IFTTT - If This Then That. It's a free platform that lets you connect just about any event or action to any other event, action, or app. So for example, if I want every new Tweet by my friend Bob to be saved to my Evernote, IFTTT can do that. If I want to get an email or text alert at 7am each morning if it's going to rain that day, IFTTT can do that.
I use it to get email alerts on all kinds of things, to save all kinds of things, and to connect tons of apps on my phone and desktop to other apps. It's really, really useful.
Haha. If your friend uses an IFTTT recipe to change his background, I'm sure he got it, cause I also got it. x)
Edit: Here is the recipe
>switch from data to wifi when I get home
I'm seeing a bunch of existing "recipes" for that. I don't use any of the location-based applets currently, but have used them a lot in the past.

Here are some of the active applets on my IFTTT account:
Why do I feel bad for laughing?
Edit: Annnnd now it's my wallpaper
Edit 2: If anyone is interested, I created an IFTTT for a new patrick wallpaper from /r/pictureswithpatrick every time they have a new top post. https://ifttt.com/recipes/316294-r-pictureswithpatrick-wallpaper
I got you
^^^So, ^^^about ^^^that ^^^$20....
Not the same, but another interesting thing is to use an IFTTT applet to keep an eye out for premium apps that go free.
https://ifttt.com/applets/68211692d-get-notified-when-a-top-app-becomes-free-in-the-apple-app-store
I use a IFTTT macro that updates my phone's wallpaper every time there's a new hot post on r/earthporn
Edit: this is the macro. I think you can get a version for iOS but I don't know how locked down the Apple software is.
https://ifttt.com/applets/HviycJZ9
And for the record, you can edit this or make a new one to pull from the MET and other site regularly.
https://ifttt.com/ is also a way to do it.
Edit: So Relemsis below me figure out how to apply this website for however you guys are asking.
"Ok, just got it. You set up the search on Google Alerts, have it show whatever, and then you create a "feed" and then you put that feed into ifttt as the if statement and put gmail as the then statement and have it delivered to your G-mail."
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
Create some IFTTT craigslist alerts for those types of tires and rims being sold in your area.
If it's happening on a regular basis they've gotta be selling them somewhere nearby.
Some examples:
Of course, nothing will be directly available. Developers need to build these connections and the API sets up the framework for this.

Tweaked a recipe on IFTTT to give traffic alters through push notifications in New Delhi using delhi traffic police’s twitter handle. Replace keyword search with Alert and feed url with https://twitrss.me/twitter_user_to_rss/?user=Dtptraffic+
Below is the original one. Make the changes as mentioned above.
Notify me if N train is delayed https://ifttt.com/applets/222397p
Use IFTTT to run an applet that checks this sub for you. It’s super easy to setup. Drops a notification on my phone within seconds of the deal posting.

Here's the RSS feed for hobojet http://hobojet.com/feed/
Here's an IFTTT that can email you when keywords in an RSS feed appear, so you can be notified by email when your city shows up https://ifttt.com/recipes/2538-rss-keyword-email-alert
Use IFTTT to get notified as soon as a new story comes out!
RSS feed: http://www.reddit.com/user/airz23/submitted/.rss
From there, choose which alert method you want to use (SMS, email, etc).
Have fun!
ie: I receive the following message by SMS everytime airz23 is posting (shared the recipe)
> Rejoice! New post from /u/airz23 on TFTS!
EDIT: Thank you whoever gave me some gold!
This is definitely disappointing news, Nest has been a great partner and their services have provided a lot of value to their users through IFTTT. We get where Google's coming from, smart device security is something people are starting to pay more attention to as it becomes more and more mainstream. It's an area where it could certainly become a bigger problem if the ecosystems don't scale with that in mind. Still, this definitely isn't news that anyone wanted to hear (including us).
We believe that every thing works better together and there's lots of other services that feel similarly with more being added all the time. We intend to move forward with our vision to make the world a more connected place, Nest or no Nest. 🙂
You have to ask him again.
But seriously, first you have to download the IFTTT app, and the use the correct recipe, I think this is the 'recipe' he's talking about
There's a great IFTTT recipe that does this anytime there a new top post in this sub. I have been using it for sometime and it is pretty cool to have some new, random, beautiful place show up every couple of hours
Edit: clarifying that this is for Android. Not sure if there's one for iPhone.
