I am also looking for a good Reddit pics gallery app. I thought I had one with Reddit Pics HD, but it turns out it automatically filters out BOTH animated GIFs and links to multi-image Imgurs (WTF?). Spoiled by Gallery for Reddit on Android. Any recommendations?
Tell your friend to make a NSFW account and sign into it on this app
Its a gallery app that shows only gifs/pictures. I dont want to sound like a sponsor so I wont go into more detail, but every since I found it my normal reddit account is strictly business!
this is the best image viewer
gallery for reddit
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mightyfrog.android.redditgallery&hl=en_US
and i use bacon reader for the comments, bacon reader will launch automatically from gallery for reddit if you have it installed...
edit: nevermind, i don't use a iphone
I believe
Gallery for reddit is one that is very good gallery wise.
Slide for reddit is very nice as far navigating the app, and it has a video addon so videos slide on and you can swipe it away, and you can also long press any video, pcture, or link to get a popup preview without going to the page.

it doesn't have any functionality for comments, if you hit comment it goes to your default reddit app of choice. It gives you a nice image browsing experience.
I've personally used Reddit Pics HD for years and years, ever since my first iPhone 4. I bought the ad free version for about 3 euros after using it for half a year. It's only for iOS though if I recall correctly, and it's not for everyone. Not sure if it's open source, probably not.
It's basically strips Reddit down to images and GIFs and you can select all, a sub or a multisub and just swipe through the images with a small bar at the bottom with the title. If you open the comments it opens i.reddit.com which works really well for me. It also allows you to save GIFs as either GIF or MP4, which was really handy for back when iOS didn't properly support GIFs.

Edit: I googled for an Android version and while FunPokes offers an apk from their website, someone said it was nothing like the iOS app. Someone else recommended this app for Android.
I have been using gallery for reddit:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mightyfrog.android.redditgallery
Haven't tried that one yet, will give it a go. Still, since sync supports multiple views, I thought it would be a nice feature.
Strange, I couldn't find it from a search either.
Hopefully that works for you, I suspect it may have been removed or something though?
Gallery for Reddit - The best porn app there is. Just import (in the options) your favorite NSFW subreddits (list here or here) or simply tap on the "/r/" button at the bottom and write/paste the subreddit (or multiple by using +) you want to view and enjoy grid after grid of glorious porn! Password protection for the whole app is there, just in case.
Skitch - There is still nothing better for annotating images.
Gallery for Reddit - A great client for reddit and displays just images from any (or all) subreddits.
Stitch & Share - This app allows you to "stitch" multiple screenshots together, so if you have a long list, instead of having 5 screenshots, you'll have one long screenshot.
CalcNote - A notepad style calculator where you can link calculations, so when you go back and change a number it affects the whole link.
YuBrowser - Snapdragon optimized browser, which really does make a noticeable difference for me. So much smoother than Chrome and faster too.
Savelist - This is a wishlist aggregator. Very useful for keeping organized. If you like something on say Amazon, share it to this app and it'll get added to the list. You'll get notified if the price drops or when it's back in stock if it's currently unavailable. And it works with almost all sites, so you can have one giant wishlist at a glance instead of fragmented lists on Amazon, Banggood, etc... The dev team is very friendly and nice, from Spain, plus responsive.
Solid Explorer - I don't think I really need to mention this app, cause everyone already knows about it and how great it is. However I will give you a small tip. If you pinch-zoom on the list you can make it bigger or smaller. If you pinch-zoom on the thumbnail view ("Gallery"), you can change it into 1 grid, 2 grid or 3 grid view. In addition to local file management, I use this app to replace Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive apps.
Dimly - This is a night mode app that changes the tone of your screen to filter out the blue light. The reason I like this one is because, it's very light. You turn it on, adjust what you want, and you can control it from the notification centre, so in the morning you quickly turn it off and there is nothing running in the background, no services, etc.
BubbleUPNP - This app is simply fantastic! You can do so many things. I'll give you one scenario. I don't like having my music collection all over the place (Phone, PC, Laptop). So I store it in the central location (Dropbox) and then using BubbleUPnP, I can stream to either the phone or foobar on the Windows machines. I save space and there is no needless duplication. EDIT: Also forgot to mention that this is the only app that displays artwork over the stream.
List My apps - This app lets you save a list of currently installed applications. Great for keeping a log as a backup.
App Backup & Restore - IMO, the best APK backup app. I've emailed the devs a few times about some bugs and features and they've responded and implemented things, so a good responsive team is already great and worthy of mention.
SuperGenPass - A hash password generator, uses the url and your keyword. Makes it so convenient and quick to enter passwords into websites. Tap on Share, pick SGP, enter your keyword, click "Generate", the password is copied, just paste it. Done.
KeePass - Open source password manager. Really good.
Xodo Docs - Currently my favourite PDF reader. I bought MoonReader, but still prefer this one.
Chromer - Chrome tabs. This is app is superb! Quickly open links in a separate "Chrome" window and keep it in the recents menu. This way you don't want to open Chrome, which is slower and to many tabs you probably already have there.
Open Link With - This is a great tool. It pulls up an app choice menu, so for example you're in Chrome and want to open the current link in Firefox. Just open "Share" menu, pick OLW, and it'll pull up the menu of supported applications, pick Firefox and the page opens in Firefox. This is one of those "invisible" tools that now that I have it, I just can't be without it.
GPS Data+ - This app provides you with various GNSS information, very nice design and lots of information provided.
MAPS.ME - This is the best OpenStreetMaps client. Very clean, nice UI, works smoothly, good functionality.
ScoutLog - You can save and categorize map points (favourites). If you travel or plan to travel somewhere, you can mark the sights you want to visit, shops, attractions, etc... Or simply mark points of interest around your town. Friendly, responsive, good dev.
SwiftSMS - If you're in Ireland, this app allows you to use your provider's free webtexts.
No no, that's just for albums. I'm talking about subreddit gallery like this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mightyfrog.android.redditgallery
Well that is just swell, thank you. Here is the link for the lazy.
Could be Gallery for Redit ?

Skitch - Still the best annotation application. The UI and annotations it applies are so good! Very smooth. Unfortunately EverNote bought them and promptly went ahead and killed the app.
Stitch & Share - In my opinion still the best screenshot stitching application for Android. I'm not sure why the dev took it down from the store.
Gallery for Reddit - I'm surprised all the praised Reddit apps don't offer this functionality, but it's very useful. It takes a subreddit and gives you a nice thumbnail gallery from it, no comments, nothing, just images. Very nice!
CalcNote - Notepad style calculator.
WPS Office - I think this is the best office app for Android. It's full of ads, but somehow manages to be much smoother when scrolling then Microsoft's own Office as well as Google's. Also has a very nice magnifying glass zoom reticle.
FlyTube - A lightweight pop-up window YouTube app. What you do is you share your YouTube video from the app into FlyTube, the pop-up window shows up and video starts playing. It does not offer anything else and that's great! Just video, it's light, quick, you can still seek, maximize and drag it around. Great app!
GPS Data+ - A very nice GNSS information app.
Check out Gallery for Reddit as an alternative. I've used it for nearly a year. It's not perfect but it is good.

I was thinking OP wanted something like Gallery for Reddit
