Step 1: Install Google Opinion Rewards
Step 2: Live your life.
Step 3: Take 5-20 second surveys every so often that give you $0.10 to $1.00 in Google Play money
Step 4: Buy Sync for reddit for free!
Sync users: if you didn't see Lawrence's post yesterday, this change means the poor guy now has to pay imgur to display their albums. Due to the number of users of Sync, he'll probably have to pay $500 a month - which is a hell of a lot for a solo dev to stomach!
However, this is based on usage, so if we cut down on our usage of the in-app album handling, hopefully Lawrence won't have to pay quite as much. To do this, download this imgur app, then disable in-app imgur album handling in settings > images.
This is unfortunate, I really like how Sync handles imgur galleries (I use the thumbnail previews all the time, often I download the whole gallery).
Here is a seemless way to make the imgur app work (it is not so bad, I find it faster than looking at galleries in the browser):
1. Install the imgur app from the play store
2. Disable imgur galleries in link options as LJD said
3. Add m.imgur.com and imgur.com to Bypass external domains (Always open externally)
I hope this gets fixed ASAP by imgur.
Would be even better if it automatically backed up and restored using your Google account. I don't understand why more devs don't do this. Take Notification Toggle for eg, I've been using this for a few years now across different devices and ROMs and it automagically restores my settings each time - I never have to open the app to do that.
If you use the app enough to notice and complain about ads, you can afford the few bucks it costs for ad free browsing.
As an Android user you have access to Google Opinion Rewards that pays you in Play Store credit for answering short questions about your behavior (both on and offline). To date I have earned nearly $60 for taking a minute or less out of my day to take surveys, plus the credits last for 1 year after they've been received.
Hi there! Our API is well documented and open source. Feel free to join us devs on IRC or shoot an email over to if you need some help, /u/ljdawson :)
Thanks, pen0r, you rock.
The imgur app sucks. Opengur is better, open-source and ad-free.
And since the Imgur API allows free apps to access the API without cost, you know the dev isn't being ripped off.
Ditto. I use Reddit all the time, hate Reddit mobile and redesign, which gives me little confidence in their app. Dev seems active and friendly. Plus I can do this (งツ)ว. Worth.

Actually it’s most likely Android Studio which is also based off IntelliJ IDEA as well, but with Android goodies baked in and enabled by default, maintained by the Android team at Google.
No sound + can't share on whatsapp is far from working, unfortunately.
To rectify this we have to use a separate app called Viewdeo
If you have ever used an iOS device, it allows any app that has unread notifications to have a badge on the lower left corner of the app icon showing you how many of these you have. AFAIK it only works with Nova Launcher.

I ran it through Tholotis for the blur effect.
And he has stated he hates widgets, think he said he was going to try it though. I use redditinator as it lets me open into sync
This feature currently does not exist in Sync. You can, however, upload it to imgur via imgur.com, the official app, or (my personal favorite) the third party app Opengur. These will then give you a link.
Relay for reddit, for quite a while actually. There were a few quirks I couldn't get past (as sad as it seems, themeing was one of them). I tried out Sync again and here I am.
You should perhaps consider the Google Rewards Survey app and reduce that number to zero by letting it ask you about where you've been in return for money to spend on Google Play.
ITT - people who think Swipe is Slide. This is not the case!
Swipe for reddit is an app that was developed by LJD for image-focused subs to make it easy to flip (swipe) through the content.
This app was the first of its kind. Often imitated, never duplicated! Now we will have the feature baked right into sync.
If you're looking for a way to manage translators and translations (you might already know about it),is Crowdin (https://crowdin.com/page/tour).
Some open-source apps I've used it and they liked it. It's free if your app is open-source...which, now at the end of this message, I don't actually know if it is. But, it's on GitHub?
I replied to this issue in another thread recently, so I'll just copy/paste it here:
>I had the same issue, and DNSet fixed it. It basically sets up a VPN that sets the Google DNS for you.
