New version is out of beta and available for anyone.
Official announcement: Boost for reddit 1.9.0 - Flair emojis, new awards, save favorite searches, highlight new comments, reply with secondary account, block users and a lot more!
Play store link: Boost for reddit
F-Droid may not be the right place. Assuming this is the right site for the app, then I don't see any link to source code or the particular FOSS license that would qualify it for inclusion.
Hopefully a companion extension that allows users to view the deleted comments and posts sort of like this app here
And larger cache would be great (for me at least)
Edit: also the ability to notified of a new post made to specific subs and the comments that may follow. This would be good for the smaller or lesser known subreddits
IIRC the often cited ToS clause says something along "Respect users that edit their posts", but getting your post removed by a moderator isn't an edit by you. Obviously, this is for the user ToS - many subreddits have rules against ceddit/removeddit and the API ToS can be completely different, and generally it's a grey area not worth risking implementing.
But, something like this would be better done by an external app/addon, something that hooks to the "share" functionality to grab the URL and redirect it to ceddit/removeddit/etc on the browser, as that way it's not bound by any Reddit ToS or API or anything and cannot get Boost revoked or blocked.
Which already exists, as the "Removeddit Pluging for Android".
While not implemented in Boost itself, you can download the Removeddit plugin that makes it easier to view removed posts. Just share the reddit link from the post to the app and it will open (instead of having to open a browser).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hibzz.removedditPluginAndroid
I dunno if it's doable with an app but if you're sufficiently knowledgeable about tech, you could set up a Pi-Hole (you can get an older Raspberry Pi from 15-20€) or a bare DNS yourself and customize entries there. I'd be down to help if you wanted! Just let me know
Just install this app on your device. After doing so, the next time whenever you search for something on Google and the reddit page opens in the browser, all you have to do is 'Share' that page with this app and then from the list of apps which appears in the next screen, select 'Boost'.
That's the best solution I've found yet.
Have you taken a look at Sync for Reddit?
If offline mode is important feature for you then I don't think Boost is the right solution for you.
The problem isn't with Boost.
I just tried it with WPD and after loading the subreddit in a browser I was signed into Reddit with, and accepting the warning message, I can now follow links or 'go to' the sub.
Tip, if you land in a quarantined sub and want to quickly accept the warning, open the sidebar of the empty sub and press the three dot menu, hit share subreddit and share it to Open Link With and finally use open with to load it in your browser.
>not the codeblock standard normally expected.
>Here's some fun. The documentation for old.reddit.com and the newer reddit.com have different methods.
That's because four spaces is the original Markdown specification for a code block, and (old) Reddit uses Markdown as the parser. Three backticks is an extension added in some other spec, most likely CommonMark.
Markdown is originally meant for making the text file just as readable as a parsed document. In that context, having code blocks start each line with four spaces is much cleaner and more understandable than three backticks.
I have a TCL 55K2A.
I used Es File explorer to make a copy of my Boost APK from my phone.
ES explorer is no longer on the play store so try this out :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ses.app.apkexport
Make sure Both your phone and the TV are on the same WiFi network then use this App to send the .APK to your TV:
Send to TV:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv
Use a file manager (I use ES file explorer here as well) on your TV to install the APK and you're done!
This is actually not possible to do generically in Android and it's not possible with Chrome as the browser at all. Google doesn't allow apps to open Chrome incognito tabs to a provided URL, citing "privacy concerns".
There's an app called Easy Open Link that you can share to and it lets you open the shared URL in a private tab if you have a browser that supports doing so directly. The browser list is something that had to be hardcoded though.
If you have Android you can put a lock on it through the OS.
Edit: there's an app that came stock on my Honor 6x, Phone Manager, which allows me to lock apps and clear memory. Here's an app on the Play Store that does it as well. But I suggest doing your own research, and find out what works best for you.
>This has been asked many times before, and it would violate the Reddit ToS, which is why it's not implemented in Boost. I recommend [removed] for reddit for viewing comments in removeddit.
No ads and bottom navigation are all that I know of. The ads didn't bother me and I would have been fine using the free version forever, but I just wanted to kick some instant cash the developer's way. I've owned sites that used Google Adsense and I know how few and far between the checks are.
I signed up for Google Opinion Rewards and I answer a few questions a month and make app and subscription fee money.
***NO I don't work for either. Just passing on a cool deal.
Your first link works but the second doesn't for me in 1.3.1 Android 7.1.1
My workaround is just long pressing the link and opening in Chromer
If anyone doesn't have access to this feature, this app gives you a really neat, customizable bubble that you can use to temporarily rotate the screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps&hl=en_US

Not a perfect solution, but you can force your navbar to be black (or any color you choose) in all cases. That's what I'm doing on my S9
If you get an app called Muzei, and then an addon called Muzei - Reddit, you can achieve the same thing. You can also autimatically blur or dim the photo, and there are multiple options for sources and refresh intervals. Just set Muzei as your lockscreen in settings.
