (double tap).
The above guide also works for removing bloatware packages as well. However, do take the proper precautions though as I'm not responsible for you deleting/disabling something you should not have.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Because of this app I'll genuinely miss the Bixby button in the next generation of phones
I've set it double press for flashlight (from lock/black screen) And single press in menu for last used app, Also got press and hold for multiwindow and I actually get some use out of that previously unused feature from time to time
Enjoy! Full version Defintly worth it!
b Actions - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Use this app, and instead of having the annoying-as-fuck Bixby, you suddenly have a fully remappable, fully versatile hardware button. It makes it really useful. I use mine for media playback shortcuts and as a hardware button for the flashlight. It's super useful! I would highly recommend.
BxActions does this. I use it myself for that exact thing.
Only niggle is that without paying for pro it will cycle through loud, vibrate and silent rather than just loud and vibrate
you can remap button function with bxAction https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_CA
You also need to connect your phone to a PC to unlock the full functionality (one-time procedure that takes all of 2 minutes). Read the instructions in the app.
I used Bixby Button Remapper. It's so much better.
Is this the app? I found it by looking up bxActions but that's not what it's called in the play store.
Edit: nevermind, I'm dumb. BxActions is the subtitle.
It's a fantastic app.
Guess you never spent 5 mins of research and found https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US which has existed since months of the S8's release and works perfectly to disable the button OR change it to do anything you want.
I personally remapped it so that, while my screen is unlocked, it turns on the flashlight. Which I find insanely useful.
Try bxActions. You have to run an adb
script to make full use of the app, but when you do, you can effectively remap the Bixby button. I've got mine set to play/pause on a short click and toggle silent mode on a long press.
Download Bxactions. Then you can set the Bixby button to open the notifications. Works everywhere.
Or, more official, install One Handed Operation. There you can either do a control center esque thing. Does a bunch of stuff, or just set it to straight up open notifications.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
use the bixby button remapper!)l
Actually you can do it with bxActions app.
I have short press mapped to Google Assistant and Long Press to Home Assistant.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=cs
There's also BX actions, does the same thing as above and allows you to remap the buttons.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB
It's not a solution to the problem, but I'd recommend using a re-mapper. The way I have it set up, I mostly use it for the led flash on lock screen, and to double tap for screen shot. I highly recommend it
Well, you can install an app on her phone called Bxactions. You Note users don't really need it because it looks like Samsung gave up.
Have you tried bixbi button remapper? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Allows you to disable it as well but personally I think it's better to make it serve a function.
Not the power button, but since you have a samsung s9, use bxactions , you can re-purpose the bixby button, the pro version cost a bit but its worth it.
It let you use different combinations when the phone is sleeping, or when its on. I use it to quick access keep for note taking, quick flashlight, quick access to full screen mode, etc, you can use it for a lot of things.
Use BxActions from the Play Store. Make sure you enable full remapping (you need a PC to basically double click a setup to activate it).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Using this, you can set it to call Google Assistant or Google Now, as well as set actions for double click, long press, etc.
Do this
1) Install bxActions
2) Enable full mapping
3) Enjoy having Bixby disabled and using the button for what you want.
bxActions and sideActions (for the Note10/10+ users) are some of the best apps that a Samsung owner can use.
Bixby is Samsung's assistant app (think OK Google/Alexa/Siri).
The shortcut key is the one on the left of the device under the volume keys. You can change the behavior of this button with an app like bxActions.
You can turn off the pane on the home screen by disabling it in the home screen setup (long press, the same way you add a widget) by scrolling all the way to the left and toggle it off.
Bixbi Button Remapper is great for getting rid of Samsung's annoying Bixbi and using Google Assistant instead, or whatever other app you want. Root not necessary.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Copied from my other comment:
BxActions](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions) for us Bixby haters.
BxActions for us Bixby haters.
Diable it and use this app to make the button do whatever you want.
I honestly love the Bixby button because I remaped it with bxActions. I eventually bought the pro version because I found it so useful. I have mine sent to turn on/off light, sound/vibrate, Samsung pay, and something else I forgot. You can even remap the volume keys to do extra things.
It lets me remap the Bixby button to actually be useful.
With this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I am using it on a Galaxy S8. The app works but by default a bixby window appears for a fraction of a second but you can disable this with a small amount of work. There should be a small instruction in the app. I don't know if this "fraction of a second thing" also happens on a Galaxy S10E.
EDIT: Not what you asked for but you could also use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kalantos.shakelight&hl=de it gives you the "chop chop" gesture from motorola phones to open the flashlight. It's important to exclude it from all battery savings options.
