I used HomeStyler and was really pleased. All free. It lets you design the floor plan and do a 3D render with your wall and floor colors. Even lets you place furniture to get the sizing right. Many name brands which I'm guessing is how they keep it "free".
Do you have a homestyler account? If so, click here. Ignore the materials, etc. Just another way to think about wall and appliance layout. The bed is a foldout couch. https://www.homestyler.com/int/openShared?assetId=cafd36d0-10d1-4c2a-9e6c-963b6f8ad6e9
Hi - What a cool little program. I got a little carried away with it, as you can see at the link below. I'd leave behind one of the couches and the larger end table. If the buffet is to large for the living room space, you might be able to put it on the large wall by the kitchen for extra storage and counter space. Good luck with your move! Design
Here's the whole basement floor plan. I used www.homestyler.com and it was pretty awesome. I input the dimensions of the unfinished basement area and then went from there. You can add furniture, wall and floor color, and do a 3D walkthru. It really made visualizing it great. I ended up printing out the plan and handing it to the contractor. He took it from there. When it was pre-drywall, I ran all my CAT6 and speaker wire.
We also used IKEA planner for some rooms (PAX closets & kitchen), but for other rooms and better view on a whole space I definitely recommend Homestyler.
You can simply log in with Google account.
There's plenty of items in a catalog that can be adjusted by dimensions. You only need to measure your space.
If you know some basic architecture, you can use Homestyler online (and free) to make a mockup. You can even add furniture and render 3d images of it, which will probably help you describe the specifics of what his place looks like.
As an illustrator, I used this a few times back before I learned Sketchup.
I asked that a few months back. Got some good answers: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/blibzi/drawing_floor_plans/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I ended up going with https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan
I have tried to make a slightly different layout to compare the two.
The apartment currently has carpet that I tried to replicate in the living room, the two bookcases next to the TV would be display cases off glass.
In the bedroom corner there is a build in closet which I will probably keep too. There's also a build in little (cabinet?) above the toilet and washing machine.
Most furniture is basically a placeholder because I couldn't find the ones I saw in the Ikea. Also not sure if I will do the table thingy for the kooking plate or not.

Let me know what you think.
Tomorrow will be the last day I have internet until the 10th so I wanted to thank you for everything, I really appreciate it!
I'll be moving in begin April!
One of the nice things about the site I used for the render is that I can actually create multiple objects and play around with them.
I took the 2 TV models I was looking at (55" and 65") and placed them in the render and couldn't really tell a huge difference. I know it's not the same, but it's what I have on hand, you know? I really like the idea of taping the outline to the wall, especially since i'll be mounting them anyway. See this link for the render results of the TVs taken from the perspective of sitting in the sofa. 55" and 65".
At 7', it's really not a huge difference. It would be more of a difference from the table behind the couch
Right now I spend most of the time home downstairs since Arizona heat makes the upstairs a little hot without blasting AC and murdering my Electricity bill, so I do watch a lot of stuff on the TV while it cools down. Not necessarily 4k content, but I also have a steamlink set up and I have plans to get a PS4 in the future which will also benefit from the 4k.
I almost wish I could put it above the fireplace! I know how taboo that is here, but the Fireplace wall is a stucco/brick combo and I'm 99% it won't support a TV.
Here's a link for the site with my layout if you're curious.

The plan for me is to take a bunch of pictures this weekend and make a real "Help me figure out this layout". This is just preliminary.
I just moved and used this website to help me plan out placement of furniture, a fridge, TV, etc.: https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/?lang=en_US&assetId=e9f5d29c-6b7b-4055-94b2-a24b13dc41c7
It's free, browser based and pretty easy to use. In the top right there's a scale-able subwindow that acts as a first person camera so you can get a feel of how it will look. There isn't much choice for furniture items but you can change their dimensions (including elevation for wall mounted TVs, mirrors, etc.).
Hope that helps!
That could be very cool! You're thinking for the floor? There's so many great hexagonal tile designs out there and so hard to choose!
I like the exposed pipe system idea for the shower!
I saw someone else on reddit recommend https://www.homestyler.com/, found it way more intuitive to use then something like sketchup (although probably because its more limited)
Depending on the use case, even SketchUp might be a little overkill.
I was googling interior design software a while back for home reno, and was recommended 3ds max. Honestly, 3ds max and SketchUp probably gives too much freedom and capability, like does anyone need to design the exact profile of the base cap?
Anyway, I settled with this. Should be enough to see if things fit and a quick low res visualisation. Sketchup is certainly an option if OP needs some more granular control for customisation, but it would be more work.
Yeah no problem man! Thought it was much easier to show rather than tell. I'm pretty sure if you make a homestlyer account you can access the project I started: https://www.homestyler.com/openShared?assetId=2e434f59-bd12-4a9d-bc0f-d51e082b3ffd (it's free, I just login with my Google account). Once done you can change virtually manipulate anything you want, while also measuring the room and furniture for exact dimensions.
Regarding the furniture dimensions though:
Couch LxHxW: 2'8x2x'8x6'6 (You should be fine with anything less than 7'3 width
Rug: standard 5x8
Tv stand width 5'11
Bed: Queen
My girlfriend and I are finally buying our first home. After some savings due to COVID (we had to left our rented house) we finally could afford the downpayment.
We decided what we would like to buy, but after seeing it placed together in a render (we used HomeStyler free tier, super useful!) we think it might be too much wood.

We didn´t get the wood color right (tables and tv stand are a bit darker), but it was enough to give us an idea of the result.
The current installed floor is actually white tiles (as seen in one of the renders), we thought about replacing it with parquet.

We are still not sure what it is missing, but it doesn´t look right. (The furniture is an approximate)
What do you think about it? Is the first render actually too much wood? Or is it that the wood color does not match?
We are open to all suggestions. Floor, wall paint, furniture, distribution, etc.
Budget: 3k€ to 4k€
Location: Spain
I think they mean something simple and web based.
THIS Is one option, i haven't used it myself and i'm not sure if they have stuff you chose in the library (maybe you can find somethhing close enough.
But you can also look for architectural visualization artist who can custom model/buy your furniture and do some renders for you.
The background map was drafted with https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/ and the icons and network drawn out in photoshop. The rest is all just html/css in notepad++ making liberal use of dropdown menus.
A few people recommending the Sims, but there is free interior design software online as well.
I've been using HomeStyler, which is free. Maybe not fantastic for a retail setting but at least she can play around with walls and layouts and bookshelves and the like. And can use real-world measurements as well.
Somehow my post got lost I think? This is my first attempt at creating a cohesive space with the right furniture that fits the space, works well for my workflow (I work from home like many of us, so the table near the column will function as my desk). The pictures are just placeholders, and the glass shelves will actually be wooden. The door near the couch / window opens away from the room, but the door near the bed opens into the bedroom. Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
You can access the whole 3D diagram at https://www.homestyler.com/int/openShared?assetId=06385248-c80d-468c-bbcc-d28987817304, but you do have to create an account and go through some brief intro screens. You can use your google account to log in to speed up the process.
I used the site https://www.homestyler.com. It's by no means perfect but my wife and I were able to plan out kitchen fairly painlessly. The site takes getting used to and it doesn't have every option or style you may be looking for, but it did the job great for us.
Pretty hard to see what the room layout is from the pics. You might consider drawing it out in an online design tool like https://www.homestyler.com/int/. That can also let you play around with some layout options without having to move your furniture around.
It seems dumb but I’ve played around in a home styler website that’s great for simple room layouts, I’ve designed 50,000sqft grow facilities in it. homestyler not the app but the computer website.
oh thank you! definitely, here is the dwg file
I also was playing around with it on autodesk homestyler but not sure how you could use it

Need help with decor for TV wall and window wall. The room is really long, not sure I love the chairs on the ends, so any recommendations welcome!
the https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/
doesn't work anymore :(
now is https://www.shejijia.com/floorplan/ mandarim website i dont understand nothing
Thank you for your comment! I do have sufficient storage elsewhere but I think the other additions will make for some great improvements :)
I'm using Homestyler. It's available online for free: https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/- best of luckw with your planning!
With Cabin 2.0 I tried to improve as much possible. Your tipps were very helpful! What do you think about this design?
Do you have a measuring tape? Homestyler is easy to use and has a catalog of furniture to give you an idea of how everything fits. Dimensions are fully customizable as well.
https://www.homestyler.com/int/floorplan/?lang=en_US
This right here has been one of my best friends in designing floor plans. Lets you see the dimensions of your room, has lots of present furniture to drag and resize as you please and even has a 3d "walk-around" simulation type deal
For anyone who runs across this with the same first two questions, I found a great answer for the house layout. https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan Unfortunately you cannot make a second floor, but honestly its the best thing I have run across so far and I love it.
Thank you. My budget is moderate. As long as it makes it look good.
I forgot to mention two things: 1. We are going to put a murphy bed in the current TV stand area which is mounted to the pull and can be pulled down. It is much skinnier(13.75 inches than the TV stand. So we are definitely going to get rid of the TV stand. 2. We have the extra space area beside kitchen shown on the layout. Currently we set it up as an extra kid play area. I am thinking of converting it to a breakfast nook area and we can have dinner there too. So in this case we will get rid of the big dining table.
This is my design: https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/?lang=en_US&assetId=496081a6-4f58-419d-be88-7b7b4b3102ac
