Well, according to my Twitter replies, there's a thing happening on Reddit about me! And here we are.
I did that photo for fun with Buzzfeed: [link]
I had been noticing on my website that a lot of people were searching "veronica belmont cleavage" (lulz) so I decided to have some fun with the search engine optimization. Glad you guys (or, some of you) got a kick out of it!
This was a long time ago, though, weird how these things come back around.
She caught a lot of flak for making that face while on the podium during her medal ceremony after she fell and let a sure-fire gold slip through her fingers. She was called a bitch and a brat all over the internet and that smirk where it looks like she's biting the inside of her cheek created a huge "McKayla is not impressed" meme. The embarrassment from that could have been devastating for a sixteen year-old girl. But, instead, she started playing along with the joke and now she owns the joke and it's no longer being used as an insult to her. Good for her. She's been training her ass off for Olympic fame. Let her ride this gravy train as long as it lasts.
EDIT: "All over the internet" may have been a bit overstated. It wasn't intentional, though.
This was one of the first things I saw after her vault, and I think I saw it on the Olympic subreddit. "McKayla Maroney Falls, Lets Out Her Inner 'Mean Girl'" [link] And the most "liked" comments on the article are chastising her for poor sportsmanship and the like. I saw negative comments all over Twitter and facebook too.
Right after it happened, Maroney apologized on Twitter because of the negative reactions: [link]
Salon had an article trying to defend her. [link] The "McKayla Maroney is Not Impressed" meme then launched from that-- while it was made in jest, I think it came from an overall negative tenor given the seeming immediate sentiment about the camera shot of her making that face/biting her cheek. But that was just how I interpreted the mood of the meme at first
Here is another one.
You get rewarded one for each year you have wasted on reddit. I guess this one means its 2012 outside.
EDIT: And yet, despite being fake ... and a repost ... and not really all that funny ... it still makes the front page. Good job, everyone.
Your AMA announcement in the sidebar linked to this article. Do you agree with the title and general sentiment that the article tries to portray?
"In his latest stunt, promoter Jeff Beacher, dressed as Big Britney [Spears], "collapsed" at Jet nightclub at The Mirage on Monday and was wheeled to an awaiting ambulance. Wee Matt, one of Beacher's Oompa Loompas, is holding Beacher's hand. As for the guys in the rabbit suits? Need we say staged?"
Technically, the attendees weren't trying to shout down the Puerto Rican speaker, but were trying to drown out boos from the Ron Paul delegates.
Hijacking the top comment to post this interesting article which echoes the OP's sentiment and looks at angry iPhone users who just lost their exclusivity.

It'll give away my name, but about 100,000 people have seen it already, so it's no biggie.
Here's the original post from my Buzzfeed account that started it all.
Then someone tumblr'ed it in Dec 2010 to the tune of 60K reposts
I tried to recapture the magic this year but not everyone has Timeline and it's rumored Facebook won't make it manditory for a year, so it didn't pick up.

This article was posted on fittit about a week ago. Seems to corroborate OP's experience. Woman weight lifter is living at poverty level in order to compete.
Three questions, if I may!
I see on your Team USA Profile Page that you want to coach one day. At what point do you think you will stop weight lifting and move to coaching? Will it be easy for you to get a coaching job as an Olympic athlete?
This BuzzFeed article discusses the living conditions that you are in and how you are not heavily sponsored like other Olympic athletes. Is there anything that can make weightlifting more popular in America, as it is in many other countries across the world?
Your Wikipedia page mentions that you have an arm deformity known as Madelung's deformity . How has this affected your lifting?
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions! Best of luck at the Olympics!
Why is he drawing attention to this? Doesn't he have anything better to do like harass/secretly ogle a gay couple or something?
Edit: Reminds me of this
According to the last reddit thread on this, the 'riddle' part is a slight mistranslation meaning something closer to "How can that be" or "Can you make sense of this."
If this is a "riddle," it is a purely linguistic one and not in any way solvable if you don't speak the language. Some guy on buzzfeed said the answer is "10 wet lions always turn to stone!!!! It makes sense in Chinese, trust me."
depends where you are from. most countries it was released in had their own version of the artwork. there was a post on reddit about it at one point that showed all the versions for the different books. I will see if I can find it in a bit.

