sorry, my post was not really well thought out or worded. i have already done a good bit of thinking on this and tried two of the apps that others have written for the specific purpose
Exactly like Hers. I tried it out and wasn't really happy with how it looked. no, its not how it looks. it looks fine, but Since i don't want a news feed or the daily XKCD or biking weather tips it ends up being a clock that tells me to "Cheer up, Bud". As it is now her app only uses the top corner of the screen. i do, however, like the face recognition.
i have also tried His and i found it more useful. but the weather api gave me trouble and that is one of the main features i would like to have.
or possibly something with sound activation when i want to wake it up. Possibly google calendar, weather, and the time in a larger font.
Things i want it do show are:
Maybe i am asking to much, but since i have zero experience with writing apps, doing my own is probably not going to fly. i was thinking of trying widgets to accomplish all of it but i am not sure that will work either.
Get an android tablet. I got one on eBay for $50. Get a frame and two way glass. Install the Wall Mirror app on android tablet and set it to show what you want. I used an 8" tablet so I have a small magic mirror sitting on my makeup vanity which helps hide the cord although being a tablet I can use it wirelessly. Spent under $60 all told and coded nothing.
You would need some kind of connected device to display the information you're looking for.
What you need is hardware and software that would go along with a "smart mirror". Google smart mirror, you'll find plenty of ready to use Android and Raspberry Pi related projects.
I recently built a small 8x10 smart mirror with an old Nexus tablet I had laying around and used this app to display my information. It's kind of lacking in how I want the information displayed, but does a great job of simplicity. You could easily achieve this with some sort of Android HDMI stick.
I used this guy's app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ineptech.magicmirror
Pretty straight forward. Just get a tablet and a two-way mirror. Though I built my own oak frame.
if you search in the google store you can find some smart mirror programs like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ineptech.magicmirror&hl=en
