Amazing job once again! You've an amazing response time on bug reports and an even incredible release schedule! Slide has grown to be my favorite client thus far!
Don't forget to get some much deserved rest!
Edit: if people want to help translate the app to another language, visit https://crowdin.com/project/slide-for-reddit . English, Polish and Dutch are done but other languages could use your help!
This is because gfycat changed their URL. The fix was merged on Github, up to Ccrama to decide on a release schedule.

Correct. If you go to https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Google+Sans it links right at the top to:
>Google offers many fonts under open source licenses. This is not one of them. Please see fonts.google.com for options you can use.
Well the problem is right here (link to github). Both opening description and closing description are set to R.string.hello_world
.
Awesome!
I have a tip for the xkcd-addicted: download Easy xkcd, enable its offline mode, and then assign xkcd links in Slide to always open externally with it. Result: instant loading of xkcd links, with optional inverted night mode and alt text!
It's amazing!
I've brought this up before. Slide can't do audio for the v.redd.it media because of the Android media view.
Hello /u/TheGeorge, there isn't such a button yet, sorry. You can use the subreddit's name as the recipient of your message though.
Feel free to suggest it on the issue tracker!
Huh, didn't know that.
I did some googling, and there's also an app called Share to Clipboard you can use for this functionality. It's open source and can be found on Play Store and F-Droid. If you disable Include link title in the settings, it's what you'd expect: the URL in the clipboard and nothing else.
Not exactly what the OP is asking for, but it might come in handy if there are other apps missing built-in "Copy to clipboard" functionality, and you don't want Google's proprietary software on your phone.
Easiest thing to do would be to share it to the clipboard (if you have Drive installed). Other wise, download an app that allows you to get the URL to your clipboard and share it like that--that's what I do.
edit: Something like this app would help.
There's an issue on GitHub about this
I'm sure there's a way, but generally it's because the anchor links are referencing ids on the web page that don't get translated to the native view.
It is crashing because Slide does not support the new "live" sort method.
>AndroidRuntime: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: LIVE is not a constant in net.dean.jraw.models.CommentSort
Thank you for the report! I'll definitely look into it, Android should be taking care of that for me though so might be a bug with the support library. Could you make an issue on our GitHub page for it please? Thanks!
Yes, Slide is free with no ads. You can download it from Google Play or F-Droid.
when you open the app to have a level of security like a pin or pattern unlock.
hand your phone to someone, dont want them going through your reddit have the app password protected.
swipe for facebook has the option, stops people going into my facebook account if they're on my phone, just wondering if something similar would be implemented with slide

Got the bug on video! https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=ED3E99BC7F8F45FF!660595&authkey=!AH-mCG1eRg5FzXw&ithint=video%2cmp4
For the first time ive noticed if you scroll down and back up, then your comment is visible.
Great update, really like the icon tinting!
Is it possible to support a Read Later site like Pocket? I already save other articles there and it would be nice to have one destination for pages I want to read later. :)
There's already a pull request for adding RedGifs support. I don't know anything about software development, but I assume this means someone else has already done the work and all ccrama has to do is merge it.
I think there are a decent amount of simpler ones hanging out around the GitHub page. Quality of life stuff, minor bugs, even bigger ones.
We don't mark "good first issue" or anything yet but I think just generally walking through the code can get you somewhere quick.
The Discord channel we have is also a place if you wanted to work on it. We have lots of things we want to do that we mention there that may or may not come to fruition.
I have a PR out here that should resolve some of the performance issues on the Wiki pages and likely resolve yours.
It's not the cleanest solution since it's just pushing it from native views to a WebView and going forward someone may be able to sort one out better, but at the least this will get all the content rendered fairly quickly and still themed in a consistent way to the rest of the app.
If it turns out everyone agrees it's a good choice it may be a direction to go for now.
It's possible that logic is separate since someone else noted comments aren't collapsed by default when indicated they should be from settings. Would be something valuable to look into (maybe make an issue on GitHub
Thank you, realy glad you're enjoying Slide!
That is because the app is actually restarting in the background to change the settings. Unfortunately can't show a spinning icon, as there is actually currently no app open to display anything to the user!
