This is the best guide to runes currently on the market. It's written by a Heathen (Norse polytheist) priestess and witch who specializes in rune work. Even some of the more conservative Heathens who won't variate from the lore recommend it. The book is both a guide to divination and rune magic all in one.
It's a talisman for business success. It's from the Key of Solomon, though I don't recall seeing it in either the Greater or Lesser versions. I could be wrong, though.

What's yours made of?
Lmfao @ your "whole book" comment!
The ACTUAL foundational work for the Qabalah is called the Zohar. If you ever find yourself with a few hours to kill, it's only about 22 volumes and each volume is around 1500 pages long. Here's a link if you wanna buy yourself a collection on Amazon.

Now THAT'S a whole book!
It's a variant of one of the "Lightning Glyphs of Jupiter", developed by Jason Miller of Strategic Sorcery, which he popularized in his Financial Sorcery book. This specific glyph is for money-drawing. I can't tell what the squiggle is that leads into the circle and is coming out of the upper left part of it, but the general glyph is unmistakable.
I would say that it was widely used. I’m reading through Owen Davies’ Grimoires: A History of Magic Books right now and he has a whole section dedicated to the SATOR square. It shows up in grimoires all throughout the Middle Ages from the Arab world to Spain and continues to appear all the way up until the 18th century. You’re correct that no one now has any idea why it was so important but it’s clear from the historical record that it was important enough that magicians kept spreading it about. No one thought to write down, however, why the SATOR square exists, what it means, or how to use it so it exists an enigmatic and intriguing magickal artifact, much like these items from Pompeii.
There is plenty of Magick that requires no belief, however what the New Thought movement describes in its ideas regarding belief and changing your thoughts, is essentially the distilled essentials of practising Magick without any of the bells and whistles. When one asks for good books for a beginner magician while the obvious ones come to mind I'd probably be inclined to throw in the likes of Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich, or any of Neville Goddard's books.
I think the primary goal with a lot of works is to give people what they need, nothing more, nothing less. Magick has its bells and whistles, its robes and incenses, its chanting and vibration - all to go deeper and further into introspection, working on the self, understanding and working with the subconscious and the archetypes within it.
However, the average person who comes to Magick just wants to be healthier, wealthier, happier, smarter, and so the likes of the New Thought authors condensed it down to the parts you need to achieve something, which comes down to a definitive purpose/idea, and then either unshakeable faith or the desire to pursue it to its end regardless of what happens.
I think the average magician would learn a lot from picking up some of Napoleon Hill or Neville Goddard or even Bob Proctor's works - and I think the average person applying the likes of "The Secret" or the "Law of Attraction" would benefit a lot from exploring it deeper and learning about the more esoteric side of their beliefs.
In fact, that last sentence gave me a much better way to sum of the difference between the two.
"The Secret", "The Law of Attraction", "New Thought" etc = Exoteric Magick, i.e. the Magick that is before, understood, and known about by the masses.
Regular Magick is esoteric Magick, the Magick where some kind of learning is required to truly understand it.
Still both Magick though ;)
As someone who studies the occult from a historical perspective now and then; and how it plays a strong role Western society today I do greatly appreciate the OPSEC guidelines you have set forth.
I wanted to add on this helpful link:
I don't think so.
I took an online class based on this book and it has a good theory in it. It's been a few years but, IIRC, Harari says that the followers of monotheistic religions are almost required to suppress or eliminate other religions and their deities. If your god is the only true god, all other gods must be false gods or your entire religion is false. Nobody likes their religion being called a false religion, especially when they're deeply emotionally invested in the religion.
Basically, IMO, calling pagan gods "demons" is the result of a smear campaign against those gods and religions tied to them by monotheistic religions. Polytheistic/pagan religions are much older than monotheistic religions, but one of the results of this drive to prove that YHWH is the one "true god" is that some of the other deities became "demons". And the Bible, of course, has to reflect this bias.
Yes, you have some people who believe in monotheistic religions and are more secular. But this smear campaign was run by the church and people who were/are deeply religious and fundamentalist.
I'm not being facetious, but am actually recommending How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. If you have an occult mindset you will immediately hear New Thought occultism dripping out of it. This book was very popular with Charles Manson and Billy Graham, possibly the two best persuaders in modern record. The book is public domain so you can read or listen to it practically anywhere online. It's old timey, but still works.
No worries! People use imgur because it works nice with the popular reddit enhancement suite and because it was originally developed by a redditor for reddit, but no one will be perturbed if you link to a source directly.
Since we're passing out information... Here is a link to one man's huge collection of rare & out-of-print books, most of which is occult, hermetic, edge-science, mystical-- seriously all kinds of things-- in nature. Painstakingly photographed so all is very easily accessible.
Hope it's useful for someone; I've been enjoying the heck out of it for years ;)
The Field of Parapsychology is what you're looking for.
You can looked into Dean Radin's work, um but full disclosure there's also plenty of polemics written about him for having such audacity. His books is called "real magic".
It's important to understand the study of Parapsychological phenomena is woefully underfunded and those who attempt to study such things often find their careers under attack.
Outside of that you won't find much besides some CIA goof ballness or maybe an occasional study here or there.

**PERSONAL OPINION INCOMING**
IF you're wondering why, well the answer is simple "Dead universe Materialist Philosophy" is the dominant culture right now. People who want to study this stuff in a laboratory setting aren't enabled to do so and when they find private funding for such research it often comes at the high cost of their career.
Coincidence to me you made this thread. I have been with an otherworldly being for nearly 2 years without really knowing what it is. Never really considered faeries because I saw them in the romanticize popular Disney way.
Yesterday I found the book Faeries: Deluxe Collector's Edition. (It is a classic in new edition.) I have only read a little, but I instantly understood, trough the text and pictures, how much more nuance there is to them compared with the popular depiction (Victorian version). Now I almost dare to say I am certain it is a faerie I am with.
My advice would be to try to understand the pre-Victorian faeries, (unless you are exactly after the glittering innocent modern depiction).
