Hey everyone, I wanted to share my second and third acrylic painting ever! I stole the design from wall decals of Daenerys and Jon but if somebody knows the original artists I'd be happy to credit them. They turned out much better than I expected considering I haven't painted anything since high school :) Let me know what you think
Seven hells, that moment when Gendry warhammered those two goldcloaks had me at full attention. Although it's a quite a jump to go from Braavosi actor to guarding the capital, ser Camello. I found it bizarre that they couldn't find some other less recognizable supporting actor for that quick part.
Tinfoil edit: after losing his cushy acting job due to the death of the lead Cersei role, he crossed the Narrow Sea with Danaerys' fleet, having been enlisted by Varys to infiltrate the Goldcloaks, sending back whispers from the capital.
Hey this is my drawing! You can see more of my artwork here. This wasn't actually meant to be ser pounce, it's supposed to be my cat, Shoelace. Glad to see that you guys like the drawing though!
I will endeavour to release the PSD files when I get home so that motivated parties can print their own. Stay tuned!
EDIT: Holy crap has this blown up... sorry I kept you waiting!
Here's an album with hi-res PNGs for printing: https://imgur.com/a/nnS36Ku
If you print these at 150dpi on card stock, then trim along the white lines, you'll have exactly what I've got. They'll be perfectly sized to fit in the retro Guess Who board.
Let it never be said that OP did not deliver. (Also, apparently I need a third board for Robert, Robb, more wolves, dragons, etc...)
In one of his books (either On Writing, or one of the introductions of a Dark Tower book), Stephen King mentioned some older lady writing him to ask him to tell her how the Dark Tower series ends because she realized she wouldn't last long enough. King didn't even know yet himself, so he couldn't help her.
Well, she does have a Patreon page hoping to get a little compensation for her time, so it seems more like a passionate hobby justified by the hope of earning a few bucks here and there.
The best GoT game imo is a complete overhaul mod for Crusader Kings II that has been constantly updated going on 7 years, now. Great community of modders.
You can play as virtually any character with a landed title at a number of different starting points during the books/show or even before. Link to mod site for the interested.
Totally different game style to the Witcher, and it's not right for everyone. But gosh darn if it isn't fun to conquer Westeros as Aegon Targaryen. Or conquer Essos as Khal Drogo. Or play as Robb and actually win the war. The world is your oyster, and it's fun to play around in different scenarios. That is until the RNG ruins your day, and you have to start again.
Yes:)
edit: thought I should mention I originally found this in this reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/hnmy1/advice_from_ned_stark/
Using this statistic that the average foot-to-bottom-of-neck height for a saddle horse is 5 feet to 5'8", it seems that each individual harpy column is something along the lines of a hundred feet or more, as I measured them to be about 20 times higher.
EDIT: Just to clarify, the horse and rider in this picture are riding past the statues and are just exiting the tunnel of the gate, not just exiting the gate doors behind.

Yeah; if Ramsay gets two guys to help him catch the helpers who come for Sansa, the three of them all end up headless and she waltzes out no fuss no muss.
But if he moves Sansa to a different room and tricks Brienne into going to the old room, where she breaks in and turns around and there's 20 guys in there and 20 more run into the hall, then she comes to a bad end.

On the other hand, assuming it did really cost the full £174 million, since they pay with gold in ASOIAF, they would need a ball of gold 82.8 cm across, which looks something this this with today's price of gold: http://socialcompare.com/en/tools/compare-sizes/dany-vs-gold-vs-letter-sheet-vs-iphone4-vs-quarter-3x38adbb
In the books he was supposed to look like Aegon the Conquerer reborn
I'd link you to a canon-friendly rendition, but the ASOIF wiki is down.
Edit: when he was a kid, he was bookish and scrawny and he didn't really have an interest in warfare or knights or anything. Think child Sam, personality wise.
But then he stumbled across the prophecy about the Prince Who Was Promised and thought that it applied to him. So he saw it as his duty to learn how to fight, etc. Apparently to those around him the change in his drive was like night and day. His skill at arms were such that Jamie, who is supposedly peerless at the start of the story, looked up to him.

The worst thing that usually happens in medieval costuming is the cheap chain mail that is often used. It looks like it's knitted yarn, painted silver. I haven't noticed that sort of thing in GoT. If it's there, it isn't used where it's noticeable.