Did you try this.?.?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You can Buy the pro version for some more options.
Well worth it.
I've bought the app BxAction from the Play Store. With it I've remapped the Bixby key to mute on single click and long press for torchlight. I use it on a day to day basis hence buying the app was worth it for me. But you'd need to give it adb access. Since you're a "simple phone user" it might be difficult but it's quite easy if you follow its instructions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Hope it helps
I use this, it's a 3rd party remapper
If you use bxactions, you can remap bixby key to a tasker task. Tasker can snap photos with a task like this: http://www.hackmyandroid.com/tasker-take-a-quick-snap-using-your-camera-and-save-it-to-gallery/9658
Have you tried the "bx actions" app? It lets you program the Bixby button to whatever action or app you want. You could program that button to launch OneNote with a single press or a double press, for example.
This is the app of which I speak: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Link for the lazy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
I've used it on an S8+ and S10+ without issue.
Install bxActions. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Here you go:
A lot of people have posted on this sub about it too. Check it out.
Make sure you enable Full Remapping in the settings! It's a bit of a process but totally worth it.
A great little app called Bxactions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You can change the Bixby button without root
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You could try this app. I've had good luck with it.
I downloaded this and then bought pro through the app. Honestly, it's really hard to fuck this up.
I actually don't like bixby stuff. Removing it allowed me to free bixby button an use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions to re-map it.
Also removed all the carrier pushed apps.
Bx actions is awesome. It's free, I got the pro one and it adds even more customization.
Edit: here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Regarding the Bixby button, you can download bxActions on the Play Store to be able to fully remap it. You can remap to single, double, long, double press and long actions and are very customizable. To take full advantage of the button you'll have to do the following:
Step 1 is enough to remap the button but the actions might not take place immediately and you'll have limited functionality.
It's because you are using the basic remap. Instead, you need to use the ADB Commands.
I use BX Actions and it works flawlessly. He also has guides on how to enable the full permissions through your PC or Mac.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
No root needed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
To get full remapping (where bixby doesn't show up for a second and go away, and then google assistant pops up) plug in your phone into a PC and browse the files on your phone. Phone -> bxActions -> bxActions.exe and click full remapping mode and everything should now work and in the app you can set bixby to whatever you want.
Not sure if triggers all commands (I use bixby button for flashlight) but I think bxActions. You can allow bxactions to take control of the volume commands as well (requires a computer to activate this feature)
Download bxActions. Problem Solved. Free version has decent enough, albeit limited functionality. Good enough for me. The $3 version has a bunch of other features that would be useful.
Also there is the option to root your phone. I've wanted to install a less tied down version of this S9 OS/UI, but I don't have the time to research every option out there...so I just stick with bxActions.
Yeah, but you are limited to what you can do. Well worth the $3
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Wack.
So therefore we don't need to use the like of the following any more would that be correct:
bxActions (Bixby Button Remapper) is my favorite thing ever.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
I have it remapped as back, and I'm low key concerned I'll never be able to have a different phone again.
You set it up with this app. Loads of options to set the button to, as well as shortcuts using the volume buttons is you want https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You should be able to remap the bixby button, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
You can change it with an app called Bixbi Button Remapper - bxActions. I did it the day I bought my phone. It let's you map the button to pull up Google Assistant instead. Not the best solution (I would love to be able to map it to whatever I want) but way better than Bixby.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions

First thing I did with my new note 9 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions) :)
Using the bxActions app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Depends if the Zello developers have created shortcuts for other apps to take advantage of. First of all, remapping the button is NOT free, and it disables Bixby completely, which I love, but you may not.

I have it set up so one push of the Bixby button toggles silent with vibrate or sound mode on.
A double click turns on the flash light.
A long Press opens Google Assistant. The real MVP over Bixby.

Download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_AU And follow the instructions. You will need to plug your phone into a PC to unlock the feature, but it's pretty straight forward. If you can't do it on your own let me know and I will be happy to help.
You can remap the Bixby button using bxActions.
> I don't want to have to change a launcher, but that is definitely an option at the moment! I just don't understand Samsung's approach to this.
I think you do understand it; you just don't agree with it. I don't agree with it either, to be clear, but I think you understand it: it's Samsung doing what any company who wants their customers to adopt their particular flavor of the month/year: they try to force it on consumers and see what sticks. Sometimes they're more obnoxious or accepting than others. Apple took 3 iterations of the iPhone to finally admit that customers wanted copy and paste. Microsoft has tried to jam Bing and Edge down our throats using various methods for years. And Samsung is using an easily (and accidentally) pressed button to try to force usage of Bixby. It's the same thing; just a different product and company.