I don't know why that would be occurring, as it is using Google's translation plurals api. Might be resolved in a future update
That is not possible, as long pressing is a base event in the Android OS and is hard coded into your device
It should slide the comment into the first location if you're responding to the main post, are you sure it wasn't right under there? Haven't seen that behavior before
No, that is not on the roadmap
Are you sure you weren't "force touching" on the link to bring up the link menu? Might explain why nothing happened if you have that option disabled (were touching part of the link box and not the comment)
I don't know how many users would use collapsing, if I get more requests I may look into it. As for searching, feel free to make a feature request on our Github page!
That is not something readily available by the about API for profiles. Showing that would double the amount of requests needed to display account info and might not be worth taking up that extra time for the majority of users
Thanks again for the feedback! Sorry for the late reply, took two weeks off so I didn't fail my finals ;)
That really isn't possible, every click handler is based off of the same class and the counter is static throughout the app. There are some views that don't use it (on purpose), but after a year of experimenting we settled on this. Code can be seen here
> but I'll take a look again
Thank you!
> Feel free to make a GitHub issue for it
You could reopen this issue, but since that one is partially solved at this point, I'll make a new issue if that's preferred. Thanks again.
That would make the feature a little over complicated imo. You can get the icon here though and apply it to your launcher!
Thanks für the report /u/phoexyael15.
/u/ccrama pushed a commit two days ago which should fix the bug with the next update (ETA unknown). If that shouldn't fix your issue, feel free to report back!
Yes, feel free to suggest it on the issue tracker!
We have a great amount of settings though, and our goal is to not increase them further if not really necessary.
Im not sure if it can be darker than #000000 :P
I'll investigate the offline thing tommorow.
https://github.com/ccrama/Slide/issues/1565
I believe this may still be happening. I get the error as well, but the option to Disconnect is available. So I think it is still able to authenticate.
Hey, the subscription is currently getting a complete overhaul. Link
If that one is merged (which will need a few weeks probably), it should be relatively easy to implement something like that, stay tuned!
I use Infinity as an alternative, and it's open source! I've used it for quite some time and love it!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ml.docilealligator.infinityforreddit
Here's the link for those interested.
recording your screen when the bug appears would probably be helpful for the devs. you could then open an issue on Github and attach the recording.
if you don't have a screen recording app yet, try ScreenCam.
Loading links in the background isn't something Slide does--nor should it. Use a Link Bubble style browser and have Slide opens links there. I recommend Flyperlink.
Nothing at all in the app at least. In fact, the web says the last version it's Version 5.6.5 (272) - Added on Jul 22, 2017
. Going to reinstall as soon as I'm home, just in case.
The fact that every other app gets updated even multiple times per week kinda bothers me.
https://f-droid.org/packages/me.ccrama.redditslide/
^(I'm even considering buying the pro version it from the Store to get rid of this, but for my country, Google only accepts credit cards.) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Haha. I would never!
A Pi-hole is software that runs on Linux, most commonly on a Raspberry Pi (hence the name), a PC or even a VM. It acts as a DNS server which now handles the DNS requests instead of them going straight to your ISP’s or Google’s DNS, for instance. You still select the DNS provider(s) so that you can reach your destination, Pi-hole just checks the request to see if it’s in one of the block lists or in the blacklist you’ve defined.
Like any other adblocker you provide it with block lists (there are many!) and it will block the requests before it even goes through the internet. This is particularly handy for blocking ads on your phone if you haven’t rooted it or have something stupid like an Apple device.
You will only have access to the Pi-hole when you are connected to the same network, though (eg. at home, at work etc. Wherever you have the Pi-hole running on the network). You could setup a VPN on it if you want to be able to use it when you’re outside your home. Personally, I have a rooted LineageOS phone running AdAway which accomplishes the same role (a host-based system-wide ad blocker) and to use a different DNS there is DNS66.
You can learn more about running a Pi-hole at their subreddit or their website
Here's a screenshot of this sub on Old Reddit. I added red circles around the index numbers that I am referring to.
I am not using RES or any other Reddit-specific browser extensions. I am using Dark Reader (which is why it looks like I have dark mode despite Old Reddit not having a native dark mode).