Nope, that's pretty much it.
No bullshit though, I'm actually a working artist, and practice is 99% of it. I have a shelf of sketchbooks and boxes of drawings to back that up. Look up the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain and work on perspective. There's tons of other drawing books out there for more specific subjects and techniques. But what it really takes is practice, drawing shitty, critically looking at your own work, seeing what's shitty about it, and fixing it. It's a 10,000 hour skill, you can't just do it a few times a month and expect to be any good at it.
No work compilation, sorry. But I do have some clips of different stuff online.

The scene with the wildlings was definitely shot in Þingvellir in Iceland. I've been there, it looks just like it does in the show. Here is one of my pictures.
I think reddit maxed out westeros.org's bandwidth limit or something. I grabbed it before it disappeared:
Edmure did exactly what Robb told him to. He was ordered to hold Riverrun, and saw a chance to do so with minimal losses to the Riverlands. Robb didn't make his orders clear.
“If words of command are not clear and distinct, if orders are not thoroughly understood, then the general is to blame. But, if orders are clear and the soldiers nevertheless disobey, then it is the fault of their oficers.”
Risk Legacy is easily the best version of Risk I've ever played. It's far more memorable and it's one of the few games I've ever played where the rules and board evolve over multiple games.
Again, I have no affiliation with Jerry Liu Studio. Just wanted to share his wonderful work.

I still smoke the occasional cigarette myself, mostly because of them having a laxative effect when I feel, ehem, backed up - I have Crohn’s disease. That being said, I rarely smoke more than a pack per month, and have no trouble going without. What surprised me, though, was how much I noticed other smokers smelling disgusting when I cut way back a few years ago, so I take care not to smoke around other people and try to stand in a draft so I don’t smell like an old ashtray when I’m done.
But aggressive and moralizing anti-smokers are the absolute worst. They make me want to go out of my way to bother them.

You should without a doubt read AFFC before ADWD for two reasons.
1) While the first half of ADWD happens at the same time as AFFC with different characters, the second half keeps going after AFFC finishes, brings back all of AFFC's characters, and deals with the aftermath of AFFC's events. If you have not read AFFC you will not understand why AFFC's characters suddenly are in the predicaments they are in.
2) It will ruin any dramatic tension created in AFFC. There are several plotlines in AFFC that keep you guessing, and reading ADWD first will ruin any mystery there was.
You should definitely visit India in that case. A temple near my house that we all visit casually was built oh, sometime in 600 AD. Except for a brief interlude when a Muslim army invaded the ancient town and sacked the temple (thankfully they didn't bring down the superstructure), it has been worshiped in continuously for 1,500 years now.
Then you have these breathtaking feats of architecture and engineering, built in 1,000 AD, this temple complex has a main tower that is 210 feet tall and has a single granite piece weighing 70-80 tonnes on top of it with a hollow base. Or you have the extremely intricate work of the Hosyala period
Endless such examples.

I would recommend reading AFFC before ADWD because if you read them simultaneously it would ruin any dramatic tension created in AFFC. There are several plotlines in AFFC that keep you guessing, and reading ADWD first will ruin any mystery there was.
However, if you are bent on reading AFFC and ADWD together, you could use this list to read them simultaneously, in chronological order.

The studies I'm seeing state that gene flow from Sub-Saharan African countries is limited. This one concludes that "the majority of ancestry in modern North Africans derives from populations outside of Africa." Even if there was a greater link, they would still be ethnically and culturally distinct, as an ethnic group is not defined by race, but by the society to which people belong.

I used ExpressVPN. NordVPN is slightly cheaper but my payment didn't get processed. Yes I bought a gift card from . 25$ gift card is 29.99$ there. They had some issue with delivering my order cause of the high demand. But I got it within a couple of hours. From what I've heard it usually gets instantly delivered. I was kinda skeptical cause there are many internet scams around gift cards. Upon checking TrustPilot, it seemed to be just fine.
There are some interesting articles online where different writers make that comparison. Here's a HuffPost piece from yesterday that talks about Bran (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/game-of-thrones-finale-darker-than-it-seemedwe-thoughtit-appearedwere-led-to-believe_n_5cee8c5fe4b0793c23489b0b). There are articles though entirely devoted to this topic.
If we assume that Bran saw the destruction of KL and that he's still Bran, then... he's worse than Dany. Dany had genetics, mental health problems and added extreme depression/stress after The Long Night, helped along by Bran's manipulations no less, pushing her toward her actions. Although some might argue that Bran/3ER might have seen the destruction of KL as the only good potential outcome and that made it the right choice, I see that as only an excuse. He made no attempt to change fate. Yet, we've seen him influence people using his gifts, which means that the ink is not dry and outcomes can be altered... by Bran/3ER.
For a while there, Assange looked like he could've passed for Grand Maester Pycelle. Or, as this article this article lovingly described Julian, "the greasy lovechild of Rasputin and Saddam Hussein." (You're welcome.)
Sorry for the offtopic - but if you do that, do NOT disable the rest of ICMP. While I would recommend reading the books in the order they were published, AFFC first and ADWD second, I did make a reading order for combining AFFC and ADWD into a megabook, reconstructing the timeline the best I could. Enjoy!

