You could get some frosted vinyl privacy film and cover the window on the bottom about 1/3 up. This way you don’t block the light and you still get the depth from the space back there.

For our guest room we have two twin beds that we put together with one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/EPHEDORA-Bridge-Twin-King-Converter/dp/B07KXXTDLR/
You could do the same with these and just get a giant strap to go around both mattresses.
When I was in college I bought a $125 mattress from amazon that came rolled in a box.
I used that thing for six years. Yep - even after I graduated college and had a well paying job. It served me so well.
If you want the amazon link I can track it down for you

Power cords carry higher voltage than A/V cords (like HDMI cables). I'm not an electrical engineer or general contractor, but they emit enough heat that it is considered a fire hazard to run them inside residential walls due to lack of air flow. Additionally, it is not up to building code to run such cords within walls.
Instead, you need to either have an electrician properly install wall outlets as needed, or use a type of kit that allows for the TV's power cord to plug into an 'outlet' on the wall, then the kit's to-code cabling runs down and allows you to connect to an existing wall outlet.
Something like this:
https://smile.amazon.com/Datacomm-50-3323-WH-KIT-Panel-Organizer-Solution/dp/B001PB7UVA/
As running power cords inside walls violates building code, if your house were to catch fire due to this it's possible your home owners insurance wouldn't pay out a dime.
Sleek Socket: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077NPK9GC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8C6jDb1KRZTHG
And perhaps a plant. But Sleek Socket really helps in my place. It's easier to hide cords when the ugly wall socket problem is solved.
The coffee table is probably from Amazon. I have the same one and love it.
Edit: as others have mentioned, here is the link.
I like it, except that chair hurts my butt and I find your lack of mouse disturbing, Storm Trooper.
As an alternative that can still tuck under the desk without messing up your aesthetic, have you considered a knee stool? Its white!

Thanks. It is Denver in the RiNo Arts District.
EDIT: I am tacking this onto the top comment because /u/OneEnglishGent asked about my design background and I shared with him my plans for my dream home.
From that comment:
"My father is an architect and I worked with him in high school for extra scratch; he has an amazing eye for design and use of space. I definitely know that his taste has certainly resonated with me in a big way. He and I actually designed a small open floor plan "urban cabin" together that I was going to build, but couldn't afford, hence this loft.
The bed was going to drop down like this."

I can't vouch for the quality and comfort of this one, but it's pretty similar to ours.
Edit: I apologize for linking you to a $700 chair. That's wild.
Ideally? Conduit in the walls.
Worst case? Something like this.

then this is the unit you need. it's affordable and well-designed. i could not find a single other record stand that had room for a receiver which was astonishing to me. only downsides are that it is frequently out of stock, and somewhat complicated to assemble. also, they don't have holes in the back panel for cords so i had to cut one myself.

12 live performance theaters within 12 blocks, 5 museums all within walking distance of each other. Tony Award winning Playhouse in the Park. Cincinnati Art Museum only displays a 3rd of their collection, much of it travels the world, it was established only a year after the Philly museum. Art Deco Union Terminal (Now 3 museums) and the Carew Tower Netherland Hilton Orchid bar are definitely must see. The Contemporary Arts Center as well 21C hotel museum are worth checking out as well. I highly recommend a weekend visit.
For those interested, I do rent it out via airbnb.com when I go camping and am away for work. It is in Denver in the RiNo Arts District, this isn't meant as an advertisement, as I never have a hard time finding airbnbers; I just thought it could possibly help out others in this community who may be traveling to this beautiful city.