I'd like to point out that the people who work on this app (like me) are not employed by anyone and are not contractually obligated to work on it. We give up our own time to make this thing because we love programming and writing code and we want to make something thats pretty cool. Please don't be such a dick when something isn't working. We will try to get round to fixing it eventually but we don't have to do it and we don't have to do it in any sort of time frame.

P.S. (Post Script) Please feel free to correct my spelling/grammar/formatting as I am dyslexic and so am not good at these things.
No there's no config you can do to get around this unfortunately.
This it's def unintended behavior though, we've already opened it as an issue on the github, just have to wait until it gets patched.
Unfortunately the developer hasn't been updating Slide for Android for some time. I do understand he might be working on a rewrite of some sorts but the app has been broken for me for some time.
I have been using Infinity for Reddit for some time and its been running great.
You can find it on the below link:
Try and check out anbox. I haven't tried it myself but it aims to allow users to run android apps on Ubuntu.
Porting is a different story though. Afaik, it'd require writing a Gtk+/Qt app from scratch.
Aight, well it's apparent from activity on GitHub that there's active development, and the most recent release was only a couple months ago. Doesn't seem very dead to me. Bugs happen, and they ain't always quick/easy to fix. Patience :)
Yeah this has been an issue for a while. You used to get the error message but the post would submit anyway, then the issue was 'fixed' in an update and now the new post doesn't submit at all.
Its been reported to the dev on github
Any news on when it might be possible to submit new posts using post flair? At the moment it's impossible to even submit new posts on some subs.
Reported nearly two months ago https://github.com/ccrama/Slide/issues/3370
Awesome! I'm waiting for the fdroid version to come out! Just a few questions:
Github Issue: piggybacking is not working as intended. Is this working in the new version or has it been looked at?
Github Issue: there are some styling problems when using Amoled too, is it fixed?
Is it safe to assume there will be more updates from now on?
Thank you for all your work!
Hmmm. That's odd. Does it give you a 403 or 401 error when this comes up?
May I suggest that you raise this as an issue on our github?
> Here is another screenshot where you can see that the entire thing is hidden under keyboard by default when I'm typing something to reply you.
Oh, that bug. I think I've seen that before. Does it allow you to scroll down? If not, please raise an issue on the github.
Admins just announced it is rolling out for old reddit and in a few weeks will also affect third party apps.
Any idea when F-droid will get the update?
I found this topic so was wondering if it's a problem on their end again, seeing as I can see a newer tag on GitHub than F-droid's current version (6.2.2).
Thanks!
You can address some of the issues cited above, if you know where to look:
Multireddit as default https://github.com/ccrama/Slide/issues/2656
>It could be nice to have a way to make a multireddit the default displayed page when opening Slide.

>You can do this already. Go to settings, manage subreddits. Move the multi-reddit you want to open by default up at the top of this list. Whatever item is at the top of the list, opens up first.

>I already looked for the multireddit in "Manage subreddits" but didn't find it and just assumed multireddits didn't show up in that list. Just found out that i had to import the multireddit by pressing the "+" sign in the corner of "Manage subreddits" and press "Collection" where i was able to import my multireddit. Nice to see that this feature already exist, but I would say that it's too well hidden.
They will get read by some people, but GitHub is better for that as anybody can come along later and implement a feature if they want. Reddit threads will tend to fall off the radar fairly quickly
I think it's covered on there by https://github.com/ccrama/Slide/issues/2471
Yeah that was enough thanks, I have now removed myself.
I've submitted a fix which hopefully will make it into the next patch.
The issue was that Android's colour parser doesn't understand all the ones browsers do. For example it only has a small list of named colours. In that /r/GhostRecon thread a user had a note with the colour orange
. orange
is not one of the few colours android's colour parser knows about so it threw an error.
I don't know when the next patch would be, so in the meanwhile if you want to work around the bug what you could do is replace all usernotes that use named colours with ones that use hex codes.
e.g. replace orange
with #FFA500
and so on. Here's the table with the corresponding values if you want to do so
I'm guessing it's not passable to scroll up?
Also, have you raised this as an issue on the GitHub? Issues like this tend to get buried on the sub, as can be seen with this issue.
On a more personal note, I'd like to point out that there are really only four of us who support the app and we do it for free and for the love of programming. Us four are /u/ccrama, /u/timeawesomeness, Piwp (sorry, I don't know your reddit username) and I so things like this tend to slip through the cracks.