I've posted this before, in another story, but it was a bit late and didn't get much attention, so I figured I'd put it up again. It is an IFTTT recipe that will send you an SMS whenever /u/Alistair9000 posts to FPS. The mighty Beetusbot and his orangereds are all well and good, but sometimes I have the audacity to attempt to do more then sit on reddit all day, and am late to a story. This helps fix that.
Thanks for doing these! I made an IFTTT recipe to send a notification when you post a new one - grab it here.
There's only one logical next step.
Turn on all Hue lights in your home to that particular shade of purple whenever Dan starts streaming.
Because Apple has a lot of restrictions, compared to Android where you can modify and change almost anything if you'd like.
The primary feature of the app isn't to set a background wallpaper on your phone. It's intended to be used as a 'if this, then do that' app which basically gives it an endless list of things that it can do. You can find loads of recipes for iOS here, if you'd like.
I've made an IFTTT recipe for this. It notifies you by email whenever a new post is made on this subreddit. You can set it up with your email here.
We wanted to make sure all of your reddit folks knew about some IFTTT recipes which plug in OneNote & reddit together: https://ifttt.com/recipes/150458-save-upvoted-reddits-to-onenote Please try it out! -James
So I have IFTTT set up to send me a notification for when something named Civ V AI Only World Domination is posted to this subreddit. It sent one. I was so excited.
Please continue this soon. I've already begun to get sick, and I fear the hype may kill me.
My favorite and most used recipe: Pushbullet notifications for Paranoid Android Google+ posts You'll have to add PA (or your favorite ROM developer) to a new circle on G+ and enable email notifications for that circle.
Notify me when a kernel update is available. This recipe is set for Franco's Nexus 5 kernel. Modify it to suit your needs.
Not trying to diss your program or claim lack of validity, but wouldn't mind seeing this 'program'? As u/tofu89 said, more interested in the github than the Spotify link. There has been an app / online tool that has been doing this for all top posts on r/listentothis , for quite some time. Just download "IFTTT" and sub to this: https://ifttt.com/applets/321850p-add-top-posts-from-the-reddit-r-listentothis-subreddit-to-a-spotify-playlist
What is stopping me using this, to create a playlist, and then editing it to only 50 songs each few days and then claiming it as a "I created this program and here is the playlist"?
I have both. I prefer Spotify over Apple Music to find new songs and artists. I personally think Apple really lacks in that department. But if you need help transferring items from iTunes to Spotify, there are applets that will do that such thing. You just have too look. Try looking through https://ifttt.com.
My Discover Weekly is usually on point. Sometimes I forget to star or move a track over to a saved playlist. I now have a IFTTT script that saves all tracks to a playlist so I don’t miss a beat.
Edit: Since some may be interested the IFTTT Applet
I love these so much! (I created an IFTTT trigger to alert when these are posted.) Thank you for posting these, /u/ChrysWatchesGot!
Here's the website: http://www.meethue.com/en-US Basically, you plug a little base station in to your router and then the lights communicate with that. Then when you're on your network you can do all kinds of crazy set ups. What's really cool is when you can create one side of the room as totally red and the other side as totally blue (or something similar).
If you really want to get crazy with it, check out https://ifttt.com/ You can set up all kinds of automated triggers for your lights. For example:
For this build, I used:
IFTTT.com is the main integrator between the Echo and all the other systems except for the lights (they integrate with the echo out of the box). The dead giveaway is that if I say “Trigger” as part of my voice command, it’s activating an IFTTT recipe/workflow. Basically, IFTTT add takes an input from action, in this case, a voice command from the echo, and kicks off a predefined workflow.
The setup isn’t too bad, the biggest annoyance is adding each of the services logins to each other. Here are the steps I took from a VERY high level
Happy to go into more detail if you want.
.... Yes you can.
IFTTT and a bunch of similar apps are out there that allow you to schedule tasks based on your GPS location. You could set a job to send a text when you leave the office every night very very easily.
No tracking. No need for you to check up on him. The same text he would write by hand just automated.
