IFTTT - If This Then That. It's a free platform that lets you connect just about any event or action to any other event, action, or app. So for example, if I want every new Tweet by my friend Bob to be saved to my Evernote, IFTTT can do that. If I want to get an email or text alert at 7am each morning if it's going to rain that day, IFTTT can do that.
I use it to get email alerts on all kinds of things, to save all kinds of things, and to connect tons of apps on my phone and desktop to other apps. It's really, really useful.

I'm seeing a bunch of existing "recipes" for that. I don't use any of the location-based applets currently, but have used them a lot in the past.

Here are some of the active applets on my IFTTT account:
- RSS feed to Email - sends me an email (some weekly, some daily) with new RSS items from various sites. I use this for weekly digests from sites I like, comics, blogs, etc.
- Add my receipts to a Google Spreadsheet - any time I get an email with “Receipt” in the subject, it will automatically be added to my spreadsheet. This is great for keeping track of online purchases.
- Email journal entries - I can email myself with the subject “Journal” and IFTTT will automatically add it to my journal app.
- Dropbox to Tumblr - If I upload an photo to a Dropbox folder, IFTTT will create a new Tumblr post with it.
- Notify me in the morning if it will rain today.

This is definitely disappointing news, Nest has been a great partner and their services have provided a lot of value to their users through IFTTT. We get where Google's coming from, smart device security is something people are starting to pay more attention to as it becomes more and more mainstream. It's an area where it could certainly become a bigger problem if the ecosystems don't scale with that in mind. Still, this definitely isn't news that anyone wanted to hear (including us).
We believe that every thing works better together and there's lots of other services that feel similarly with more being added all the time. We intend to move forward with our vision to make the world a more connected place, Nest or no Nest. 🙂

There's a great IFTTT recipe that does this anytime there a new top post in this sub. I have been using it for sometime and it is pretty cool to have some new, random, beautiful place show up every couple of hours

I've posted this before, in another story, but it was a bit late and didn't get much attention, so I figured I'd put it up again. It is an IFTTT recipe that will send you an SMS whenever /u/Alistair9000 posts to FPS. The mighty Beetusbot and his orangereds are all well and good, but sometimes I have the audacity to attempt to do more then sit on reddit all day, and am late to a story. This helps fix that.

The primary feature of the app isn't to set a background wallpaper on your phone. It's intended to be used as a 'if this, then do that' app which basically gives it an endless list of things that it can do. You can find loads of recipes for iOS here, if you'd like.

What is stopping me using this, to create a playlist, and then editing it to only 50 songs each few days and then claiming it as a "I created this program and here is the playlist"?
I have both. I prefer Spotify over Apple Music to find new songs and artists. I personally think Apple really lacks in that department. But if you need help transferring items from iTunes to Spotify, there are applets that will do that such thing. You just have too look. Try looking through https://ifttt.com.
My Discover Weekly is usually on point. Sometimes I forget to star or move a track over to a saved playlist. I now have a IFTTT script that saves all tracks to a playlist so I don’t miss a beat.

Here's the website: http://www.meethue.com/en-US Basically, you plug a little base station in to your router and then the lights communicate with that. Then when you're on your network you can do all kinds of crazy set ups. What's really cool is when you can create one side of the room as totally red and the other side as totally blue (or something similar).
If you really want to get crazy with it, check out https://ifttt.com/ You can set up all kinds of automated triggers for your lights. For example:
- your team scores a goal -> lights turn red
- it starts raining -> lights turn blue (hooked up to a weather feed)
- get an email -> one light turns red etc etc
For this build, I used:

IFTTT.com is the main integrator between the Echo and all the other systems except for the lights (they integrate with the echo out of the box). The dead giveaway is that if I say “Trigger” as part of my voice command, it’s activating an IFTTT recipe/workflow. Basically, IFTTT add takes an input from action, in this case, a voice command from the echo, and kicks off a predefined workflow.
The setup isn’t too bad, the biggest annoyance is adding each of the services logins to each other. Here are the steps I took from a VERY high level
- Create Echo Account
- Create Nest Account
- Create Philips Hue Account
- Add Hue account to Echo
- Create Harmony Account
- Add Home entertainment devices to harmony account and add predefined activities (use chromecase, watch tv, play ps4, etc.
- Add Philips Hue account to Harmony
- Add Nest account to Harmony
- Create IFTTT account
- Add Harmony Account to IFTTT
- Add Nest Account to IFTTT
- Add Hue Account to IFTTT
- Add Echo account to IFTTT

IFTTT and a bunch of similar apps are out there that allow you to schedule tasks based on your GPS location. You could set a job to send a text when you leave the office every night very very easily.
No tracking. No need for you to check up on him. The same text he would write by hand just automated.

