The star system is basicly a checklist of how many things the hotel has, not on the quality of things. A hotel I stayed at for example had a "gym", it was a old cleaning closet with exactly 1 exercise bike and 3 dumbells with some weights. That "gym" earned the hotel an additional star.

Never in a million years would I have thought I'd see my university (DePauw) mentioned here - it's a tiny private school in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.

I took that course, it was pretty awesome. The instructor was a student who had graduated a couple of years prior. He was Grandmaster, which I think was the highest tier at that time (not sure what it is now). We would watch him analyze replays vs other pros, and then he would hold live 1v1 matches between students and then go over their replays. The required reading was The Art of War. We would also meet on weekends and play massive games of Phantom, tons of fun.

That's because it isn't true. It depends on whether the stats are from total players or players in the last two weeks.

If it's total players, 10% of Singaporeans don't play Dota, it's 10% of Singaporeans have tried/downloaded Dota over its lifetime.

Otherwise, the numbers from the original graph here could be a break down of percentage of current players from each country over the last two weeks. This means that of all players in the last 2 weeks, Singapore makes up 1.1% of all players - that means it's ~101k players, or 1.8% of Singapore's population have played it in the past two weeks.

Stay farther away from your monitor

Try and take 'eye breaks' every hour or so, looking away from your screen and focusing on distant objects for ~30s.

Since you mentioned using Add-Ons. Another add-on which makes surfing much more secure is NoScript/ScriptSafe.
It disables all scripts on any websites by default. It may be a pain at the beginning white listing the sites you trust but you you don't run the risk of being a "drive-by download" victim. Also you never know what the scripts on dubious sites are doing. It also lessens your CPU usage and can make browser crashes less frequent.

If you want to be a bit more anonymous on the internet get ~~Ghostery~~ .
It disables trackers. One of the biggest trackers is probably facebook. If you visit a porn site and it has a facebook like button then facebook knows you visited that site (it doesn't matter if you clicked the like button or not). Facebook uses this information and sells it to others so they can give you better advertisement but who knows what else they are planning to use that information for.

Adblock is something you guys probably already know. It disables advertisement. Be sure to disable it when watching Dota 2 streams since they earn their money through ads.

I'm sure you've probably heard about it, but if you haven't then you might want to look into Pillars of Eternity. It's an upcoming isometric RPG styled after Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale and made by the same people.

In order to fit the old to the new MMR you have to compress the current MMR values. The new system has 7 tiers of 1000 rating each. The maximum rating you can get through calibration should be 6999.

Of course you can get more rating beyond 6999, but not through calibration.

I remember in HoN there was also a rank compression between seasons at one point. I googled and found this on one their season 5 update page:

The video player really didn't work well for me and I had to use livestreamer. It's amazing to watch the stream in VLC/MPC HC (I can use SVP as well for 144fps) and I can heavily recommend it.

Only keep in mind that adrev isn't a thing when using it as those are completely bypassed. So if you want to support the streamer have the stream open in a muted tab on low quality. Link: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases

After install you need to edit the livestreamerrc file and delete the "#" before the media player of your choice, edit the path to the media player and then restart cmd if you have it open and type in "livestreamer mlg.tv/dota best" without the " and your media player should start

The actual video quality isn't increased by much except the scaling is usually done quite well in VLC/MPC HC/video players in general but especially the cpu usage goes down a LOT because the mlg player is 100% flash. I heavily recommend livestreamer for lower end systems.

If you are experiencing audio sync problems on the main EN stream here is a solution.

Step 1, have VLC installed

Step 2, install https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases

Step 3, go to run, type "livestreamer.exe twitch.tv/dotastarladder_en source"

Once in VLC adjust audio delay to 400~500 by using the hotkey "K" for + and "J" for -

You messed up on the math for CK.

Its a 10%, not 11% chance to crit. It turns out it changes your average damage increase from 20.0% (2.00 * 0.10) to 17.5% (1.75 * 0.10). So a loss of 2.5%, however if you look at armor values, it adds up that this change helps him when enemies have armor values between about ~~-26~~ -16 and about 188.

If you want to see a graph of it here shows the exact values.

Red line = 6.85 damage, Blue line = 6.84 damage, Black line = default damage, X = armor values, Y = percent modifier, black dotted line = 6.85 damage - 6.84 damage, C = crit level.

Edit: After restarting Dota the hitboxes are set back to normal. Is this some kind of bug that is connected to something else?

Edit2: I figuered out how to fuck the hitbox up: Use DragonKnight in Herodemo, skill him to 16 and use ult (this step might not be necessary), leave Herodemo. Watch the replay and the hitbox will be way off. This might also happen, if you play a game with or against a DK and in the next game it might be fucked up!

