After one of the redditors asked for an app that shows you "Open with..." screen but only for 1-2 seconds I built Better Open With which does exactly that.
It will show you a popup with a list of apps that can handle the file and/or action you clicked and after 5 seconds (customizable per file type) launch the preferred app that you have selected in Better open with.
Try, Better Openwith app. It recognizes most of the apps based on links.
Also best tool to open links with multiple apps by choosing dynamically.

Uncheck use VLC.
Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Then install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stefanpledl.localcast
When it prompts you for a player, choose Better Open With.
I really like Better Open With. You set it as the default app and then you can choose an app from within the list. It's not an Xposed module but it works really well.
This sounds like a job for Better open with... It allows you do define default apps to open certain file types / protocols with. Also gives you the option to select an app each time you open the file / protocol.
Better Open With - Provides similar functionality to 'Just Once' - 'Always' popup you get when you click on file or link and there are several apps that can handle it but instead of permanently selecting an app it shows a countdown timer. You can click on any app you want or it will launch the preferred app that it configurable inside the app for different file types.
If you own Samsung device and you have updated to Marshmallow you have probably noticed that Samsung removed "Just Once/Always" option. As a result the first app you choose for some action will be set as a default app for that file type or action.
This is where Better Open With comes in. Once you install it clear all the defaults and when you are prompted to select an app click on Better Open With. After that you will get the old behavior back and you will get a prompt every time you do some action or click on a file.
It also has the nice bonus of having an auto-timer that will pick the last selected app in x seconds (user-configurable).
Have you tried Better Open With? If you set it as the default it'll come up with a list of the apps and then you can choose from those. It's not quite what you were talking about but its extremely handy
Clear the Default player. Check out this article it will walk you through it.
https://www.androidcentral.com/how-clear-default-applications-samsung-galaxy-s7
If you don't want to try that look at app "Better Open With"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Alternatively, if people have variants that have this option removed, you can use the "Better Open With" app to bring this functionality back.
I know this is said a lot but try clearing terrarium cache and force stopping, if all else fails download Betteropenwith and see if that helps you out.
I can highly recommend using "Better Open With" which is really cool if you want to use different apps depending on use ☺
I installed Better Open With which allows you to have multiple "open with" options as well as a default which is called if you make no choice (it's timer based, and you can set the time.)
The closest i came to a solution is this app, where you can set a default, but add a one second delay to chose something different. It was much to annoying for me, but maybe you want to give it a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
You can set Better Open With to handle Reddit links, so you don't have to choose to use one default app. Might be worth looking into.
Have you seen Better Open With ? It solves the same problem but with a different approach and it's free!
What's different is that you only see the popup dialogue for a few seconds (5 seconds by default, but customizable), allowing you to choose an app handler if you want, after which it will automagically open it with your preferred app!
Unlike other similar apps, you just wait for your preferred app handler to launch (no clicks necessary), or choose a different app in the meantime.
It does not support sharing yet but it will be added in the next version.
And then start using Better Open With which lets you set a default handler app, but gives you a couple seconds before it opens the default in case you need to send it to a different app, this totally fixes the "always"/"just once" dilemma!
Try Better Open With. You may have to clear defaults from the other apps before BOW can intercept the links. You will need to pick BOW at least once, then it will take over.
There's an app called "better open with" that should give you all the options. You could try it and see if it helps. If it works you can usually uninstall it afterwards. I haven't been on TTV today but I was still getting a good mix of the different links. It could just be whatever you are wanting to download isn't on those servers.
Edit. Better open with app, Google Play Store link
Did you install VLC media player ? Install it & then try it.
Looks like you have set 'MX player' as your default video play. Go to settinngs > installed apps > Mx player and click on 'clear defaults'.
If it still doesn't solve the problem , Use this app. Better Open With
Have you tried better open with? It does a decent job of allowing browser choice on the fly. I honestly prefer it to the idea of having separate defaults. better open with is pretty simple, but it is miles better than the standard app picker.
What about something like Better Open With?
That should let you choose browser/youtube every time you click a link which will have the side-effect of letting you change your mind if you mistapped before having to wait for youtube to get its slow ass loaded.
I installed an app called Better Open With, and for some reason it solved this problem. I configured the app, but didn't really get to use it. VLC wasn't showing either, and now everything is there. It's not the best solution, but you might try it and see what happens.
This is very annoying alright. Samsung have supposedly reversed this with August security update which i haven't received yet. Use the app below to resolve it until then, works really well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Whenever you open a new type of link (video/music/webpage etc.) click this new app. Then this new app will give you the options like you used to have. You can also set defaults if you wish in the settings. I wish I found out about this ages ago but I was stuck with same issue as you for a long time...
Go to settings > default apps > set as default > Whatsapp and hit clear defaults.
After that install Better Open With, Open Link With, or both to cover all your bases since some devs are bad at defining share intents.
You can set them to ask which app to use for each type of link/file or have it open automatically.
Unfortunately I have not used the app myself so I cannot give much help. From what I understand, when you click a link or open a file and you get prompted for an app, you set Better Open With as the default app and then it opens its own list which you can customize the way you want.
Also in case you haven't seen the app link posted by the other bot:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith

Ah, ok. The problem on s7 is that it's not very easy to change defaults.
Chrome or what ever has already taken control so the other programs dobt get a chance.
Try this app, the next time you try downloading something you should be prompted, then you can select a file explorer and choose where to save https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I think this is a bug. My s6 edge on 5.1.1 had the option to choose Once or Always. For now, this app is a work around. You might like it even if the bug wasn't present.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
It seems like a bug. Didn't behave like this on my S6 edge that ran 5.1.1. Here's an app that will work around the problem in the meantime.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I noticed this as well and the only "fix" I have found is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith it is free and brings back the same functionality. I am not affiliated with the app in anyway, I just found it and it works.
Use betteropenwith
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith&hl=en Setup a default browser that will be opened after a few seconds and select chrome when you want something different
Apparently will reset the defaults whenever a similar app is installed. I am pretty sure it just doesn't work on the S4. I am hoping this works which was linked in the comments above.
I'm running the latest version of Nova and can still use it as an external player. Although I'm not using the latest Android version on my Shield Pro as I hated the new main screen and the fact it affected some external players like K$di and possibly Nova. So Android 12 could be the issue. Maybe someone with the same issue might make a comment. I can possibly test this for you as I have a Xiaomi 4K Stick in the kids playroom running latest version of Android. Can you mention the other apps that listed nova? Or PM me if your are concerned about mentioning in the comments. In the mean time, have a look at the app "Better Open With" this might help, but can't promise anything. Good luck 🤞 👍 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
That's such a pain in the ass issue. Turning off personalized results works, I found that installing and setting up better open with was a better solution for me.
The app Better Open With has fixed link handling for me with tons of native apps vs opening in browser.
That's a great idea. I'm going to try it, and also see if it will work with other defaults in A12 that don't change, even when you try to change them. I've been using Open Better With, but it's not 100% effective.
>Android 12 has added something called 'Verified Links' to Android, in where app developers can verify with Google that they own the specified domains that the app is registering to handle. Once verified, opening a supported verified link in Android will automatically open the link in the supported app instead of asking the user which app they want to use.1
Additionally, Android will now open unverified links in the default browser app instead of asking the user.2
What this means is that, since RiF does not own the reddit.com domain and cannot register them as Verified Links, Android 12 users will no longer receive a prompt to open reddit links in RiF.
Taken from the RIF app wiki
You have to download something like Better Open With
Solution for Android 12 without root etc. (works on my OnePlus 8):
I use Focus for one-off reading, yeah, but I really prefer reading in dark mode. I also use Edge for mah word games only, Bromite when chromium works better on a website, Kiwi for Bypass Paywalls Clean, and DDG for web search & the app tracking blocker.
I use the Better Open With app to get around Android 12's verified link shenanigans.

