IFTTT - If This Then That. It's a free platform that lets you connect just about any event or action to any other event, action, or app. So for example, if I want every new Tweet by my friend Bob to be saved to my Evernote, IFTTT can do that. If I want to get an email or text alert at 7am each morning if it's going to rain that day, IFTTT can do that.
I use it to get email alerts on all kinds of things, to save all kinds of things, and to connect tons of apps on my phone and desktop to other apps. It's really, really useful.
Haha. If your friend uses an IFTTT recipe to change his background, I'm sure he got it, cause I also got it. x)
Edit: Here is the recipe
>switch from data to wifi when I get home
I'm seeing a bunch of existing "recipes" for that. I don't use any of the location-based applets currently, but have used them a lot in the past.

Here are some of the active applets on my IFTTT account:
Why do I feel bad for laughing?

Not the same, but another interesting thing is to use an IFTTT applet to keep an eye out for premium apps that go free.

I think most Stoic advice on procrastination is unhelpful, because, like nearly everyone else, Stoics tend to view procrastination as a character flaw (laziness), or as evidence of a lack of motivation or discipline, to be addressed primarily through willpower.
But recently, psychologists have developed a more helpful theory: procrastination is a coping mechanism for strong negative emotions induced by a task. Essentially, we avoid that which makes us uncomfortable. The solution, according to this theory, is to develop better emotion regulation skills, such as distress tolerance. (Here's a decent non-paywalled article on the idea.)
If you think of procrastination this way, then Stoicism has a lot to offer, because Stoicism 101 is dealing with negative emotions.
>If there is any external thing that causes you distress, it is not the thing itself that troubles you, but your own judgement about it. And this you have the power to eliminate now.

I use a IFTTT macro that updates my phone's wallpaper every time there's a new hot post on r/earthporn
Edit: this is the macro. I think you can get a version for iOS but I don't know how locked down the Apple software is.
https://ifttt.com/applets/HviycJZ9
And for the record, you can edit this or make a new one to pull from the MET and other site regularly.
https://ifttt.com/ is also a way to do it.
Edit: So Relemsis below me figure out how to apply this website for however you guys are asking.
"Ok, just got it. You set up the search on Google Alerts, have it show whatever, and then you create a "feed" and then you put that feed into ifttt as the if statement and put gmail as the then statement and have it delivered to your G-mail."
Don't forget Alt+PrintScreen to get only the currently focused window 😁
I personally have been using https://getgreenshot.org/ for about 5 years or so and it is still one of my favorite. It can replace PrintScreen with a snipping tool that then allows simple edits like adding text, colored rectangles or arrows (amongst other features). Very useful for quick sharing!
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
Create some IFTTT craigslist alerts for those types of tires and rims being sold in your area.
If it's happening on a regular basis they've gotta be selling them somewhere nearby.
Some examples:
Of course, nothing will be directly available. Developers need to build these connections and the API sets up the framework for this.

