Haha. If your friend uses an IFTTT recipe to change his background, I'm sure he got it, cause I also got it. x)
Edit: Here is the recipe
Edit 2: If you want to do the same thing on Windows
Why do I feel bad for laughing?
Annnnd now it's my wallpaper
If anyone is interested, I created an IFTTT for a new patrick wallpaper from /r/pictureswithpatrick every time they have a new top post.
[link] is also a way to do it.
Edit: So Relemsis below me figure out how to apply this website for however you guys are asking.
"Ok, just got it. You set up the search on Google Alerts, have it show whatever, and then you create a "feed" and then you put that feed into ifttt as the if statement and put gmail as the then statement and have it delivered to your G-mail."
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
IFTTT employee here. We use OAuth on the channels that require you to authenticate, so we never actually see or store your account information.
Also there's a number of powerful channels that require no authentication, like Space and Weather.
Here's the RSS feed for hobojet [link]
Here's an IFTTT that can email you when keywords in an RSS feed appear, so you can be notified by email when your city shows up [link]
Use IFTTT to get notified as soon as a new story comes out!
RSS feed: [link]
From there, choose which alert method you want to use (SMS, email, etc).
ie: I receive the following message by SMS everytime airz23 is posting (shared the recipe)
> Rejoice! New post from /u/airz23 on TFTS!
EDIT: Thank you whoever gave me some gold!
Or use an Email version provided by \u\xaitv
I've posted this before, in another story, but it was a bit late and didn't get much attention, so I figured I'd put it up again. It is an IFTTT recipe that will send you an SMS whenever /u/Alistair9000 posts to FPS. The mighty Beetusbot and his orangereds are all well and good, but sometimes I have the audacity to attempt to do more then sit on reddit all day, and am late to a story. This helps fix that.
Thanks for doing these! I made an IFTTT recipe to send a notification when you post a new one - grab it here.
I've made an IFTTT recipe for this. It notifies you by email whenever a new post is made on this subreddit. You can set it up with your email here.
We wanted to make sure all of your reddit folks knew about some IFTTT recipes which plug in OneNote & reddit together: [link]
Please try it out! -James
So I have IFTTT set up to send me a notification for when something named Civ V AI Only World Domination is posted to this subreddit. It sent one. I was so excited.
Please continue this soon. I've already begun to get sick, and I fear the hype may kill me.
My favorite and most used recipe: Pushbullet notifications for Paranoid Android Google+ posts You'll have to add PA (or your favorite ROM developer) to a new circle on G+ and enable email notifications for that circle.
Notify me when a kernel update is available. This recipe is set for Franco's Nexus 5 kernel. Modify it to suit your needs.
I love these so much! (I created an IFTTT trigger to alert when these are posted.) Thank you for posting these, /u/ChrysWatchesGot!
Here's the website: [link] Basically, you plug a little base station in to your router and then the lights communicate with that. Then when you're on your network you can do all kinds of crazy set ups. What's really cool is when you can create one side of the room as totally red and the other side as totally blue (or something similar).
If you really want to get crazy with it, check out [link] You can set up all kinds of automated triggers for your lights.
.... Yes you can.
IFTTT and a bunch of similar apps are out there that allow you to schedule tasks based on your GPS location. You could set a job to send a text when you leave the office every night very very easily.
No tracking. No need for you to check up on him. The same text he would write by hand just automated.
If you use IFTTT, you might be interested in this. It's a recipe I created to text you whenever /u/Gambatte posts something in /r/talesfromtechsupport.
This is the only thread that I visit /r/India for and since it is never upvoted I find it lazy to scroll down so I made two IFTTT recipes one for morning and one for evening .
Use these to get a push notification to your mobile.
Here's some stuff I've done with IFTTT:
If you look on the IFTTT site there's lots of stuff to do with connected devices like Hue lightbulbs or smoke detectors or fitness trackers. You can also trigger quite complex things with SMS messages which can be handy.
There's a Reddit channel so you can get pinged when something specific happens, like your favourite movie star does an AMA.