An old documentary I am watching right now: The Fairy Faith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lguShTgS8GM
You will read much about going out in nature and making offerings etc. In my case, it contacted me in my home, or showed up, once I started to open my third eye. Opening the third eye really was not that fancy. I just started to assume my imagination was real and not controlled by me, and I had a real interrest in trying it (unlike the times I had consciously tried to "open the third eye".) It was like letting imaginary associations run freely, and I assumed they represented a force outside me. (Then we can question how much it was opened, but at least enough for me to spend the next 2 years with the being and trying to deepen it). If you learn about faeries and then open your third eye, then maybe you can contact them.
Because most occultists buy into the idea of The Secret. When I do a spell I take action I don't sit around and wait for shit to happen.
It's easy to cast a spell and meditate (no real action needed, sit at home, meditate for a hour and cast a spell) but taking chances that's too much for most of us.
I cast a spell to get more business opportunities but instead of sitting around I went out and talked to people and read up on events and it's like the world changed to fulfill my spell.
EDIT: Like the people who read "Think and Grow Rich" who complain that the book didn't work for them... did you follow all the steps? Including specialists knowledge and taking action? Probably not.
Yeah I’ve read some Frater Acher I think? Guy’s ball deep into Saturn, it’s very impressive, think I have PTSD just by his journal 😂. Just sayin it’s way less forgiving than the others. In Seven Spheres, he said to treat the angels of Saturn like loaded weapons.
If that’s your thing, by all means, do you. People, generally speaking, should be careful and be advised this is not for beginners. And in any case everybody will necessarily need to deal with it at one time or another, so you know, good for you.
Edit: It’s this one: https://www.amazon.fr/Holy-Daimon-Frater-Acher/dp/1912316080/ref=nodl_
Reading material doesn't cause harm. Your thoughts and beliefs about it, however, may do so.
If you are coming from a Christian paradigm, you probably should not jump into occult traditions that Christians have been indoctrinated against. If symbols and images used are too different from what you are comfortable with, you won't be able to accept them, and your doubt and fear will prevent you from developing.
You can begin your studies, however, with occult teaching that is rooted in Christian symbology. For an absolute beginner, I would recommend 'Discover the Power Within You' by Eric Butterworth. It gives an occult interpretation of Jesus teaching, in a way that is very approachable for beginners especially from Christian backgrounds.
Though I can not speak for the validity of this practice, nor would I recommend it in lieu of an actual tangible deck that you work with and grow with- for the purpose you can try using a standard deck of playing cards.
happy reading!
This would be the scholar, his name is kevin klien. He wrote a book that includes Dee's personal journals. Here's his book here: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Mystical-Records-John-Conversations/dp/0738752584
Thus Spake Zarathustra, The Art of War, the Alchemist, Raja Yoga, the Rigveda.
The Rigveda and the Book of Thoth are as old as it gets, to my knowledge. Don't know much about Sumerian literature.
With the Bible i'd suggest the old testament over the new. Also, the Book of Creation and the Book of Enoch, which for some reason aren't part of the Bible itself.
Also, Isaac Newton's stuff.
I studied a Japanese martial art for some years that had a significant symbolic/spiritual component (including some Bushido), and to this day I find greater benefits from Zen than any other practice or philosophy. You might be able to find some similar concepts from the Greek Stoics, but I am not an expert on them.
Zen has no interest in what one might call magic or "supernatural" experience. Some Zen schools even use the expression "Kill the Buddha!" The idea being that we do not benefit from constantly referencing this archetype of what Enlightenment is supposed to look like, that this superhuman imagery is limiting and deceptive.
However, Shinto is rich with spiritual principles very familiar to occultists the world over, and when Buddhism took root in Japan, the culture ended up combining the two in varying degrees. A similar thing seems to have happened everywhere Buddhism spread, with pre-existing animist/pagan systems absorbing the new paradigm. This dynamic has many parallels in the West with the Hellenistic period and the later spread of Christianity, but with nowhere near the amount of violent repression that Christianity used.
I can't recommend Zen if you're looking for the kinds of results Western occultism promises. On the other hand, if you want a simple, non-dogmatic, non-dualistic means of un-cluttering the mind and controlling your emotions, you'll get exactly that. This certainly has applications in your occult studies, albeit in a more general sense.
I highly recommend Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind for a solid introduction.
There is only one absolutely reliable way to decide: try it. Do it. At a certain point study without practice will only confuse and complicate. Pick a source you like and see what happens. If it doesn't work for you, try something else
To that end I always recommend this pamphlet to beginners. All practice, hardly any theory, to get you started. https://the-eye.eu/public/Books/Ocult/Pop%20Magic%20by%20Grant%20Morrison.pdf
I recommend this pamphlet. It's all practice and almost no theory. You can dive in and get started doing occultism with whatever theoretical model you like and have researched https://the-eye.eu/public/Books/Ocult/Pop%20Magic%20by%20Grant%20Morrison.pdf
Then the theory can come later, informed by your experiences. Too many people do it the other way around
As the book states it will come to those who are ready for it, before then it will just sound like ramblings and rubbish.
I also posted the ebook couple of weeks ago. As far as audio books go this has been my favorite version, the voice is charismatic. Never seen this version on YouTube before, I usualy went here https://librivox.org/the-kybalion-by-the-three-initiates/
It took three major events before I was truly invested.
First, as a teenager, I read RAW's The Illuminatus Trilogy, and came across a sentence near the end of the book that said, essentially, that the book was reshaping my perceptions of reality and my life in ways I would not understand until much time had passed. That sentence, and in general the book itself, crawled inside my head and laid its eggs. Those eggs incubated and eventually hatched.
Second, I grew up in an extremely conservative, religious household where various books, movies, and music pieces were proscribed. I spent much of my youth tracking down and watching, reading, or listening to that forbidden material - stuff like The Tao Te Ching (perhaps one of the greatest magickal texts ever written) and even Crowley and Lavey, and eventually Nietzsche, Plato, and lots of psychology texts (Adler, and Beck, who were preaching magick even if they called it CBT) etc. No single text I read ever gave me any of the answers I was hoping to find, but there were pieces of truth and fragments of illumination in all of them and so I eventually came to see belief itself as a tool.
