Here's my personal experience:
I'm a computer programmer. In my country technology trends aren't being followed closely and the most popular web programming languages are PHP, ASP and... Java. I'm a fan of more dynamic languages (Ruby, Python) and especially App Engine.
So, instead of working at a low paying job for some generic local software shop , I said "Fuck this shit" and started working on this project. Then released this simple library. During this time my family kept on objecting and pressure me to get "a real job", but I refused and kept working on my stuff.
Then I got a visa, came to London, interviewed a company that heavily works on App Engine and got the job. My current working conditions are pretty awesome as developers have autonomy and there's free beer and snacks at the office. Also, we're a subcontractor for Google, so we have our lunches in Google's cafeteria.
TL,DR: Worked on the projects I loved, got a great job in the end.
No, i use an ice cream scoop so i dont bend my spoons. Couple of bucks, save yourself some effort.

I always thoughts it was gamefacks, like gamefacts, because it contains facts (walkthroughs) about games. You've got to realize, this was in the .com bubble, when rushing to get any domain, legible or not, was a race where a lot of big sites had names with little rhyme or reason, so gamefacts spelled gamefaqs made a lot of sense to me. Their logo didn't really help to distinguish this difference too, since the lettering was all uppercase and the same height.
Then one day a friend says, "You know it's Game-F-A-Qs, right?". Oh boy, did I feel dumb.
Wil Wheaton likes your comment.
Also, I love how Richard Feynman used to break into the safes at Los Alamos that contained all these secrets and leave little notes saying "Guess who?" in order to show how bad their security was.
I used to, until I bought one of these.
It has a motor that imitates the sound of a fan, without the cold air, and it’s a goddamn game changer.
I like my iPhone.
If no one knew I had one, I couldn't give a shit.
Apple's focus is on the user-experience and I don't think anyone matches that. But you don't have to take my word for it...
Edit: according to this guy, beauty is a byproduct of evolution. Something shiny (resembling a pristine lake, for instance) would've been a good thing for early man to come across. So when I look at the smooth, shiny surface of my phone, I subconciously feel a positive evolutionary emotional response.
If a craftsman 100 thousand years ago could make something symmetrical, they possessed good traits (can keep a hand steady, attention to detail), not to mention they'd have an increased likelihood of access to expensive/rare tools, both of which would be impressive to mating partners.
If some people buy an iPhone because the industrial design seems "beautiful," it shouldn't be a surprise, we evolved to seek it out.
Straining on the toilet does apply more pressure to the rectum, but just sitting on the toilet seat alone will apply pressure due to the shape of the seat. It's fine if you're only on the toilet for short periods of time, but can lead to hemorrhoids if you sit for a long time. See "Causes": https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hemorrhoids/symptoms-causes/syc-20360268

And about half a dozen other such apps. These two together will completely clean up most sites though.
Autoruns should be used for this. Also, since it is bundled in it, I figure I should mention the sysinternals suite. It will give you a lot of tools if you have a little advanced knowledge on how to remove the nastier malware.
The carrot myth was started by the Brits during WWII to hide the fact that they had developed a more powerful radar. They told everyone that the pilots were just eating loads of carrots, and that's why they were doing so much better. source It's just persisted in popular culture for some reason...
Just a heads up that most flushable wipes aren't. Or shouldn't be. Unless your plumber needs to make a boat payment, in which case, flush away.
EDIT: Consumer Reports says, "Don't flush flushable wipes." as does The New York Times.
As someone who used this term from the mid-70s onward, I approve either this spelling, or "psych".
"Syke/Sike" make no sense except as (incorrect) phonetic attempts to spell "psych(e)".
"Psyche" is shorthand for "psych(ed you) out" a.k.a. "fucked with your head."
Yes.
In the U.S., people think that being rich entitles you to drive an expensive car, live in an expensive neighborhood, and wear expensive clothes.
So people will buy an expensive car, move into an expensive neighborhood, and purchase expensive clothes to have the appearance of being rich, when in fact they are deeply in debt.
Take a look at 'The Millionaire Next Door' by Thomas J. Stanley / William D. Danko.
The transition to capitalism and the invasion of American mega-conglomerates was not a net improvement for the people of the former Soviet Union. All the assets of the state were sold off more or less at gunpoint to very well connected, and now, very wealthy individuals, now known as the "oligarchs." Actually, this same process has been repeated all over the world time and again over the past four decades. The whole history is recounted in <em>The Shock Doctrine</em> by Naomi Klein, which I highly recommend reading.
Loads of the Fighting Fantasy books have been reimagined as ios and Android apps.