Here's the RSS feed for hobojet http://hobojet.com/feed/
Here's an IFTTT that can email you when keywords in an RSS feed appear, so you can be notified by email when your city shows up https://ifttt.com/recipes/2538-rss-keyword-email-alert
Just some fun facts.
It's against tickettailor's terms of service to use their website to host events which are "threatening, defamatory, obscene, indecent, seditious, offensive, pornographic, abusive, liable to incite racial hatred, discriminatory, menacing, scandalous, inflammatory, blasphemous, in breach of confidence or in breach of privacy."
If you believe that any event violates this rule, they request an email to be sent to [email protected] with a link to the event.
Just some fun facts!
So lemme introduce you to Jira. Jira is the software CIG and many other companies use to track work. If you've used Trello before you'll be familiar with the basic concept.
Jita was originally created as a customer support ticketing system, so the word "issue" is a legacy holdover from that time. Issues in Jira just means "thing to do". In softwareland parlance if we wanna write up a task that could be completely unrelated to a problem (like, say, add animated cat gifs on the website) that would be called writing a ticket or writing an issue. It doesn't mean there's a problem. Hence why the things are listed as tasks, and some are listed as bugs.
You have to ask him again.
But seriously, first you have to download the IFTTT app, and the use the correct recipe, I think this is the 'recipe' he's talking about
There's a great IFTTT recipe that does this anytime there a new top post in this sub. I have been using it for sometime and it is pretty cool to have some new, random, beautiful place show up every couple of hours
Edit: clarifying that this is for Android. Not sure if there's one for iPhone.
Check out c38sg.com. We run busses from the Celtic in downtown for every match with free beer for $12, have a all you can eat (and drink) tailgate starting 3 hours before every kickoff for $10 and tickets to the match as low as $25. Tickets can be bought here. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/centennial38
I've posted this before, in another story, but it was a bit late and didn't get much attention, so I figured I'd put it up again. It is an IFTTT recipe that will send you an SMS whenever /u/Alistair9000 posts to FPS. The mighty Beetusbot and his orangereds are all well and good, but sometimes I have the audacity to attempt to do more then sit on reddit all day, and am late to a story. This helps fix that.
See, I also love the idea of GUI-assisted programming, but there's more that they do wrong than what they do right. I'm a pretty seasoned programmer myself and when Power Automate Desktop became free to use for personal usage I was all over it only to be extremely frustrated with the interface and how I couldn't write out code myself without going to ridiculous lengths. A simple 80-step function that scraped a website and changed some values in textboxes took me over a day to do because of the clunky and unhelpful interface. (It did some other things too with sanitizing strings, hence the large number of steps)
Online searching is like any skill, you just have to learn how to do it. I used search engine cheat sheets when I started seriously combing the web.
It takes some getting used to but it's truly helpful when you can cut out search terms to help tone down the scope of your search.
Thanks for doing these! I made an IFTTT recipe to send a notification when you post a new one - grab it here.
There's only one logical next step.
Turn on all Hue lights in your home to that particular shade of purple whenever Dan starts streaming.
Because Apple has a lot of restrictions, compared to Android where you can modify and change almost anything if you'd like.
The primary feature of the app isn't to set a background wallpaper on your phone. It's intended to be used as a 'if this, then do that' app which basically gives it an endless list of things that it can do. You can find loads of recipes for iOS here, if you'd like.
I've made an IFTTT recipe for this. It notifies you by email whenever a new post is made on this subreddit. You can set it up with your email here.
That blows.
Here's my recommendation: Spin up some quick landing pages using modern software, like Shopify (for e-commerce), Instapage (for lead forms, coupon entry, etc.), Wyng.com (for promotions, quizzes, sweepstakes, etc.). You can get a lot done in a couple of days. Use Zapier.com if you need to connect things to your existing CRMs, systems from these sites - it's also easy for a non-dev to use.
Here's why:
1) You can control all aspects of these things in marketing, barely needing IT.
2) You can have less stress knowing you have at least something to drive traffic to.
3) Even if you're maybe going to have something formal ready for the date, building these out will teach you what you want and don't want from landing pages.
We wanted to make sure all of your reddit folks knew about some IFTTT recipes which plug in OneNote & reddit together: https://ifttt.com/recipes/150458-save-upvoted-reddits-to-onenote Please try it out! -James
I see some internet idiots have joined in on this hilarious post. It's okay, though. I Googled for you.
>Inspect Elements lets you tweak the appearance and content of a web page, by adding temporary edits to the site's CSS and HTML files. Once you close or reload the page, your changes will be gone; you'll only see the changes on your computer and aren't actually editing the real website itself.
So I have IFTTT set up to send me a notification for when something named Civ V AI Only World Domination is posted to this subreddit. It sent one. I was so excited.
Please continue this soon. I've already begun to get sick, and I fear the hype may kill me.
My favorite and most used recipe: Pushbullet notifications for Paranoid Android Google+ posts You'll have to add PA (or your favorite ROM developer) to a new circle on G+ and enable email notifications for that circle.
Notify me when a kernel update is available. This recipe is set for Franco's Nexus 5 kernel. Modify it to suit your needs.
Not trying to diss your program or claim lack of validity, but wouldn't mind seeing this 'program'? As u/tofu89 said, more interested in the github than the Spotify link. There has been an app / online tool that has been doing this for all top posts on r/listentothis , for quite some time. Just download "IFTTT" and sub to this: https://ifttt.com/applets/321850p-add-top-posts-from-the-reddit-r-listentothis-subreddit-to-a-spotify-playlist
What is stopping me using this, to create a playlist, and then editing it to only 50 songs each few days and then claiming it as a "I created this program and here is the playlist"?
I have both. I prefer Spotify over Apple Music to find new songs and artists. I personally think Apple really lacks in that department. But if you need help transferring items from iTunes to Spotify, there are applets that will do that such thing. You just have too look. Try looking through https://ifttt.com.
My Discover Weekly is usually on point. Sometimes I forget to star or move a track over to a saved playlist. I now have a IFTTT script that saves all tracks to a playlist so I don’t miss a beat.