> This was the only thing that helped with my LG G3, until the last phone update (24b, VZW) fixed the issue with WiFi. I've heard it has something to do with Lollipop and IPv6, but try DNSet and see if it doesn't work for you.
That's simply not true. Sync for reddit (Pro) does not come with the ad libraries and hence doesn't require any of their permissions.
However, if the regular app was made ad free via IAP, that won't change the required permissions. The permission won't be used by it - but is still required for installation.
I use an app called AppDetox . This app lets you set limits on how much time you can spend on an app. I set mine to let me spend only 30 minutes per day on SyncPro. Once you pass the specified amount of time you can't open the app until the next day.
I'd like to ask you guys to please spread the word about sync whenever you see people complaining about the notification. It is easy to disable a notification, but sync provides a superior experience over the official Reddit app, and people might not know about it.
Also it is ez to press this button: Play store link: Sync for reddit
There's some non-official Imgur apps (Opengur) that are most likely relying on that API.
Since it's open source, contains no ads and the devs doesn't charge anything, I suspect it will eventually dissapear. Too bad, because it's the only Imgur app I enjoy using.
Looks like I'll revert back to the mobile website at some point..
EDIT: Nevermind
> The Imgur API is free for non-commercial usage. Your application is probably free if you don't plan on making any money with it, or if it's open source.
Hi /u/greenphlem , we've discussed https support before and it was Laurence that I quoted when I said reddit wasn't very enthusiastic about using pay.reddit.com for https support. I am sure /u/ljdawson has his own priorities in mind for the app and I don't mind waiting for https at all.
Looks like you're posting about the official reddit app? You should post it in r/redditmobile.
This subreddit is for Sync for reddit, a 3rd party app.
Edit: Actually I understand how you misinterpreted it now. reddit "sync"
Here:
Choose "join beta" at bottom of listing. It takes 30m or so to update.
No need to pay extra.
Might be something else then other commenter said, or the same in a different way. "v.reddit" links are of a different filetype called "mpd". Sync doesn't support downloading those as mp4 files. There have been quite some discussions to add this but it would add a lot of filesize to the client with very little reward.
~~Beat~~ Best solution is downloading an app like viewdeo, or directly sharing the link.
Secure Folder leverages the defence-grade Samsung Knox security platform to create a private, encrypted space on your Samsung Galaxy phone. Apps and data moved to Secure Folder are sandboxed separately on the device and gain an additional layer of security and privacy.
Easier and more convenient Store your private files and apps safely. It's easy to move apps and data by tapping "Move to Secure Folder" or by importing them via "Add files" from inside Secure Folder. Your personal apps and data will be separated and encrypted so that they are protected from malicious attacks.
More secure Lock your Secure Folder with an additional PIN, pattern, password, or biometric lock, so that only you can access your private pictures, apps, and data.
Effectively manage data Add or copy your apps and data into Secure Folder. You can use Secure Folder to store your private contacts, photos, and more in a separate account. This allows you to have two profiles on a device so you can manage your data more effectively.
I'm just wondering why it stopped working since yesterday (I think or before that) and I'm not signed in on Google while inside the secure folder but Sync worked before regardless
This might not be what you're looking for, but you could use Quality Time to track time spent on various apps.
You can see each days usage of each app like this
/r/redditsync is the subreddit for the reddit sync app --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync&hl=en
I have no idea if there is a support forum for reddit is fun, I've used it once more than two years ago and found it quite lacking in functionality, never tried it again.
Assuming you understand this is a beta (bugs, uncomplete features, frequent changes and so on are expected), you can join the beta program using the Play Store. Go to Sync Pro there*, and scroll to the bottom. You'll find a dialog with more info and a Join or Accept button.
The app costs a few bucks. That is the price of a beer, hamburger, etc. If the app went on sale for 20% off it would save you something like $0.50... so you are saying you cannot afford the app at full price but can afford it for 50 cents less?!