This is Samsung being Samsung. If you otherwise like their products, just buy bxActions - Remap Buttons and Package Disabler Pro and call it good. Yes, you have to spend around $6.50 (total) to get the phone to work the way you want. No, you shouldn't have to do this. But once you do, and spend around an hour learning how to disable Bixby, you're done.
Consider it this way: how much time did it take you to write this post? While I don't doubt it was cathartic, it did take time. Also consider how much you make in an hour at your job. Does it exceed $6.50? Most likely. So you're going to spend an hour of your time making at least $6.50 to buy the apps, and another hour to learn to use them and get your phone set up the way you want. Then you're done, and can move on with your life. Is two hours of your time worth not having to deal with this? Is the price of coffee and a donut (or two) worth getting rid of this stress you're dealing with? I'd posit that it is. :-)
As an aside, consider using Nova Launcher. No, not because of Bixby; because it's a much better launcher with many nice options. You don't have to, but I'll bet you'll like it better. Yes, it's worth the $0.99 upgrade to Prime, but you can try it before you do so don't worry about that. Also use the Samsung Apps app to download Good Lock and its associated apps. They're all free and offer a ton of nice functionality options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions

This should work for you. I've mapped it to toggle a Tasker profile, open the camera and open task manager.
Welcome fellow WP refugee.
You can install Cortana. You can use this app to remap the button, or deactivate it, although it's not really known if Samsung will patch this app at some point
That's the way it is, I miss Windows phone.
No idea, again I miss Windows phone. :)
Hope someone else can help you a bit more.
This application has been working fantastically for me, bxActions
Yup. I used this on the Note 8.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
That's why bxActions is our friend ;)
i have bixby voice for voice setting stuff, but i've disabled bixby home and use nova Launcher, to get google home swipe to work. i use
bxactions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB
Nova Google Companion: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/nowcompanion
Have you already bought a Bixby button remapper app, and are you interested in one? You could either buy the pro version for bxActions or for Button Mapper. Both have free versions I recommend trying out first and seeing which you like better.
Another app category I'd recommend taking a look at is automation. Some of the popular ones are Tasker, Automate Automagic, and MacroDroid. Most are available free or for trials, and I'd recommend you try them before buying one.
User this app to point to the bixby button to the screen record app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
This is a Bixby remapper. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
>am I able to remap that button to say screen shot or something?
Yes you can with a third party app like bxActions, Button Mapper or BixBye.
You can turn that useless button into a pretty convenient app switcher with bxActions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I have... Single Press = Back, Double Press = Home, Hold = Assistant, Double press and Hold = Recents
That is just completely wrong. You can program it to do multiple things. If you want basic functionality, you need to install an app from the market. If you want advanced functionality, you need to use ADB commands to enable several permisions to the app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions Use adb to allow permissions
Pretty much first thing I did with my S8. Did Google not replace your Pixel when it did the mic thing? They sent me a warranty replacement for mine, but it was like three months old at that point.
The app is called Bxactions, linked here.
Follow the instructions in the app itself to remap the button. Also, there's a split second lag and bixby opening and then closing if you just install the app and remap the button. You'll have to follow the in-app instructions and use the ADB commands to remove that lag.
Is it possible to use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
so that you can take pictures with the bixby button?
I mean that used to be the case, but you can literally download an app from the PlayStore to do it. No root or any technical wizardry required.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB
It's a simple app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
For #5, seriously look at BxActions. Works perfectly on Nougat or Oreo. No root required. Just run a quick ADB command and you're gold. You can remap press / long-press / double-tap to different commands. It even lets you remap the volume buttons too, if you wanted. It's surprisingly slick. https://i.imgur.com/oQ1FH3t.png
I'm not sure, I only have an S9+. Here's a link to it in the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
Make it do cool things.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Or use BxActions. Honestly, there are several good options for no-root Bixby button remapping.
I used Bixby Button Remapper BX Actions. Are we allowed to post links like that? If not, I will remove.
Yes, using bxActions. Be aware Samsung could break this at any time. Personally I just have the button disabled all together, I kind of forget it's there and that's fine by me.
You can use bxactions to reprogram the bixby button. Found this out at /r/GalaxyNote8
I have mine remapped to back, home, and recents with different pressing patterns. link here for the random reader with an S8
Go to the Play Store and download the app called "bxActions."