If you use IFTTT, you might be interested in this. It's a recipe I created to text you whenever /u/Gambatte posts something in /r/talesfromtechsupport.
This. Think like smart fridges and lightbulbs and stuff.
Somewhat related if you already have a bunch of that kind of stuff this is a good site for getting them to talk to each other: https://ifttt.com/
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
What is this filter you're using? I think you're over complicating it.
Completely delete this applet and start again.
Go to: https://ifttt.com/applets/GutUrxFv-take-on-the-1p-savings-challenge
Make sure your Monzo is properly linked to the correct account.
Turn on the applet, select the correct pot and click save.
let me know how you get on.
Our mini is in the kitchen, and by far the thing we use the most is adding a task to Wunderlist. I used this IFTTT applet.
We have it set so we just say "Hey Google, we need carrots" and it gets added to our shared grocery list.
I was wondering wtf was my wallpaper as I thought it was a regular christmas wallpaper. (I use IFTTT that automatically changes my phone wallpaper to whatever is on hot page.)
Edit:* I'm pleased you guys like IFTTT, here is the following applet for the changing wallpaper: https://ifttt.com/applets/161614p
Here's some stuff I've done with IFTTT:
If you look on the IFTTT site there's lots of stuff to do with connected devices like Hue lightbulbs or smoke detectors or fitness trackers. You can also trigger quite complex things with SMS messages which can be handy.
There's a Reddit channel so you can get pinged when something specific happens, like your favourite movie star does an AMA.
my suggestion: there's probably a way to use IFTTT and garmin/fitbit/strava to have an automatic tweet come out every time you complete a workout with a tweet saying "just did a [exercise type] workout!".
Once she sets it up, she only has to remember to log the workouts in her app, and it will automatically get tweeted to the world! for extra privacy she can include a delay so people don't try and work out her schedule.
Requires no effort at all and if she uses a special twitter account dedicated to the workout, it'd be really motivating to see the tweets pile up.
Of course, if she wanted to go all out and provide metrics, the tweets could provide all the details - but I know that's not who she is.
Looks like the little bit left in the back (that’s still green) is alive, everything else is dead. Succulents do not do well with frost and the leaves that have frozen will not recover. That little bit left, however, has a 15 year root system that should come back well.
I use an app that emails or texts me when it’s going to freeze so I can bring my plants inside.
Here's an IFTTT recipe that sends you a text each time the good captain posts a story. For those of us who enjoy his stories as much as I do :)
Here's an IFTTT recipe that will send you an email for the next one in case you get tired of waiting. You can also tweak it to send an SMS to your phone.
Here, this might help! I've started creating IFTTT alerts for my favorite authors on Reddit, and /u/airz23 is now officially a member of that elite group.
You can set up IFTTT to do this for you. (It's free, I use it to automate quite a bit of things for myself.) Here is a link to the recipe you would need for new post notifications https://ifttt.com/applets/235137p-reddit-new-posts-in-subreddit-notification
Use an Activator gesture to send an SMS using Programmable SMS to an IFTTT applet that gives you a call.
I work at IFTTT and I read this subreddit all the time! We're not too big of a team, just around 30 at the moment. We don't have a public list of upcoming Channels, but the best way to let us know what Channels you want is by submitting them at this link.
While that would be great, it isn't really what Google Home is supposed to be doing. It's mainly there to use other services, not provide services on it's own. Or in other words; MFP would be the one to support this, not Google Home. Iirc MFP isn't working with basically anything in that direction, not even via IFTTT.
There are several services you can use via IFTTT to log weight and such tho, MFP just isn't supporting it yet.
Great find!
I've found that using IFTTT to scour Craigslist for me is the best solution for this.
Just setup keyword based searches and it'll email you within ~30 minutes of posting on Craigslist.
Snagged an enclosed server rack using this method for $130.
I'm not drinking today!
For anyone interested /u/offtherocks made an amazing IFTTT Recipe that sends you a text when the daily check-in is posted! Pretty slick!
I just set up a series of these and prefer android notifications to email. An example of that is this.
Awesome idea tho!
This was the first post created using something I made in IFTTT. All Polygon YouTube videos will post automatically to this subreddit now. Let me know if you don't like this! Or maybe it should be a generic account instead of my personal one. It seemed like a win-win-win to get folks to see and engage with the #content!