Here's an IFTTT recipe that sends you a text each time the good captain posts a story. For those of us who enjoy his stories as much as I do :)
Here's an IFTTT recipe that will send you an email for the next one in case you get tired of waiting. You can also tweak it to send an SMS to your phone.
Here, this might help! I've started creating IFTTT alerts for my favorite authors on Reddit, and /u/airz23 is now officially a member of that elite group.
I work at IFTTT and I read this subreddit all the time! We're not too big of a team, just around 30 at the moment. We don't have a public list of upcoming Channels, but the best way to let us know what Channels you want is by submitting them at this link.
I'm not drinking today!
For anyone interested /u/offtherocks made an amazing IFTTT Recipe that sends you a text when the daily check-in is posted! Pretty slick!
I just set up a series of these and prefer android notifications to email. An example of that is this.
Awesome idea tho!
I have an If This Then That recipe that texts me "Open your window." when the weather is below 71 degrees and it also texts me "Shut your window." when it is above 73 degrees.
There is a lot of cool things you can do with that website that also work with a lot of social media.
I love this IFTTT recipe that /u/offtherocks made so I know when the check in is posted! Off to a show/fundraiser tonight which will be very fun, and the first time I've been there sober in the six years it's been running! Certainly won't be drinking!
You need to integrate with IFTTT!
I would love to be able to fire off notifications or events based on how many times I logged an item.
If I log 30 cups of coffee then call the paramedics! haha
If I log 12 beers then call an Uber cab to my location
If I log being upset more than three times a day then send me a notification with a random happy quote!
Can anyone think of some other fun ones? haha
Try IFTTT, there's a recipe close to what you're looking for. Grab a friends phone, send a specific text, your phone's ring volume is on max, then just call the phone.
If you are going to make the lights red in your living room, may as well create the "If my lights turn red, set the thermostat to 100F" recipe in the event you are sleeping or something.
Here's what you do:
FYI, I found out so quickly about this by using If This Then That.
Search for Steam and there's a recipe that emails you as soon as a game goes free on Steam.
Search for gaming and there's recipes that sends you Steam keys when there's a giveaway happening somewhere on the internet.
You could probably set up an IFTT action to copy those photos to Dropbox. If you have Dropbox installed on your computer, you could point your screensaver settings to that folder. [link]
You'd want to clean it out every once in a while or use the program Hazel to do it automatically.
"If This Then That" is what you're looking for:
If there are any new league transactions, it will send an alert to your e-mail/phone. Here is the "recipe" I published:
IFTTT. Get the app and change this recipe to /r/awwnime instead of /r/wallpapers. I also have it save posts to a Dropbox folder in case I want to go back to a particular picture I liked.
edit: The IF app, not the DO app.
edit 2: Here's the actual recipe I'm using: [link]
EDIT: DISREGARD I SUCK COCKS. Unless you wanted to install Pushbullet. In that case, proceed to step one.
get chrome extension
create account for IFTTT website [link]
get the hang of how it works
It is powered by you bro.
There are like a million of these already I think, but this is the one I made.
If you set up your own RSS feed for the updates, you can use IFTTT to notify your phone whenever said RSS feed is updated.
IFTTT + Pushbullet is a great way to go too. Whenever there is a new story I receive a notification with a link on both my Android phone and Chrome on my desktop.
Edit: The recipe: [link] (You will need to install Pushbullet on your devices/desktop browser and you may need to activate the Pushbullet channel on IFTTT.)
I just typed this up for you, and whoever else wants it:
1) Open Activator, select Anywhere, and tap Edit.
2) Select Recieved Message. In the message field type "NIGHTMODE.ON" Save it.
3) Create another Recieved Message and in the message field type "NIGHTMODE.OFF" Save it.
4) Tap on Done.
5) Scroll down and select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.ON in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Activate' switch (located under the Switches (Activate) category.)
6) Next, select to the newly created 'NIGHTMODE.OFF in Messages' action. Assign its action to be 'Nightmode Deactivate' switch (located under the Switches (Deactivate) category.)