Jira is an issue tracking tool and is used for software product management (for agile). It's a way to help track what individual members of teams are doing at any one time. We use it for lots of projects and it has lots of plugins that make it rather powerful.
There are only a few instances that I can think of that would require extra experience and then the experience would be for people in IT not JIRA.
APPS-1270 looks a lot like the way you would format a JIRA ticket. For those that don't know, JIRA is one of the most popular ticketing systems for software engineering. If this is the case there was a project with a short name of "APPS" and "1270" would refer to the issue number.
Someone would have opened a ticket in APPS, that says something like "write a script that can send a post to the top of /r/all" So the person wrote said program, and included the ticket name.
Also the subreddit is a private one called /r/QABuddyReddit ... QA stands for Quality Assurance. My guess is they tested this on the Development server, and it worked. Next step was to test it on Production. They used a Private QA server, and though they would see it get lots of upvotes, and that would be the final test before using it on "real" posts. However, either the subreddit wasn't private at the time, or /r/all is coded in such a way that it ignores private servers when calculating what shoud go on the site.
I think they showed their hand, but it's ok as this will go down the memory hole, and now they know the code works. Expect to see it used on posts, but with actual content.
I love these so much! (I created an IFTTT trigger to alert when these are posted.) Thank you for posting these, /u/ChrysWatchesGot!
Here's the website: http://www.meethue.com/en-US Basically, you plug a little base station in to your router and then the lights communicate with that. Then when you're on your network you can do all kinds of crazy set ups. What's really cool is when you can create one side of the room as totally red and the other side as totally blue (or something similar).
If you really want to get crazy with it, check out https://ifttt.com/ You can set up all kinds of automated triggers for your lights. For example:
I know this is /r/trackers, but for alot of the odder shows, you are better off on usenet. You can integrate it into sonarr. https://sabnzbd.org/ or https://nzbget.net/ . Then get a indexer (10 $ for lifetime), then wait for a deal on usenet provider for about 1 $ a month. Or get a block account if that suits you better, 1 $ per 500 gb or so.
The nzg client will be the download client like deluge in sonarr, and the indexer will be where you set trackers in sonarr.
For this build, I used:
IFTTT.com is the main integrator between the Echo and all the other systems except for the lights (they integrate with the echo out of the box). The dead giveaway is that if I say “Trigger” as part of my voice command, it’s activating an IFTTT recipe/workflow. Basically, IFTTT add takes an input from action, in this case, a voice command from the echo, and kicks off a predefined workflow.
The setup isn’t too bad, the biggest annoyance is adding each of the services logins to each other. Here are the steps I took from a VERY high level
Happy to go into more detail if you want.
.... Yes you can.
IFTTT and a bunch of similar apps are out there that allow you to schedule tasks based on your GPS location. You could set a job to send a text when you leave the office every night very very easily.
No tracking. No need for you to check up on him. The same text he would write by hand just automated.
If you use IFTTT, you might be interested in this. It's a recipe I created to text you whenever /u/Gambatte posts something in /r/talesfromtechsupport.
Document every fix you come across. This helps you learn/remember things and everyone loves the person who keeps documentation.
They'll likely have a Sharepoint/Wiki/folder full of documentation for you to work from as well. If there's something missing or needs updating - do that.
Write your documentation so that someone with no knowledge of the problem could read it, follow it and solve the issue.
https://getgreenshot.org/ - this tool is pretty great for screenshotting/annotating images.
Entry level tech is a great way to start your career - most of the issues you encounter just take a bit of Googling and common sense to fix.
If it's something you have to escalate, find out if your escalation point is happy to share the solution with you.
Before you ask for help, try some things to fix it. Let your escalation point know what you've tried as well.
Counterpoint: It wouldn't be that hard to deploy a JIRA, the professional license for which starts at US$10 a year. And there are lots of people here who'd be happy to volunteer to help out with it.
I'd just like to see this sub be something other than postings about known bugs over and over and over.
This. Think like smart fridges and lightbulbs and stuff.
Somewhat related if you already have a bunch of that kind of stuff this is a good site for getting them to talk to each other: https://ifttt.com/
I've always liked the post Build Yourself a Redux as the best example of a "build a mini Redux" genre.
Also, our new "Redux Fundamentals" core docs tutorial walks through the underlying concepts and how to use Redux logic from the ground up, and I'd encourage folks to read through it. Among other things, it shows both a mini working version of a Redux store in about 25 lines, and how UI layers like React-Redux handle subscribing to the store and updating the UI.
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.