Here's an IFTTT 'applet' that notifies you on your phone when a certain word appears in the title of any post on whatever subreddit you define.
I use it to hunt for M.2 SSD deals.
Just modify the formula with what words and subreddit you're looking for.
When you are sharing things on Twitter, you can use the script I made, https://ifttt.com/recipes/389874-automatic-bernie-retweeter
This automatically retweets everything that Bernie tweets out! Yay!
Also, this (link to tos):
>You are responsible for all of your activity in connection with the Service and accessing the Site. You may not use the Site or the Service:
>(vii) to sell, lease, share, transfer, or sublicense the Service or derive income from the use of the Service in conjunction with IFTTT APIs or other web services, whether for direct commercial or monetary gain or otherwise, without IFTTT's prior, express, written permission;
So...Plan on them blocking your access to the service eventually and dealing with the multitude of headaches that come with it.
What's the idea though? Hit me in a PM or email () if you like! I might be able to provide some guidance...APIs and data mining are my bread and butter. And generally speaking - there's an open source library that's almost plug and play for every service that IFTTT integrates with. I'm also way too freaking busy to steal your idea!
It's too late to save past playlists—you have to go through each one before next Monday comes around or they disappear. In the future, though, try out this DW archive if you want to save your playlists from now on. Or just stay on top of the release schedule and make sure you save the songs you like before the new playlist comes out.
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
They all appear to be moronic gimmicks too. "Transfer x% of my weekly pay" would have been vastly more useful than "transfer money when I post on Instagram"... ugh.
If you are open to scouring Reddit or other corners of the internet, you can often find great deals on lightly used, only tried on, and NWT bras. I’ve gotten some NWT and unworn bras for as low as $5 plus shipping.
Some good places to try on Reddit include /r/randomactsofbras and /r/braswap . You can also check the listings section of Bratabase.com.
I made an IFTTT recipe to automatically notify when a bra is listed on Reddit. you can clone it and change the parameters to suit what fits you. Check it out:
New bras in your size on /r/braswap https://ifttt.com/applets/433432p
Find bras in your size for free on Reddit's r/RandomActsOfBras https://ifttt.com/applets/433359p
Don’t despair. Happy hunting!
Neither I nor the friend of mine who recommended Worm to me use either Facebook or Twitter.
I'd much rather that the new site incorporate a simple subscription feature; it's a relatively simple feature to add. And afterwards, it's easier for Wildbow than having to remember to post updates in more than one place. And as it actually is still powered by Wordpress (look at the very bottom of the website), whatever was used for Worm can probably be used again.
If you want email updates, If This, Then That has a RSS-to-email tool.
I have an If This Then That recipe that texts me "Open your window." when the weather is below 71 degrees and it also texts me "Shut your window." when it is above 73 degrees.
There is a lot of cool things you can do with that website that also work with a lot of social media.
If this then that. It’s an app that automates actions based on different criteria you set up
“If there’s a new airdyne ad on Craigslist, then turn my Phillips hue lights red and email my mom.” Or something like that
When Google Home says something along the lines of "...yet", it usually means they will be adding it down the line, but thats no reason to stop you from creating it yourself!
Google Home supports IFTTT. I actually bought a smart bulb just because of that reason. Here is a step by step guide:
"Hey Google, add to calendar, January 2 going to the casino". http://i.imgur.com/c76ubM8.png
IFTTT is If This Then That.
It lets you connect various web services together using "recipes."
Here's one I use that emails me when there's a hit on a Craigslist search:
https://ifttt.com/recipes/79-get-notified-of-new-craigslist-posts
You could make a similar one that sends you a SMS
I love this IFTTT recipe that /u/offtherocks made so I know when the check in is posted! Off to a show/fundraiser tonight which will be very fun, and the first time I've been there sober in the six years it's been running! Certainly won't be drinking!
You need to integrate with IFTTT!
I would love to be able to fire off notifications or events based on how many times I logged an item.
If I log 30 cups of coffee then call the paramedics! haha
If I log 12 beers then call an Uber cab to my location
If I log being upset more than three times a day then send me a notification with a random happy quote!