Yeah, this sub is kind of dead. Although apparently people get better responses when they their issues on the GitHub page for the app. Here's the page if you're interested: https://github.com/ccrama/Slide
It seems the Reddit page doesn't work well when Javascript is disabled. And on Android, Slide loads the login page via WebView, with Javascript disabled. The easier solution would be enabling Javascript in WebView:
https://developer.android.com/guide/webapps/webview#EnablingJavaScript
Sorry for the late response. I've been super busy with uni work the last few days. It's odd that your having this bug as I'm on the same version of Slide as you and I'm not really having an issue with Streamable links. In order for us to look at solving this quickly could you post an issue on our GitHub Issue Tracker? That way its easier to know what is broken and what has been tried when attempting to fix this issue. I'd recommend that you include the following information in your ticket:
Sorry I couldn't be of more use here but thanks for letting us know about this and we will hopefully be able to resolve this soonish. Have an amazing day!

I don't know if our app specifically handles custom tabs. I thought that was browser dependent. Either way, it's possible I broke this and equally possible I fixed it in this commit
But the changes in that commit are so far unreleased.
I think the last change I touched this in was here but it shouldn't have affected this either.
EDIT: Cool that link isn't a diff cool
Gotchya. I'm looking into it. I have a fix working for internal browsers and depending how that goes I'll adapt it for external browser handling.
My theory is that the url opens in Slide infinitely, because Slide is the default link handler for reddit.com links, but that url "https://www.reddit.com/gold/about", can only open in a WebView in Slide. So it opens, pushes to open externally, but re-opens in Slide again, and loops forever.
Actually, it does
Every time you leave the comment display it saves a draft, are you positive it is not in the draft menu? If not, have you reported the issue to me or to Github? Instead of taking drastic measures, sending me a PM or adding an issue on Github is a surefire way to get a bug fixed, especially one with such a simple fix
No I'm fairly sure swiping left is new. It was just swiping right (swiping from the left) before.
I think this is the commit. It's from less than a day ago.
Yeah, that is mainly what it boils down to. It is just a pretty complicated feature to both implement and explain to the user, and that is why I opted for a button that works on the currently selected view. Feel free to make an issue requesting an option to never show seen posts on our Github page, and we can take a look at it again for a future release!
Thanks for the info. If you can find a way to reproduce this (or situations/subs where it often occurs), please let me know! Feel free to make an issue on our Github page! Thank you for the feedback
Just wondering, but in this commit you changed the format of new comments from (+number) to just (number). Is that intentional?
I think it did it, I get the 5.1.2 but persist opening new instances using Last app switcher but I think is that app the culprit because I notice the same behavior using WhatsApp.
Another thing, in Settings, About, the View changelog give me a 404 error.
The new default app system for Android 12 is really awful. To get around it, I use Better Open With as my "default browser". It allows setting different apps as default for different sites, including Reddit.
From memory YouTube will only work internally if you have the video plugin installed, do you have it installed?
Not too sure about the behaviour of the domain list if the plugin isn't installed. Hope you can get it sorted though.
I have "Only cache on WiFi" enabled and "autocache subreddit" said no subreddits will back up, so I'm guessing that is not the problem.
When I'm browsing in a specific subreddit this rarely happens but in r/all is pretty common, sometimes I'm scrolling for a while and all the sudden that crazy download start, my guess is some kind of post that bug the app and start downloading a huge file from the server or something.
The app itself don't show me anything downloading but I use Net Speed to check my live bandwidth usage and it goes up to 10-15MB/s, the normal behavior while scrolling is to go up to 400-700KB/s while downloading new post and back to 0KB/s till I reach the bottom and need to download new posts.
When this happen I quickly disable my internet connection and then I had to wait till next day when the post is dead to happily browse in r/all again. If I set data saving options to don't load any images the problem it's solve and nothing gets downloaded.
Hope this info give an idea of where the problem may be.
Settings > Link handling > Custom domains > Force external browser > Add "youtu.be"/"youtube.com"
Or maybe you have this plugin already installed? In that case you may want to uninstall that?