Included in the sunrise/sunset text messages will be the low/high temperatures for the day.

Guess I'll go for most useful?
Any time you save a post on Reddit, it sends a transcript of that post to your e-mail.
I'm not sure how useful this will be to others, but it will help me a ton. I save posts and constantly forget all about them by the time I'm available to read them.
Thank you for the gold :)
You can do this via the RSS trigger.
I have never used it, but [link] is exactly this.
I personally have a Wordpress Portfolio page, and then purchased the NextScript Auto-Poster plugin. Whenever I post on my Portfolio, that is pushed out everywhere at once so that I don't need to worry about it at all.
It's actually a public recipe: [link]
Totally cool. I especially love when guests point it out. "Did your lights just turn on?" "Of course they did. It's sunset. Do yours not?"
Thanks for making these!
I hate missing them, so I made an IFTTT recipe to give me email alerts when one is posted - hopefully it will be helpful for a few other people too!
Also made one for the 'Science Summary of The Week' posts.
I use an IFTTT recipe that does this automatically
Google drive/Android has an amazing "scan" option. That's what I use now. Credit papazaffer too.
You can integrate if this then that (IFTTT) with pushbullet really well.
E.g. receive a push when it will rain tommorow. Or push something when a new item is available through rss:
If you make some kind of script to ping you notifications hourly, you can make it. Although I don't know how battery would suffer.
For example IFTTT Currency price android notification
Sort of, but it's a bit different.
IFTTT means If This Then That, it can do some things that Tasker can also do, but it's not trying to be a Tasker alternative.
You can read more about it here.
Copy paste of my ColorNote file of a search for friend month back, because horrible apps FB . Not tested it myself. Perhaps usefull.
-Facebook Lite: webinterface app, but has notificaties, many counteies via sideload apkmirror.com
-Tinfoil: webinterface app without notificaties in sandbox for more privacy
-FB notifications: IFTTT, Dashclock Facebook extention, Pushbullet, Notiface, , Fast Notifications, Notifier Widget for FB (old),
-Alternative apps: Friendcaster, fast fb/messenger, Klyph, Stream, Spatio, Paper (only Play Store USA?)
-Messenger apps with FB support: Trillian, Xabber, or other messenger compatible with XMPP? FB is going to pull XMPP support ???
-Turn on email notifications for Fb messages: [link]
-Using IFTTT for FB notifications: [link]
IFTTT add recipe fb not's: [link]
Yes, give me a minute and I'll post a link to it.
You need to get your personal Reddit RSS link and paste it into the recipe. On reddit, go to preferences -> RSS, and copy the link for your inbox.
It's possible if you use IFTTT.
1) Create a gmail account that will send the notifications (something like - just something kinda random).
2) /u/andytuba explained how to get the RSS feed: [link] < - make note of this for the next step.
3) Use ifttt.com to create a script that says "If new item on RSS feed [insert your rss feed here] then send an email from [your new gmail account you created for this purpose here]". Set it so that it will send the email to whatever email account want to receive the notification at, and the subject/message body to "New post on [SUBREDDITNAME]" or whatever.
(optional) 4) Use a google apps script to delete all the sent messages from your "sent from" email address every 24 hours or something. Not strictly necessary since it would take a lifetime to use up the storage quota on a gmail inbox with simple single-line-no-attachment sent messages, but I like to keep things super clean and organized and creating a google apps script (script.google.com) takes just a couple of minutes and then you never have to log into that particular gMail account ever again. I don't even remember the password for my gmail notification account now (I set this up over a year ago) which is probably a bad thing, but whatever.
Haha, I IFTTT'd you 20 minutes before this post, too.
Here's Airz: [link] (as posted by someone else in a previous thread)
And here's Reptilian (I just cloned the previous one and changed the search term): [link]
There's a website called If This, Then That which you can configure to search craigslist for you, and send you an email when things match your search criteria. I have found it very helpful.