Can anyone think of some other fun ones? haha
Try IFTTT, there's a recipe close to what you're looking for. Grab a friends phone, send a specific text, your phone's ring volume is on max, then just call the phone. https://ifttt.com/recipes/278245-need-to-find-your-phone-text-findme-to-your-number-and-boost-your-ringing-to-max
If you are going to make the lights red in your living room, may as well create the "If my lights turn red, set the thermostat to 100F" recipe in the event you are sleeping or something.
Here's what you do:
FYI, I found out so quickly about this by using If This Then That.
Search for Steam and there's a recipe that emails you as soon as a game goes free on Steam.
Search for gaming and there's recipes that sends you Steam keys when there's a giveaway happening somewhere on the internet.
You could probably set up an IFTT action to copy those photos to Dropbox. If you have Dropbox installed on your computer, you could point your screensaver settings to that folder. https://ifttt.com/flickr
You'd want to clean it out every once in a while or use the program Hazel to do it automatically.
Total stranger jumping in, but you can use IFTTT to receive an email whenever a free steam game is posted here: https://ifttt.com/applets/PFpyfCUg-mail-me-free-games-with-steam-keys-posted-to-r-gamedeals
for me, it helps me with personal social media automation tasks
whenever i post on instagram, i use:
bonus: i use this one to automatically post tweets from twitter -> linkedin but only if i include the hashtag #boop.
mileage may vary, i built the above system to help with my personal posting at no cost with easy/free tech. for business i use enterprise apps like gain/etc because of the need for multiple layers of approvals, clients approvals, etc.
Wow...it's silly I forgot about it, but you're right! The orange flashing is coming from IFTTT! I guess with the whole "original LIFX lights flashing red/orange" mentioned in the help section, I assumed LIFX Mini Color would do similar things, but this was something I set up to happen! Thanks for helping, though!
To be precise, it was this applet. Well, I feel a bit embarrassed now...
TMK, there are no consumer HA-friendly radon monitors.
Airthings use BLE, only works with the official App & Airthings Dashboard. No public API, but some IFTTT support.
Radon Eye RD200 is also Bluetooth, though they recently came out with a cloud-tethered WiFi version, no local access only via the Internet website, no public API.
You can use IFTTT (If This Then That)
You can create a trigger for either
So just set your phone up to automatically save contacts to one of those
Then create the IFTTT with the trigger of new contact and the result as either write the contact to a Google sheets or something else.
It is a combination of 2 elements:
1, Using IFTTT to script an applet using webhooks. https://ifttt.com
2, The webhook should point to grapeot.me https://grapeot.me/adding-a-delay-to-ifttt-recipes.html
I have been using this method for months, and it works well.
Ordered, and now I'm excited.
edit: looks like it's out - to anyone who missed it, consider using ifttt to push you a notification when sales happen, you don't have to check five times a day anymore - that's how I got the deal.
I use IFTTT on iOS, they have it for Android too. It's a really cool app that can do a lot of stuff but I set it up to notify me whenever there is a new post on /r/freebies. A quick little push notification for each new post. I would definitely recommend it for this as well as its many other uses!
I also set it to send me an email every time there is a new post in /r/gamedeals that's marked "free", which has scored me a few cool games!
"If This Then That" is what you're looking for:
If there are any new league transactions, it will send an alert to your e-mail/phone. Here is the "recipe" I published:
https://ifttt.com/recipes/325244-fantasy-football-transaction-alert
IFTTT. Get the app and change this recipe to /r/awwnime instead of /r/wallpapers. I also have it save posts to a Dropbox folder in case I want to go back to a particular picture I liked.
edit: The IF app, not the DO app.
edit 2: Here's the actual recipe I'm using: https://ifttt.com/recipes/282622-cute-anime-wallpapers
EDIT: DISREGARD I SUCK COCKS. Unless you wanted to install Pushbullet. In that case, proceed to step one.
Download app
get chrome extension
create account for IFTTT website https://ifttt.com
browse recipes
get the hang of how it works
???
profit.
IFTTT + Pushbullet is a great way to go too. Whenever there is a new story I receive a notification with a link on both my Android phone and Chrome on my desktop.