Here's the explanation of why
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/qrxsh7/guide_how_to_fix_horrible_handling_of_links_on/
It might also be slightly bugged.
My workaround was installing this app and setting it as default browser to manage the links
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Go into your system settings, search for each app by name and set it to always ask to open supported links and file types (pref may be hidden under advanced). I recommend leaving the pref to open supported links in apps off in Firefox. You can always long-press on a link and choose open in external app, or open the ⋮ menu for the page and choose open in app.
To be able to truly choose between opening in your browser and a dedicated app, per link, try Better Open With. You set it as your default browser, email client, etc. Then it will provide a little pop-up for you to choose an actual app each time. It's very customisable and unobtrusive. You can set it to ignore some types of links/file associations completely.
Download the app Better Open With. Set it to be the default application for Browser links.
When you open reddit.com links it should now prompt you to choose what app to open the link with. May take a small bit of setup but I haven't had any issues with it since upgrading to Android 12 myself.
Try using this app called "open with" it should list every available app on you device
I used to use this application and every time I opened a link there would be a selection of applications to open the link with and it had a countdown. When the countdown ended it just opened in the default application.
This is a Google/Android issue that people (myself included) have raged about for months now. Google reigning supreme on limiting your options more with every update, and even worse the state of Pixel 6/6 Pro monthly updates...
Yeah, it is what it is. There's a Better Open With app that was supposed to help some but I could never get it to work 100% of the time.
Wow that's so bizarre I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of is I've seen some of these weird roms have a bunch of extra hidden settings, or see if an app like Better Open With works, but honestly it seems like Oppo screwed up big time.
Yes, turns out the programs not showing up are the issue. I don't know the details but the devs have to make them Android 12 compatible. The dev of MX Player updated for this and it works without issues.
For apps that still have this issue, Better Open with s a good workaround I found. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith&hl=en_CA&gl=US
I found the issue, apparently it is not a Xiaomi issue. This is happening with android 12 devices. There are two solutions the easy for me is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
You can select your default app.
Didn't seem to fix it. I asked the Discord and somebody said that it's just how A12 handles links now. Pretty unfortunate. I'm going to use Better Open With to bypass it.
Yep, it's an Android 12 thing. They changed how default apps are handled. I found an acceptable workaround by using the "better open with" app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith).
Not sure if this would work for YouTube links, but I got annoyed by every link opening in Chrome and there not being a way to clear the default browser so you got prompted, so I went looking for a solution. Note that I usually use Chrome Beta and have for years.
I found someone who said if you disable Chrome, it will enable the selection menu when you click a link, and lo and behold, it worked.
Solution #2 is to download an app like Better Open With or Choose Browser. These may allow you to choose where you want to open YouTube links each time.
I use a nifty little app called Better Open With to manage default apps. It adds functionality to your app selection, allowing you to choose which app to use for a given link, on the fly.
The new default app system for Android 12 is really awful. To get around it, I use Better Open With as my "default browser". It allows setting different apps as default for different sites, including Reddit.
Another idea: have you tried Intent Intercept to see if there's something invisible you can harness for the first-party app? (Maybe there's something in logcat?)
If your device is like my Galaxy Note 4, not allowing one to choose a different app each intent invocation and forcing a default choice, Better Open With can work around that behavior.
(Chances are you've tried those too, sorry.)
I use Better Open With. It lets you customize all the different file types and you can set to ask every time or hide specific apps you don't want to use to open.
Try "Better Open With". It does exactly as the name implies. Once you set it up, it basically replaces the "open with" dialogue with your own custom lists of apps for handing off various file types, to different browsers, media players, or file readers.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Hello, I'm going to tell you about the solution that I use ... install the application, open with and from there you can choose, I hope it helps you, greetings.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I use the "better open with" app Because I occasionally like to open certain files with different applications and always have the option to change my mind
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I have used Better Open With for years now. I set that to "Use Always" and you can define which apps you'd like to always have as an option to use to open a particular item or link. Plus, you can set a timer to open your default app. So, if you, say, don't make a choice in 5 seconds, it'll open the preset default app for you.
You can use Better Open With as your default browser intent handler so that you don't have to leave your browser defaults as unset.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I think this app solved it for me.
I've used it frequently in the past. On the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, it's not quite as handy, as the OS (as of unrooted stock Marshmallow) always sets a default app rather than permitting one-time choices, so I couple it with Better Open With (which includes many intents).
This app may help, but the filetypes in Android are pretty rigid and apps to handle "any file type" doesn't really exist, except maybe a file manager/browser.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith&hl=en_US
This doesn't matter what browser you use, what you are trying to disable is "custom tabs".
I don't know how to totally disable that, but you could Google it now that you k ow what its called.
I use better open with, you might like it, its free
Not sure if it's possible in Tasker, but you can try this app.
I can also see using a Chrome custom tab in AutoTools. But to get links into Tasker I just copy and watch the clipboard for "R ^http"
(Regex for begins with http) to process.
Look at the Better Open With app. I think it might work better than the "Open Link With..." app for what you want to do.
If you don't see ADM as a choice then use the app Better Open With by Giorgi Dalakishvili. It will force your Android to see your choice. See the Play store.