Finally, after lots of research, and a brief membership in a local order, (which just felt like church all over again but with different masks and costumes), I read Alan Moore's Fossil Angels ( http://www.4shared.com/office/_9ijru5V/FOSSIL_ANGELS.html) and that was the end of formal practice for me.
These days, whatever it is I practice probably looks a lot more like storytelling and art and classical rhetoric and teaching than ritual magick. Probably, the chaos school would claim me, if I cared to reach out to them. But I think real magick is the kind you make for yourself, unattached to any tradition or authority, and has far more to do with persuasive semantics, human psychology, and a desire to find patterns in the noise, than any structured practice. Whatever label I use, for me it works, and that's what matters.
Oh, people. Let's get real here. Sometimes you need to fight back.
So. Yeah, sure. There are plenty of curses you can use. Personally, I'd first bind the person/s so they will cause no more harm. Bindings are usually very effective. I generally use poppets and black cords for this. Simple and straightforward.
Now, if things get worse and you actually want to get into curses, I'd suggest a curse tablet. There are plenty of websites that can guide you but being a fan of The Digital Ambler I suggest you check that one out. I also suggest you read Magika Hiera by Faraone. It's an academic book but it does explain the basics on tablets, it has some examples of real ancient items, and it might help you understand the concept behind them. It actually has a whole chapter on tablets related to judicial stuff. You can also check this article in Academia.edu that has some history and instructions on how to construct one.
Don't be scared of curses. They are the magical equivalent of punching back when you're taking a beatdown.
What are you looking to find out? Most likely the information you are looking for is in the Oistar Guide, which can be found on scribd or on the dkmu.org site. I have a hard time linking to things on this mobile phone, but here is a link. https://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/149285670
If it doesn't work, try searching my username, it should pop up right away.
Maya Deren was a surrealist filmmaker and occultist. So was Curtis Harrington. "The Wormwood Star" in particular fits what your looking for. Stan Brakhage made surreal films with occult themes. Derek Jarman made surreal occult films. He's a big one. Pretty sure he was into Crowley. Elias Merhige's "Begotten" is a surreal occult classic.
You already mentioned Jodorowsky, Anger and Lynch.
"The Color of Pomegranates" is very Jodorowsk-ian.
Liam Gavin's "A Dark Song" is a masterpiece in my opinion. It's all about the Abramelin ritual.
I'm not a fan of Arronofsky's "Mother!" but it fits the bill to a degree. It's certainly a riff on Jodorowsky.
Louise Malle's "Black Moon" is certainly trippy and has occult undertones.
Guy Maddin makes surreal films that sometimes delve into the occult similar to Jan Svankmajer who was previously mentioned.
Zulawki's "On the Silver Globe" fits your criteria perfectly.
Makavejev's "Sweet Movie" might have some occult undertones. Certainly is surreal.
Carmelo Bene is basically in the same league as Jodorowsky and Anger.
"Birds, Orphans and Fools" is also definitely within the criteria.
Just check out this link - https://mubi.com/lists/host-and-blood
And this one - https://mubi.com/lists/the-vision-and-the-voice-the-cinema-of-the-occult
*edit - I would even add "The Neon Demon"
Why because A) it's surreal and B) there are some very heavy occult things going on here that the initiated can appreciate.
Alan Moore's Promethea issue #12. I'm not saying its perfect, but it might be a nice addition to thinking through the narrative.
EDIT: Additionally, I've always found the story Alejandro Jodorowsky paints through the Major Arcana to be similarly inspiring.
You’re welcome!
Most manifestation are subtle, in fact you can easily tell who’s pulling your leg because their accounts are always over the top. Don’t expect or go chasing physical manifestation, it’s rare, difficult, and most of all completely unnecessary.
What is useful is sharpening and trusting your sense of the subtle. Use your imagination as if it was perception.
A really good book I like to recommend is https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Alchemist-Guide-Modern-Magician/dp/1590306872
It’s mostly not about alchemy at all, but about spirit work. It may be cheaper on iBooks if you have an Apple phone.
Again, Chapman claims are similar to Ingram claims (because they were directly inspired by him):
Enlightenment exist, it is a permanent change in the brain that leads to perception of the absolute, it can be achieved by working diligently at some simple techniques. The way that this brain change manifest follows a certain progression that is probably universal and can be found to be roughly the same in all 'big' traditions (buddhism, alchemy, thelema, etc).
Also, you cannot talk your way to enlightenment or explain easily its effect. It's like explaining red to a blind man. What you can explain easily is the practice you need to do and the probable results you will get leading to it. That all that is asked, not belief in the end result, but actual, skeptical practice. The end result is not some vague, wordy insight, but an unmistakable change in perception accompanied by undeniable phenomenons.
The full roadmap and practice are available for free online in Ingram book, Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha, and it's a damn good book: http://integrateddaniel.info/book/

Hey!
I would love to be able to draw exactly in that 70's style because i really love it, but if i try hard enough i think i can get close to it.
Anyway, here's what i do:
This are Science Fiction illustrations:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/12299479/CONCEPT-ART-SCIENCE-FICTION
EDIT: This one is probably the closest i have found in that 70's style:
Thats it, let me know if youre interested!
Read <em>The Morning of the Magicians</em> by Pauwels and Bergier if you want to learn more about the Nazi-occult connection.
And if you don't mind hearing a personal anecdote, a number of years ago, I met a man from either Germany or Austria (I do not remember, as it's been years), and he mentioned to me that his (spiritual) teacher had been roommates with Hitler when they were both young men (around college-age).
He said that one day, Hitler called his teacher over and said, "Look what I can do." Then, Hitler lit the gas stove, and held his hand in the flame for over a minute, then removed it and had no signs of burning.