If you cannot buy Pro or the IAP to remove ads... then the free app has all the same functionality just has ads.
You could also use Google Opinion Rewards and earn some money towards Google Play purchases and use that to buy Sync.
You could download something lighter weight if you wanted. No sense in downloading the Drive app if all you want is copy to clipboard. Plus, it has some nice features too; (spoiler, I don't use this app).
An even lighter weight app that only has the ability to copy stuff to the clipboard from the share menu--if you so desire.
You could try using a different browser like Brave, it was co-founded by Brendan Eich, who created JavaScript and co-founded the Mozilla foundation. Anyway it blocks all the ads and shit and allows you an option to pay the sites you like via Bitcoin (or at least it will if it doesn't now).
You could install Custom Quick Settings
This will let you add a toggle in your Quick Settings for Immersive mode.
You may have to run a couple of ADB commands when you first install. It's been a while since I set mine up.
This is what my screen looks like.
This also means that you can run any app without the status bar.
Wait, can't you use a notification listener to read the contents of notifications? I've seen a bunch of apps that do similar stuff - like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.uniquegem.directchat&hl=en
But then it would be in the app in your device only and can't be accessed anywhere else. And clearing the app data or uninstalling, or even logging out would remove all of it.
And how would the UX even work? A section for the saved posts in reddit and a separate section for saved posts in your device?
Would sharing the post/comment to a read later app like pocket work for your usecase?
Just realised you can insert your device information as well as a link to Sync on the play store too, sweet.

> Theory test
I did my driving theory test like 2 months ago and got every question right. I recommend this app. It's completely free as well.
Full page ads in gallery were implemented due to imgur's increased api cost.
If you want to disable ads but not pay out of pocket, use Google Opinion Rewards.
You should check out lux. I don't think I've had my retinas burned since installing it.
With the night mode enabled I don't have any issues, even checking the time if I wake up in the middle of the night.
Is it though? I use reddit offline for my morning commute on the tube. You can set it up to sync the top X pages of your favourite subreddits including comments at any time every day (e.g. 7am and 5pm). Unfortunately it's lacking a bit on other features and it's also not the prettiest reddit app out there. If that wasn't the case though I would uninstall reddit sync without hesitation. It's really a shame that comment caching was removed when reddit sync was rewritten (after all it is called reddit SYNC).
I'm using Viewdeo (free). Simply share the link of the post with the app, and it will download the video with sound.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegnatiek.veddit
You can use this app save them. Just share the link to the app and it'll download it.
Sadly because of how reddit video works, this is the only solution aside from the u/vreddit_bot.
A theming framework/app called Substratum. They have various levels of theming options depending on your device (rooted? stock? custom ROM? etc). Not every theme has skins for Sync, but the particular one I'm using (OutlinePro) does.
I'm seeing a strange crash come through.
By any chance did you sideload Google Play Services or Chrome?
Do you have this app installed?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alibaba.intl.android.apps.poseidon
That sounds like it would take a lot of bandwidth for little gain. I think you would be better off using iftt to send a push notification to your phone instead of an email. There's an iftt service called pushover that looks like it might be useful for that? I'm not an expert tho.
I'd use something like IFTTT for that sort of thing. There's even a recipe available (disclaimer: I haven't tested it).
I don't think reddit's API supports notifications for new posts, so I guess adding this in the app would require some not-so-clean trick... and for that we already have IFTTT or similar services.
I've got one, but it's from a few months ago. (version 6.1)
If anyone has a newer one, feel free to share it.
~~RedditSync 6.1~~

You need to scroll down and select "join beta". It will take maybe 10 minutes before you'll see the update available.
isn't it easier to reach the 3 dots and pick "view subreddit" ?
if you have super tall phone, maybe Reachability Cursor is the app for ya
I use this app: Watch Later
Make it your default app for YouTube and disable the sync YouTube integration (ie open YouTube videos externally).
this is not a bug, it's just that v.redd.it is like this for some reason and downloading the videos(especially with audio) and sharing them is not as simple as it is for other video sites.
i don't know if sync will add support for this kind of thing anyway, but you can try sharing the video link to this app and it'll download it for you.