Edit: The recipe: https://ifttt.com/recipes/184678-more-airz23-goodness (You will need to install Pushbullet on your devices/desktop browser and you may need to activate the Pushbullet channel on IFTTT.)
I just typed this up for you, and whoever else wants it:
1) Open Activator, select Anywhere, and tap Edit.
2) Select Recieved Message. In the message field type "NIGHTMODE.ON" Save it.
3) Create another Recieved Message and in the message field type "NIGHTMODE.OFF" Save it.
4) Tap on Done.
5) Scroll down and select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.ON in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Activate' switch (located under the Switches (Activate) category.)
6) Next, select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.OFF in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Deactivate' switch (located under the Switches (Deactivate) category.)
Included in the sunrise/sunset text messages will be the low/high temperatures for the day.

Guess I'll go for most useful?
https://ifttt.com/recipes/145280
Any time you save a post on Reddit, it sends a transcript of that post to your e-mail.
I'm not sure how useful this will be to others, but it will help me a ton. I save posts and constantly forget all about them by the time I'm available to read them.
Thank you for the gold :)
Someone here previously showed me using the app/site IFTTT and using this applet:
Get a notification when the price changes on a Best Buy product https://ifttt.com/applets/201085p
I set up 2 alerts for the 8 and 10 TB SKU’s (6278208 & 5792401).
It alerts when the prices goes up/down
Friday next week at exactly 5:43 AM Eastern.
No, seriously, it'll drop when it drops. 😝 Looks like I've been averaging a little less than two weeks between episodes lately. I wanna do it sooner, but you know, life.
By the way, I was playing around with IFTTT (a free app/service), and it looks like you can use that to pop up a notification on your phone when I make a new post. Create a new RSS applet and use this as the feed URL: https://www.reddit.com/r/kotor/.rss Then for the "keyword or simple phrase" put "KOTOR 1 Experience".
You can pick whatever "then" part you want, but if you want a notification on your phone choose the "Rich Notification", put {{EntryTitle}} as the Message, and {{EntryURL}} as the Link URL. Install the IFTTT app on your phone. Now when I post an episode you should get a popup from the IFTTT app, and if you click the notice you should be taken to my post on Reddit.
Full story; I'm trying to connect my LG Smart Thinq washing machine to IFTTT. But when I try to connect I get "Device does not match region settings. Change region settings." I'm in Australia and the URL is us.m.lgaccount.com. Even using a VPN or changing to au doesn't let me through. I can use the Smart Thinq app, but I want to do more.
I was reconnected with Micel who wasn't any more help.
>Micel: What do you mean by IFTTT?
>
>Dylan: If This Than That. It's a service that connects smart things. LG does have a service with them https://ifttt.com/lg_washer
>
>Micel: I apologise for the inconvenience it may have caused you. It is not available in Australia. What you can use is LG Smart ThinQ application.
>
>Dylan: Is there any work to make it available in other regions? Yes, I have that setup. But I was looking at doing more with it.
>
>Micel: LG customises products for each country Dylan and IFTTT is not compatible with our products.
>
>Dylan: So it doesn't work in the US as well? Why have a service if it doesn't work?
>
>Micel: I cannot guarantee if it will work in USA because we only support Australia and NZ.
>
>Dylan: So you don't know if there's work to make it available, or there isn't any?
>
>Micel: It is a third party application Dylan. LG develops Smart thinQ and rest assured that it is working in our products. It will not work with our products in Australia.
I've tweeted LGUSSupport So I'm hoping they will be more help.
You guys shoud try the IFTTT app. There are lots of applets available to reddit! My personal favorites are the push notification for smaller subs and the daily email update i use for r/kpop.
My playlist is only 1 song right now because I just got the applet haha... but here's the applet for it:
You can't do it in spotify natively but you can do it with iFttt. I have an iFttt reciepe that takes every song I add to my library and adds to a another list I made called started.
This allows me to simply add any song I am interested in to my library and then iFttt does the work for me. I can then review that list later and decide what to do with those songs...
Save Songs to "Starred" https://ifttt.com/recipes/316011?z=261206
Here's the RSS feed for the blog:
You could use one of the various RSS services (like IFTTT) to get alerts to your inbox, notifications direct to your phone, etc.