For this build, I used:
IFTTT.com is the main integrator between the Echo and all the other systems except for the lights (they integrate with the echo out of the box). The dead giveaway is that if I say “Trigger” as part of my voice command, it’s activating an IFTTT recipe/workflow. Basically, IFTTT add takes an input from action, in this case, a voice command from the echo, and kicks off a predefined workflow.
The setup isn’t too bad, the biggest annoyance is adding each of the services logins to each other. Here are the steps I took from a VERY high level

If you search Amazon for something like “duvet set” you will get hundreds of options to search through, most of them with many colors.
So you can't actually buy it, but you can make it for really cheap! It's an IKEA desk top (Linnmon specifically) that I then painted black with just some interior paint ($5 from the paint store). Then I covered it with some wood grain contact paper from Amazon. You'll need to buy two of those which brings the total to around $50. I think it would help to have a second person for laying down the contact paper, but I managed fine by myself. If you look closely you can see the bottom border isn't quite straight but it's not super noticeable
Edit: Also, I personally am a big fan of black and maple finish but there's lots of different wood finishes available in that same paper so you could really pick any color/grain combination you want
Here's an inexpensive 4K tv on amazon that you might want to check out. I'm a broke college student too but I saved up enough and bought one a couple months ago and I think it's one of the best purchases i've made so far
Redeeming qualities: the desk and the raw wood floorboards. Besides that, pretty much everything has to change. Here are some suggestions:
Hopefully that's actionable and helpful.

hey op. I used to live in a place very similar to your kitchen setup. I ended up buying this ss prep table and it made a world of difference. with that app, you can play this same programming back in your house (its free.)
That said, you do need:
1.) Nanoleaf Panels (Aurora/Canvas/Shapes.)
2.) An Android or Chrome device
I’m making ios and desktop versions as well.
edit: whered you get that nice jacket for your snoo?! 🙃
Maybe this on amazon is more in your budget?
looks like this
Try a faux Vintage Persian. It will pull from the colors of the throw, lighten the room and contrast all the straight lines of in the room.

Absolutely. Here's some handpicked from my bookshelf:
From the first shelf: Hunter S. Thompson anything and everything (Except for Hunter by E. Jean Carroll - worst "biography" ever... Bullshit facts based on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, while well written and certified hilarious, is no book to accurately go by. Spicing up the truth with a few alleged facts is what gonzo is all about... But that's what the idiot author did here. Was Edmund Muskie addicted to ibogaine like Hunter claimed? No. Nor was Hunter dropping acid everyday like in Fear and Loathing... I met his widow Anita recently and she only saw him visibly intoxicated twice while he was around. I'll get rid of that piece of crap book one of these days.)
Second shelf: 9/11 Synthetic Terror and George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography by Webster Griffin Tarpley, ISIS: Inside The Army Of Terror by Weiss and Hassan, If This Is A Man and The Truce by Primo Levi, "What Do You Care What Other People Think?" and Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! by Richard Feynman, Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo by Oscar Zeta Acosta, The Center of the Cyclone by John C. Lilly (which also happens to be lovingly signed by him)
Third Shelf: Ayahuasca Reader by Luna and White, Alvar Aalto Houses by Jetsonen and Jetsonen
I would use brushed gold/brass like these or similar. It'll pop really nicely against the grey without being shiny, and it's neutral enough to be masculine with that color scheme or feminine if it was on another.
They're really popular right now too, and they'll also accentuate the warmth of the butcher block countertops. I would not do white because the whole room is warm tones and white would be too jarring.
Can also blend it in with something like this: One-Cord Channel Cable Concealer - CMC-03 Cord Cover Wall Cable Management System - 125" Cable Hider Raceway Kit for a Power Cord, Ethernet Cable, Speaker Wire - 8X L15.6in, W0.59in H0.39in, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D8WVJWF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GKoEDbCEG26T6
I actually only have those window height blinds you often see for like sliding glass doors,I don’t know how else to describe them. But yes that was one of my next steps!
And you can find the canvas’ on Amazon