>Seems like this could also be baked into Android by allowing user additions to whatever list defines URL handlers.
The biggest problem with this is that it opens it up to problems if (or should I say when) a user inevitably tries setting a URL handle for an app that can't properly handle that kind of URL. Not to mention that it adds quite a great deal of complexity in a system that's intended to be relatively intuitive and seamless.
Google has worked very hard to shed the "Android is a lot more complicated than iOS..." reputation from the Android 2.0-3.0 days, over the years... and it's been an effort that has really paid off because that isn't something you hear nowhere nearly as often, anymore. What you're describing would add a lot more complexity (both under the hood in Android, for users who go playing in those settings without really understanding them, and for app developers who now have to add a whole lot more logic to their apps for checking, validating, and handling incompatible URLs) and is something that would only be used by a fraction of a percent of users.
Simply put: yes, Google could do it... but they won't. It would be a lot of added work with very minimal benefit.
But I think what you actually want can be handled by what would essentially a middleman app... the app would become the default handler for specified types (in your case, standard website URLs not already handled by another app), which could then be configured to send the Intent to a specified app.
It seems like Better Open With might be what you're looking for.
In case if you need more controls. You can use better open with. It's a very useful app.
Also try shuttle music player or other music player.
If you don't see ADM as a choice then use the app Better Open With by Giorgi Dalakishvili. It will force your Android to see ADM.

I also use Go4Go and I have the same problem. I asked the Better Open With app team to create a SGF Files category. If more people ask, maybe they will. That would solve the question. The email is and the app link is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith&hl=en.

When you choose play with then tap the better open icon. Look for BubbleUpnp
Not all websites let you stream with your installed apps.
If you want to change the default video player you can either install a new video app or just set all video player apps to default, e.g. go to mx player and all others and in settings clear to default. If you now play a video you get a prompt
If you don't want just to have this promt "once" and "always", then I can highly recommend Better Open With. You can decide which apps should be shown and how long.
For example I sometimes want to use Samsung's video player and sometimes MX Player. I could also use Google photos and some other apps, but I never use them for videos. With the recommended app I will get a prompt which will be shown for some seconds (you can decide how long) and if I don't chose it will open the video in your favorite app (in my case MX Player), but I can also chose any other from a list. I decided to just show these 2 apps and only 2s.
Here a screenshot of the menu when I want to play a video.
Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions
Your stock music player is causing this. Try disabling it. If this isn't possible then install this program and set the default apps as you want.
I found solution for that:
Install this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith&hl=ru
Then I selected "video stream" and put VRTV as favorite.
After that I was able to see it in the list of players when doing "Open As".
I'm not sure what does this app is doing... but it really works. I think this app is just resets some configurations for prefered apps and it helps.
I love Better Open With for intelligent browser picking, but doesn't it still force you to pick your browser each time instead of setting preferences based on the referring app?
Odd. I used it on Note 5, Note 7 and now S7E with zero issues at all. Never had a single problem. Literally.
Sure we are talking about same app? I am using this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
I'd like to add, if you have a newer Samsung phone, there is no option to only use an app once. It will always be set as the default. The best workaround right now, that I'm aware of, is an app that provides app options, such as Better Open With.
Go to system settings > app/app management > Chrome > clear defaults. To significantly improve the way Android handles opening apps install Better Open With and manage defaults through there.
As for Reddit the best thing to do is to try every popular app and see which one you like. I could simply tell you to install Relay for Reddit which is what I use but the main thing it comes down to is personal preference. It's why all of the "What is the Best Reddit App" posts are always left without a winner.
If you own Samsung device and you have updated to Marshmallow you have probably noticed that Samsung removed “Just Once/Always” option.

You should check out "Better Open With." It's much better at handling default apps than what's built into Android. To set different link handling rules go to browser > all sites > twitter.
I'm not quite sure, there isn't ability to select app and choose "Just Once" or "Always" anymore, not sure if it's Marshmallow or Samsung.
EDIT: Not particularly for this issue, but in XDA people were talking about this app called "Better Open With" Maybe you could try that out.
Unfortunately seems you now need a third party app for this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Seems to work well. So far used it to choose between Maps and Waze when I need one or the other.
So, it's not perfect, but it's the workaround I've been using.
Try Better Open With. It was created by a redditor. It's not perfect, but it's an innovative way of dealing with this exact commitment problem!
I use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Works great, you can choose which app gets listed and has the option to automatically open the favorite app.
If you install Better Open With you can just set it as the default and it'll bring up a list of all the apps that can open that item so you don't have to stick to just one. Or, as another user said, get Reddit Sync and open the videos inside the app
This us annoying as hell. If you tell it to always use an app, that preference is reset every time any one of the apps in that list get an update.
You can try using Better open with, but that didn't solve the problem for me.

Unlike other similar apps, you just wait for your preferred app handler to launch (no clicks necessary), or choose a different app in the meantime. Just set Better Open With as your default handler for the filetypes you want, and let it work for you!
With the latest update you can hide applications from the popup so that the popup isn't cluttered with extra apps. You can also set preferred apps for popular websites such as Youtube, Reddit, Play Store, Wikipedia and others.