Someone let her know about this
>IFTT - If This Then That - is a web service you can use to alert you when terms matching your description pop up on craigslist/ebay.
>You basically sign up and configure the service to email or send you a notification if a "57 les paul junior" listing pops up in the ottawa classifieds.
>It's a very useful service that can automatically notify you if any of your stuff does end up on craigslist.
So I have twitch email me when he goes live, then have IFTTT (www.ifttt.com) see that email and send my watch a custom notification. I have something similar for YouTube uploads too.
If you have IFTTT and an android wear watch, I published the recipe so you can reuse :):
I created a helpful IFTTT trigger so you can get a text message the second the podcast drops next time. Check it out. This is for iOS so you can do a similar one for Android by changing the channel.
I've also published the IFTTT recipe if anyone just wants to use it instead of making it (despite it being super easy), you can find it here:
In case anyone wants it, I made an IFTTT recipe that emails you when a new code is posted by /u/swagbucksbot. You could also edit it to send you a text, or any other number of things.
Three separate recipes I got from comments, not my original recipes.
Someone (not me) made these:
Those are pretty cool for you APK fans.
Now, here's the thing. IFTTT uses reddit api. However reddit does have the Api to do this. It's just that IFTTT doesn't have said ability to parse, understand, and act upon that. I don't think a user can create a custom trigger either.
Long story short, it's not reddit's problem. It's that site's.
But if you can host it or find a host, I can easily write up a simple script that will notify you each time there is a report.
Edit: according to this an api for ifttt itself is in the works so that developers can create custom triggers and actions. However at this time it's not available.
Here you go, you can tweak it yourself, basically it will send an email to whatever email you want, anytime certain keywords are mentioned in a submission for this subreddit, i set it to specific words Tpang has used in the past, but you can update it once we know how he is going to title them.
Well, actually here's how it happened. I was really into Factorio the same time that I found IFTTT so the first thing I did to test it was just make a recipe that posts friday facts to this sub. Then, I kinda just forgot about it until people started mentioning my username. Nowadays, I just leave it on because its always amusing to see people wondering how I post them so quick and it also makes it so the new posts always end up on the sub.
EDIT: Here's the magic. Feel free to script it out, a simple python script would easily out-post me.
We had been wanting a nook for our kitchen, and I setup an IFTTT to notify me of new posts for nooks on Craigslist. I found one in terrible shape, but it was solid oak. Picked it up, brought it home, and started the process:
First was sanding. Used a belt sander to get rid of the red marker and water stains. Then used some fine-grit sandpaper and hand sanded until the finish was a clean blank slate. The oak sanded down great.
Next was paint. Chose a durable gloss white latex paint and did the main body of the nook (inside and out) and the legs of the table and bench. Did two full coats.
After came stain. Chose a Rustoleum wood stain to match our kitchen cabinets. First time we had stained anything. The instructions said to apply and then wipe off the excess, but we found applying a thick coat (and being extra careful about brush strokes) was the best method to get a rich finish.
Then a nice coat of Poly. Chose the companion Rustoleum polyurethane to make our stain shine. Did three generous coats on all the stained wood.
Last step of the first weekend was the test fit. We had to trim some of the back off with a jig saw to fit our large molding in the kitchen. A bit of touch up paint and that wrapped up our first weekend.
A few weeks later came upholstery. We ordered new custom-cut foam and some nice “fake leather” vinyl. This I was able to knock out in a day, though it was harder than I expected.
The last step of the second weekend was installation. Got everything bolted together and wrapped up the project!
This is the first time we had ever done a major DIY project. Two weekends, and a lot of hard work later, we have a wonderful nook that perfectly matches our kitchen.
It's a website/app where you can set rules. So you could set a rule to scan Craigslist and email you the a C2 pops up on your local CL site for under $300, and you would get an alert.
There are a TON of other application for IFTTT, it's worth checking out.
rss feed to push bullet
While they would like you to use a smartphone, you can just install the pushbullet browser extensions for chrome or firefox to get the same result.