This is also being discussed in this thread and this thread.
Many of the tweets, in addition to having a computer-generated character, seem to also have a commercial tone to them.
There are similar comments / commenters in Fox News threads. The posts are being made live, and certainly have a human behind them, but the names are often "odd," the photos that accompany them are a little too polished, and oddly, a vast number of them correspond to eBay accounts with identical usernames.
Can I prove anything? No. Is it odd? Somewhat.
Fun fact more enforcement wouldn't have prevented the massacre as he had no recorded history of mental illness and in fact got the guns completely legally according to current laws on the books though of course the bombs he built were illegal. Considering that there's a strong history of under diagnosing mental issues in men (vast majority of mass murderers are men) unless this is phase one of a plan to completely revolutionize the field of psychiatry on top of making there be mandatory stringent mental evaluations to get a gun any level of background checks will be little or no more effective than current measures as the system is already a binary search. Frankly i doubt many people would risk their license over not running a search when you basically just send their name and social off to get evaluated and you can lose your license if you don't.
Citation and interesting article regardless:
That's fine, we are sexual beings and everyone checks everyone else out.
But, consider that when women are competing in athletics, when what they look like becomes more of a focus than what they're trying to accomplish - that sucks.
I remember this incident where a media personality referred to a winning team of awesome student-atheletes "nappy headed hos", the inference being that no matter how great the women were at what they were doing, they were only interesting insofar as that they were attractive to him.
Consider that this athlete, who is the best in her field, can't get sponsors because she is not considered attractive.
So, checking out some hot Olympic babes? Fine. Zooming in on a woman's ass as she goes through what is obviously some pre-game nerves, a moment that is not intended for your sexual gratification? Unprofessional on the part of the cameraman, creepy and it only reinforces the underlying notion that it's not enough for female athletes to be good, but also of sexual interest.
I don't think anybody has noticed he's dead.
Link to picture:
I actually think it's a really interesting picture of her. She looks like her eyes are two different colors, but that may because of the lighting. It's a weird exposure as well, so her skin looks stark white as if she's wearing white makup. She doesn't look bad, just very different.
The other pictures are just horrible lens distortions from the extreme closeup. What a lot of people don't realise is that different camera lenses can have very dramatic effects on a picture.
Totally agree, but this seems to be the least of her lunatic statements... right? Or does reddit really hate religion that much? I agree that it's not a smart thing to say and that it sounds a little bad, but... seems docile compared to her "CO2 in the environment is natural" and..., well, all of these

This article explains it well. Basically, the clock did not start in that frame. The touch was after time would have been called if the timer was working, and it should not have counted.
>Germany's Britta Heidemann and South Korea's Shin A Lam had already fought to a draw in regulation. Whichever fencer got a touch next would move on to the gold medal round of the Women's Individual Epeé. There was one second left on the clock in the extra frame.
>The clock never started! So Heidemann had more than one second to land the winning touch. At the very least, whether she landed it in time was highly in doubt.
This article says they would go another round, but as I understand it and your article also says, Lam had a ~~higher~~ priority ranking so after one tie-breaking round with no winner, she would have been the default winner and gone onto the gold medal round.
She didn't leave the piste because:
>In fencing, leaving the piste means that you have officially accepted the judges' ruling. And seeing as the clock didn't start, and she should still have a shot at gold, she sat down. It's the filibuster of fencing.
Agreed, this pic has been floating around for a few years and you can tell from this higher res pic that the ink is the same. The trendy blue star tattoos are also a bit of a hint that the guy isn't a former skinhead.

Apparently (according to her story) she just went into the place not knowing who would be performing for the night. However, the owner of the club gives a story that differs a lot from what the woman claimed. Clearly he has no idea whether or not she knew Daniel Tosh would be there, but according to the owner, Tosh misunderstood the heckler and just did what he would do to any other heckler. Part of a comedian's job is to keep the audience focused on his performance and not allow for any disruptions, so when they are heckled they give that heckler a run for their money. They dish out the hard-hitting, offensive stuff to get the heckler off of their case.

Because the rapist was never charged. [link]. The circlejerk just hears a claim and fires away.
From the perspective of law what should happen? In a custody battle if one side claims rape they automatically win?
If her claim is true then what happened to her is horrible but the crime is that the rapist got away with it not that he has a claim on the baby.
Here is their thanks.

He clearly could have told his blind trust to invest in America. But that's not his priority.
My favourite example of a supernormal stimulus: beetles lusting for orange beer bottles (pictures in link)
>The bottles resemble a "super female" jewel beetle. Male beetles are so captivated by the bottles that they will gird their loins and go through the expected motions, refusing to leave until they fry to death, are consumed by hungry ants, or are physically removed by researchers.