Same here, and the thing is that this happened out of nowhere: It used to work brilliantly beforehand. There was a recent system update which is the only thing I can pinpoint as the reason. Cleaeing cache and reinstalling didn't work.
Edit: It turns out that the problem is that my government banned imgur in the country, I can circumvent the block via Zenmate. Sync is not problematic
It's the subreddit for Sync for reddit, a third-party Reddit app for Android.
This information is in the sidebar, by the way.
The license is done through Google play. You can add your Google account to the secure folder if you want to enable license checking for apps you've already brought.
Just note, google will then be able to "see" what's happening in secure folder.
Another option as you have android 8 is to use shelter. It makes use of Android's work profile. It's about the same as secure folder, but would let you keep secure folder for your secure stuff. Agains you can add your Google account to secure folder to enable license checking.
Edit: added shelter info, fixed some spelling.
There's two versions without ads.
One is the IAP which you've done, it's the free version minus the ads. Not Pro. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync
One is a standalone app without the ad code in it full stop. THAT is Sync Pro. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync.pro
Tbqh the developer should never have done the IAP option, it's unreliable and confuses the crap out of everyone
I've tried Stash for Reddit before, but deleted it as there were almost no options for text size, etc. It appears to be recently updated so I'm going to give it another go.

Wow. These editor options are awesome! You should totally download Play store link: Sync for reddit and check it out! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Hews is my favorite.
It's open source, customizable, and also has some pretty unique features such as:
Viewing top posts by specific time ranges (e.g. Jan 2011->June 2011)
An 'auto summary' thing that'll automatically check for 'tldr' in the post and put it under the post title
Configure line height, font, etc through the UI
And some other stuff. It hasn't been updated recently but it still works perfectly, definitely recommend it.
allows you to select which apps require fingerprint to access them. I've been using it for several months. I like it.
I should note, if you open the app & then close it, you can open it without the fingerprint scan. it will be secure again after you turn the screen off and turn back on.
Yep as an example, the Darker app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mlhg.screenfilter) has a list of intents you can use in Tasker to perform operations without opening the app.
The use case I'm going for here is when I connect to my Work WiFi I want to call an Intent I.e. redditsync.NSFW_OFF so the next time I go to reddit sync all my NSFW posts won't be visible.
Nope. These are normal browsers which you can download.
I'm not sure which one is considered the best one but this one is on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsbrowser.browser
Give it a try.
Install NetGuard, and allow apps to only access Internet when the screen is on:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.faircode.netguard
That will prevents apps draining your data and battery in the background.
Google Opinion Rewards. I signed up on the day it was released and haven't had a single survey yet, but my brother signed up last month and has had an abundance. Your mileage may vary.
Probably you could setup IFTTT so whenever you save a post it gets pushed to Pocket or Evernote or some other service.
For example:
(and I'm sure there are a ton more...)
I don't know, but for now I switched to Slide (on F-Droid). It can be configured to look and behave just like Sync.
If you really want Sync you can download the latest working .apk from ApkMirror.
No, you have to be rooted. Its on F-droid repository. Im sure there are apks around too, but F-droid is safe. It blocks based on the host file filters so you rarely get any annoying ads on mobile
I always get app icons straight from the play store listing (as viewed on an internet browser). Than you can just convert the .webp to a .png with an online tool.
I'm experiencing the same issue on my Moto X Pure. Sync Pro 11.2.4, no exposed or anything like that. The animation is sometimes flawless but sometimes it "pauses" half way through. I haven't really noticed if there is a pattern to which posts load comments smoothly and which don't.
I've had this issue on my Pixel 3 on Flamingo for Twitter, Slide for Reddit, and Sync for Reddit. I posted a GitHub issue about it for Slide here but it's either a Pixel issue, or a Pie issue.