Better Open With
What is it?
A customization app that modifies the default app handler.
What does it cost?
It's free. It does not contain ads.
Who is it for?
Users with multiple browsers and/or multiple apps that share similar functions. Users that try many apps.
How does it work?
Better Open With can be made the system default app for many actions. Actions then trigger a pop-up with a list of all applicable apps for whatever action was triggered.
What are some useful examples?
The best example is handling multiple browsers. I use Flynx, Firefox and Chrome (and sometimes another flavor-of-the-week type option). Each has their own pros and cons, and each one can be great or frustrating for specific tasks. Better Open With simplifies the layer of deciding which browser I want. I can individually choose immediately after I click a link or I can have it automatically use my last selected app after a couple seconds. Some other examples: I juggle first-party YouTube and NewPipe; a PDF editor and Google Drive’s PDF viewer; Samsung Camera and Open Camera.
Are there any other positives?
The app isn’t completely ugly. Many customization-based apps, especially older apps, can be jarringly out-of-date visually, but this app is passable. It has light and dark modes. You can get granular within specific default actions, removing apps from the available choices. It’s very straightforward to setup, and it’s not the kind of app that you’ll be revisiting much. It does what it does, there isn’t constant tweaking required. It is still supported. The last update was a couple months ago, fixing a minor (albeit annoying) bug with the way Chrome was being handled.
What are the negatives?
While there are some visual options, they’re still very basic. It’s not an app that will be universally needed. If setting a true default app works for a user 99% of the time, then using this app just adds a few seconds or one button tap of extra waiting.

Edit I used this before and can vouch that it works.
If I'm understanding you right, there's no setting to change this behavior, but check out the app Better Open With.

Make sure you sub yourself to /r/android, /r/androidgaming, /r/androidapps, and /r/galaxys6.
I recommend Better Open With, since Samsung really messed up the way they handle that with their latest phones. I don't know if the change affects the S6, but it does on the Note 5 and the S6+.
Galaxy Button Lights So you can turn off the annoying backlights on the touch key buttons (the ones on either side of the home button).
Opengur because the official Imgur app is garbage.
Twilight or CF.lumen if you want screen dimming/blue light filtering similar to f.lux for PC.
AirDroid is fucking awesome. You link your phone to your PC over wifi. You can easily transfer files, reply to text messages, even make and receive phone calls without even touching your phone.
Relay for Reddit, my favorite Reddit app. I've tried Reddit is Fun, BaconReader, and Flow in the past. This one is the best and it's compatible with PonyMotes so you can still see all the BetterPonyMotes goodness from mobile.
Google Opinion Rewards, they send you surveys and give you credit to spend on the Play Store.
A good keyboard. I've been using the paid version of Swype (free version link, I don't know what extra features the paid version has). Look around, Google Keyboard seems fairly popular too.

Oh wait, sorry I misunderstood. This app could give you better control over intents.
Try Better Open With
It does not have double tap feature but allows to achieve a similar result.
You can try Better Open With. You can set it to auto select a default option after a user defined time delay.
I use Better Open With as a workaround. Not perfect, but gets the job done.
there is also this another app you might try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Install this app and make it the default browser that will fix this issue

The #1 most annoying pixel bug for me personally. So much so that I started using the app Better Open With.
It's an Android 12 thing. We lost a bit of freedom on Android. Read this to catch up

My workaround was to install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
If you try this, try removing verified links from apps which are leading you where you don't want and set the app as default browser.
If you're still having trouble, try what I wrote in this comment from a few days ago. I don't feel like writing it again lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/vdcaa7/-/ickgjce
Also, there's no way to make this workaround work with the Google app or Google search bar from what I can tell. Only browsers and regular apps
Was it this app?

Are you using android 12? This is unfortunately a new intended behaviour. See:

Supposedly this app can help but I haven't tried it myself.
Same happened to me months back. It works if you use the Better Open With app.

I wanted to advise Better Open With, but as I understand it, it will not help you…
Try Better Open With. Check under the "Browser" setting, you can change the default app for different links.
Maybe BetterOpenWith?

Be careful, if you uninstall youtube app streaming to chromecast from this service wont be possible or will be very difficult . Workaround for this is app Better Open With you can change default app for almost every action. It's worth to try at least.
Maybe installing Better Open With could reset this behaviour?

Or, even better, use something like Better Open With. ☺
Use the free app called "Better open with" It works extremely well
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Not according to sync, at least for me.
Edit: I've found the issue to be that I use an app called Better Open With to handle my default apps. This gives me a lot more options than "always" or "only once" with a much nicer ui. Would it be possible to make it work with this app somehow?