Get Termux and install YouTube-dl
pkg install python pip install youtube-dl
Type youtube-dl , space, and paste the Reddit url with the v.reddit video
Edit: type cd /sdcard/Download or wherever you want to save the videos to first
I'd recommend checking out Universal Copy on the Google Play Store. It's a free app that allows you to enter "copy mode" which will allow you to copy any text on screen. I find it super useful, and have it bound to activate when long pressing the back key.
EDIT: Looks something like this when you activate copy mode.
Have a look at this app in the mean time.
I actually haven't tried it myself, but it seems to be perfect for the job.
Yeah, the code editor is what I'm gonna use from here on out. It gives syntax support too, so it's actually easier anyway. I'll just indent everything as you suggested before putting it into Reddit. I wasn't aware of the 4 space thing, but looking back, it makes sense.
Editor for Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.code
Exactly! Try the free 7day trial of ExpressVPN to see if VPN servers fix it for you. I don't know what else to recommend as I already tried n networks. Edit: I think somebody posted here that you can also change your DNS to cloud flare's and helps a bit.
The latest Android Versions already have this in settigns.
The privacy app is called Access Dots. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=you.in.spark.access.dots
It is possible that something else is accessing the camera and because I have Boost open at that moment, the privacy app makes an incorrect correlation.
I did a bit of testing just now. First I tested mic input with my keyboard while in Boost and the app logged it as Boost using the mic. Then I double tapped the side key while in Boost which launches the camera app and this was also logged as Boost using the camera. So now I'm not so sure it's actually Boost doing this.
I think something is taking a snapshot of my face every so often and I'm very annoyed by it.
I've done a lot of digging to try and get that accursed bar to stay black, but nothing without compromises.
They all suck for some reason or the other, so now I just use gestures.
I use this app to convert them. I select convert to mp4 (even if it's mp4 already). Then I send the new mp4 to Whatsapp and it works. It also helps with webm's from 4chan (they're sent without sound) by converting them into mp4's.
Yes, it's super useful! Makes it much easier to provide tech support! The app I use to screen record is AZ Screen Recorder <code>Play Store Link</code>, and then I upload the .mp4
file onto Gfycat.com using their app <code>Play Store Link</code>, and then get the link to that and put it in a comment :).
And as for karma, being upvoted gives karma. It's just like reputation or something, and isn't really a big deal on Reddit (though people can still get upset over it). And a hearty thanks was plenty, I appreciate it!
So something else you could try is going to your phone settings, then to your application manager (might just say apps), and pressing the menu to see the option for resetting default apps. You could then clear all of your browsers, Chrome, Boost, and others, and see if that fixes it.
Slide for reddit video plugin is what you are looking for. It works just as you describe and you do not need to have the base app installed.
I think that the issue might lie with-in the Android System WebView instead of with Boost for Reddit. In the meantime, you could use the Custom Tabs feature instead:
Settings > Advanced > Link handling > Default browser > Custom Tabs
Well I like to use VPNs as well, so I'm not using any of the ad blockers that tie up the VPN. The VPN I use (Mullvad) has dns ad blocking. So obviously that's not much help to you. I highly recommend it as a VPN of you decide you ever want one. I definitely prefer it over nord and windscribe and the other mainstream VPNs. In the meantime you might try something like Adguard from the play store.
So I set up this applet and clicked 'check now', but I get no notification.
https://ifttt.com/applets/235137p
I'll wait for an actual new post in the sub to see if it's working, but have I chosen the correct applet that works for you?
I do not know. I have tried many apps from the Play Store to see which one has the option to create surveys, and I found that in exchange for the official app, Monke for Reddit You also have the option to create polls. If Monke can do it, why not Boost? I think Monke uses the old Reddit API to be able to have this option
Haha, this is boost for reddit, a third party app, in subreddit for which you currently are. It's great, streets ahead of the official app.
Hmm believe it or not, I have installed almost all the Reddit clients from the Play Store to find one that has the option to create polls, and I found two apps; the official reddit app (obviously) y Monke for Reddit
Up from bottom is "home". You swipe from the edge inwards to go back.
Which then brings the issue of opening side drawers, which require either a diagonal swipe or a press-and-hold at the edge before swiping, both of which are clunky.
There are a few apps that used to allow you to customize the gestures, but they were broken with A11, namely they can't disable the stock nav bar anymore. So you need a custom rom that gives that ability without then also force-enabling the gesture navigation. If you do that, Fluid Navigation Gestures is still amazing.
Did you update to the latest version?
I won't do it, because I keep reading accounts of this happening. Currently running 1.6.0 with no problems. APK
There's an app for this, but Removeddit in general has been very flakey lately—as far as I can tell, if the comment was deleted within a few hours (maybe a day) of it being made, it won't be archived.
1) thanks for taking the time to record the video. It helps to see it though your purview.
2) in the video I don't actually ever see you open a post. I see the post flash like something is happening but it never opens the post. What action are you taking?
3) just to rule it out, there is a new version that is being tested that has a lot of updates. Go to the Boost Play Store listing and enable beta (scroll to the bottom)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit
After the update you'll be on 1.12.1
I use Tasker for this kind of thing.