It's just a par can light with barn doors. You can find tons of similar ones for quite cheap. Quick amazon search yielded this.
Replace that frilly bed skirt with one that is flat
When you put it on, take your time and lightly iron the bedskirt on the proper heat setting for the material.
A flat dark grey bed skirt will look better than a wrinkly cheap white one like what you have now.
You need to take a closer look on your next pass through Cincinnati. I think it is one of the finest cities in America!
https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipMptYih2so20dNUPHA62wq-_vU4Y5ZPUOgm3SEB
Agreed. I think some softer materials would help. Even adding a large rug, pillows on the couch and maybe even some big wall hangings would not detract from the minimalist vibe. If anything I think it would enhance it because of the contrast. Also agree that you need some more light. Torchieres would help, and maybe even some floor spot lights in places could look cool. Iv’e done them behind large house plants, especially ficus trees and it looks fantastic.
Something like this: Kiven LED Accent Uplight with Foot Control On Off Switch, Handheld Sized Portable Spot Light, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F6T9FS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NZ0PR0AGJ2AXYPT6F1R5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They’re one of those mass manufactured ones that are sold in a lot of places, here’s one link
I work at a bike shop (side jobs with discounts ftw) so it came at a substantial discount through the shop, but you can pick one up for pretty damn cheap on Amazon! :)
Yeah no problem, it's this one here
Unfortunately it's a bit of an investment as you can see! Basically it fills your bedroom with 'natural' light gradually (over 20 mins or so), to simulate waking up to a sunrise. And then it can do the same at night time, where it'll fade out to help you sleep to a sunset.
And it's got birdsong, radio, gentle tunes etc to wake you up. I'd recommend it, but it works best when you sleep in a dark room, not sure how effective it would be in a room like this with those blinds, but I could be wrong. Also it works as a bedside lamp too, with levels of brightness if you need that.
Think about investing in one of these

I described my approach to planning and implementing personal projects(including this one) in the article: "Step by step I follow my goal. Planning of personal goals, projects, tasks.". Hope this will be helpful...
I agree w this but you could also add large floor plants to break things up if you don’t want to change/acquire different furniture. I like the plants you have but a large plant in a corner here or there would breathe life into the space.
Also, I like to put floor plants on these stands bc they are cheap and sturdy Flexzion Plant Stand Wood Mid Century Modern Flower Pot Holder Home Decor 12"/ 30cm (Birch/Pot Not Included) Unique Wooden Indoor, Yard, Outdoor, Vintage Garden Decor, No Nails & Screws Assembly https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0871Z5FPW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JAEQTNS0SRMEZE2WF1TF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Custom framing is absurdly expensive. While it sometimes puts limits on the stuff I'm able to hang on my wall, I only use premade generic frames for now, until maybe someday I can afford custom. If you have something that is oddly shaped that won't fit in a generic frame from target, I recommend considering a floating frame or a magnetic poster hanger!
Ignore the negative comments--your chair is great. You may decide to recover it some day, and it has good lines. To your question: I'd go with a bold red persian-inspired design. Kind of like this:
Don't worry about matching. It'll work as you add more pieces. Also, be bold or go home. Haha.
I was thinking the same thing. I saw the thumbnail and opened the link without reading the title. When I saw it I thought oh must have been /roomporn but when I checked it was not. It's the black, white, purple and glass/reflective surfaces mix. With addition of the sheen from the curtains make it look, well, feminine. If this room was a person it would be this. Walnut instead of black, less shiny things and heathered maroon instead of purple would imo help it to look more masculine.
Edit for clarification: I'm not saying this person can't have his place the way he likes it or that he doesn't have the right to post it here. I was just stating my opinion on why it looks feminine to me.
It doesn't look like you can buy from that site, here it is on amazon
Do you mean these string lights?
I'm guessing it's a rental so you can't use any nails, screws, or anything which will mark the walls?
If so, I'm in the same boat. I've been using some picture hanging strips which are basically like a velcro that goes on the wall. So far it's held my frames up for months in my last place and in this one. When it came time to leave the last one the frame pops off the wall easily, and then you stretch the sticky part of the hanging strip to make it release (there are fully instructions on the pack). I can highly recommend them.
This post is an ad (image on shutterstock). Look at op's post history, or just the username.
I'm not saying this picture might not be good for inspiration or something, but it's a 3D rendering, and probably no advice needed.
I used Sweet home 3D. Its free, open source, very easy, you don't even need to read tutorials or youtube videos.
It's really great to plan where to put your furniture.
I understand thinking that you don't need anything else, but a 44,000+ rating Zinus 8" Memory Foam/Cooling Queen mattress is a little less than $300, and it doesn't even require a a box spring or any kind of bed frame.
Given the prayer mat, I'm going to assume there is some religious component to your desire to not "add anything", but you're honestly doing your body a disservice by at least not getting a proper sleeping surface.