Are you using a VPN? I get those errors when I set mine (Astrill) to Switzerland. When I point it to Sweden, it works fine. Maybe there's some cdn protection in place (cloudflare or whatever) that has blacklisted your IP for some reason.
Image posting is done through the commercial API on Imgur. There was a similar problem with uploading images awhile ago. I don't remember if it was before or after the v20 fiasco.
/u/ljdawson claimed that it was a problem on the API side but either Sync is the only app using the commercial API or the problem was more local. There weren't any other complaints about the API not working on their tech support blog and the report posted by our developer seemed to go unanswered. Eventually the function was restored with little comment.
One work around is to use another app to upload to imgur. I think Quick Imgur was a pretty popular alternative.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superyao.tuchuang
Browse here and select join the beta.
After joining the beta you may need to wait a few minutes to download the update.
I just installed Quickimgur, which seems very much better than the official app. No account needed, quick upload, automatically copies image link to clipboard, done.
I've been using viewdeo to share reddit domain stuff
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegnatiek.veddit
She the link to what you want to send to this app. It downloads it and makes a copy you can share.
Sync Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync.pro&hl=en_US
Sync Free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync&hl=en_US
Sync Pro is a paid app, Sync Free is a free app with in app purchase to remove ads. After the IAP for free, Pro and Free are essentially the same. However, sometimes Google's IAP system can be faulty and a user of Sync Free with ads removed can have ads showing up on their app but that can be typically fixed with a reboot or reinstall.
I use this app for per-app rotation control. I only have auto rotate on for photos and YouTube, and the quick toggle for rotation still works like normal for everything else.
Tell your friend to make a NSFW account and sign into it on this app
Its a gallery app that shows only gifs/pictures. I dont want to sound like a sponsor so I wont go into more detail, but every since I found it my normal reddit account is strictly business!
I don't think you can buy it from within the free app. You have to go back to the app store.
You may be able to try going through the Play store support and explain that you want to refund the in app purchase, and then buy the pro app instead.
It doesn't have a lot of features but Reddit Offline will do this. It's read-only (no commenting or voting) but that's going to be true any time you don't have a data connection. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.redditoffline
I am using this free app from playstore and this works flawlessly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegnatiek.veddit
Just download it and when you want to download it just share the video to this app and then it's downloaded and you can easily send it in other apps
The bot used to be quite reliable but it got shut down on some subs then it stopped working correctly for everything I sent to once the author brought it back.
Alternatively, I now use Viewdeo (free) (or the paid for one) to save the videos with sound. You share the vreddit link to the app and it'll allow you to save it. This is a temporary solution until ld can find a better way to do it in the app.
Edit: nevermind still saves the huge gif rather than the video. Still found it useful for saving vreddit videos with sound (to share on WhatsApp) when Sync won't.
Think the bit got banned as it used to convert the i.reddit links to mp4 and host them on streamable... download viewedo free you can still convert those links to mp4
which one did you buy? the in-app purchase one? if so, maybe an uninstall, reboot and reinstall could fix it. and try clicking the "remove ads" button again.
if it wasn't the in-app purchase one, then you have to install whichever one it is you bought.
if you don't know which one you bought: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azefsw.purchasedapps
either send them the v.redd.it link(which will just link to the post probably)
or
try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegnatiek.veddit
it'll let you download the videos(with sound and all).
Use Tasker to do most of this. Have launching Sync as a trigger and then a profile with wait and a toast or kill app command after so much time has passed. I believe you can also "lock" apps to only be launched within a certain time frame. There are tutorials around the internet to help you learn to do all sorts of things with Tasker.

Firefox Focus is a good solution to this, it actually uses the system webview so under the hood it's basically chrome but with a built-in adblocker and it deletes all browsing history and cookies on exit. Just set it as your default browser and it'll handle all chrome custom tabs.