And, predictably, the story is not that she wrote a "review" that had nothing to do with the show, but that "rabid superfans sent her hate-mail."
Oh, well. I'll just add Gina Bellafante to the Alessandra Stanley pile of useless twits who get paid by the Times.
the greeks and vikings did not joust, and greeks normally had huge shields, again though i really don't care about the show using wildly different armors to represent the different areas of westeros. I record each machine separately to be able to fine-tune the volume levels between them. But I don't change the pitches. The devices really play each note you hear.
The programming part is a bit complicated to explain but "microcontroller" and "stepper motor" are some of the keywords here. I use a microcontroller to control the speed of each stepper motor. And they create sounds with different pitches at different speeds. You can read more about the idea here.

> what I think is a primary ‘fact’ about my work, that it is all of a piece, and fundamentally linguistic in inspiration. [. . .] It is not a ‘hobby’, in the sense of something quite different from one’s work, taken up as a relief-outlet. The invention of languages is the foundation. The ‘stories’ were made rather to provide a world for the languages than the reverse. To me a name comes first and the story follows. I should have preferred to write in ‘Elvish’. But, of course, such a work as The Lord of the Rings has been edited and only as much ‘language’ has been left in as I thought would be stomached by readers. (I now find that many would have liked more.) [. . .] It is to me, anyway, largely an essay in ‘linguistic aesthetic’, as I sometimes say to people who ask me ‘what is it all about’.
From the Wikipedia page.
I'm sorry, but that's a whole lot of nonsense.
> Here's some backstory for you: They had ONE WEEK to film an entire season in Dorne. Spain gave them 1 week to enact absolutely everything, that is insane.
Then film elsewhere! That's why every half-decent show has staff to scout out locations and work out arrangements. If you know filming in a given location isn't suitable and you still go ahead and film there, you are 100% responsible for the crappy product you'll put forward.
> Guess what, all of those guys had A LOT of time to film their movies. They have as much time as they need, as their studio respects their process
Yes, quality scenes take a lot of time and preparation. So, again, why go forth and film in a location in which you know you will not have the time you need?
> You know what would have made it better? If Spain wasn't so concerned about losing a tourist location to film a fantastic show that would've gotten them additional revenue. Wouldn't you want to check out the place they shot that scene if it was done well?
Ah, yes, nobody knew the Alcazar of Seville before. It's not like it was a major tourist attraction in the region or anything.
> I agree, Dorne kind of blows right now, but it isn't D&D's fault (entirely). They are the executive directors, and they made the ultimate decision to film there despite the limitations in the location.
>I'll admit, I'm a fanboy of the series, but I'm just...tired of people ripping Dorne apart. Aren't you tired?
People wouldn't rip it if it wasn't plagued by low quality scenes. People were very much looking forward to this story arc, and it's been flubbed horribly.
I know it's not very well known but his main inspiration is actually The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon.

Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Falling Down, here are some Trailers
Here's a recipe for Glogg (Swedish mulled wine) which I recently for an icelandic themed Christmas Party (and everyone raved about it):
-Combine 3 bottles of port, 2 bottles of red wine (I used merlot) and heat on the stove so it's not quite simmering (DON'T boil at any point!).
-Then add bottle of bourbon, and a bottle of rum. When the mix gets hot again, light it on fire. Add 3/4c white sugar, sprinkle it around so it burns as it falls into the liquid.[side note: if you let it burn too long the flames might get HUGE. I almost burned down my house!] After about a minute of burning, put the lid onto the pot to extinguish the flames. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
-Then add ~15oz raisins and ~6oz blanched slivered almonds. Put 3 whole cardamom pods (cracked), 1 xinnamon stick, 4 cloves, and a 3" strip of orange zest into cheesecloth and submerge in liquid. Let the whole thing sit for ~1 hour. Then you can reheat if necessary to serve, or put it into bottles and store in the fridge for up to a year (if you plan on saving it, keep the original bottles that the booze came in).
(this recipe is a slight modification of the one found here)
There is a good paper written by someone on another Reddit forum which I would recommend.
https://www.academia.edu/33690484/Game_of_Thrones_Symbolism_and_the_Endgame
It focuses on the symbols used by GOT and what they mean. The argument is the symbols are pointing towards the war ending on the God's Eye. So I think that is where the story will end up and it'll involve sacrifices and rituals to bring the war to an end.

Yeah, he's saying completely ridiculous things but playing it completely straight, reading the words as he would for any of his real videos.
It's kind of like Leslie Nielson in Airplane. Most people remember him as a comedic actor, but the entire joke in Airplane was that he was a serious actor, and they brought him in to say silly things with the same amount of gravity he would in a drama. I've heard that the modern day equivalent would be like Liam Neeson doing a silly comedy and being very intense about it, which he kind of already has.
I just moved from the US to London. My parents have DirecTV with HBO also. I purchased a VPN from Nord which was I think $12/mo if you buy by the month (it is as low as $3/mo if you buy 2 years up front I think).
This has been my workaround thus far (already watched a few episodes of Entourage on the VPN), but I've read stories about how HBO actively cracks down on VPN usage, so although mine is working at the current, it may not work in a few weeks. I am still trying to figure out how to get access to Fox Sports Go, NBC Sports, ESPN and my other sports channels through the VPN (if anybody has any ideas).
If I'm being honest, I was a bit against this at first and didn't see how you or anyone else thought you should be compensated for what is essentially a hobby based upon material that many of the people on this subreddit pirate and don't even pay for (not even with dvd purchases).
However, I thought a little more about it, and you know what? Pretty much every Monday on the Google News Entertainment section, there is a story from "professionals" that literally just give a play-by-play of the last episode and get paid for that. No analysis, no nothing, just writing out a Cliff's Notes of the last episode. Your stuff is leagues more interesting and gives a much better insight to the differences btwn the show and the book. After taking that in to account, good on you mate...and I hope it works out well for you.
Only criticisms I can point out have really been pointed out already. The site itself is a damn monster and has no business chugging on a decked out macbook pro. Just look at its speed score:
Also, I kinda agree with the amount of snark in the captions...you're better than that man! Keep writing to your strengths rather than trying to make it seem like every other blog writeup. What some may see as boring, many others appreciate as professionalism and a breath of fresh air from the writing style that everyone else uses.
Lastly, my damn work blocks that domain...nothing you can do about that though...keep up the good work!

It took me a while to find a good academic source that mentions this, but the age of marriage used to be much, much higher than gets portrayed in popular culture.
Further, while noblewomen were married off earlier than common women, the age difference was rarely as bad as people make out.