Our mini is in the kitchen, and by far the thing we use the most is adding a task to Wunderlist. I used this IFTTT applet.
We have it set so we just say "Hey Google, we need carrots" and it gets added to our shared grocery list.

Here's some stuff I've done with IFTTT:
- syncing Dropbox with Google Drive, or autodownload Gmail attachments to one of those services: it's a backup of a backup
- Emailing me with a link when something I put in my Dropbox public folder is finished uploading, so I can send the link to the person I want to share the file with
- Put every article from an RSS feed into Pocket
If you look on the IFTTT site there's lots of stuff to do with connected devices like Hue lightbulbs or smoke detectors or fitness trackers. You can also trigger quite complex things with SMS messages which can be handy.
There's a Reddit channel so you can get pinged when something specific happens, like your favourite movie star does an AMA.
my suggestion: there's probably a way to use IFTTT and garmin/fitbit/strava to have an automatic tweet come out every time you complete a workout with a tweet saying "just did a [exercise type] workout!".
Once she sets it up, she only has to remember to log the workouts in her app, and it will automatically get tweeted to the world! for extra privacy she can include a delay so people don't try and work out her schedule.
Requires no effort at all and if she uses a special twitter account dedicated to the workout, it'd be really motivating to see the tweets pile up.
Of course, if she wanted to go all out and provide metrics, the tweets could provide all the details - but I know that's not who she is.
Looks like the little bit left in the back (that’s still green) is alive, everything else is dead. Succulents do not do well with frost and the leaves that have frozen will not recover. That little bit left, however, has a 15 year root system that should come back well.

Use an Activator gesture to send an SMS using Programmable SMS to an IFTTT applet that gives you a call.
I work at IFTTT and I read this subreddit all the time! We're not too big of a team, just around 30 at the moment. We don't have a public list of upcoming Channels, but the best way to let us know what Channels you want is by submitting them at this link.
While that would be great, it isn't really what Google Home is supposed to be doing. It's mainly there to use other services, not provide services on it's own. Or in other words; MFP would be the one to support this, not Google Home. Iirc MFP isn't working with basically anything in that direction, not even via IFTTT.
There are several services you can use via IFTTT to log weight and such tho, MFP just isn't supporting it yet.

I've found that using IFTTT to scour Craigslist for me is the best solution for this.
Just setup keyword based searches and it'll email you within ~30 minutes of posting on Craigslist.
Snagged an enclosed server rack using this method for $130.

I use it to hunt for M.2 SSD deals.

It's too late to save past playlists—you have to go through each one before next Monday comes around or they disappear. Neither I nor the friend of mine who recommended Worm to me use either Facebook or Twitter.
I'd much rather that the new site incorporate a simple subscription feature; it's a relatively simple feature to add. And afterwards, it's easier for Wildbow than having to remember to post updates in more than one place. And as it actually is still powered by Wordpress (look at the very bottom of the website), whatever was used for Worm can probably be used again.

I have an If This Then That recipe that texts me "Open your window." when the weather is below 71 degrees and it also texts me "Shut your window." when it is above 73 degrees.
There is a lot of cool things you can do with that website that also work with a lot of social media.

When Google Home says something along the lines of "...yet", it usually means they will be adding it down the line, but thats no reason to stop you from creating it yourself!
Google Home supports IFTTT. I actually bought a smart bulb just because of that reason. Here is a step by step guide:
- Go to https://ifttt.com and register/login.
- On the top menu next to Discover and Search click My Applets.
- On the right hand side you should see a button that says New Applet, or just click here https://ifttt.com/create
- IF (Google Assistant) then (Google Calendar) is what we are aiming for.
- Click the blue This button and search for Google Assistant. Once found select a trigger, the trigger for this setup will be "Say a phrase with a text ingredient". An ingredient is a value that we will use in the THAT part of IFTTT (Google Calendar).
- Hey Google and Ok Google are the wake up words, what follows next is what you need to write, so What do you want to say?
- I'd put "calendar this $", "add to calendar $", "create calendar entry $" for all 3 "what do you want to say" fields, and the optional ones.
- What do you want the Assistant to say in response? This is up to you, i'll put "Ok, adding $"
- Press Create Trigger and move on to the blue THAT button and search for Google Calendar.
- Once you have connected your google account to IFTTT you should be able to add a quick event. All you have to do is select Quick Add Event. Quick Add Event reads the text and translates it to what you want, it knows to pick out a date and time out of the line of speech you spoke.
- Erase the CreatedAt part "{{CreatedAt}}" and just leave the TextField part. Press Finish after all of this is done.