Did you know..... That for that pic- they dressed a boy up like a girl because the director thought it'd be too mean to make fun of an actual girl
Yeah, uh, they don't make any nice songs. But they do make some of the most awful lyrics on the face of the earth.
I believe in one absolute truth, people who enjoy ICP in any capacity have no taste.
That song is actually a protest song against male circumcision in South Africa, :
"It turns out (in a nutshell), this song is about the transition from 'boy' to 'man'. There is a common practice in S. Africa where to become a man, you must to have a circumcision. The ceremony is held a few years after a boy hits puberty. These are done out in the bush where many of these 'boys' die from infection or AIDS from the tools used. 'Boys' who refuse to have their penis circumcised are said to be 'evil' or 'gay' and banished. If they come back, it's been said that they kill the 'boys'. (I couldn't find an article to support that last sentence, but that's what I was told.)"

There are definitely attractive ginger blokes out there. If I fancied a bloke, his hair colour wouldn't put me off, but I do generally tend to go for dark haired guys anyway.
Bigger after a certain point, 4 inches isn't going to feel better than 6 inches unless the smaller guy really knows what he is doing and the larger guy doesn't. Girth is also important.

Thanks for posting this - I hadn't realised. Just to clarify, I'm not the YouTuber (gavonl) who uploaded the video. I originally watched the clip on BuzzFeed, and the article linked to the above video - thus I assumed it was the original source. Thanks again for the correction.
I think it's because his expression is reminiscent of the Kubrick Stare given by Alex in that famous image from his adaptation of the novel (the scene I'm talking about is at the beginning of that video.)

I totally agree.
It reminds me of this article actully.
There are some totally talented athletes that struggle since it's hard to land a sponsorship to fund their regimens. Like weightlifting. Here's another article on the strongest woman in America.
Most female sports just don't seem to catch the public eye unless they're ogle-worthy. That would be all well and good if looking slim and conventionally sexy and actually being talented didn't exist as synonyms in people's heads.
Again (posted this in part 3), here's a BuzzFeed interview with OP on his excellent work here on Reddit.

This is Todd Love. My aunt actually met him when helping to run a SCUBA diving course for wounded servicemen from the UK and US Armed Forces. While they were at a pool learning to use all the gear, he had somebody carry him to the top of the 10 metre board, did a handstand on one arm, a little twist, and dived in.
Truly a badass, I can't wait to meet him.

Here's what the manager of the club had to say about the incident:
>Masada says Tosh asked the audience, "What you guys want to talk about?" After someone in the front said "rape," a woman in the audience started screaming, "No, rape is painful, don’t talk about it." Then, Masada says, "Daniel came in, and he said, 'Well it sounds like she’s been raped by five guys' — something like that. I really didn’t hear properly."
>He continues, "It was a comment — it wasn’t a joke at the expense of this girl."
>Masada says that the woman then sat through the rest of Tosh's set — which received a standing ovation — before complaining to the manager about Tosh's joke. The manager apologized, Masada says, and offered her tickets to come back to the Laugh Factory for another performance, which she accepted.
>"If you’re offended why would you take a couple tickets to come back to the club again?" he says. "If you were offended, how about the rest of the audience" — 280 people total — "who’s giving a standing ovation?"
>Masada has known Daniel Tosh for 10 years and describes him as an "edgy comic" but also "one of the nicest people in the world."
>"I know his character," Masada continues. "He was trying to make everybody laugh. He was so sweet to find out one person was insulted to apologize about it." (Tosh tweeted his apologies about the incident to his more than six million followers this afternoon.)
Sounds like her friend was just looking to get some blog hits. And it worked. Fuck her and everyone like her.
Yeah I've heard Republicans try to argue that Romney isn't in favor implementing the plan nationally and that he's for states rights. The huge problem with this is that Romney has suggested multiple times that his plan should be used as a national model.