Oh... I don't think you can specifically block gifs from one domain tagged NSFW. Tho there's a workaround using ImgurViewer, another app, that lets you load those gfycat links that're broken in Slide atm.
Rn, I still use another (open source) app called Imgur Viewer for that particular site.
The only reason is that it supports audio. Viewing particular domains with an external browser is seamless enough once set up inside Slide to not warrant any complaints from me about Redgifs support.
Maybe while they figure this out you could try that.
Install ImgurViewer and set v.redd.it to open externally in the settings. Set ImgurViewer as the default player when opening the first v.redd.it video after.
Why does Slide not show on Exodus? No entry at all.
BTW, shockingly, NORDVPN and VyprVPN BOTH show as having trackers! WTF! Is there any legit reason for that?
OpenVPN, which I not using cuz I dunno how to set it up, shows 0 trackers. But, it's got no killswitch. I know it's claimed that Android 8+ doesn't need one with that feature, but i'd still like it vs not. Anyway, should I dump both vpn's and find another?
Yay! Found a way! I already had an app that can stop all media audio but still let you get notification sounds. It's called "Quick Settings" it lets you manage tiles the Android slide down panel. It has a "music volume" tile that you can add.

I use Slide exclusively for Moderating. Excuse this link
If that feature is part of iOS itself, then there's no need for individual apps to implement such a feature. Here's an app that works system wide: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sp.protector.free
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccrama.me.slideyoutubeplugin
You also need the official YouTube app, though videos viewed through the plugin don't get associated with your Google account or history.
I used Now for Reddit before switching to Slide. IIRC it played GIFs/videos immediately, though it might pause to buffer. Both are equally great IMO.
If this option is already there (as I can't find anything in General, kindly tell me which option it is) or you misunderstood what I asked, I am confused now...
I was talking about having a Subreddit Changer in Toolbar next to Hamburger Button on Subreddit name that looks something like one in Boost for reddit for example.
Thanks!
I've set it as "Long press on the toolbar title", but what I am trying to do is a bit different, I want to show it up in single tap and not long press, also can I get rid of that search and only show up the Subreddits, that's exactly why I was giving example of Boost, Relay etc to make it clear. Thanks for your tip!
Also /u/ccrama
I love Better Open With for intelligent browser picking, but doesn't it still force you to pick your browser each time instead of setting preferences based on the referring app?
> for pre KitKat users without the ability to use external storage
I'm pretty sure accessing external storage was exactly like accessing internal storage pre-KitKat. Then in KitKat apps couldn't access anything other than their own folder (unless you were rooted and used something like SDFix), and then Lollipop added the new method for external storage access.
What I'm trying to say is that (if I'm not wrong) in order to allow external storage access, for pre-KitKat users you shouldn't have to do anything, there's nothing you can do for KitKat users, and for Lollipop and above you should be able to use the new method.
OK yeah they changed things since I last used it. I just installed again to see what I could find...
I have a solution, and it's actually easier than editing the link in the address bar. Since it has the share option, you can use the app Open Link With to get it to Chrome or a normal browser, which automatically loads the normal page when shared from Google News.
This app is one of the top essential apps in my opinion. It's small and simple. I use it all the time. The only thing you do is share something to "Open Link With" and it will give you a box to choose what browser to open with. It's also useful if say you get a YouTube link that loads in the browser and want it in the YouTube app. Share a YouTube link to Open Link With and you get all your browsers and YouTube apps. Or if your default browser doesn't load a page properly, you can use the share menu to send the page easily to another browser (like Chrome to Firefox). If the source has the share button, you can use it.
Try Screen'it. I have it installed on my phone for other apps--integrating this sorta thing into Slide is brilliant.
It's not for every link, it's more like once for youtube, once for twitter. I feel like I can't explain this well enough, but I can give you example apps that do this: Sync for reddit or the 4chan browser Clover.
Say I click on a Play Store link in Sync, it will ask if I want to open the link in Play Store or Chrome. I can select Play Store and click "Always", and all Play Store links that I click in Sync will now open in the Play Store app.
edit: this is also a native android feature, not something that these apps have created for their own use.
I'd like to extend this request a bit. I've recently been using the Phonograph Music Player app, mostly due to its color-customisability. I was wondering if it's possible for Slide to have something similar?