didn't wanna break the bank with the island but i definitely needed more room for prep, this is the perfect size for me and it was cheap/sturdy/easy assembly. i recommend
Amazon Modway Render Mid-Century Modern Low Profile 59 Inch TV Stand in Walnut https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078K9RK45/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_pReZFbTKXY6PS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Wayfair has a similar one but I think this one is cheaper.
Purchased the foam blocks off Amazon for like $30 because I liked the maroon color. But you can get just grey ones for cheaper. Though it looks like the ones I purchased and linked are currently out of stock.
They really did help the room become less echoy and the room mate next to me said it helps block some sound, too.
You have 2 options-
1.) Although this is not the same as what you're looking for, you can get this on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0082CKXA0
2.) Get a mirror, have it sandblasted with the words TIME at the top, get a nice wooden frame for it.
Looks dope!
I'd recommend this projector for that massive wall. Amazon has it for $200 after discount
Plants and some cool art also.
Oh no! Hang in there buddy. 🥺
I’m not an expert on palms but it might be happy closer to the window. Or you could try out a clip grow light by your side table like this :

Space is looking great tho!
Yo bro.
Try cleaning up your cables. Amazon has some cool plastic hiders.
Also, try spacing the stuff on your walls a bit more. It's a bit congested. Other than that, not a bad college pad.
I bought this glass display coffee table - $150 off of Amazon and I love it. I wanted a display table to have books, knick knacks, remote tray, etc. underneath the glass while having the top open for drinks and other things. It looks great, very modern looking and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than other display tables on the market. It’s also on the smaller side so it’s good for smaller spaces.
Rug tape, my guy.
Like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0141L81GS
This stuff works great. Just careful when you pull it up. It’s sticky enough to pull up the surface finish layer on hardwood. If you don’t want to buy from the dark lord they sell other brands at places like Lowes and Home Depot too
You could also try an iron-on hemming adhesive. Just fold over the excess fabric and iron.

Something like this should work great to help it blend in a bit and not stick out from the wall.
Also, hello fellow Salt Lake-ian (I'm technically in Cottonwood Heights, but the PO occasionally decides I actually live in SLC for some reason lol)!
Night lamps in the mail.

It's the Steelcase Series 1. Turns out the little task chair I had from Wayfair was not going to cut it long term.
Thanks! I was going to do the inverse... but the thought of dirty white/cream sheets makes me cringe. I don't understand how others keep them clean over a long period of time without getting them dry cleaned.
I was really skeptical about this product (and thought of ordering bedding from Amazon), but I love this duvet.
Cliche Brooklinen sheets after constantly seeing their ads on the subway
I run really hot at night so the classic set is honest to goodness one of the most breathable sheets I've slept on. Could you find better quality, probably, but for the price point, I'm a huge fan!
My best friend got the sheep wool throw^(technically fleece) from her grandma. After three years of me wrapping myself init during every movie night in college, my friend gave it to me as a graduation gift :)
I got a rug similar to this one off of Amazon. I think the yellow and the white would look great in the room. The grey ties it back in to the rest of the room. Might be a little too loud for your tastes however.

Hey- thank you so much!
I love the blank canvas too :) It's peaceful. Thanks for the suggestions as well- That makes perfect sense!
I was thinking of grey sectional like this and a brown, wooden coffee table. If I did that, just a light color rug should do the trick, yeah?
Really, you could take something that has a TV and just replace it with extra seating and adjust tables and side chairs accordingly. It would essentially be the same thing. An AirBnB I stayed at a while back had a great living room where the TV was not at all the focus. It might as well not have even been in there.
There are a few rooms in this article that you could draw inspiration from as well.
I went by this CNET article when I bought a TV a few months ago: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-big-a-tv-should-i-buy/
What I discovered is that it's best to go as big as your budget allows basically, ended up with a 60" with about 11ft of seating distance and have had no complaints about it being too big.