I disagree. It is usually easy to bypass the paywalls. My first line of defense is uBlock origin and

if that doesn't work I either use firefox reader mode, pull up inspect element and delete the paywall modal, or paste the link into archive.is.
I despise it for this reason: it is an ignorant (meaning doing something and not knowing the origin of the practice or why it is being done) homage to prison inmates. Prisoners don't get belts, or many choices in clothing sizes, so their pants sag. It isn't fashion behind bars, it is just another example of dehumanizing and apathetic treatment of prisoners (ill fitting clothes).
So, to have it replicated without this understanding on the street is particularly annoying. It is horrific that 1/3 of US black males have gone to jail during their lifetime, and it is now fashionable to emulate their sub-human conditions as part of youth culture.
This practice is not limited to the black community, but it should be understood by everyone.
TL;DR People who sag are modeling after prisoners and should know WHY they are dressing this way.

The "startle reflex" is because part of your brain will react to a stimulus before you become aware of the information. It's a very primal reflex so humans are able to react to possible danger before they become consciously aware of it.
Here is an article (or at the least the abstract of an article) that seems to go more in-depth. I didn't read anything but the abstract (and honestly, I don't know enough anatomy to be entirely sure of what the author is saying), but if you're interested I'm sure it could be a great thing to read.
I'm in the same boat, and so is my fiance. I would LOVE to hear from someone who loves their job. Also if anyone's been able to successfully pull off Timothy Ferriss's plan in "The 4-Hour Workweek"

You might like a clipboard manager. I use Klipper in Linux. I think there is a Windows version. Otherwise, there are at least one or two similar programs for Windows.

I used DragKing and MoveInactiveWin for a while.
Whole cuts of steak generally have only to be cooked on the outside to be rid of E. Coli. Salmonella can be throughout chicken, so it has to be cooked to 165 degrees, because in the states, 2 out of 3 have salmonella or campylobacter. It is recommended that steaks have an internal temp of 145.

It's Facebook Photo Zoom. You simply hover over any picture on Facebook, and it's enlarged to the size of half your screen. As you move your mouse outside of the original picture, it disappears. When you look through albums, instead of clicking through individual pictures (which not only takes forever, but sometimes freezes and doesn't load the next picture...), you just hover over the pictures in a row or column, and you get to see them in a size even larger than they would be if you clicked them.
The quote itself is actually a paraphrase of two different quotes from the book of Nicomachean Ethics. The context of the quote more or less has to do with thinking of an idea and allowing oneself to objectively look at another person's idea without believing in it right away. To rationalize the options of a decision without one's emotions being involved. However, "entertain" does have a broad spectrum of definitions, so I could be completely off. Although, I do feel that the quote, if interpreted this way, is out of context; the different interpretations based on varying definitions allow for a more open minded approach to the quote. Entertaining the fact that yes, this may be out of context, but accepting that there may be different interpretations. That's just how I see it.
The reason for this feeling is mirror neurons. Here's a really good TED talk on the subject.