Our mini is in the kitchen, and by far the thing we use the most is adding a task to Wunderlist. I used this IFTTT applet.
We have it set so we just say "Hey Google, we need carrots" and it gets added to our shared grocery list.
I was wondering wtf was my wallpaper as I thought it was a regular christmas wallpaper. (I use IFTTT that automatically changes my phone wallpaper to whatever is on hot page.)

Here's some stuff I've done with IFTTT:
If you look on the IFTTT site there's lots of stuff to do with connected devices like Hue lightbulbs or smoke detectors or fitness trackers. You can also trigger quite complex things with SMS messages which can be handy.
There's a Reddit channel so you can get pinged when something specific happens, like your favourite movie star does an AMA.
1) Log into your bank on a laptop/PC before you have a girl over
2) Edit the text of the site to make it appear you're loaded ($50k in chequing, $100k savings, $100k limit credit card(s), something like that, other wealth in the form of stocks, additional accounts, investments, property, etc. are assumed)
3) Leave it open long enough that it would ask for a password if you tried to go to another page
4) When the girl shows, after a while, ask her to put some music on, from the computer in the next room, you just have to go brush and floss or some excuse.
5) She'll see the bank open and likely snoop
6) Check for attitude change when you return
Note: this is purely for humor purposes. I am not recommending or condoning using this to deceive gold diggers into fucking you. For laughs and social science only!
my suggestion: there's probably a way to use IFTTT and garmin/fitbit/strava to have an automatic tweet come out every time you complete a workout with a tweet saying "just did a [exercise type] workout!".
Once she sets it up, she only has to remember to log the workouts in her app, and it will automatically get tweeted to the world! for extra privacy she can include a delay so people don't try and work out her schedule.
Requires no effort at all and if she uses a special twitter account dedicated to the workout, it'd be really motivating to see the tweets pile up.
Of course, if she wanted to go all out and provide metrics, the tweets could provide all the details - but I know that's not who she is.
Looks like the little bit left in the back (that’s still green) is alive, everything else is dead. Succulents do not do well with frost and the leaves that have frozen will not recover. That little bit left, however, has a 15 year root system that should come back well.
I use an app that emails or texts me when it’s going to freeze so I can bring my plants inside.
Here's an IFTTT recipe that sends you a text each time the good captain posts a story. For those of us who enjoy his stories as much as I do :)
Here's an IFTTT recipe that will send you an email for the next one in case you get tired of waiting. You can also tweak it to send an SMS to your phone.

Does this mean you won't penalize users who connect from more than one IP simultaneously -- i.e.: if a user has a VPS or Dedicated Server in one location, and also downloads from home?

Define "Huge retention". 2100 Days? 2400 Days? 2700 Days? 3600+ Days?