I got this shirt (also from TeeFury) which I love because it's subtle. Ish.
I've also got one of the mugs from the HBO store (but I dig House Tully, which they had ;) )
Personally, I got so tired of trying to find jewelry that looked like it was from the show (that had assorted sigil-animals) that I made a Pinterest board of it. I would just about kill for a replica of the Hand's brooch.
It's called Demon's Plague. It's a zombie apocalypse book, but unlike every other one it takes place in a semi-realistic version of Medieval England instead of a modern / military setting. When I say "Semi-Realistic," it means a low-fantasy world where the cities and characters are fictional, but the weapons, places, and technology are authentic or at least plausible within the setting. No magic, dragons, or other fantasy creatures. The zombies are heavily inspired by Max Brooks, no runners. I also did my best to avoid common tropes for the genre. Characters are intelligent and learn quickly how to handle the infected. And best of all, the story focuses on exactly zero children or babies.
It's available on Amazon now in digital and paperback.
In my honest opinion, the books were slow going compared to the first three.
Why? Bogged down with too many unecessary details. While I appreciate that GRRM takes the time to set the scene (with the kinds of food, what the area looks like etc) in these books, it goes a little too far. I don't believe you need to describe every single dish every time a character eats.
Also, not much happens in the way of progression. You'll have a lot of dialogue with the characters, but you feel as if some of the stories are taking you around in circles.
I'd like to say though, you really should read these books. Otherwise, you are just missing out on the story. I found that reading the two together made a world of difference as AFFC focuses on one group of characters (the majority of them new) whereas ADWD focuses on characters you are most familiar with in the first three books.
Here's a spoiler free reading list provided by another devoted redditor. (god bless him/her)
Edit: I'm really surprised at how many people downvote you for expressing your opinion in this subreddit. I just wrote this entire post hoping to help this person through the series, because I wish someone had told me the same. Stay classy guys.
I got it as a gift a few years back actually. It's relatively cheap at Barnes and Noble's though. Most of the recipes I created myself and some I used the cookbook for inspiration.
I found it copied onto an IGN board!
GRRM's also read three other POV, afaik: Tyrion, Barristan and Victarion. A version of the Barristan chapter is included in the ADWD paperback edition, though it sounds like he's changed it in the latest reading.
I don't like the new background highlighting to user names, but that is because I use stylish , and almost no stylish themes know how to handle that. It's nice that you put the time into trying to make the subreddit look good, but since the majority of reddit still doesn't I'm still gonna use stylish, and therefore this subreddit will look very weird.
edit: included link if anyone is interested.
I still think that one transition scene in S2E2 from Theon fucking some whore on a boat > some couple fucking in Littlefinger's brothel > some other dude getting a blowjob watching them fuck through a keyhole > Littlefinger watching the dude get blown through yet another keyhole, is the most ridiculous transition the show's ever done.
I wish I could find the clip to link to it—for some reason it's awfully difficult to search for...
EDIT: I still can't find the clip of the scene itself, but it's the scene that inspired this amazing SNL sketch, which briefly shows the scene at the end. (Sorry, it's the only link I can find...)
I bought the box set almost a year ago. No missing pages, no formatting errors. I only remember a few spelling mistakes throughout. Great for the price, for sure, but I'd love it if I could get them in really high quality leather something like the Barnes and Noble Classics Series (like this: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/barnes-noble-leatherbound-classics-the-complete-sherlock-holmes-arthur-conan-doyle/1106658800)
To get this PS4 Theme all you have to do is watch the trailer on the PlayStation Vue website. After that you redeem the code on your account and the theme is yours. Unfortunately the promotion is only available for US accounts. Here's the link to the website

If you've got a Kindle but haven't jailbroken it yet, you can learn how to do it here. Then just copy the images from my link to your Kindle's linkss/screensavers/ directory and restart it. If you want them to appear randomly, add a blank file titled "random" without quotes to the same directory. Enjoy!
Edit: Added wallpapers with no House name (And upped the contrast a bit as well).
It's from the Lands of Ice and Fire series of maps. You can get them on Amazon . A must-have companion for those reading the books and/or interested in fantasy maps
Check this photo out and see if that isn't a HUGE pile of bodies in the background:
Here you go, http://www.filedropper.com/odetojon. This is a preset you can load in the KLWP app.
I am fairly new to KLWP and was stumbling around to create this, so the preset is pretty disorganized, hope it makes sense.
Neither are "real" words, so in all seriousness both spellings are perfectly acceptable. Broing is, however, the more commonly preferred spelling.

In an interview with the actor who plays Jaime, he said he doesn't look at Joffrey as a son, and I would have to agree I've never seen him that way.
Here's the interview: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/14/game-of-thrones-cast-reacts-to-the-shocking-purple-wedding-twist
depends on what you think qualifies them. Benioff wrote a few bad stories, didn't go to school to learn how to be a screenwriter. Dunno which of those qualify him.
He seems to have written some screenplays but for all we know they threw out most of his stuff, like with x-men wolverine origins where they rewrote his script.
Seemly all that qualifies him is him thinking he's qualified and his ability have people believe he knows how stuff works.
this article shows a lot of how they don't understand writing for tvshows
>It’s certainly still fire — it has the ability to burn the Wall and melt snow.
It also says it may have magical properties which could mean anything but it's still absolutely fire. I would gear down on that condescending attitude a smig.
AFFC was my least favorite book. If you enjoy reading about Brienne finding a highborn maid of three-and-ten, with a fair face and auburn hair, then it's the best book ever. This review sums it up pretty well. They should have just named it, "Cersei the Cunt and a maid of Three-and-ten."