The simplest way would be to an app context (trigger) set to the boost app and have the enter task turn off autorotate and the exit task turn it on again
I've used an app like this in the past.
Though Android has had a feature since Pie where it prompts you to rotate the phone rather than doing it automatically when it detects that it's been rotated.
If it doesn't get integrated directly, you can use this app, you just have to click share on any comment, select [removed] and after a moment you get the undeleted comment
consider this :
DontKillMyApp Benchmark checks your phone background processing to make apps on your phone work properly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.dontkillmyapp
The gallery app from my first screenshot isn't from an OEM though. I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro&hl=en_US&gl=US
I understand you saying there isn't a general API for it, so I'm guessing the developers of that app must've done something else on their end?
If you're on Android 8 or older, use this app or any of its alternatives. Android 9 and above has this feature built in
I use Sync for Reddit to remove posts and change the flair... May have to just bite the bullet and use Sync. But I don't want to because I like Boost.
Shouldn't have to keep swapping out though 🤷♂️
Not sure if it helps you.
I installed this - imgur viewer and most of the problems i faced with opening images and videos went away. It has its own cache, so even old images open in a second at full resolution.
Some videos take a few seconds to start but my internet connection is just around 600KBps max.
The pokemon screen is the current load screen for Pokemon Go and the color one is Fluid which I love and is super light on battery. Currently playing with a higher gamma added to the simulation and it's beautiful with AMOLED screens :)
This has been asked many times before, and it would violate the Reddit ToS, which is why it's not implemented in Boost. I recommend [removed] for reddit for viewing comments in removeddit.
I don't know how widely it's available, but Google Opinion Rewards is a very easy way to pay for Android apps by just taking surveys for Google. It's a great option if Google does offer it in your country. I haven't paid actually money for an app in many years.
It happens to me too but only for some videos. So what I do is I use this app to convert the video from mp4 to mp4. For some reason that creates a video that is shareable.
I know it's not a real solution and it's a bit of a hassle converting videos but since it only happens for a few videos with me, it's not a big deal.
I have the same issue. I end up using a video converter to convert the videos again.
Alternative I found recently is this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nicknam.vshareit
Share from boost to this app, and then another pop up comes in where you can share it again. This works for me
I still have the buttons near because I set my phone to behave as if it would have a larger screen, so everything is smaller, more things fit on the screen, and those buttons are nearer to the edge.
Your can try it out if you want by installing the app named terminal emulator with these commands: 1. wm density 2. wm density [value]
The first is to see what value do you have now, and with the second you set a new one. To achieve what I said you need to lower the number. For example, my original density is 320, and I have it changed to 230.
You need to do this after every reboot, or write a tasker script for it, there's also an app for that, Screen Shift, but it does it a bit differently and so requires root.
If you like the new sizes, we could ask the dev to make a setting to do this for the app - AIMP has a feature like that so it should be possible
Building it in is against the TOS of Reddit, so it cannot be done as they could revoke the API access of Boost rendering it completely useless.
However, if someone else were to make an app, of which the only function was to sit in your "share to" menu and take the link straight to removeddit, well... there's not much Reddit can do about that.
It seems to be the way boost handles reddit videos. I've downloaded videos using RiF and they contain sound. Idk if dev will fix this, but in the meantime you can use this as a workaround.

Wrong subreddit dude. Not sure if any of us can help
> Generally there is no room for that.
If that were the case, other apps wouldn't be able to do so.
> Everything will look ugly.
Not IME at all.
There are plenty of pics of Tweetings split screen mode on its Play Store page if you scroll far enough to the right.
Would make Boost that much more efficient on my TV & in Landscape mode.
Would love to have this feature as well. I downloaded another sketchy app on my phone just to have the feature for a recent flight. Would love to have it built-in to Boost with an option to clear the offline cache after 3 days or so if I forget to do it myself.
Till dev fix it, you can install fake camera app from play store and choose from camera and then it will open gallery for you.
I'm trying to get feedback for my app called Riptide for Reddit, which is not as old as some of the other apps. I'm still growing and developing! :)
One thing I think it does better is that it plays YouTube videos like the YouTube app with the ability to minimize.
Let me know what you think or if you have a feature request!

Thanks for letting me know.
I tried restarting my VPN (NordVPN) and weirdly enough it started working again. All gfycats seem to work now. That's weird though because I'm still not sure what's causing the problem exactly. Whenever I had that issue, I would just open it in Firefox and then it would load, so my VPN isn't categorically blocking gfycat.
>Pro Versions in the Store is just strange
Indeed, I think it's because I just bought the "Pro Key" for KWGT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget.pro&hl=en
I would also like this. In the meantime, you can install an app like Instapaper and just share links to it from Boost when you want to use a reader.
You can use the app Custom Navigation Bar to add a system-wide immersive mode button to your navbar. I have an invisible button on the left that hides the navigation bar.
If you install Brave browser and use chrome custom browser of brave browser in the link handling menu you will get an icon to disable ads. Hope this helps.