Well if you want privacy on the internet you should use a VPN. I personally tried VPNUnlimited but found it too expensive, so now I've been using NordVPN, liked it during the trial. It is not free, but it is one of the cheapest high quality VPN’s and they don’t keep logs. I also suggest avoiding free VPNs at all cost, they won't give you the privacy you want
Ive been reading "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" lately and I think I see some connections. Im taking out my ass so take it with a grain of salt, but I think Rex has some very big advantages over Albert in specific areas that people tend to forget.
Rex is more big picture and creative. Albert is more specific, logical and linear. Rex is better at understanding the unspoken things that people say all the time by recognizing trends, habits and subtle hints. Albert is better at math problems and telling time. Rex can find patterns in chaos (sometimes even when there aren't any patterns). Albert is language, but Rex is art. Rex wants to party all the time, Albert wants to sort things. Rex is that aha moment when you suddenly realize how all the parts work together, and Albert is when you put the parts together and make them work.
Both have strengths and weaknesses. The trick is understanding how they work and what they want to do and playing to those strengths.
I use Alarm Clock Xtreme. You have to solve math problems before the alarm will turn off. Plus you can change settings like how long to snooze, how many times you can use snooze, etc.
Here you go.
Edit: I just realized this is not really a great source, but Google is littered with proper sources explaining how and why caffeinated beverages dont dehydrate you, as once believed.
On a relating note of lying to ones father.. There was this one time I microwaved a bar of soap with my friends (video link, like marshmallows but better), and afterwards we decided to put it back into my dads bathtub where we found it for laughs. However, when my dad got home later that day he was CONVINCED that the spray he used to clean the bath tub the day before had chemically reacted with the soap, making it grow. He us this super enthusiastically, and none of us said anything (feigning off laughter). To this day my dad still tells the story of how he used bathroom cleaner and made soap grow. And it's freaking hilarious every time.

You should use the app Precise Volume. It also defaults you to the media volume and doesn't drain your battery.
Edit: It does mention slight battery drain, so I'm guessing it uses the same method.
It's not suffering, it's evolving. Language is and always has been dynamic.

As others have said, meditation is the way to do this. My meditation is cooking and singing. I feel very 'in the moment', alive, focused, relaxed, happy when doing either of those things. I also have been doing a bit of Vipassana meditation which is essentially seeing the world exactly as it is. Mindfulness in Plain English is a great place to start.
The arbitrary rules are that different types of fish don't count (because that would make some letters too easy), and it has to be a dish (so randomly gobbling live ants doesn't give you an A). Also, names have to be in English (so no unagi for U), and it must be the species name (so cow instead of beef/veal).
Progress: I've located a source of kangaroo and yak meats for my K and Y, and my plan is to catch a vole for my V and cook it something like this. Also, I guess horse meat is legal now (in the US), so I'm working on that H.
Edit: So apparently eel's a fish.
Yeah, I think a lot of people are bothered by the fact that they have to act differently for different people, but that's just reality.
I think the closest I ever got to not doing this was when I was in the army, but that led to me dropping the "F-bomb" around elderly people and causing woman to burst into tears while making conversation (several times).
If we had the same personality for everyone, the world would be effing insane.

If it’s a feeling you have that passes it’s fairly common for everyone. I'm quite surprised at how good IE9 turned out. I'm going to try it out for a couple days. Loaded up hostsman for an ad blocking solution. I do miss some of my other extensions, but I've been having this strange problem with Opera where it'll crash and wipe out all my settings...extensions, everything. Chrome just has all its tabs crash randomly for me constantly and Firefox, well it just likes to hog the fuck out of memory and then leave its process open instead of actually closing. Chrome worked fine for me until the latest update. The update must have broken some extensions I'm using or something.
This is the first I've really used IE outside of work since Firefox was first released way back when. One thing is for sure, I'm going to miss RES while using IE.
I don't see any other late night talk show host who could have pulled off the History of Rap.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_there_Braille_lettering_on_drive-up_ATM_machines
>ATMs are manufactured for placement in many kinds of locations, some of which are accessed by visually impaired people: the lobbies of office buildings, for example. Because ATM manufacturers cannot predict with enough accuracy how many machines will need Braille pads and how many will not need them, they find that it is cost-effective to manufacture all of the machines with Braille pads. That procedure avoids problems of inventory, storage, retrieval, and shipment as well.
There was an article by Julian Assange titled "Google Is Not What It Seems" posted a while ago. I got through the first quarter of it and, aside from a few connections to the State Department, nothing relating to the title seemed important enough to interrupt the paragraphs of self-important narration Assange was compelled to provide as background.
A good essay should provide its thesis in the opening paragraph. Otherwise, the reader has no context with which to relate any information that follows.