There was an article where an entire town got in on the fuck the WBC bandwagon:
One of the WBC guys was being a dick at a gas station. So he got his ass beat. When cops showed up, the entire gas station said they didn't see anything.
First a bunch of people found out where they were sleeping and "accidentally" parked rather large trucks/vehicles around their vehicles.
Then when WBC called police and cops to move the vehicles, they took their sweet time responding to it. By sweet time I mean, right after the funeral was finished.
Guys that owned the trucks moved their trucks and vehicles when the funeral was over.
Cops then came and asked the ones who made it to the funeral about a crime that as reported at the time. Later they dropped the charges but it just so happened to take as long as the funeral.
tl;dr: get the cops on your side.
You fucking karma whore. I submitted the full link to this story earlier. What a douchebag. Nice cut and paste job, asshat.
Nope. That 'cancer' ad was very bad, but it was produced by a pro-Obama PAC, not Obama's campaign. (You'll remember Romney made the exact same argument when a pro-Romney PAC ran dubious ads against Gingrich in the primaries. The ad ran once, and obviously the PAC was told not to run it anymore.)
Also Romney has based his entire campaign on the 'You Didn't Build That' lie, which is a deliberate misunderstanding of Obama's statement. Only a complete moron or liar could think that he was saying small business owners don't build their businesses (he actually said roads and bridges aren't built by individuals, but by governments). That's far less credible.
P.S. Romney has reversed himself on nearly every political stance he took in the past (gun control, abortion, gay rights, immigration, Federal government healthcare based on 'Romneycare', bailing out the auto industry, climate change, George W. Bush's tax cuts, stem-cell research, campaign finance reform, supporting Reaganomics, etc.).
How can someone who flip / flops so much be credible?
You should read up more on him; here's McCain's opposition research from the 2008 primary.
Touche. For real though she's involved with some local CrossFits that I've had some run-ins with here and there. I knew about her a few years ago and thought she was pretty cute. Her current internet fame is strange and amusing though.
Commenters telling it like it is:
>She's an accomplished athlete, can bench press more than most people of either sex, but everyone is falling all over themselves to talk about how cute she is?
Thanks for the compliments everyone!
If you're wondering about the process I first cut out the the characters in Photoshop, animated them in After Effects, rendered a movie, imported that into Photoshop again and made a GIF. They're pretty heavy for GIFs, usually around 500-700kb, but I'd rather have them big, long(time) and with as many colors as possible. From scan to GIF it takes about 6 hours to complete thirteen of them.
Looks like Buzzfeed picked it up :)

He already addressed some of that in his AMA.

She's a comedian. And I think that, yes, he's trying to play it off.... which is sad. He's just trying to get 'that' viral video, but just doesn't get it, that viral videos come and go without being forced. Forced meme's never work.

Ugh, this is ridiculous. I made a post on buzzfeed about this to spread the word further.
Try to contact Revlon and post on their facebook page - they're the ones who will respond to this.
Not always the case, actually. America's top female weightlifter can't get sponsorship.
And furthermore, there is still a huge number of sports that women just don't compete in. Most televised team sports are generally all male. (Tennis being the one exception I can think of off the top of my head)
So "applauded" isn't the word I would use.
If you're talking about why Runescape went down yesterday it was because of the leap second in time, bringing down more than half the internet in a matter of 1 second. Read here.
So a bit more info for those who might want it:
The film is a dutch production, and was made and bankrolled by 23 year old Willem Breure. He says it was inspired by his own attraction to teenagers: recently, he said, he'd come to realize that he was attracted to girls as young as 15. He wanted to explore whether this attraction was truly pedophilia. Making the movie, he said, taught him that "there is a difference between the public definition and the real definition of pedophilia".
One of the most prominent people being interviewed is professor Dick Swaab, a popular and very respected biologist and neurobiologist who until 2006 was director of the Dutch Institute for Brain Research of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.
Professor Corine de Ruiter is a psychologist who often appears on dutch national television to popularize science.
All in all it seems like the documentary explores the attraction to and molestation of children throughout history as well as the current sexualization of young models from a a scientific rather than a purely emotional perspective.
TL;DR Do you find her attractive? The model used is 14, so if yes, does that constitute pedophelia?

Buzzfeed (I know) says that the chant was by Romney supporters to drown out Ron Paul supporters obnoxiously yelling, "point of order".
Even if that was the case, they chose to do this during a [email protected] politician's speech, literally silencing her with their bullshit instead of restraining themselves like fucking adults and letting security take care of the Paul dipshits.
Does shit like this (or the incident with the camerawoman) ever happen at the Democratic convention? It seems like sketchy crap occurs at every GOP convention.
I went to McDonalds in Madrid only once, on the last day I lived there...just to have a filet o' fish and a beer. You're quite right - dead consistent.
The fun thing about McDonalds, of course, are the international foods - the ones unique to a country. My favorite in the UK was the "McTrifle." A bit ago, BuzzFeed put together a list of McDonalds items not available in the US "that should be." Some of them look pretty tasty.
Used to cost me $25 every 5 years to renew my class D license. Now it costs $50. The same for my vehicle registration, used to be $30 every two years, now it's $50. Not doubled, but significantly more than it was.
Also, all of these.
No, let me just say, I don't necessarily think he was out of line in doing this, but the fact remains: he didn't magically enact a bunch of stuff and raise revenue to pay for it. He did raise revenue, which is fine with me, but a dirty word in republican circles.