This will do exactly what you want, it's also what majority of the community uses to change it like myself too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions is my best best friend for that cursed Bixby button. Just glad I had Bixby home disabled in Adhell before I updated to the Oreo beta. And the upgrade to pro is really worth it. Makes the button into a very programmable one, even has different actions when your device is on or locked.
I mean you can remap it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=de
It just does not work as good as before when Samsung tried to prevent it.
You can disable and reconfigure the button to a different command. I don't even own a note8 and literally 5 seconds of typing it into google and I get bxactions app that does all of that.
For something you would use a wish for, you sure didn't do a lick of an attempt to have it the way you wanted anyway.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
There's a couple of apps that let you remap the button. Link
Here you go. Remap that bixby button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
1-) Not remove, but disable (without root)
2-) Yes: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
3-) Yes, assuming the device has been rooted and there is a vanilla Android ROM for the phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I also have double press to skip song and long press for Google Assistant
Link for the lazy
Description :
With bxActions you can remap your Bixby button to any action or app you like! Use the Bixby button launch your camera, silence phone, take a screenshot or launch any app you like!
You can even remap the Bixby button to launch google assistant :) With Bixby shutter you can take pictures using the Bixby button! Theres also an option to disable the Bixby button completely.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Both Require adb command to work perfectly
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
You can have Assistant now with bxActions
He used this for Bixby and so far it works as intended.
Using the bixby remapper app bxActions
bxActions has already been mentioned in this thread - that's what I use to remap the button to open the camera instead of Bixby.
I'm on latest firmware (AQF7) and using bxActions to remap the Bixby button (to open the camera).
No rooting needed. Works very well for me.
FWIW - The bxActions app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions) works well for me (at least for now, I'm sure Samsung will try to block it and other similar apps) and can also be set up to function as shutter release when the camera is active. Alternatively remap it to Google Assistant but for me long-hold home button or "Ok, Google" works fine for that.
i downloaded a remaping app for bixby and changed the app that opens noroot required
i set mine to my alarms as i change them often but you can set it to anything you like its a quick access button now
try this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&rdid=com.jamworks.bxactions
edit, never mind, i see you can't do volume with that app, but it has lots of other options. I'm about to test.
It appears the app does not work. :(
Download this app BxActions and you can remap it to something more useful! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en
I'm using this one.
I used this app on my s9. Same dev has a different app for the newer galaxys that use the power button for bixby. I highly recommend doing the “advanced “ installation that requires a windows pc. It makes the whole experience absolutely seemless
I don't know if this app still works, but if it does, Bxactions will allow you to remap your Bixby key to perform a different action, or to do nothing. Last time I checked, it didn't require root.
Link to app in Google Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions cause all the options available.
Check out bxActions Pro, its pretty much the holy grail of Bixby key remapping:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
As long as you have a decent case and take care of the phone, you should be OK.
For Bixby remapping, you need this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
Use bxActions to make Bixby button useful.
I suggest to use the stock launcher and see if you like it. If not, try Nova Launcher
For reddit's app i suggest Boost
Personalize it with the Samsung Themes or try Swift Installer (totally worth the price)
I also use BxActions, here's a link for the lazy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
You should be able to turn it off. You can turn it off on the s8+ for sure. But, I would recommend installing this app instead so you can remap the button to whatever you want. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_US
Not true.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB
I did it a week after I bought my S8.
Wonder why it got that confused, it's not that difficult a question. What a waste of a good clicky button Bixby is, thank fuck for BxAction
FYI, bxActions works for customizing the Bixby key however you want.
Nope, but bxActions will let you. To get the best results you need to go through the ADB setup through your computer to give it more permissions than it can get on the phone itself. You'll also need a package disabler to completely get rid of Bixby Home, I use BK Package Disabler. With the way I have it setup a single press of the Bixby key instantly (without the ADB setup it can lag) brings up Google Assistant. It's around $2-2.50 to upgrade bxActions to "pro" and well worth it as you enable actions on double press, hold button down, remap volume buttons (single, double press, long press, and double press and hold).
Just to add to the list:
4) Yes, install bxactions (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en_GB) and use control mode, it enables you to remap the bixby key, I can press the bixby key now when phone is locked and it functions like the iPhone mute switch (Loud/vibrate) as an added bonus if I press and hold the bixby key I can turn my flashlight on and off :)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&rdid=com.jamworks.bxactions
Enable "compatibility mode."
I don't have a Samsung phone with bixby so I don't know whether these will work as intended, you might want to give these a look This app will let you remap the button https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions&hl=en This plug-in will let you disable parts of bixby. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobizsystems.mdm&hl=en
Not good enough for all the complainers I guess
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