I found the best way to start off was using guided meditation, I used an app called Calm, but you can also use headspace. They are 10 minute sessions so not too hard. I originally found when I first started, it was hard to have the discipline without it being guided.
Now it is a little easier, when I feel low energy, or stressed, I just close my eyes and focus on my breathes. Whatever thoughts come I let them, and then refocus. I am still not too far in my meditation journey, because I don't have a daily routine yet, which I plan to incorporate. A couple books I can suggest are Waking Up by Sam Harris, Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat Zinn, and Mindfulness Meditations.
I used to, obsessively. It got to be kind of heavy and paralyzing.
About this time last year I started reading up on intrusive thoughts, and I realized that this condition was not really normal. Moreover, I learned that people could train themselves mentally to ignore intrusive thoughts.
That was kind of an eye opener. You mean I don't have to sit through hours of misery and self-recrimination just because of a stray memory from twenty years ago? Tell me more!
I read up a bit on /r/Mindfulness and a few other books. They recommend meditation as a way of building mental discipline. It's not going to give you superpowers or anything, but it can train your mind to deal with intrusive thoughts more gracefully and effectively. I've found that I no longer dwell on past problems, and it's easier for me to step back these days from stressful situations as I encounter them.
Might be worth a look. The book I read was 10% Happier by Dan Harris. It's more about the search for a workable discipline rather than the discipline itself, although the appendix has step-by-step workmanlike instructions for meditating and training your mind to let go of thoughts easily.
Yeah, I guess that's a bit similar to mindfulness training I think. The difference is that in mindfulness, you neither invite nor push away any thoughts, you just look at them. The mind hat this weird mental gag reflex, where every thought that comes into your head is immediately labelled with "good" or "bad", which sets off a number of things, including anxiety. If you manage to loosen that reflex, good things happen.
I feel like I'm in a bit of a pickle here. As you might have noticed at this point, I really want to sell you on mindfulness meditation. Now, the reason I feel a bit awkward is because I don't want to be the annoying stranger on the internet who tells you -- someone who's seriously suffering -- how to deal with that suffering. I'm sure you tried more stuff than I can think of. On the other hand, I personally had really good experiences, and I think it might help you. So on the off-chance that it does, here's a link to the online version of Mindfulness in Plain English, in case you're interested. (You can also find the book on amazon)
I think this is best explained by the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". When you are focused on visual processing, you will loose track of time. This happens when focusing during drawing and art creation as well.
My 11th grade english teacher asserted that "silent granite outcroppings" was a theme of "Ethan Frome". I challenged her in class to explain why, asking if maybe I just read too quickly and didn't notice that they lived near a cliff face and it was supposed to represent stoicism or something. She simply said that the author said so in a speech once. I said "so if I write a short story about a little boy who swims a lap at the pool and say that the theme is "lime popsicles are the best flavour" that automatically makes it true?" and she told me to shut up and stop talking and just write down what she's saying.
This woman worshiped Ernest Hemmingway, and I later showed her a quote from "On Writing", which is a collection of some of his letters where he said something like 'Mostly the boat is just a boat, the fish is just a fish, and the dog is just a dog. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of shit". and she basically said that he just said that for people like me so we'd feel better and he didn't really mean it.
Watch the south park episode "The Tale of Scroty McBoogerballs" for a pretty cutting parody of this kind of thing.
The problem for most people is we spend a good chunk of our time thinking about what we need to do later today or thinking about something that happened yesterday. We are rarely in the present moment. I practice Zen meditation and mindfulness practice and it has helped me appreciate life as it happens. For example, when drinking your morning coffee, don't just gulp it down but really savor the taste of it and enjoy it. If you practice mindfulness for six months you and those around you will notice a big change in you.