I'm sure it's probably some parlor trick, and someone here might even be able to explain how it works, but if the story is true, it suggests Hitler was interested in the occult or magic even from a very young age.
It's seal #22 in "The Black Pullet." Here's what the book says about this seal (which is supposed to be used with an accompanying ring, by the way):
"The talisman and the ring (Figure No. 22) will serve you to recognize what the infernal powers wish to undertake, and you can abort all their projects by placing the talisman on your chest and the ring on the first joint of the little finger of the left hand. You pronounce these words: Actatos, Catipta, Bejouran, Itapan, Marnutus."
It also says that the talisman is supposed to be made of "red satin, embroidered in the middle with gold, the border with silver, and the signs in black and white silk."
In the 2000 Weiser edition it's on pages 56 & 57. The talisman material instructions are on page 58.
I noticed that someone has made the talisman and accompanying ring and has them for sale on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Black-Pullet-Ring-Talisman-Set/dp/B01FLEQE5O
I'm on the same quest you are on (seeking the sources of such materials) I won't try and drum my interpretation of the following information but I believe the following books will aid in your quest brother or sister;
* Sefer Yetzirah - this book is accredited to either Abraham himself or a disciple and within it the author/translator explains a lot of occult and esoteric knowledge related to ancient Hebrew magic
* The "Shem HaMephorash" which is a teaching of the 72 names of God which ultimately lends names to a large number of spiritual beings (Angels and Demons)
* Techniques of Graeco-Egyptian Magic
I believe the 2nd book will be more up your alley with the 3rd book being a bit more in line with tracing origins as Dr. Skinner does a solid job linking commonalities and sources
Ok all BS aside. Magic is a skill you need to learn and practice. Start with protection, you’ll need it.
Find a copy of this: https://www.amazon.com/Llewellyn-Practical-Psychic-Self-Defense-Llewelyn/dp/0875421903
It’s cheap, it’s from the 80s-90s so it’s a bit cheesy. But it’s easy to read and it’s basically a for dummies guide which includes visualization, meditation and practice exercises.
It a great foundation for building all the skills you’ll need and it will help keep you protected from day 1.
Wattles' book is not too bad but the content was polished up nicely by the generation 2.0 author Napoleon Hill.
That is the free online archive.org version. Here is the amazon page.
Occult pursuits are not necessarily contra material pursuits, but they are mostly orthogonal. In some places Hill's book seems like a good recipe for giving yourself an obsessive compulsive disorder. Anecdotally, there is no lack of unhappiness amongst the most (materially) successful people I know.
FUN FACT: my older brother had a copy of this book on his bookshelf when we were younger, that was pretty well marked up - highlights, post-it notes, he really spent some time with it. I'm not sure why exactly, but I suspect that he thought of it as "oppo research," because we were raised VERY Southern Baptist, and it sat on his shelf right next to this Tipper Gore gem.
I can't say that this book really played a significant role in my later interest in the occult, but as a 7 or 8 year old boy whose favorite hobby was sneaking into his older brother's room and nosing through his shit, I certainly found it a fascinating artifact. My older brother, on the other hand, went on to get a PhD from a Southern Baptist seminary, and teaches online classes using Ken Ham works for his textbooks. So, you know, he's got that going for him, which is...let's say "nice."
> I've done a few sigils and banishings over the last couple months, mainly for the purpose of self-resilience.
Good job, you've certainly made better decisions than I have during that point in my magickal development.
> What techniques should I move to next?
I recommend studying mindfulness and insight meditation to strengthen your will and develop your senses. Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha is a solid foundation.
> I've read some information on invoking/evoking... How much information does one need on their chosen figure?
Gather as much information as you could possibly gather. So much that you can feel their presence at the thought of them.
> These entities are thoughtforms, yes? Does that mean using my personal idea of the being is equivalent to doing scholarly research and summoning their 'official' form?
Of course they are. And of course it does, but you are missing the real question:
> Does that mean they are all just in my head, or do they have an existence all their own?
That's something you'll have to find out yourself, though.
Good luck.
I am the one who posted that link, as well as the person who set up the category structure on WP. I mostly work in Wikipedia's philosophy articles. You may be interested to know that this organization is based on Pirsig's metaphysics of value, in which he spells out these distinctions. It's called a "Pirsigean ontology." In Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, he puts forward the physical, biological, social, and intellectual levels of existence (in that order). I can't really support any belief in the occult, however there are all kind of interpretations out there. I hope you find this interesting and explore it further.
Hello community!
I've been studying the occult for a couple of months now and I really like and enjoy the process of visualizing different types of energy for different purposes: healing, talismans, sigils, etc. The problem is that I'm not very good with the process of visualizing.
I've made an Augmented Reality application for the smarphone to help me to visualize the energy. I was kind of skeptical about it, but it turned out that it really works for me. I can really FEEL the energy while i'm seeing it wihting the app.
I've just upload it to the Android Playstore and I hope it to be usefull for anyone else. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Yes! James M. Pryse's The Apocalypse unsealed : being an esoteric interpretation of the initiation of Iôannês (Apokalypsis Iōannou) commonly called the Revelation of (St.) John : with a new translation is just what you're looking for.
>So when you say he falls in line with a Buddhist ideaology, is that to also say that he has a sort of pantheistic view a la Alan Watts? In other words, "I'm God because I'm everything. The difference between me and the tree and the supernova is superficial?"
Neither Buddhism nor Evola were pantheists, for pantheism equates the cosmos (space and time) with the Divine but does not account for that which transcends space and time, and when that is also accounted for you get panentheism.
To better understand Evola's metaphysics, give Plotinus and Vedanta a basic study. While neither an easy read nor overly difficult, if you read his pamphlet Taoism: The Magic, the Mysticism you can gain an understanding of the profundities of Daoism, which Evola highly respected and in many ways identified with (the opening quote to his Revolt Agains the Modern World is from the Daodejing for example.) Here it is on Scribd:

Hey, I noticed most of these are from Librivox, which is a fantastic site. I've got a bunch of Lovecraft and Balzac from them, but I never really thought to look for occult texts. If you go to Librivox's main site, you can just download the file and it'll save you a step with the YouTube audio conversion.
Gordon White : Rune Soup that’s a decent podcast
The Duncan Trussell family hour
Actually I found this list too ;

What I tend to do is download YouTube videos discussing magick, convert to mp3 and put them on my iPod
Charles Stross' <em>Laundry</em> series
Lovecraft wrote short stories, so just grab a copy of the <em>collected works</em>.

IMO it's simply saying those who have their shit together are the ones who are in control on this plane of existence... or those who can control themselves control their world.
This is a much less cryptic way of dividing mental planes of control: https://www.quora.com/Overcoming-Procrastination-1/How-do-I-get-over-my-bad-habit-of-procrastination/answer/Oliver-Emberton
Just my thoughts at least. I've read the kybalion pretty early in my "career" as an occultist and this is what I think after being through the rounds. Back in the day I thought much differently about the passages.
I would suggest Firefox over Chromium: Google as a company is not to be trusted, Chromium is open source but still based on Chrome.
NoScript is an invaluable extension that will block all scripts, very useful too.
Once again, I can't say it enough, do not trust Google. Use DuckDuckGo instead if you need to search, lock down your privacy settings on Google and take great care with what you connect to it.
Yeah, diabetic here. Just pick up a blood sugar test kit that comes with a lancet pen. Since you don't care about the actual monitor, so just go to Walmart - they have kits for like $10. Or you can buy just a lancet pen - they look like this: https://www.amazon.com/AUVON-Lancets-Lancing-Monitoring-Glucose/dp/B07P4612JM That's a couple bucks cheaper AND it gets you like, 100 replacement lancets, instead of the meager 3-5 they include in a monitor test kit.
They're nearly painless, as long as you use a new lancet every time. If you reuse lancets (you aren't supposed to, but if you sterilize it with alcohol, you can get a couple uses from each - I don't think I know any diabetics who actually change their lancet with every. single. test. Once a day, usually.), they will get duller after a few uses, and then it might hurt a little. But fresh lancet needles are so sharp and thin that they easily draw a few drops of blood without pain.
And of course, be safe, even if you reuse lancets (which again, you shouldn't, but it's not like you're gonna get picked up by the lancet police), never ever ever share a lancet with another person. Always change the lancet if someone else needs/wants to use your lancet pen, before and after they use it. Also, be sure to wash your hands and use an alcohol wipe to clean the actual spot the needle will go in, before you prick a finger.
It doesn't seem to be on Netflix, but it is on Amazon video.
Money itself is a form of magick. The occult principles of marketing are the means to most effectively attract it. The greatest sorcerer of money I can recommend is named Dan Kennedy. He revised an occult classic called Psycho cybernetics with the original author, Dan knows his shit. Napoleon Hill wrote the classic occult-money text called Think and Grow Rich, which includes occult principles such as sexual transmutation (sex magik). But Hill Was a shitty magician and spent most of his life broke. Though its still hailed as perhals THE all time wealth building classic, it can't hold up to many other modern works out there. Dan Kennedy's recent book No BS Wealth Attraction For the New Economy is the Think and Grow Rich for the current era. Full of dozens if not hundreds of ideas and principles designed to develop/increase/leverage one's money getting abilities many fold. Don't bother too much with occult rituals to bring you money until you understand marketing in depth. The other route is to study the occult principles of Prosperity Consciousness. The audio book of the same name, by Frederick Lehrman is a master work, full of many magical workings you can out to use for great affect. Lehrman's father was a high priest for the (dark) financial order of the Federal Reserve Bank, so he grew up with the magick from a young age. Fortunately he developed his own financial wizardry thats far superior to the brand practiced by his old man. Another great one in the prosperity consciousness realm is the Abundance Book by Johnathan Randolph Price. Some great money magik in there as well. Good luck to you and as the kids like to say "get money, get money."
Not in the traditional sense. That said I'm sure he's read the likes of Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich and applied similar principles in his life. Visualisation. Clear goals. Burning desire. All that jazz.
He's not the type to put on some robes and start chanting in Hebrew, but he's certainly made use of some of the same principles we use in our work.
I just had received the books this month and already the Power of Imagination and Angel Tech are a great read and still, they aren't yet finished. If somebody know others books amazing that are similaire, I would gladly ear your suggestions.
Try David Burns' book called "The Feeling Good Handbook" for a self-guided approach to depression, anxiety, addictions, and other issues. For Jungian analysis, I suggest that you contact your nearest Jung Institute, and ask if their clinic works on a sliding scale. Many therapists in private practice will also work on a sliding fee scale, so don't be afraid to make a lot of calls and ask a lot of questions. See also my Living Thelema segments on Psychotherapy and the Magical Path, and Cognitive Therapy for Magicians, which are linked elsewhere in this AMA.
I suggest that you try to make a habit. The Seinfeld method of creating a calendar and trying to do the best to not break the chain blends very well with this the type of discipline that occult practices generally requires. > > "He revealed a unique calendar system he uses to pressure himself to write. Here's how it works. > > He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker. > > He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. "After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain." > > "Don't break the chain," he said again for emphasis."

I did find a physical copy, found here, for $70. I have to say the HTML version is super-interesting. Thanks for introducing this.
> I'm going to be getting a translated copy of the Picatrix in the mail
Why wait? Greer/Warnock version. Ouroboros Press version. What can I say? I'm an enabler. ;)
>and begin practicing the spells in the Picatrix.
Be careful. Some items required are poisonous and/or illegal to possess. The ancient approach to magick it outlines is quite an eye opener compared with later centuries though.
or, if you're really hardcore... you can have your very own first edition copy!

The definitive (I think) critical edition of the Lemegeton (which includes the Goetia) is Joseph Peterson: https://www.librarything.com/work/327692
Also Skinner and Rankine produced a different edition from, I believe, different set of source materials and also contains extensive critical apparatus.

Neither of these would really be useful, probably for practical instruction of course; hopefully someone else can chime in on that point.
I didn't read Part II because you haven't posted it yet.
Lots of people use different words like spells, work, energy or whatever. This is not a sign of anything really. I can even accept the demon thing. She sounded legit up until she asked $2000, this seems a lot to me, but I live in Latin America so others might disagree, no idea really.
To tell you the truth I'm almost sure you are the one making everything happen, be it good or bad. You are influenced by this situations, but the one in control is you. The first encounter with her gave you hope (or whatever it is) and your situation started to get better. Then you started to doubt and everything started to fall apart.
You can quickly post Part II if you cheat reddit using this for the mail thing.
Kevin klien. Just linked OP to this https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Mystical-Records-John-Conversations/dp/0738752584
But I'm really excited to read louv's book as well because I'm a big ESOTERICA fan!
Sigils are very personal to the creator - But this looks like a modified simple sigil for the Archangel Gabriel - combined with a symbol for Sagittarius, the 3 crossed lines - symbol for elemental mercury/quicksilver or an alchemical symbol for life maybe? the U/anchor looking thing
Or possible plot it on http://wisdomsdoor.com/wb/hwb-sigil.php and see if that makes any sense :P
Iamblichus' Life of Pythagoras translated from the Greek by Thomas Taylor is also quite short and can be downloaded as 270p PDF from here.
It's also available from Amazon as a used paperback from as little as 12 bucks.
Thomas Taylor tells us in his introduction that the life of Pythagoras is "a specimen of the greatest perfection in virtue and wisdom, which can be obtained by man in the present state. Hence, it exhibits piety unadulterated with folly, moral virtue uncontaminated with vice, science unmingled with sophistry, dignity of mind and manners unaccompanied with pride, a sublime magnificence in theory, without any degradation in practice, and a vigour of intellect, which elevates its possessor to the vision of divinity, and thus deifies while it exalts."
That pretty much sums up MY definition of a Sage, and I hope it will meet your expectations too. It's a real gem of a book, one to keep and come back to time and time again.
u/begotten_not_made got in before me! I can't always post as often as I'd like on this sub so I'm glad he has suggested the very same books I was going to recommend to you. But here's a bit more detail.
Dion Fortune's Mystical Qabalah at 200 odd pages is good as far as it goes. The problem is that it goes too far for readers who know nothing about either occultism or mysticism and does not go far enough for those who do. It's a simplication of some very complex metaphysical and occult concepts which are a mixture of esoteric Judaism, Hermeticism (or what remained of it in the early centuries of the Christian era), Chaldean mysticism and Babylonian Demonolatry. Note that's 'demonolatry' not demonology, the two are not the same thing! Demonolatry is the classification and study of the superstitions surrounding demons whilst demonology is the worship of demons.
With that very condensed summary in mind, there are three classic books on the Qabbalah I'd recommend. These are. The Kabbalah: its Doctrines, Development, and Literature by Christian David Ginsburg, published by G Routledge & Sons, London, 1920 and The Kabbalah or the Religious Philosophy of the Hebrews by Adolphe Franck (translated by I. Sossnitz) 1926. This latter book is available to read online in HTML format at the Internet Sacred Text Archive.
Finally, Qabbalah: The Philosophical Writings of Solomon Ben Yehudah Ibn Gebirol, or Avicebron by Isaac Myer. This was first published in Philadelphia in 1888. Later reprinted by Samuel Weiser Inc, New York, 1970 (1st Ed.) & 1972 (2nd Ed). There are also paperback editions published by Elibron Classics in 2001, and Andesite Press 2017, both available from Amazon
Welcome Nath. Well, some Magickians believe in the supernatural but a lot of us don't. Pantheism is a pretty popular view among many occultists which is the view that the Universe and Nature are God. If God is Nature and there is nothing outside of Nature, and thus there also can't be anything super-natural. But one is not required as an occultist or Magickian to be religious or believe in the supernatural or be a pantheist. Although there probably aren't many atheists who practice Magick, one can technically be an atheist and practice Magick. Magick doesn't go against science, Magick is a science.
I've never heard of the book you mentioned, but looking on Amazon it seems to have a lot of positive reviews.
https://www.amazon.com/Good-Spell-Book-Magical-Practical/dp/0316488399
Why don't you try it?
No, gender has nothing to do with being able to practice Magick or not. Some people may be more talented than others though, but almost anyone, regardless of gender, can learn it.
The Occult field is very broad and consists of various sub-fields, and some of them are more female dominated and some are more male dominated. But unless you're talking about Dianic Wicca or something similar you almost always find all kinds of genders in all fields.
Just look around and see which of the various fields of the Occult and Magick you feel most attracted to.
Recommend this book:

I would also add that the "give up" sacrifice is fairly modern. Historically, it was a sharing thing most of the time, in most cultures. If you sacrificed some animal, you were likely going to get to eat it, especially with the community. There's also been a lot of ink shed on sacrifice vs offering, to be googled at your convenience.
The go-to would be a reputable lodge. That will depend on your location, your willingness to research lodges, and your willingness to travel.
If you're going to have a solo go at it, I would recommend getting this book on self-initiation:
https://www.amazon.com/Self-Initiation-Into-Golden-Dawn-Tradition/dp/1567181368/
Regardie's book is long and dense, and a great reference. It is *not*, however, intended to serve the solo practitioner, as the GD was never envisioned as a solitary system. The Cicero's did a great job of organizing the material for soloists, but it's a tough system to do on your own.
The Secret works by inducing an obsessive compulsive disorder into your brain. The best HOWTO is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. The movie is an interesting gateway for some but as a resource it is next to worthless.
Napoleon Hill was caught up in the late 19th - early 20th century spiritualist movement along with a good third of all of western civilization. This was above Harry-Potter-level popularity. So there is a scale difference if nothing else. There were a few months around 2006 - 2007 when I couldn't go anywhere that somebody did not bring up either the Secret or the Law of Attraction. I know a woman who is a PhD Psychologist Therapist who was pushing it non-stop and, if I had to bet, it would be that she knows absolutely nothing about magic. She only talked to me about it for sixty seconds to evaluate my apathy but I did figure out she had never heard of Napoleon Hill.
I'm not sure how to measure 'proficiency' in meditation, but I have been doing breath-focused meditation every day for the last year. I find that the states that can be entered via meditation and the concentration developed while practicing meditation are absolutely essential for most occult practices.
Daniel Ingram's book Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha is probably a better guide to meditation than Crowley, but Practical Vipassana Exercises (which Ingram recommends under the title Practical Insight Meditation, the print and PDF versions have different titles but the same content) is a great nuts-and-bolts guide to kickstarting your meditation practice.
Contrary to /u/cuai, I don't find that diet ~~is relevant at all~~ strongly determines your success (or failure) at meditation. In fact, I find digestion to be a useful secondary subject for meditation / observation after the breath. Nor do I think it is necessary to join a monastery and give up sex (as is implied in Practical Vipassana Exercises).
I got into occult studies via meditation. Meditation exercises the brain in a similar way to how working out at the gym exercises your body. You can go out and do athletic things without first learning how your body works and strengthening it, but you will accomplish far more if you refine your body at the gym. Similarly, you can probably do a lot of Magick without meditation. But if you develop a solid meditation practice, then certain Magickal things will present themselves to you.

That is gorgeous, arousing, and impressive--most impressive She makes look balancing a blade on your head pretty easy.
Just goes to show how diverse our practices can be! Not all of us are just wanking it in the corner to a piece of paper or a thoughtform! Now after watching that I'm uh, gonna go cast a sigil or three.... :P
The video not only reminds me of the diversity of worship or practice but the fact I'm a pale, white, kinda flabby guy who doesn't dance for normal reasons, ever, let alone occult reasons. It's out of my comfort zone--I don't "feel the beat" or rhythm or whatever, I don't want to dance. But I tip my hat to those of you who do, and it's beautiful to see.
>>The rest of us should take the next step and make the logical conclusion that the multiverse lives in Mind, and thus consciousness is primary to all other things.
If you haven't heard of him already, you might find Bernardo Kastrup very interesting.
http://www.bernardokastrup.com/
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/metaphysical-speculations
Bernardo comes from a hard science background, but rejects the materialist view of our world/existence. His ideas are somewhat akin to what you described, that we are individual localizations of a much larger meta-consciousness and that consciousness is primary and creates the material world.
What I find fascinating about Bernardo is that he is approaching all of this from a scientific viewpoint, completely open mindedly, but with utterly rigorous logic and yet his conclusions tie in with a good deal of what we would regard as occult.
You mentioned in another reply that you think reality may "break" at some point.
My thoughts wonder/wander in that direction too sometimes.
In particular I wonder where our journey of technological exponential growth in the 21st century with technologies like complete control over our genetic material with DNA editing & intelligence augmentation by fusing with A.I. will play into this all of this.
>I'd say it is safe to open the book,
I'd say so too, the contents are similar to DM Kraig's Modern Magick, with some poignant anecdotes about how he used those practices in prison.
He has an interview on the Sounds True podcast which is excellent. Based on that, I hope he writes a follow up book. High Magick is good, but very basic.
Everyone comes in contact with the Puckril in their own ways, such as loving thyself, a trance state, it being revealed by the witches relationship with a grand familiar (a spirit/deity that gives them), divination, or the waking-dream.
To this, this is a link to the familiar tag on tumblr where there are rituals (both old and modern alike) to do so. Seek and it shall be revealed, and then love yourself, as you two are one and the same. You the sentient mask, him/her as the wearer. It is a marriage of sorts.
You can always read them online for free at the following links:
Edit: Misread your post, and thought you were correcting me. Realized that we're on the same page, although it should be noted that the Latin manualis means "fitted to the hand" and serves as an adjective, not a noun. Manual, if I recall, didn't come into use until much later, and is borrowed from French.
the first thing everyone wants to do when they get "into" the occult is summon a demon. I blame supernatural.
Here is a long, discouraging wall of text (hint, if this is too much effort to read through, just imagine what instructions in a grimoire will do to you)

I'd still recommend
Wicca isn't that old and high magick is certainly one of its roots.
Mynoise has been my go-to for music and soundscapes for meditation, journeying and trance. (My rituals are almost always just pounding drums because I like the consistency of it!) Click “Index” to view all of the generators.
Mynoise has a lot of natural sounds, but there are also ambient and synthesized sounds. What I like about it is 1. Each generator is an infinite loop, and 2. You can open up several tabs to mix and match different sounds from multiple generators, and each generator has its own slider for each sound in the mix.
Maybe it’s not what you’re looking for, but I always want to recommend this site because I find it really impressive!
Great book. I have it on my computer at home. If you want to PM me your email I can send it to you tonight or tomorrow if no one beats me to it.
EDIT: Hurr it is
Banishing.
You're already noticing an increase in synchronicities, seems you are firmly on the path. 'Ask and it will be giveth' as one guy once said. The knowledge you need will come to you.
Try to influence reality, it will teach you a lot.
I'll post this one once again on how to do it, seeing that you don't have any money.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gpkpmsi6s9n8nva/QL-5HEapyeC.pdf
I agree with everything the others said also, good advice all around. Fear is a natural reaction to the unknown, what you are experiencing is normal. This is all certainly a bit mind blowing. You look like you already have the intellectual knowledge, nevertheless starting to experience it directly is another thing entirely.
I'm fairly certain that you will do extremely well, you're no doubt intelligent and show the proper attitude. Keep it up and keep us posted!
David Pecotic published a great paper a while back about Gurdjieffian themes in Groundhog Day: From Ouspensky's Hobby to 'Groundhog Day': The Production and Adaptation of 'Strange Life of Ivan Osokin'.
I always share this pamphlet as an accessible start to occult practice: https://the-eye.eu/public/Books/Ocult/Pop%20Magic%20by%20Grant%20Morrison.pdf
From here there are different places you can go. Do you want to learn the theory to make your own rituals, or use a complete system first without any theory?