Pushbullet also lets you do all kinds of notification things directly to the browser with the extension installed, even without Ifttt.
I basically use it as an ifttt extension lite.
The button is now grayed out...
For those that have not been able to pre-order. I suggest using Page Monitor (chrome extension). and highlight the pre-order button. A better alternative than staring at the webpage all day and pressing F5.
Or use IFTTT.com and create a title:Rosalina subreddit:amiibo recipe to notify you if someone creates a thread on reddit.
edit: Published a recipe for this: [link]
Hopefully, they open pre-orders again.
There's a recipe with IFTTT (If this then that) that lets you download autocratically a youtube video to your Dropbox or Drive, whenever you favorite it, like it, or save it to watch it later. Here or Here
I created a script in IFTTT that will email you whenever there is a new post about Fusion Rifles. This should help by notifying you if there is a new post regarding fusion rifles.
Fusion Rifle IFTTT
Yup! Use IFTTT to create a recipe with your requirements, send it to push bullet that then pushes it to your devices.
Here is an example
*Accept that you need to get out. Your despair will bleed over into attitudes with clients, coworkers, management, and work ethic, then you may have the additional indignity of being fired from a shitty job you hate by shitheads you don't respect... That'll play hell on your self respect and confidence.
*Be looking. Set up an account with ifttt such that you get an email whenever a massage job gets posted to the help wanted: salon (and/or health care) section of craigslist
*Really look into yourself as to why do you do what you do... That will help you decide where to go next. Like any field, the longer you spend in it, the more specialized you will become, and in some ways that specialization becomes a limiting factor or disqualifying element with regards to other specialities.
*As a male it will be harder for you in spas because of gender preference bias, but even if you're 'good' the expectation on therapeutic efficacy will be less. If you want to travel, 'spa' is a specified kind of experience that works well in its own world, but doesn't easily translate into other massage environments. Maybe look for a chiro to assist, often they pay shit but you could work on specific skills and develop a clientele by leaching from theirs. Clinics will be less forgiving if you take their clientele, and the expectation of being effective is higher.
*In marketing yourself and interviewing, focus on the positive. How long have you been doing massage is not the same as how long you have been licensed, so instead of telling the cold hard facts that are readable on your resume, tell the story of why you do what you do and your passion for it
*Until you can change, do it with love, and for the sake of love. Love and compassion can help get you through the most challenging or disgusting treatments, and as the foundation for education and experience will lead you to a long and gratifying career
No, totally not!
It's based on "if this, then that" (that's what IFTTT stands for) but it can do alot more than send you texts. I'd check out the most popular recepies to start and get an idea of what can be done :)
Not the original IFTTT author, but here you go!
Edit: Bonus, pushbullet support
If this then that
It's a website/app you can use to alert you when things change.
If someone puts a bike up for sale on craigslist, text me.
In this case if someone makes a post in r/usenet with the words dognzb and open, text me.
Try this IFTTT Recipe: Get a text message when dognzb opens
You may actually get your wish soon, by combining the forthcoming WeMo crockpot with IFTTT!
Edit: Or you could sort of do that now by plugging your slow cooker into a WeMo outlet and setting up an IFTTT recipe to post to /r/slowcooking when the outlet is triggered...
You can do this with IFTTT.
Link a reddit account to IFTTT (probably an account you make just for this purpose). And then create a recipe...
Trigger Channel: Feed (for RSS) > "Need feed item" > https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/VanossGaming/uploads
Action Channel: reddit > "Submit a new link" > format it how you'd like and with Vanossgaming as the Subreddit (no "/r/").
Here is the recipe.
EDIT: Just note if there are multiple free apps that day it will only push the one the Amazon is featuring. Not all of them. But hey, at least it's reminding you.
Wow. Finally I have a reason to use IFTTT.
Google really needs to buy these guys. Imagine hooking this stuff into Google Now.
I also noticed a few recipes that add rows to Google Drive spreadsheets, i.e. [link]. Very cool.