There's always a bug you didn't foresee. Valve Broke The Computer Thingie is a very wide class of things. Sure, you could foresee coordinator downtime, but could you expect it to misreport the status of matches that you were actively trying to automatically track?

Take a breath, and write a blameless postmortem - it's not your fault, it's not your admin's fault, it's not Valve's fault, it's a situation that happened only because a chain of events, each of which individually should not have happened, any one of which could have stopped the accident had they gone differently, instead went in a direction that caused the accident. Blame blinds you to opportunity: what would have made these aligned mistakes less likely? What can you (as a programmer, as an individual, and as an organization that isn't Valve) do to make this alignment of mistakes less likely? What other layers could have prevented this alignment of mistakes from mattering? What similar alignments of circumstances are lurking nearby, now that you're looking at this as an entire system that collapsed, not mistakes that people should be taken to task for? No sense in going after the people involved -- after all, of everybody in the company, you folks are the ones least likely to make the same specific error again.

Here's the real reason. There's no server hosts in SEA that Valve works with yet.

Explanation: I worked at a large company that used a lot of computing. It was actually cheaper to use cloud host services by Amazon, since they do a great job at it. Thus we didn't need to keep physical servers and can scale up or down with ease. So places that have Amazon servers usually have dota servers at their location, since it's pretty easy to set up.

99% of what you said is good advice but PLEASE don't use Ghostery; if you leave the box checked for "send anonymous usage statistics" then they sell your data on which ads you block to advertising companies. Even if you do uncheck that box I've still been soured by that revelation and now use , a much better extension that respects your freedoms.

I posted almost exactly this same thing in a previous thread asking what people do, but I make mobile apps (including games) for a living. I made a small Christmas/Winter themed snowball throwing game if anyone wants to check it out here for Android or here for iOS. Meanwhile, Valve's VAC and banning system is as old as Steam is and it's pretty much not up to a modern way of making sure people who harass get banned persistently.

• Terrorblade has enough time to use manta style twice during a level 4 metamorphosis.
• You can activate some invisibility skills (such as Shadow Walk) during your TP/other channels.
• You can target with Death Ward.
• You can still be denied under a level 1 Venomous Gale.
• Dropping items that provide mana before regenerating a fixed amount of mana leads to greater absolute mana regen (once items are picked back up). Most commonly used for bottle/soul ring/arcanes/magic stick/magic wand. Same applies with HP.
• Giving a bottle to a teammate that has immediately TP'd from the fountain will refill the bottle.
• You need to be within 500 units of a lane creep to aggro it.
• Gyrocopter's Call Down provides vision; this is useful for getting a little more out of your Flak Cannon attacks in the jungle.
• Gyrocopter's Rocket Barrage and Enigma's Demonic Conversion apply to siege creeps.
• The minus armor from Desolator and Assault Cuirass applies to buildings as well.
• If you're on the same team as OD, you can see an orange circle expanding from the center to the outside of his Astral Imprisonment. A level 4 Astral ends once the orange circle reaches the outer circle.
• You can squeeze in a right click during Shadow Walk's fade time. The right click gets the bonus damage.
• You can bring enemy heroes closer to your team during Reverse Polarity by first turning towards your team (because your opponents end up in front of Magnus).
• You can get some decent, free HP regen by buying a ring of health and then selling it before the full refund timer expires. Repeat this for some easy regen in side lanes.

try using Open Broadcaster Software and then googling some settings. it's a much better program IMO and it's free with no watermarks. it's mainly used for streaming though so us it however you want.

The current level of shadow strike effect as default on her ulti. Better attack animation too.

Currently my only success with qop has been in the offlane with shadow strike at lvl 2/3 and constantly spamming it to get some proper harass going. I don't bother with her ulti till lvl11 though.

Edit 2: another thing, I believe dota2 applies DoT spells per second as opposed to HoN's constant application. Is this common for all dot abilities? Part of the reason Hag is so much stronger is slow and disables are much stronger in HoN.

HoN has a 1 lane map too, but i think it's far superior to LoL's as it actually has a jungle and interesting routes aorund it which are more similar to the actual map.

For any custom game creators, there's a whole website of free-to-use, easily-customizable icons for games. A really popular roguelike, ToME 4 incorporates them for basically everything. With some uniform colours for ability trees (green for support, red for damage, etc.) and maybe some gradient shading for style, you can convey a lot of information.

The video player really didn't work well for me and I had to use livestreamer. It's amazing to watch the stream in VLC/MPC HC (I can use SVP as well for 144fps) and I can heavily recommend it.

Only keep in mind that adrev isn't a thing when using it as those are completely bypassed. So if you want to support the streamer have the stream open in a muted tab on low quality.