whenever i post on instagram, i use:
- this to post my instagram post natively on twitter (instead of as a link to instagram) so that my twitter feed is full of pretty, native photos
- and this to post my instagram post to linkedin, because the instagram app doesn't have native functionality to post to linkedin
bonus: i use this one to automatically post tweets from twitter -> linkedin but only if i include the hashtag #boop.
mileage may vary, i built the above system to help with my personal posting at no cost with easy/free tech. for business i use enterprise apps like gain/etc because of the need for multiple layers of approvals, clients approvals, etc.
Wow...it's silly I forgot about it, but you're right! The orange flashing is coming from IFTTT! I guess with the whole "original LIFX lights flashing red/orange" mentioned in the help section, I assumed LIFX Mini Color would do similar things, but this was something I set up to happen! TMK, there are no consumer HA-friendly radon monitors.
Airthings use BLE, only works with the official App & Airthings Dashboard. No public API, but some IFTTT support.
Radon Eye RD200 is also Bluetooth, though they recently came out with a cloud-tethered WiFi version, no local access only via the Internet website, no public API.

I use IFTTT on iOS, they have it for Android too. It's a really cool app that can do a lot of stuff but I set it up to notify me whenever there is a new post on /r/freebies. A quick little push notification for each new post. I would definitely recommend it for this as well as its many other uses!
I also set it to send me an email every time there is a new post in /r/gamedeals that's marked "free", which has scored me a few cool games!

IFTTT. Get the app and change this recipe to /r/awwnime instead of /r/wallpapers. I also have it save posts to a Dropbox folder in case I want to go back to a particular picture I liked.

IFTTT + Pushbullet is a great way to go too. Whenever there is a new story I receive a notification with a link on both my Android phone and Chrome on my desktop.

I just typed this up for you, and whoever else wants it:
1) Open Activator, select Anywhere, and tap Edit.
2) Select Recieved Message. In the message field type "NIGHTMODE.ON" Save it.
3) Create another Recieved Message and in the message field type "NIGHTMODE.OFF" Save it.
4) Tap on Done.
5) Scroll down and select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.ON in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Activate' switch (located under the Switches (Activate) category.)
6) Next, select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.OFF in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Deactivate' switch (located under the Switches (Deactivate) category.)
Included in the sunrise/sunset text messages will be the low/high temperatures for the day.

Any time you save a post on Reddit, it sends a transcript of that post to your e-mail.
I'm not sure how useful this will be to others, but it will help me a ton. I save posts and constantly forget all about them by the time I'm available to read them.

By the way, I was playing around with IFTTT (a free app/service), and it looks like you can use that to pop up a notification on your phone when I make a new post. Create a new RSS applet and use this as the feed URL: https://www.reddit.com/r/kotor/.rss Then for the "keyword or simple phrase" put "KOTOR 1 Experience".
You can pick whatever "then" part you want, but if you want a notification on your phone choose the "Rich Notification", put {{EntryTitle}} as the Message, and {{EntryURL}} as the Link URL. Install the IFTTT app on your phone. Now when I post an episode you should get a popup from the IFTTT app, and if you click the notice you should be taken to my post on Reddit.
Full story; I'm trying to connect my LG Smart Thinq washing machine to IFTTT. But when I try to connect I get "Device does not match region settings. Change region settings." I'm in Australia and the URL is us.m.lgaccount.com. Even using a VPN or changing to au doesn't let me through. I can use the Smart Thinq app, but I want to do more.
I was reconnected with Micel who wasn't any more help.

You guys shoud try the IFTTT app. There are lots of applets available to reddit! My personal favorites are the push notification for smaller subs and the daily email update i use for r/kpop.

You can't do it in spotify natively but you can do it with iFttt. I have an iFttt reciepe that takes every song I add to my library and adds to a another list I made called started.
This allows me to simply add any song I am interested in to my library and then iFttt does the work for me. I can then review that list later and decide what to do with those songs...