Android phones can download an app to let them do this. Check this out.
Also Sprint had a feature that they charged for that did exactly this.
If the app is a single player game, I'll disable Wi-Fi before booting up the app. This blocks ads 95% of the time.
Eventually, I'm going to set up a Pi-Hole, which will block all ads on the network, including Youtube, etc.
Try making cold brew coffee, i use this instructable - http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Cold-Brew-Coffee/?ALLSTEPS
I use regular store brand value coffee, mind you, and it comes out fantastic. not bitter at all like regular coffee.
I think I feel similarly. Many of these traditions seem to be collages made from the fragments of ancient superstition and without much intrinsic purpose. We justify funerals as bringing closure to the grieving, but it seems like that could be accomplished without using taxidermy on our loved ones to feign life.
It really reminds me of the experiments with monkeys where they perpetuated tradition through fear. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Did_the_monkey_banana_and_water_spray_experiment_ever_take_place
I really thought of it as disgusting when I was younger, mostly because it seemed to come at a financial and environmental cost to embalm for the subjective benefit of getting to look at a dead body one last time before they put it in the ground pointed in a specific direction so that they rise facing their lord when he is arisen. I just wanted to believe that we as a society had moved past preserving our dead for revival, but by now I've seen enough funerals that I'm just fully conditioned to go through the movements and try my best to not get an erection thinking of doing things I'd rather be doing before the procession is over.

OLED motion blur is bad? I thought with it being LED based, the on/off frequency was super fast...
~goes off looking~
>The flicker of impulse-driven displays (CRT) shortens the frame samples, and eliminates eye-tracking based motion blur. This is why CRT displays have less motion blur than LCD’s, even though LCD pixel response times (1ms-2ms) are recently finally matching phosphor decay times of a CRT (with medium-persistence phosphor). Sample-and-hold displays continuously display frames for the whole refresh. Persistence (sample-and-hold) is a different measurement from pixel transitions (GtG). As a result, a 60Hz refresh (even on “2ms GtG” LCDs) is displayed for a whole 1/60th of a second (16.7ms persistence).
http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/oled-motion-blur/
Oh wow - so it's how it's used - rather than the tech itself. Display and hold, rather than display and blank.
What muppet thought that was a good idea?

I can't find anything about this - what's the problem with it?
Yep. I created an IFTTT applet to save my ‘Saved Posts’ Reddit links to my Dropbox. I thought that would make it more likely for me to check them out later, but not yet. The list continues to grow.
I absolutely hate bright (white) screens, especially that bright blue tint they put off. Therefore, I use this on just about any device I can put it on. It's a total eye saver.
Let me rephrase your question: "DAE think the musik they like to listen to in a car is best listened to in a car?"
Yes, very much. Here is a wonderful video on that idea.
http://www.ted.com/talks/david_byrne_how_architecture_helped_music_evolve.html
It basically states, that music changed with the places they are intended for. In a church you use an organ and hold the chords longer, because the echo of the large room makes quick changes unnoticable. For an earphone mp3 player you can create music with very subtle effects that still will be heard.
Sometimes I take a while to fall asleep but never had pins and needles. Is this webmd article describing what you feel? .... it's webmd so don't jump to the conclusion you're going to die though
Yup. Never really thought about it this way, but it almost like they're my band. This has been the case for Purity Ring and Seven Lions. Too bad you guys won't like either of these unless you had found them already.
Sometimes It's fun to look up the Etymology of words too, and find out how they came to mean what they mean, or why we say the things we say. I have a book called "Why Do We Say It?", and while I dislike its lack of sources and some of its more... "far-fetched" explanations, it's often a good jumping-off point for learning how words and phrases come about.
Also, http://www.etymonline.com/ , the online etymology dictionary is very interesting, though not as complete as I'd like.
I went upstairs to double check be fore commenting again & the expiring soon category is still there. I clicked through all of it. Here are a few pics of the expiring soon & coming soon categories as of today.
I've done a small amount of research into this, actually - it's something that the psychoacoustics community is currently pretty big on. It's been found that it is not related to a primate-based warning call, but the true root of the reaction to these sounds is in fact still unknown.
I've always understood it as such, but I can't find anything too definitive with a quick google search. The best source I could find was this entry on thefreedictionary.com
Under that definition, SoCo would still count as hard liquor as it is a distilled alcohol, it just has other flavorings added to the distilled liquor.