Facebook has an "export profile" feature that allows you to download your whole profile to your computer. I do that every now and then, in mixture with automating the work of downloading and archiving posts to my dropbox with [link]
So far, this is the working setup I have, but it will be convenient to have a tweak.
I have no affiliation with the page, but if you're trying to do something similar to that, you could use IFTTT (If This, Then That) to update a twitter page every time a specific subreddit receives a new post.
Any blog w/ an RSS feed feature can be turned into an IFTTT recipe for gift card deals. Which ones have it? That I'm not sure of.
EDIT: I've created an IFTTT recipe that will email you on any gift card deals posted on Frequent Miler's blog in the hot deals section.
I also use this recipe on IFTTT to get notifications in case the post doesn't show up on my front page.
Take a look at this link and the instructions.
You can use the website IFTTT to set up alerts when great deals become available from RSS feeds (such as TheFlightDeal, great site) so you can jump on the deal immediately.
I get email alerts almost every morning. Some are domestic US trips some are international, all are great price but flexibility is key.
If This Then That has a lot of potential.
Year? Maybe a bit longer, but more and more things are going to be internet connected.
ITTT is a great platform for controlling/integrating those intenet connected things, even if made by different manufacturers.
For example, I can set my home temp to raise by 10 degrees as soon as my phone connects to home wifi, preheat my oven while I'm at the store watching Papa Murphy's slather sauce on my pizza, or check if I remembered to switch the load of laundry last night, etc.
I know my modifiers aren't all correct, I use this on my Mac at work. I have a FN key but only a 1u, I'm missing the 1.25u unfortunately so it didn't fit right. If anyone has a spare, I'm willing to pay!
Also, these keycaps seem very popular over at /r/mechmarket (where I actually bought these). I'll give a little tip for some people, you can use a IFTTT recipe I made to notify you when there is a new post about whatever you want to buy over at that subreddit. I figured I'll share now that I got what I wanted haha!
Can you use "if this then that"? It's an app I use for similar things on my pebble. (I'm still a plebe with. Fitbit one/ haven't got my charge HR...yet)
Take an RSS feed that you want to get a text message from, like class cancelations.
Tell Ifttt to send it to you.
If you don't have a smart phone you can increase the things your phone can do with ifttt.
For instance combine it with google calendar to get calendar updates via text message.
Be lazy and announce major holidays on facebook or twitter via ifttt.
Create a party button for cool light effects with Hue and Bttn
There's some gadgets that work with ifttt, like bttn, hue, the wifi connected outlets, etc.
So you can set your lights to turn off at 9 pm, or whatever possible combination you can think off.
The fun of ifttt is that there are so many options if you have the use for it.
Here's someone using it to backup IOS contacts to google spreadsheet.
I really love finding things to read, but most of the time, I don't have time to do so.
I made a recipe that collects all the @pockethits tweets and sends me a weekly email digest. For the uninitiated, Pocket is a read-it-later client and the @pockethits account shares all the most-saved articles and videos in Pocket. From the email, I can choose which articles I'm interested in and can then read them, or save it to Pocket.
Send me a weekly email digest of all of @pockethits tweets
Here's an IFTTT receipe or PushBullet
I prefer PushBullet as it's quicker - I'd sometimes get texts after codes expired
It's incredibly easy to make an ifttt pushbullet recipe for all new or hot posts on gamedeals as well.
Oh. :( I gets texts when tarla is mentioned on this sub.
edit: For people asking how I did that. . . Someone else posted on here, and I just piggybacked on their thing. [link]
Just use IFTTT. No need to manually check every three hours -- you'll get a text when they're available.
There are still places with tickets available. There have been posts where the freebie gets reddit hugged within minutes of being posted, so it happens. The only option is to never leave /r/freebies for a second. ^Or ^get ^[link].
IFTTT. It definitely works for Yahoo, but I'm not sure about ESPN.
Essentially, it creates an "if this, then that" script that will perform certain actions based on a given trigger. It can do all sorts of neat things, but I use it to alert me when there's been a pick-up, drop, or trade, as well as any changes in my players' status.
