I type things in notepad until I fill up the page, just before needing to scroll, or half a page. Then I Ctrl+X everything I just wrote with the exception of the last 2-3 sentences, Ctrl+V into an MS Word doc, and go back to continue the story.
For some reason, it's easier for me to write when there's less words to look at. No compulsion to edit or re-read. No visual distractions. Nothing but my brain's compulsion to increase entropy and forced commitment because the only thing I can do is move forward. It's weird how many times this has gotten me out of slumps. I think it might have something to do with beginnings being a lot easier to write than middles and ends, or the fact I grew up writing in notebooks and it simulates page-turns.
Otherwise, I highly recommend this Rain Sounds app. You can even choose your rain types (ocean storm, roof tiles, pond, fire, etc.) and background effects (harp, birds, piano, etc.).
Have you tried rainstorm audio? I've used YouTube videos, but currently I have an app with a couple different rain tracks and a sleep timer. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.metapps.watersounds
Just download a rain/weather sound app on your phone and play it out loud. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.metapps.watersounds&hl=en

I listen to an app on my phone that plays the sound of rain. You can decide the intensity of the rain, the sound of what it falls on (water, leaves, roof, etc), and any incidental noises (waves, wind, birds, etc.). I sleep like a rock because of it.

Rain Sounds, on Android. There are many different apps, but this is the best I've found. I highly recommend "Rain on Leaves". I set it to loop for 2 hours but I rarely need that long.
It's called Rain Sounds. Here is a link to it on Google Play store
I use an app on my phone that has a timer. Set it for one hour, and it's very rare that I stay awake that long.

This doesn't have white noise, but I use Light Rain in the RainSounds app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.metapps.watersounds
Im also a beginner, but I've found rain sounds to be a good midway point between guided meditation and silence.
I use rain sounds. Provides a kind of anchor without words.
You need something to counter it.
White Noise is good.
Something like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.metapps.watersounds&hl=en might also help
I find Rain Sounds to be a great assistant - helps me meditate, concentrate, etc.
For helping you sleep you may want to try an Android app similar to rainymood.com:

In general (not really helpful for sleeping) for me the best free Android games: Vainglory, Hearthstone, Clash Royale, Fallout Shelter. As for puzzles, too many to list, but two of my personal favorites: Lazors and Pushing Machine.
If you by any chance decide to spend money, I recommend you the game Monument Valley . It's the winner of multiple awards. A clever little puzzle game with a bit of story and beautiful art / sound.