Your site is secured by Let's Encrypt. While I have nothing against Let's Encrypt personally speaking, I have to question your certificate. Is it provided by yourself or by who you're reselling for (which would possibly cause problems).
> No Tracking, Logless Access
In these cases, we generally have to take providers at their word regarding this. Some providers have established a reputation where we can take them at their word. However, you are new. Can you provide any evidence that demonstrates this?
It's called a Kanban board and it's a very popular and effective way to track work. It is not a replacement for project management tools like Gantt charts or Microsoft Project.
Basically, you set up four columns: TODO, Blocked, In Progress and Complete. When you get a new ticket/bug/feature in the queue, it goes into TODO. Whatever you're working on at the current moment gets moved to In Progress. If you get stuck on a ticket due to an external factor (e.g. waiting for another person to finish a depdency) you move it to Blocked. If you need to switch gears and work on something else, you move the ticket back to TODO. When the work is done it moves to Complete.
It's a very simple, easy to use and effective way of tracking tasks. Trello is popular because it's free and flexible- I'd say the main other competitor is JIRA, which is very expensive in both money and administration time (but has a ton of awesome features for large organizations).
CTO of a tech company called Zapier -- we literally depend on net neutrality to keep a healthy partner platform going with nearly 1000 different services (we are sort of like "legos for the internet" I suppose). Without net neutrality, there would be so much less diversity and competition that you'd never even have the problem we're solving (integrating your favorite services together) -- you'd have a completely different problem (none of your favorite services would exist).
We support net neutrality, we're proud to be a participant! https://www.battleforthenet.com/july12/#participants https://zapier.com/
Here, this might help! I've started creating IFTTT alerts for my favorite authors on Reddit, and /u/airz23 is now officially a member of that elite group.
You can set up IFTTT to do this for you. (It's free, I use it to automate quite a bit of things for myself.) Here is a link to the recipe you would need for new post notifications https://ifttt.com/applets/235137p-reddit-new-posts-in-subreddit-notification
I work at IFTTT and I read this subreddit all the time! We're not too big of a team, just around 30 at the moment. We don't have a public list of upcoming Channels, but the best way to let us know what Channels you want is by submitting them at this link.
While that would be great, it isn't really what Google Home is supposed to be doing. It's mainly there to use other services, not provide services on it's own. Or in other words; MFP would be the one to support this, not Google Home. Iirc MFP isn't working with basically anything in that direction, not even via IFTTT.
There are several services you can use via IFTTT to log weight and such tho, MFP just isn't supporting it yet.
Great find!
I've found that using IFTTT to scour Craigslist for me is the best solution for this.
Just setup keyword based searches and it'll email you within ~30 minutes of posting on Craigslist.
Snagged an enclosed server rack using this method for $130.
I'm not drinking today!
For anyone interested /u/offtherocks made an amazing IFTTT Recipe that sends you a text when the daily check-in is posted! Pretty slick!
I just set up a series of these and prefer android notifications to email. An example of that is this.
Awesome idea tho!
There is a solution for this problem:
“-site:pinterest.com”
Just remove the quotes and add that to the end of your searches. The results will omit anything that is from Pinterest.
There are a lot of other advanced options, so look them up if you want. Here’s a cheatsheet I found online: Advanced Google Search Cheatsheet
Hope this helps!
This was the first post created using something I made in IFTTT. All Polygon YouTube videos will post automatically to this subreddit now. Let me know if you don't like this! Or maybe it should be a generic account instead of my personal one. It seemed like a win-win-win to get folks to see and engage with the #content!
Here's an IFTTT 'applet' that notifies you on your phone when a certain word appears in the title of any post on whatever subreddit you define.
I use it to hunt for M.2 SSD deals.
Just modify the formula with what words and subreddit you're looking for.
When you are sharing things on Twitter, you can use the script I made, https://ifttt.com/recipes/389874-automatic-bernie-retweeter
This automatically retweets everything that Bernie tweets out! Yay!
Also, this (link to tos):
>You are responsible for all of your activity in connection with the Service and accessing the Site. You may not use the Site or the Service:
>(vii) to sell, lease, share, transfer, or sublicense the Service or derive income from the use of the Service in conjunction with IFTTT APIs or other web services, whether for direct commercial or monetary gain or otherwise, without IFTTT's prior, express, written permission;
So...Plan on them blocking your access to the service eventually and dealing with the multitude of headaches that come with it.
What's the idea though? Hit me in a PM or email () if you like! I might be able to provide some guidance...APIs and data mining are my bread and butter. And generally speaking - there's an open source library that's almost plug and play for every service that IFTTT integrates with. I'm also way too freaking busy to steal your idea!
It's too late to save past playlists—you have to go through each one before next Monday comes around or they disappear. In the future, though, try out this DW archive if you want to save your playlists from now on. Or just stay on top of the release schedule and make sure you save the songs you like before the new playlist comes out.
Yeah, whenever I post pics from my phone or camera, I always make sure to take a screenshot of the image (GreenShot is a great program!) before posting it, to ensure none of the EXIF is in there.
In the pics I keep, I like to keep the EXIF information, otherwise I'd just strip it out of all my picture folders.
For those that are beating their poor F5 buttons to death Here is a IFTTT recipe that will send a sms when /u/airz23 posts to /r/talesfromtechsupport.
They all appear to be moronic gimmicks too. "Transfer x% of my weekly pay" would have been vastly more useful than "transfer money when I post on Instagram"... ugh.
If you are open to scouring Reddit or other corners of the internet, you can often find great deals on lightly used, only tried on, and NWT bras. I’ve gotten some NWT and unworn bras for as low as $5 plus shipping.
Some good places to try on Reddit include /r/randomactsofbras and /r/braswap . You can also check the listings section of Bratabase.com.
I made an IFTTT recipe to automatically notify when a bra is listed on Reddit. you can clone it and change the parameters to suit what fits you. Check it out:
New bras in your size on /r/braswap https://ifttt.com/applets/433432p
Find bras in your size for free on Reddit's r/RandomActsOfBras https://ifttt.com/applets/433359p
Don’t despair. Happy hunting!
Neither I nor the friend of mine who recommended Worm to me use either Facebook or Twitter.
I'd much rather that the new site incorporate a simple subscription feature; it's a relatively simple feature to add. And afterwards, it's easier for Wildbow than having to remember to post updates in more than one place. And as it actually is still powered by Wordpress (look at the very bottom of the website), whatever was used for Worm can probably be used again.
If you want email updates, If This, Then That has a RSS-to-email tool.
So basically RunDeck?
You should look into existing solutions, rolling your own is a massive effort. But to answer your question: You don't "need" JavaScript for simple web sites that reload the page on every action. JavaScript is used to make the page more interactive and faster - see how on Reddit, comments are saved instantly and you don't need to wait for a whole page load? That's enabled by JavaScript.
These days, web applications are often single page applications (SPAs), meaning there are no page reloads and all content is displayed and made interactive through JavaScript. These type of applications are what frameworks such as React, Angular or Aurelia are for. Instead of emitting a full HTML page, the backend would become a JSON API, which then is also accessible by other applications.
You could probably utilize Zapier and combine it with your email or have it send SMS messages. I believe you can get a free account that only has a few integrations:

I have an If This Then That recipe that texts me "Open your window." when the weather is below 71 degrees and it also texts me "Shut your window." when it is above 73 degrees.
There is a lot of cool things you can do with that website that also work with a lot of social media.
If this then that. It’s an app that automates actions based on different criteria you set up
“If there’s a new airdyne ad on Craigslist, then turn my Phillips hue lights red and email my mom.” Or something like that
IFTTT is If This Then That.
It lets you connect various web services together using "recipes."

I love this IFTTT recipe that /u/offtherocks made so I know when the check in is posted! Off to a show/fundraiser tonight which will be very fun, and the first time I've been there sober in the six years it's been running! Certainly won't be drinking!

I would love to be able to fire off notifications or events based on how many times I logged an item.
If I log 30 cups of coffee then call the paramedics! haha
If I log 12 beers then call an Uber cab to my location
If I log being upset more than three times a day then send me a notification with a random happy quote!

You need to set "-N" for Par2 Parameters, see here: https://sabnzbd.org/wiki/configuration/1.1/switches#par2cmdline