As for safety simply throwing up the increase in kinetic energy (its a 120% increase btw) isn't useful though it may be impressive. After all there is infinitely more kinetic energy going 25mph that 0mph.
Think about downloading this Google Chrome addon . If you're anything like me, i come across words often that i'm not familliar with. Ctrl+double left click gives the definition and link to more sources.
Well I really can't speak for ALL Little Caesars, but at the one I worked at :
I could go on and on. I've worked at several stores, and it's mostly the same stuff. Little Caesars would be great if they followed their own guidelines. I don't go there to eat anymore, I'd rather pay $5 more for a better pizza from Pizza Hut.
Sometimes I'll get little 5 minute bursts of energy/motivation and then go back to horribly fatigued. I've had MDD my whole life and today I start TMS. Wish me luck, I need this!
That's an interesting thought but there would have to be some insane future surveillance state to accomplish it I think. Wikipedia can be downloaded in its entirety and its only 14GB compressed or 58GB uncompressed and has already been downloaded by probably tens or hundreds of thousands of people. There are thumb drives the world over with human history safely stored. I feel like this is a shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted situation.
So I think it's impossible in anything less than a future where society is literally George Orwell's 1984 where data wouldn't matter because people would be afraid and brainwashed.
I often mockingly say "feb-roo-rar-ee" -- but seriously, I try not to say "feb-yoo-ary" (which is only "correctly" silent as its a colloquialism, but really, the etymology of the word states that the first r really ought be pronounced.)
Generally, using a GPS while driving counts as distracted driving. Depending on the state, there can also be issues with how you mount your GPS/phone as well.
My car doesn't have a built-in GPS, but I can't do anything with the Bluetooth phonebook or adjust anything but the volume, input and station on the radio if the car's in motion. Neither can a passenger...
My gf is a natural redhead, but she jokes that she's a daywalker, definition #2, since she can tan a little. We were in Hawaii and she was fine as long as she re-applied SPF 50 every 45-60 minutes.
In which case, polish your language and writing skills and write some good fan-fiction (http://www.fanfiction.net/). Places like Orion's Arm actually need talented people like you (http://www.orionsarm.com/) You may be disadvantaged to do the job of a Wall Street trader or a traffic cop or a sportsman, but it makes you exceptionally gifted as a writer and a futurist. Follow blogs like Wired, Geek.com, Scienceblogs, Discover magazine, etc. Study astronomy. By the end of one year, you'll be able to churn out Star Trek quality stories daily. Man! You're gifted. Just differently. You have to learn to control it just a bit. I'm not cheering you up - Paranoid guys are great at certain types of security jobs. Blind people are awesome listeners. Oskar Pistorius and Aimee Mullins are making big money out of their handicaps. Just need to add some clever trick to your situation and you can become a success. Find that clever trick, its not that hard.
What you need in any plot in fiction is surprise, a new concept, a look at normal society from an alien view point, logical extrapolation from a set of assumptions, and some good lines. You have the energy and imagination to sustain the flow of ideas. You just need to control the direction at each point.
And if you're not familiar with Star Trek, you're missing life totally :) Make sure to see Star Trek The Original Series and Star Trek Voyager. Star Wars is for well-meaning teens. Star Trek is for thinkers.
The world of scifi writing has no real limits :)

I was involved in a start up similar to www.xydo.com. We've pivoted a few times and things have been going a little slow for everyone due to exam papers and what not, but today, TechCrunch announced that XYDO raised $1.25m in funding.
How's that for a million dollar idea? D:
This should help. :) I couldn't remember any of them either and I really can't imagine it being any different.
EDIT: This look back on FB designs is a bit more comprehensive
It's never too late to learn! Mint is an awesome (totally verified) app for your phone/computer to give you an idea of where all that money is going. I've been very lucky and don't really have financial issues, but I can equate it to the calorie counting app I use to show you how much food you're eating every day. Give it a try for a few weeks and see if it opens your eyes to spending habits you weren't aware you had. I'm a huge fan of it!
Yes.
I will put up with the cold from having my window open to listen to the rain.
Hell, one night recently I went to RainyMood on my phone and put it by my window to get some artificial rain on the go. It worked like a charm.
Late to the party, but the program Fences gets rid of the icons if you double click and then brings them back with a double click. It's one of my favorite programs.
It's a feature of Windows 7. Google "windows 7 rss wallpaper", there are plenty of how-to guides.
Then find yourself a suitable RSS feed. Flickr is a good source for photography. Personally I like more abstract vector art for desktops, here's what I use:
