RedReader (Beta) is an open source, ad-free, app for Reddit. Created by Redditor /u/QuantumBadger over at /r/redreader
I've been using it for almost 2 years. I love it. The simple interface packed with a lot of features. Night Mode is perfect on this app. Check it out and see what you think!
Edit: Fixed Play Store link
Red Reader shows the flairs. It's free and open source. Personally my favourite way to view reddit on my phone.
I am not sure what definitions you guys are using, but I am seeing a few closed source apps on there that I wouldn't really call open in the proper sense. Telegram for example...
edit:
After looking into it further this doesn't make sense as all... You are listing a reddit client as alternative for google currents and flipboard? That is a bit of a stretch...
For me, Red Reader works exactly how I like to use Reddit on my phone, there's of course r/RedReader where it gets frequent updates, and it's open source
I use RedReader. It's open source, also available on play store
RedReader. It's on Google Play & F-Droid. It's the smallest Reddit app I've seen & completely open source. I recommend it if you find most Reddit apps overkill for what you need.
It'd be great if people would show OP (and others who also want to know) how to accomplish what they're looking for in those apps instead of just linking their favorite Reddit app.
REDREADER can do that with images and comments under Upper Right-hand corner Three-dot menu icon - > Settings - > Cache. From there you can specify how frequently you want the app to re-cache, how long to keep images, comments, thumbnails, and even upvotes, downvotes, read, etc. It doesn't seem to have a built in scheduler to cache posts automatically (that I could find).
On SYNC, you have the standard caching of images and how long you want to keep images cached. This particular option is in Settings - > Images - > then scroll all the way down to Advanced. There's also the option to cache comments, preload full images, preview images, thumbnails, and gifs under Data Options.
Semi-related, but while digging through the rest of the settings, I came across an option to disable ads, but was greyed out and untoggable even though I bought the pro version of the app, and also have Reddit gold/premium. WTF?
As for BOOST, I didn't find any such settings for doing what others claim it can do, so I guess it can only cache images and such normally like other apps.
REDDIT IS FUN (Golden Platinum) has the same limited post caching options as Boost does, unfortunately.
Alternatively, you can usually save images, gifs, and videos by either pressing the on screen buttons in the Reddit apps, or by long pressing on the media you want to download.
Hope that helps, cheers!
RedReader supports swipe voting or saving. Open source, no ads.
> Swipe posts and comments left and right to perform customizable actions, such as upvote/downvote, or save/hide.
Do you have an Android phone?
If so, get RedReader.
You can cache multiple front pages of subreddits like Askreddit and save for offline viewing.
Open up any subreddit and it will download and save all threads and comments on that subreddit. Probably best to do on wifi before you go away.
To be fair the changes are very minimal.
Nice app, i do like that i can tap a comment to close it by default now.
I have this and slide installed. This does notifications a bit quicker most of the time.

RedReader.
unter Bilder/Video "Inline image previews" auf "Never"
Unter Verhalten Haken bei "Zeige NSFW" und "Gelesene Beiträge ausblenden"
That's totally plausible. I'm seeing the same results as well.
Perhaps it's time to force Diode to use HTTPS all the time. I'm concerned that there might be users in environments where they can't connect via HTTPS, but I think I've put this off long enough.
I'll also give my standard spiel that Diode is not actively developed, so you may want to consider a more modern libre reddit client like Redreader. F-Droid and Google Play.
Yeah, I've been using RedReader for a while now.
I also like the fact that it can cache multiple versions.

Red Reader. Open source client I've been using for years. Its not feature rich, but I love it. Seems like no one ever mentions it.

I apologize that I am not addressing your question directly but to be honest the official Reddit app is probably one of the worst ones out there. My personal recommendation if you are on Android is Red Reader (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=en_US)
Red reader.
Open source reddit app.
Non of the minimalist crap.
It will sync video, pictures, gifs , comments everything for your offline pleasure.

Red Reader has been my go to since it was a beta (many years ago now). Free, open source, no ads, useful interface. I quite like it!

>Police with "us vs them" mentalities it's a plague in the system.
I agree. I'm not saying what should be, just what I see that is
>I use "Reddit is Fun".
I used to use that too in the past, but when I went FOSS I started using RedReader. I think it's solves almost 99% of the problems I've ever had on mobile, and works on nearly any device. You should check it out.
There are a few. Check out Relay, Slide, Sync or my favorite Redreader: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=en
It's open source and works well with images.
They are on the same network, my phone seems to be able to launch it in a web browser, but not in my reddit app, so it's probably an issue with the app (RedReader). My phone is a Motorola g4 plus on android 7.
I can load the link you provided on both my phone and pc.
Redreader caches the list of posts (and comments and images if you want), and when you enter the subreddit later it will show the date and time of the cached version.
You pay by watching and clicking on ads. It's not free.
This is a free app. No ads, tracking and you don't have to pay for it. As you can see by the screenshots you get what you pay for.
I use RedReader for Android, just for the fact that I can easily load up a lot of askreddit threads and go back to them even when I have no internet.
I've set it to the maximum cache time of 3 months.
It came in really handy recently when I went on holiday to south Wales, which has pretty bad phone signal in the more remote areas. Luckily for me I had been prepared for this and had loaded up a few threads every day for a couple of weeks in advance.
I use it almost exclusively for archiving interesting askreddit threads.
Androidra ajánlom a RedReader nevű programot.

RedReader looks similar
first of all, holy tracking URL.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
second of all, RedReader does support regular private messages, but not Reddit's instant messenger (i.e. chat).
RedReader is a really lightweight option for cheaper devices with low storage capacity. I use it because its cache configuration options and versatile customizability. The simple yet intuitive ui and simplicity over flashy UI design make it perfect for endless scrolling without filling up your device storage.
Over the past month or so, /u/QuantumBadger and I have been doing a lot of work to create a pleasant, accessible Android (and Chrome OS, and Windows Subsystem for Android) Reddit experience for screen reader users. It's now available on the Play Store!
The app is extremely customizable, here are a few suggested settings changes for accessibility:
By default, long pressing a post or comment will display a list of actions (voting, replying, etc.), and double-tapping a comment is equivalent to Dystopia's "collapse comment". I've filed an issue to add support for "collapse thread" via a TalkBack accessibility action.

The app is extremely customizable, here are a few suggested settings changes for accessibility: * Appearance: * "show comments button": untick for a cleaner swipe order on the front page (one swipe to move from post to post). * "show link buttons": untick to remove extra buttons to activate links at the end of comments containing them (links are focusable from the TalkBack LCM). * Accessibility: * "separate body text lines": should be on by default now, but if you've previously used the client, you'll probably want to enable this, else long comments will run off the screen and TalkBack will stop reading in the middle of them. * "use concise language when possible": similar to Dystopia's option of the same name.
I'm sure picking a client is a very personal thing, but I always include my favorite RedReader in these threads (and the developer is very responsive in r/RedReader)
As we are all dropping favourite reddit apps:
Redreader is free and open source, from fdroid or play store. It isn't perfect - doesn't show awards and a few other things, but it is simple, light and customisable.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
Yes, that was the idea. I am currently using Redreader and was expecting I could get some similar compact title-only UI, see https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
But obviously, Infinity tries to provide a different user experience. Nice work anyway.

RedReader
I initially tried the official Reddit (cr)app, and gave up on it as an unusable sick joke. Too much adspam and the can't rotate.
RedReader, free, open source, no ads, likes rotate.
Redreader:
floss, kezeli a galériákat, szavazás ugyanúgy nemmegy mint slideban. UI nagyon részletesen beállítható.
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.quantumbadger.redreader/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=en_US&gl=US
Για το κινητό https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=en&gl=US
είναι opensource
Like what xelaseer said, this is probably because you're using an outdated build for your browser.
I don't want to pressure you to upgrade your browser just to use Reddit, so unless you want to update your browser anyway I'd reccomend getting a decent Reddit client for Mobile. Personally, I prefer RedReader over the default Reddit mobile experience anyway.
It's available on both Google Play and F-Droid. Plenty of other Reddit clients too if you don't like RedReader, but it's what I'd recommend from personal experience.
I use RedReader. It's basically perfect to me. Also open source and available from F-Droid if you care about that.
Which Reddit client are you using? Have you tried RedReader?
RedReader
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
I recommend RedReader instead (alt). It avoids the usual adware nonsense and more importantly... you get the proper raw & zoomable images (except for some galleries which inexplicably only exist in their gallery mode even on PC). I can't imagine how annoying CYOAs must be with something else on a phone.
I used to use RedReader, and found Apollo was the closest client on iOS. I actually miss a few of the features from it, especially how it handles multiple accounts.
The only Reddit app I've ever used RedReader.
I started using it bc it was open source and there wasn't tons of competition back then (2012ish). You can send messages through it. Biggest negative is that it doesn't play nice with Reddit's formatting when viewing posts; otherwise, no other gripes.
If you're on Android I can recommend using RedReader https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=en_US
It allows you to block all NSFW content, subs that are marked as NSFW will refuse to load. Even searching directly for them will not yield any content. App might take a bit of time to get used to so don't get frustrated on your first try.
Redreader is a good alternative to reddit app
Maybe try RedReader then. I started using it when I had a phone with very little space because it was small, but I've since moved to a new phone with much more space and tried out all the major Reddit apps again. I didn't switch to any other apps because none of them I've looked at are as space efficient layout-wise as RedReader. The only somewhat annoying thing is that it doesn't let me edit multireddits, so I keep Slide around for that.
I like RedReader more than any of the others I've used so far.
It's not flashy or slick but what I like about it is it's extremely fast, clean and lean. It does everything I want and nothing I don't. It's truly FOSS (Free and Open Source). No ads. No cost. No nonsense. It has dark mode. The navigation UI is simple and effective, you can figure out how to use it in like 5 seconds, unlike some of the others that are counterintutive and leave you guessing how to do stuff.
I've seen some that are fancier for sure, but I've never seen one that's faster or better in any way.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
use unofficial apps then. like RedReader. Just turn off all the pre-cache options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.redditoffline
If you don't post much and mostly "lurk". Use RedditOffline to download on cheaper/free wifi, then read stuff on the go.
I highly recommend RedReader. Super simple and clean.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
Copied from their Play Store page:
I suggest RedReader. Open source, no ads, extremely customizable and all around insane for such a small sized app.
I've been using it for years and you can tell the amount of work the authors put into it over that time. Check it out!
Looks cool! But not open source, and only on IOS . This here is an open source reddit app ( on both ios and android) : Red Reader android
The alpha version has features that haven't been pushed to the main app yet, since the dev is still testing them out.
Here's the link to the alpha version: https://redreader.org/alpha/
And here's the Google Play version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
The dev, /u/QuantumBadger, is also pretty responsive when it comes to features and bug reports too. You can visit the sub at /r/RedReader.
the goat is right don't chose convenience over security.
If you still think it's safe,I know that redRreader has a Tor option. But It's flagged as experimental.
RedReader, open source and though it doesn't have the slickest UI, I've found it has the most functional UI.
I'm not a fan of putting your subreddit list under the app drawer, which every reddit app and their brother seems to do. On the main screen is a listing of your subreddits, so I'm not forced to reach for the top left of the screen constantly to switch subreddits.
It also doesn't clutter the post listing with all the upvote/downvote/save/etc. icons. Displays the post title and number of comments only and puts everything else under the context menu. No wasted space with card UI and thumbnails either.
> Slide for Reddit
I'll check it out. Currently I'm using RedReader (F-droid and Google Play) and I'm quite happy with it.
Thanks!
If you wanted a reddit app that has a simmilar layout to alien blue, try RedReader. Quite frankly, other than that layout it has no redeeming qualities, but the layout is the whole reason I use it.
Edit: It does actually have one: It keeps a cache of posts from the last time you loaded that page so you can browse offline. Oh, and its free and has no ads.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
^ RedReader for Android.
Good for text based subreddits, not so much for image based subreddits. When you load the subreddit it caches all comments sections. This means you can load up askreddit and check all of the comments later when your internet goes down.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader&hl=es_419
RedReader for Android is what you're looking for.
Once you open up a comment thread from /r/askreddit, that thread is cached. Even if you go offline you can still access all of the comments.
It also allows easy collapsing of comments by tapping the comment. You may have to set this in your settings first as there are customisable actions for things like single tap, swipe left/right, etc.
I've found this incredibly useful for loading up a few threads while on wifi and going back to them when my connection cuts out at work.
I went on holiday recently which Involved a 5 hour car ride, and this app allowed me to make the time pass very quickly. I loaded up about 50 comment threads for offline browsing through south Wales where the mobile connection is spotty at best.
I bought it straight up. I love the simple look and how it naturally "stands out of the way" of a good wallpaper.
If you ever get the chance, it'd be really cool if you could please include an icon for RedReader, it's like my favorite Reddit app and zero icon packs support it. T_T

There's no need to be snarky. I never said that all apps have that feature, but there are free (or even open source) solutions out there. RedReader is a free open source reddit app.
If not you could always buy reddit is fun, buy reddit gold, use a different app or save the URL (or add as favorite) in your phone's browser.

> I really didnt know fabricating your own board is basically standardizing a board!
Well, it's not really that remarkable... If you develop your own board then it's automatically your "standard" - but standards only matter when other people get involved and want to be compatible with what you created.
IBM used off-the-shelf components (like a CPU that Intel had created in 1979) and bought an OS from Micro-Soft, and in 1981 released the first PC. They published the specifications (voltages, timings, data formats) so other companies could support it; these companies developed additional hardware (like sound cards) which helped the PC... but eventually IBM lost control of the standard when others created better motherboards. There is only a standard of "IBM PC compatible" computers because everybody in the industry knows that people won't buy hard-/software that isn't compatible with the hard-/software they already bought.
That's a common theme you see in the early history of computing: either a company needs a CPU for a project, or a company develops a CPU and others develop a system around it.
> The new reddit update
Do you mean the app? Personally I use RedReader. On the desktop I've switched to the old design.
Fuck the Reddit app, use the open-source RedReader
RedReader no ads, open source
Legal a iniciativa.

I really like Redreader https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
RedReader on ollut ainut reddit sovellus jonka olen kelpuuttanut.

Submitting RedReader for consideration, since the lack of permissions and swipeable interface are awesome.
This. I was unaware also on mobile, but someone today pointed me to Reddit app (Android). So far, so good.
It's removed in the Play Store Version here

Redreader ftw. Free. No ads. No shit. Just a really neat client.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
The only thing I got out of this was the existence of RedReader, a full-featured open-source Reddit app. Free, and no ads, nags, or in-app purchases!
It breaks my heart the downfall of this app. I used to use Reddit Sync religiously back when it actually did what it was called. Synched reddit so you could use it offline. The one day he started getting greedy, charging people twice to buy pro, stripping out features.
A few of us complained but the fanboyism drowned it all out. I'm honestly not surprised about this happening.
The only benefit is that eventually found RedReader, such a beautiful, simple and functional reddit client. Hard to remember a time without it now.