There are too many variables to give you an accurate answer as to why your sigil seems to not be working.
Some possibilities: it is working, but not in the way you thought it would (i.e. Crime gets worse thus forcing the community to the actions that will eventually lead to the results you desire.
Perhaps the spirit that is operating in the area is stronger than your sigil.
Perhaps you did not properly cast the spell.
Perhaps you are simply not gifted with the ability to cast sigils.
This does make me think of the story of the time William S Burroughs used a version of his Cut-ups technique to curse and close down a coffee shop he disliked, in that it was an attempt to use magickal techniques to change a neighborhood. There is a very good essay about this here
I think you may want to try another technique.
Yeah this is dope. I think especially on reddit we need reminders about what exactly we're looking for on reddit...it's dopamine stimulation...we're pavlovian trained to seek that next hit of reward. I use the app called self control to block my internet for 6 or 12 hours at a time. http://selfcontrolapp.com/
It's probably not his original idea, but Alan Moore does an excellent job of discussing it in The Mindscape of Alan Moore. If I remember correctly, it centered around the idea that art and magic both originate in the human mind and alter reality. Or rather, that's where his argument starts.
Hello winniewilie.
Reading through your post the first question that comes to my mind is whether or not you truly need just protection. Perhaps attraction would be better as well? Maybe an amulet to ward off negative energy and a talisman to help amplify meeting your goals.
I think that you will find the below materials suitable: Talismans, Amulets and Magical Symbols - A short guide to creating, using and destroying talismans and amulets.
Now let's take a moment and speak on the mundane aspect of your situation. Often on your path, you will experience differences of opinions. You will encounter negative entities, energy vampires who seek to bring you down. An opposition is a clearcut fact of living in this reality.
What can you do as an occultist to tackle this challenge? Well creating amulets, talismans, charms, sigils and such is a great method. But also do not forget the universal truth of magick; you manifest your reality! A curse in itself does not have power over you, it is only when you give it power that these things begin to negatively affect you. Such is true for negative words, hate and overall terrible energy given off by others.
Do not allow yourself to be negatively influenced by these people. Their actions are meaningless. They have no power over you. YOU. HAVE. CONTROL. You will manifest the reality of your creation. You will achieve your goals. You will read these words and come out stronger, more resolved and powerful.
So Mote It Be.
I'd say any psychedelic can be used to amplify whatever one is setting out to do. They are refered to a as plant teachers for a reason, It's like turning on a reciever one just needs to learn to tune in to the frecuency that is broadcasting the info they desire. I don't have specific parameters to define occult, it's more of an energy or environment that I would move into combined with particular style of visual imagery loaded with symbolism, for examples check out Ersnt Fuch's earlier work. The cactus space feels very cloak and dagger/smoke and mirrors instead of the infinite fractal hyperspace of ayahuasca and its analogs. Also cactus experiences are much sublter and drawnout even at high doses, you need to meet it half way and can build over a period of hours, with high doses of tryptamines shit comes at you real fast, it can just come grab you an take you for a ride.
Alright, it seems you don't care to elaborate and nobody else has commented yet, so here goes...
Considering Crowley talks about the aeons in very large periods of time and much smaller periods of time as well as overlapping and makes the comment to Liber AL that "the Computation of Time is not here as There" in Equinox Vol. 1 VII, I don't think it's meant to be as much time-based as you seem to believe from your previous comments. The interpretation you prefer could very well be another way to look at it, which isn't necessarily at odds with Crowley's ideas.
The term "aeon" itself has several implications; in Gnosticism as a class of beings emanating from the Supreme Being, an age, vital force, life, an extremely long period of time, and eternity.
Putting this all together, it seems pretty obvious to me that Crowley is talking about not just time-based periods, but the "spirit of the age" and cycles within larger cycles, thus the nearly 30,000 year aeon vs the 2,000 year aeon and the much shorter possibility of a 100 year aeon. Isis, Osiris and Horus would therefore be something like archetypal references for the zeitgeist; timeless forces ruling the age depending on circumstances, which is why he says the New Aeon may last as little as 100 years, depending on how things go.
Aye, it took me a couple hours. Eventually I found a combination of imagemagick or maybe Ghostscript options that seemed to produce Lulu-compatible pdfs but I didn't write it down much to my dismay; I tried to use Lulu again and couldn't get it to accept the pdf at all.
Local printers as mentioned above are probably more reliable and what I'll try next.
https://www.amazon.com/Sigils-Power-Transformation-Magick-Control-ebook/dp/B01MU6NQL2/
Try this one. If you still don’t see results... Keep trying. Use first stuff that aims to make internal change, you should be able to notice results right away. You can start with the first one, enhance concentration.
Right on, that's definitely of portion of the symbols in the compendium. I think the blog matches up with what's in the English translation, but the translated book version has way more stuff. Here is the Amazon link, I had to dig to find it (the demons are afoot!). https://www.amazon.com/Compendium-Rarissimum-translation-Necromancy-Witchcraft-ebook/dp/B093TNN2JC/ref=zg_bs_158515011_f_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XWHHF6DGVKA4Z13PYEJQ
It's a full translation with some notes on the symbols and its free (on sale?) now but it's list price was $6.66, which makes me chortle.
As for CLM 849, yeah, I'd love to see that whole thing too. Kieckhefer is a beast, I'll have to check it out.
is, I think the most up-to-date; though some of the reviews on Amazon point out that there are uncorrected and newly introduced errors in this 7th edition.
This edition (the 6th I think):
https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Dawn-Teachings-Ceremonies-Llewellyns/dp/0875426638/ref=pd_sim_14_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AM0NAE0V1C2359V57JAQ
Is the one that was readily available for the longest time.
Maybe try out the Golden Bough or something, really can't help you. In my opinion, that guy you were just listening to is trash. Maybe try going after specific time periods or peoples. This is the very first result when typing in European Paganism into Amazon by the way.
